She always fumbled on her words and in the middle of reading her lecture she would be like "wait, I'm not sure if thats right I'm gonna have to look it up." The way she words her test are kinda confusing, she always had to throw questions out. Wouldn't recommend her.
i agree that she does not know her stuff, though you have no choice in this school. She is the only one teachin it. you waste your time in lecture, you should bring your own computer and do your own thing in class when she figures stuff out during class. Not very helpful, never in her office
She a very nice teacher but very unorganized. Shes not very clear on what she wants you to know. I had to go to tutoring because she wasnt very helpful.
She is a bit unorganized but she always willing to help , when study make sure u know her slide shows and I recommend recording lecture , and study guides . very sweet person and one of the best Physilogy teacher taken . Always willing to help and give out extra credit . Nothing comes easy her class is hard work but she does prepare u for nursing
She is very helpful and will do what is needed for you to understand the material. You have to make sure you let her know what you are having trouble with, and she with assist you. Her extra credit is awesome!!! Her tests do have several questions thrown out, but that's only an advantage to us as students. She can be a bit all over the place.
Physiolgy is not an easy class, you have to study like never before understand what you are studying and think critically. Joan is a good instructor, very helpful, yes she not perfect. If you are lazy and not smart, don't take her class. What i learnt from her will help me in my nursing program.
i got an A, IS DOABLE. Don't be lazy study hard, don't memorize but understand what you are doing.
She is very clear and has a very interesting way of teaching that has you researching for more. She encourages you to research some of the topics she covers. She wants you to understand the topics so memorizing things doesn't help very much.
she is very unclear, her study guides are terrible and she thinks you should know every slide... one lecture has 100 slides!!
She's a very helpful teacher. Her tests are hard but very reflective of the kinds of questions one will get @ the university pre-med or nursing or any health programs... i.e. you need to apply a ridiculous amount of time to critical studying. Her lectures are interesting and in-depth and she cares alot about providing extra help during office hrs
Extremely helpful and approachable. Tests are "hard" but everything you need to study is provided in her review sheets, lecture slides and a ridiculous amount of studying/critically thinking. Lectures are interesting and in my opinion, Lab are interesting, well-supported and supplemented (i.e. she explains all procedures and concepts clearly)
she is really good at explaining physio. she is extremely beyond helpful!howeve her xams are hard so read the book and go through the slides several times ... her tudy guides are really helpful! Do not take micro and physio together! Good Luck
Very unorganized, tests are ridiculous, and does not know her own material
She's a good teacher & I recommend her. Although the class is anatomy & physio, she emphasized more on physio which I did not enjoy. Overall, she's awesome but the class is hard.
she is an awesome teacher always helpful for her student. physio* is a difficult class, sometime we intend to memorize it rather than underatnding the mtaerial. taking her class really help prepare me towards my future carrer.if u are willing learn and put in enough time to study oustide the class, i will recommened her.
Is awesome, but be ready to work your butt off. Her test are equal to a biology 300 level class. I can tell from experience since I am a bio major. If you cant handle the critical thinking you won't be able to handle your professional school. Go talk to her and take Initiative. Show her what you know and your thought process and she will help u out
This teacher is under Joan Backey too. She is awesome and explains the material in an easy way. Remember that this class is about critical thinking and not by pure memorization. Study the material every day. All quiz and exams are tricky. For the quizzes know the material inside and out. You might have to review 60 to 100 slides for the quiz.
The teacher is great she makes it easier to understand and really gets you thinking. This class was b/w difficult and easy just remember that what ever she doesn't go over in class is in the power points and the book. Also i really recommend looking up Wendy Riggs on youtube it really helped me pass this class.:)
She is awesome in explains the material. Her tests are tricky so you really need to study hard and put in some time. You need to understand a certain concept and you need to be able to apply it to different situations. If you'r not able to do that you wont do well in her class or in any other upper division science class.
Dont assume Im some lazy student,I have taken (and Aced) several upper division science courses and I have a BA. Very UNORGANIZED(took 1 month to return scantron exam)and her tests are not reflective of her material. Reads straight from unhelpful slides during lecture, not engaging whatsoever. Tests on concepts that are not taught in lecture.
Physio is a hard class in general, but her teaching skills weren't that great. The substitutes were better at explaining the concept than her. she reads off the powerpoints quick. Her exams are hard, she gives a study guide & you feel like u are ready for the exam but then you realize she puts many Q's on the exam that were not on the study guide.
Tests were not representative of lecture or book. She uses tricky wording. Not many A's given because she doesn't not adequately teach the material. You will have to learn and understand it on your own to get a B. Time, effort, understanding NOT equal to grade.
This teacher is awesome. If you look at her power point and record her lectures, you can pass with an A or B. You also have to put time into studying the subject. I rarely read the book and still passed with a B. I highly recommend her because she can explain the subject to your understanding.
Ms. Murillo is such a sweet person. However, that doesn't mean her exams are nice and easy too. Her exams are tricky and ALWAYS has an essay question that requires a good understanding of the materials. Her study guide is fair enough and if you try really hard you can pass. It seems like a lot of students in my class were retakers tho.. study hard!
Would not take again. Doesn't explain concepts clearly. Reads off PowerPoint's. Uninspirational. Tough tests and quizzes. Assigns little to no extra credit. Late to class and never hands back assignments or tests in a timely matter. Lab exams ARE A NIGHTMARE AMD EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. Made me buy a textbook that she literally never had us use.
She is not inspirational at all, the equipment used are sooooo old, I bet she doesn't really know how it really works.
4 exams & tests are difficult!!! 2 lab exams, also difficult!! Professor is very nice but a tough grader & unorganized. Lab was never explained clearly, she kinda just droned on & on without making any sense & then threw you out to complete the lab. I received more help from my lab partners than her. Prepare to learn physio on your own time to pass
Gives 20 points extra credit. Accepts late labs. Does not hand back assignments at all or in a timely manner. Very long exams with not enough time allotted!!!!!!!! Nice professor but not a nice grader. Physiology is a hard subject but she makes it harder. Study hard, but exams are so tricky that you still won't get an A. Unless you're a genius
Love Murillo! Her class was so easy, I went to tutoring 6 days out of the week & Im hoping to receive a C! Absolutely fantastic prof! Love all the busy work assignments! They sure kept me busy! Lab exams were really hard but lovely, who doesnt love a challenge!? Also absolutely loved when ms Murillo would cut into exam time by passing back papers!!
Shes nice to talk to and helpful if you go up to her, but I didn't like her as a teacher. Took over a month to give back our midterms (90% scantron, 10% short answer) or any other test. Very disorganized. For the lab practicals, focus on interpreting the lab data, not much on the procedure. For Lec Exams also focus on interpreting possible outcomes
She is very knowledgeable and is passionate about the subject. I have a background in the subject and an auditory learner which helped me greatly. She uses power points for lecture and they are very detailed. Focus on main ideas and physiological processes she reviews in depth. Repeated concepts always appear on exams.
She is a great professor for starting out the A&P series. She is always open for questions during lectures. Many of my classmates gave medical related questions and Murillo really knows her stuff. Highly recommended.
Professor Murillo is so caring and warm. She may seem unapproachable at first but when you get to know her, you will see what I meant. Her tests are straightforward but you must study the powerpoints. Not hard but not easy either. Just study the powerpoints! She is very good at explaining things and don't be afraid to ask questions!
Ms. Murillo is a very nice professor. I like how she explains her lecture. However, she missed a few classes which put us behind. I like that she is available when I have questions.
Prof Murillo is one of a kind. She is highly intelligent and knows how to teach very well. Will walk you through step by step, and teach verbally, by drawing, and even shows you exactly where to find the subject matter in the textbook. She is hilarious and truly cares about every single student. It's obvious physiology is her passion. Grades hard
Mrs. Murillo is an amazing instructor. She is helpful and straight forward with lectures, she makes sure her students understand the material. The assignments and quizzes are from the PowerPoint, no book needed. You will have a great time learning in lab. I would definitely recommend her but you have to study a lot, SI is also available for help.
If you would like to live in tutoring & learn physio on your own time, then go ahead & take Murillo! I learned more on YouTube than I did in lecture/lab. Also, don't expect to know your current grade because grades are rarely updated. DO expect to be behind in lecture. 10/10 would not take again
Professor Murillo is a great teacher. The lecture material can be difficult at times, but she always explains in detail and with illustrations on the white board. Before moving on to other lecture topics she asks her students if they have any questions. Murillo is approachable and kind, so I did not feel intimidated. Also, SI sessions are key.
Professor Murillo was an amazing teacher. The class is a little difficult but she offers a lot of help. She has office hours and if you can't make those she can rearrange something so you are able to get the understanding you need. I believe she graded fairly and her test were from the material she taught.
Professor Murillo is nice and approachable. She is willing to help her students succeed; however, she missed classes several times including the last two meetings before the final. She goes through her lecture too fast, power point is not detailed, and questions on her exams are tricky. Be ready to study on your own.
Professor Murillo is a sweet and pleasant woman who is very knowledgeable about physiology . She encourages students to go to office hours and is very helpful during lab. She happened to have family and health issues throughout the semester and missed some days but she tried her best (which she did a great job) at lecturing and giving tests on time
She is a really caring and understanding instructor. She is a great professor, the work isn't a lot either.
Ms. Murillo is caring & understanding of personal life. She works with all her students, but DEF. keep her in the loop. Professor was dealing with health issues, causing her to miss class a few times. STUDY HARD ANYWAYS. Powerpoints all you need with google for reference. Quiz/tests have study guides, FOLLOW, UNDERSTAND CONCEPT & you will get an A.
She is really an amazing woman! She is a great professor, if you want to clear things up that you do not understand. Then ask, she'll clear whatever misunderstandings you have. I do recommend to pay attention and do the work. She's likes people to participate in class as well as Lab.
Every time you miss a class it is like missing a weeks worth. She does slide notes which are also available in blackboard. Extra Credit to boost up points if you missed an assignment. After class she tends to tend tell you what is going to on the test and what to study for. Great teacher.
Professor Murillo was a very enjoyable teacher she helped a lot and offered extra credit . take notes and follow directions she always offered study guide for her exams. she is a very caring and understanding professors . she is a very rare gem. I enjoyed having her class .
I have always been a A /B student and this class was hard. DO THE DRAWINGS ON THE BOARD AND REALLY DO KNOW THEM. Read the chapters, do the questions in the back of the book. Beware of exam 3, it is the hardest of the 4. Try and score high on the other 3. She asks a lot of clinical case questions. Available after class, do the extra credit!
If you want to take her class as a general Ed, then forget an A . However with medium effort you can easily pass with an A. She prepares health professionals. she scared me at first sight, but she is so sweet and caring.
Out of all the professors that teach Human Physiology on campus, Professor Murillo is the best. Professor Murillo cares about her students and she concentrates more on what you need to know for your nursing career. She does however takes forever to grade your quizzes, exams, and lab reports. She also tends to get behind on lectures.
Joan is an awesome teacher. She is very understanding and wants to help you out. Very approachable. She likes to draw on the board, and if its on the board, then it will be on the test. Some things on the test may be from a tangent topic in class and not necessarily the power point, so try not to miss class. She also offers a lot of extra credit!
Hard class but do-able as the professor is awesome, she is willing to answer any questions and works with tutors at the Student Success Center to better assist you. She knows her material and offers extra credit. She is here to help and will let you know of any opportunities that might help/prepare you for the medical field. Great Class.
Joan is such a good professor. She is the most challenging professor I've took thus far. I am now more prepared for future classes. She gives great feedback and never gets annoyed about questions. GO TO TUTORING, helps so much.
I loved taking her class. She is very nice, pleasant, and professional. very approachable if you have questions. cares about students success. explains the course material clearly. you must attend class to learn the material to pass. if you have everyday life problems and be straight up she will try to work with you. highly recommended. Good luck.
The only real problem I've had with this class is the quiz and exam wording is awful. They're usually written in tricky fragmented sentences where even if you know the material very well, it's easy to miss the question since it wasn't written properly. I really believe if her tests were edited properly, class averages would have been higher.
Professor Murillo is an AMAZING teacher! Her subject is a hard subject to teach but she does a great job at explaining the material. Attendance not mandatory but if you want to pass you need to be there for the lectures, she gives a study guide for each exam. Offers easy extra credit, lenient on turning in lab work. Sad she doesnt teach BIO251:(
Amazing teacher and highly intelligent. She does a great job of breaking down the material, BUT YOU HAVE TO ASK THE QUESTIONS, if she doesnt know she cant help. I learned the hard way. She is a fair grader and give ec. Would recommend not skipping class and record lectures. Gizel is amazing as well.
She really knows her physiology and brings it to real life experiences, especially if you are going into allied health programs. Go to tutoring, don't wait. She is a fair grader and there isn't any surprises. Overall a great teacher, learned a lot, lectures are very detailed, print the power points. She cares about her students being successful.
Professor Murillo is an amazing professor! She's great at explaining concepts and also has a funny personality that makes the class less boring. She gives out extra credit, so take advantage! Literally the only downside is her test and quiz wording can be tricky so read carefully! Even then you can ask her to explain the question better.
Physiology is a hard subject, I struggled with the class. I don't know how many people actually got an A in the class but I know it was very few. her exams were hard and I was disappointed at how little she actually cared for the students who were struggling in her class.
Murillos lectures are on point. Study guides are provided. Ask her anything and shell help you out. She will recommend going to tutoring since this is a lot of stuff to cover (great tutors at the success center!!!) Over all, her lectures WILL cover everything on her tests. I recommend recording her and listening back to it.
Professor Murillo is a great professor! She really cares about her job and students. Her lecture and lab exams are tough so be prepared to study hard. We also had to do a 5 page research paper about any bio topic. This class is not easy so get ready to study.
Professor Murillo is a caring professor. She provides a lot of extra credit opportunities so keep an eye out for those. Most of the grading comes from exams and quizzes, so study study study. She gives study guides for the exams. There are both lab and lecture exams. Also attend office hours, she answers your questions.
I took her for summer school and it was the worst I cried myself to bed every night we take a test, yes I studied and I watched YouTube, read my book and watched lectures and I still came out with a C but I was so glad it was over felt like a heavy weight was lifted off my shoulders.
She was a good teacher but her exams and quizzes were not it. She creates her exams/quizzes and because of that, the questions do not make any sense and its hard to understand it or what shes trying to say. I scored all her tests with a C, the only that saved me from failing this class was her extra credits. Which she only allows 30 e.c. points
I wouldn't take her other than physiology since the tutors are actually doing the teaching for me. She isn't a bad person, she's actually quite nice and caring but her exams and quizzes can get confusing if you are not STUDYING. I studied every day and that's how I got A's on my exams. Not recommended to take if taken by another science course.
If you want to get an A in physiology, STUDY her online lectures and labs heavily! Her exams can be wordy and confusing so learn the material in a way that you can apply various scenarios to. She has 4 Lecture Exams, 2 Lab Exams (Midterm and Final), and a Physiology Paper (4 pages). Very caring and motherly. Very understanding of any situation!
I loved this class, it's probably the most interesting class I've taken in the two years that I've been at valley. Just make sure you attend lecture and study lectures over and over. You'll definitely pass if you put in the time!
Great and caring professor, she truly wants everyone to pass. Listen to the lectures taking notes and drawing out the concepts and this class will be very enjoyable. Highly recommend professor Murillo.
One of the best professors I've taken at Valley. Attending lectures will not be enough to get an A in the class. You will need to work alongside tutors to digest some of the harder concepts. There is a paper involved in the course but the subject can be anything you want related to physiology. Murillo really does want the best outcome for everyone.
The class contains complex material but Professor Murillo explains it carefully. Make sure to stay on top of tasks and keep up in order to understand topics. Look at her reviews and go to the Mesa Center for help! She is really understanding and a great teacher!!!
The class was hard and took a lot of time but Professor Murrilo is great! She makes sure one understands and makes the topics fun to learn!
Study PowerPoints and take notes during online lectures. Watch lab videos prior to in person labs. Everything is fair game on quizzes and tests. Study guides or not. Professor who does care and wants all students to succeed.
Great Professor. Post's lectures online as well as given in class. Extra credit. Always available to help. Tutors are a must! Good Exam outlines to help study and prepare well for exams
Really wants students to learn the material and will go into detail so you understand. Listen to the lectures and take advantage of tutoring and you will be fine. Also, pay attention to quiz and exam questions they can be tricky.
Preferred her lecture videos versus textbook. Lots of opportunities for extra credit/homework. Followed her advice, instead of memorizing, use whiteboard to draw things out repeatedly. Go to tutoring! Relates lectures to patient scenarios. Difficult quizzes & exams. Requires active learning style, take good notes from her lecture videos.
The material for this class is not easy. Don't expect to learn everything on the first try, you will need to study in order to pass this class no matter how great your professor is. Ask questions, go to tutoring, orschedule a meeting after hours with Professor Murillo. She is very encouraging and always makes herself available to help her students.
very helpful and understanding.
I had taken Joan's BIO100 Lab class during the fall semester 2022, and it was a great experience. I learned a lot, and the labs were concise. Homework was relatively easy, just lab write-ups and there were no curve balls thrown during exams. Overall, Joan is an amazing professor, and I am super lucky to have taken her course.
I liked A&P with Professor Murillo although she was not often available outside of class. The assignmend descriptions were very clear for lecture and lab throughout the course and any problems with the exams were quickly corrected by the professor.
Professor Murillo is very supportive. If there is a concept you aren't understanding, she makes it a point to help you to grasp it.
A very understanding and supportive professor who goes out of her way to help you succeed. This class does require a lot of studying, tutoring highly recommended. There is also a paper with a topic of your choice.
Beware the class has tough tests/quizzes with confusing questions. They're often confusing and make it easy to miss the correct answers, even if you know the material well. So, make sure to go to tutoring. The teacher is helpful, her lectures are in-depth, and she offers extra assistance. The labs are interesting, and well-explained.
Prof Murrilo is approachable and always ready to help, she is funny and gives relatable examples in class. There is a need to study the lecture notes and practice the diagrams and concepts. It is a tough class but when you study and make use of the STEM center tutors, it helps in passing the class. Multiple choice quiz questions and essays.
In general, biology can be a challenging course, but Professor Murillo made it fun. She was more concerned with confirming your understanding than if you did the work perfectly. She was easy to communicate with and made herself available whenever I needed help. She worked around my busy work schedule and was very understanding.
I took this class during the spring and from the first meeting Professor Murillo was laughing and making science jokes. She was very clear on her expectations for homework, assignments and lab work. She was an absolute delight and so much fun. There are exams every week on the criteria you learned. There are labs every week.
Loved this professor. She cares so much about her students. She is always making sure everyone is understanding the work assigned, gives extra credit, always reminding students of all the resources on campus. She does grade fairly and understand life can be challenging and is easy going on turning in assignments a little late. Would recommend 100%.
Amazing teacher and amazing course! 10/10. I took Bio 261 and it was such an amazing class. Lecture was online which we had to do quizzes, discussions, and lecture exams all online we had to do it ourselves on our own time. Lab was mandatory to go in person, lab exams online though we had to also do it at home at our own time. Alot of extra credit!
