Very easy to talk to, always willing to help, just ask.
Accent is very strong, makes listening to lectures difficult. Lectures too long.
nice, but hard to follow, tests hard
read the book before she lectures and you will understand more
Accent makes it hard to understand, tests are WAY hard!!! Not a good Prof.
once you get through the accent, she's easy to understand, hard tests though
hard to understand--hard tests-boring class.
great prof! Go to class&you'll do well on exams, accent is mild, just listen!
Very friendly, very willing to help - accent a little strong, but not bad...
WHAT THE HELL DID SHE SAY???? Need I say more
Tests were ridiculous...............hard to understand, especially at 8:30 AM..
I have never once not understood her, she is a wonderful prof!
Tests were much harder than what she lectured on. Tough grader
If I could understand her, I'd be okay.
accent is NOT that bad. bad students get bad grades. good prof and a cutie too

long lectures, bad english, unpredictable tests
Hard and frustrating. My lowest grade at GVSU with my 3.8 **** GPA!!
realize this is a 300 lev. college psy class not highschool. B- here w/o trying
very hard final exam, extremely picky, she is hard to understand, hard work!
ok, you decifer broken English at 8am. Exams are absurd. AVOID!
Needed an interpreter to understand her. Tests are very picky. Know everything
Lectures are generally not good preparation for test, tests are confusing
accent is very difficult to understand and she is very picky on tests
A little hard to follow at 8 in the morning, but very nice and helpful.
Nice person, but too many notes, tests were ridiculous, know even small details!
Exellent challenging corse, those who say otherwise are just lazyass slackers!!!
tests are hard, she's hard to understand but a nice lady
bad accent, moves fast, hard tests, go to class and be prepaired!
Must go to class because of all the notes, study hard for tests!
Very nice, good prof. class is hard, though, which makes the tests hard
Very difficult and picky tests, nice lady if you need to talk to her
She's very sweet, but the class is quite a challenge.
If she didn't giggle after everything she said, maybe I would taken it seriously
hard tests, do NOT skip class, accent is tough until you get used to it
her tests are hard and make no sense
Hard to understand until u get used to her. Tests are HARD off the wall. AVOID!
Tough class, but I have never enjoyed a professor more!
SAVE YOUR GPA!! Don't take. Hard test and she's hard to understand!
hard tests
Hard Prof. Don't recommend. Nice person though.
adorable! challenging in a good way, funny english, pay attention and study!
tests are common sense, study notes and read the book, the final sucked
Nice prof. Just read the book, study notes, and you'll do fine. Hard final.
nice prof, tough class. very comprehensive.
BEST PROF I'VE EVER HAD! accent= not thatbad. organized, tests not bad. STUDY!
The accent really isn't that bad. Great teacher; puts notes on blackboard!!
Funny!!
Get outta this class. She is very nice, but her tests are killer!
unflexible, you could hardly understand her tests with such broken english.
Hard to understand at times, just participate&work hard and she will help u.
The best. Always willing to help. Very funny, but challenging.
Very nice and helpful! Sweet lady. Study Hard and you will do well.
BEST PROF I've ever hard. she's very nice and willing to help. she has an accent, but it's not hard to understand her (this is America, LOTS OF PEOPLE have accents). her tests are nowhere near as hard as people say....just go to class and study.

Tough and boring class, tests are difficult
nice woman. tends to repeat alot, which I find helpful.

very nice lady, very helpful and clear. tests are difficult.
Class is somewhat boring, but tests are pretty easy. No trouble understanding her at all
Very sweet lady! It is a class where you do have to attend and do work, but it's not difficult. Do what you are supposed to and get an A. She is easy to understand.

Very nice prof however tests are extremely difficult. Accent can be challenging. The final was written to ensure students fail. Good luck with this one.
hard to understand...unless you are chinese!! If you have a choice, take a prof who speaks ENGLISH!! you will get more out of the class. Tests are hard and if you go to her with questions, you can't understand her b/c of her STRONG accent!!! GOOD LUCK!!
Great teacher. willing to help. speaks good english constantly repeats herself so she is sure she is understood. If someone dosent do well its because they are lazy.
I liked her, but majority of class did not. She is rather hard to understand, so you have to pay very close attention. But she really does try, she just cant speak well & the class is just a hard class regardless of who teaches it!

I CAN NOT UNDERSTAND HER! Once your lost, the whole class is a waste. Tests are horrible and have nothing to do with class discussions. You will fail. RUN!
Difficult to understand! Very hard class! Offers no help. Tests are impossible
No problem understanding her at all! She does have problems spelling, but it's not a big deal. Her exams are extremely hard. The only reason i don't recommend her class is because if you don't thoroughly grasp the material you won't do well on exams.
She is a very nice woman, always willing to help. Can be difficult to understand her english at times, but she always clarifies any questions and writes words she has a hard time pronouncing on the board. Her tests are hard, but not much homework.
Very nice prof. she knows her stuff! Her tests are very very difficult because they are abstract. You MUST attend lectures to pass this class!
Hard teacher get out why you can. If you can't understand broken up english then I highly recommend you DONT TAKE HER.I mean shes a nice prof n all, but shes just extremley hard to understand and her tests are hard as hell got to read the ?s over n ov
She's hard to understand at first. She's very to the point and it's not hard to figure out what she wants. The exams aren't bad as long as you fill out the review sheets.
She is a very good professor who knows her stuff. She is more than willing to repeat things people don't understand. If someone doesn't pass her class they are just lazy.
Provides note and study guides. Also, arranges class study sessions for tests. Good prof.
really nice, great prof.I really liked her.Easy to understand, cute way of teaching, really cares. She lets you drop one test score! She really knows her stuff and overall no complaints at all.
All her outlines for notes are online and she does her lectures right from that. She tells stories related to the topics we are discussing so it is easy to remember the material. If you go to class and pay attention, you will do good on the exams. Take her, you will learn a lot.
wasn't the best prof. don't expect to e-mail her drafts of your paper cuz she won't open them. she also is not very responsive to e-mails during the weekend, since she doesn't have a computer. tests are ok, and she is pretty nice
Professor Chen is a very very nice lady. The concepts are hard to understand and interpret on her difficult exams, but not impossible. Study for this class and not the night before an exam. Talk to her after class, she is very nice and willing to help you if you need it.
Very hard professor. Makes you fell stupid at times. She expects you too know things right after she says it once. She does know her stuff but her exams can be really hard. You must be good at taking multiple choice exams if you want to pass this class.
I've had her for a couple of classes. The outlines are very helpful but u will need to attend class to get all the notes. The project is a real drag if u don't have alot of extra time. Good use of Blackboard, grades tests quickly. Some extra credit. I am not a very good student but i passed.
I thought that Dr. Chen was a great prof. Has good sense of humor. If you go to class and take good notes, then the class is very easy. You have a paper to write but you get the whole semester to do it. Study very well for exams and there is really no reason not to get an A.
unclear! run!
If you go to class, pay attention and take notes, and do the study guide, you'll ace her class. The paper wasn't too bad, and her tests really weren't that difficult. Professor Chen is patient and helpful and has a good sense of humor. Interesting class, but overlaps quite a bit with PSY 301.
I personally think psychology is a bunch of hypothetical B.S. so needless to say I though the class sucked, but Chen was a pretty decent teacher. I guess if you like psy it might be a fun class.
She is very helpful, but make sure to go to class and listen to her lectures. Take notes, they are basically what the exams are on. If you skip a lot, which is easy to do, you will miss all the important stuff for exams.
Take Chen. Yes, you'll have to go to class, but isn't that the point of being here? She's funny, understanding, and knows what she's talking about.
Terrible Terrible Terrible. I had her for a previous class and I really liked her teaching style. She screwed me over in 364 with my grade. Wasn't real clear with what she wanted on the exams. Gave you so much info to study that you never knew what to spend more time on.
she provides an outline for you to fill out while she's lecturing, and a study guide for the tests. this is definitely a class you have to go to all the time. the tests are a little on the hard side, but as long as you fill out the study guide and go to class, you should do fine.

WORST PROF EVER! Go out of your way NOT to get her. Doesn't speak clear English and doesn't speak in complete sentences. HARD HARD grader and HARD exams. Teaching style sucks. Makes you read ridiculous articles you can't even understand. Gives you no outline for exams. I practically had to teach myself everything. DO NOT TAKE HER! MISTAKE!!
Isn't too hard, but you need to go to class and take good notes. No text book required, although there are other small readings. Get to drop lowest grade. Exams kind of hard but if you study, you should be fine. Very nice, especially outside of class. Wants to see students succeed. It's a 300 level class, it's not going to be a total breeze.
Worst prof ever. Her notes are very unclear and doesn't explain things well at all. No book is required, yet dont let that fool you. A book would have been so helpful! This class is boring. Don't take her!!!

Friendly, smart, and funny prof. Class could be very boring though. We didn't use a book, but we had readings. The readings sucked because they were experiments, and those are always lame to read. It was also disappointing she never talked about Kohlberg. Good prof, but class definitely could have been more interesting.
Very very nice, cute, and funny lady. She has a Chinese accent, but it didn't turn out to be a problem. She uses real journal articles instead of a textbook, so that's nice. LOTS of material, but as long as you take notes and study and understand the stuff, you'll do fine on tests. She gives assignments and those end up being a lot of points to
Did not require a textbook which was nice, although we did have a lot of articles to read and assignments to do off of those, which she grades fairly easy, you have to go to class to understand the material, and she tells you exactly what you need to know for the exams, good prof, just boring sometimes, I suggest taking it with her though!
Very nice lady! She's really cute. Her lectures are very clear. She has outlines that you can use to follow her lecture and take notes. Class was difficult, but it's a 300 level class, so expect that. But as a professor, she was really good. Tests are hard.
Dr. Chen is an excellent prof! She is sweet, cute, and funny. She makes the class interesting and I didn't find the lectures boring. Make sure you go to lecture because she takes exam questions straight from her lectures. There is no book for the class but there are a lot of articles to read were very boring. Overall, a wonderful class and prof!
Go to every class because you usually always have something due, or she will have an in class assignment. Tests are kind of confusing so study hard. She doesn't budge on any of her test questions, it helps if you go see her in her office hours. No text book required but has a lot of additional readings.
Terrible.
First off, she really knows her stuff. But being the first year she taught this class it was a little difficult. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you have assignments due pretty much every class period. She's really helpful. Her tests can be kind of hard, but her study guide is the powerpoints for the class, so study those.
This professor is hard. She only uses a outline and then stands and lectures and you have to be able to understand and take notes. She is hard to understand which makes this even harder. Exams are all comprehensive..no deffinitions. You also have to do a research paper which she does not have clear directions for but she picks apart.
She knows what she's talking about. Exams are a bit difficult but she tells you everything you need to know in lecture. The project was a bit cumbersome though. I would recommend her for THIS course.
she was a really good professor, she knew what she was talking about and often used her son's life to give us great examples. She definitely knows what she's talking about. She doesn't answer emails promptly though. Tests are easy if you study the outline, just pay attention in class. It's a great class and you learn a lot!
She definitely knows her stuff, although she can have a hard time getting the message across. Go to class! She puts things on the tests that aren't covered in the book. Students are required to observe a daycare and write a paper on it, which is a great first-hand learning experience.
She honestly is just terrible. First off, you can hardly understand what she's saying and then she will give you the definition of a word and then say that is classical conditioning (for example). So, you completely miss the definition and her lectures are so boring. Avoid her she is terrible and her tests are so ambiguous
I really like Professor Chen... She's so nice and the class really isn't that hard as long as you show up, pay attention, and study for the tests.
This prof was VERY hard especially with the project that she assigns. She expected us all to drop our other jobs and school work in order to go observe the children for 4 hours and then write a 6 page paper. It was hard to pay attention in her class because she would write one word on the board and then just talk. Take someone else if you can!!!!!!
I hated this class. She doesn't use a book and you can't understand her so you are lost at all times. The hw is easy but the exams are terrible. TAKE ANOTHER PROF!!!
Extremely difficult to understand. I literally wrote down every word I assumed she said during class and the tests questions were very specific. She is extremely unhelpful when you go to her for help. She pretty much tells you that you're not trying hard enough and gets angry at you. AVOID this professor at all costs.
She was not that hard to understand, as others claimed. The tests were comprehensive to all of the material covered. The tests were not cumulative. There was no required textbook, so you aren't out $150 for a theme class. Overall, she was fun and had a lot of energy. She made the class interesting.
Avoid taking her class, impossible to know what she is going to have on the test. She will write one word on the board and then talk about a bunch of random stuff for five minutes. I was glad to get anything above a D on tests
Honestly she isnt that hard to understand compared to others I have had. But, who are the people on here saying she is a good teacher? She is awful, she writes one word on the board and the tests were not aligned for what she teached, especially the final. WOW that was a mindblower....where did the questions come from? We never studied it.
I really loved this prof. I didn't have any problems understanding her! She assigns difficult articles to read, so be prepared to increase your reading level! Everything on her tests were discussed in lecture- so go and take notes!! Especially on her examples!
As an education major, this was a very difficult class. Very difficult to understand in lecture and tests were extremely difficult. After studying for hours, was lucky to get a passing grade on an exam. Final project was tough, yet a great learning experience. I would recommend taking a different professor for this class.
Professor Chen was the least helpful professor I've ever had. I was a psych major, but after this class, it was completely ruined for me. If there are any other professors teaching Child Development, go with them; you won't regret it!
I had taken both Psy301 and Perspectives on Aging with Professory Chen and both were very enjoyable & understandable if you attended each class and paid attention. If you like to skip class or put in little effort this is not a good professor for you. If you are a good student you will have no problem. I am an A student and received an A in both.
Worst prof ever. STAY AWAY FROM HER!! She says the phrase "you know" OVER AND OVER again and you can't concentrate on anything else but that. She isn't clear with homework and her articles are long and hard and I didn't know what to even study for a test. HORRIBLE. save your self the agony and don't take this class with her.
Jing is a good teacher. The material she assigns to read is hard. However, if you take notes and are an active participant in class you will understand it. It is good to have a teacher who is of different ethnic race too. It allows us to grow into more of a diverse individual. Take her and broaden your mind. Be prepared for articles!
This prof is alright, she only uses power points so class attendance is very important. Although I did very well on her first two exams, her final was really hard. She was not helpful at all when I would ask her questions. I emailed her numerous times and she never responded.
Professor Chen was a decently good instructor, very passionate about what she teaches. I had her for Perspectives on Aging. The articles she assigned were really difficult reads (and I read a lot.) Some of the material was presented in a confusing way and the final was unnecessarily difficult compared to the other tests so study hard for that.
I LOVED Professor Chen! She is so passionate about her teaching and uses real life examples. Her tests are not hard if you study. I always just read through them once the morning of the exam and did great! She doesn't use a textbook, just article (much better!!) I signed up for every other class she teaches! Highly recommended!
She is very sweet. There is no textbook but a lot of material to copy and do for class each week. You need to keep up on it to get a good grade. Sometimes it can be hard to know how to study for her exams and she doesn't go over anything be them. If you miss class you could miss a lot of information that you have to write down.
This was a prof who actually was passionate about what she taught, and cared about her students. The topic wasn't the most interesting, but she brought so many examples into lecture it was ok. This class is a breeze if you do the h.w for the articles she assigns, go to class and listen. Read through notes once before the exams, you will do fine.
I took her class for one of my Theme classes. It wasn't hard but I didn't try my best. I think you can easily get an A in this class by reading the textbook and taking good notes. She likes to use her son as an example. She moves slowly through each chapter so we didn't cover everything. She is very nice and helpful.
She is a very nice lady but impossible to understand. Reading the book will not get you far she tests on what she says and not on the reading. If you want a good grade do not take her class! I am an A student but she is not an A teacher.
Professor Chen is smart and does a decent job overall with maintaining students attention. At times it is difficult understanding with the way she explains things. Its not that she doesn't speak clear English, its the way she articulates her ideas..they seem disorganized. Speak up if you don't understand! Decent prof.
Although some of the directions for the class are not always clear, she makes up for it by being interesting and engaging in the classroom and very approachable.
Quizzes very frequently. Tests were a little tricky. Her English is good, but sometimes there would be a confusing mistake here or there. However she is a VERY nice person and will not be offended if you don't understand. I would say take her, but be ready to do a decent amount of studying.
She's a great professor. Super funny and willing to help. Group assignment was a lot of work, but feasible. Midterm and final were challenging but most of it comes straight from lecture, so take word-for-word notes when she mentions something (especially if she does multiple times... duh!). I would take her for more courses if I could. No book.
I thought professor Chen was a great teacher! She was very nice and the stories she would tell us in class were hilarious. She could be a little confusing at times but her accent didn't get in the way of understanding the material. I'd take more psych classes with her if I got the chance!
I really enjoyed Chen's class she has an awesome personality and is hilarious! Tests were very tough and definitely required a lot of studying. Frequent quizzes that were tough but doable if your studied. Textbook was a must. Would take again!
Quizzes weekly, tests are extremely difficult and near to impossible to do well on, no matter how much you study. This class was for my major and she made me want to change my major. Very confusing and hard to understand. Goes off on tangents about random things and doesn't clearly say what she expects. Would not recommend at all.
All lecture-based. No textbook. Assigns articles for homework. if you miss class you will miss a big chunk of information for exams. Choose project groups wisely. Overall really informative class and easy to get a good grade if you do the work.
Class was tough, but it was do-able. Tests were hard, so studying is a must. Use the textbook because weekly quizzes come from readings she gives for each chapter. Can get off topic, but relates is usually. Very open to helping and she will sit down and really help you with each topic you need help with.
Prof. Chen is a super sweet lady who really does want you to succeed. At times she is slightly unclear, but english is not her first language. But don't let an accent scare you because she knows what she is talking about. Tests are fairly hard, but there are lots of chances to earn other points in the class.
Easy class if you pay attention and take notes on his lecture. I have an A an I never bought a book.
Tests are very difficult, a lot of specificity in understanding is required. Lecture-specific topics are very important to tests, and if you are not taking VERY GOOD notes during lecture, it is very hard to get above a B on an exam. She is funny and very sweet however, and is there as a resource, especially for the group project.
She is a nice lady who cares about her students and field of study, but she is incredibly boring. It's an easy A, but the lectures are slow. She doesn't get to the point quickly. There is a bunch of busy work in the class. She can be unclear in lecture, but her paper guidelines are clear.
She was always full of energy and made the material more interesting. The lectures can get very boring and you must attend lectures. The tests are mostly situational and pick the most correct answer type questions. Lots of outside class reading and homework before lecture, but it really helps.
Her first language is not English, so it can be hard to understand her at time. The exams that she does can be kind of hard to understand, the way they are worded.
Professor Chen really cares about her students. If you attend class and take detailed notes you'll do fine. She asks questions based on the understanding of concepts, not memorization. Would definitely take her again!
Prof. Chen is really sweet and understanding but I ended up taking a huge L in her class. She does not lecture very well as she is hard to understand at times and talks the entire time. Tests are worded weirdly, long, and too specific. I learned more from reading the book than from her. The quizzes and group paper saved me. I wouldn't recommend her
Professor Chen is very knowledgeable about her topics however she gives very broad descriptions of the information so you really have to read the book in depth outside of class and it's a lot of reading. There aren't many quizzes but the quiz info comes straight from the book and a lot of times the quiz isn't what the book reading questions were on
I don't know why Professor Chen has bad reviews. I loved her. She was always willing to answer questions and explain topics further. She does have an accent but it was never a problem when it came to her lectures. You need the book for this class.
She was a good professor and the class was pretty interesting. She is a big stickler to her syllabus though, no exceptions even if you are sick.
Jing Chen is a true gem. She is the most caring and personable prof I've had in my years at GV. There is no textbook so attendance is required to get material. She assigns reading hw almost every class, but she gives full credit every time. She gives little assignments in class that she also gives full credit on for just attending. Harder exams.
Professor Chen is very nice. If you pay attention during lectures then you will do well. There are quizzes based off reading questions that she makes you do from the textbook. These are easy points. Exams are multiple choice but they are very in depth, however if you pay attention in lecture you will get a decent grade. There is 1 paper.
Dr. Chen is the cutest, sweetest thing!! She really wants students to do well and understand concepts. She posts an outline of her notes, the rest you really have to be in class and paying attention for- write every little thing down. Her exams are based off of the lecture and textbook parts relevant to it. One paper and some quizzes. Take her!
Dr. Chen is a horrid professor, but a great person. Her exams are impossible. I study over a week in advance read and re read the notes and textbook and haven't gotten above a 70 on her exams! Her class is going to ruin the GPA I've worked so hard on, and others who have different profs brag ab how easy their class is. TAKE ANY OTHER PROF
Professor Chen is passionate, sweet, and funny! She wants her students to succeed. 4 tests, one paper, and quizzes on most chapters. If you pay attention, take notes, and come to class you'll do well on tests. They aren't easy but aren't particularly hard. I recommend taking her if you can!
She is a nice lady, However, her class was one of the worst classes psychology classes I have taken at Grand Valley. Her outlines are organized but how she explains them is not. She does not make sense and it is all random. All does is go over studies so I suggest you just read those studies on your own because she will not explain them very well.
She is such a great person and has fun lectures. She outlines the class very clearly and makes sure we know what to do. There is one paper, 3 exams, and homework for grades. you do have to go to lectures and read because her exams are hard. The final is NOT cumulative so that is nice.
Her lectures seemed frantic and not very well organized. It was hard to follow her because of this. She claimed the study guides/lectures outlines would help prepare students for the exam but they didn't. She should assign homework that would provide a better idea on the types of questions she asks on exams bc the wording was difficult.
It's been almost 2 weeks and I'm ready to drop tf out of this class. Way too much homework and reading already, it sucks. I would rather drop out of college with no degree than have her as my professor.
Dr. Chen is the cutest human and can be funny, but her accent can be difficult to understand. At the beginning of the semester she gives quizzes so do well because they add up. Her exams are very difficult and worded weirdly, she gives one group project and doesn't explain it clearly making it very confusing to work with.
I am unsure as to why there are so many poor reviews about Professor Chen. She truly is a wonderful professor who is more than willing to help outside of class. Her lectures are funny and interesting. If you read your textbook and put in the work this class is easy to succeed in!
She is a very very sweet lady and will help to clear anything up for you. She also is always helpful outside of class. The lectures are somewhat boring though. She does try and make things interesting sometimes. If you miss class and don't know someone in the class you won't know anything for the exam. Notes are fill-in and she does not post PP.
I don't know why Professor Chen has such a low rating. She is willing to help with anything needed and really shows that she cares if you are willing to go to her office hours! You definitely have to pay attention, read the book, and attend class if you want to pass. She tries to crack jokes during her lectures. There is 3 exams and a group paper
Professor Chen is so sweet, she kept us engaged & is just such a great person overall. However, her tests are essentially impossible. That's why I didn't do well, she taught the material really well, but her tests are very confusing and worded very weirdly. I did well on everything else though, she's great at verbally explaining things.
Professor Chen is a great professor. She explains the concepts exactly how they show up on the exams and makes sure you know the information so there are no surprises. If you show up to class every day and pay attention the exams are not hard at all. She gives homework questions and quizzes here and there that help cushion your grade as well.
Nice lady. Knows psychology very well, that being said I think she over complicated everything. Including her lectures. No computers so cant take notes on laptop and she moves very fast. Requires u to print a lot of paper.
Such a sweet person, makes lectures really fun, & is super understanding. Her tests are absolutely impossible though. If you aren't a good test taker do not take her. I took detailed notes & studied for hours on end for tests & still never got above a B, but did well in every other assignment in that class.
Smart and nice lady. But, takes very long to grade anything. Did not know what my true grade in the class was even up until the final exam. Takes long to respond to emails. Cant use computer in class. Tests are very hard. If it wasnt for other class assignments, I probably would have failed her class solely because of her.
Very sweet and interested in psychology. The quizzes / exams were extremely difficult and a lot of the questions were long and time-consuming to think about and answer (even if you write good notes and attend lecture). She gave a good amount of homework assignments though which helped get points.
Professor Chen is honestly adorable and very sweet. however, she is very difficult to follow and is kind of all over the place in terms of lectures. it is extremely difficult to follow along and get all of the info. I recommend using her outlines they do help. Overall, wasn't a bad class and the hw was fine
This class was a lot harder than it had to be. Reading the book is super important! During her lectures, she didnt follow the book which made it super confusing. Her tests are insanely hard! Would not recommend if you arent a psychology major.
Professor Chen is a really sweet lady, but she LOVES to talk. She will ramble on about a topic for so long and it's not enjoyable at all. She always went over the time. The homework is easy and the tests are application questions, so you have to study but you can use your notes. She engages a lot with students and wants to make sure you understand.
Honestly I don't know why Dr. Chen has bad ratings. I absolutely loved her. The key is to pay attention in lectures and take good notes on them. If you do, seriously do not worry about her quizzes being too hard - you will be fine. She is super SWEET, understanding, and willing to explain things more if asked.
Prof Chen is amazing, she is understanding that students have a lot to deal with (hw extensions!). No book for the class, all the info comes straight from lectures, take good notes (she provides an outline) Online class so we used notes on exam (not sure about in person). Assignments took a long time but were graded easy. Group paper was not hard!
She's a very sweet lady, but isn't a great communicator unless you clearly ask exactly what you want to know. A lot of assignments to boost the grade and she drops one at the end of the semester. A group paper and a final to end the semester.
The low rating is not because of her, it's because of the workload. I took this class as a summer class. The syllabus says you'll spend 10 hours a week on this class, which is inaccurate. I have never spent so much time on a 3-credit class in my life. She assigns AT LEAST 10 hours of reading/lectures (without work) outside of the 3 hour sync class
Loved this class! Professor Chen is the cutest, sweetest lady. Super lecture-heavy class so attendance is important unless you can get notes from someone. 3 exams, quizzes every 2ish weeks, and 1 online reading assignment each week. Only one big paper to write. Overall super easy and manageable if you attend class and stay on top of your work.
She is super sweet and created the class so she really cares about her students and the topic.
Professor Chen was probably the most boring prof I've ever taken a class with. All she does is lecture the whole time and her lectures are not interesting and she rambles and rambles. Usually 2 homework assignments every week that take forever from the book, and a quiz every week. Would not recommend her or her class.
such a sweet prof and i thought the material was relatively easy. there were a lot of assignments but (for me at least) they really didn't take that long. major problem i had was that lectures or slides were not posted anywhere so if you had to miss class you were screwed unless you had someone reliable to send you the notes.
Go to class, do your HW, and study for the tests and youll be fine. She is always willing to sit down and help you if you need it. She is incredibly sweet and cares so much about her students. The material might be difficult but she tries to get you to understand it the best she can. Would take her again.
Professor Chen is a sweet lady and tries her best for her students to understand her lectures. There was a ton of homework in this class and her exams were worded differently, so it was hard to understand. There's no textbook, so she relies on numerous articles you have to read. Also you miss a lot of the material if you miss one day.
Chen expects you to put a lot into this class heavy reading/HW before almost every class, tons of quizzes, a few tests and a big group project. If you miss one class you'll feel super lost and tests/quizzes are based almost entirely on lecture. She's a superrrrr sweet lady who really cares about developmental psych but she expects you too as well.
Super nice professor and loves what she's teaching about so lectures weren't too bad. Exams were based mainly on lectures so I didn't read the textbook much (mainly skimmed). She's a pretty fair grader and loves to help students if you need extra feedback or help with assignments. Sometimes hard to understand but she's happy to repeat things.
Class was good but not amazing. I understood what's expected of me, learned lots from the lectures, and she'll gladly go into detail or repeat things if you're confused. Class wasn't unnecessarily difficult and felt it was the perfect level of difficulty. Not too hard but not too easy. She's a very fair grader and will explain your grade if needed.
Very sweet lady in general, the class is just not good. Lectures every single class, and she does not post the slides on blackboard. She posts note guides but they don't line up with the slide exactly. If you miss any lectures you will be behind so much. There is one big paper but the topic relates nothing to what has been learned in class.
Prof Chen was not a great prof, very test heavy and study material from the textbook like she said for the exams and did very poorly on exams. HORRIBLE at answering emails, if you email her don't expect a reply. Reading questions answer is never good enough even if you took it straight from the textbook. She is nice and caring but very tough grader
Loved the class. Loved the prof. Take her if you can.
Professor was non conventional. Knew a lot but had a tough time relating that to questions she would propose on tests. Tests were mischievous as in you were graded by a few quizzes and exams weren't always true to what was taught in class. Communication with professor was not so personable, came off as very bland.
This professor was hard. However, I learned so much from her. I feel as though some classes don't push you enough to learn. With her, there was a lot of homework and tests were hard. I did very well however, since I studied. I rewrote my notes to study. If you want to get something out of this class, I 100% recommend her.
For a class I don't really need for my major, I do regret taking it, since it is very hard. However, I learned so much, and feel like I got the most out of it. Left this class with better work ethic, and feeling good about how I performed. Tests are very hard, but homework does not take long and is a lot of your grade.
Professor Chen runs a challenging but rewarding class. Lectures are engaging, and the workload is substantial. Staying on top of readings and notes is key. unstuck AI was a helpful supplement for test prep.
This class was so enjoyable. Professor Chen always brought a smile to class and never failed to make me have one on my way out of the door. She was caring, understanding, and helpful. Her office hours were always open if you needed help, too. No complaints except sometimes it was difficult to understand her critiques of projects and assignments.
She thinks the world revolves around her and that her elective is the most important class you will ever take. she is really annoying and the topics in class do not flow together. she expects you to read and memorize the book because she doesn't teach a single thing in class that is on her exams. id recommend not taking her
Prof Chen is sweet but this class wasn't for me, even as a psych minor. We read SO MUCH RESEARCH and it can be hard to understand. Her ppts aren't detailed so it can be hard to review content for exams. The exams are pretty difficult, and she doesn't really provide a cohesive study guide for them. Only take this if you're interested in aging.
Professor Chen was a sweet professor. The layout and course content were easy to follow. Although attendance isn't mandatory, I'd recommend showing up to class. Her exams were mostly topics she covered in class and not content straight from the textbook.
I enjoyed Chen's class. She was pretty funny, and explained content well. She gives extra credit opportunities and always curved the exams. The exams were average difficulty. She tells you exactly what the test will cover with the number of questions on each topic which I found helpful for studying.
Told me I didn't have what it took for my career.
Overall decent professor, tests are long, and her lectures are as well only for most of the test content to be from the textbook, which is very large. If you do all the work, you'll do well, but there is a lot of work to be done. She's pretty jolly, but not amazing at explaining/answering questions. Heavier accent and sometimes difficult to follow.
Lectures were straight from a powerpoint. Hard to stay engaged. Powerpoints are not filled in, so if you miss lecture and don't know anyone in the class you're screwed. Exams were difficult and covered a TON of material. She is caring and sweet, lots of participation points though. Gives exam breakdown, difficult to study the right material.
Professor Chen is as cute as a button and very caring. I showed up at the wrong time for the final, and she told me not to panic and let me take it in her office. If you show up to every class, she will notice and give grace.
