If you have the opportunity to have Joab as a professor, don't pass on him. BEST professor i've ever had. He wants all of his students to succeed & will always give many chances where you can raise your grade. No hwk, 2 midterms & a final. He also offers reviews sessions before each exam & they're extremely helpful. Overall, he's a blessing.
Best economics professor at UCR. He teaches the subject very well to the point you don't have to show up for discussion. His class consists of 2 midterms, Tophat, and a final. Easy class if you put all your effort.
Joab's a great professor who was honestly the only professor who actually got me excited going to class. The class was really easy and the way he taught kept me interested the whole way through. If you see him teaching a class, definitely free up your schedule to take anything he's teaching.
His graphs came in handy for 105B and he teaches very well. The exams are not that hard. Consist of multiple choice and short answer questions. He provides a study guide and is willing to help on homework and other things that are not clear. It is not hard to get an A in his class. I used study guide to prepare myself for the exams and I got an A.
awesome guy! take his class you will thank yourself
Joab is an amazing professor and truly wants all of his students to succeed! His lectures are very easy to follow and he explains topics very thoroughly. He is the best professor I've ever had and if you have the chance to take his class, do it! 2 midterms and 1 final as well as review sessions before each exam!
the best ucr professor ever.
Honestly, the best lecturer I've had a UCR. His real life examples are relatable and stick in your memory. He gives his students every opportunity to succeed with many opportunities for EC as well as extra review sessions before each exam. This class however is not an easy A, but as long as you take notes in class, it is impossible to fail.
Joab makes it easier to understand the material by proving plenty of examples. Attendance does matter because you get Top Hat questions, and attending discussion activities also count at least in the beginning. He really cares for his students and has multiple review sessions before each exam!
Joab is a professor who actually cares about his students and what they're learning. He likes to collect feedback from students to help improve his class. I wish I tried a lot harder , but the final replaces the lowest midterm and he gives lots of extra credit opportunities. Definitely recommend!
Joab is one of the best teachers I've had, very enthusiastic and passionate about the course and he will not disappoint. He explains things in very simple terms so everyone can understand and it makes econ so much more interesting!
Clearly loves teaching and economics. Makes every lecture very easy to sit through by making it fun. Also easy to talk to and can answer questions anytime. Amazing person and Professor.
Best teacher hands down taken for Micro and Macro. Makes lectures as engaging as possible and has an extremely clear layout of the subject. The way he lays out his midterms and final are great, replaces your lower midterm grade if you get a higher score on the final. It bumped me up at least 12% (with an A on the final, which was fine if you study)
One of the greatest Econ professors at this campus. Really enthusiastic and passionate about Econ.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER!
Awesome professor. Makes material easy to understand. Only 2 homework assignments with 5 questions but only need to do 4. Midterm & cumulative final are free response, but you dont need to buy a blue book. He provided the lined paper. Essay topic is your choice & not heavily graded. There is attendance questions but you are allowed to miss 3.
Joab is very clear about what he expects from students. He makes himself very available outside of class for students to ask questions related to the class. Lectures are very interesting and he always has a lot of examples and stories that help understand the material better.
Such a good teacher. He is able to relate Econ to his life in a funny manner. Amazing teacher.
Joab is a GOD! He is the best professor at UCR, especially in the Econ department. He cares if you understand and is available during office hours. He hosts review sessions before midterms and final exams. The exams are straightforward if you attend the lecture. He made economics fun and interesting.
So far this has been my favorite class at UCR. Joab is an amazing professor. He works really hard to ensure that every student gains a proper understanding of the course content. The examples he uses are really fun to hear and make the course extremely engaging. He encourages success with review presentations, extra credit opportunities, and more.
SOO MUCH EXTRA CREDIT! It is really hard not to pass this class, he gives extra credit wherever you look. Just make sure you know your stuff and you should be fine!!
The best professor I've had at UCR so far. He is super passionate and goes out of his way to help students.
Professor Joab Corey is one of the best teachers ever! He is so enthusiastic about the material and is such a great teacher! He is extremely nice and very approachable.
Dr. Corey is not only really passionate about his subject, but he knows extensively about it as well. He gives amazing lectures, and takes different approaches towards teaching the subject to make sure you understand it. For example, he often has in-class activities, videos, and of course his West Virginia stories lel. Highly recommend him!
Professor Joab is the best professor I've had as of yet. He truly cares about his students based on how his office hours are very flexible. He's very knowledgable and passionate when it comes to economics, and he offers a lot of extra credit. The best thing about him is that he drops your lowest midterm if you do really well on the final.
As long as you study and put effort into his class, attaining an A is very possible! His lectures are always interesting, and he explains concepts in a very understandable way. Your lowest midterm gets dropped and replaced with the score from your final if you scored higher on the final!
Great professor! Makes learning easy and fun. He uses many personal examples to teach, they're interesting. As a plus, he's hot and buff
Easily the best professor I've had at UCR. Very enthusiastic to teach the economic material. The book is not necessary because he goes over it in lecture. Go to lecture, take notes, and get the Top Hat questions right. Gives tons of extra credit to make it easier for each student to pass. Average grades of tests were consistently As
One of the BEST professors here at UCR, he's super fun and interacts with the class to help make the subject more interesting. You can clearly tell he has a good time teaching and it's just an overall great class. Midterms and finals are based exactly off of the notes so just make sure to take good notes and you should be fine!
I honestly don't like the way the professor teaches. He refers to his previous the intro econ every time he lectures. As a first time taking this class for breath, kind of makes me feel like i need to know about econ prior to taking Econ2. He's claims to "help" you but can't even be responsive to emails. Off topic examples are extremely annoying
my favorite teacher at UCR by far! He makes the class fun and engages w students. Super helpful in class examples and does give out extra credit. He posts everything online and tests are relatively easy as long as you review material. Attendance not mandatory but it's very helpful and recommended. Wish I had more classes with him!
He really cares about teaching and wants you to get an A in his class. He provides great examples in class that help with the exams and has plenty of review sessions and office hours for you to understand the material. Overall, he's a great professor and really just wants his students to understand the material.
I really wish he taught all the econ classes or at least to have more classes with him. He is the GOAT of econ and such a nice person. Review sessions and exams are straightforward. He's super caring and wants to help you. 100% the best.
I am not exaggerating when I state that Joab is the best instructor I ever had. He promptly posts all the materials you need to achieve a good grade. He takes all student feedback seriously to improve his class. I was always looking forward to his entertaining lectures. Go to his office hours to get to know him better. I hope Joab never leaves UCR.
Joab is very enthusiastic about teaching econ and this is seen in his lectures. He cares about his students and goes out of his way to make sure everyone has a chance to get a good grade. Lectures are important because he explains examples pertaining to the concepts. Exams aren't too difficult as long as you understand and study the material.
Professor Joab Corey is my favorite professor of UCR so far. I had him for ECON 003 and ECON 002. He posts lecture slides and practice questions online. He has online quizzes and recently he made discussion online. He has a lot of extra credit assignments. He makes everything understandable. 1 final and 2 midterms. Have to be in class for Tophat.
His class does not take attendance, because "absence" is impossible to happen in his class at all. In fact, the main problem for his class is how to find a seat, or even a space to stand. I'm sure that he will be the teacher for a lot of future Nobel Prize winners, because without "perfection", you could not find any other word to describe him.
Joab is the sweetest professor I've ever had. He genuinely wants his students to succeed. He made econ fun and interesting and makes sure thatyou understand all topics. He is clear and deserves the world.
I heard great things about Joab from a few of my friends. Fast forward, I am a third year and enrolled in his world history econ course and it's been amazing so far. His lectures are so interesting. He's an amazing teacher who only wants to see his students succeed. Everything he assigns will help you tremendously. It's an easy class, I love it
Amazing professor. I'm so glad I got to take him, even though I dislike all things economics. He makes things pretty easy to understand and gives so many funny stories and anecdotes. You won't regret taking Joab.
Joab is an absolutely caring professor. He is very fair and reasonable with much of the tests and quizzes that he gives. Its not very hard to get an A in his class. Just put in some effort and youll definitely get an A. He even offers a good amount of in-class and test question extra credit. Overall, good choice for a professor.
He's a really good professor. He's really enthusiastic about the subject which makes lectures more interesting. Definitely go to class because attendance is taken through TopHat which will help your grade a lot. He also offers a good amount of extra credit for homework and in class.
Great professor. It's obvious that his goal is to give students a deep understanding of the material.
I wish all professors were as enthusiastic about their job as Joab was, simply attend his lectures rewrite his notes when you get home and you are guaranteed an A in the class. I attended every single lecture this quarter and I am so grateful for him because not once did I fall asleep. Joab goes out of his way to help you and he's all around great!
Joab is probably one of the most caring professors I have had. He listens to students concerns and gives ALOT of extra credit. Im not going to say it was an easy A because I did have to study, but he makes the class so much fun and is a GREAT teacher. The class is graded fairly and I would highly recommend him.
Hands down the place's best professor. Its harder to fail his class the way he teaches than to pass it. If you have the choice to take his class and don't i'm sorry but there's something seriously wrong with you. He available, goes out of his way for his students, energetic, and HILARIOUS
This is an easy A class in the sense that he offers A TON of EC. there are some clicker questions but they are pretty easy. To get an A in the class without studying outside of class, you must go to class and pay attention. And it isn't that hard because he is so entertaining. He also replaces the lowest midterm with the final.
Joab was a great professor; while I rarely went to lectures, when I did it was enjoyable and he was very engaging; emails after every lecture and updates entire class on what was done in class, makes discussion points available online after a few weeks, provides easy EC, provides multiple midterm/final review sessions. Easy A with some effort
Joab is one of the best professors I've ever had. He gives you a ton of easy extra credit that really helps with your final grade. His class is not hard, but you do need to work in order to get the grade that you want. He gives lots of practice problems and practice exams. Review sessions really help. Amazing instructor.
Never again will I forget West Virginia in the 50 states game. This guy is hilarious. When people thoroughly enjoy what they are doing, you can tell. He puts a lot of thought into his teaching method to make it an accessible (and memorable) learning experience for everyone.
I love Joab, his lectures are very easy to understand because he uses real life examples. His tests are easy and his grading is fair. It's an easy A, really recommend him!!! btw it's 2 midterms and final is cumulative
The easiest class I have ever taken. TONS of extra credit. Review sessions before each midterm. All discussions are online. Tests are all easy and straightforward, you should get an A if you studied a little bit. Even if you didn't you still probably will do fine as long as you showed up to class at least most of the time.
Joab cares a lot about students' experience and makes sure that nothing on assignments or tests are a surprise. The material requires effort, but it isn't impossible. His lectures are engaging and informational. Also super hot and funny.
One of the best professors I've ever had. He gives students every possible chance to do well in the course such as extra credit, extra credit quizzes, replacement of a midterm exam score if you score a higher grade on the final, and he's very accessible outside the classroom. Macroecon wasn't easy, but he made it so much easier for me.
Best professor I've ever had! Hilarious, inspirational, and super engaging. Also really accessible outside of class. I wish every professor was like Joab!
I am an international student. I took his Econ 003 and 002 and they were the most interesting lectures ever I took in the US! He gave us lots of opportunities for extra credit and pretty easy to get good grade if you did all of them.
Had him for 2 classes and honestly, he's not like other professors. He makes sure everyone understands the material before switching slides, gives an abundance of opportunity for extra credit, and even made attending discussion sections optional. Micro-econ was more entertaining but nonetheless, Joab did a great job at teaching it.
Joab is genuinely one of the best professors on campus. He gives TONS of extra credit and is very accessible for any help you may need. Attendance is necessary because he does PollEverywhere. The first exam is very easy, the second is much harder. Don't stop paying attention after the first exam (but you'll still pass because of his extra credit)
A genuinely amazing class! So many extra credit opportunities, funny but informative lectures, and tests are not at all difficult, but do require some kind of studying. He also only makes 6 of 10 discussion sections mandatory and after that you no longer have to attend them. Overall, it's almost impossible not to pass this class.
This guy is simply awesome. Lots of ec opportunities, grades the class in a way that makes it clear he REALLY wants you to do super well. Lectures are very well organized and interesting. He gives lots of funny anecdotes. Wish all my professors were like this guy. This class was an easy A, AND I learned a lot, which can't be said for most classes.
Professor Corey is probably the best professor i've had so far. He gives so many extra credit opportunities. He didn't make attending discussions mandatory as long as you submitted the work online. He makes lecture really interesting and I would def recommend taking one of his classes.
Expect to be engaged during Professor Coreys lectures; he keeps the class entertained with his West Virginia stories and his enthusiasm for Econ. Exams arent difficult, and he drops your lowest midterm! Put in some effort to study, do extra credit activities and youre good.
Joab was a really good lecturer. Material was very easy to understand and discussion made sure you did. Getting a good grade was very easy. I slept in class all the time and didn't pay attention in discusion. Joab made us use Poll Everywhere for participation and you only need 70%. 2 MC Midterms and a MC final. I got a 103.4% in the class.
Ill never forget this professor! He makes sure students understand the material before going through slides and always provides the funniest stories and jokes. Higher grade on the final replaces a bad score on your midterms! Uses PollEverywhere so attendance is mandatory for that. Was overall a super fun class!
This course was generally a relaxed course. Joab teaches economics in a way that is easy to comprehend. Uses personal examples and tries hard to engage students. First midterm was easy- mainly concept based, second midterm deals with a lot of graphs. Higher grade on the final will replace lowest midterm grade. Does use PollEverywhere.
Joab does the absolute most to accommodate for students and help them succeed. That said, if you don't pass this course it was for a lack of effort on your behalf.
Joabs the best! His lectures are informative yet fun and interesting. He posts his slides online, so you can just listen and take notes on what he says. Tests are pretty easy, based on the material on the slides. Attendance problems every lecture for participation/attendance points.
Joab is by far one of the best professors I'll ever have at UCR! He gives a ton of extra credit opportunities! He sends out email reminders for deadlines, keeps you updated with the class progress, and is always working to improve the class! Lectures are super fun so don't skip! He's really engaging and enthusiastic about Econ. No excuse to fail!
His lectures were very clear (and often entertaining), but whenever I need clarification, his office hours were very helpful. I wouldn't recommend skipping his lectures, since they're good and he offers a lot of extra credit during class, but he doesn't take attendance. He gave lax online quizzes and the choice to do discussion sec online, instead.
Joab's a professor you would want to have he strives for the excellence of his students and is very passionate about the subject. Discussion is optional as you would have an online quiz instead.
Professor Joab is THE BEST professor you will ever have at UCR. His lectures are amazing and he tells a lot of personal stories to make it easier to understand. The activities he does in class are also so fun and engaging. His tests are pretty easy as long as you do a bit of studying. Econ was definitely my favorite class with Joab.
His lectures are amazing. The stories he tells are so funny and they're actually related to the topic and not some useless tangent. Attendance is technically not mandatory because he posts slides online, but I advise you to go because his lectures, stories, and games are 100% worth it.
Great professor! His lectures are very entertaining! He makes learning economics very entertaining, especially with his stories of West Virginia haha. I guarantee you that as long as you pay attention and take good notes, you'll pass his class with an A or B.
Took both Econ002&003 (Econ2 was during Spring 2020) Amazing professor, amazing lectures! He is funny and goes at a slow pace for students to make sure they understand. All materials are basically in the slides. Lots of EC opportunities and reasonable grader. He did an exceptional job at transitioning online and making it fair for students :)
Solid choice as a professor, definitely cares about students passing. He's grading is super chill and overall one of the best econ classes I've taken were with him. As long as you pay attention to the lectures, you'll pass.
SUCH good lectures at such a short notice! Super clear, informative, & organized. He cares about his students and the material. You have to work for extra credit, but its worth it. You need to read or watch lectures to pass. For honors, theres an extra book project and 4 essays (easy grading!). Midterms were ok. Office hours + review were helpful.
Best professor I have ever had. His lectures are amazing. He is caring and really wants to help students with extra credit opportunities. If I put in a bit of more effort I would have easily gotten an A but other classes got in the way. 10/10 recommend.
This class was a little bit harder than Micro but the professor made the lectures as easy to understand as possible. He cares about his students doing good and provides so many opportunities for you to retake almost everything. Definitely one of the best I've had so far.
Joab is an amazing professor. I took him for both micro and macro, with micro being in person and macro being online during Fall quarter in quarantine. Despite being online, Joab still kept the same enthusiasm and care for his students and the class, so you can be sure he will be amazing regardless of the format. Truly the benchmark for professors.
Joab is hands down one of the best professors I have ever had. His tests are easy because he prepares you for it. His lectures are so entertaining because he tries to teach concepts through stories he tells which makes those concepts easy to understand. He tries his best to accommodate all his students' needs, even if it means changing class policy
Had him during Winter and also Spring. Spring was online which was disappointing because his in-person lectures are amazing and helpful. Although it was online, Joab still excelled in being an excellent professor and preparing his students for his exams through synchronized office hours. One of the best professors at UCR. Makes Economics fun!
No doubt, a great choice. Very little hw per week. Lectures are very easy to understand with examples. Textbook definition of a great class taught by a great professor. Got a 105%
Joab is an amazing economics professor. I had him for Econ002 and Econ003, before and after covid. His fast adaptation to the digital environment made his classes seamless, and every single lecture is easy to understand. His teaching style and accessibility allows students to learn and get invested easily. Would take again 100%
Great professor. He has made what I thought was boring, actually so interesting. They way he teaches, rly makes you understand the concept. He welcomes all questions and encourages students to come to office hours. I love doing his modules as you can complete them throughout the week. Would take again if my major needed more econ
Joab is the best professor I have ever had and I am thankful for professors like him who put all their efforts into his class and truly cares about the success of their students. Even during COVID/online classes, his class is interesting and fun
Best professor ever! Took him for Econ002 and Econ003 and pass both with an A+! He really cares for his students and is always being very flexible and understanding
Great Professor, requires 5 essays; 4 two page and 1 book project (5pgs).
This was an asynchronous class and was the best I have ever taken. Weekly module quizzes due at the end of the week and you could watch recorded lectures whenever you wanted to. He was very understanding and offered extra credit. I took an Econ class during high school but this professor explained everything so much better.
Joab is such a great professor! Class was asynchronous. He gives lots of opportunities to earn a few extra credit points here and there. He offered us different resources to help us succeed in his class! Overall, a great Professor!
He was the best professor! Lectures and discussions were recorded and asynchronous. Modules were due on Sunday so you could watch and complete them anytime you liked. He relates info to funny movies and scenarios, and makes it SUPER easy to understand. Honestly, he really enjoys the material and you could tell in his teaching. HIGHLY recommend!!
Best professor I have had. You can tell that he really is enthusiastic about the material which makes learning 100% better. Make sure to take good notes and if you study them you will do great on the exams.
Honestly probably the best professor I've had at Ucr. Weekly modules are easy to follow and due every Sunday. Offers chances for extra credit. Great lectures and discussion videos, take notes and study and you'll get a good grade!
One of the best professors I've ever had the pleasure of learning from. His weekly modules were clear and organized, the material was fairly straight-forward, and he made learning Econ a lot more enjoyable than I expected it to be. Highly recommended.
Super nice bc of Covid. Final replaces ur lowest midterm and gives extra credit. Everything is online and there is no lecture. Just watch the review section videos for each chapter b4 the test and u should be good.
It was such a pleasure taking this class. I now have a great understanding of the material and it honestly required little effort. His lectures are so clear and concise, you really don't have to put in any extra effort. There are many extra credit opportunities so it's very hard to fail this class. Such an amazing professor!
If you've never had him, let me tell you he's really that GOOD a prof. A hilarious and relatable guy that is very articulate in the way he teaches. Makes the subject easy to learn.
The best professor, Ive had my while freshmen quarter. Great at teaching microeconomics, and he made sure to explain everything carefully. Would definitely recommend to anyone because I enjoyed being in this. Unfortunately, hes not teaching Econ 002 spring quarter, but I sure loved having him for Econ 003.
Very chill professor. Clearly cares a lot about his students. Easy A. Just two midterms, a final, and super easy weekly assignments. Very knowledgeable and approachable. I really liked Dr. Corey and would totally take him again for economics if needed.
He implements the material extremely well and is a really good Econ teacher. He made it easy and taught really well. I don't regret taking this class. If ever confused go to office hours as he is always there to help. Although everything was online he seemed like a really genuine guy.
Joab is the best! He made microeconomics really easy to learn and understandable. He does a great job providing examples that actually make sense and are easy to remember and connect to the material. Joab loves teaching the class which makes it a lot more bearable and clear. Definitely take this class with Joab!
Joab was an amazing professor who kept me engaged throughout his asynchronous lectures. Everything was manageable and easy to understand, and he made sure his students never felt overwhelmed or confused. It was the best class I took last quarter!
He is super chill and makes the class enjoyable and fun
He is a great professor. His class is not hard. Also, his lectures are pre-recorded, so he mainly uses zoom for questions during his official class time.
Professor Corey is the GOAT. His lectures are super clear. 2 assignments, 1 midterm, 1 final, 1 research paper, and weekly little quizzes to test your understanding of the lecture (2 chances). Assignments are really helpful for midterm and final. As long as you watch the lectures, there is no way that you can fail the class.
joab was a wonderful professor. he really tries his best to make his students understand the material. i didn't really try because i hate the subject and i got a B+. Put some effort into it and you should be fine.
This professor is one of the best professor's I've had. He's incredibly clear with his material and creates a study guide for the midterm. He does a review video for the exams as well. Don't be deterred by the weekly thought provoking assignments, they're super easy and straight out of the lecture material. Easy A!
Organized and easy-to-understand lectures and modules provided
Gave us multiple chances for module quizzes, funny jokes, and gives us plenty of chances to succeed. Honestly, if you fail this class I don't understand you, he gives you every chance. He responds to emails fairly quickly.
Best teacher ever, makes the class hybrid, you can take the class fully online or go to class in person. His teaching is clear and easy to comprehend.
Professor was very good at delivering the material without making it boring and found ways to simplify concepts so we can understand it better. He has in class demonstrations of topics that made it a bit more fun and breaks up the lecture. He also has extra credit, so if you don't perform well there is a cushion!
This professor has honestly got to be the nicest one ive ever had.!!! Really lenient and caring!!
Great at teaching, made lectures entertaining & super manageable to pass with a good grade. Offers extra credit opportunities & office hours help. He seems very genuine & you can tell he loves what he does as it reflects in his lectures. Quizzes were simple & midterms/final were not bad at all if you watched the lecture videos.
Very organized. Textbook was optional, but not required. Whenever he couldn't make it to office hours, he would schedule new times to be fair. Weekly discussion session activities (2 attempts) and module quizzes (3 attempts). Many extra credit opportunities. Lowest midterm gets dropped if you do better on the final. Easy A. Take him if you can!
Great class, great professor. He had all of his material recorded so students could choose to take the class asynchronously if they chose.
Amazing teacher and recommend him to any student smart or not. He will teach you from the ground up and gives all the opportunities to ask questions. Take this man as your teacher
He gives a lot of extra help and is super clear about deadlines and homework. There's a lot of extra credit and lectures are already easy enough to remember. There's really no reason to not get an A.
Straightforward class show up take notes during lecture and if you pay attention during the lecture you'll do fine on the test.
I joined week 4 and still got an A+. You can tell he loves teaching and evenjhough attendance isn't mandatory I loved attending his lectures. If you watch the lectures and pay attention you'll pass the tests.
Love this dude! I hate economics but his lectures actually made it kinda fun and interesting to learn! Everything was online for me although he offered in person lectures. Test and quizzes are very fair, if you study you'll do great. He's super nice too and enthusiastic about the course which is always nice. Definitely recommend him!
I love this Professor. His lecture is pretty clear. And his grading is really fair.
Probably one of my fav profs. He makes lectures interesting & very flexible (hybrid option). Gives extra credit opportunities, super caring/nice, & provides a very clear layout of the course ahead of time. Assignments are not bad or time consuming at all. Online quizzes (open note/resources), & online exams.
Professor Joab was very kind and offered a hybrid option during the spring quarter which made me like him even more. Through his videos, he was very kind and laid out the information simply. He offered extra credit and would drop the lowest midterm and multiple of his weekly quizzes. A very understanding professor.
I loved professor corey's class. He is an awesome teacher who listens to his student and takes actions on the feedback received. He gives extra credit on his exams and quizzes too.
Everything is v organized on canvas w/ the modules. His lectures are broken down into 4-6 ~20-30 min videos per module. Has a list of what assignments are optional/required. Very clear on what he wants from you. Seems very friendly. Content is easy to grasp after completing his practice resources. Lots of EC! 2 midterms + 1 final (summer). V DOABLE
Honestly the best professor on campus hands down. Super chill, funny, and down to earth. If you manage to fail his class idk what to say to you man. I actually retain the information I learn in his class. Maybe not forever, but I retain it long enough to take the final.
As you can tell by all the other reviews, Prof. Corey is the best. He has very lenient grading criteria which makes it easy for any student to pass his class if you put in even a little effort which is all he asks for. Most people take this to complete a breadth requirement and he takes that into account so this class will never take up much time.
the course is fast paced
He's an amazing professor who is good at explaining the material and provides support to those that dont understand it. If he could be my teacher for all my courses would not complain.
My favorite professor from my first quarter at UCR. As long as you are semi-intelligent, go to class, and do the extra credit you will at least get a B. This is still not a very easy class because exams are not open book.
This course is able to be taken completely asynchronously, but myself and hundreds of others chose to come to lecture every week because he makes it so fun and engaging.
Arguably the best professor at UCR. Really loved his connection with students and how he tries to make the class more engaging. Lectures are easy to understand and quite entertaining at some days. You can also attend lectures asynchronously, but I think you're missing out if you're not attending lectures in-person. It's honestly a lot better.
Awesome professor. His lectures are very engaging considering how big the class is. Easy to understand the concepts he teaches since he knows how to keep his lessons fun and insightful. Class is asynchronous but I definitely recommend going in person!!!
Definitely recommend taking his courses. He is very passionate about his teachings, makes lectures interesting, and gives extra credit opportunities. Weekly quizzes and short discussion quizzes for homework but nothing too heavy.
Amazing professor! Corey truly cares about teaching and his students. He is very laidback with grading and gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. I like how you can either sit down in lecture or sit back in your home and do the class online. Great lectures! His stories of West Virginia are super entertaining. To finish this: Take him!
I had professor Corey first quarter at UCR, he is honestly my favorite professor. His lecture and notes are so well organized and easy to follow. Homework wise is not much, as long as you pay attention to his lecture or watch his recordings you are basically set for a A-.
He posted everything online so I didn't attend class in-person even one day. His online lectures were super easy to understand and loved his examples. test and quizzes were easy if you had watched, or even skimmed through the lectures. amazing professor and a great class to take if you need a GPA boost and credits
Ask any econ student at UCR who their favorite professor is, they'll say Joab. Took his class during COVID, he uploaded videos of his lectures. Clear and concise, super easy to follow, and very interesting. The exams are the same questions from the homework, so there are no surprises. Best professor ever
AMAZING! Take his class, any class from him, he's genuinely so funny and wants everyone to pass.
Very respectable professor! He's a powerful orator able to clearly and concisely convey ideas and projects well. A bit of a goofy critter too, does things like throwing dollar bills at the crowd and banana eating contests; even though the class is perfectly accessible online, definitely check out his live lectures, I regret missing some of them.
Hands down the best professor at ucr. You can either show up to the lectures or watch them online. He does not give busy work. weekly quizzes but you get 3 chances and your highest score will be the one graded. You can honestly put in minimum effort and get an A- at least. Probably the best prof at ucr.
I like his class so much!
such a fun guy, would definitley recomment. Best prof ive ever had !
He is a good professor and you can actually learn and participate in his class. Attendance is not required but you should go to class often.
AMAZING! Is kind, approachable, and clear. Gives lots of extra credit opportunities, is straightforward when teaching the material, and test questions are based on material learned in lectures. You can choose to attend in person which is very nice or watch his pre-recorded lectures.
This professor is unreal, in such a good way. He understands the material well, makes you not dread lectures or tests by making them super simple, and if you get a good enough grade you can get a letter of rec from him.
One of the easiest and chillest professors i have taken. participation not mandatory, everything is online, which includes slides, lecture videos, discussion sections, assignments, quizzes, exams. you get extra credit on almost everything, should be pretty hard to fail this class. average scores on exams are like 85% very easy class
This class can be taken synchronously or asynchronously. Attendance does not count toward your grade. The recorded lectures are clear and concise. A study guide is given for exams. And the professor usually clarifies any doubts posted on discord. I Would 100% recommend taking this class.
amazing professor! classes can be taken in person or asycnh! really clear with his guidelines and checks up on students' well-being throughout the course. def recommend
I took Joab for ECON 003 I will tell you he's the best professor! I did not attend a single class and still passed with an A because he offers his material through Canvas. I highly recommend this class, you won't regret it!!
This class is fairly easy because of all the extra credit he offers, he also replaces the lowest two midterm scores if your final score is better than the two. There are weekly quiz/discussion quizzes but those fairly easy. The class can be taken online or in person, whichever one you prefer
One of the more flexible classes I've taken as lectures aren't mandatory as he posts reviews online and discussions aren't mandatory. As long as you complete all assignments, watch or attend lecture, and just study for the exams, then it should be an easy A class.
Great professor and easy class! Class is a hybrid format: live in-person lectures or pre-recorded Zoom lectures. 2 weekly homework assignments but easy and multiple attempts available. 2 midterms and final, all online. Highly recommend!
Hands down the best person at UCR. Many opportunities to earn EC, easy-to-follow criteria, plus a hybrid option. Very caring for students
Professor Corey is one of the best professors I have had at UCR. He is funny, really cares about his students learning, and explains everything very clearly. He also sends weekly reminder emails which I appreciated so much. His class can be taken completely asynchronously. I heavily recommend watching the videos over just looking at the slides.
Joab is one of the best econ teachers at UCR.He makes everything available on canvas so you can take everything online if you needed to. He really cares for his students and is very interactive. As long as you pay attention you will pass, don't worry. Tests are all online, discussion isn't mandatory, and he will always help you during student hours
i took macro econ in hs and this was basically that class in 10 weeks. he allows u to take the class asynchronously so it is very accessible. he also provides lots of extra credit and replaces your lowest midterm with the score on your final if its higher allowing you to miss one. tbh u have to mess up to fail this class
Gave great lectures, class was a little more difficult than expected, with problem sets graded on small stuff.
I did, in fact end up taking Corey again, as I had him for boy Micro and Macro, I did poorly in Macro but that fault is entirely my own, Joab does his best making sure the class is as fair as possible. If you put the bare minimum effort into any of his classes you will get an A, just make sure you do the weekly HW assignments!
Professor Joab is an amazing lecturer, attendance is mandatory for points but he also offers an option to watch lecture videos. The lecture videos help a lot to review content you had missed in class and he also provides review material to study for exams. He is fair with grading and gives opportunities to bring your grade up again.
Great professor! Had him for both econ002 and 003. Lectures and discussions are both optional because he has made pre recorded lecture videos. There are quizzes and discussion quizzes every chapter. 2 midterms and 1 final all online. Loads of extra credit opportunities with assignments and PollEV questions if you attend class.
Professor Corey is the best professor at UCR. It is optional to attend lecture. It is easy to pass the class with an A. He gave us a lot of extra credit and gave us second chances on homework if we scored badly on them. I recommend taking his class is you want an A. I would love to take Professor Corey for another class in the future.
GOATED PROFESSOR NO COMPLAINTS EVERYTHING ABOUT HIM IS AMAZING I LOVE YOU JOAB
Very flexible and takes feedback from students so the course very rarely feels like a burden. His lectures are amusing and he finds the most surprising ways to entertain the class. Various points for extra credit throughout the course and other opportunities to get your grade up.
Joab is the BEST. His class is set up so that attending lectures and discussion is mandatory. you never have to step foot in a class with him. he is great and explains everything very clearly. If you have the opportunity, TAKE HIS CLASS
Professor Corey is the best professor I've had at UCR. He is so accommodating and helpful, especially during the fast-paced asynchronous course. Lectures are all recorded and the way he teaches helps me understand the subject in great detail. I could not have asked for a better professor. the GOAT
BEST TEACHER UCR HAS TO OFFER. Bro loves his job and it shows, he is super friendly and down to earth and you actually learn a lot. His class is set up to provide a decent amount of hw and tests, which can be done online since he still has that option. You put in the work and you learn. 10/10 class. Go out of your way to take this class fr.
Gives lots of resources
OMG I could go on about Joab. The other reviews speak for themselves. He is THE BEST professor I have ever had. This class was definitely difficult for me but I would take it a million times over again just because of JOAB. Lectures are so fun and he provides EVERY resource you could ever need. This is my 3rd class with him. UCR give him a RAISE!
The best professor ever.
Joab is a fantastic teacher. All pre-recorded lectures and discussions with online accessibility. You can finish this class only online if you do everything!
LOVE THIS PROFESSOR, many opportunities for extra credit. Very accessible if you have questions. Attend the first 2 classes and you don't have to attend another class all quarter if you don't want to. The only catch of not going is you miss on extra credit assignments, not saying there aren't other ways of getting them. Every exam is done at home.
passionate teacher and cares about students. never have to show up.
He is very considerate and respectful towards his students and very passionate about economics. I loved taking micro with him and I'm going to take macro next quarter with him too. W Professor, truly the best at UCR.
Just take him trust
Great professor who genuinely cares about students and what he teaches. Everything is posted on Canvas so technically you don't need to attend lectures but he will still have in-person lectures(he even points this out and gives you the option). Very straightforward grading and you have multiple opportunities for extra credit!
Heavy respect for him. Appreciate this man for real. Trust and take.
Goated professor. Sad to see him leave to Duke. Also goated boxing coach.
To be honest I only went to class the first day of school. I still passed thats why I got the grade I got. I feel like I could've done MUCH better if I participated more. But the class was that easy that I didn't have to go. There are 2 midterms and a final. Which were done online. And there is extra credit opportunities.
Although it was a challenging class but it was a fun and interesting class I ever experienced, there are 8 quiz modules, 2 homework, 1 econ paper, two exams in midterm, and a final. There is a lot of extra credit so take advantage of it. I was feeling sad that he will be leaving UCR for Duke so, I want to wish him for best in his academic career.
Class was online, and the coursework was fairly easy. Exams were a little hard, but definitely not hard enough to not get an A.
I took this course online during the Summer. I never liked economics and found it quite confusing in high school, but this class was a breeze. The lectures are pre-recorded and the discussion section was optional (treated like office hours). I learned a lot from this class but it was easy because of how the information was presented. Easy A.
Professor Corey is an amazing teacher who genuinely cares about his students. While attendance is mandatory, you can technically complete the course online if needed. There are plenty of extra credit opportunities, and the grading is straightforward. unstuck ai was a big help for studying and prep.
I LOVE YOU JOAB COREY PLEASE COME BACK!!
