She is a great teacher, very passionate in Research and in what she does. The class is hard!! but it's not her fault, it's just the class itself. There are 3 research papers, 1 online quiz every week before class (a lot of reading), lab assgmts and 2 presentations. (IT'S A LOT!) Attendance is mandatory during the lab. She is very helpful and nice.
Dr. Fisher is an amazing professor in the sense that she's always there to guide you through your papers and SPSS. However, her lectures are rather boring. You should take this class if statistics aren't your thing and you need extra help in understanding you SPSS output or if you're not that great a writer and need extra help.
She is super sweet and willing to help you in any way she can. However, it is a lot of work. Most of the work is done in a lab setting. online quizzes every week that are not the easiest. she grades fair on the research papers because she knows they are confusing at first. you kind of have to read the book and learn on your own.
She is a great professor! She really knows what she's talking about and her expectations are very reasonable. There are weekly quizzes that can be a pain but she drops the two lowest scores. The labs aren't difficult as she is very clear on instructions. There are two papers that she is also very clear on. Overall great would recommend.
Dr. Fisher is a great prefessor. Although lectures can get boring, she is very helpful and has very reasonable expectations. Weekly quizzes that are not the easiest and can be a pain, but she drops two lowest scores. You definitely have to read the text to do well on the weekly quizzes. Would certainly recommend.
Loved the videos! Fun class.
Very nice teacher! She gives a lot of work though, but she grades fair and easily. She is also very approachable if you have any questions. An "A" is attainble if you study and work hard on all the assignments. Definitely would recommend her for Human Cognition.
One of the hardest classes I've taken so far but what you put into it is what you get out of it! Fisher tries her best to teach stats and does it pretty well I believe but some chapters are confusing and can get complicated. Talk to her in lab or office hours and it will help a lot! One quiz and one lab due every week and one midterm and one final.
This class was a difficult course however she is a great professor. The material is boring but I managed to get an A! Read the chapters before lecture, do the quizzes and it will defiantly help you with lab. For studying the exams I reviewed my graded quizzes and wrote all my notes by hand to help me absorb the information.
She's a very nice professor, she reads off the slides most of the time, she makes it less boring by having some interaction with the students. Attendance is sometimes mandatory, but that's only if she gives out classwork. I rarely studied for this class and if I did it was about 30-1 hr. It's an easy B or C but you'd have to study more for an A
She will help you if you ask however she isn't patient. Doesn't explain she gets frustrated very quickly. Doesn't take roll but gives out random class work which count for points. The labs that are given are due at the end of the day. There are weekly quizzes that count for points. It is not an easy class.
Human Cognition was a very challenging class. Lectures were okay, kind of boring. Didn't show up for class very much. Book is very interesting. Online labs due almost every week. Big Research Proposal due at the end of the semester. It was challenging, but totally worth it at the end. Test bank is almost completely from the book, so read all of it!
she is a great person but not the best professor. she knows a lot but cannot convey her knowledge to students as well. goes off topic a lot. Classes are little blunt.
One of the worst teachers to take for human cognition.
A lot of work but worth it.
I didn't think I would pass this class but ended up doing okay. The labs are important. Online homework is easy. attending lecture helps.
She is very educated in her field but the way she teaches was very difficult for me to follow along with. She teaches stats based on a conceptual view point rather than through equations. She reads directly off the powerpoints so lectures can be very boring. I have taken a stats class previous to hers but I found her class confusing.
She is a very nice professor, and tries to have small jokes to lighten the mood. I passed the class because I read the book, and did my work diligently. There were two midterm exams, and one final. Labs were pretty long, but getting used to SPSS help you in the long run. The lectures were long... If you want an easy A, you won't find it here.
Good professor, stats was very difficult for me! very confusing at times and lectures the whole class period. It was difficult for me to understand but surprisingly passed by doing good on labs and hw!
Psy 130 was one of the BORINGEST class I've ever taken. She just goes through slides all class. However, there are no tests. There was only a final exam which was an essay. There are debates and like 3 papers you have to write. Other than that, easy class but just super boring.
I loved Dr. Fisher! The course material is challenging, but she'll bend over backwards trying to help you understand it, so ask her questions when you're lost. Reading and attendance are a MUST if you want to do well. She has in-class assignments that count toward attendance and participation, and she gives examples that aren't in the powerpoints.
The topic (Human Cog) for this class itself is very boring in general, however this professor doesn't make it any easier to want to engage in class. The way she grades is very discouraging, and made me wonder if she even considers that some students DO put in hard-work rather if she is satisfied with the material or not. Take another professor
For her class and homework being so easy to understand she makes incredibly hard test. She is bubbly and willing to help out but her midterm and final really make you put your knowledge to the test. Great personality and tries to make the class very lively but, be ready and prepared for her tests.
Course material tough to understand, so you can't expect this class to be easy. It requires effort to get an A. Dr. Fischer teaches the material well and is very helpful if you ask. Lectures slides are kind of unorganized/long; most of my learning happened from reading the textbook. If you want an A, ask for help, do all readings, & study guides.
She is a really funny teacher, loves meems. Lectures can be confusing but she is available for help whenever needed. There are about 8 homework quizzes and they are very important don't blow them off. Labs are also important and greatly impact your grade. Attendance is not mandatory but she has random class assignments that can really help grades.
As long as you go to class youll pass, labs are pretty easy since the teacher helps u thru them.
I struggled in stats during high school but understood it so much better this semester! Buying the book isn't needed because she explains everything in the lectures! She also posts the lecture, assignments, and quizzes online which really helped me study. In class assignments count as points so skipping class isn't the best idea. Super helpful!
I got Cs on all of the exams and I got a B in the class I got As on all of the Labs and on the homework. Her homeworks are through beachbored and are considered "quizzes" she's a great professor helps when help is needed but you do need to come to class and pay attention.
Great lecturer. Had a way of being able to explain concepts in multiple ways so that the students understood. Is EXTREMELY helpful, so don't be afraid to ask her about anything or to clarify something she was always willing to. Show up to class and pay attention to slides. Go over them before exams. Easier than your average math class.
Dr. Joan is awesome, she does stop when you have questions. She wants to make sure you learn and not just pass her class. I suggest taking her class because she cares and is willing ot help out.
Read the book take her practice quizzes and review them they appear on test. 3 article summary's and 8 cog labs. Final poster and Final paper are challenging she assigns them last min so please don't let it creep up on you it can get overwhelming. 6 pgs 5 articles. Fake Researcher proposal. difficult professor but shes not horrible either.
Super tough grader! she posts her power points online which is good but her labs are insanely difficult! If we don't know the answer she treats us like we are stupid and barely helps us. Really hard to get a 100% on anything even if it seems easier. Super boring lecture also, she doesn't know when to just stop and give it a rest.
There was a lot of work, and you had to do it. But if you did, you pretty much got a good grade. the coglabs were helpful. slides were available online
Great class! No textbook. Read a lot of papers and most of them were interesting. Weekly writing but easy to do. Final paper but no final exam.
HDEV 320 is a difficult course, but Prof. Fisher does her best to make sure you understand the material. The course itself is very intimidating, but she gives multiple chances to make sure you submit your best work. Also gives multiple extra credit opportunities, curves, & participation is crucial! Not an easy A, but definitely possible!!
Research Methods isn't an exciting class, but she tries with memes and videos to help you learn the material. 3 exams, group research project and homework almost every week. Homework isn't hard, it's usually just doing the reading and then doing an online quiz. I've never had a professor grade assignments so quickly. Solid choice for a professor.
She tries her best to make her students understand and the class funny. There's homework at least once a week and the textbook is necessary to pass the class. She's easy to talk to and grades the lab work leniently. All exams are MC except for the last one
Dr Fisher is passionate about her subject! There's a lot of small assignments that add up but she is an easy grader.
I hate statistics!!! And I never want to take it again, but she's really good and really helpful.
I really enjoyed this class. The second half was especially interesting. The work was steady. Not overwhelming. Final project on topic of your choice turned in on line instead of a final exam.
I really liked this class even though I was afraid at the beginning that it was going to be a lot of work. Turns out the work is spread out over the semester and not so bad. I learned a lot from doing the CogLab assignments and you get extra credit for doing more than assigned. Final paper turned in online instead of a final exam so that's good.
Be ready to write a page summary of an article she gives you every week, she grades them very hard. 2 online quizzes based on lecture, no textbook needed. One midterm she curves it. Would not take again.
Professor Fisher is an amazing professor. She does have a lot of assignments, but no need to worry she spreads them out throughout the semester and it does not seem like a lot. Final project is turned online instead of a final exam, and it is topic of your choice. Would recommend!
I really learned a lot. She breaks things down into bite-sized pieces and it does kind of add up after all. Very fair grading with rubrics to help you understand what is required.
There's a lot of writing but it's all spread out throughout nicely and didn't feel overwhelming. 1 research proposal at the end of the semester, 2 exams, and 1 final exam. She's extremely helpful if you visit her during office hours. Would recommend getting started on the proposal early on in the semester cause it seems rushed toward the end!
A lot of in-class assignments for participation points so come to class! Homework due every week, but it is spread out so it's not as overwhelming. Group presentation and a 7-10 page paper due at the end of the semester instead of a final. 3 exams- all online. Overall, fairly decent class- just come to class and do the assignments and you'll pass!
Would never take again. Invited me into her office only to be cruel and unethical. Forced me to say I was a failure before she would continue the conversation and still would not speak to me. All she had was a bruised ego for being wrong and she did not like being informed of her mistake. Would never recommend. Is a very proud individual.
Stats isn't a fun subject but this prof really helped me understand the material and do well in the class. Lots of assignments that are either open book or labs she will help with. Recommend!
Dr Fisher cares a lot about her students and about her subject. Writing pretty much every week but easy to do as long as you do the reading. No textbook. articles on different topics. You get to pick your own ideas for final project. Some group work.
I really loved this class and Dr Fisher is awesome! There's a lot of work but doing the CogLabs was sometimes tedious but necessary to understand the reading. She gives a lot of feedback so make sure you read it.
Lectures are boring if you do not care about cognition and brain function. There are CogLabs fairly simple. Reading responses, pretty difficult. Online exams are pretty easy. There is a final paper to do at the end instead of taking a final.
I thought it was interesting and I love how passionate she is about the subject. Gives great feedback and really willing to help. Answers email- even on weekends and willing to meet outside of office hours. She really wants you to do well and gives you every opportunity to do so. I love Dr. Fisher!
Tough class but really good teacher.
I have taken other research methods courses and her's required way more than was needed. Regretted taking her class but had no other choice. Seriously, avoid if possible.
Not an easy class but she's a fair grader and the class was more interesting than I expected it to be and I learned a lot.
Worst prof I have ever had. Requires so much work. Seems unnecessary. Started to think that she liked grading work. Labs are terrible and asks so much of us. Stickler for everything too. Just not fun at all. Get ready to work work work.
I loved this class and Dr Fisher is so passionate and understanding. Not sure why students complain about the amount of work. There were assignments every week but not a lot of work for each one of them. I thought it was great that she let us pick a topic we were interested in and gave a lot of feedback along the way.
6 homeworks that you get to correct, 3 exams (pretty easy if you go to class) labs were challenging but she was there to answer questions memes and videos were a pluss
I took this class when it went online halfway through the semester and Dr Joan did a great job adjusting when most of my other teachers really didnt. The class is required for the major and so it is what it is but she did a great job showing us what we needed to know and was available for questions all the time.
gives a reasonable amount of hw (imo) each week. she is very sweet and makes sure to explain parts of the chapters/coglabs so we understand better. make sure to study for exams!
Honestly, she herself, is a sweet and exciting professor. she assigns coglabs which are really fun and help you apply the tasks to you. Exams are easy too. However, I took her during COVID and had to write reading questions weekly, short essays weekly, and write a 7 page paper proposing an idea of research to build off of, all with strict grading.
This class was way too much work for a 300 level course! We had labs, reading responses, three exams, a group project, and a final paper that was 6-7 pages long. On top of that we had to do weekly discussions that were like 8 questions each! She doesn't explain assignments clearly and her rubrics a vague. This class felt like an advanced RM class.
This was a really interesting class. Talked a lot about controversial topics. Much of the grade was about engaging in discussion.
Labs, weekly discussions, reading responses, three exams, group project presentation, final paper. A lot of this work was unnecessary, and her grading was inconsistent with everyone's work. Her syllabus should also be revised to include more detail of what shes looking for. Hard to keep up! If you can't do work, do not take this class.
Probably the best professor I've had so far. Very kind and responsive in and outside of class.
Very clear w everything. Organized. Chapter quizzes that are MC (she calls it hw) after each 2 chapters Quizlet. Discussion board ea. week and your responses to ppl count towards participation. Final paper. 1 group project. Easy. I definitely recommend this critical thinking course bc material is interesting and she knows how to teach!
Dr. Fisher is really nice and respects students. 2 presentations (one with group). 3 exams. 8 short weekly papers. Have to watch recorded lectures/review lectures before actual class meeting. Class is just overview. Class listed for Tue/Thurs but only meets on Tue. Moderately challenging class.
Fisher is an awful professor. She doesn't do a whole lot of teaching. Instead, she has prerecorded lectures where she simply reads slides in the most boring monotone manner. She likes to abuse her power as a professor and takes it upon herself to censor what students say in discussion board posts. Avoid this professor.
This was a tough semester for me and I think for a lot of other students but Dr Fisher was understanding and kept reaching out to me to make sure I was on track. The CogLabs were tough at first but got easier and were actually the best part of the class. Would definitely take again.
I also took Dr Fisher for research methods which was a class I dreaded taking and it was during COVID so everything was switched to online but it worked out. We did a research project using an online survey and she walked us through every step and helped with the analysis too.
there were 4 essays. The prompt was very hard to understand and it was a pick a side essay. She was accessible outside of class, responded fast but never really answered my questions the way I needed them to be answered. (Which was in a clearer way) struggled with writing the essays but overall I got a got grade
love Fisher!!!! was dreading taking research methods because of the tedious work that is involved but she explains it very clearly and will answer every question you need. she does everything step by step and makes sure you understand the material. the quizzes are all based on the textbook and is very easy to find the answers since it is open book!
Dr. Fisher is a fine professor when it came to lecturing, but she is a very tough/inaccurate grader. The feedback she would give on projects wouldn't make any sense and she would say that I am missing things that I clearly included. When I would email her asking to clarify, she would respond very vaguely and not actually give me the answers I need.
I liked her, she made a mandatory research class bearable. She is super kind and understanding and always willling to help when asked. She records zoom lectures and if you keep up with the class the 3 exams are not hard. I will take another psy course with her bc I like her teaching methods. Defenitly recommend
Professor Fisher made research methods a bearable course. She is always willing to help outside of class and help on labs. There is homework every two weeks, three exams, and a final paper. Make sure to read the textbook, it will help a lot.
Chapter contains about 40+ slides (13 chapters). Her study guides will not help you with the exams. Coglabs were ok but did not help in preparing for the exams. Too much info in 1 hr of each lecture as she can go through 20 slides and you might fall asleep. Many concepts in the textbook and she will use them in exams. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!
The lectures were a little technical, long, and somewhat boring, but she was pretty good at teaching the material. Pretty forgiving of late work and let you redo assignments early in the semester. Exams were difficult but were open book/note. One group project but you only have to do your own work. Communicated well. Would recommend Prof. Fisher.
Professor Fisher can have you do a lot of work and be very lecture heavy, but I did like her teaching style and she really tries to connect everything to the real world and tries to make easy for her students. She is really understanding and I am looking to take another class from her. Don't take her class if you aren't prepared to work.
I took Prof Fisher for PSY477. She is really sweet, kind, and clearly knows her subject. Her lectures were very informative and detailed. The class wasn't difficult but there were quite a few tedious discussion posts and papers to write. She is very understanding, though, and will allow late submissions. One group pres. I enjoyed this class a lot.
One group project, you select the topic. 6 quizzes, weekly discussion board posts, 3 papers (the last one is worth 2 papers), and 3 tests. Noncumulative final. Very interesting class and lectures, you could honestly get by with just reading the book and not attending lectures. Quizzes are open-book. The professor is very caring and teaches greatly.
Very nice professor. Very straightforward class, the golden ticket to an A is to read the textbook. Everything on her tests are straight from the textbook. She is also very understanding and lets you re-submit papers to make up points. I would take this class again.
she is genuinely so caring and willing to help. use the study guides! make sure you go to class to get the participation points from discussions. lectures are average but she makes sure to get to all the points you'll need for the exams.
I took her for 477 psy of addiction. Very interesting and informative course. Had discussions, No exams, and biweekly quizzes, and one final paper. Super sweet, willing to help, and accommodating. Pretty easy class, highly recommended
a good person and good professor. i took her for PSY 332 and 447. her class is quite easy and she teaches in a way that will actually help you learn the material. she doesnt just read off the slides in lecture, instead adding other information and telling little stories to help you understand the content even more. would also curve our tests in 332
this class is HARD. teacher is nitpicky and grades hard. 6 25-point quizzes with up to 5 short answer questions + weekly discussion boards. you HAVE to read the textbook in order to take the tests. the lectures are just a repeat of the reading. there's a mood tracking midterm + paper where she bugs you. it's a lot of work + confusing.
Emotions was definitely an upper division course. You have a few papers, mood log, weekly discussion board, quizzes every 2ish weeks, a group presentation, and group participation assignments at the end of class. You read lots of research articles outside of the textbook chapters but the professor is very understanding.
Quizzes are really hard but open note. Overall the class was really great, except how she handles AI scores on papers. It's an automatic 0 no matter what proof you have that you didn't use AI. She lets you rewrite it, but sometimes it still comes back with a high AI score. You get no feedback on how to write differently to not trigger AI detector
I really enjoyed this class! Dr. Fisher is very clear about how she wants assignments done, and she's generally an easy grader. There is a group project, but it's doable. You have to buy CogLab, but she allows you to share with other people. There's a paper but no final exam. Weekly quizzes, but listen in class, and it's pretty simple!
one of the worst profs i've had at csulb. she was extremely insensitive during class time towards homeless people and constantly talked bad about her DEAD daughter. always talked about her family during class. quizzes were VERY hard. i was constantly stressed in this class. shes a tough grader. in class-assignment = ticket to leave.
