She moves fast, but if you listen &take good notes you will get everything that is on the test.
very easy prof. moves through material quickly in class, so you need to pay attention. labs are easy. if you listen in class, and study the material presented you will definitely do well. know the material for the lab, study all of your drawings and keep up with the notebook she has you prepare.
good prof, if u go to every class u will do good, but she moves very fast.
She is a very nice prof but she moves fast through the material and has very hard tests. If you take her make sure you are ready to study everyday.
Excellent teacher
Ouch,,,, bad class
I have not had a professor at SHSU that is more interested in their profession than Dr. Hudson... If you go to class, take good notes, and pay attention to her lectures, there is no reason to do poorly. It does take effort, but I felt like I learned alot from her class.
Very easy class. She is very helpful but the problem is that her lecture is TOO BORING. I was always sleeping during the lecture. Questions in the final come from the previous tests. Questions are all multiple choice. Keep your eyes open, and you'll get easy A.
nice person but class was so bording if you decide to take her be ready to study every day. takes alot of notes doesnt give study guide
if you are a non major do not take this prof. personally trying to stay interested in this stuff is very hard and she is very factual so that doesnt help. she's a pretty cool chick but that class was banal. tests are super hard. she makes you learn it cuz if you dont study you'll fail plain and simple.
Dr. Hudson is one of the nicest biology profs at Sam. She always willing to help you, and was available any time I needed her. However, her tests are hard and she lectures mostly from figures in the book. If you study REALLY hard an A is possible. If you do not have a book.....you WILL fail
You have to read the book. You have to learn the material. All she does is make sure you learn what you have to. Fine pofessor. Once you know what sje expects, and deliver it you'll be fine. You can't get out of her class without learning. More power to her.
if you love long lectures, and factual information, with a monotone voice and love to read about biology in the textbook you will LOVE her. She will tell you that every semester majority of her classes fail and you better drop her class immediately. Her class takes a lot of effort but you have to motivate yourself because she won't do it.
too make a good grade in this class you must study a lot! tests are completely random. teaches mainly off book figures. tells her students she doesnt care if the class average is 60 (which it was in my class). be prepared to study like crazy! she is always available to help & tries to help, but most of the time is not. makes you work for your grade
stay away!!! horribly monotone and has a strong tendency to stray off subject to tell some nearly incomprehensible metaphor to something related to the material. she rarely stops talking. my advice- if you like a challenge, go for it. if you actually want to learn something, aim for a different professor.
If you're not into biology stay as far away as possible. If you don't attend her class very regularly you will not succeed, and if you skip classes she has no mercy and apparently takes pleasure in failing you at that point.
Horrible Teacher! She is rude and doesnt care if everyone fails her class. Her test are hard and dont go by the notes. She lectures the entire class time, and goes way past the intro to biology level. For the first test i studied everyday for an hour and still got a 70!! Dont take this class unless you want your entire life to consist of studying.
She is ridiculously hard. she doesnt care if you fail her class or not. She is constantly stopped class to complain no one is paying attention and everyone is texting. her lectures are boring, the tests are super hard and she assumes everyone loves biology. hardest class i have taken thus far, without a doubt.
Very hard class no matter who you take, but try to take TRIPP's class (he's easiest). She gets off topic alot and stops class to call out people who are talking. Does not give a review at all or post powerpoints on blackboard. You are on your own for tests. I studied so much and only made a C, including the extra credit (2 hw assignments) she gave.
Joan Hudson does not care about whether her students pass or fail. So if you NEED to pass dont lay it in her hands. Attendance isnt mandatory but u should go, her notes have ZERO to do with the test n the test are all your grade n extremly hard! i would not recomend her to anyone
not good teacher, twists tests around
I think that you will pass as long as you actually follow her notes and read about them in the textbook. The textbook is VERY important for reinforcement. The exams are almost completely from your notes but any curveballs she throws will probably be something she'll warn you about. Go to class. STUDY.
Good teacher. She uses real life examples which make it easier to understand the lecture. She uses the book a lot and you will need to study the pictures for the test. If she repeats something three times, you can be sure it will be on the test. However, she goes fast sometimes, and you will have to write quickly. know the pictures and powerpoints.
She is available before each class to answer questions. She answers emails promptly. Her lectures do go fast - so fast note taking is essential. The textbook is used a lot - especially the illustrations and charts. In my opinion, she does care about the success of her students. I would not hesitate in taking another of her classes.
I was very displeased with this professor. i learned the material to the extent that with a little more work i could teach this class. Her tests were very twisted and some questions came from general knowledge we should just know. Take another teacher if GPA is important to you. The class average was a low C even after the less motivated dropped.
The only way Dr. Hudson could be considered difficult is if you don't go to class and if you don't read your textbook. She sticks very closely to the text and her tests have a few curveball questions, which I think are just to keep you on your toes. I have gotten an A in her Cell Bio and Plant Morph classes, I think she's excellent. Hard but fair.
Dr. Hudson is the most genuine, caring professor I ever had.
She may have been a great teacher back in the day but she's losing her marbles. She puts stuff on tests that she told us we didnt need to know. Lectures are extremely boring and hard to follow because she puts up a JPG from the book and then draws arrows and writes all over it and expects you to follow. You have to write a 5 pg protein paper in lab.
Nice Lady, Garbage professor. Can not begin to describe how poor of a professor she is. The only way to make an A in the class is to have the book memorized word for word. The hardest thing about this class is trying to figure out how she is still a professor
good luck. memorize the textbook for tests and cry as your gpa goes down the toilet.
She's a really cool teacher and funny. She teaches well and clarifies everything well, but you HAVE to read the book and take notes. She gives a lot of notes in class and actually teaches more than other Botany professors. If you take Botany take Dr. Hudson. :)
You have to try REALLY hard to pass with a 60. If you are worried about GPA, don't take this teacher. She is a nice person, but it is extremely hard to follow her lectures. Her notes are not reliable. If you dont want to have any time to study for your other classes, take her class.
Knows her stuff. Moves very quickly through the material. You have to read the book and STUDY everything, from the panels to the diagrams. Tests are HARD and there are things on it that she might not go over very much. Be prepared...STUDY, STUDY, STUDY!
This class is not conceptually hard. All it is, is memorization. Yes, you have to know EVERYTHING. But she is super clear about what it is you need to know, and follows the text book to a tee. You just have to be willing to memorize everything.
Great Teacher and very helpful. She is always willing to explain everything in more detail if you ask for help. All you have to do is study and look at the figures in detail. If you are one of those people who cram the night before a test you will fail! She isn't hard, she just makes sure you know your stuff!
OMG... this lady is brutal. She puts powerpoints up to study saying this is whats on the test. Then on the test you might have 2 questions off the slides the rest are from the book. Even reading the book is not very helpful because you are confused as to what is really going on.... if you want to pass... pass on this lady!
This was my hardest class this semester. She wants you to remember everything (which is impossible to do) for a 10 question quiz that is 10 minutes long and a 53 question exam that is 50 minutes long. You cant even go back to previous questions once you answered them. I hated this class! Never will I take her classes again.
Requires research papers that are nothing but just unnecessary busy work in essence. Exams are extremely detailed to the point where you almost need to memorize the book to pass. I exerted all my efforts on this class and I still struggled throughout. If you care about your GPA, do not sign up for this one.
This professor gave specific instructions, but the tests required a webcam to be reviewed by her (freaky). Not much help on extra credit - no mercy.
So what I did was, I googled the answers to her quizzes, and found online reviews and studied those, cause the questions and answers were EXACTLY the same! too much to know for non majors, BUT because I was forced, I learned a lot! if you wont have time to read the textbook, take someone else!
RUN...away fast. She is a horrible prof, maybe a nice person but a horrible prof. Have to read a chapter a week for the online quizzes. Lecture drags on and she tries to make jokes but fails at it. You never know what is on the test. Extra credit is sometimes given but very rarely. Do not take her especially if you are a non science major.
Her tests are very specific. If you don't understand the material then you will not pass this class and it will be very hard. Her questions are detailed so that you must understand everything that she is talking about. This is not just a memorize her powerpoints and hopefully I will pass kind of class. She is also the sweetest lady I know though!
I am not very good at science and I struggled throughout this course. I managed to get a B. I used to read the chapters all the time and study very hard and still would not make good grades on her tests. I think I only made a B on one of her tests once, and the rest were C's. If you don't have a full grasp of the material, you will struggle.
If you have a choice to take her or die, i'd rather die. dont take her! you'll suffer. im not saying this because i didnt do good, but honestly no one does good in her class and she doesnt cares if u pass or fail. her tests make u feel like u need to remember every word from the book and thyre like 5 chap long. dont take her please! for your GPA!!
Dr. Hudson is one of the worst professors I have had at Sam. She is monotone and it is hard to stay awake. My best advice is to record her lectures and just listen to them over again while you study and follow along in the book. This helped me improve my grade greatly. Don't skip. Hardest B I've ever earned in an introductory course. Good luck.
Online class. Lots of busy work in the beginning and the online lab requires corresponding with other class members to get stuff done on time which can be frustrating. But, its easy. The entire class is available from the beginning so you can finish at your own pace.
She seemed very caring, and was there to help if you asked. By far the most personal online professor I've taken. She gives due dates, but opens everything up at the beginning, so you can knock out the work at your own pace. Everything is very straightforward, and she gives you plenty of resources to pass.
Dr. Hudson is so nice! I would definitely take her again. As long as you read and watch her lecture videos, you'll do fine! This class was really easy and the labs were a lot better than what I had anticipated!
Truly an amazing professor. All of her classwork is straight forwarded if you have an issue you can message her or her TA and they'll respond within a few hours. The tests are a tad bit complicated - but as long as you paid attention, you'll do fine.
This class was so boring. The worst part was every chapter had about 90 minutes of lecture videos and she began every single one with "Hello, scientists". Other than being annoying, it wasn't a bad class. Just boring and useless to a Psych major.
Took her class over the summer. She really cares about her students but the class is a lot of work. If you don't listen to her lecture videos and read, it will be really difficult. As long as you keep up with group assignments and pay attention to her videos you will do fine. If the class opens up early, start asap so you don't get behind.
Challenging online class with in-person tests, and lots of lecture videos. You've got to study, read, watch her videos if you want to make anywhere near a B or A. Plenty of work to do in her online lab too, including a research paper. This class will demand a lot of time and resources of a student. She cares, but she also expects a lot.
Hudson is a really nice professor and definitely willing to help explain concepts through office hours, however the online format is horrible. Her exams are VERY specific to the figures and you MUST have watched every second of the lectures and memorize the figures to do well in the class. As for the paper, just follow her rubric.
The online class was a breeze. I feel like all of the assignments were simplified. I didn't even have the book for this class. I took really detailed notes by pausing the lectures to write everything down. Even the lab assignments were easy!
The class is heavy on material but she makes sure she covers the basics in the online lecture videos. Make sure you create good notes as you go along with the lecture videos and you'll be fine. HINT: she will test you on your understanding of the material rather than your strict memorization of it. In my opinion one of the best professors at SHSU.
She's alright, nothing to write home about but I have had worse. I had her online and she opens all the class material at the same time so it would be to your benefit to knock as much out as possible at the beginning. The class isn't hard you just have to read and look at her power points, also check out quizlet for you weekly quizzes!
This class was hard! Be sure to watch the lecture videos from blackboard at least a week before the exam! She gives a small reviews throughout the videos, and you have to make SURE you know EVERYTHING from those little review clips! Explaining the material out loud helps. Be able to tell when you don't know/understand the material
I enjoyed my online Cell Bio class with Dr. Hudson. Simply watch her lecture videos, take notes, and study the notes for exams. All exam questions come directly from her lectures, so note everything. She is willing to work with you and your schedule. Labs are a bit more difficult and include intricate concept maps, presentations, and one essay.
Great professor! print out notes and quizzes and discuss with lab group about the lab assignments! watch her lectures they are important
Watch the lectures, write detailed notes, read the chapters, print out the quizzes after you take them and most importantly STUDY... we can use outside sources for quizzes but not EXAMS!!! (they secretly) watch you take the exam so don't cheat
Dr Hudson genuinely cares about her students. If you put in the work, she gives a more than fair grade. She also gave bonus point options on all the exams. Very clear in her instructions and caring. High recommend.
Yes, you have to study. Yes, you have to read. For anyone pursuing a science degree who didn't already know this, you might want to reconsider your major. I guarantee you, all of the bad reviews here were left by people who have NEVER opened a textbook in their life.
This was the best way to take the biology class for me anyway, easy test and if you take her for the lab also easy. Take her if you need a biol credit!
Lecture and Lab taken online. So easy to talk to her through email. TA may be confusing or unhelpful. I just went to Dr. Hudson for everything on both. So helpful. Made a science online class so easy. Timelines are very realistic
The class was not too bad. She gives good PowerPoint and video lectures to follow along. Test are Proctored using Respondus LockDown Browser but no camera recording. Test are very tight on time limits !! Weekly Chapter assignments & then Lab each week as well. A few Lab assignments are done in Groups so you hope for a good group.
The TA was not a good grader and gave 0's for small things.
Dr. Hudson loves biology no doubt. She videos herself lecturing for you to listen to which is super cute. You can pretty much pass this class with quizlet. The exams you have to use respondus lockdown with and you only have 50 min to take a 52 question exam but if you get another computer and look the questions up fast you will do fine.
Great class, just be ready to work 4 major test 50 questions 50 min,16 quizzes, 13 labs, lots to work on but open from day work at your own pace with few hard deadlines . Was a bunch of work.
Dr. Hudson is a good professor. She wants you to understand the material but I took her online lecture and her video lectures are LONG. You have to study figures and the only grades in her class are the 4 test grades and lab grade. If you don't study or the know the figures and all the details, you wont pass.
To make an A this is what I did, I had to watch the lecture videos at least twice (usually 3x)while looking at the FIGURES-they are impt! each chapter of lecture videos can be about 1 hr to 2 hrs. So I literally would study it for maybe 6 -8 hours total the weekend and days before. And thats after I already watched the video once and took notes.
Took Dr. Hudson for Intro Cell Biology, online. The exams were on campus. I noticed some of the questions on the exams required understanding of concepts presented in lecture/textbook, not just rote memorization. You will work for your grade but she is a very fair professor. Gives good feedback, too.
Easy online class! Yes their is many labs and many assignments but she gives you the list of due dates at the beginning of the semester so you get a chance to stay ahead. She does put you in groups for 4 labs so hopefully you get good group members and not lazy ones. Highly recommend you to take this class, if you do your work you will get an A.
Mrs. Hudson is a great! I took this class online Summer I and it was easy. Yes there is a Lab for this course but as long as you get 120/200 you'll pass the course, most of the assignments are time consuming but not hard at all, test are NOT proctored but are Lockdown. If you do the work and pass the exams it's an easy A
I took this course online because of my job and being unable to go in for class. This class has 13 lab exercises and exams are on Respondus Lockdown. Not only are their 13 labs but 5 are group labs (which is exactly as hard as it sounds.) This course requires a ton of work so I hope you have literally nothing else to do. Very complicated.
I absolutely hate science. However, this class was super easy. You do have group labs which suck when your lab partners dont communicate but she does not hold that against you and will allow you to work solo. Lab videos are helpful. 13 labs, 4 test, and chp quizzes. Wish i could pick her again for another science class. She made it easy for me.
Was a very easy class. Class work avail. before the semester started & stated this was a work at your own pace class. Weeks into the semester she deletes everyones test grades and says we have to retake them. She gave no explanation as to why. Originally not proctored, we had take them with video and audio recording. A bunch of time wasted studying
Dr. Hudson is great. She opened all the material for us we can work at our own pace. She has video lectures for each chapter and uses older editions of books to save money. Any negative review from this course is from people who didn't want to put the time in to learn the material. There is a lot of reading but interesting. Wonderful Professor!
I took this class online and i've never met a professor so unwilling to help. She DOES proctor and record your exams and if you look away while testing you WILL be getting a zero. The material isn't hard but required lots of time. Deleted test grades after she opened the class early and people finished the course... if you love yourself at all, RUN
Lots of reading, and assignments, stay on track and you'll do fine. The class switched to protored test because people were cheating. I never had a problem with her though. She will make you work for your A. She's knowledgeable and if you help yourself, she'll help you. People who don't like her expect professors to cater to them and dont work hard
4 proctored exams, no comprehensive final. You need the textbook, you won't pass without it. Some group labs, nothing too difficult, BUT you have to earn your grade in this class. It is not a blow off and it very time consuming.
I took her online cell biology test. She posts lecture videos online which help with studing and gives you which figures in the book that you have to know, but it is ALOT of info. Exams are proctored. Tests are HARD with a lot of specific information. I wound up failing and withdrew before the deadline. Lab was a lot of work but not too hard.
Posts lecture videos, each test has about 6hrs of material on it. Memorize her lectures and figures all 300+ of them or you will fail. Recorded labs. Her averages on all the exams this far have been in the 50s. I took her last semester and ended up dropping. Unless she curves, I dont know how anyone passes. These reviews are lies. Bye GPA.
Although I struggle with Science, Dr. Hudson was kind and compassionate and patient. She will work with you if you're struggling and offers creative labs to help you grasp the subject matter. Would take her class again.
Dr. Hudson is great. Don't expect an easy class. 4 exams, no cumulative final. 13 labs for of which are group labs. 4 lecture assignments amd quizzes after most chapters. You'll read a lot but if you do you'll pass
DO NOT TAKE!!! Dr. Hudson originally opened up work at own pace course. A lot of students took advantage and got a lot done. She then wiped all grades and made students start from scratch. Required audio and video monitored exams even though webcam was not an original requirement. Gave no regard to those W/ hardship due to COVID-19. DO NOT TAKE!!
took her for online contemporary biology , hardest class ive taken in my life. professor was very inconsiderate. did not care about the students. required a webcam , couldnt wear hoodies or look anywhere but the screen for test! had to be in a room alone. did not make anything easier even after COVID-19. she was really inconsiderate and harsh.
Terrible teacher, worse exams. I have over a 3.7 GPA with a science major, but got a C in her class. The class load is excessive. Class average was in the 50s. No extra credit. No curves. Tests only. No help, only tells you to "study harder." She basically expects you to know what she knows, even though she has a PhD and we're undergrads. Run.
Work load heavy but doable. Had issues with the professor, she didn't seem to like that students finished her class early despite opening the class over winter break. Rules kept changing like adding a webcam after she said we didn't need one this was throughout the entire semester. Tests are hard she will only say to "study harder". No study guide.
Ignor the bad reviews from people who didn't like working for their grade. Do the works and you'll be fine.
I had no problem with Dr. Hudson. I thought she was a wonderful Professor. Anyone giving her a bad rating for the class didn't want to put the work in to get an A. Do the work and you'll get an A
Girl.. GIRL. The amount of work in this class is triple that of my other classes. Were all having a bad time. She knows its a science class for nonmajors and that that normally means easy A and she makes it as confusing and difficult as possible. Almost the whole class failed the first exam. The only thing keeping me going is that Im paying.
Professor Hudson is a good person, but a horrible professor. She knows her tests are extremely hard and everyone fails them, but she still keeps them the same. She gives literally no extra credit. I am usually a straight-A student and I'm not even sure I'm going to pass this class. I did all of the work and studied so much. It was extremely hard.
Great professor, replies very quickly to emails. The class is hard because for it to be for conscience majors its a lot of specifics you have to know. Exams are all taken using responds webcam. The labs are really easy, I recommend asking her to be alone instead of with a group for labs. All assignments are open, so I love that.
Hard class
Hudson grades very hard, 50 questions on every test. She tells you what chapters the exams are over and what labs are on them, but if you only follow the lecture then you'll fail. Read the textbook! Most of the exam is over bolded and italic terms in the book. She may say during a lecture what the exam will cover but not always. Be cautious here!
This Professor is AWFUL! She expects you to remember hundreds of pages of information from the chapters for one exam no notes allowed! Respondus and webcam required and she takes off for the slightest look aways!!! She considers everything to be academic dishonesty! She had one semester class cheat and now she makes it her class miserable
This professor would give out exams over multiple chapters at a time and if you do not study for them you will not pass the exam. All of the labs are fairly easy but take time so do not wait until the last minute. If you watch the lecture videos and reread the powerpoints she gives out A LOT of information that is not all on the exams.
She leaves info out of her lectures to make your life harder, so you have to memorize the book. She watches every respondus video and gave many students zeros for cheating when they didnt (this happened to me). There was too much info so I learned nothing. Just save yourself the stress and take a different professor. Its not worth it.
I really enjoyed this class. A lot of people thought it was hard. I never looked at the power points but if you simply read the chapters and watch her lecture videos, you'll get good grades on the exams. She's quirky in the videos and responds to emails quickly. I would 100% take her again, I thought she was a great professor. READ THE CHAPTERS.
She cares! Responds to emails fast, and will work with you if you have life problems. I would ignore negative reviews about her being inconsiderate, not the case here. Just one of the hardest classes I have taken when it comes to course loads.
Took BIOL 1408 Spring 2021. For the class portion, you will have lecture assignments throughout the course, quizzes after most chapters, and exams after every four chapters. Exams are proctored. The lab had an assignment due pretty much every week. Did not like group labs. I took this class online and it was a challenge for sure.
If you have the option to not take her DON'T! For this to be a class for non-science majors she makes the content extra hard, and expects you to know too much information on the exams. Speaking of the exams, she has nothing to do with her life but to watch every single respondus video, and she gives you a zero for barely even looking away.
If I could rate her a 0 I would. DO NOT TAKE HER. Your gpa will thank you.
She is a good professor, but the class is hard. You have to study to get a good grade.
I would rather drink a jean jacket through a straw than take Dr Hudson again. The only grades are 4 tests, including the final exam, and they are insanely difficult. She is not interested in making things easier for the students. The first test, the average was in the 30s. She did not curve. Any other professor is a better option, trust me.
If youre not a BIO major, do not take this class with her. If youre contemplating taking this class during the summer at lonestar or something Id highly recommend it. No extra credit. Tests are extremely difficult is youre not reading the textbook and lectures. Good luck scientists.
I would rather dive into a pool of fire doing the butterfly stroke than take this class again. There are no study guides for exams and the exam pulls from a test bank which means you could get questions from chapters she hasnt had us MEMORIZE yet. Good luck if you take this class. Youll need it. I bet the class average is around a 40 right now.
Honestly, the hardest thing I have ever done in my whole life - and that includes immigrating from another country. I'd rather eat a sack of glass shards than to have her as my professor again. There are no study guides for these hell tests, no extra credit, and if you ask for more guidance, all you get is "study harder".
Avoid this professor at all costs. This is a class for non-bio majors... or so it says. First thing she says in all videos is "hello scientists". Tests are randomized and proctored with no study guides. I think out of the almost 200 of us, maybe 50 are passing.
GREAT PROFESSOR BUT... exam HEAVY! Would not take this class again because I have a hard time on exams and they are weighted hard for this class. Even if you pass every other assignment with flying colors, if you do not do well on the exams you will fail the class. Get ready to read read read and STUDY STUDY STUDYYYYYY!
If you can avoid this professor, do it. She thinks you're a scientist and should know everything going into the class. Read and remember the entire book if you want to pass. Just do everything you can to avoid this professor.
She’s a bad professor she looks at each proctored exam to make sure you’re not cheating and if you don’t show your environment right or look away for a second she will make a big deal, and her lectures on each chapter aren’t even on the exams, very few pass them. You think you studied enough then exam has nothing you studied
Professor Hudson's class is mainly focused on Lab as well as Exams. The labs are more or less busy work along with the lecture assignments. The exams though are never based on the powerpoints or lectures. The questions are pulled from other sources. You can study as hard as you want, but you will still fail.
Exams were hard and get ready to study hard. Barely passed would not take again
This professor was extremely hard, and gives the most detailed exam questions that aren't even a part of the lecture. She graded unnecessarily hard on our term projects and encouraged us to ask questions, then when I did and actually proved multiple opposing points she never responded. This professor designed this course for you to fail, period.
the lecture is kinda boring but she posts lecture slides on blackboards so you don't even have to go. but there are 4 tests and a couple of chapter quizzes and 2 lecture assignments
she has a very lecture-heavy class with multiple pop quizzes. she calls out students for being on their phones as if they don't pay to be there. she grades tough and doesn't care about others' personal life. I missed a pop quiz due to being sick (I had a dr note) and she did not let me redo it.
This course online is HARD and the lecture is a lot and which I feel like she could specify on what we need to study for the exams. When you ask her what you need to study, she just simply responds to go over the slides/notes, read the chapters and STUDY! The tests are HEAVY!!! Which that doesn't helped me to be more prepared for the exams.
Dr. Hudson is very understanding, kind and funny in her lectures. The labs, quizzes and lecture assignments are not difficult. Even the readings are manageable. However, the exams are incredibly difficult. I read every chapter, took vigorous notes and listened to the lecture and still failed the majority of exams.
Dr. Hudson was a decent professor. She allowed a one week grace period for all her tests (excluding the final) which allowed you extra time to study if needed. I say you could even pass the class without studying for a single test as long as you finished all labs and other assignments on time. I can say did not learn anything but I passed.
I was under the impression that there would be a more in-depth explanation of what it would be that we were going to learn. Instead, Professor Hudson acted and treated the class as if we already had a solid understanding of Biology, I am someone who tends to forget things. I was hoping for a refresher, but I instead got a rambling professor.
This professor gives you 4 exams, online quizzes in blackboard, 2 projects, and random pop quizzes. Attendance is not mandatory but you are advised to go since she gives random pop quizzes that can not be made up. In lecture she goes slides over slides that are posted in blackboard. Her test are hard and not open note the test goes over 4 chapters.
Hudson is very unreliable, takes very long to respond back to you also lacks compassion for her students. The quizzes are easy the exams and lecture assignments are pretty hard. She does no extra credit and is set in stone about that. If taking a lot of classes I would not take this on top of those you have to dedicate a lot of time to this course.
Test information is not provided in lecture notes. Online test are impossible to pass with unnecessary points taken off for false reasons. Does not answer emails. Would not recommend.
she gives no room for leniency and is very annoying
Honestly, the class wasn't too bad. The instructions are super confusing, and the tests are hard. Most of my class failed every exam, which the professor knows and doesn't change her curriculum to better help students that don't major in science. I'll rate this class a 2.5/5.If you can change professors, please do!!
The professor is awful. As a straight-A student, I found this course very hard. Get ready to ready to a lot. Also uses respondus browser and freaks out if you do not very clearly show the environment. Class average was probably around 50 on exams, but she insisted that a lot of us cheated. In general, do not take and avoid at all costs.
Lazy. She has 30min lecture going over the chapter. A terrible powerpoint with no info Then the exam is over 4 chapters, lockdown required, not open book, and expects you to memorize everything. When emailed she flat out refuses to be a teacher.
-textbook is essential -lecture videos are missing a lot of information -exams were hard, no study guide -each unit had over 125 concepts to understand but only 1/3 of them are on the exam. She wants you to study everything. -also took her lab which had group and individual labs. I didn't like working in a group. -spent 25+ hours on each unit
Only take this professor if you have more than enough time. There is a lot of course work and readings. The exams are extremely difficult.
I took this as a summer court and her course was laid out in a way that was very easy to follow and I found it easy to know what was due when and didn't miss any assignments, however, this was a very difficult class with excessive reading, groupwork, and many assignments for both lab and lecture. She was easy to reach and not a difficult grader.
A masterclass in how to rip off a university for a paycheck. Lectures recorded years ago and gave up halfway through the class telling us our only resource would now be the book. Multiple assignments due every week where the TA just gives you an A if you complete it. Pretty sure the tests were made for a different course outline or textbook.
This girl has trust issues! She thought that I cheated on my exams just because my computer had too much movement and did not have my audio on. Her exams don't come from the textbook so don't bother purchasing/renting the book. If you had to choose this class or wait another semester, I'd wait another semester. Shame on you Hudson, thinking chair
Professor Hudson's class is notoriously tough, but Unstuck study can be a helpful study tool alongside the required textbook. Expect a heavy workload and challenging exams, but engaging with the material can pay off.
If you look in any direction for a second or if you fail to perform an environment check, she'll give you a zero and she is not lenient in the slightest. If fact, she will wait until you completed every assignment in the course to turn your exam grades to 0 at the same time right at the end, not even giving you a chance to correct your behavior. 👎
Hudson, you were a naughty teacher this semester, Santa Claus won't bring you any gifts this year. Run from her class, not worth the extra pressure
Prof Hudson, you better stop being a naughty teacher if you want Santa Claus to bring you presents this year. New year = Renewed teacher. You need to be flexible with your students because you're being rough with your class, especially being a freshman class. Remember, Santa Claus is keeping an eye on you, if you misbehave, no gifts for you.
They lied when they said this course is for non-science majors. I just needed a science credit to graduate. She's so harsh with her grading and gives no leeway. She makes this course way harder than it needs to be. I would not recommend unless you absolutely have to. And for those of you that have no other choice, godspeed. I wish you luck.
im usually one that says “do the work and you'll pass”. this is one where you can do everything and still not pass. i have never taken a more confusing and frustrating class. no study guides, just read the textbook and hope you read something that is on the exam. no guidance and instructions were always confusing i regret signing up for this class
She takes herself far too seriously. The room scans are unnecessary. None of us are taking this class because we want to—we're taking it because we have to. Just give us the easy A and let us move on to the courses that matter. She'll even drop your grade to a 51 over a scan. She's costing this school money.
The class is lecture-heavy, but overall manageable. Quizziz isn't hard—just read the syllabus carefully. However, grading can feel strict at times, and if she doesn't like how you set up your environment or assignments, your score might be lower than expected.
This is the hardest person to get along with I have ever taken in 4 years. Syllabus has 3+ pages of rules for the lockdown browser and will dock you heavily if you break 1 rule, such as showing under the desk. Tests are impossible, and the online lab is an easy 100, and quizzes are open notes; the impossible tests are what make this class awful.
She's a gatekeeper. Don't take her classes. You will fail regardless. I had to withdraw from university to protect my 3.8 GPA because this woman is hell bent on failing people for the smallest reasons. She does not care that we're not Biology majors. She only cares about Joan Hudson. Don't take this class. You will regret it.
where do I start? she's just terrible do not take her class!
Her class is awful. Lecture is impossible, tests are unpassable, and lab REKs require a full room scan or she docks 50 points—so you either get a 0 or a 51. Weekly quizzes, tough assignments, zero grace for non-science majors. She calls everyone “scientists.” Do NOT take her. Oh and ZERO extra credit opportunity.
Never take this women ever! She is a very hard grader, doesnt give any type of help even if you have things that happen out of your control, and is way too strict for absolutey no reason. Absolutely one of the worst teachers I've ever taken.
Tests were the hardest part of the class - read the textbook side by side with the lectures/PowerPoints for better understanding. She's nice but gives ok advice when you reach out and just emphasizes how important the lectures are compared to the textbook. Lectures and quizzes are super easy - pretty much just participation so get them done.
