There is no reason that a 200 level should have this many requirements. An 8-10 page academic term paper, a 22 minute presentation, and in the midst of all your stuff for finals he keeps assigning things that make up a good chunk of your grade out of the blue. This class feels like I keep going in circles. Take with Stana, if you can.

The professor is quite inconsistent with grading. I was very fortunate to have a good grade in this class but I saw others who typically do better work than I receive Cs. He also reads straight off the slides for the most part but the slides are not detailed enough to get the points across so he just says "you understand" 50x a day.

Do the work and it's an easy A. It is also not a lot of work but he goes over what people lose points on when in class so while he does not take attendance it's important to attend.

Jin Xu was an awesome professor. He definitely loves his job and is super understanding. As long as you show up and put forth honest effort, you'll do fine in his class. Short speeches are easy, and the longer speeches take some effort but are manageable.

You will get an A if you show up semi consistently, and do your speeches. There are short speeches about every week and a half (I would typically start it class and just present last) there are also larger speeches that need about 30 minutes to figure out. Accent is something to get used to, grading is his opinion, but just do extra credit!

In this class be prepared to not have your questions answered and instead be told to refer to D2L. Midterm and Final are completely online. However, his class requires the most speeches and guidelines are not always clear. Class isn't awful but if you have the opportunity to take it with someone else.

I would not recommend him. He is difficult to understand and his grading method is weird. Does not even marks attendance but gives you a grade mentioning about your attendance lol His instructions have been unclear throughout the semester and always hated going to his class. You should take other professors,I didn't have other options unfortunately

He is one of the sweetest people I've ever met, and he's a very easy grader. There are a lot of speeches you have to do, both short and major, but they get easier as you do them. You have a group speech throughout the semester, and I'd say he gives you enough time to prepare for each speech. He's also very interested in your speeches, he's so sweet

His grading method is so weird, he deducts points from assignments without giving any feedback, so I was left confused on my grades. Doesn't reply to emails which is frustrating. Midterm and Final were online but the material covered on them weren't even taught in the class... You do a lot of speeches (short/major) but they are easy.

If you show up and do the speeches, you will easily pass the class. The one thing I don't enjoy about this professor was the way he did his exams. I had an A on every assignment but failed both exams because he hardly discussed ANY of the content in class. I would take a different professor if you have the choice.

Do not take his class guys. I am saving you your precious time. You will be clueless. You wouldn't really know what does he want from you throughout the semester. He also has an accent which makes him sound like a robot. I wish I would have seen the reviews before.

I regret to say that my experience with this professor was less than satisfactory. While the subject matter was interesting, the professor's teaching style and approach to student engagement were problematic. Throughout the semester, the professor provided little clarity regarding course objectives and assignments. There were frequent changes.

i've always hated taking a speech class in high school, but this class made me love public speaking, jin xu really was passionate about what he was teaching, and that made the class fun and enjoyable. 10/10 recommend him as a professor!!

Dr. Xu was absolutely the worst in class I could never understand him because he jumped from topic to topic and would say "is that right?" or "you get the idea" about a million times in a 50 min class period. Like actually made me want to jump off a bridge. I dreaded going to class. BUT if you can get through that, the class itself is pretty easy.

The professor mainly lectures without much interaction. There's little to no engagement, and the class feels monotonous. There is also a lack of varied teaching methods, which makes it hard for different types of learners to succeed. His accent is also something difficult to understand.

Pretty easy class if you put in some work. Felt very disorganized though, half the time I didn't know what he was expecting us to turn in. He has an accent, but it's not terrible. If you can, take it with a different professor since the workload is way less.

No point emailing this professor, his D2L is the most disorganized mess I have ever seen. You won't ever be able to understand how he is grading you as it's a mess as well. Exams are from textbook which is supposed to be "NOT MANDATORY" Get ready to have your brain filled with two lines entire class "YOU GET THE IDEA RIGHT?" "ISN'T THAT RIGHT?".

This was by far one of the most disappointing classes I've taken in college. The professor seemed completely unprepared for most lectures and often just read off slides with no real engagement or explanation. For a course that's supposed to teach communication and confidence, the teaching style was ironically the opposite—dry, disorganized.
