very helpful and kind ... she focuses her time for your problem

nice and got a sense of humour and teaches material superbly

Basically, don't be fooled by this teacher. She gives "extremely" easy assignments and quizzes. However, the tests she gives are relatively more difficult than the "mock" tests she handed out. Other than that, she's good instructor.
she gives us easy assignments and quizzes, but the exam are more difficult. however, she is a good instructor since she is helpful.
well organized.. good notes.. easy assignments & quzzes :) exams are a little challenging thou.. (compared with her quizzes & assignments) read your text & study the notes, and you'll get an A!!
not bad. clear lectures. really have to study tho not an easy A
notes are clear, quiz and assignments are ezy... but midterms are hard. don't b fool by those quiz and assignments... u can get full mark on it..but midterm is totally opposite.
Solid teacher, fairly hard. Willing to answer questions.
If you value your GPA, DON'T TAKE HER... Gives super easy quizzes and assignments... But her midterms are totally opposite... You'll hate her at the end of the course... NOT RECOMMENDED
A self-centered, unhelpful professor who doesn't explain concepts in a manner in which students can understand. Thinks that the material is easier than it is. She seems to be more concerned about her paycheque than about the learning of her students.
In the lecture, she explains everything clearly. Quizs and assignments aren't too hard But somehow the Midterms are crazily hard. I guess she wants us think deeply; not just basic concepts.
She knows her stuff, and can talk about the subject (at least in this beginner course) from many different aspects. I liked the class and found it to be a pretty easy course anyways. She teaches right out of the text.
Very nice teacher. Easy to get an A. Midterms are easy. Those who said it was hard because you didn't study at all. Overall, good teacher!
good notes...other than doing her weekly homework, you don't even have to read the book. tests are not that hard. end class early most of the time. Recommanded...
A GOOD teacher that loves her job and will help you if you need it. shes fair
easy assignments and quizes, but hard mid-terms. very hard marker!!
shes the most up to date realistic econ prof, shes not blabber, just read each chapter before class and pay attention to her examples (there on the tests), easy B if not A. god teaching style, not too hard, not too easy
she is better then all other econ teachers...if possible take her.. you'll Econ.
Great teacher, very knowledgeable. Doesn't fall for the suck ups and try hards, very fair to all students. Teaches well, great notes and very interesting course.
I like how there's some people in her class that think they know more than a person with an economics degree. Ahahahahha.
She makes econ understandable, with great notes, activities, and assignments. not a b/s teacher, if you want to learn n learn well take her
You'll understand wut she teaches. Interesting class. She's a great teacher. I'd recommend her.
she is a good prof! makes things easy to understand and doesn't make class too boring. and she is nice and always can help you if u have any questions!
the best prof!!! too bad she's not teaching many courses. i'd definitely take her course again. an easy gpa booster. strongly recommended!!!
shes absolutley awsome
you can tell she really knows/loves her econ and is well prep'ed for classes. lectures are interesting enough. however the midterms are killer if you don't study like mad. a teeny bit of a stingy marker. DON'T FOREGET TO LABEL GRAPHS!
What can I say? She's helpful and a good Econ instructor. There are assignments you hand in throughout the course. There are 2 or 3 quizzes throughout the semester (each quiz has 15 MC Questions). There's 2 midterms and a final. In my class, she gave us an extra quiz that counted for bonus marks.
wat a amazing professor.started lovin econ jus because of her.very helpful and teaches u economics as it is in the real world.quizzes super easy, mid terms little hard. u must b crazy if u dont want to take her.
She's a good teacher. Tests are really hard but you can gain back points with the assignments and quizzes. Study hard!
Joan is a great teacher. She is very fair with regards to assignments and in class work. Quizzes aren't too bad, but midterms were pretty hard. The secret to economics, which I learned the hard way: keep up to date with the reading before class, and you must do well at the start of the year, because the class gets complicated towards the end!!
Its a very hard course but Joan's teaching style makes it possible to do well in this class. Keep up to date with readings and review a lot on your own time in order to succeed. Midterms are killers make sure to study.
She is an awesome teacher, she knows the material she is teaching and is always willing you help you during her office ours if you don't understand. Doing the weekly assignments is a great way to learn and get marks. Study hard for the mid-terms and make sure you understand everything at the begining b/c it becomes harder near the end. Great clas
She teaches a lot, and finishes class early once a week...I guess she hates teaching... cos she is impatient to wait for students...and midterms are kinda hard...damn hard....she is not willing to tell you what the question asks during exam if you are unsure about the questions..you have to guess...well..won't take her anymore..GPA killer...damn it
She is such a great professor and explains well BUT! Her midterm tests will kill u!!! i read chapters before class but ultimately droped her class !
her midterms will kill you, she makes the easy course very hard,if possible, dont take her
This is the first time she teach in Richmond, and I had very good impresson in the class.
She is one of the best economics teachers. I read the whole text bookdid , did all the quizzes on the textbook website and all the homework she gave. I got an A in her class and really understand macreconomics.
Not a good teacher. She marks hard on homework assignments and exams! Do not take Econ with her...take it with Nancy Clegg <--- Best teacher!!
everything we need to know is taught in class
GREAT TEACHER, AND HER CLASS IS EASY AND WELL PREPARED. SECOND MIDTERM IS HARD, BUT YOU COULD GAIN EXTRA MARKS ON THE FIRST AND FINAL. AS LONG AS U HAVE STUDIES, A- GUARANTEED
best teacher i've ever had, super nice, VERY clear and easy to understand notes, midterm questions are all from notes and the assignments. she is extreamly organized also.
I love this teacher!! She's really nice and her notes are very clear. I slacked off in the beginning but did really well on the final. So make sure you dont slack off and you'll get an A andd REALLY understand Economics. I'd take every econ class with her if I could. Too bad she doesn't teach during the spring semester :(
Her notes are clear, but she expects you to know the material for each chapter before coming to class.I found coming ot her class was a waste and reading the textbook alone was sufficient. Her marking on the midterms is hard. She wants precise asnwers. I would not recommend her to anyone. macro is more difficult than micro so take it with some1 else
very clear and organized! no surprises go through ur notes and attend class and the midterm wont be that hard
she's well organized
well organized, but to hard!!!!! midterms exams really hard!!!
very hard teacher. Uses note there is no need to buy a textbook. Everything is from her note. Notes are confusing and does not stay on one topic. Skips a lot.
hard teacher, i failed my first midterm by 1 mark and dropped the class. Her test are hard and doesn't explain things and goes suppperrr fast. wouldn't recommend her at all.
She makes the class harder then it should be. Goes too quickly in the classroom examples and her explanations of theories isn't very good. I had to go to another prof to get help while studying for the midterm which I did pass, but not by a lot. I wouldn't recommend taking her.
easy quizzes. assignments can be fairly difficult. midterms are KILLER. be prepared to understand macroeconomics inside and out.. some questions on exams aren't really shown in class, so it wasn't pleasant. oh and she doesn't curve marks.. even if 90% of the class got a D average. gpa killer. but interesting course
GREAT TEACHER. Economics is not an easy subject and you cannot blame the teacher for that. Joan is very clear on what she expects from the studesnt and the tests and quizes are fair. Her in class notes are the clearest of any prof at Kwan. and she is more than willing to help outside of class time. A+ is not impossible if you put the time in.
Super hard class if you are not interested in Econ to begin with. SUPER Fast-paced, and exteremely difficult exams...you will only get a decent grade if you study 24/7 and ask questions like crazy if you dont understand. You absolutely need to force yourself to study hard for this class since the classes themselves are exteremely borin and hard.
one of the best econ profs although her midterms are hell! With a decent amount of work it is easy to get a B in her class
I love this professor! Super nice, very clear and very fair. She drills everything you need to know into your head with in class practice and online labs - and then offers a ton more practice to make sure you've got it set. If you work for it with the materials she gives you, you will ace this course.
The teacher herself is a nice person, but you have to know basics before you take her class. If you are first timer, take econ 1101 or study twice as much outside the class. She is a straight forward teacher.
She made the class relatively difficult. I took notes from the book and also read her's but i stll suffer through the course all the way. I score high mark in any other class, but I barely passed the exams. Most of the student cant understand any her questions that she asked in class. Also,The classmates who sat beside me also failed the exam.
She's good. I've taken this course before and I didn't do very well, with another prof. In her course, she makes things clear and simple - more simple than I thought econ could sound. She uses lyryx, which is awesome. I'd reccomend.
Not good. Doesn't explain things very well and rushes through everything. Most of her exam questions are harder than what she goes over in class. If you take her, be prepared to study on your own and put in lots of hours. Not recommended.
DONT TAKE HER....if u do then be ready to study ur own.... she rushes through stuff very fast and doesnt explain properly....so much stuff to digest like its ridicoules...and tests are TOTALLY different than what she teaches...doesnt even make sense....no matter how hard u study, u r not getting any gud marks in this class....
No Comments. I totally agree with 2 bottom posts.
What a total waste of Money.
I got an A- in the class by studying hard. She is a great teacher and her tests are fair. She has great worksheets in class that make sure you know the material. You need to go to class to understand the types of questions she will want you to know. Take her class shes great!
I got an A- in the class by studying well. She is a great teacher and her tests are fair. Gives great worksheets in class that make sure you know the material. Make sure u go to class so u can understand the types of questions she wants you to know how to do. Great prof take her class.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS for managerial economics. She is hard, goes through material quickly, and is completely not understanding at all. She doesn't seem like she's passionate about teaching and I regret the day I took this class with her because although I love economics, she kills all passsion I have for the course.
Got an A in this class. Her tests are very application based, print out her powerpoints before class and study the worksheets she hands out. Don't waste time studying terminology, all the written parts of the tests are basically the worksheets with new numbers. Don't buy the textbook, we only used the lyryx code.
She is a great teacher, explains concepts well and gives a clear view of what to expect on exams. Extremely helpful, marks fair and willing to help outside class. In class handouts are very helpful and we rarely used textbook. Highly recommended!
Nice person, cares about students, explains clearly, draws on real life situations in relation to stuff being learned, understands concepts well enough to teach, funny -could use more humor to break the ice more maybe-,def one of better profs, too bad others werent like her more!
She expects students to write a long explanation for each graph she asks you to draw in the exams to give you full marks. Otherwise, you're screwed. Honestly, I don't have anything against her. She's just a hard marker and it felt like no matter how much effort you put into it, it's never going to be enough.
Joan is a great professor! She does a great job of teaching the concepts by using power point notes, overhead notes, and in-class activities (worksheets). It really makes it easy to do well because she has great notes and her worksheets are similar to exam content. She had fair exams/quizzes. If you study and do the assignments, you can do well.
Power points and in-class assignments are very interactive and they helped me learn quickly. Joan's lectures were always to the point and she based all of her exams on what she went over in class, no tricky questions or information you briefly touched on. Explains concepts very well.
Great Professor, approachable and helpful when you were stuck. overall clarity was concise and she was really nice. Gave lots of practice to help you obtain a good grade.
Definately recommend taking her! Great prof, easy class. Review all the notes and go to class!
Her lectures, notes, handouts, and online portion were so helpful. If you have to to 1150, definitely take her.
She is very moody and her lectures are so long and boring. The online econprotal she used was so messed up but overall, she's an okay professor.
Joan is awesome, she's not that much of a tough marker, the material is all in her notes and slides and examples. Do not expect a grade where you think you'll pass unless you do well in the first midterm and second. It's a lot of work and you better pay attention and practice practice practice. The marks are fairly divided so you have a chance! :)
Joan was a great prof. Her notes are awesome and she does everything in her power for her students to be successful. I took micro and macro with her because I knew how solid her teaching style was. Read the text before class and reprint and practice the in class handouts before exams. You will likely be successful.
I'm not strong at math so I struggled with formulas and graphs but I really enjoyed the concepts, decisions, and consequences in Microeconomics. Reading chapters, reviewing powerpoint slides and going over in-class problems are the best ways to study for midterms and exams!
Joan uses full class time but goes through material quickly, will not help, dry class.
Ms Joan's class is pretty simple and straight forward. Attend class, take notes, study and you should be cruising to an easy A. Test's and quizzes are pretty straight forward and she's not a tough grader at all. If you show interest and effort she would definitely help you out. Overall she's a nice person and if you put in the work, its an easy A!
Every class she has an organized powerpoint which makes understanding material much easier than just speaking & using the whiteboard. There are 3 short quizzes throughout the semester & 2 midterms so by doing homework, reviewing notes & reading the textbook should be straightforward and clear. Joan is a great prof and I would defs take her again!
A great teacher with very good knowledge of economics, encourages participation and discussion in class. Take notes in class!! I was attentive in class and prepared from the notes I made and the slides and got really good grades. And she is very cooperative with any help you may need.
she is one of the best professor, try to participate in the class discussions keep making notes from whatever she's teaching in the class. 3 quizzes (2 best quizzes count) , sapling online homework every week (multiple choice question you can take as many attempts you want) - use these to prepare for the quiz 2 midterms and final
AVOID TAKING HER CLASSES AT ALL COSTS. She goes through material quickly and is completely not understanding at all. ALSO, SHE IS MEAN!!!
She is great at explaining economics so anyone could understand it, and she wants to make sure that everyone who wants to learn does. She is accessible outside of class and really helps you learn.
stay away from this teacher , she is not fair and very rude, her grading criteria is not clear, she ignores you when you approach her after class, she has her favourite students . I would not recommend anyone to take her although she knows her stuff but her attitude matters,
Not a good prof, she is very rude and partial.
She is a good teacher. Sometimes goes too fast with the topic and class can get boring, otherwise covers everything in the subject. She is very helpful and polite.
She has a lot of resources to help students to understand the class material. She teaches student patiently, and clearly.
Joan is nice, but her teaching style is all over the map. It is hard to understand what she is saying about concepts as she knows what is talking about, but is unable to explain in simpler terms. It is unclear how to study for her tests and there are no resources except connect to study. Examples she does in class are so easy compared to test q.
This class has heavy material and someone who is not from an investments background would have a hard time understanding the concepts. To add to that, Joan explains concepts that confuse the student even more. I wish i never had to take this class and this prof. Do not recommend!
Probably the best instructor I've had at KPU so far. Simply showing up to her class and paying attention should get you a good enough mark. She teaches Macroeconomics in a way that makes the course a lot easier to grasp. If you have the chance to take her, DO NOT pass it up. Made the class a lot less harder than it could've been.
She knows the material well. Gives you the sample mid terms which are the same for the actual mid term. 10/10 would recommend
Had her back in summer 2019 and she was solid. Enjoyed her class a lot
Easy class.
Good prof. I would recommend her. The tests do get more challenging, but it is easy to pass.
Very easy class. Not a lot of work each week besides assignments which are easy and the powerpoint.
Probably one of the nicest profs out there in the KPU economics faculty. Joan shows a very caring demeanor and always ensures that her students succeed. Her content and assignments are very straightforward and are quite helpful in studying for the midterms/finals. Would definitely recommend other people in trying out her class.
I enjoyed taking this class with Joan, the material is easy to understand as long as you put the time in. With that being said this is a very time consuming course, 5-6 quizzes, weekly homework assignments, weekly readings and weekly discussion forums, 4 terms tests and a final. I wouldn't recommend taking if you already have a very full semester.
She is amazing Very caring and awesome marks giver
really easy and she's fun
Joan is a okay teacher. However, in my ECON1150 class this fall semester which was online she doesn't teach. Joan makes us buy the textbook and learn the course material on our own. She doesn't create any video lectures to help basically all my learning was through youtube. Which is challenging because all teachers have a different teaching method.
dont take her u will regret
heavy exams
