Has INTEGRITY! Refuses to live on the MOON! Retains his SANITY!
God this guy is crap......the textbook was useless and all he's about is shortcuts that his boss taught his since he's new to most of programs.
Teaches quick. Expects alot out of the student. Fun projects but not enough timeto complete them. Helpful during class. Ok test but tricky!
Up to date on the gaming industry. Gives a lot of sound advice if you're looking to persue a career in gaming.
Reasonable. Does his job well, and keeps interest. Fair, not a pushover. Def. a fav.
Very good teacher. Funny, easy to get along with, has a firm grasp of the material, not an easy class but not hard if you can grasp the concepts and material.
JJs the coolest! He has been a tremendous help along the way of attaining my AA degree in simulation and digital entertainment. He uses Flash as a development tool. Flash can be a devil at first but JJ helps soothe the tension by giving you code examples. He grades hard to push you to be the best which anyone can respect if you follow the industry
Very easy going, easy to follow along. Fact is he was a great teacher. Not to mention attractive :)
JJ is a great teacher and advisor. He stays late to help students and is always up to date with industry movement. He is a little hard but will make his best efforts to catch you up. His class is so fun but his grading scale is set up so only the student can hurt themselves. Great teacher and mentor!
He's nice, funny, and a great teacher. He's super hott too, just sayin.
His class is fun and easy I got an A. Don't buy the book everything is on the power points.
JJ is easily the best professor I had while attending CCBC. Programming can be complex but he has strong logic and guides you through the process expertly. He is an invaluable asset to the school and I am lucky to have taken his classes!
Overall good instructor. I took about 4-5 of his classes with mostly A's and B's. He's willing to stay over to help you. Good sense of humor. Concerned about his students. I had a slow start, and he gave me good advice on choosing a career. I graduated with honors.
I took this course online and the first couple weeks were fine. However after that this instructor was unreachable and inattentive. I learned nothing that I couldn't have taught myself,in fact I did actually teach myself. Students were directed to random websites to "learn" course material, emails went unanswered and assignments went ungraded.
I took this course online.Three weeks into the class the instructor was unreachable and inattentive. I taught myself. Students were directed to random websites to "learn" course material, emails went unanswered and assignments went ungraded.
very clear instruction for every assignment, always graded very quickly, enjoyable atmosphere, great teacher
Good teacher Not very friendly. Did not like to talk to me
He is very helpful when you are in class with him. If you have a question, he will help you to the best to his ability. However, he doesn't reply back until a day later when you email him. That is a problem and I would suggest you to ask him while you are in class. Don't wait to get home and email him because he's not going to respond right away.
Good class~JJ was cool and seemed to be quite knowledgeable and was there to help when needed. I liked the PPTs and the class was well organized by week online. I did refer to the textbook for myself but we did not really use it in class. I would have liked to have had more group critiques to see other people’s work and get feedback on my own work
If you have no prior knowledge to some of these programs it might be difficult for you since he goes through everything pretty quickly. Nice teacher, although can be pretty awkward. Accused me of plagiarizing in front of the entire class once and never apologized. Wished we could've seen everybody else's work though. Only got to see the finals.
JJ was very helpful when I was unable to find my way through the course. He responded to emails and graded very easy. When I visted his office hours, he was attentive and gave me options which were very helpful. I would easily and happily say that he is a great teacher!
Amazing teacher. I knew nothing about computers before this class, now I am interested in pursuing a career in this field. I had a lot of problems and questions during the final project, and he was incredibly helpful the entire time.
I wasn't expecting to fall in love with this class as much as I did. Actually looked forward to my homework every week.
JJ is a awesome teacher work is very cool but hard loved class just mad i took it in the summer.
Great Instructor. Helpful and knowledgeable. Coursework was challenging and time consuming for this particular condensed summer session. Wish I had a heads up and I would have taken it in the Fall. Would have liked more in class time.
Interesting Teacher
He was a cool teacher
Challenging and stimulating. I was impressed by Prof JJ's expertise. He really knows the subject matter. May seem a little stoic, but there's more under the surface. His Blackboard area was extremely well organized and helpful as were the assignment grading rubrics. An excellent teacher.
cool teacher, relates with students
The only problem I had is that the teacher did not keep up with grading when he had specific deadlines for assignments. So it really gave us no time to change a grade, because he just graded the assignments from March to May during Finals week.
JJ is really approachable when it comes to asking for help. I was really struggling with one of the concepts and he made himself available and wanted to see me succeed. Only negative thing was the class was very quick and lots of work because of it being a summer class. Had me stressed out!
Great Professor! I would suggest taking JJ for this class or any others he may teach! He really took time to explain anything you were unclear on. He really wanted success in all of his students! he checked emails regularly so he could help with anything you needed! His class was a little tough but if you keep up with all the work you will do fine.
Horrible class. Taking Art 109 online, no one's messages have been answered/projects been graded for a month and a half. Before that, it would take 3 weeks for him to reply, and the answers are only marginally useful. Do not take his class unless you already know how to use Flash.
Giving us a term paper in the middle of the semester really threw me for a loop! I would've been able to handle it better if I got the term paper around the same time as everyone else- believe it or not!
He's a good teacher, very knowledge-able, and if you ask him for help he will help you. Only problem I had with him was that he sucked upgrading grades on time but other than he's a good teacher.
The course material is great stuff I just don't like the way he teaches it, he should take everything's easy out of his vocabulary because people have different learning style He answers stuff late but he at least helps you when you seek help. I wish he was more patient and I don't like how he uses youtube as a default in a room setting classroom.
Pretty easy going, always there if you need help, very professional
JJ was an excellent professor. Before this class, I couldn't even spell Adobe Flash! He is extremely helpful both in and outside the classroom. I highly recommend him .
Bad at getting back to the class efficiently, online anyway. Responses to questions asked (as well as class announcements) would not be received until it was too late for the response to even matter (2-3 days later).
JJ makes things easy to learn. I took intro to interactive media with him and although I have taken two years of digital arts, I found that his class took me more in depth to Adobe software. His teaching style for Photoshop and Illustrator is more geared toward utility, but keep in mind that he is a programmer and not an artist.
funny and nice.
JJ was overall a good professor. I liked the flipped classroom approach (lectures at home and work in class). His learning modules and weekly content was extremely clear. He didn't do a great job of explaining how to do things on the programs though. I often was lost, and i even have prior knowledge of animation. Overall he is an okay teacher.
Not very good at responding back. Awful at grading. Does not provide enough examples or sometimes none. Half of the time I don't know what Im doing. Not too helpful.
It seems like this teacher mainly cares that you do the work, on time. Its been a good semester and the professor was helpful throughout the semester, and graded in a timely fashion. My only issue was that some of the things were kind of left to figure out on your own. (Animation Lab) Though there were instructions, it still took doing it yourself.
I took this course online, he made sure to provide enough materials in order for us to fully understand the content, EXCEPT the Animation Lab! which we had to figure out kind of on our own with little to no practice with the software. also it was worth TOOOO many points toward our grade :( liked this course but wish i finished stronger..
JJ is literally my favorite professor that I have ever had at CCBC!!! Really enjoyed coming to class every day because there was always a task!!!
Not good
only take this class if you no flash because he won't help you
very lazy teacher
I Found Professor Chandler's Class inspiring. The online teaching method prior to class gave me time to absorb the work which prepare me for, in class activity and time to meet the submission deadlines he set. My note taking isn't always on point. Which made this teaching method Ideal. I wish more professor's would adapt this method.
Professor Chandler was a great teacher. He allowed people at slower paces to ask questions and catch up during in-class lectures. He allowed those who wanted to leave after the lecture and work on labs at home to do so, but the whole rest of the class period was lab time. I would recommend taking this class in-person.
Clearly lists what he's looking for in his assignments and gives feedback on anything that misses the mark. Gives practical examples of the concepts he teaches and what he's looking for as well.
For a student at my age, I didn't think I had any creativeness in my mind. This course makes you think outside the box. The task is simple, but very challenging. I really like this course.
Professor Chandler was great. It was clear from our very first week that he's incredibly passionate about teaching and the specific art that he teaches. I'd recommend him any day.
Professor Chanlder was very good at giving feedback quickly and looked at your projects to let you know what needs to be fixed so you can pass. He wants you to understand the software and understand your study and become better at graphic design. I enjoyed his class and he gives you a lot of time to finish projects. I recommend his class!
I thought doing this class online would be difficult but I was wrong. The professor made weekely lessons in which all material where posted online and also provided recordings from other classes that help contribute to note taking and studying when I needed it. He was always available and had its reply of emails.
Professor Chandler was respectful and considerate. Whenever I emailed him he answered as soon as possible. Class was fun and engaging. I learned a lot about graphic design and had a good time making my projects. Overall, a great experience!
Professor Chandler is a wonderful professor! Every week was filled with detailed notes and even fun projects. I really enjoyed all of the material I learned in this class!
Professor Chandler was very nice and gives a clear feedback for our projects. He was very easy to talk to, very patient and explained things as many times until we understand the problem. Its an easy A if you're doing all of your projects according to the instructions he gave you. I would highly recommend him.
I was very interested in the patience with which the teacher explained the topics and how he took the time to break down the topics as much as he could and thus make the terms clear to the students, in addition to explaining with examples and in my opinion, It was easier to understand that way.
He was laid back and flexible. If you turned things in on time, he gave you the chance to resubmit to improve your grades. Great communicating what he expected of each assignment. The class was pretty cool especially if you like computer design and animation. If you enjoy using Pixlr (similar to photoshop) and Scratch you will enjoy his class.
Great professor overall. The projects are not too difficult once he teaches you about the stuff, they just become time consuming if you wait till last minute. You can turn stuff in late with no penalty and revise stuff after he grades it so you can get points back. Only thing is the final paper is pretty boring. Highly recommend this professor.
THERE WAS NO ADEQUATE FORUM FOR COMMUNICATING WITH THE PROFESSOR. This professor habitually does not respond to student email, or his responses are perfunctory and don't address the questions or issues the student brought up in the previous email. Lack of electronic communication in this fully online class was a serious issue for me.
Always talk to Professor Chandler if there is an issue.
Professor Chandler is a really good teacher that cares about your success. He responds to questions in a timely matter and even encourages you to come to him if you need help with an assignment. I would definitely take his classes again!
Very hard grader but makes his expectations very clear. I am not tech savvy which was the point of this class so I did not enjoy the class. He gave opportunities to re-submit assignments after they are graded to get a better grade. He communicates very well and is very responsive. The projects are very time consuming.
Professor Chandler gave me an unfair grade. He was not professional and he simply went against what he put in his syllabus. I earned the minimum amount of points to receive an A in his class. But Professor Chandler, input my final grade as a B. This instructor does not honor the syllabus and I deserve to get the grade I earned.
Professor Chandler genuinely seems to want his students to succeed, and even allows students to resubmit their projects after grading them. Grading criteria is clear, and project requirements and instructions are simple and unambiguous. His lectures are common sense, clear, and easy to understand.
Professor Chandler is a brilliant professor with a great sense of humor. He's very generous with deadlines, instead of feeling like you're stuck with a grade he always gives every student a chance to improve. As a professor his lessons offer the ability to learn from your mistakes, and he always makes time for students who need his help.
This course was amazing! He recorded all the lectures which was very usefully to be able to look back on how he used a specific tool or how he used code and such. He will do everything in his power to help you succeed in his course all he wants is for you to get all the points you can. I learned so much from this class and I'm so glad I took it!
I loved the fact that he walked you through the assignments and even gave examples of them. The recorded lectures are wonderful for students who don't remember everything from lecture and the assignments are fun to create. Great teacher, I would definitely take another course with him.
JJ is great. Made learning all of the material pleasurable. Definitely would take another of his classes.
Professor Chandler was a great teacher. Answers questions very well, not much work. If you do the assignments and follow the directions, you'll get a good grade
All assignments/projects are well explained. If you lose points you didn't follow directions. Need help - ask. Would definitely take another class.
The professor was great and explained the topics clearly and in an engaging way. The projects we did in class were fun and relevant, helping students adequately learn the subject matter. The only downside to his class is that the feedback for individual projects was a little thin, though he does provide general feedback to the whole class.
I believe that Professor Chandler is an amazing professor, who is very easy to work with. He will be there for you when you ask for help and will provide office hours after class or during our break time. He' very understanding of you if you have a question and will immediately offer help. He's also a very down to Earth and easygoing guy.
Easygoing teaching style and Professor Chandler always make sure you're prepared for each assignment. Really great professor and very knowledgeable.
Professor Chandler was a great professor. As a freshman it was hard to adjust to the change it was so hard for me this semester and he was very helpful when it came to helping me ONE ON ONE. He showed that he cared for every single individual taking his course! I would definitely take this course again.
It is a great professor; I learned a lot.
Solid teacher for design subjects, grading criteria is very clear and helpful. Would definitly recommend to any beginner artists as he makes a lot of the basic communication aspects of art and design very clear and easy to understand.
It was a great semester having Prof. Chandler for ARTD109. He makes it easy to pass this class....only if you do the work. He gives lots of chances to make things up so failing this class is outrageous. He's fair and gets straight to the point. The only thing is he doesn't share his Jimmy John's sandwiches. Lol.
I loved this class! It was very organized and the professor was committed to accessibility - he offered so many free/cheap resources and had no late penalties! Lectures were fun and interesting. He really knows his stuff, has great emotional intelligence, and it's very clear that he wants his students to pass.
Professor chandler is by far one of the best professors i've ever had, if not the best. The amount of in depth engaging lectures with affordable resources is mind blowing. He's opened my eyes to principles and techniques that i never considered before. 100% would take again. very humorous and fun to talk to. my goat
