Confusing, kind of talks in circles
Nice guy. Pretty funny too. I enjoyed this class, and learned a good amount from him.
Very nice guy. Gives 8 quizzes, 2 short papers, and a final. Basically gives the answers to the quizzes right before you take them. You can be on Facebook the whole time and he won't care. Make sure you read the textbook and the cases in it. Very fair grader and make sure you participate in class.
only professor i would bother to rate. fantastic human being (kind, helpful), EASY quizzes (as long as you study notes and terms for around 30 minutes), and he has a unique sense of humor that makes learning business law material bearable. you're a fool if you don't chose him for bsl212.
awesome guy! love this proffesor..he is awesome ! very understanding and dedicated! defenitely reccomend him...will be taking him again!!!!!
He grades a little tough, but once you how he wants it written it becomes easy. He reviews before every quiz, but if you read and understand the book it is extremely easy. His powerpoints are corny sometimes but funny nevertheless.
Good dude. Great class. Everything is easy there are 2 papers a page each and i think 16 quizzes. all easy. Final is brutal. But you won't end up with less than a B unless you don't study. But overall fun class good dude.
Genuine professor who really tries to help out his students. He is extremely corny, but he always tries to be respectful, give out reviews if the class asks, etc. I didn't even take the prerequisites for the course and he told me to take the class and he would help me through it, and he really did!
Best BSL professor, he is extremely helpful. If i had to take any other BSL classes i would take them with him again!!
Prof. Martinez is superrrrr funny! He's one of the best prof. I've had. I loved this class, although you have to study sometimes a lot, this class is worth it, you learn so much! I would hands down take his class over any other prof. Watch out for the final exam, very challenging!!!
Mr. Evora is great very helpful. Quizzes will be hard only if you do not attend class. He will boost grade if you go to office hours. Lets you out of class early
I loved Professor Evora!! I went to his office hours before every quiz and always got an A. He is extremely helpful and nice. I would recommend him to anyone taking BSL212.
nice professor and interesting class. lots of cases to read and power points which make up most of the quizzes. not the easiest class but worth taking it with prof evora
Cool guy; teaching style was wayyyyyy all over the place. You are never fully sure what he is going to cover in class. Quizes are 60% of the grade, but not too hard. The MC is weird, but the free response was graded mainly as a participation grade. Not too hard to get an A, but if you need organization, this is NOT the class for you.
Awesome professor who listen and understands his students. Extremely interesting class. Loved the mock arbitration exercises!!!
If I remember correctly the course was like 6 quizzes and a final and also 2 papers on the same movie. Evora grades pretty easy compared to other professors for BSL212. You can get a lot of partial credit even if you didn't study too much for the quizzes. He's pretty straight-forward though and he gives great outlines for the chapters. Take him
Decent teacher overall. Read the book.
Not good, would not recommend. His lectures are all over the place it was so confusing!
Quiz every Friday but studied for them the day of for about 30 minutes to an hour each and did well. Easy grader on the two papers you do during the whole semester.
His lectures are clear and he will answer all your questions without it stopping the entire class. Very easy to take notes, he explains super well and if you study from what he taught in class, you're more than prepared. You can always refer to the textbook for more but I barely opened it. You can skip 2 quizzes and make it up on the exam.
Lectures are informative, clear, and precise. Take good notes and read chapters before class and course will be a breeze. Professor gives relevant examples which help you memorize important topics and information Take advantage of his office hours, where he is extremely helpful.
Great at explaining material! You can tell he enjoys the subject through his excitement while lecturing. Emphasizes what we "may" see on the quiz and provides helpful examples. No surprises on quizzes.
Professor Martinez is an amazing professor and a great person! Always willing to help and give advice. Read the book and pay attention in class and you should do well on the quizzes. Three quizzes and one group project which was interesting. He creates a positive learning environment and makes class really interesting. Would definitely take again.
He enjoys teaching. funny professor. He is the best
My favorite professor so far! He is very experienced and gives great and informative lectures. He really makes law understandable and applicable to life, which is interesting. Doesn't teach you anything useless and is straight to the point. very cool guy.
He is a very nice professor. He wants to see you excel. If you don't get anything, he's saying then he will give you multiple examples to make sure you understand the concept. The Survival Guide is beneficial for when those tough concepts that come up. Easy Grader. BSL is very interesting. I would definitely take again!
excellent teacher, he is on YOUR side and wants to see you succeed. Very approachable. added a business law minor because of him
Take this class! Evora is a really nice and funny guy. He talks about the cases like stories so his lectures are interesting and enjoyable and if you take notes on the outlines he makes in class, you really don't need to read the textbook (but you still need it for the cases). 6 quizzes, a short paper, group assignment, and cumulative final.
Professor Evora is a great professor. He is very easy; if you don't understand the criteria he will go through it until you comprehend. Very easy. Willing to help and definitely wants his students to succeed.
One of the best professors I have had at UM, he genuinely cares about you doing well and is so passionate about what he's teaching. The class is hard and you have to read the book for sure but he gives great examples to help explain things.
The sweetest, most caring professor ever. Always smiling and genuinely loves his job. As long as you put in your full effort, it is manageable to get an A. If you skip class, it will be extremely difficult to do well as the crucial information is in his lectures as opposed to the textbook (you only use the textbook to look at case studies).
Excellent professor that genuinely cares if youre learning. Teaches in simple terms, so that the class is easy to understand.
Love him. He makes a hard class easy. Course is based on quizzes, one paper, and a final exam based on the quizzes. Lots of writing but that's what this class is, despite the professor. Definitely go to his office hours, he loves when students do this. He doesn't take attendance but he knows when you're absent so don't skip! Never studied much :)
Amazing teacher, super nice and caring! He gives really clear outlines on the chapters, you don't even have to read information from the book! Also, there is no homework at all, all you have to do is study for the bi-weekly quizzes. He makes BSL212 less boring and difficult, take him!
Took his class in Spanish and it was amazing. He really wanted to bond with his students. If you had a question, he would respond it clearly. Most caring and incredible professor I've had at UM.
You get about 6 quizzes in the semester, one paper on a movie, and an exam. The quizzes are opened ended but if you pay attention in class and study, you will be fine.
Really good choice for 212. I wish I paid closer attention to his outlines during class because they are good for summarizing the whole chapter (important laws, concepts, cases) into a concise, easy to study thing. Really accessible, caring and going to his office hours (for quizzes and final) helps a lot. 6 quizzes and phat final, class par 10%
Great choice for 212. Doesn't usually take attendance but he knows when you're not there. He gives really good examples and explanations which are really helpful for the quizzes and finals. Overall really great prof that understands that not everyone wants to be a lawyer.
he is a really good proffesor. gives plenty of good examples and he is very organized. I would take him again for sure! You have to pay attention and go to class, but its worth it
Prof Evora is a great professor and really cares about his students. The course has 6 quizzes, a paper, and a final. The class overall is really tough, but he tries his best to outline the chapters and helps you understand cases from the book. Go to his office hours, because class can get confusing.
THE BEST! Take him for BSL 212 and you will not regret it. The Business Law material and class itself is difficult so the quizzes and final are hard, but he explains the material so well. Excellent teacher and genuinely has a passion for teaching. He is my favorite professor at UM. Life changing class. Take him and thank me later.
Prof Evora is awesome! His class is confusing at first and the material is overall challenging, however his outlines work well for studying. Make sure to ask questions and go to his office hours to understand the material. He genuinely cares about his students' success and knows the field really well!
The best!! BSL212 is definitely challenging but Prof. Martinez makes it interesting and exciting. He is always enthusiastic about everything and sometimes brings in food for class. Pay attention, participate, and study, and you will do well in this class. You are to work for it, but Prof. Martinez makes it fun for sure. he always answers questions
Prof. Evora is very knowledgeable and cares about the course material, however at least for this class his lectures were all over the place. It was hard to follow along and understand the abstract material. I didn't enjoy his teaching style, but ended up with a A in the class due to the open book quiz and final paper. Not the worst but not the best
Professor Evora is one of my favorite professors at the University of Miami. He is extremely passionate about both the subject matter and his students. The content is somewhat difficult, but he does an amazing job of teaching it. If you take good notes and study them, you will do very well.
Professor Martinez-Evora is a great professor! He really cares about teaching BSL and does his best to make complex ideas easy to understand. He is funny and wants to make sure you are prepared for the quizzes. Definitely take him if you have the chance you will learn a lot and the class is not too difficult if you put in the work.
Best Professor ever. Really awesome nice guy
Great Professor, explains everything for the test, if you show up to class, you'll do good.
One of my favorite professors this semester. He was caring and genuinely wanted his students to learn the material and succeed in his class. He would answer questions that students had, sometimes even going off on a side note, because he wanted to connect with his students and help them the best way he knew how. Would definitely take again!
I had Professor Martinez for the Fall 2020 semester, and he was great. I had some students in my class think it was difficult, but sincerely I think they weren't the brightest. Take this guy. Everything is open notes, he is entertaining, and you do not need to study for the quizzes. But really make sure to just take good notes & listen in class
Super genuine guy with only good intentions. The class is based off of notes and open note quizzes. Take good notes and youll do well in the class. The final was pretty hard but it was just an extended version of the typical quizzes. Would definitely take him again.
Great professor. Makes learning business law very interesting and fun. I strongly suggest taking him. His tests are very straight forward and as long as you pay attention in class.
THE BEST TEACHER EVER. He really does care about all of his students and you can feel it in his lectures. Sometimes lectures are hard to follow. His class takes time to understand because it is a different way of testing. His tests aren't too bad just pay attention and take good notes.
Awesome! The first quiz will be kind of hard as you get used to his teaching style. After you get it everything gets so easy. You learn and ton and the class is kept light-hearted and fun. One of my favorite Profs at UM!!!
He is a great professor. His lectures are interesting and he always tells jokes and tries to relate to his students. The quizzes are a bit confusing sometimes but he grades leniently and they are all open note. As long as you listen and take good notes you should get an A. The two projects are easy A's. I am taking him again next semester!
He actually teaches and is easy to understand even if you dont like the topic. As long as you go and take notes you will pass.
Professor Evora is one of the best professors I have ever had. He is nice and makes learning a difficult subject entertaining and clear by giving examples and real-life situations. One thing you should know is he doesn't give the best notes however notes can be made from the textbook easily.
Cool guy. Made a very dense subject super interesting to learn and actually had us engaged. The class can be a little tough to keep up with sometimes but Dr. Martinez really takes his time in answering any questions you have and won't move on until everyone understands. Really funny and quite the character. So grateful I took him for this course.
Professor Evora is my favorite BSL teacher at Miami. I took him for 212 and again for 412. He is kind and his lectures are very interesting. He prepares you well for the quizzes and drops the lowest one. There is one big group project (10-20 pg paper and presentation) in place of the final. I wish I could take him again!
Professor Evora was incredible, and probably the best teacher I've ever had, he brought so much energy to class and made business law understandable, comprehensible, and his lectures were extremely entertaining. A lot of people got bad grades on the first 2-3 quizzes, but if you know the rules and how to interpret them you will do fine.
Participation is really important and also the final project. Ask questions! He helps a lot with the final project and with the course overall. He really wants to help the students.
He is a very nice guy, but his teaching skills are not great. Everything that is important, he says in his lecture, and it's hard to pick up on it. He also grades quizzes very hard. You have to know literally everything from the chapter and write it down. Not a bad guy overall, but I personally wouldn't take him again.
Best professor I've had at UM if you need to take BSL get Evora.
Very personable guy who is always willing to help his students! He makes hard concepts easy to understand. Ask questions and participate!
Professor Martinez is kind and makes a lot of jokes. Lectures can be boring, but not all too often. The quizzes aren't too difficult but he uses particular language that can make the questions tricky. There is a final group project that takes a lot of time but is easy to do well on. Definitely not a very hard class for level 400.
I loved professor Evora! He had a very clear teaching style and was able to successfully simplify complex content. There are no surprises in this class and you can tell that he really cares about the success of his students.
Prof. Evora is great. He actually teaches you and explains things thoroughly instead of reading off of slides like a lot of other teachers. He makes jokes and is really kind. He wants to help you and it's clear he cares about his students. Quizzes can be a bit tough at first but you get used to the format quickly. Take him if you can!
Professor Evora is a good professor but an even better person. He always brought jokes to class and made the class interesting. I would say the course is hard in general but Professor Evora does a good job at using real life examples to explain things. Attendance is mandatory as nothing is really posted notes wise to follow along on.
One of my favorite professors that I have had at the University of Miami, as he truly cares about making sure that his students understand the material. His grading isn't harsh either, very understanding. W professor
Don't get me wrong, Evora is a caring, respectful, funny and good GUY. But, when it comes to teaching I don't understand how people think he is a good professor. His lectures are all over the place, and he doesn't explain things in a digestible major. Quizzes are open note, but very hard because the notes are from his confusing & messy lectures! :(
One of my least favorite professors I have ever had. Not because the class was hard or because he was a bad teacher, but because he made so many unfunny jokes during lectures that it totally ruined my interest in the course. If you want an easy business law class, this is perfect (all tests are open note). If you want to learn, pick something else.
Does not give clear deadlines and places all the blame on students who struggle.
A great BSL212 professor, goes through content in an understandable way, lots of practice questions, cares about students and makes class fun. Tests are a little subjective but he is fair.
Great professor. super available outside of class, quizzes are easy if you prepare and study. no final, only final paper and presentation.
Professor Martinez is such a nice guy! He is always joking around and bonding with his students. Also super accesible outside of class for whatever you need. His quizzes are kinda hard but if you prepare you'll do good.
Prof Evora is good. He's not amazing which is why I didn't give him a 5 but really no complaints. The only complaint I have is you gotta really pay attention because the lectures aren't really online so you'd have to study out of the book. BSL212 is just a hard class in general. Somewhat tough grader. Solid 4.5/5.
I'm not sure why this professor has good reviews. He is not a good lecturer and is very unclear. The grade is made up of 5 quizzes and a final which he grades completely subjectively. He is disorganized and frequently misses mentioning information important for the quizzes. I would not take him again.
what a g. only professor i rated cuz i love this man. 10/10 class and professor for slackers who want easy classes.
Professor Martinez-Evora is a fantastic man. This course is definitely very reading heavy, but as long as you can understand all the components of each chapter you'll be fine.
Professor Martinez-Evora is genuinely a nice guy, which is why his rating is so high, but I wouldn't take his class again. He constantly changes the syllabus and forgets to discuss information that will be on tests. Better profs in the BSL department to take
He is a very nice man and is super funny but his lectures are hard to follow at times. his notes are messy!! quizzes are straightforward and if you lock in a day before the quiz, you will be fine. be prepared to have a quiz almost every week tho. he takes attendance every class and it is a big part of ur grade. he is always willing to help students
Do not take ols
8 quizes each semester cumulative final amazing amazing teacher however all students show up every day
This professor was great; he clearly knew what he was talking about and made the course very easy to understand. All sections have a lot of quizzes (read the book, it will help), and some of them were easier than others. He's always interested in helping students; sometimes the content is hard (which is out of his control).
class has completely changed from previous semesters. No "tests" but your whole grade is 3 quizzes and a final. loves trick questions on mcqs, easy grader on written parts. Hes a nice guy but his teaching is everywhere and lacks organization. Loves to turn everything into a riddle and will never give you an actual direct answer
Business law here is honestly just a hard class in general but I really think he is the best professor to take. If u pay attention in class and actually go it's not bad at all. Just study a day before the quizzes and you'll be good. He definitely prepares well for the final which I know a lot of other professors didn't
Amazing prof. Very funny. 2 exams midterm primarily on 1 chapter and final is technically cumulative. We got a cheat sheet - you just need to ask for one. You watch Silicon Valley and do a discussion post once a week. Def not a typical BSL class but I really enjoyed it. Group memo that you later revise and presentation. Go to office hours 100%
