Class is interesting.Tests cover a lot of material.No study guides.

She is a very peppy and intersting teacher to have. She makes learing fun with her great attitude and extensive knowledge of the PR feild.

She communicates well, makes class interesting. Very helpful, just ask and she will help. Her tests are based solely on notes, don't really need the book. Just go to class and take notes and you'll make an A.

I wish she taught Case Studies - Joan is a cutie she won teacher of the year in AD/PR this year. If you freshmen are lucky enough to have her for intro, take advantage of it. She has worked in the field for 20 years. I loved her class.

Took her for both Copywriting & Ad/PR Campaigns. My favorite professor ever! She connects with her students and never puts thier ideas down, instead she plays off of them to create better projects. Seems anal but is not. She loves to teach and it shows. She teaches in a fun and humorous tone. She is a must take.

Took her class over the summer. Outgoing, understanding, fun teacher. Did not use +/- for summer class. Does not take attendance but gives out pop quizzes. Did not have to buy the book. Easy tests. I don't think she'll be teaching ADV3008 again, but if you're lucky enough, take McCain.

There are a million great things I can say about her, but all you need to know is that if you are an Ad/PR major you MUST take one of her classes before you graduate. Not only are her classes fun and inspiring, but she was by far my favorite and most influential professor in my time here at UCF. If you don't take her you are missing out!

If you've been around Ad/PR for a while, you've heard about Joan. She is quite possibly the best professor at UCF. She is so helpful and her teaching style is unique, a breath of fresh air. She motivates her students to do their best work. As long as you are respectful and try your best, you will succeed in her class.

She is an amazing professor!! I am more interested in PR and was nervous to take copywriting because I didn't think I would do well in this class or like it. After taking this class I can say that I learned so much from her and she was a great teacher who always made class interesting and fun! You must take her if you are an Ad/PR major.

I took her for copywriting. Honestly, just wow. What a great professor. She is so funny and passionate about the subject. She knows what she's doing, hence why she doesn't need a text book. If you actually want to learn, take her. She grades very fairly and is just awesome. Great class, loved it.

This is BY FAR the best professor at UCF. You won't need the text book if you attend all of her lectures and take good notes. She's super funny and keeps the class laughing the entire time. I learned so much about advertising because of her. She's a teacher you'll admire and respect, but you'll also want her to be your best friend.

I have never learned as much in a semester as easily and effectively than i have in this class with Joan. She is very verbal and doesn't use wordy PowerPoint, yet I still have a complete understanding of her course. By far the greatest teacher for any course I'm sure. Loved her lectures - engaging, fun, applicable, funny, and easy to follow. TAKE EVERY NOTE YOU CAN ON EVERYTHING SHE AND EVERY GUEST SPEAKER SAYS IN CLASS, definitely on exams. Assignments are few and far between, helpful, and easy as long as you complete them. Dr. McCain is VERY interested in the success of her students and will answer any ?'s.

Pop quizzes that are 15% of your grade, so you can skip class but do it carefully. Make sure you complete the study guide 100% before taking a test, then search through it using the test, and you'll do fine.

Love her!! Her passion on the subject really gets you excited each class about the lesson. Her study guides are very long with tests that are timed online, 25 questions in 25 minutes without being able to look back after you answer one question. That made it tough for me, but if you do the study guide and put in the work you will be fine

Extremely knowledgeable about advertising, and has a ton of experience in the field. Her classes are interesting and projects are simple. With that being said, this class is not easy. Do not take if you are looking to raise your gpa. In order to make even a B you will spend countless hours on the material.

Just do your work and you'll be fine. Buy the book online, type her notes, and search during the exams and you'll do well

Anyone who says she is a bad teacher does not know what he or she is talking about. Lecture-based class with powerpoints. Only 3 assignments and 4 quizzes, all online. Definitely take a lot of notes and use the textbook for the quizzes. This really is not a difficult class as long as you try.

The best professor I've ever had. I love going to class in the morning because she brightens up my day. Exams are hard, do your study guides early! Well worth it. I'm getting a B in the course but with her, it's worth it.

LOVE HER! She is so fun and enthusiastic about what she teaches. Just go to class and take notes and the tests are a breeze. The whole class is 4 tests 3 quizzes and 3 extremely easy projects (it will take you like 15 mins max to do each project). Take this class! Def one of the best professors i've had at UCF

JMac is an amazing professor. I'm never bored in her lectures plus the material is interesting. True, tests are hard, but if you study, you should be fine. Attendance is not mandatory but be careful when you decide to skip. There will be some pop quizzes which will help boost your grade. Projects are also fun. What a great class!

This is a very enjoyable class. Lectures are mandatory if you don't want to miss the quizzes. They're good points. Assignments are fun and easy. The tests though are ridiculous. There are a lot of really out there questions, but if you do the assignments and quizzes you can still pass. Great professor and class, horrible tests that "wont change."

Professor McCain was a very fun teacher. I thoroughly enjoyed her lectures and she never ceased to make them enjoyable. The tests aren't the easiest, but as everyone else says, look through the study guides and make sure to review content in the text. Also taking good notes in lecture will be of huge importance, so make sure to go to class!

She has an arsenal of corny jokes to keep lectures interesting, and she uses YouTube videos to provide examples of stuff from her lectures. Really fun class. Quizzes are in class and unannounced, so be there as much as you can. Tests are online and a breeze. Great professor!

Prof. McCain is amazing. Probably the best professor I've had in college so far. She's energetic and fun, and really knows how to keep the class interesting. Her expectations are clear from the start, there are 0 surprises. Your tests will make up the majority of your grade but if you use the study guide provided you'll pass.

The class itself is interesting. She is an interesting professor that is very passionate about teaching the subject. Lectures are engaging and fun. There are random pop quizzes and projects that are an easy boost. The tests are HORRIBLE though. Possibly the worst tests I have ever taken, not because they are hard, but the way they are formatted.

Great professor- makes material interesting and is guaranteed to make you laugh every single class. But for whatever reason she is very tricky on tests and quizzes, all are very few questions in a short amount of time which makes it difficult to get a high grade. Definitely need the book and have to work for your grade, but well worth it.

Loved the class and teacher BUT, her tests and quizzes are insane. For the tests, do the study guides bc they will help some. Take excellent notes on EVERYTHING She says in class...I'm serious, you'll thank me later. Study days before your test because they're so specific from the textbook and notes. All assignments are online.

Joan is the queen. A professor can usually never hold my attention, but in Joan's classes, time flies by. She is hilarious and theatrical. She is very clear and helpful and genuinely wants to see you succeed. Her passion is contagious and her assignments are fun. The tests can be a little tricky, but that is my only complaint. My favorite teacher and class by far, motivated me to get involved in the Ad/PR program. Loved going to lectures. Be careful though, the tests and quizzes can be tough if you don't study. Great Professor. Class is not easy but if you follow the study guides you'll be fine. If taken online, the audio lectures help a lot, they're about an hour each but worth it in my opinion. A lot of people find Mccain difficult because they didn't show up to her lectures and over 90% of what's on the test is in the lecture. Don't skip class and you'll be fine. I wrote down everything she emphasized in my notes and passed with B - little to no textbook use.

McCain is quite possibly the best professor I've ever had. Such an awesome, entertaining lady who knows her stuff and is super enthusiastic about advertising. Attendance isn't required but go to class as her lectures are hilarious and most of the test content comes from them. Hardly used the book. Tests are easy as long as you review your notes.

MUST attend class as she leaves out key words in the slides. But going to class is actually super entertaining, definitely the most fun I've had in a large lecture hall to date. That also being said, the exams are timed extremely short but are in no way difficult. Projects are cake.

Tests are heavily based on the lecture & book, study guides are long but as long as you do them you will get a good grade. very approachable and knowledgeable about the ad/pr major. During my whole college career, I've learned the most from this professor. She cares about the details and because of that you will get more out of this class than a grade. You will gain real experience and a true understanding of the field. This class gave me incredible notes, portfolio pieces and allowed me to discover my strengths as a creative.

Joan is one of the best prof's I've ever had. This class is very simple, but you have to work for it and pay attention to do well. It's not hard. There is a mid term and a final on Webcourses. If you don't study, they will kick your butt. There's a cumulative, independent oyster project and a final ad campaign that's done with a group.

She's the best. Hands down. They should give her a raise. The projects are east A's and fun to do. There 3 five question quizzes and she drops your lowest quiz and lowest exam grade. Most of us skipped the final. She is hilarious and makes advertising seem like the greatest thing in the world. We didn't miss class because she made them fun.

Prof. McCain is such an amazing teacher. It is obvious that she is passionate about what she teaches and she passes that excitement on to the lectures. I wish she offered more classes because I would take every single one. The only thing I dislike is her grading scale. Your grade can only go down from the moment you start the course which I hate.

This is the best teacher at UCF hands down. I had a 8am class with her and I of course was tired but boy she kept me up and interested the whole class period. She is so smart, is passionate about advertising, and gives amazing lectures. She is super nice and easy to talk to. The tests are no joke, but take notes and you will be fine.

Difficult to retain info in an online format. Definitely would benefit from taking the class in person. Incredibly easy to get in contact with & always gives encouraging & honest feedback. Grading is done out of 100 total pts (ex: tests are 25 pts, projects 25 pts), difficult to raise grade significantly, drops lowest test score (can skip final!)

I love going to this class everyday. Joan McCain is someone who truly loves her job and just wants us to love our future ones too. She is so genuinely excited for each lecture that its hard to not be excited listening to her. She makes herself available as much as possible and I feel that she is a blessing to my education.

While the grading is tough, McCain makes every lecture fun and interesting. I wouldnt miss a single lecture because even some of her jokes can show up on quizzes and exams. Either way, she is memorable and genuinely interested in the topic which couldnt make her an even better professor.

One of the most interesting classes at UCF. Don't buy the book, just study the lecture notes well and you'll do fine! Answers to quizzes are NOT online, so don't bother. Seriously, just pay attention to the lecture notes. I copied and pasted the PPT notes into word, bolded and highlighted terms, & printed them out to study. Great prof, great class!

Took this class during the summer and it was super simple! Read the online lecture notes and follow the project guidelines and you should get a good grade. It was a fun class to make projects for and the prof provides good feedback on your designs. Would take again!

Besides the 67 and 27 plus power point slides this class wasn't that bad. There is only three projects which are not that hard. The test are only 20 questions make sure you take good notes and use the study guides.

I very much enjoyed the class and learning new things but the exams were uhh, yeah they were pretty difficult. Id definitely recommend the study guides and studying ahead of time. Luckily she drops the lowest test grade but still, theyre no joke! The projects were really fun to do and she has great lecture notes!

The examples she shows in class are great, pay attention to them since they're on the tests. Don't bother looking up test questions on quizlet. Uses her own test bank, not too hard if you study and take good notes.

Took this class in the beginning thinking it would be an easy A, fair warning it is not. I got a B and had to work for it. This class had less assignments than I am used to, which is why I found it challenging. Joan Mccain is great and actually cares about how we do and gives great feedback. Apart from studying you have to really listen to what she is saying because it will be on the test. She does 4 test and drops lowest grade. Very few assignments. Okay, so I loved her, but her course is tricky. The tests are tricky, they're hit and miss- the quizzes aren't as bad. Having only one minute to answer each question on the test is a bit scary if you have anxiety like me! But, you will do okay if you prepare. She cares about her students and wants them to succeed! Also, the projects are super fun:)

She was an overall great teacher. With COVID, she was pretty understanding. I am not an adv/pr major, far from it... If you are looking for easy A, look somewhere else. Overall though she is so sweet!

Joan McCain is a great professor! She made my online class very manageable, and I wish I could have taken this in person. She seemed so funny and kind whenever we got to Zoom call. Just be sure you read the lectures and take notes, they're done really well. Tests are usually 4-6 questions, with 4-6 minutes so be prepared for that.

She's a really nice professor, and has set up her class really nicely, but definitely study hard! Her quizzes were 4 questions and not too bad, but her tests were definitely harder. It was easy to get into a routine with her material, but you gotta work for your grade

Love the teacher, very helpful in office hours and responds quickly to emails. Lectures are lengthy but usually shes pretty funny and outgoing. The only downside is this class is basically graded based on quizzes and tests and the quizzes are only 4 questions so my quiz scores ranged between a 75-100 and this brought my grade down. Tests are ok

Professor McCain gives super interesting lectures and is so funny and really enjoys the material she teaches and it shows. Her class is very structured and you have 4 tests and 3 quizzes, your lowest quiz is dropped along with the lowest test and you have 3 assignments. It is a good bit of studying but as long as you show up to class you'll pass!

Great professor, class is very engaging. The lectures are long and there is lots of information crammed in, but the notes come in handy around test time. The tests are probably the worst part of the class. You don't get much time on them and they are very specific to the notes or details in the textbook. If you aren't a good test taker then pass

Love this professor! Her passion for advertising rubs off on you. You are mostly graded on the quizzes and tests. The tests can seem hard but I took a lot of notes with everything she said in the lectures and looking at my notes I had no problem. So it is important to show up to class! She does talk fast though so I recommend recording the lectures

Professor McCain is a literal QUEEN!!! She is super knowledgeable in her field and gives great examples. Her lectures are great and it's important to go to class with her because half of the material from the test comes from the lecture so take good notes. Do the study guides for the 3 tests and you'll pass. Only gives 3 homework and quizzes.

I loved Mrs. McCain's class. Her lectures are really engaging and fun. She starts every course with an example of an Ad and then will explain what makes it effective and some of the strategies that are utilized. Attendance is important if you want a good grade. A few exam questions are taken from the textbook but you can survive without it.

Professor McCain is amazing and if you ever have the chance to take her, you should! The class relied heavily on lectures and some textbook reading, but as long as you study those two things for your exams you're fine. Three small creative projects, and no homework :)
