Hard class, try not to miss any days. She tries her best but her English isnt the best, making the class a little dull. She covers a lot and expects you to know a lot. Book not absolutely necessary, study all homework and textbook website for exams. Weekly hw, 2 projects.
She gives easy-to-understand and sequential lectures that are coming from powerpoint, and book. Gives helpful notes of pursuing the grade you need to be successful. Most of the grades is coming from 1 midterm and final which is 84%. The the rest is coming from all HW and projects. She doesn't curve grades, but will give you grade you deserve
84% comes from 1 MT and 1 final. 10% comes from 2 Projects which are doable, and the rest comes from Connect HW and Write-in HW. The test will come from lecture notes, Connect HW, CPA and CMA questions, and mostly in Write-in HW( 2 to 3 problems at the most). Great lectures that are sequential, but study hard. Tough class!
Lectures from powerpoints only. Use of the traditional midterm/final makes it a harder subject than it already is. You must remember 4-5 chapters for the midterm. IFRS projects are not necessary since US is still under GAAP. Does not curve and not very helpful. Take at your own risk.
Although she gives clear and thorough lectures. She gives you a lot of work to understand and practice on what's going on with the topics. Don't get left behind every week, and study as much as you can to pass her MT and finals. Most of the credit is coming from tests are 400 and 420 points each (60%), then 40% from HWs, project & participation.
I had trouble with her accent. She made her lectures more difficult than it were. If you take her class, be carefule with midterm and final test since they were too long.I have ever had any class that professor gave a such long test.I recomand that you should avoid her since you will take risk to get low grade although you really study hard.
Love Dr. Yang! She explains things well and will work with you until you get it. This class has less material than 3212 and therefore her attitude is a little more laid back. Highly recommended.
Accent is difficult to understand. But, unfortunately, this is not the biggest problem. Exams are harder than homework/class material and there is a lot of new material as government/non-profit accounting is different. Final is comprehensive (that's 16 Chapters worth of material!!). Poor extra credit opportunities.
This class is difficult and is designed that way. She gives clear lectures using powerpoint and the blackboard. her MT and final were taken from the hw questions. she is the BEST acct prof i ever had, would gladly take any class she teaches. if you want to learn and not coast, take her and only her. i wish i had her for ACCT 3213.
The professor isn't hard, but the material is hard. If you are an accounting major you should not expect anything easy without trying and studying. Suggestions is always attended class and take notes off the, practice the cma/cpa questions she gives you, i never used the book, her power slides are useful. Overall she is a good professor
She is definitely my favorite ACCT lecturer! Very detail oriented, helpful, & organized; The bad news is her exams and quizzes are mind bottling and will leave you exhausted. Every kind of test she gives are LONG! Forget concentrating on the time value of money(EASY), concentrate on the value of personal time management during tests (yourself)
This teacher is okay. The problem is that the Midterm and Final are really long, so you have to manage your time wisely... Take notes, be prepared to study ALOT, do your homework (especially written) and pay attention!
I love every class from this teacher. I learned a lot from her. Even though I got a C but It was because I did not spend enough time in studying instead i worked too much and was busy with my real estate career. She is the best teacher if you want to learn most about accounting. Tips: read all the lectures from books and practice books too.
Even though it is an intense and hard class, if you pay attention and do all the homework, you will be fine.
If you love disorganization and confusion coupled with a rigid and unhelpful style, then Yang is for you! If you prefer a teacher who is well-organized, explains things clearly, and doesn't unnecessarily obfuscate the subject, then avoid Yang. She is so lost in her own translation. Difficult tests, no hw review, never has anything up on BB early
If you love confusion and mediocrity, by all means, take this prof! Awful tests, no hw review, poor organization! She has it all! THINKS she's doing the best, that's what makes her so repellant. Pathetic excuse for a teacher.
Prof. Yang is a wonderful teacher inside and outside the classroom. She truly wants to help her students succeed in her classes and she grades very fairly. She likes challenging students. However, I did not like how she often she would say she would do something but actually doesn't always do it. You'll know what I mean. But definitely take her!
AVOID AVOID, I repeat, AVOID! worst professor ever. Confusing lectures and not helpful at all. Dislike questions and gets frustrated by it. Hard to understand her accent & teaching style.
it's tough tough and tough....what can I say? TOUGH!
Jingwen bombards with long, tedious assignments (homework is more in depth than her lecture examples). Lectures are long and confusing (sometimes confuses herself). Class is way too fast. Feels like 2 classes in one. She doesn't review for tests. I would avoid her at all costs.
Her lectures are confused. Long lesson with no break... I passed the class with "C" (
Lots ppl know she is tough teacher in this campus. I ended up "C". Really wish my 3211 professor teach this class. Avoid ! Avoid!
This course is tough regardless of who you take with. She goes step by step in all chapter. Only accounting professor that actually uses the board and breaks down everything step by step. Homework and quiz overload!!! but if you do it all and have some smartness in you should be able to get an A. She will not pass you just because, so work hard!
Professor Yang is very good at engaging her students. She has A LOT of material to cover so don't expect to get out of class on time. The final is 400 points so IF you don't do very well on the midterm, there's a good chance that you will not pass her class. The final is VERY intense, so make sure you have a high B before the final! Ace midterm!!!
Professor Yang is great at explaining things. She will try her best to help you to pass this course. But in the end, you would need to prove that you understand the concepts. It is an intense course, so whether you take it with her or someone else, the concepts doesn't change. Study hard is the main key to pass this course.
Even though you spend a lot of time for this class but it doesn't mean you always can get a good grade. Unless you very good on it.
This course is not as bad if you have the right professor. Unfortunately Professor Yang makes it harder than it has to be. She assigns group and individual projects on top of homework and quizzes... I withdrew from the course right after mid-terms. She can be a bit patronizing at times. I get the feeling she wants her students to get low grades.
I took Yang's class for 3212 and 3213 and man that was a stressful journey. I contemplated dropping her class many times, but made it through the series. Keep in mind that these courses for most people are going to be tough, so it really doesnt matter which professor you pick. Her class is good because it is out of 1000 points, DO not drop!!!!!!!!!
I thought about not taking her class from reading these reviews but her class was not that bad. She can get unorganized during lecture sometimes but you can tell she is trying to be a better prof. This class requires a lot of time so be prepared to study weekly and she provides study guide which is helpful. She also offered extra credit.
I took Dr. Yang for both 3212 and 3213. I really enjoyed her class and absolutely would take her again. She is extremely thorough and organized. Dr. Yang always takes the time to solve problems on the board and gives you a study guide. Yes, Dr. Yang is hard but only because she holds you to high standards. If you put the time in, you can get an A.
Prof. Yang is a no nonsense type of professor. This is a tough class regardless. She expects a lot out of her students and definitely wants to see them succeed.
Got C- on her midterms but ACE her final. Very time consuming and it doesn't really matter who you take it with. Don't expect a curve to bail you out. If you can't pass this class, there's no way you'll pass the CPA exam. In the end, your grade will be determine by your effort and understanding of concepts. Got a B+ Make sure accounting is for you.
Don't take this class if you care about your grades. Her lectures are not helpful at all. The class averages on the midterms were in the 50s and she called our class "less intelligent" because of that. It's sad to say that I learned a lot more from just reading the textbook than I did from her lectures. Worst class I've ever taken at CSUEB. AVOID!
Intermediate Accounting is (no joke!) hard, but Prof Yang is good at explaining the material. She is caring. Exams are based on lectures, hw, extra practices she provides. Expect to work hard for this class, but she is fair and clear on her expectation. Weekly hw, two midterms, final, and one short paper. Highly recommend.
JIngwen Yang is by far 100% the worst teacher I have ever had. She goes way too fast in lecture, makes questions on test completely different than the lectures/hw, and the tests are very short in questions (10-12 questions). When she must curve the entire class 20-30% at the end, you know she is a horrible teacher.
RAC - an assignment to get to know accounting , ALEKS - project (5pt) takes forever if you dont take serious, HW every week due once a week online, Testing in class she separates you and arranges your seats. HW are like 1 pt vs test are like 99% of your grade and NO MAKE UP TEST. as a teacher shes super nice, super understandable. but the class...
She's nice and acts caring but her grading is extremely annoying! HW & projects take so much time to complete but only makes up a very small percentage of your grade. The tests and exams take a huge effect on your grade, though they are extremely hard and doesn't even sound similar to the HW. You have to understand ACCT through and through to pass.
She doesn't care about the students at all. -Too much homework, hours to complete -Her accent is annoying, can't lecture at all -She just reads everything off the slides and writes it down on the board without explaining anything -Very strict on exams, took away my calculator, no notes -Class average was 30-40%
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HER -TOO MUCH HOMEWORK -EXAM IS DIFFCUILT AND NOT ENOUGH TIME -90% CLASS FAILED
Hmwk, ALEKS, an assignment (not big part of grade). 2 midterm, 1 semi-cumulative final (determines whther u pass the class or not, so do well on these). Short time for 25 q's &1 problem solving (long, will need time for this as well). She reads off slides, but goes over things if u don't understand on the board. Practice in class, organized, ec.
I hate that she doesn't just keep to the chapter that we are learning. She feels the need explain the next chapters into details before teaching us about the current chapter that we are working on.
I think I would have done better if i just study on my own than listen to her. She does not give any kind of good feedback. You ask her about going over home works and pre-exam tests and she'll tell you to go back and study everything again! She's the definition of a Tiger Professor! Hate that she teaches my courses every semester.
Her exams were hard and gave little time for it. Got confused easily during class
Okay first off this class is hard to begin with, but she gives really hard exams in a short amount of time but luckily she curves ALOTTT at the end of the semester. Exams are not cumulative. There is lockdown browser use without camera, there is an online book that needs to purchased, and usually always a big project that needs to be done.
She is trying to force students to come on campus during a pandemic. She said some students who were "cheating" , so everyone has to come in. We use the lockdown browser and we have to submit our working paper. Her midterms have multiple choice, some tend to just pick a random answer. ALOT OF WORK. ALOT OF HW; 3 set of HW per CH. PROJECT.
This class operates on a points system. You can do well on the homework and quizzes, but screw up on the midterms and finals, you are very likely not going to pass this class. If you end up failing the first time around however, I'd recommend retaking her again just because you're now mentally prepared for her work regimen and can do a lot better.
Professor Yang is a patient professor. Expect to study for 4+ hours after class. There is A LOT of content to learn in this class. This class requires a lot of concentration and reading. Go to her office hours! She sometimes gives points just for going. Lots of extra credit available. Her accent was a little thick at times but understandable.
Took her for few classes. Very caring professor, but impossibly hard classes. Believe when she tells you her classes are equivalent to 6 units. Respondus quizzes + calc pages submissions almost every week & 2 respondus tests (in-person finals). Talk to her about your circumstances. She CAN be understanding if she knows you actually put effort.
Every week, she assigned a large number of assignments and offered lengthy lectures. The midterm and quiz have little to do with the lecture and homework. The video courses were difficult for me to comprehend. For the most part, I ran out of time on the quizzes and exams. If you can find another professor for this class, skip her.
If you ever wondered what its like to put yourself through self-harm and unnecessary struggle. Look no further. Her tests give you a big middle finger compared to the quizzes and homework and nothing you do can prepare you for anything that is thrown at you. Attempts to reach out for help will be met with a should of studied harder. Run.
Yang is a really nice professor, but exams are based on deeper knowledge of the subject, not based on class lectures. Class lectures are vague and do NOT prepare you for quizzes or exams. She makes her class a priority. Book is also vague on the content. Exams are set up to help you prepare for the Certified Professional Accountant exam.
She's caring for her students, but her class workload is actually insane. Connect & written HW, weekly Respondus quizzes, easy solo project, and 4 exams. Her lectures are also really basic & do NOT prepare you for quizzes/exams well, so you need to study from the textbook/HW a lot. Does offer some EC and curves, but don't rely heavily on those!
Nice person will work with you but merciless. Toughest class I've ever taken. The C I got in this class was hard-earned and if she didn't curve I would have failed. But she says she doesn't curve so I don't know what she actually does.
This is by far the most difficult class I have taken. The workload is completely impossible. I withdrew because in her words "there was no way I would pass" after failing the midterm. I REALLY tried to pass this course. Her lectures are very basic and do not prepare you for the actual questions you will be getting on tests/quizzes. She is ruthless!
Tips for her class. Go to her office hours!!! Meet with her 1 on 1 to go over the lesson even if you understand the lesson. Be prepared to study at least 1hr before class and 5hrs after. The quizzes sounds and look completely different from the hw. You have to have outside knowledge of accounting to fully understand the quizzes and exams.
Listen to the low rating reviews, they are accurate. She's a VERY tough grader. You really need to take time to learn outside of class to supplement your learning. HW, weekly quizzes (drops two lowest quiz), midterm, and final. Failed a few quizzes and midterm? 50% chance you won't pass. Don't risk taking this prof if you like your grades and GPA.
This is the worst class ever. Feels like a 400 level, 5 credit class. If you can take this class with a different prof. or even different school DO IT. So much homework that isn't worth anything. Failing a single midterm is detrimental. Also there are TWO FINALS! Try to take this class with 1-2 other EASY courses so you don't feel overwhelmed.
Highly recommend taking her courses if you dedicate your time to doing homework. Doing additional homework helps take quizzes and exams. Too much workload, but it works with your effort. She broke down rigid materials to my head's level. She prepared you for your CPA exam in the future.
Trust the reviews this prof is bad news Insane workload LOTS of trick questions on exams. NOT 3 credits worth of work easily a 5 credit class. Shes a nice person but a bad teacher. If you value your gpa or have gpa dependent scholarships run away from her fast! If its your only class then you might be able to pull off an A. VERY tough grader.
I thought the reviews were just exagerrating..they were not. For the love of god run from this prof FAST. If you have to take the class at a different school do it, I wish I had..
This is the WORST professor I've ever had. If she's the only prof. available, take the class at another school! There is so many assignments each week & her lectures make no sense. I don't even know where she gets her exam questions from. Several classmates have asked & she gave each of them different answers so, you have no idea what to study.
She will be your hell! She want you to focused solely in her subject. It is better to have a study group and find a trick over her way of teaching. Failed one exam and you are done! Multiple students repeated with her and she'll not take any consideration and kept failing you so better be prepared and study!
She's sweet and goofy during lectures, but no one prepared me for the amount of homework she gave. I spent most of my weeks doing the absurd amount of assigments. Each chapter had: - Two "pre" assignments - One review assignment - One regular assignment - 1-2 In class assignments - One quiz You can kinda get the gist.
The reviews are a little harsh because she's not that bad, she has high expectations for her students & doesn't just hand out passing grades! I took this class while taking four others and still managed to swing a B+ so passing is possible, you just have to apply yourself!! Please don't let the reviews steer you away from a funny & caring professor
Class does consist of a lot of hw and study time for exams, however I did not find it to be as difficult as stated in other reviews. The professor is chill and straight forward. She lectures on the most important points and what will be on the exams.
Don't be ashamed to re-take this class since most do anyway. Her lectures encourage note taking and provide examples to make sure you do well on HW and quizzes, with the latter being identical to her exams. Most professors read off PPTs nowadays which discourages active studying, so I really miss Yang's lecturing style. Would definitely take again.
I think this prof resonates more with her in person class rather than online. I took her online class and it was absolutely too much. We deserve 5 credits for the amount of work she is requiring weekly. If GPA matters to you or your scholarships are dependant on GPA avoid her. respondus with cam on, 4 exams instead of the usual midterms and final.
Honestly, you would be better off skipping her in-person lectures. Use that time to study the chapter on your own because her teaching style is far from the best. The amount of homework you have to do for her class is insane. Save yourself and read the book and the slides because thats honestly the only way you'd learn. Be ready for hours of hw.
Professor Yang is a phenomenal professor. She deeply cares about her students and wants them to succeed but there is only so much she can do with a class that intense. I went into her class knowing the challenge ahead of me so I dedicated the time. If you pay attention during lecture and go over homework again and again, you will be just fine.
She was a great teacher, and far better than professor Pei in Acct 311. Don't get me wrong, the class was really tough, but that's the nature of this class. She grades in a timely fashion, so you know where you stand always. Her exam questions are exactly like her quiz questions, and she provided a detailed study guide.
Pros: easy teaching style, well managed lectures depending on accounting classes, and reasonable amounts of homework to do or catch up. Cons: tests not prepared in a timely manner, quizzes use Respondus Lockdown, inability to keep up the pace during lectures, grades heavily on assignments and assessments.
She is a nice person but as a professor there is a lot that needs for her to improve! Her lectures does not prepare you enough for the exams! There is insane amount of homework and hard to catch up ! Her videos will not help but confuse you more ! I suggest to go read the book. The only good thing is that she gives fair amount of extra credits
The class is difficult but that is the reputation for the intermediate course. I did find the lectures more helpful than reading the book for the exams, which were challenging. Professor Yang was always available during office hours and would always respond promptly to emails.
Insane hw amounts. Why does she put practice problems as a requirement? Not everyone has extra time to do it.
Do not trust the 5s. It is not an exaggeration to say this is the worst accounting prof you can take. Assigns way more than 3 credit hours of work per week should be illegal. She is keenly aware of her reputation as if she gets joy from how bad she is known for. This course is infinitely easier with profs at other Cal state locations save your gpa.
The workload is a lot, with two insanely difficult projects. One of them, called "The City of Binghnam," is utterly useless in real life, yet it's worth a whopping 10% of your grade. She takes forever to grade the exams. If you're committed to continuing with accounting, it might be best to avoid her class.
Professors know her work so well that it is difficult for her to explain it properly. Sometimes, it felt like a lot of information at once. I would become overwhelmed; the best advice is to take good and detailed notes. This class shouldn't have been hybrid, but it made the class more difficult. But the professor shows she cares about students!
Good professor! Hands out extra credit and is always willing to help you out when you are lost. Would definitely recommend but you should know homework can take hours for you to finish.
Lectures do not prepare you for midterms or quizzes. Rewords problems to make them more difficult than what they need to be. Take this class with a different professor if you can.
Her lectures are very complicated to keep up with. Her exams do not correlate with what her lectures are. The work is worth more than 3 credits.
She was a nice professor but, her exams didn't correlate with her lectures. Also the percent for exams are very heavy si definitely need to rewatch lecture videos. She doesn't let you have any notes all the test and exams are closed notes. Also she doesn't slow down so your most likely going to be lost. Rarely accepts late work.
Do not take this professor. Save yourself the headache. Lots of work. Definitely more than 3 credits worth. Made the weight of assignments on canvas wrong. When she fixed it, during finals week, my overall percentage dropped 8%. She didn't notice until last minute. It was wrong THE WHOLE SEMESTER. Ridiculous!
This professor is knowledgable but CANNOT explain or teach properly. She excessively assigns way to much work for students and this class is definitely not worth the three credits they give you. Its worth way more. When she teaches, she monotonously writes the problem and the answer on the textbook on a white board in class. She cant teach well.
This professor does not teach and you will end up having to do all the work. She gets frustrated if you ask her basic questions and derives great pleasure from seeing her students fail. I am unsure as to why CSU East Bay is even letting a professor who teaches nothing stay as part of their faculty. Its really a disgrace for the entire university.
IMO, I found that Mrs Yang is not really a bad instructor. A lot of HW to finish and extra credits gave me a good chance of boosting up my grade and graduating early.
She does not teach well. She makes accounting boring and doesn't make students excited to learn. She was the only one teaching this section, come on CSUEB, have a good variety of accounting professor already. We do not all learn the same as students, and we should have options to pick more professors in the Accounting department.
Lecture videos are all over the place, hard to follow. She doesn't offer any additional learning material outside of the book (her lectures are the example problems in the book). Does not allow books or notes on quizzes, tests, or midterms in a class where the topics are advanced and are difficult to remember without notes or the textbook.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! Worst class ever. So much unnecessary work assigned, did over 200 questions each week. She has a thick accent which can be hard to understand, and her lectures are terrible. Just reads off slides and a whiteboard and explains NOTHING!!! Avoid at all costs!
