He was uncaring towards the class and just read straight off his PowerPoint without elaborating. He acted as if he were reviewing for a group that already knew the material
horrible horrible horrible teacher.does not know how to teach. worst class ive taken so far at sdsu. all he does is read the whatever is on power point, never going into any detail.he doesnt even give you time to write anything down so its pointless to try and take notes or even go to class when you can just read the powerpoint later.the tests suck
Worst professor I had so far. Class average on the tests was 50%. Reads everything off powerpoint, so you have to read and get the material basically by yourself.
This is the worst teacher I have ever had. He doesn't even teach. He just reads the power points that the book provides for him. The power points are online so it is pointless to go to class. He expects u to only study chem and spend ur whole life studying for chem. His test are impossible. There is not enough time to finish and the material is har
The worst teacher I have ever had. The saying "Those who can't do teach" was made for this man. He makes the simplest of subjects incredibly difficult. Going to the help room is pretty helpful because the TA's are much better than Love. If you have to take Chem 100 I would wait until he isn't teaching. The class average is around 54%.
worst professor ever. everyone basically is failing in this class. average test grades is less than 50%. can't teach at all, only rads powerpoint and very fast as well.
This professor constantly talks down to the class and has said if we don't get an A or a B in his class that we will work at McDonalds the rest of our lives. His tests are ridiculous, he doesn't TEACH the material at all,and it's a waste of time to go to his lectures when you have to learn it all by yourself anyways.
worst, worst, worst teacher i ever had! Avoid at any price! He weren't born to teach.. Class average on the tests is 50%. Horrible
He's a fwkin retard! It seems like he's trying to fail students and ruin their gpa! Even the brightest of all get low scores on the tests. Suckest teacher ever.
This guy is simply a terrible professor. When you walk into his class, there are usually 50 people sleeping. The guys voice just puts you to sleep. The worst part about him is how he helps prepare for tests. This guy is just terrible. Hope and pray you don't get him
I did not learn anything from this teacher, his lecture was a waste of time. Had to study from the book and still the tests were impossible to finish, because TIME did not match the amount of work that had to be done for each question. Hmwk had nothing to do with the questions on tests. Very frustrating class
My worst professor this year period. If you're taking chem 100 do not take his class. On the last two exams(which are worth practically your entire grade) the class average was an F.
This class is the hardest class I've ever had to take. No point in lectures, because you learn more from the book. The test are nearly impossible and studying seems like it gets you no where. He claims that the tests are so straight forward, but no. a 34% on my test averaged a C... enough said. Curve will help, but sometimes not enough. DONT GET HI
Horrible class. This is the hardest class I've ever had. You HAVE to use up all of your semester time on this class in order to just get a B-. The class average is a 48%. Love doesn't know how to teach chemistry in terms that students can understand. You literally teach yourself from the book.
You are going to fail. He is the worst professor, EVER. There's no point in going to lectures because he just reads the power point. His voice is very monotone. He yells at you if you pack up 2-3 minutes early for another class. He lectures everybody about getting a high GPA but we can't obtain one if we're FAILING YOUR CLASS.
RUN. AWAY. NOW. seriously, i know rate my professor is kind of hit or miss with ratings but these are all correct. how can you pass a class with teacher that doesn't do anything? oh and on top of that he criticizes everyone who gets below an a on the exams. currently our class average is around or below 50% so run away while you can.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! I have taken over 40 college classes. I'm in my a third semester at SDSU. I know how to study and my gpa is evidence. John Love is the worst professor I have EVER taken a class from. His tests are designed for you to fail, he teaches at a level far lower than the challenge his test's offer. Utilize a JC for chem! REALLY!
Terrible!! Be prepared to teach yourself chemistry because his lectures do not help, there are 3 exams and one final, studying gets you no where exams are hard. go to the TA office hours. I got a C with the curve. I began the class with a B and one exam brought me down 9%! If you can take it at a JC i really recommend it.
At first I was like 'cool my chem prof is named dr. love'...now when i hear that name i get shivers. The tests are extremely difficult, you will NOT get an A as hard as you try. The people who get A's in the class are those who had to repeat it (and there were lots of them this year). Stay clear, this professor is ridiculous.
EXTREMELY DIFFICULT, C is barely possible, A is impossible. A lecture we had after one of tests was just 500 students complaining to him that the test was rigorious and he did not prepare us at all. 500 students complaining-at the same time. You would think it told him to cut us some slack because he sucks, but no. Final slapped us all in the face
okay class. got an a- or a w/ the curve. he gives the students hints on quizzes and test so no need to study 9 hours per week as syllabus says. i studied 3 hours before each exam and did better than the curve. you just need to know what to study for and know what Love emphasizes ((((((:
i rated this professor already, but a good TA helps a lot. I recommend Manna Iwabuchi, if she continues to be there.
Dr. Love is not interesting at all during his lectures. I frequently fell asleep and then eventually stopped going to class because I thought it useless by the way he teaches. He assumes that the material is already known if just one person answers a question correctly. Unfortunately he's the only Chemistry 100 professor currently teaching at SDSU.
the prof is okay. If you pay attention during lecture and actually do the homework(not copying from a friend or back of the book) and study a little before tests, you'll do fine. I did this and got an A-he can go really fast though. I used the text book A LOT. the curve was reasonable. the only problem was that tests were a little to long.
It helps if you read the book and lecture slides ahead of time before attending class because he only spends time on the major aspects of each chapter. If he's going over a slide for a LONG time, it's most likely to appear on the exam! PAY ATTENTION to his hints in class! It's helpful towards the tests and take advantage of his office hours.
I found Professor Loves lecutures to be stimulating and informational. If you share the same passion i do for learning you will not struggle in this class!! Of course not everyone is as smart as me!
Print out the slides ahead of time and bring them to class to take notes on. He even provided them on Blackboard in the layout with the lines next to the slide. Helped me take notes a lot faster because he moves quickly. I don't understand how you can not pass the class if you go to lecture, take notes, DO THE HOMEWORK, and study. Huge curve!
MUST READ THE BOOK!.. and try to teach yourself everything before attending class. He gives quick reviews of the material, but in order to understand what's going on YOU MUST READ THE BOOK before class! SERIOUSLY!
Fast-paced class that requires effort, especially out of class. Read before/after class and start studying at LEAST 4-5days in advance. You really have to understand the basics to understand the rest of the course. DO ALL EXTRA CREDIT!! This can potentially really help your grade! The class is meant to prepare us for 200, so it is challenging.
Study your butt off!!! Requires lots of reading and practice. Dr. Love is way too smart to teach Chem100. It would be better if he was able to "dumb it down." Luckily, he bumped my grade from a B+ to an A- for doing the extra credit schedule, flashcards, and having good clicker pts. Chemistry courses are always hard and this was no exception!!
He's an awesome teacher. If you study, attend lab, and do the homework, you'll do fine. People who complain about failing, are the ones that don't study or even try. His class is awesome!
PRE REQUISITE IS CHEMESTRY 200!!!!!, honestly if you didnt take ap chem and get a 5 on the ap test dont expect to even get a C, i wish i was in last semesters class WHICH HE CURVED!!! WARNING he is no longer curving, so that 50% class average has dropped to a 35% class average, worst class ever please dont take seriously
Has 3 exams & 1 cumulative final. This class is reasonable. Although I didn't get an A, & failed one of the exams, I know it was my fault. If you do everything you're suppose to then you should be fine. However, if you're like me & you begin to procrastinate then don't complain when you don't pass the class. So far, I have a B.
AVOID HIM! Change your major honestly save yourself the trouble of going through his class then changing it anyways. he goes so fast that taking notes is impossible, also wont let you bring laptops to class. IMPOSSIBLE
Dr. Love is way to smart to be teaching an INTRO class. He means well, is very knowledgeable, but unless he knows you and is your best-friend, you're nothing to him. TAKE KATHY MCNAMERA. The exams are pretty hard and the lectures are very unclear. If you don't understand something, don't ask him for help. The average person will pass. Good luck...
He is a smart professor, but the things he lectures on in class do not have anything to do with the test. Class is very difficult but it is curved in the end. Study any chemistry related material you can get ahold of because he pulls things out of nowhere and expects you to be an expert when it comes to the test.
dr.love is too smart to teach chem 100. he acts like we should know everything and studying chem should be our lives. tests are ridiculously hard and the final is too. he reads off the powerpoints which are just the book, so you basically have to teach the class. turn in homework, study hard, do well on labs, quizzes, and homeworks!
Oh, what to say about Dr. Love... he may be a brilliant scientist, but he's a poor teacher. He assumes that if you aren't getting an A in the class, you aren't studying. He can be rude and abrupt when you ask him questions, but if you are persistent he will help you. If you need to take his class, form a serious study group early on. Good luck.
He is brilliant but doesn't know how to explain things so that his students will understand. Try and take the class with a different professor
Both professors are bad for this class. Love knows what he's talking about but goes very fast and expects students to know everything he teaches with their eyes closed. Highest grade in our 500person class was 83% going into the final. Class was curved about + 8% to final grade. 10 HW which are long and odd formatting
Horrible call as if chemistry wasn't hard enough dr. Love makes it harder to understand. He's to smart to teach this class. Uses big words and seems like he Expects you to know about chemistry when Ypu walk in the door. Class is extremely boring ! If you get a good TA it's helpful.
I don't understand all the negative comments. My brother took him last year and got an A, I'm taking him this year and find the class pretty easy. Just read the book before lecture and your good. He's a great professor in my opinion.
Dr. Love is too smart to be teaching this class. Yes he does go really fast during lectures, but you have to understand that there is a lot to cover in a short amount of time. Attend all the lectures, study before and after class, do the homework days before it's due and make sure you do the practice exams he puts online. Also, CHEM is really hard.
i wouldn't take this class as a freshmen if you are not ready for a college level class such as this. Many people do fail because they don't know how to study and they are freshmen. I'm doing fine in the class but i study alot before the tests. Understand the concepts before coming to class. Spend a good amount of time on each concept too.
Study all the practice exams, go to lecture, do well in lab and you should at least pass. This class requires a lot of studying, but it's not impossible.
His class takes a lot of studying! But it is not impossible. Do well in labs and quizzes cause those points could help you in the end. Make sure to study all lecture material and practice tests and quizzes for exams. Dr. Love is very bright but I think he's too smart to be teaching chem 100.
Love goes through lectures quick and expects you to understand the concept as soon as he moves to the next slide. So individual studying is essential. Just dedicate a good amount of time to the class and honestly try. Something I never did. I bombed all the tests and quizzes but did good in lab and had all my clicker points. Got a C
I took his class spring 2012, it was fast pace and very difficult to keep up with while taking other sciences class. Focus on chem. 4 exams . labs are easy and exams are what make your grade. the curve helps teach yourself from the book
Smart man, not a great teacher. TAs are much more helpful. Hard to approach. Makes some students want to drop out, which isn't a good quality, especially for a lower division professor.
Terrible class, He does not teach very well at all, most of the class did not get an A or a B.. My friends and i studied super hard for the exams and still coundnt get past a D on it. He said quote, that we should be studying "While driving and taking showers".. otherwise, if you dont get an A, it assumes its our faults.Yes he did yell at our class
Dr. Love is awful, you should really stay away from his course. Chemistry is already a very difficult subject, and it's worse with him. He's too smart to teach this course, and he lacks clarity. He blames students for doing bad on his exams. I studied hard and got a B- w/ the curve. There needs to be more times for exams, because I felt rushed.
This class is hard but it is not impossible to pass. The curve helps out a lot and some of the TAs are cool and helpful. Professor Love lectures are not confusing if you read the book and print out the lecture notes online. And I would attend offices hours every week and stay after lab. This class just need a lot of time studying.
Chemistry requires many hours of studying. That said, I think Dr. Love is a great instructor and I would take him again. Tests are hard and it is a challenge to finish on time. He provides after class help sessions and practice exams that are similar to the exams he gives. If you put in the study hours you can do well.
Dr.Love was a great professor. His class was difficult but he spent a lot of time after class holding reviews. His office hours were helpful and my TA was super helpful too. If you do the homework, read the book, and understand how to do the practice exams, and stay for after class reviews, it is manageable! I got an A through doing those things.
Dr. Love is a great professor. Chem is not an easy subject, so be prepared to study hard. Read the textbook before going to lectures and make flash cards for the key terms in each chapter. Don't be afraid to go to office hours for help, he is an approachable guy. TAs also hold office hours.
He makes Chem. complicated. Does not put effort into teaching. Extremely rude with attitude. His tests are extremely hard. If you want to fail, take his class.
This class was a total nightmare my biggest fear is failure and this class was a constant struggle. It requires a lot of work especially if you don't have good background on Chemistry. I suggest looking into other classes before considering this one.
This class is slightly hard, and I feel that most students that come into his class do not realize what a difficult course this can be. Dr. Love does a good job of covering all of the course material during his lectures, and he has no desire to deal with students who do not study. Study for this class, and you will pass it. Fear the Forehead.
Attendance was mandatory because of clicker questions. 3 tests & 1 cumulative final. 6 Lab quizzes (lowest score dropped). Weekly online homework (which actually help studying for quizzes). Overall a pretty good professor; challenging but fair. MUST STUDY REGULARILY!!
This may be Chem 100, but if you want a good grade in the class, you have to devote many hours to studying. 3 midterms, 1 final. Don't bother taking notes unless he says it's going to be on the test. The notes he goes over are posted online. There are clicker questions, but they aren't worth much.
This is a challenging course and Dr. Love expects you to learn the material thoroughly and in detail. He is an excellent professor, but I think that a STRONG foundation in organic and general chemistry is essential if you want to succeed in this class. If you have the foundation and a strong interest in the subject, I would absolutely recommend.
To be fair, this is a hard class. He tells you this on day 1 and allows you to make your decision based on that knowledge. This is an UL class so you have to put in work. He does curve the class. Strong background in O-Chem 1 is a must. Did I mention study? Oh, make sure you score 100% on his online hw assignments. They are pretty easy wink wink!
He constantly says, "This will be on the exam," but those things are NEVER on the exams. READ READ READ because he will pull ANYTHING from the chapter for the exams, even things he says will NOT be on the exam (lies). Managed a B thanks to the curve; studied harder than I ever had in my life. I have heard that the other teacher is MUCH easier.
Dr. Love is the sweetest guy ever. Spent an hour with him 1 on 1 in office hours twice a week the whole semester, And he was awesome about it. Tough course. Just read the chapter the day before or before class and it will HELP! Study on weekends, After classes, DO HOMEWORK ONLINE, and read the chapters early and you will PASS! :)
One of the hardest classes I've taken, I had to work so hard for my B-. Coming in as a freshmen in APHonors taking Community college during highschool 4.1 GPA, yeah this class is hard. AP chem saved my life and slightly prepared me for this class. Needed a tutor and spent hours a week doing homework and studying, AVOID THIS CLASS BAD TEACHER!
He's an incredibly rude person and not helpful. Gives no time to students and is abrasive if you seek help.
Rude to students who ask questions. Eventually, people just stopped raising their hands. To save you some time: rarely the things he says are possible tests questions are actually on exams. Read the chapters thoroughly & do the problems at the end of each. My notes from lecture were pretty much useless for the actual exam material.
I taught myself this subject; the only things I gained from his class were arbitrary rules that were relevant only to his exams. Find the TAs! They helped me bc the text often falls short in explanation to the point where the concept is incomprehensible. Answer the clicker ?s before class and don't rely on his lectures for content comprehension.
THIS IS SUCH A HARD CLASS!! Dr. Love is a horrible teacher and NEVER explains things right. Makes everything wayy more complicated than it needs to be and is a total grouch when it comes to answering questions! Definitely avoid him as much as possible! By the way, tests are IMPOSSIBLE!
Dr. Love could not teach a monkey how to peel a banana if he tried. Chemistry itself is difficult but Dr. Love does not even in the slightest help his students to understand. I would rather watch paint dry on growing grass than listen to his monotone voice talk. Avoid him at all costs.
HARDEST CLASS I HAVE TAKEN In My 20 years of existence. The tests are very hard because he purposely wants to confuse you so he could test you if you understand the concepts in their entirely. He is pretty bad at teaching, he goes really fast so I teach myself, and it ain't easy breezy. Im just hoping the curve saves me and please avoid this class!
I'm retaking Chem 100 again & I chose to take his course. He is fair, he offers tutoring monwed after class to help prepare for midterms & he has office hours so there are plenty of resources available for you to pass this class, anyone who complains is an idiot & clearly doesn't try to do well. You get the grade you deserve. He is a great prof.
Prof Love is amazing! He really knows his stuff on Energy. He related his lectures to events that are currently happened around the world . He is comfortable with our small class and gets to know you on a first name bases . There was weekly article quizzes as well as problems through the semester. These are "tests" that you do at home and no final
This class was very though. that being said, it is in YOUR hands whether you will pass or not. chem is not an easy course, but if you manage to make this course your priority then you should be fine. I passed, BARELY BUT I got through, by dedicating about 8 hrs a week of tutoring and studying since I was extremely lost. Just study, study, STUDY!
ridiculously hard class, he tells you that since day 1. pretty confusing and it is really hard to keep up with him. try to avoid this class, but if you just have to take it, then I suggest to study a lot and ask a lot of questions because in the exams he wants to make sure you understand 100% of the material so study all concepts.
Take Placement Test, DO IT. If you want to take it, the material will help you for your future Chemistry classes. 1st test was the easiest because its a High School refresher. 2nd and 3rd Tests are TOUGH. Final on average was 75%. He only curved 5% at the end of semester (I got 75% B-) Go to his Mon, Wed Bootcamp! Chem Labs and quizzes Annoying
Dr. Love is one of my favorite Professors at SDSU, he comes off a little grumpy but he's actually a really nice and funny dude. SIT IN THE FRONT ROW!!!!
Love is not a bad guy, but takes this class too seriously. Way too many clicker questions. YOU HAVE TO READ. He is also not joking when he says you should study 12-15 hours a week. It's a difficult class but you have to work for your grade. Go to his bootcamps. Make this class a priority and you'll be fine.
Dr Love seems to expect a lot from students but in return he does offer a ton of helpful resources such as chem boot camp, office hours, and making sure everyone know about the chem help room. Overall he's a great professor who really cares.
Dr Love expects a lot from students but he also always gives a ton of resources for you to pass. Overall he's a great professor and he seems to actually care about students grades if he sees that you're trying.
I had to teach myself all the material. His lectures are confusing and he does not explain the material well. The tests are ridiculously difficult, even if you understand the concepts and study as much as he tells you to.
Get the book. Read each chapter using his chapter notes as an outline. Do all the example problems in the book. I feel like his lectures were pointless, especially the clicker points. I learned everything by teaching myself and I got an A in the class. When I'd come to class, he'd just confuse me. Go to his boot camp if you are lost.
The class is very difficult but Love gives you all the tools necessary for you to pass. You'll fail if you don't study
If you pay attention, do the hw, and do the practice exams you'll get an A. There is also a large grade curve aka 85 and up is an A.
Honestly, Chem 100 is NOT as bad as people say it is. If you're lazy and not willing to know the material, you're going to have a hard time. Love does a good job of explaining concepts. He goes fast at times, so it's helpful to look at the powerpoint on your phone while in lecture. Overall, good class!
Love is a good guy and does his best to help his students. You have to work hard for an A. Take advantage of his boot camp. He goes fast during lectures so it's hard to understand the material. Use his practice exams to prepare for the tests. I received better grades on the tests when I did those and got help on the concepts I didn't understand.
Honestly this guy is probably one of the worst professors I've ever had in my 3 years so far at state. Attended all lectures and all labs. Lectures never helped even with reading the book prior. he's awful at explaining and his tests are impossible. Although I did everything I could to do well and even understood material, i still didn't pass.
Confusing lectures, hard test unless you really know what you're doing.
This was a very tough class. Unless you're a chemistry major I doubt you'l enjoy going to the lectures, however they help a lot. DO the online homework over a couple days and really focus on learning the material then! sometimes you have to teach yourself but there is boot camp and office hours if you ever need help. Study throughout the semester.
i don't know what everyone talking about. but Mr. Love is an amazing professor but this was a hard class. He was interesting in lecture so i didn't sleep. he really tries to help. i went to almost every office hour, and he seems mean during office hours and you may not wanna go again, but it is really tough love. he won't baby you. read the book.
I don't know what everyone is talking about, Love is a great professor! Yes, chemistry is hard but he goes out of his way to make it understandable to all students. He holds a boot camp and goes over questions almost identical to the exams. Go to boot camp and do the practice exams. You'll end up with a great grade and an ever better experience!
Chem 100 is a hard class to begin with but Dr. Love does his best to help his students understand. You definitely need to work hard to receive an A in this class but it is possible! Go to lecture, read the book, go to boot camp, spend time on homework, do practice problems at end of each chapter, and do the practice exams.
Difficult as an entry level chemistry class. Very important to get off on the right foot in this class. Take it seriously, and the old practice exams will be very useful. Go to boot camp whenever possible. It made the difference between a C and a B.
Love's class is extremely challenging, it is not impossible to do well, but you really have to put in many hours of studying because his tests are very difficult. He is not always clear in his lectures and he moves through them very fast. Always do the homework after lecture to learn the material. Try not to miss any lectures!
Seems like a cool guy, definitely knows his stuff. Despite that, the exams are very hard compared to the online homework and practice worksheet. I feel like I know my stuff when I go in, but only get a low C on the exam for each one. For an entry level chem class, you'll have to work. The homework is also usually over 60 questions for each chapter.
Very good professor. It is chem 100 so it is going to be hard no matter what. Go to lecture and take notes and try clicker questions and you will be good. Read the textbook and take notes it helps. The practice exams he posts on blackboard are very similar to the real tests so do them. sweetest guy ever.
Love's lectures were somewhat helpful so do not rely solely on his lectures. At times, he isn't very clear with certain topics so GO TO SI FOR EXTRA CLARIFICATION. He uses clickers ALL THE TIME and they will add up and will probably help boost your grade if you're borderline. He's not the best, he's alright.
I enjoyed Dr. Love's CHEM 100 class. I thought his lectures were very interesting despite being fast paced. I needed to review the lectures a few times to actually understand the material. Doing the online homework also helped a lot. He provides practice exams on Blackboard, which I thought were the most useful way to prepare for exams.
Love's lectures are very heavy in material. The midterms are pretty hard but if you study enough you can def make it, my first midterm was an F, on the other two midterms and the final I got an A so he dropped my first midterm. Love is always telling you what will be on the midterms, the final and the weekly quizzes so you'll be prepared.
Love is a funny guy. His lectures come straight from the textbook. He can sometimes get off topic, which is really annoying. He answers questions during lecture and explains them well.
Professor Love was probably one of the best professors at SDSU. He has clicker points available everyday which will help your grade at the end of the semester. Exams are curved, and he tells you what to study. He uploads old exams that are VERY similar to the exam he will have you take. GO TO SI and DON'T take lab on Mondays!
Love's class wasn't too bad. It was scary during the beginnings weeks but as time went on he was very chill professor. The clicker questions can get very intense but its all good cause they are worth only 5 percent of your grade so its okay if you miss some. The only bad part of this class is that he left us for 2 weeks . But overall it was good.
Stupid hard class.
I have always been someone who works hard and has done well in school, but he is actually no help, speeds through his lecture content and doesn't help. He left our class for 3 and 1/2 weeks and we were stuck learning Chemistry off of you tube. Not nice and seriously doesn't care about his students. Take another professor if possible!!!
I personally didn't do well in his class and failed Chem 100 the first time. After doing 20x more work with a different professor and passing with only a C I wished that I would've actually tried in Dr. Love's class. He isn't a hard professor at all and he actually cares about his students. If you ask, he will answer until you get it so JUST TRY!!!
CHEM563 is called Nucleic Acids Function and meant for biochemistry majors. Anyways, class is tough due to how the exams are written (multiple choice) but half of the questions are tricky and the other half in some way direct. Go to class and review the lectures and the book if something is not clear. No HW and there's a 9-10% curve at the end.
Speeds through lectures. Doesn't actually teach, just talks about a few of the concepts, and does problems. This class is so much harder than it should be.
Lectures are fast paced. Chem requires a lot of math so if you don't have your basic algebra down then you will struggle in his class. Ppl fail bc they neither read nor study enough for exams. Read, try to get 100% on HWs, do decent on clicker Qs, do all the worksheets he posts online to review for exams & I guarantee you'll ace the class.
In comparison to other Chem 100 professors at SDSU, Love is probably your best option. Although his lectures can be boring, he does try to prepare you with youtube videos, practice problems, clicker questions and office hours. The class itself is hard and you will need to study A LOT outside of lectures and labs. Also, highly recommend A+ review!
Don't take his class. Take any other professor for Chemistry 100.
Yes, his class is hard but he literally gives you everything you need to do pass the tests. If you go to class and re-watch the lectures and do the practice exams you will pass. He tells you what's on the test. He simplifies the math with conversions. He helped me change my study habits. PUT IN THE WORK seriously for every class and you will pass
Dr. Love is by far one of the best science teachers Ive ever had. He gives you ALL the tools you need to pass his class, its just up to the you to put in the work. I took this class last semester with another professor and lets just say students this semester got lucky to have such a helpful professor. LISTEN when he says this will be on exam.
Dr. Love was a pretty good professor. Read the chapter notes ahead of time to understand before lectures. His daily clicker questions were very helpful. Tells you what you need to know for the exams and even provided practice exams a week before the actual exams which was nice. Got a C- last sem with a different professor so Love was a nice change
Dr. Love was a good professor in the sense that he worked a lot of problems and helped you to do well if you just pay attention. BUT he is SUPER aggressive and likes to yell at the students a lot. Not a fan of Dr. Love.
If you don't need chem100, don't do it.
Love is harsh, but he tries his hardest to help. He would do more if the department wasn't so strict. Procrastinate, and kiss your GPA goodbye. You must prioritize this class. Chem is hard, but if you legitimately put in the work and use your resources, you'll be ok. Practice exams are very similar to real ones. Overall grade is curved.
Boring lectures, but very informative. If you skip class it's not the end of the world, but you should put in the work to make up for it. Overall grade was curved (85A,75B) so that's cool. Clicker questions are hard + quick, study for those. Daily online HW w/ 60+ questions, which was more helpful for me than lecture.
Chem 100 is a hard class, but it will be easy if you put your eyes on it. Please don't take it if you don't have a specific time for it. The good thing is about Professor Love. He is very dedicated, and he will help you out whenever you come to his available office hours.
DO ALL THE HOMEWORK & DO WELL ON THE LABS!! 100% on labs & hw YOU PASS. I got an F on the 1st test, D- on the 2nd, F on the 3rd & D+ on the Final. I ONLY PASSED BC I DID GOOD ON HW & LABS. Tests are extremely hard & at least 5 fill in the blanks are on each test. There's a curve. I would say take another teacher, but they're all mean & not good.
YALL. Theres so much content to learn with so little things being inputted into the grade book. THE EXAMS are worth so much. I am freaking out because i have an A in homework and clickers, but my test grade is HORRIBLE. the class avg for test one was 78,and he said that was the highest ever, the second was 68. SUPER TEST HEAVY.
Need a good chemistry background to understand this teacher. He goes really fast during lectures so I would just go for clicker points then watch the lectures after. His lectures make no sense and jump all over the place. His practice exams are almost identical to the real exam except he changes wordings making true to false so study those hard.
This is honestly the first chem class I've ever enjoyed taking at state. Dr Love is a great lecturer and really knows the material. The tests are the main part of your grade but he gives a practice test that is really similar to the exams. Rewatch lectures, the way questions are phased are verbatim how what he says in class.
Dr. Love is a great teacher and actually cares about students learning and doing well in class. The class covers a lot of material so you need to keep up with it, but as long as you pay attention in class, do the h.w, and put a little effort into understanding the material you'll be fine. Best class I've taken in SDSU so far. Challenging but fun.
Dr. Love is a great teacher but he can be very rude during office hours. Know a lot before you go talk to him one on one and you should be okay. Study the practice test for sure!!
I took Chem 365 because I'm premed and he taught the material pretty well. He says, "Know this for the test" and take him seriously, it's a free easy points on the test.
I don't care much for biochem as a subject which made it really hard to study for exams. It didn't help that Dr. Love taught as if all his students were premed and often disregarded other student's goals. However, he did teach the material well and if you put in a good amount of effort, it is possible to get an A.
Dr. Love is a pretty good teacher, but the material and the class are very hard. I'm normally a straight A student, but this class was hard. You have to pay attention and rewatch lectures, because every tiny detail matters. He gives a practice exam, but changes it from being the pick correct statement, to incorrect. 3 exams worth 30% of grade each.
As a very serious student, having taken numerous intense science courses, I can say that Dr. Love's Biochemistry course was rather difficult. Even so, it was an amazing experience. He teaches it from the perspective of a researcher which makes this biochemistry course in unique, relative to others. Def grateful to have had him as a professor!
Whoever says to take this class and that dr Love is amazing professor is genuinely lying. Do not take him. Yes he does lectures but he doesnt explain anything what so ever. Seriously is such a horrible professor and Im a straight A student. DO NOT TAKE HIM
No, dont take love. If you do, DO THE OWL ASSIGNMENTS. Exams are very difficult. Clicker points are the only reason I went to class (mandatory points). His lectures are a lot, he goes fast and you will most likely gain nothing from them. If there is another profesor, choose them. He sometimes is funny but that does nothing to my grades. I cried.
Dr. Love is a funny guy and his lectures are pretty interesting even though he tends to ramble off topic more often than not. If you read the textbook and stay on top of your OWL assignments you will be fine!
Likes to go off topic during lectures. Seems to jump all over the place in the 100+ lecture slides. Goes through them way too quickly and isn't actually good at explaining a lot of the material. Textbook didn't help much either. Honestly doing the owl hw & seeing examples given helped much more. Exams are pretty difficult (avg mid 60%s to mid 70%s)
Prof. Love's proficiency in Chemistry is noticeable, but because he's good at Chemistry, he'll start going on tangents about biology and whatnot. Make sure to study the OWL questions and practice the OWL questions since they will most likely be brought up later on. Prof. Love does not teach Chemistry, OWL does; remember that.
Do not take Dr. Love. Unless you already fully understand chemistry and don't mind being yelled at. Just avoid this class for your own sake. The TAs are sweet but Dr Love is rude, unhelpful and doesn't care. He is passionate about chemistry, but not about your learning.
Was not a fan of Dr. Love. I did do good in the class, but only because I came in with prior knowledge & spent a lot of time teaching myself. His lectures are unorganized & he goes fast claiming he will post the slides but does not for like a week. Tests were not too difficult but his lectures were so bad & I did not like the way he taught.
