Very sensitive woman. Great professor and man she can play the piano.
Trys to please all, and in doing so, angers everyone and treats them like kids
Nice lady, but during lecture she loses focus and confuses the whole class.
tons of info, tests are long, lots of styudying, but still ended up with a B
very unorganized, does not give any attention to the beginners, does not teach!!
very disorganized, tests are longer than they need to be
She's a wacko! She goes way too fast in her lectures and won't teach until it's completely silent. She tends to yell a lot at students who talk in her class. She also gets distracted quite a bit. Surprisingly, I got an A-.
THE CLASS WAS EASY! I GOT AN A+ IN THERE AND I BARELY WENT TO CLASS!
total wacko, all over the place with her lectures, an absolute nut, but i got a b+
A true musician. She can play the piano with the best. Lazy and inert people do not do well in her class. If you want to learn take her class but pay attention. I learned to pay a damn piano in 1 semester from her. (I play quite nicely now)
This lady is kinda out there... she plays like the piano is better than sex. Always tries to be helpful and never fails at being umm, a bit entertaining... hahaha
Great teacher. Really helps students out as much as possible. She cracks a lot of jokes that are not very funny, but hearing her laugh out loud makes them funny. She is an easy grader, and you dramatically strenghten your piano skills in one semester.
easy teacher and recommended to everyone. She is good for all the beginner. You will defintely learn how to play well after one semester of taking her class. Easy to approach
very good, funny, makes class fun, learn lots.
dont bother.her lectures are boring.her tests are harder that you would think.shes pretty funny because she acts like a crazy woman sometimes.you dont really need to buy the book or the cds.for the final, you have to study or else find other ways 2 pass.
I challenged the class and got out, but she seemed like a great teacher for beginners for the one day i had her.
unclear directions, need to ask her more than once. but some how she'll tell you off easy towards the end of sem - just be polite and nice. just know how to play songs and play for at least B. got bad bad grades on tests-didn't understand crap. but got B+
Worst teacher ever. Forgets when assignments are due, tries to do playing tests everyday. Yelled at me before my playing final and after my written final was turned in she gave the class directions but refused to let me change my test. Avoid!!!
very good, very nice, and a lot of fun. Makes class enjoyable, and you learn a lot.
Fun lady. Very, very helpful. She is very passionate about music. I was a beginner and I ended up learning quite a bit. Just practice the songs and you'll do well.
She was so bad we had a petition going around in our class to kick her off faculty (no kidding). Everyday she'd set a new syllabus and tests were confusing and harder than you'd expect. But no prob, I didn't do much work and got a B+ :)
If you learn the songs, then you'll get a good grade. She has no organized grading system whatsoever nor is she organized in her teachings. Tests are made DURING class. Easy teacher if you do the work. Hard in a sense that you don't know what's due.
God I hate her. She is the worst teacher i ever had in my life. She treats you like you're five and she's so unorganized! There's 40 students and 3 pianos and you need to learn 5 songs a week. whatever! Not that hard, but if you have no patience take anothe
Very good teacher...May be disorganized at times...Just practice your songs...You'll get an A and maybe an A+, like me....
I had her in a very small class, only 15 people so private lesson style. She is a amazing teacher and knows a lot about piano. If you practice like a diligent individual (i.e. a musican) then you will score. Then again I was taught piano at 5 years old fr
This woman is just plain nuts.
she's cool. a little crazy but it's ok. she's easy and teaches class in a slow pace. GOT an A+++
I really can't stand this woman. She is totally psycho! Her class is extremely unorganize. She is no respect for students when they ask questions because she thinks she is always right.Since I knew some about music theory before this class I felt bad for the other students because she's very confusing.
This **** right here is CRAZY!!! She hella retarted but know how to play the piano really well. She thinks that everyone is an expert in piano so she grade hella hard!! Dont take her!!! SHE NEED HELP!!!
Craziest ***** I have ever had as teacher. She doesn't have a clue what's going on but she grades pretty easy if you get on her good side.
Very unorganized and demands her 15 min break everytime between classes. Anyways get to know your classmates cause she asks you to trade test papers around you to grade them. If you got friends, you can grade your own test. I asked for an A and got it.

Use her office hours for her help... Practice your songs and do all the chapter reviews... Purchase a keyboard if you are a beginner. Other wise taking the class was fun
100% NUTS. INSANE. if you must take her class complemnt her like mad. about her shoes and her hair etc. and give her a sob story and she will be nice to you. or cry when you drop
didn't really learn much in this class. curves are really helpful though =]

this woman is insane. her demands the world of you, then yells at you when you do something wrong. Has a tendency to reduce people to tears. Complement her, she loves that. Tell her how WONDERFUL her hair is and her shoes etc. Make her feel like she is the best thing in the world. But seriously this woman is nuts.
I only had to deal with her over email, but she replied to my questions with answers that made no sense, more than once! When I saw her speak in front of everyone the first day, it felt like she thought she was talking to a bunch of 3rd-graders. I have seen other teachers in the dept. shake their heads at the mention of her name, too. AVOID!
Not organized, not a thoughtful, considerate instructor. She asks you to follow her ways, buy new books, demands "thank you" from us, and shows her mean face some times. And she always asks her TA(actually they are the students who attend the same class as the rest) to help her. I think this instructor has low EQ, weird and not welcomed.
nice lady, but horrible teacher. she didnt follow the syllabus, was behind on EVERY test and chapter and our final was on chapters she had never taught.Thats the main problem.she NEVER taught!she expects the students to teach themselves how to play the piano and demands that students show up on certain days, then doesn't show up.i'm so glad its OVER!
Avoid this one. She would destroy your love for music.
Stubbe is a very unique and eccentric individual to say the least. She is a form and analysis guru, and therefore may come off as weird (especially to those not in the Music dept). She is very considerate to students who are considerate to her. The key to surviving her class is to simply GO WITH THE FLOW. She's quirky, handle yourself accordingly
I don't know what she's doing in the music department. She's very smart but a terrible teacher. She gets stressesed out and overwhelmed a lot. She doesn't teach she just TESTS you every single class. She never finishes testing becuase it too much to do in one clas period. I heard the last month is completely insane. i didn't stay to find out.
very nice teacher but a bit disorganize. we had 2 attend 3 concerts & write an essay on it. the concerts were in the afternoon in the music hall, i had 2 miss another class 2 attend this b/c of time conflict. there was 1 time she told a student to leave class 2 sleep, she didn't want him 2 drive home feeling sleepy or it'll cause an accident. haha
Stubbe is a fun character for teaching beginner piano. I've taken piano for about 7 years and it was a class anyone with experience can pass with ease. You have to do three concert reports which was whack but overall they are only worth 10% of your grade. It's really suppose to be about music theory, but playing the piano is what we did for 90%
Avoid this professor at all costs. She is absolutely the worst teacher I have had in my entire academic career. My ratings are not exaggerated. She makes absolutely no sense and rambles on about random topics. She gets annoyed when we ask questions. We just took a final on a chapter she never got around to teaching us. I wish I were kidding.
Class was really hard but manage to get a good grade. People need to focus on the handout she gives instead of complaining about her teaching. If you study the handouts, the class is really easy. People who do not have time to take an hour before a midterm to fill in the handouts should not take her class. Those people deserve to fail.
This prof is CRAZY!!! She NEVER keeps her word. Confused the hell out of me! Really unorganized and ignores most of the begginers questions. If you have had years of piano, you will do fine, if none then please DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. She is seriously the worst piano prof ever. Has no patience, yells at you for asking anything. Study for exams.
Best teacher alive, easy tests short final, friendly teacher
i thot she was kinda crazy even though shes really nice and cares about teaching the class but that doesnt mean the students cared. had her in fall '07, the tests she gave out were the exact same questions in the wb, but i heard she stopped using those cuz some ppl hav photographic memories. reading the text book and not getting lazy is the best wa
This teacher is the wrost teach i've ever had. she changes her due dates and assignments CONSTANTLY. She always goes off topic and I never learn anything in this class. She gets mad when people ask to many questions. Her tests are easy though if you do her study guides. try to avoid this class.
Stubbe is a really funny teacher, but dont take this class if u want an easy A because it is not easy! you need to memorize a lot of stuff and usually there is a lot of HW/reading.
This teacher has no clue what she's doing. she never stays on topic with anything. always assigns writing assignments but never clarifies what she wants or who she wants it about. when you ask her she just tells you to go to class and you'll understand. i do NOT recommend you to take her.
MUSIC APPRECIATION. Gets off topic a lot. Wastes a lot of class time, talks about her self a lot. Listeing to her will make you hate music. Tests are easy if you use the study guides. Sometimes study guides are identical to test. If you take this class; a good piece of advice is tell her you appreciate the study guides.
This teacher is not as bad as everyone puts her out to be. She does get off topic a lot but honestly the class is pretty funny. The tests are the major assignments but she gives out study guides which is basically the test word per word. i say take the class
this class isnt that bad. yea, she gets off topic and gets in her "moods" but the class is pretty easy as long as you use the study guides she gives you. they are word for word. they essays are really easy also.
Class is easy, just turn in your work and do the study guide. I showed up to class everyday using my laptop to surf the web, she assigns essays, like 4 a semester comparing 2 composers, and she gives you a study guide which is the exact same thing as the test, so you don't have to touch your book until you get your study guide
She is a small women, but interesting personality. She can be moody and unapproachable at times. Her class was okay, mostly playing the piano. She did some music theory and her writting tests were not too bad. She also has playing test, where she can get a little harsh. okay teacher
The class was easy because she gave us study guides before the tests. A couple of essays which are easy points, quizzes, and concert reports. Messed up my grade though. Gave me a B when I clearly deserved an A. Keep all your papers just in case she misputs in the grades. Had to tell her to fix my grade twice and she still messed it up. Whatever.
She is completely incompetent. Her tests are difficult and often on much more then she discussed. She has terrible mood swings yelling one minute happy the next. I learned nothing in the class basically taught myself for the exams. Avoid at all costs, this class is one big headache.
She is not very organized; she can go off tangent and is unapproachable at times. BUT, she does hand out helpful study guides before the midterms and final. She doesn't follow a syllabus; she changes due dates and assignments randomly including various in-class activities so attending class is necessary so you won't get so lost.
Although I cant highly recommend Mrs. Stubbe, if u get to know her, youll realize that she really does care about her students. Shes from upstate New York, so she may come off as mean, but shes far from it. Mrs. Stubbe is the way she is because of her past(listen carefully to her)so plz dont take this class if ure going to be a brat.
She's all about her students and her classes. If you catch her on a good day, she's really nice and funny. Overall, the class is pretty simple. Go to class and listen, fill out the study guides she gives you (which is basically the entire test), and you'll be fine.
The class was extremely easy. All you have to do is do the study guides and that is a guaranteed A. She is very helpful and makes the class fun.
Stubbe made this class very easy. You didn't even have to come to class to get an A! Well, you should anyways because she passes the attendance sheet around. She emails you the study guide, and it's basically the test itself. Just study off of that and you'll have a guaranteed A. She's also kinda bipolar... So watch out on her bad days.
i dont care what anyone says, she is the funniest teacher ever. yea she may seem a little crazy, but she makes the class fun. tests are super easy. fill out all the questions on the study guide and there is your test.
Stubbe is ok. I can't say I would recommend her as a teacher. It is really frustrating not knowing what she wants from you and she goes on tons of pointless tangents. The class if easy if you do the study guides, but it feels like a huge waste of time to sit in that class.
I hate this teacher so much, she gives bad study guides that don't make sense. Her midterms are very long. Approx 86 questions. She gives way too much homework. I highly recommend staying away from this teacher.
Loves to hear herself talk and goes off topic alot that doesn't help at all. Although she plays really good piano she treats people like kids which frustrates everyone. It's an easy A but must have textbook to pass exams cause her notes aren't very helpful.
Goes off topic too much and too disorganized. Complains about not having enough time to cover the material while wasting time by talking about herself. The test was all from study guides she e-mails out and parts from the book. Great piano player and enthusiastic about the class, but not a good teacher.
So I based my teacher picks off this site. She turned out to be a overall good teacher. Somehow I ended up with an A with a B+ going into the final. Her work is all about reading the book, so I would recommend it. Her biggest problem is her inability to keep on the subject of music, because she talks about herself a lot.. REALLY RANDOM! i swear.
...Don't take this teacher EVER, her class is a waste of time, she can't stay on the topic of music. Midterms are incredibly difficult usually about 75 questions, with a listening section. She isn't helpful AT ALL, I don't recommend taking music appreciation with her.. you'll never want to show up to class, it's a huge waste of time.
Honestly, this is an easy class. Show up to lecture, take down her notes & zone out when she gets off topic (which happens an awful lot). Too lazy to show up for lecture? Just read your text book, & you're set. She tries to help out students, but her execution of reviewing is terrible & has trouble operating PPT. All in all, terrible experience.
She's a little scatter-brained at times, and she actually seems self-conscious about what people think of her, but the class itself isn't difficult; come to class and take notes, or at least read the book at home and you'll be okay. It's a history class, which has always been my weakness, and I got an A. Not a class you really need to sweat over.
if youre an audio learner and you are diligent in studying from the textbook then HOORAH for you. if not, then good luck. im an absolute visual learner and her listening sections on midterms screwed me over so bad. the multiple choice isnt bad at all if you studied from the book.
Stubbe is one interesting professor. Her lectures do not help at all for any of her 5 midterms. They're all multiple choice but in order to do well you must read the whole book and then some. I have no idea how but I got an A in her class. If you attend all of her classes you will get extra credit.
She is not a bad person but her teaching style is unique. I thought I was going to end up with a B but I got a C in the end. Her midterms are tough because she puts things she "claims" she said in class. You have to read the book and make outlines. A lot of work for a 3 unit class. At least I passed...
Not a very good teacher at all. I learned nothing. This class was hard when it should have been so easy!
To save your time: DO NOT TAKE HER. JUST DO NOT. If you need a last resort, then please know what you are getting into.
I like her style of teaching. The tests are straightforward- all you have to do is read the chapter and make sure you know the key terms. It's suuuuuuper easy. Honestly, I don't even go to half the classes yet I still get A's on the tests. Just get on her good side by asking smart Q's and be respectful.
My favorite TEACHER!! Take her her class is easy, her notes are straight forward and shes a beaut.
Don't take her. She loses track easily, accused me of things I didn't do, doesn't remember anything, threatened to call the police one day, cant concentrate on anything, can never answer your questions, doesn't care about students but always brags that she does. Blasts the music to full, stutters, reads notes super fast. Rude! Unreliable! Horrible
at first I didn't like this professor but I ended up liking her. I have no music background and got an A on everything. 3 music reports, 4 test, and final was easy. the study guide questions were the same as the finals. She curves the grades a lot for every test. great piano player. weird, but funny! NEED THE BOOK!multiple choice tests
Her class is pretty strange.. She would say one thing about the test and then another. She MAY curve the test depending on how she feels. Don't rely on her lectures or pp (barely utilizes it) just memorize the chapters.
Her tests and lectures are very sporatic..Lectures/PP's are NOT clear whatsoever. It was VERY frustrating. I did not enjoy the class whatsoever. I had 2 A's out of 3 exams. A's on everything else, and I still did not get an A. I'm an honor student, but her lack of clarity will most likely trip you.
I've been in this class for just under 6 weeks, and the only things I've learned is 1)If you miss one class, she automatically assumes that you don't want to be there and 2)there is 0 reason to attend this class. Absolutely nothing. The lecture and powerpoint are useless and everything is in the book. Easy, yet pointless class, bad, moody teacher.
She's really querky and random much of the time. She's an easy teacher. Use the txt book and study guides.Going to class I'd definitely not mandatory to get a good grade in this class. Much of the time she goes off topic. Even if she tries to lecture she doesn't get too far into it. Sweet lady, but she can't teach very well. Tests are mult choice.
I recommend to stay away from this class until it's a last resort. Stubbe is very nice, but her teaching isnt very good. Gets off topic alot and doesnt finish the lesson plan. Attendance is graded. She gives hw and study guides to tests which are basically the test themselves. That's the only positive.
Avoid this teacher if you want to have a good experience at SJSU. She's very inconsistent, and doesn't know what she's really teaching half the time. Gets off topic too. Her material is easy, but she's not that good of a teacher. Any music teacher but her.
She always got off topic. Her study guides are her tests which makes it super easy to get A's. Being in lecture is so boring and unnecessary because you can do the study guides, read the text and turn in concert reports and you're bound to get an A. And if you fail something, don't worry, you can still get an A. I did. But try to avoid this class.
If you want to spend a large amount of time trying to get an A in this class, then I highly recommend it. She's also really rude and arrogant. Sensed a bit of racism as well. Oh, but if you do end up getting her she's one of those professors you'd have to suck up to.
Stubbe has good intentions. She wants her students to do well, but she just is not a good teacher at all. Lectures are essential useless because all she does is play youtube videos and digress on topics. However, the book and study guide make the class relatively easy. Stubbe should be a last resort.
She means well no doubt but this class is mostly tests and although her study guides help, they aren't all that useful. She rambles about who knows what during class time and can be really rude to some students. I do not suggest this class but if you do make sure to buy the book it'll be your savior.
Stubbe is off topic more than on. Do the study guides; often the exact questions appear on the midterms. She's a very difficult teacher to please, you will find yourself frustrated and confused with instructions. She will talk nonsense for the entire class period. I don't recommend this professor whatsoever.
She is a terrible teacher absolutely would NOT recommend. If you are willing to sit through a dumb ramble about her glory days as a young musician and at the end of the day learn nothing for the test, then take this class.
Shes a funny professor but usually gets confused and forgets to teach which in this case is a bad thing seeing as her tests are extremely long ! Also this class will put you to sleep it is super boring.
Honestly she will be extremely helpful if you ask her for the help. She wants to see that youre interested in her subject and willing to work for the grade. She is very entertaining and wants nothing but the best for her students. If you do the study guides you will get an A. She is also a very talented musician.
She tends to ramble. Lectures are usually off-topic and boring. However, the class is an easy A if you do the study guides and read the book. Usually gives some kind of extra credit on tests.
The book will be your life line, invest in it. Lectures tend to go off topic which is why book is important. She's not very clear on what she expects from writing assignments and not to helpful when asked. Does respond to emails though(: Test can be easy if you do the reading and show up everyday for the participation points and quizzes.
One of the worst classes and professors I've ever taken. I would absolutely NOT recommend taking this class with this professor unless you want to waste an 1:15 of your life 2 times/week. You will not learn a single thing in class so be ready to learn everything on your own.
you better not use your phone or laptop in class :)
She doesn't really teach at all so there's no reason to go to class. Just use the study guides she emails you and your textbook. Everything is from the textbook. She can be a bit moody at times, so don't make her angry. She tends to get annoyed easily. All in all, super easy class if you're willing to teach yourself.
She was absolutely horrible. She made a couple students cry during class. This was music fundamentals, not some advanced class. This woman should not be "teaching."
very bad, unclear what she wants, goes way too fast.. we don't even have option to ask anything in class, she will embarrass you as Well if you do ask anything.
