Would not recommend her, online group work can be difficult and u cant kick out non performers, if u get an A so do they, that was unfair. Tests are right out of the test bank use study guide and get an easy A.

Wow, what can I say... If you know her, then you would totally understand, and I wouldn't be here now... She has this thing, SOG, (Spelling, organization, grammar) which she marks so harshly on. Take a little advice from me, practice what you preach Joany
Tough but really cares about her students. If you want an easy course forget it. If you want to learn something and aren't a baby..go for it!

Heard she was bad, and this is very true. She tests on things we never go over in class, and makes questions that no one in the class can understand. DO NOT apply for her classes, thats my warning to you
gosh...hard marker on group assignments....tests are 100 MC & T/F...if u gotta study really hard, it's ok...
I really liked her and I thought the whole hippie vibe was pretty cool. I didn't study that much and got an "A", she was very clear about her expectations.
Very good lectures, very insightful,you learn to critically evaluate, not take everything in the media at face value. If you read the text book carefully and glance over your notes, you'll do great! You'll be able apply what you learn to the real world
Her lectures make no sense, and the group assignments are very unclear! Would not recommend her to anybody.
Online course is ok. Be sure you know how to write a critical analysis b/c 25% of your grade is based on it. If you are insightful and able to apply what you learn in the reading that week, its an easy 25%. Exams are VERY SPECIFIC-study the text!!!M/C T/F

I took the online course for her and it is bad! She wants you to do EVERYTHING in group assignments and if your group doesn't do the work, you don't get a mark. She is no good, seems like she is trying to create the least amount of work for herself.

I took her on-line course and she was not helpful at all. All assignments were group assignments and she want the assignments to be perfect. Her feedback is always negative even if your assignment has improved from the last one. The mid-term was easy though.
Joan, was excellent, I totally enjoyed the online course, She was fair in her grading. The exams were hard, but if you studied then you would do fine. I loved the course actually and looked forward to the work!!

Hard, manipulative, stringent applying of 'rules and regulations';inconsistent...avoid this class. One might get the impression she treats the students as if in they are still back in grade-school. Emphasis on the exact letter of the rules as opposed to why we're there..to learn content.
This teacher is the most unorganized, annoying teacher I have ever had! I never recieved the help I needed. This teacher changed her mind all the time and put things in tests that no on had seen before! Don't waste your money!
I dont know what to say about her. Midterm was a big waste of studying, nothing we studied was on there. Horribly unclear, very unorganized. Makes excuses and refuses to help students. Very condescending attitude towards students. Do NOT take this class. HUGE waste of money!!!!
She treated ppl like they were in high school. This class had 25% "participation" lol but its actually quite easy i'll give her that. You watch sooo many movies, but shes so disorganized and she does not know how to use a VCR. Too much group work, annoying/kinda mean teacher.Theres better out there.
DO NOT TAKE THIS LADY. She is only here to collect her paycheque and do as little work as she can. Her notes are direct copies from her manual, her tests are M/C, and the feed back she provides on assignments makes me wonder if she even reads them.

Joan is the worst teacher at Kwantlen. She's way too into critically analyizing EVERYTHING. She hates lecturing, and relies too much on newspaper articles. She makes sure you think you've answered her question wrong even if its right. Dont take her class ever, She should quit her day job!!
Horrible teacher. Her attitude towards the class was disrespectful, sometimes humiliating. I still think the things we learn in the course are important, but her lectures were not enjoyable at all because of her attitude.

Class lectures very boring, her notes on lectures old hard to read. 1midterm one final test material not from textbook or lecture .Whole class is bad and i dont recommend her at all. Only bright side of her class was her weekly quotes. Stay away from her classes if possible.
This teacher is seriously an idiot. She thinks this one course is the most important thing you will learn in post secondary education. She doesnt know how to teach. I was sick and had a doctors note which she did not accept on a 10% assignment. I have a 4.0 so I had to withdraw. My friend stayed in the class and got a C+ WITH EFFORT! & shes smart!
Taking this course online..she only shows up online 2 days a week, Mondays and Wednesdays. Our assignments are due on Wednesdays, so if you don't start on it until Thursday you have to wait until Monday to get an answer from her if you have any questions. Only marks one assignment (kinda lazy) and needs to let "critical thinking" have a bloody rest
What she lacks in ability to teach she makes up for as a hard marker. Her instructions are vague, she never has any answers and she's lazy. She should be teaching Philosophy. Don't ask "if you love critical thinking so much, why don't you marry it?" I thought it would be funny but it turns out critical thinking left her at the altar in 2003.
ONE MIDTERM WHICH IS ALL M/C, ONE FINAL, AND ONE GROUP PRESENTATION, SHE ALSO GIVES YOU THE CHANCE TO GRADE YOUR PARTICIPATION AND USUALLY SHE GIVES THE MARK YOU GAVE YOURSELF. BE SURE TO PAY ATTENTION. OVERALL CLASS WAS MEDIOCRE.

I don't understand what everyone's going on about here, but I think Joan's an awesome prof! She's always there to help, and her assignments are pretty straight forward. In terms of easiness, I wouldn't say she's easy, but she has a standard, and it's not all too hard to meet if you put in the effort. All in all, an awesome prof! Highly recommended!
I found Joan to be an excellent communicator, AND well familiar with the course content. The content is prescribed, so what's a person to do? Joan did the best she could with what she had to work with I think. I would do this again.

This is not an easy class - definately had to earn my good grade, but Joan is available to help if you ask. I think it's fair to say that you'll get out of the course what you put in!
Joan is hands down one of the best profs around! She does reply to emails, and her marking is fair. She sets up a forum for students to talk about weekly assignments..if you talk regularly in the forum, she gives a huge bonus mark at the end of the semester. I ended up with a B, but after the bonus i recieved an A-..Great Prof, easy course(s) :)
What a horrible teacher. I took her online, she made every excuse she could think of to get out of marking or getting back to students. Completely useless class, I even forgot I was taking it at one point. She says she doesnt watch television because she's an "intellectual," I bet you she doesnt watch because she cant figure out how to turn it on

Completely uninteresting, puts you into a coma, just being present. Puts 35% your mark o the line for participation and attendance, stupid assignments for which she changes the marking criteria at her own ease. Turned me off crim indefinitely. Avoid like the plague.
I had her for an online course. She sucks, to put it lightly. Everyone is right about her changing the criteria for the assignments AFTER she has marked them, and then she criticizes you for not following instructions. She's fabulous! ...SMILE.
I just finished CRIM 3104 with Dr. Nesbitt. She is one of the most fascinating and well organized instructor at Kwantlen Polytechinic University. Dr. Joan Nesbitt knows her subject matter well and is real passionate with her subject.She cares much more about her students than any instructor I have met at Kwantlen P/University.SMILE!
Took for crim 1100 online. Her expectations are incredably unclear at first. However, if you email her and ask questions and participate lots she'll help you out. Be sure to read everything she posts. She gets frustrated with students who repeatedly ask questions (about assignments and what not) that she has already posted answers too.
first she seemed like a fair teacher, but turned out to be horrible. no final or midterm which is the good part but her lectures lack interest. She needs to retire, horrible time hearing students and sometimes is very rude to others.
I just took her and I think that she was a great prof. For anyone who is going to take her, make sure that you are VERY clear on assignment instructions. If you follow her instructions you will get an A, I did. She is also huge on participation and group work. Read your text, participate, show up to class, or you'll fail.
Online class. She teaches NOTHING. Her "notes" are the ones the publisher puts out. She marks so easy, I got an A+ without an extreme amount of effort. You MUST nag her about the criteria for the project or she will claim you didn't follow instructions and ding you. I walked away from this class feeling like I didn't learn very much at all. Easy A.

What is wrong with some of you people?! What does how she looks have anything to do with her teaching abilities? She has good intentions, and tries really hard - but I find that she doesn't lecture much. Maybe its just the course. Its up to you to read the text on your own. No exams in the course which is awesome!!!
Whenever Joan would ask for feedback, if you give any type of criticism towards she wont accept it and will try and make you look wrong even though someone is trying to tell her how to improve teaching areas, such as clarity. That really frustrated me, please take into consideration we are your students and if your entire class is trying to explain
Not good!! She is all over the place. No clear outline. Pointless little homework assignments all semester. Not one person had a clue what we were getting graded on because there is no notes and no tests. And then BAM!! You realize your reseach project is your entire grade and its due in like 3 days. AHHH

Worst teacher I have ever had. Not clear on assignments, makes you write a self-evaluation for EVERY assignment and does not teach at all. I have no idea how she is still a teacher but do yourself a favor and skip her. This many students can't be wrong.
Truly passionate about her job and the subjects which she teaches. She is the most helpful instructor at Kwantlen and is willing to listen to any issue that may be affecting you regarding your course or outside of the classroom. Might not be the easiest instructor in Kwantlen, but will help you at every step in your career as a criminologist.

She is very passionate about what she is teaching but she is very unclear about expectations regarding assignments and papers. She does alot of hands on work and fieldtrips to expose student's the real world. Kind of a scatterbrain though.

She wants you to be a critical thinker yet trumps any thinking that is not her own. I will not reccomend her to anyone. She should not be teaching. Also, reveals your marks online for everyone to see.

She's honestly quite an easy prof. All you have to do is literally log on once a week and participate in the discussions which counts as class participation. There were no exams, just final assignments - so easy! Although, if you slack off then you will be behind for sure because she does not accept late assignments.
She is useless, leaves 75% of the mark for the final day, in the syllabus says a ten page paper, then changes her mind and says she wants it to be 30 pages, acts like she wants to help, but just adds useless homework whenever she feels like it. regret taking her.
Leaves 80% of final grade to last 2 weeks, syllabus incomplete and incomprehensible. Final project spontaneously changed to be 30 pages (syllabus said 10 max) 2/3 of the way through course. Decent course material, though quite a grind. Helpful but not very clear, and her whole 'don't focus on marks' attitude is total BS.
Great teacher who encourages students to think critically. Easiest class ever, I received an easy A+. One thing though, you won't do well without a textbook because all her assignments are based off of the text. Good luck!

She is not clear on her grading requirements, she told us the syllabus was our guide, after our presentation she told my group we couldn't pass because we didnt use a video, we fought this and won our grade, but she was adamant enough to stress us out, she also claims to have integrity, but i felt bullied, she was my only bad experience at kwantlen
