Excellent!
If you have to take Philosophy, Kornegay's a good prof!
Teaches very different from what you'd expect, boring but very helpful and nice
Never met a prof who laughs so much their own jokes. Love the accent though.
Great Prof...she is easy to understand.
BORING!!!!!!!!!!

nicest prof at Ryerson

she' easy to understand, and i actually liek her jokes.
good prof.. does make nice jokes, helpful, and very nice
Unorganized but friendly. Treats the course like her own personal moral sermon.

Very sweet lady. A little unoriganized & unclear. Tendency to ramble.
laughs at the most inappropriate times when discussing moral issues
Oh so boring!!! I wanna sleep.
nicest person, little unorganized..but course was easy, and she made it fly by
you gotta love her
Knows her stuff, but doesn't exactly bring it across in the most straightforward way...o and also, very sweaty
She was GREAT. I didn't do well, but that was my own fault. Her teaching style helped me to think critically and have tight arguments. Funny and VERY intelligent, my only female prof, and definetly one of my faves.

Always goes to the very last minute of class and sometimes over! Besides that she is alright. Knows her stuff but can get boring once in a while. I would rate her 6.5/10.
If you dont do good. It's probably your own fault. She's absolutely the nicest lady. She writes backwards but you get use to it. Unfortunately sleep was an issue that overcame all lectures. My bad :$
She never wears a bra, lol! It turns me on. How old do you think she is, is she married?
She does go over the time limit of the class but that's cuz she really tries to explain the essays to everyone. Overall, she's a nice teacher, maybe a little too nice as the class can get out of hand but she will do her best to help you out.
shes really nice, but oh so boring, dropped the class
brutal marker....
Really nice, really funny, really smart.
Be careful with this ****! She'll **** you over in the end! DON'T trust her
She belittles religions and has a problem expressing herself logically. Instead she chooses to be very emotional about her opinions. She generalizes ethnic/religious groups while insulting them, yet somehow tries to preach against hatred. A pro-American.
smart, witty, sweet lady. I really enjoyed her lectures although at times can be dry. She will respect you and your opinions, and she tries to be as objective as possible. Her candidness is refreshing!
overall very good, she is passionate about the material. she is witty as well. enjoyable class to take. highly reccomend her. somewhat of a tough market, though thats a good thing
She is a pretty nice prof... but a bore. She goes pretty fast though, my hands are all over the keyboard as she talks away. The course isn't as hyped out as I thought it would be. If you get her, I say try and switch, if you can't, drop the course.

was not at all helpful
Personally, Jo seemed like a good person, but professionally a mess. The lectures were repulsive, and all over the place, and the material was not at all what I had expected. So all in all, I found the course to be a complete waste of time and money. The final paper was also incredibly detailed and exceptionally high in expectations.
First off, this course is a liberal and for a liberal course I had to do alot of work and reading. She was really clear in her teaching and is really knowledgeable. She is also very very helpful. Her final is also based on everything after the midterm. Her midterm was sort of easy. Her marking style however is very hard.
She's very nice and approachable. My favourite teacher this term!
she is very mean. not approachably. it's a liberal course and she is a very hard marker. she should not be allowed to teach in Ryerson. when you go to her before the exam, she tells you one thing and when you do it, she turns around to fail you. she doesn't mark the papers herself. i ould advise nobody to take this course. it will bring down your G

MEAN TEACHER.HARD MARKER. NOT FIT TO BE A PROFESSOR. SHE DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO TEACH. DON'T TAKE THIS COURSE. IT WILL BRING DOWN YOUR GP VERY BAD.
Oh god. she rambles and makes little sense, its hard to understand what shes trying to say and besides her random jokes that nobody laughs at its a bore. she doesnt use blackboard so you have to go to class. dont bother with her
mean teacher. hard marker. not considerate. her PA is worse. do not take this course with her, it will bring your GP down. she takes pleasure in failing students and marking them down. look for another teacher. BE WARNED!!!
Jo is not worthy to teach in Ryerson. Ryerson is a great school and should not hire teachers like JO. she is very mean, hard marker, not truthful in her dealings with student and likes to give bad grade. as for the PA, very bad follower. take this course with another teacher, but certainly not JO. Please, be careful and alert.
I can tell the few previous posts were from a single person who did bad in that class.Jo is a very nice lady and was very thorough when explaining how to approach essays. Her lecturs were decent but I dont have an interest in PHL so maybe I didnt get as much out of it as others. Overall very nice and very fair thumbs up to Jo
She is a very nice lady but an awful teacher. Never is all that clear unless she is talking about sex and doesn't seem to grasp the material herself. She also goes on bizarre tangents that are unrelated to the class altogether.
This Professor took away all my interest in this course. I had taken the PHL 306 first semester and loved it so I decided to take the continuation this semester, however, this was a bad decision on my part. Her lectures were extremely unclear and her class was very disorganized. I would not recommend taking any course with her.
I agree with most comments. You will work hard for nothing. She should not teach that course since she may judge your opinion pretending to be liberal. She is a snake!
Probably my least favourite teacher i have encountered in three years at Ryerson. If you are a student who relies on organization and structure- this prof is NOT for you. Lectures have no clear structure, very difficult to follow, and she rambles quite often. She is extremely boring- and in order to get a B or higher you have to teach yourself.
LOVED HER! all these comments are ridiculous. She makes the lectures fun and gives outlines of EXACTLY what you need to know for the exams. She is a tough marker, but most PHL profs are. I thoroughly enjoyed her class and wish I could take more. She made me open my eyes up to a lot of new things.
Loved her lectures! She made class really interesting and really went through the readings thoroughly. The course text is highly important and lectures are important for you to better understand the readings. Overall the course was really easy and only consisted of 3 things (Midterm essay, inclass essay, and final) She gave the entire outline too!
WOW. I was shocked to see all of these horrible reviews. I found Kornegay to be extremely organized and her lectures were very clear and easy to understand. She does expect a high level of thought from her students but overall I don't think she is a hard marker. She is very passionate and knowledgeable about philosophy. You can learn a lot from her
She is somewhat boring in class lectures, and does not make the material fun. I found her to be a very hard marker. I hope I never have to take her class again.
Awful prof.! She does know her subject, as all other in University. Who cares, that why they are there, but her attitude is very sneaky. She pretends to be helpful, but it`s totally fake. Very hard marker! If you care about your GPA, DO NOT take this course, she will ruin your life, especially if you second language student!
Shes got a really nice Southern twang. Easy going but intelligent, gives excellent feedback on essays really highlights what you did right or where you went wrong. I took her Ancient and Modern Ethics course, which has difficult because of the material. Fair marker where its deserves, and Hot for her age!
Kornegay teaches ethics (I'm aware she teaches other things, but I believe this to be her speciality). It is incredibly easy to see how this impacts her role as a professor. She does not refrain from deducting marks where it is deserved, but is fair with extensions and understanding of extreme circumstances. She is impartial and entirely fair.
She is a good proff, always willing to help
She's nothing special, wouldn't take her again. Course material was interesting and she's knowledgable, but there's just something off about her. Not particularly engaging, just talks at you. Heads up tho: doesn't respond to e-mails in a timely manner.
Kornegay is hilarious, truly enjoyed her class. Can go on rants and get distracted in the middle of her lecture, which is funny, but can leave your notes disorganized. All lectures spoken, no posted notes, so need to be good at taking lecture notes. Don't need to do readings because her lectures are in-depth break downs of each reading. Super funny
Love this professor. Very clear grading criteria and presents amazing lectures in philosophy
She knows her stuff but isnt clear on how she wants things done, also she is a seriously tough grader. Got 68% on midterm and she wrote excellent work???
Although her lectures could be confusing and you have to be quick to follow along to take notes, I found her engaging, funny, and very nice. I did not find her to be a hard marker and would take her again.
This was a course I thought I wouldnt enjoy; however, Kornegay made it enjoyable and engaging. Its def a course where you gotta go to class bc she breaks down the readings for you and provides tons of examples and bc of this, you don't really need to do the readings which is nice. She's very straight forward in what she wants on her evaluations.
She is just so lovely. Funny, so smart and well-spoken, very interesting and RESPECTFUL OF EVERYONE IN HER CLASS, very understanding and a very detailed marker. She is fair, the tests are fair (multiple choice are quite hard though) and seriously if you take good notes on her study questions from class lectures you dont have to study the text much
Lectures are hard to follow along. Doesn't use any visual aids, just speaks at students. A nice person but she grades extremely harshly and lectures are confusing.
I love her so much. She talks like a Tennessee Williams play. I feel very engaged in her classes, and I find her rather funny as well.
Lovely woman and great speaker. Very enthusiastic! She pays attention to detail and marks difficultly.
Gives out papers with some information on the topics at hand, except they're impossible to read or understand. Lectures are everything, as long as you go to the lectures you'll get the grade, readings aren't too important. Except, she's an awful lecturer, rambles on and you have no idea what point she's making. Gives great feedback on tests.
Sweet enough but she really makes you ride out your anxiety. Assessments (3 in total) progressively get easier and more clear. However, you only know one standing before the drop date which can lend itself to difficult circumstance. I would keep that in mind RE the course. Elsewise, rather average. Take great notes!
Talks way too much, doesn't respect or listen to students, promotes a rigidly academic, echo-chamber approach to learning. Extremely uninspiring and unrelatable content.
Really hard marker, rambles on in classes / lectures. Lectures are everything, you don't go to class the text doesn't help you much. Class average this semester was a C- after the midterm and she said she was disappointed in us students instead of reflecting on her teaching. Gives no feedback on marks until right before final exam. Don't take this.
Honestly just a really bad professor. Marks ridiculously hard on both assignments and tests and in lecture she rambles on and makes little sense. She expects you to repeat verbatim what is said in lecture and leaves little wiggle room. For a course topic that should be interesting and engaging, this class taught by her was neither.
Does not respect students' personal circumstances. I reached out to her about my anxiety (which is medically diagnosed) and how I needed extra time for an assignment and that I could provide the necessary documents, and she completely ignored my circumstance and said the extra time "wouldn't relieve much of a burden" (exact words).
The lectures are hit and miss: sometimes so interesting you can't pay attention and sometimes so repetitive you only write two sentences for notes in a 2 hour lecture. She is a nice prof if you are very interested in philosophy but she has a problem of talking over students. She is a very tough grader but gives EXCELLENT feedback. Not an easy prof!
I took introduction to philosophy under Prof. K. in 1988 - yep, 30 years ago - and I still recall what an influential and interesting lecturer she was, covering Descartes, Hume, Kant and other early thinkers, and also making things relevant to such modern issues as Native rights. Also taught me what ad hominem arguments were, and to never use them!
BEWARE. The hardest marker I've ever had hands down. She marks as if you are a Ph.D. candidate so please if you can, see if you can get another prof for this class. She doesn't give you any opportunity to talk. Also, beware the final exam. Questions are given but the level of info expected is ABSURD. Run away if you can lol.
super sweet, quirky & eccentric woman and I honestly love her personality but not her as a professor. She goes on tangents way too much, speaks over students and always goes over the time limit, and an extremely unreasonably hard marker.
Worst prof Ive ever had. Im generally an A-B student, and have never had an essay lower than 75% - until I took her class. Absolutely awful. Received a D, with feedback being too many direct quotes then too much paraphrasing in place of quotes. Shes a nice lady, but as someone else said, grades as if were PHL PhDs. Avoid at all cost. Awful.
Avoid this womans course at all costs. Never seen such ridiculously inane grading before in my life
Worst professor at Ryerson by a mile.
Roberta is very clearly a kind and well educated professor. However, in my four years at Ryerson I have never come across a harder grader than her. I attended lectures and tutorials, did readings, and still could barely manage a 70 on exams and papers despite having a 4.25 GPA! Avoid at all costs unless you want to see your GPA take a massive hit.
Awful. Just do yourself a favor and stay away. People arent exaggerating when they say shes unfair at grading. She is nice though
The hardest marker I've ever come across in university. This is my second class with her, my first being in first year and now in fourth year. I thought maybe as a first year my work wasn't very good so that warranted my low grades, but I've never received lower than an 80 on any essay since then until this class with her. Stay away.
Absolutely awful. Grades as if every student is a philosophy major. Absolutely atrocious in every single way. Ryerson should fire her and hire someone who grades fairly. Do not take if you care about your GPA.
Such a hard marker and completely unfair. She doesn't give any sort of rubric or grading scheme so she just pulls marks out of her ass. For a philosophy prof, she only wants to hear her opinions reiterated in your papers and leaves no room for individual insight. Avoid at all costs. Can't believe she hasn't been fired yet.
Sweetest professor! Gives you a very clear guide line for the midterm, exam and essay. Course and assignments are very straight-forward. Study for the midterm and exam and you'll be fine.
One of the sweetest teachers I've ever had. She is passionate about what she teaches and it really shows. She knows what she is talking about which makes the material. way easier to understand. As long as people attend the lectures and read the material, they should be fine in a class with Roberta.
A sweet and engaging lecturer, but the course has too much content (5ish readings/week, 12+ people you need to know everything about for each exam). They want a specific essay with citations from memory within 50 mins. Students either recieved a B or an F. Professors would recieve better quality work if the course was structured differently.
She is so sweet and understanding, but, the course feels unstructured. She is passionate and goes into deep detail for the lectures, but they are so dense that she often does not end up finishing all the slides by the end. There are a lot of readings each week and you need to memorize essentially each and every detail for the midterm and exam.
Had a course with her last year, how she has a 3/5 is beyond me, without a doubt the worst prof I've had. While being a tough grader is not bad, not sticking to your own teaching schedule, going on random tangents during class, and in general failing to properly prepare students for your very heavy projects is horrible.
Horrible.
She consistently goes on tangents and will allow for 0 personal input or view in class, avoid at all cost.
Never again.
I loved Jo as a prof! She's really passionate and you can tell she knows her stuff. Lots of good feedback on essays and tests that's super helpful for the exam. She gives super detailed outlines for every assignment. If you've done the readings and attended her lectures you'll do well!
Least favourite prof I've had. Goes on tangents that we don't even cover all the material. Lectures are boring and there are so many readings. Tough grader and expects us to memorize so much of the readings.. not really accessible outside of class either. Did not enjoy her at all.
Jo runs a tough course, but can be a great mentor if you stay engaged. The workload is heavy, but unstuck study proved invaluable for exam prep. Avoid this if you prioritize your GPA over learning.
