Professor Aarons is simply one of the easiest professors to understand. If you need help, she is there and smiling the whole time. She truly wants you to learn, and makes it so fun. Since this is her first review, it's fair to be skeptical, but I assure you that you will be well prepared for future classes, and have a decent grade.
Lab was easy. Just show up, do the lab reports and homework to get an A. No final, no tests, and she drops your lowest lab report grade. She is a good resource to go to if you need help understanding lecture. She is awesome.
The professor was very nice and to the point with lab. She always had a smile and was always willing to help. The class is not hard at all if you do the homework, labs, and pre labs. The lowest lab grade is dropped.
Professor Aarons Gillings is awesome. Clear, concise and very helpful! I wish she taught the theory side.
Highly recommend! This professor is always willing to help and even offers extra help when you need it. Class grades are based on prelabs, lab reports, and two quizzes. Easy A!
Really nice professor, always helpful, I wish she taught more classes, I would definitely take her again. Her exams are straightforward and not tricky. She tries to review a little before each one. I got an A+
I am taking her for lecture, horrible. Her lectures are all fumbled through and unorganized. When people ask her questions she just stares blankly responding, "i don't understand its right there" or "what don't you get" She does give reviews for test however, expect no multiple choice & hour long test for 16 questions. horrible at lecture!
Professor Aarons is AMAZING! Extremely helpful, willing to work with you and always in a good mood. She tells you what to study for the on mid term, drops your lowest lab grade, and the best part is that there is no final exam. By far, one of the coolest professors at BC! Take her, she truly is awesome!!!
Boy do I miss Professor Gillings. The fact that I gave a "3" for easiness has nothing to do with her.. it's the actual course. She moves very fast because she doesn't have a choice and 1045 is a lot. Do the wkshts on D2L and you will pass her class.. exams aren't difficult if you studied.. the final is 40% and cumulative so study from past exams
Terrible professor. Class ave. for 1st test was a 45. Gets rude when you ask questions. Skips ahead to future chapters before the test. You are on your own; she does not teach. Material for 1st test was 230 pages total. My GPA is 4.0; I know a bad teacher when I see one. I love science; looked forward to this class. Take at your own risk!
her reviews will help with the test. if you are a college student you will need to do some reading so idk why people are complaining about being lazy and not reading. study and you will do fine. get the book if you want extra help but not needed. ask her questions AFTER or BEFORE class. go to her office hours. I would most definitely take her again
Better off learning chemistry on your own, very difficult in clarity towards chapters. asking questions are sometimes answered rudely. assumes students understands chemistry although proves to be very difficult. Three tests and one final, better not fail any! Not a bad professor but shouldn't teach chemistry at a beginners level.
Took her for Chem 2 lab in the winter. This is the easiest lab professor I've had so far just be sure to do the pre-labs and lab reports every week and show up for each class.
Best teacher ever!!!!!she is willing to help you learn the material, just ask questions, go to class, study and you will succeed in the class.
Literally one of the most BEST professors ever! She explains everything so well and helps you if you have any questions. I would take her again in a heartbeat. Yall should definitely take this professor if you want to pass this class because it can be difficult.
Prof. Gillings is an amazing professor. She is always willing to help and wants you to pass. I am not the best at Chemistry, but I still passed with an 85%. 3 Exams and a final. The final is super easy as long as you study the night before. I would recommend her to anyone who is not the best at Chemistry.
An awesome, down-to-earth, funny professor. Do the prelab and lab write-ups the way she wants and be friendly, and you'll do just find. Very laid back. The class itself is much easier than anticipated. Prelabs take several hours to write out, but they're not hard. Def. easier than other profs who purposely make this class harder than necessary.
She is the best chm 1046 L prof that you will find in BC. I took her class this semester and it was the best experience ever. Sure there was work but it was stress free lab. The pre lab questions, intro and procedure is done before every lab. One midterm and two small quizzes. It was the highlight of my week. Take it. You will not regret it.
Highly recommend for lab very easy grader, but isn't easy where you don't learn. She is a good combination to have if you have a tough lecture class because its very stress free. Taking her for Lecture and Lab for Chem 2. Hopefully shes really good at lecture too.
Wants students to ask questions, but if you dare, she'll look at you sideways. Worksheets don't help much in preparation for the the three tests that determine your grade. High school background in chemistry highly recommended if you take her for 1045. Overall, a decent professor, but chemistry can't be taught in 16 weeks.
Professor Gillings is absolutely amazing. 1045 is fast pace, so she has to cram a lot of material in her lectures, but she gives examples for each concept. Take advantage of her office hours/email if you have any questions!!! She's very helpful and really wants you to grasp the material. Grade based on 3 exams and a final. Final worth 40%.
She is a good teacher I took it for my chem lab 1025 , which is an introductory class. 3 exams and she drops the lowest one. Do what you have to do in the lab and as soon as you finish you can go.! I will take her again
She is so boring that I could not pay attention. I had to teach myself. Her tests are super easy though and she'll give you points for a question as long as you attempt something. Got a 104% in the class and I studied 2 days before the exams the earliest. The class before the test she'll tell you the format and the type of q's that will be on it .
She is a really nice lady, but she will drive you crazy! She has a very monotone voice and does not like answering too much questions so pay attention! She gives reviews for the test and only 10% of the reviews will be on the test. The final is CUMULATIVE IT'S A LOT OF MATERIAL! If there's another teacher choose that one cause she made this hard.
I loved her! I took her for lab at MDC and she explained everything perfectly. My lecture professor wouldn't explain things well and she would come in and out it so simple and it would make sense. Show up to class prepared, complete the labs and this class will be a breeze. I was frustrated once with chemical equations and she helped me. Awesome!!
Professor Gillings is great! Very nice, wants you to learn and wants to help as much as possible. Chemistry is a tough/slightly boring science IMO but she makes the lecture worthwhile and understanding. Would definitely take her again.
This is not an easy class, but professor Aarons is very good. Attend the lectures and pay attention in class. She also provides practice worksheets which are key to passing her tests.
She's doesn't work on the worksheet in class and has many errors in her solutions. She's not very good at explaining at tests on things that she didn't each. She doesn't have an office schedule but you could make an appointment. Come to see her after class and ask her. Ultimately, I don't recommend her
This class was hard. The material isn't difficult but I just couldn't seem to understand her teaching. I didn't feel like I had enough time for the tests and they are very important because there is no other hw/assignments. I didn't like her way of teaching and she didn't seem to really take time to thoroughly explain. If you can, don't take.
She really does want you to pass the class and doesnt mind going over something as many times as it takes for you to get it. But the entire grade is determined by 4 exams and a final that is 40% of the grade. Make sure you really understand the practice sheet and speak up when you dont get something
If you're good at chemistry, go for it... If not like most of us... avoid!
This is the BEST professor there is! I took her for gen chem 1 and 2 and passed w/ A's. She explains everything that is difficult in the easiest way possible. If you put in effort, do the HW problems & practice them &go to class, you can pass this class w/ an A. This professor truly has a gift. She also has office hrs to help students
GOOD PROFESSOR
She believes in no stupid questions, which really helps everyone. She would have no problem explaining something to you. She usually will have a review day before each test. She will give a bit of extra credit and her tests have 110 points but they are out of 100.
Easily, one of the best Chemistry professors. She's nice and easygoing, but has no tolerance for stupidity and laziness. She likes when the class participates, so she tries making the material more understandable and relatable. She tells you exactly what's going to be on her tests and gives extra credit on all of them. Study, and you'll pass.
DO NOT BELIVE ANY OF THESE "POOR" ratings! She is the best professor EVER
BEST PROFESSOR EVER! show up to class, takes notes, if you do not understand she will stop & explain again until you get it! Tells you what is going to be on the test and gives you at least a week-two weeks in advance if future quiz/test so you can study. Super chill teacher if you can't make it to class all you have to do is email and it'll be ok!
She's amazing! She will go over any concept as many times as you want and will go in a pace that her class can handle. As long as you do the practice worksheets she sends out, you will be fine for the exams. The exams are quite easy and the final as well. She likes when students participate and ask questions throughout the lecture. No homework!
Professor Aarons is an excellent professor. Chemistry isn't an easy topic, but she manages to break down a lot of material into easily understandable ways. Don't miss class, do the hw, complete the worksheets on D2L, and study. You'll be just fine. It's not an easy "A", but she definitely makes it attainable. Lots of extra credit on exams.
Great teaching method, very patient. If you don't understand anything stop by her office ask for help.
I honestly don't know why this prof rating is so great, she is not a good teacher at all. She goes over everything so quick it is hard to grasp. She says she'll explain but when you don't understand something she will make you feel stupid and embarrass you in front of everyone. You need a good 1045 background and to teach yourself 1046 to pass.
She's not the best teacher but not the worst. Chem is hard, she understands that and truly wants you to pass, she'll even help you on tests. She gives lots of extra credit, and makes it attainable to get an A if you work and study extra hard. She assumes you have a strong CHM2045 background to build on but if not, office hours are a life saver.
If you've ever had a bad chemistry professor then you will understand how GREAT professor Aarons is! She actually really cares about her students and anyone who leaves negative reviews just isn't doing well in the class. Chemistry is hard but having a good professor like her makes it a lot easier!
I had professor Gillings for Gen Chem A and gen chem II. I have only good things to say about her: she was not boring, always willing to help, and the tests were similar to the class problems. I would expect a lot of studying to achieve a high grade. Great professor!
I would recommended you not take this professor if you actually wanted to learn chem. Im in orgo now and having a rough time because she was not a very good teacher for chem 2. Easy A but if youre furthering in chem you actually need to learn the material and we didnt do that.
Professor Aarons is one of the best teachers at BC!! She made chemistry easy to learn. If you wanna pass attend to class, do your homework, study for the tests and you will get a good grade! I highly recommend her.
She is an amazing lecturer and really cares if YOU understand. Always available through email and office and after class. Wants you rot understand. Do the mastering chemistry homework BEFORE exams they really help, I got A's in every exam from doing homework. She's funny, caring, and wants to help you succeed. 4 exams no quizzes and homework
Professor Aarons honestly has your best interest at heart. She gives a lot of practice problems that are basically the same as the questions on the test. She will even help you on tests if you ask for It. She gives lots of extra credit and does not make you feel stupid for asking questions. She's funny and makes chemistry relatable and fun.
Took this class back in Fall of 2016, can't remember if attendance was mandatory. Didn't need the book much because she taught everything you needed to know. She is a great professor and she is great at explaining things. I would definitely take this class agin. She made one of our test an in class test, which really helped.
Great professor, covers the material in a way that everybody understands and is always helping you to get an A.
I came to this class not knowing anything about chemistry and i was happy that i choose her she is easy to talk to and if you do not understand she will explain and also walk around to make sure everyone is do great... we had fun Doing the labs... Thanks again for your time and effort you gave to us!!
She is the worst , do not take her class, she expects you to know everything about chemistry and her tests are the worst , she doesn't give study guides , she teaches one thing and then the whole opposite comes out in the test. DO NOT TAKE HER IF YOU WANT TO PASS, she only helps people that are literally sniffing her ass the whole day.
I loved taking this class with professor Jo Nell Aarons Gillings, she really encourages students to study and never give up. I would have liken known her before. I recommend her millions times. great professor!!!!!! :) Test are heavy and there are some hw, but she helps students with a LOT of Xtra Credit. TAKE HER, U WONT REGRET IT !!!
She wants you to do well and pass, and you need to spend time to do it. This isn't a subject you can skip out on work and do well. The online homework is long, but it forces you to learn the material and helps for exams. She will adjust and try to help you within reason, as she actually wants you to do well. She's funny and I enjoyed her lectures.
She is so caring and will sit there and explain the material to you 100x if you need it. The course IS test heavy but she is good at lecturing and teaching. If you aren't a good test taker I recommend searching for a different professor or finding a new strategy because you may not pass. She was even understanding during the transition due to COVID
she's really nice and gives a good amount of work. The lectures were easy to learn and sometimes gives small quizzes (easy). No study guides (but sometimes test answers are in quizzes), and No textbook needed for class.
Didn't start grading labs until two weeks before the end of the semester. Feedback that was given was useless since it was too late. She was basically unreachable via email because she took more than a week to respond in some instances (meaning she couldn't answer any questions you had about the work). She may be fine for lecture stay away for lab.
Take this professor! Took his fully online lab course & it was great. The lab program is through HOL Labs- super user friendly. He's so sweet and understanding, always offering extensions to students he can help. 11 labs, 11 pre-labs (quizzes of 5-10 questions, open note & unlimited time) & 2 discussions. He was awesome, TAKE HIM!! :)
She is a very good professor overall. She understood completely our situations due to Covid. The only bad thing about this class was HOL and how much they took to deliver the lab kits so we had to do 1 month worth of homeworks in 2 weeks but she completely understood and did not pressure us at all. She even extended due dates
Absolutely love this professor. She made sure everyone understood what was expected of them. Went out of her way to create a guide for all of the labs. Truly cares for her students and wants them to succeed. You can email her for anything and she will help you. ASK QUESTIONS IN CLASS don't be shy she's a sweetheart and will explain until you get it
LOVED HER. I took her for CHM1045 and I'm currently taking her for CHM 1046, honestly, no professor like her. She's caring, lovely, her emails at the beginning of the week are what motivate me to go to school and keep on working towards my goals. She's very comprehensive, a lot of hw from aleks, but honestly she's unique.
So this class was a 6 week summer course and there was a lot of information to retain in such a short amount of time. There is a ton of homework but it is not difficult. Professor Aarons is awesome ,caring, and very understanding. She is not that accessible via email but she has zoom meetings twice a week. Take her if you want to pass CHEM!
Through circumstances, Professor Aarons became our professor for the remainder of the semester. Her transition wasn't smooth but she did a great job making chemistry fun and interesting! That's why I am so grateful to have taken her. She taught me something that I was worried I would fail. Best science professor I've taken at BC!
Professor Gillings was such a blessing , shes very caring . The class was only difficult, because of the short period of time. The work was fairly easy, but it was a lot. I would definitely take the class again.
I did the online version of this course, she was very helpful. If you let her know what you need advice she is very understanding. I would take her class again.
She is amazing! No professor like her. She somehow made chemistry fun and easy. I was not stressed or had anxiety about any test or quiz, because she makes sure you understand the material before taking the exam. Amazing woman!
I had Professor Aarons completely online for her lab class. We had to purchase a lab kit and just do the labs at home. Other than that, she is very sweet, caring and the class was manageable. She was also pretty lenient when it came to due dates. Only thing was, we had to wait until the last week to know our grade. But, her class was pretty chill.
Professor Aarons is heaven sent. She is very caring and understanding. She understands that the Chemistry labs are long and difficult so she extends due date when asked. Do yourself a favor and take her course!
Really incredible and caring teacher! I would take her again in a heartbeat. She even helped me with work for my Chem lecture class even though she was only the lab teacher. She is kind and inspiring. She reinforced self-care. She was understanding of the lab kits coming in late.
Very kind teacher. Knows her stuff and makes it fun. Her lectures are amazing and she is very funny. She makes PowerPoints that will make you laugh. She knows this is a tough course and she does everything in her power to support her students. She GENUINELY CARES ABOUT HER STUDENT. I cannot say anything bad about professor Aarons-Gillings!
She is by FAR the best professor I have ever taken for anything. She helped us along the way with extra points, and made every single class clear. If you think this class is hard she will make it seem like a breeze. Take her, I promise you will NOT regret it.
Class consists mostly of Knewton assignments and was online. I would never take an online chem class but her class was amazing and I also did a 6 week course. Great teacher all around!!!
Very easy. If you apply yourself and stay on top of coursework there is no way to receive anything lower than an A or B. Two exams are proctored and the other 3 are not. You receive an A for knewton assignments if you complete them by the deadline: two written assignments and 2 discussion posts. She is very sweet and understanding love her!!
DO NOT take this professor! She is horrible with responding to emails and gives no help when it comes to the class. She doesn't grade things on time and she actually ghosted our class for the last 2 weeks of the semester so we had no guidance on what to prepare for on our final. Didn't start putting in grades until the last day before grades closed
Doesn't care about her students. Disappeared on us for the end of the semester and did not care about our grades.
Nearly lost my sanity in this class, just do yourself a favor and choose another professor.
Does not grade assignments until last minute
Has no regard for her students
You could not pay me to take this class again. Not worth all of the stress.
Ignored me and my classmates for the last half of the semester.
L teacher for not caring
During Jan-April 2023 semester, she was unavailable for over half of the semester for the CHM1045/L. I only got an A because I am a big self-studier. She claims she was not like this before and her circumstance led to unavailability which I understand but that does not dismiss the fact that her absence led to frustration during the course. Beware.
I chose this Professor for CHM1045L lab because of her previous good reviews. Boy, was I wrong for doing so! She graded the first few labs only in the beginning of the semester, then disappeared for the second half of the semester, then graded a bunch of things last minute right at the end. We had no guidance as to what how to study for final.
I hated the way the assignments were set up as they were adaptive quizzing, making it very difficult to actually learn anything without getting 10 questions that you have no knowledge on wrong first. Very difficult to get a hold of her, but otherwise she is fair.
At first, I was hesitant about enrolling in this class, but the positive reviews ultimately convinced me to give it a try. To my delight, I received an A and found the professor very flexible. Additionally, the majority of the class earned As and Bs.
For an online class, Professor Aarons was very easy to talk to, she not only helps with her class but is also available to answer questions regarding Chem lecture, she does a Zoom meeting every week for 30 minutes or more to answer all the questions and help students. She is very flexible and gives excellent feedback.
Best chem professor I have ever had
TAKE HER! i went into chem 2 without learning a thing from chem , she made all the difference. I had to spend a couple hours each week and study for this class. there isn't hw that i remember but 1-2 quizzes every week and 3-4 tests. She is so passionate about what she teaches and is always willing to reexplain the problem bc chem is a hard sub.
