This teacher was brilliant, amazing, and very willing to help. I learned more about Philosophy and life than I can ever imagined for. She was very open minded and very knowledgeble of all religious perspectives and arguments...Best el co teacher

She was an amazing teacher. Very helpful inside and outside of class. Filled lectures with real life examples and had very organized lectures. Not a day was wasted going to that class. I never missed a single one!

OMg, she's the greatest teacher EVER! you should totally take her if your serious about your education and your willing to commit much of your nights reading the book. just read the book, and UNDERSTAND it. her class is by far my favorite class at el co!!

This is the best teacher at El Camino! I learned more than any other class. It's interesting, fun, challenging, and totally worth it. I miss not having her class! She is brilliant, funny, and so wonderful.

she's a hard teacher but you'll learn a lot... more like you already knew some things but they're put as philosophical theories... it's really interesting and the tests are all essay format... no EC (exception was voting) and no make up assignments if you're absent the day it's given...

Excellent Teacher!! Tests are hard only if you don't go through the study questions. Basically just take notes in her class and put those notes in the test, don't miss any class, every lecture is important. just do wat u r told to and u shuld be fine:)

She is the best teacher I've ever had! I've never learned that much in any of my classes. She is very intelligent and organized (unlike other philosophy teachers). And she makes you think... You have to go to every single lecture to get an A. Trust me, you won't regret it!

The teacher is very good, but the class is so God awful hard. She teaches on a different level then any other college teachers; even on a UC scale. But her class is worth taking if you're willing to commit to it.

One of the best teachers I've had in all my years, extremely helpful after classes and during. on tests just write every name, fact, and anything else remotely appliable. Wish I could take more of her classes. This is a must prof for anyone who wants to learn!!!

She's an amazing woman. Possibly the only course at El Camino you'll think about everyday for the rest of your life. She's an amazing woman. No scantrons, hardcore essays. If you take her, read the textbook, do the study questions, and meet in study groups. She's an amazing woman!

she has a sophisticated air about her. she's an AMAZING woman and you can tell she's extremely intelligent. she's super funny too. however, her class is NOT easy. but i've learned so much from her its ridiculous. the ideas she teaches in that class.. makes you look at life a different way. she's a beautiful person. i love her

An inspiration to all philo majors, or pre-law students. As a biology major, she sparked an interest in me to make philo my minor. She expects a lot, but gives out enough information to do so. Her lectures are the best way to go about getting a decent grade in her class. The book is just a refrence. Wonderful teacher. Grades fairly.

She's awesome. All you have to do is go to every single class and pay attention. All she wants to her from you on the tests is what she lectures on. But make sure you pay attention to details. I got an easy A and what I learned helped me in real life. You have to be pretty an incompetent freak or a slacker if you can't get a good grade in her class

Thureson is just amazing. She's one of those professors who will change you as a person. It's easy to admire her poise, credentials and intelligence. Her class is not a breeze, but you will learn a lot. She is very clear and organized if you take notes you will know exactly what is expected of you and come out with a sense of accomplishment.

This class was SO hard. Take this class if you want a challenge. Course is entirely composed of readings and essay exams. Do not take for an easy grade, ONLY if you have a strong interest in the subject and will find it easy to do the required reading. Very intimidating class!

The secret to passing this class:Know exactly what she wants;dont assume.She knows her subject from A-Z,is very clear in her lectures,and makes class enjoyable.Yes,its a challenging class,but u will definately learn a ton.She hates scantrons,so its all about essay exams,which helps u retain the material better.If u really want that A,read the text.

She definately boosted my grade up to an A when my average was much lower, so don't assume she's going to fail you after a few bad scores. Talk to her before and after class so she knows you care. Don't be late to class, she hates rude students.

Take note of everthing written on the board, and take note of her lectures. Whatever she places an emphasis on put into your class notes. All essays are in class, and she says that she is not an English grammer class, so just write what you know in terms of philosophy.

Lectures can be boring but discussions are usually interesting. Tests are essay based and she gives a list of possible essay topics prior to the exam. There are a few easy homework assignments and one essay assignment (worth as much as an exam). This class is fairly difficult but it’s not impossible and she grades on a curve.

She's an amazing person and is very personable. Asking her questions during class will make her like you a lot and she'll show favortism to those who are interested in the course. You'd be lucky to ever get a better teacher than her. Difficult at first, but you can easily get used to her methods and do well.

i loved Mrs thuerson, and her class. she is so witty and really presents the material in both an interesting and intriguing way. this class is like nothing you have taken b4. just study the notes, do exactly what she tells u to do 4 the tests, i always suggest 2 read 2 grasp the entire message..but do this and u will ejoy the class and get an A

I'm just now graduating for a 4 year with a phil degree and this professor remains the best teacher I've ever had, bar none. The class is challenging and I barely came away with a B, but I learned more in this class than any other 2 classes combined. Highly recommended.

I LOVED this professor! Intelligent, witty, helpful - I have the utmost respect for her. Her class is not easy, the tests are challenging and she can be a difficult grader. But she gives you all you need to know in the lectures (so don't miss class), and the text can be draining, but it's crucial. I grew so much during this class!

You will learn a lot in this class! Some say that she grades hard...i find that untrue... as long as you mention all the important terms in the tests you'll do fine. I definitely recommend this teacher..it's always a fun class to attend to.

No one at El Camino knows philosophy like she does, and when you speak to her she shows a great deal of respect and friendliness. Best teacher I've ever had. Not a hard grader, but I can see how people can mess up in her class-THEY DONT SHOW UP-that's all you have to do. She teaches the same material every day to reinforce concepts.

Highly recommended for prospective philosophy majors; not for those who merely wants to fulfill reqs. Challenging but you will learn how to think and write analytically. Do the reading; the material deals with the basics of Western Philosophy. A is within reach if you study hard enough. Only SEEMS intimidating. She prepared me well for Berkeley.

I graduated from UC Berkeley almost a year ago and this remains the best professor I've ever had. Whoever rates this professor poorly is just lazy and not interested in Philosophy. She is extremely intelligent, her knowledge of philosophy, law and world events is unbelievable. Took 2 classes w. her including the honors - got As in both. Doable.

DO NOT take this class just to fulfill your GE requirements, it's not easy. I went in thinking it would be easy since it's just philosophy, boy was i wrong, you will have to work HARD for an A. She is very intelligent, no doubt about that, and i have much respect for her.

I've been meaning to leave a comment for a year now. THIS TEACHER IS WONDERFUL! She is hard, yes but you will learn SO much about EVERYTHING. Yourself, the world, people, It's an amazing class. Few homework assignments, very intense tests but IT CAN BE DONE. Attendance is mandatory but you're not going to want to miss class, its so interesting

She is the epitome of a truly great professor! Best I've ever had! You learn so much in this class. It is hard, so I would not recommend it for slackers. But if you want to learn and experience what college is supposed to be like, take her! Don't be intimidated by those who rate her as anything less than an A. It is possible and it's def. worth it!

This class was pretty interesting(Philosophy 3). Although I never participated in the discussions, it was a very good class. I learned a lot and I managed to get an A. For an A, all you need to do is review your notes and you'll ace your exams. If you can't get at least a B here, good luck trying to transfer to UCLA or UCB.

I think she deserves to have tenure at a 4-year, especially based on my experiences at UCI, she's incredibly intelligent. You need to work hard for an A. Don't miss class because it will probably set you back by a LOT, that was my downfall. Tests are all essays w/ a take home essay at the end that has no clear requirements, so be careful.

GREAT TEACHER!!! She is so smart. The material she teaches could have been so confusing but she explains it so that it is easy and interesting. She even gives you the questions that might be on the essay test so that you can practice writing your in class essay at home. She will even review those questions in her office hours with you. A must take.

Just as the others have mentioned...She is an excellent teacher who really makes you think. Sometimes, you may feel that her class gets boring and repetitive, but in the end...when test time comes around, you'll be thankful for all those examples and different ways she summarized ethical theories and such. GO TO ALL CLASS SESSIONS & take notes=A :]

She knows what she wants out of the students. If you don't write ALL your notes for the exams you will most certaintly fail. If you don't pay attention you fail. The key is to be very detailed and basically regurgitate what she taught you down on paper. Hard if you want a chill class that will let you have your own opinion.

Professor Thureson is extremely knowledgable in what she teaches. Her lectures make up the bulk of the class, and you don't necessarily need the book, but it is helpful for getting a more thorough understanding of the subject. Tests are in essay format with one issue paper at the end of the semester. You wont regret taking this class!!

One of the best classes I've ever taken. Yes it is difficult, but certainly not impossible. To do well, you really have to show up everyday, take really good thorough notes, and study diligently for the exams. I barely managed a B in the class, but just study hard and really pay attention to lectures!

Consider this professor one of the best ever encountered in all my years of schooling. Able to explain in a very easy-to-understand manner, with good real-life examples. Often plays devil's advocate to explore other perspectives. Very knowledgeable but NOT intimidating. Don't be discouraged.

I personally thought her class was difficult. She is a good teacher, but I thought her exams were difficult. You really have to study notes and make sure to refer to the text in the exams!! I regret not studying more and reading the notes carefully. But she's very open to questions! Nice teacher, hard class, interesting subject.

This class was the hardest I have ever taken. I failed almost every test and never got the hang of it. If you don't read the book and you can't be a VERY thorough in-class essay writer, you're screwed. But beside all this she is an awesome lady, she's super nice, and when it comes down to it, understanding about grades if you have good attendance.

Awesome teacher, changed my perspective on life in a very positive way. Gives every thought a chance. Challenges your thinking in a good way. Opened up my mind and completely changed the way i act and feel about myself. I didnt like my grade on my essay and when i asked her to re-grade it she did and gave me a better grade.

EXCELLENT!! Outstanding professor. Dr. Thureson is an incredible speaker and makes class very interesting. Record the lectures and listen to them over and over AND take notes from them because she talks too fast in class to take thorough notes (you need to use her words in the exams to get A's).

I had a 4.0 for 3 years until I took this class (my 5th HTP course). Everyone, except 2 people (who got Cs), got Fs on the first exam. The material isn't hard, she just doesn't clearly explain how she's going to grade or what she wants you to write. So basically, write EVERYTHING she writes on the board in your exams word for word to get an 'A'.

She is an amazing professor! I would highly recommend any one to take her class! It is a lot of work since she is a tough grader, but that makes you learn everything thoroughly. This class changed completely how I think about everything, But just make sure you do the reading&take notes from board&study the notes like crazy you can get A!

Her class was very enjoyable and if you take it you will learn a lot. I'll admit the grading is a bit tough until you learn what she is looking for, if you restate everything on the test then you will do fine.

I highly recommend her class! I have a feeling I will remember her class the most for years to come. Dr. Thureson not only made the class enjoyable but she makes you work for your grade, which I respect. Take notes like crazy and study them! Best professor I've had so far :)

Not everyone thinks along the lines of Kant,Aquinas,Mill, etc. This class is an annihilation of individual reflective thought within the realms of thinking critically about 'ethical' dilemmas. Note2 ALL: If u have thought processes tht r more in depth than the philosophers she teaches u when put on the spot, keep it 2 urself or ur grade will suffer

she is a good teacher, but she doesnt give a good explanation of what your going to be doing on the test! if u read the material 12 times and only focus n this class then you will pass, but if you have other classes that your trying to focus on then just dont take this class!

I had Dr Thureson almost38 yrs ago and II fell in love with Philosophy. I wound uptaking it for 2 semesters. She always had the time to help. I remained good friends with Dr.Thureson and would liketo reunite with her.(she has the only copy of a print I did. Philosophy opens your brain to think.

At first glance I thought I was going to do real bad, but once you put the time to learn the ethical theories you'll be fine, This class was mindblowing, she taught the course so well it was a attention grabbing experience, sometimes she was unclear but that never took away from the learning experience. Highly recommend her! Will take another class

Out of all my professors at El Camino so far she has made me work for my grade. I thought it wasn't going to be hard so I didn't study or due homework on time I figured she would cut me some slack. Well, she didn't. That made me respect her so much! She shows passion for her courses it inspired me! Very valuable material!

This class is NOT an easy class but she will give you a solid foundation and make you think critically about philosophy. Your grade will be based mostly on in class examinations (aka in class essays) and papers. I can honestly say that I feel better prepared to excel in a 4-year because of this class! Recommended for the motivated and inquisitive.

Very interesting class, which makes you think about everyday life events and your opinion combined with various philosophers ideas. Opens up your eyes, although a challenging class that requires detailed preparation for class exam essays. Would consider taking her ethics class.

Very interesting and thought provoking class, which relates to everyday life situations around the world. Makes you aware of things going on and feelings about subjects combined with philosophers ideas. In class exam essays are not easy, therefore very important to remember and understand the different philosophers. Would consider ethics class.

Take notes EXACTLY as she writes them and actually review them. she expects you 2 answer each test "essay" in the same format as the notes. Her explanations are unclear, but keep asking questions. The book is so dense you NEED 2 pay attention when she goes over the reading. Really inspirational class if you have an open mind. STAY MOTIVATED 2 pass!

Professor Thureson is one of the best professors you can have for ethics. If you focus and dedicate yourself then you'll do well. If you slack and have no respect for the class and lack discipline, failure is guaranteed.

PHIL 23 was a very interesting class. It does require a bit of outside reading, but Prof. Thureson did a good job of explaining the concepts in class. The material became more abstract as the semester progressed, but if you are diligent in reviewing what is discussed in class, it is very possible to do well!

I LOVED this class! The lectures were so interesting, and I loved going to class even though it was at 7:45am. Go to class because every class is worth it. You think about things you didn't even realize could be though about. Trust me, you will understand when you take the class. Hard class for many people but easy for me because I loved it.
