She is the best teacher I've had at UTC. She genuinely cares about her students and teaching. Her class is definitely manageable; you just have to read the chapters, cases, and attend class. She gives pop quizzes, but you usually have a feeling when she will be giving them. She gives extra credit on tests, and those questions will be anywhere from leaders of foreign countries to the real names of rap stars. Essay answers are not set in stone, and your answer can be right as long as you back it up.

Grades fairly, workload is a little bit of a pain, but if you do it all, you should have a good shot at an A because she gives monster curves on test-12 pts once

She is a fun teacher, keeps class interesting. Come to class b/c she will remember you if you dont. Read the chapters and you will do fine on the tests. Gives a review sheet telling EXACTLY what material will be covered on the final. The final is required but it can replace your lowest test score.

Funny and entertaining teacher that gives 4 tests and lots of extra credit points on them. I was given the option of taking my exam or just taking my current grade which was a B. I took the B because she said it could still hurt our grade if we did take the exam. Strongly Recommend!

Dr.Sompayrac is fantastic! This was far and away the most interesting class I have taken at UTC. She makes the class lively with her stories of interesting and current legal issues and she encourages questions and discussion. Definately read the chapter before class because she gives pop quizzes, but I guarantee you will love this lady!

Great class, great professor! Dr. S is funny and keeps class interesting by talking about interesting cases. One even discussed adult entertainment! I nearly fell out of my chair. She is super funny. There is homework, but there is also extra credit on the tests (it is random, but fun!)and gives sample questions--some of which are on the exam! Study them.

Dr. S is very intelligent. She makes sure that she explains every little detail of every subject, and gives plenty of examples. Please do the cases and HW they make class so much easier. She seems to make the material more difficult than what it should be, however it helps so much. She is fun, and excited to teach.

But I thought the class was very hard, but Dr. Sompayrac was very funny and nice. Good teacher, bad class. The drops she gives really helps out!

Very enjoyable, I loved going to class every day. Joanie is a great professor. Many questions on tests were subjective, but she always threw out questions if a majority of the class missed it. Her 10 bonus questions on tests can be on ANYTHING, lol. Case briefs aren't too hard. READ before every class or quiz grade will suffer. Overall, I loved it.

Very boring in the sense that she reads off slides- Expects you to know cases really well. Study hard and you will do well in this class.

This class is HARD!! She requires you to read practically the entire book before class!! Study her slides b/c they can differ from the book, and you need to know hers! HW helps your grade a bunch so do it, and do it thoroughly!! For her tests you need to understand the concepts and diff defenses for the laws or they will be difficult! Stay away!!

I absolutely love her. I have had her for principles of accounting as well as legal environment of business. She knows what she's talking about and she's HILARIOUS. She's very clear about the subject and she makes class fun. I based my entire schedule around getting her again!

Wonderful Professor! Does everything to ensure you do your best in her class. I had a rough time at first but she always made time to help me outside of class. She even gave up her Saturday nights before tests to answer questions students had! I wish all my professors were as passionate about teaching!

Ms. Sompayrac is the best! She goes over the HW in class, so it should be an easy A. Drops the lowest HW grades and will replace your lowest test grade w/ the final exam grade if it helps. Dr. Sompayrac is an awesome professor and really knows her tax stuff. Their is a lot of homework but it is very beneficial. No in class exams until the final, research memos and exams help students understand how to read and interpret the tax code better than in class exams. Take Sompayrac for this course and you will be be glad you did.

Don't get the textbook. She has good lectures. I really enjoyed going to her class and seeing what she has to say. However, her tests had tricky questions involving scenerios and there wasn't a really efficient way to study for them. Hard to take notes on her. Look at the powerpoints she post online I guess. Overall, I'd suggest taking her.

Best Accounting Ever!

Fantastic TEACHER. Her federal tax class is definitely hard, but it should be. If you take this class you will be very surprised how much you end up learning from her.

Dr. Sompayrac is one of my favorite professors at the univeristy. Knowledgeable about what she teaches and helps you to understand with great examples. Believes in her students strongly. Told me I needed a certain percentage on my business law final - and believed I could do well enough to get an A in the class. I did it. Highly recommended.

Dr. S is a fun Principles teacher. She's really smart and interacts well with the class. Lots of stories. Material isn't too difficult. Go to class and do the homework and you should be fine for the tests if you understand the homework and the study guide.

I absolutely loved her. She is an accountant and a lawyer so she's super smart. Great personality and hilarious. She's very open and honest. Tests were online.

This woman is amazing and truly cares about her students. The exams were all online but they were not that hard if you paid attention to her amazing lectures. She often uses students as jokes to situations, but you learn the material that way because she makes it fun. You must still work for your grade however, she will not hand feed you. Amazing!

One of the best personalities I've ever encountered. You'll be lucky to get a seat in her class due to the high demand. The only reason I was able to get her was because it was a summer class. I don't know this for sure, but I think she's already loaded and only teaches out of pure enjoyment. Definitely one of the best at this University

Good teacher. You cannot expect to pass if you don't study. She gives you all the tools you need to pass. I only attended class about half of the time and did no homework. I still passed the class somet by taking notes when I did go and by studying her powerpoints online. Tough material, but not impossible.

Yes this class is hard, she tells you it is hard from the get go but she is a good teacher and will spend extra time making sure you get it if you go to her office hours or work with her. This class was extremely challenging for me and the homework is hard but you have to take the time to do it. If you do that you'll be okay. Great person!

The subject matter isn't very hard, but there is quite a bit of material to cover in between tests. I didn't attend her class every week, since she teaches from a powerpoint that is an exact copy of the chapter in the textbook. So if you understand the book and do the homework, you should be able to pass the class.

Professor Sompayrac knows her material, and she comes to every class with a clear plan for how to present it clearly. I think the problem is that too many students come to class without reading & expect her to teach us everything. Those of us who actually read the book and try the homework generally get the most out of her classes. She's awesome!

One of my favorite professors. The course is really difficult, but if you go to class, study, and ask questions you will do just fine. If you want an easy A this is not the class (or really the major) for you. She's an attorney (so yes she has a doctorate) and is hysterical. Would absolutely take her classes again.

This is a class all business majors have to take, and it has the potential to be really boring. She brings in all sorts of weird and interesting cases from examples that are actually happening in the news to explain concepts of business law. For me, this makes classes more interesting and helps me remember many of the concepts she is teaching.

Dr. S is so helpful! She really cares about whether her students learn. If you go to her office for help, she will help you, but if you are lazy and don't even try, she will not have much tolerance. She tries to find ways to help everyone understand!

This was one of the hardest classes I have ever taken! Even so, Dr. S was always wiling to explain things in class, and she often met with me and my classmates outside of class to give us extra help. She is very approachable and interested in helping students learn. She even gave a study session on a Sunday before the final exam! Love her!

While she does not require attendance in class, you REALLY need to go! Also, you have GOT to the homework. It may seem like a lot of work, but if you practice all the stuff she gives you do in the HW, then you don't have as much to worry about on her tests.

This class consisted of 4 case briefs which became easier once you got the hang of them. 4 test and final and her test AREN'T definitional based she gives examples and cases and you need to know the concepts so you will know how to answer the questions. great lectures with real material. Come to class put in the effort SHE WILL HELP YOU.

Dr. Sompayrac is AWESOME! She knows how to make a tough subject interesting. And, she is hilarious.

Second class I've taken from her, and I still can't get enough! She is very helpful if you ever need help and she KNOWS what she is taking about. If you are having trouble in her classes, get help from her and it will pay off with you not just memorizing the topic, but being able to apply it to anything she throws at you. I highly recommend!

I love Professor Sompayrac. I do not love accounting. She does a great job of explaining things, answering questions, helping with homework, and giving examples. You have an online book/homework, and in class she explains everything and works out problems. She is kind, funny, and actually cares. The material isn't easy but she makes up for it.

Her tests are difficult and her final exam (which is comprehensive) is really really hard. I worked my ass off for my B, but I learned A LOT. She goes over examples of concepts in class, & she'll spend lots of time helping with questions in her office. I still had to read and practice the homework, but accounting is a subject you must practice.

My friends told me to take her, so I did. She made accounting so much easier to understand. So many people in my class skipped class then complained about how hard she was. I am not that great of a student, but I came to class, and I did okay. She made a HUGE difference for me.

Took Accounting 2 in a 6 week summer class. I am not a good accounting student, so this was risky, but I had Dr. S for Accounting 1, so I wanted to take her again. Taking this class in summer was ALOT of work, but she made it a bit easier. She usually only had office hours one day a week, but she answered questions by email. You MUST go to class!

Accounting is a difficult subject but she uses lots of good examples in class that are relevant to the tests and solidify textbook understanding. Her lectures are entertaining and she obviously cares about her students. I would recommend reading the textbook and not rushing through the homework. Overall, Sompayrac is a great prof.

Her attendance was not mandatory, so I only came to class on test days and homework days. On the days I did go, she was very entertaining and helpful. The powerpoints are straightforward and taught me everything I needed to know. As long as you have self-discipline and read over the notes a lot then you should be fine!

Accounting is not my thing and I struggled all semester in her class but she WILL make the effort to help you out as much as you can as long as you show her you care. She does curve test grades a lot which is helpful. Final is cumulative but I made a really good grade on the final and passed the class with a B. If you are struggling GO meet w/ her!

Professor Sompayrac is my FAVORITE professor hands down. Accounting is a hard subject but she makes it interesting and fun. One of the most beneficial classes I've ever taken. If you are struggling GO MEET WITH HER! She is more than willing to help you, but YOU have to put in the effort. Come to class, take notes, ask for help and you'll pass.

best professor I have taken at UTC. im taking another one of her classes next semester. her lectures are interesting and she wants to help her students understand the concepts. the subject can be difficult but don't hesitate to ask her for help. she is an expert in her field and knows how to make things understandable.

I felt like managerial accounting was extremely straightforward. Professor Sompayrac did her best to help those that seemed to struggle.

I'm not gonna lie, this class would have been hard for me in person, but add that it was totally online, and it was brutal. But Dr. S gave us good lecture videos, lots of practice problems before tests, Zoom study sessions before tests and she would Zoom with us individually if we needed personal help. She really cared about helping us.

Professor Sompayrac is so awesome. I was really nervous to take accounting but now I am majoring in it starting next semester because of how much this made sense. Attendance isn't mandatory and you can memorize to get by but it does build on itself so going to class will help you really understand it. 1-2 homework assignments per week n 5 exams

Love Prof. Sompayrac. Took her for ACC2010 and BUS 3350. Loved her for BUS 3350 more because shes a CPA and real estate agent AND has a law degree who knows a lot about the subject. She was great in accounting too, made me add Accounting as my double major. So sweet, accessible, and really funny. Definitely take her :)

The people who tell you she is hard are the ones who do not try whatsoever. Minimal homework and tests are 90% homework problems with different numbers. She does not require attendance but beware because skip class and you will not pass because of the nature of the class (everything builds). Only complaint is she is slow responding to emails.

She is a caring professor who will work with you and help you if you talk to her. The hardest part of the class are the case briefs which you just have to do your best. Otherwise, homework's a are easy and the key to the class and tests are memorizing EVERY DEFINITION! You HAVE to memorize the vocabulary to do well as that's all the tests are.

Dr. Sompayrac is my hero! She makes what could be boring material enjoyable and easy to understand. You can tell she really cares about her students and makes every effort to help them succeed. She breaks up the material into relevant sections and has tests more often, but if you do the homework with the intent to understand, they are a breeze.

Sompayrac is wonderful as a professor! the class is hard because of what it is, not because of the professor. She is extremely accessible outside of class and wants you to do well! Multiple extra credit opportunities! You dont need to buy the entire printed textbook, you only need the Wiley Course code to access the online textbook and homework.

She is super nice and was willing to always work with students to help them succeed. You will have to study for this class as exams are hard, but all materials are given.

Dr. Sompayrac is a great professor. The material she teaches is clear and not difficult to understand as long as you take it at face value. Don't overthink what she's teaching you. Beyond that, she's happy to help outside of class if you need it. My only complaint were that her quiz dates were different from what was listed on the syllabus.

Very good professor but make sure you put in lots of extra time. I spent countless hours in tutoring and lab. I found it hard to ask her questions but easier going to tutoring where it was easier to ask questions. Overall, if you start out with a mindset of doing well in this class you will but if you wait it gets stressful.

She is amazing and cares that you do good. Class attendance is so important to understand. Tests are challenging but not impossible so make sure you study- do the practice problems for every test until you FULLY understand the material and you will do great. Go to labs on Fridays and go to all available extra credit- it is a HUGE grade booster.

The professor is funny and keeps her lectures engaging. The class is pretty easy as long as you take the time to study. She's understanding and willing to help if you're confused, making it a good experience overall.

This professor was so amazing! Accounting is a difficult subject, so you definitely have to put the work in. But, Dr. S is helpful knows how to explain the material very well. She does these things called "In-Class Problems" each chapter to check for understanding. She obviously cares about her students and wants the best for them. Take her!!

She is a great professor for accounting! The only thing is I found myself skipping class a lot because it was an 8am. She doesn't grade attendance but she does have these in-class problems which are sort of like pop quizzes. My grade went down a lot because I would miss so much class and miss these. Overall, just study hard and you'll do good.

Sompayrac is an awesome professor. She is easily found outside class and will answer any question in class. There is a weekly lab on Fridays for questions too. There are several exams, but easy if you study and do the given practice problems. Do the homework, read the book, and pay attention in class and you should do fine. Lots of extra credit too

I took Intro 2 as an Online over the summer. Dr. S is super caring and can be reached outside of class times, so don't hesitate to reach out to her. I will say, if you can take this class as an in-person, do that rather than online. Also, READ THE TEXTBOOK AND ASK QUESTIONS!
