She wrote the textbook! She's a good teacher with a good sense of humor. Her tests are a little confusing but its a good class to take. She's lenient with curves on speeches but she grades very specifically.

Very organized & helpful. Loves sports. Work on the projects in advance-also BUY the booklet on the country she assigns EARLY. It is hard to find otherwise. In a pinch, you can download it for a low price as a PDF file on the publishers site.

Very fair professor, but that does not mean that this class is an easy A. If you don't practice eliminating those umm's and ahh's, making eye contact, and not going over or under your alloted time, you will not get an A. With that being said, I did learn a lot in this class.

SUPER FUN CLASS, no writing assignments what so ever. (2) Quizzes on movies, and only a final is given. Awesome teacher and awesome subject matter. Oh yeah, there is only one group project which is really fun to do.

She is a very fair teacher. You have 3 speaches and a midterm/final that are multiple choice. The 2 test are simple, just study what she indicates. Speeches are simple as long as you are well prepared, I suggest practicing a few times prior to class.Overall wonderful teacher, very knowledgable about speech edict.

I absolutely love her! Not only is she extremely interesting, she knows what she's talking about. Class discussions always involve the students and she has a genuine interest in our thoughts. I recommend her, but only if you're gonna keep on top of the work. If you don't it can become overwhelming.

This professor is INCREDIBLY nice, helpful and caring and she offers all the help that she can to her students. I took both these courses online and she was awesome! Always available. COM 3461 is SUPER EASY but COM 3110 is a little harder (particularly the last project).

I took this class online and had: 3 tests, 10 assignments, and 1 project. The assignments were pretty easy BUT the test were confusing and long. She doesn't give you enough time to do the test. but overall, she was very willing to help out the students.

I took COM 3461 (Intercultural Communications) and COM 3110 (Business Communications) online with her. The assignments were interesting and I learned A LOT!!! Overall, both of these course were NOT difficult at all if you keep up and follow the syllabus. I am going to take her public speaking class next. She is by far the BEST teacher ever!!!!!!

Awesome teacher! She made us do 2 quizzes on two movies, a presentation, midterm and final, overall easy A and so sweet, knows her stuff too. The presentation was really fun, each group had different countriees to find info about and we brought food, items and other stuff. Really fun class. Doesn't even take up the who 3 hours. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Professor Brown was an AMAZING teacher! She is sooooo helpful and knows her**** and teaches it WELL. She is really good about replying to emails if you have questions and is always there to help. I had Strep during finals weeks and she was the only teacher that told me i could take it when i was well again. I love her and would take her again!

I had to take Intercultural Communications for my major. I was not really interested in it, but it turned out to be the BEST class I ever took. The class is A LOT of FUN and it is EASY. I will actually miss going to class if you can believe it.

This class is fairly easy. I took it online. There is three exams and weekly assignments. There is a group project that is broken into parts and is really easy to do if you keep up with deadline, she will give you a lot of time to do it. The exams are multiple choice, not hard, just a lot of information, but you will have plenty of time to do them.

This class was actually interesting and I feel that I learned something. Some of the projects are time consuming though. There are two or three individual projects, a group project, and three exams. It was one of the better online courses I've taken.. Prof Brown is awesome and very helpful. That's probably why there are no negative comments........

It took her in the summer and had her for 2 online classes. One was business and the other was intercultal communications. Suprisingly, the business class was fairly easy with assignments due pretty much every other week and the intercultural classes was a pain in the butt with assignments every week! I took this class online. We had 4 assignments the entire semester (1 of them was a big group project) plus 3 mildly challenging tests. You will ace this class as long as you don't procrastinate and completely follow instructions. She's a very nice professor who really wants you to do well, but I think you will probably learn more in a live class.

TAKE HER CLASS ONLINE! In-person class is extremely overrated even though people form a list for any seats when people drop. Quizzes (2) on movies are tricky. M/C midterm + short answer final. Professor Brown is an angel, i took Public speaking (spc2600) for my art credit, got an A. shes really helpful and nice! i liked her so much that im taking COM3461 with her now. highly recommend, im taking COM3461 fully online with her and she designed it great!

I took this class online, it is very easy as long as you read the material. Theres an assignment due every Tuesday, but its rather easy and so are her test. Everything is open book. I recommend this class.She is a nice professor and responds to emails quickly.

she is extremely nice altho i felt she was not 100% fair in her grading of the speeches. i know my speeches were not as bad as some other ones presented and i got a couple of lower grades for them. maybe she had something against me who knows. but i will recognize that she is helpful and nice, but unfair!!

Took is as a Summer A course and it was great. She's a fantastic teacher who is extremely well traveled and cultured. If you're a nursing major, this will probably be one of the most enjoyable and easiest classes you'll have to take. Absolutely loved her and her class.

It's fairly easy. The midterm, study. NO BOOK. I would definitely recommend all of her classes; especially this one. It opens eyes to other cultures.

Took the class online & it was the easiest thing. Prof Brown is really nice & helpful. The subject isn't hard. You have an assignment due every Tuesday based on either chapters from the book or a video or essay she provides on WebCT & 3 exams. I highly recommend the class & professor.

Dr. Brown she might have days that she might not be able to reply back because she might be teaching other classes at the same time but when it come time to clarify everything and help us she is there and she try her best( she no obligated). recommend her for this class or any pf spc classes.

I do not know what some of you are talking about. She only taught one public speaking class last semester so you were in the same class I was. How can you say you do not think she was clear in her assignments, she gave you handouts, exampes, sample videos? What more do you want? Pay attention, come to class and read the book! This professor is GREAT ONLINE!! "BUT" she is very sensitive with her reviews. What I mean is that if you found a or some mistakes in the reviews don't let her knows, otherwise she can take them off. You get it? Don't complain about that or it would be worse.

Ridiculous! Do not take this lady! She is completely unfair! In her class a 89 is a B and a 90 is an A. I got an 89.5 and she STILL gave me a B!! WTF! Another girl was 2 points away from getting an A in the class (which was her key to nursing school) and she still gave her a B! Totally not a cool teacher. Beware!!

I took an elective class with her 2 years ago and now I am graduating with a minor in Communication Studies b/c of her. I love her classes. She makes everything so clear and understandable and the assignments and activities are useful and not just busy work. I learned a lot! She cares about her students and answers questions night, day, weekends.

I was absolutely in love with this class from the very beginning.It has a few tests on the cultural aspects,definitely TAKE NOTES when she says and study them.Watch the movies and take notes.The end-of-semester presentation can be a lot of fun if you end up with a quality group.I recommend doing a never-done country!(we did the massai in Kenya)

I took this class with someone else and had to drop it. I took the class this past summer with Prof Brown and LOVED IT! The class is so interesting b/c of her. Yes, you need to the book and study-hello we are in college, but she makes the class really interesting. My country was India. I am taking 3 classes with her this fall. She is awesome!

Have you have a class where before you know it the class was over? This was that class. The class meets for 2 hours and 45 min and the entire time I was fasinated with the lectures and short video clips. She uses PP for her lectures and I found out why they are so professional, she also teaches public speaking. Take this class!

I took this class online and as long as you review the chapters on the syllabus you will do well. There are ten weekly assignments that consist of about 3 questions based on the reading. There are two exams with fifty questions each and you're given 2 hours to complete each exam. I would totally recommend this class.

I took this class on-line and it was so easy and straight-forward. There is an assignment each week and they are maybe two to three questions free response and you have four hours to do them, but they don't take long just write what you feel on the question and you get the points. the tests are easy, take some notes on the book and it is easy.

Brown is a great professor. I would highly recommend this class to anyone. It's interesting, fun, and you learn a lot about different cultures. Overall, its a pretty easy class.

when you get your grade back for the test CHECK YOUR ANSWERS, for both the midterm and the final there were answers that were marked incorrectly wrong the assignments are easy i don't think she even reads them in the end i got lazy and wrote w.e and still got an A

I took Intercultural Communication online with her and she was extremely helpful. The class was fun and very interesting. I recommend her. You don't need a textbook and she is always available for help. make sure to always do the weekly assignments on time and study for the final bc is multiple choice but there's not enough time to guess them all.

This is my second semester taking her. I also had her for Public Speaking. I like her so much, I'm minoring in Communications. ALL her classes contain two exams, 50 EASY questions each. Her online classes have weekly assignments. They're about 1-5 questions. That's basically it. She's great and the classes are easy A's. They're great GPA boosters!

I took this class online, and while it wasn't difficult it was just extremely boring. It is 100% out of the book, you have a two question short answer quiz every week and two tests. While it's not difficult it is like I said, 100% book, no online lectures or videos, and the book is EXTREMELY BORING.

This class was really interesting. Brown was a great professor. She's really dynamic and makes the content she teaches totally relatable. She tells a lot of stories. There are only 2 quizzes, 2 exams, and a group project. The only thing I was disappointed was that Brown disappeared for like the last month of class...

If you do not take Prof Brown you are missing out on the BEST prf FIU has to offer. I learned so much in her class. I took it as an elective last semester and now I am taking her again this semester!Her lectures are so interesting and although she will make you work for your grade it is thought provoking assignments that I enjoyed doing.She rocks

Knowledgeable in this subject, very clear to understand. However, being dept chair, she missed quite a few classes (took her in summer A term so not many to begin with). 2 quizzes, midterm, final, group project which SUCKED because felt our group was graded on money we didnt have to spend to make project appear authentic.

I've taken prof Brown both at campus and online. She is amazing. Even online she grades based on whether you show that you read the material, not if you're totally right. Great Professor and worth your time!

Great professor, provides great lectures to learn in class. The midterm and final is based on your notes and she provides a study guide. The homework is submitted online and they are short answer questions (simple). The group project is tedious but doable, it is 40 minutes long but if you can get to at least 30, you'll be fine. Fun Professor.

She's a good professor, but don't confuse good for easy. She gave reviews for the midterm/final but the exams were straight from the book & not her lectures. READ! Her grading is strict for the speeches, but it helps you shape up/ better prepare for the future. She wasn't there for almost half the semester, but all in all it wasn't so bad.

If you are responsible, follow the syllabus, read the instructions then you are going to have ZERO problems with the course. If you miss deadlines, make excuses then it is your fault. She is amazing! She can not give you more material to get an A--just study it and you will get an A.

I took this class online over summer B. At first I was worried because the amount of work looked like a HUGE work load... but I ended up receiving an A in the class with out ever opening the text book. The quizzes are VERY easy and are all things you should know if you live on planet earth. Very simple and highly recommend her for an easy A.

Do your work every week and you will easily get an A. i took her online, she gives two attempts for each grammar and textbook quiz. Very clear on what she expects and understanding with the deadlines. Easy A but a lot of work

Some of the quizzes had to much information to study for only 15 questions!!! The grammar quizzes weren't too hard. You can earn at least 35 extra credit points, which was a plus! You get 2 chances to take the quizzes in case of technical errors, which was helpful.

She is the best teacher for all communication classes. I already took her two times for different courses. Public speaking sucks but she creates the kind of environment that makes it easy. She grades the speeches on a fair level. You get what you deserve. Aside from speeches, we had quizzes but they were pretty easy.

It sounds like an easy class because all it was is grammar and textbook but it was at times difficult. I ended up with an A in the class but I did work hard for it. I took the class online. She gave 35 points extra credit that came in handy. But be careful of the grammar it is tricky..

Straight forward class, every week read the assigned chapters and do a textbook quiz and a grammar quiz. There is also a grammar exam, I found it pretty easy. Extra credit point opportunities every week as well. Don't forget to do the quizzes though, no extensions.

This prof provides you with very clear instructions on what to do. She is always available to help, even in an online environment. She answers questions in detail and quickly. If you do not take a class with her, then you mis out on knowing what it is like to take a class from someone who knows the material they teach, cares about students, enjoys teaching and is dedicate to students. She could not do more for a student. If you do not do well in her class it is because you did not put in the effort into it.

I have taken this professor for 4 different communication classes for my minor, all online. 5 question or less weekly assignments and 2 or 3 exams. I got As in every course and never studied. Take her if you can. The classes are really boring but very very simple. If I needed another class I would take another with her.

I took this class s an elective not knowing anything about it and because of her I am now going to a minor in communication. I have figured out how I can all the required classes with her. She is that good! The only way you do not do well in her class is because you do not read instructions--if your that lazy you should not be in college anyways!

If you did not find Prof Brown helpful, then you are going to have problems in college. She could not be more helpful! She answers questions within hours. It may not be what you want to hear--she has a strict policy on due dates. She gives you all the assignments the first week of class so if you cannot write a 5 page paper within 3 months-well

It's hard to say anything bad about a course as easy as this. One of the easiest "A's" I've ever earned. Literally read what she says to read and answer the questions. Took it online during the summer B semester. Cake straight cake I cannot repeat that enough.

Great Prof!! Fair, answers questions rapidly, provides ample instructions and examples. Course design is laid out nicely and is NOT confusing in the least. You will work in her class and she does NOT give extensions, but she gives you enough time.

Took her online. The course was simple enough. Weekly quizzes (watch a video, answer questions; grammar quizzes). Nothing that taxes the brain, just remember to log in once a week and get it done. I got a B because I forgot I was taking the class several times. If you have a choice, take the class online.

I took this class as part of the Core Curriculum. I am a Chemistry major so Communication is not something I thought about. I am now minoring in Communication because of her and this class--it was that amazing!! I have met with an adviser and figured out how to take most of the classes with her. Absolutely loved the class and her teaching style

Taking two online classes and believe me there is a difference between them. Prof brown answers questions within hours; even on weekends. Her course makes sense as to where everything is. She provides material that helps you learn and by taking it online i do not feel as if am losing out. Wish I could same the same for the other class. Take her

Amazing professor!! That is all I have to say. She is not easy, but she is fair and tells you EXACTLY what is expected so if you do not produce the fault lies with you. She has opened my eyes to things I never thought of before. this is what I thought college would be like and have been disappointed until now. Wish I could take more classes.

I took this totally online. Class is very organized and the professor responds promptly to any questions. Grammar Quizzes and Tests, along with Textbook quizzes make up the bulk of the grade. There are also extra credit opportunities that should help you to get the grade you want. Hopefully I have additional classes with her, really enjoyed this on

The class was one of the best organized classes ever!! She responds to questions within hours. It was not easy, but if you do your work you will be fine. She is very fair. I would take her class again in a minute!

Online only. All you have to do is your weekly assignments, which should be an easy A. There are 3 Tests total, broken up throughout the semester. Use your textbook, which is online on the Pearson website and you are as good as golden. No discussion postings done, which is awesome in my book. The easiest A you will EVER get. Interesting course.

A course that I was expecting to be very boring turned out to be a great class--even though it was online I felt I got to know my prf. She is amazing, helpful and gives relate-able examples. What she will not do is accept ANYTHING after the deadline so pay attention to due dates. Take her you will not regret it!

I enjoyed this class, but if you are poor in grammar then you should avoid this class due to grammar quizzes. .This class is really organized and she also gives plenty of extra credit opportunities.

Just like any other online class many people think they're overloading you with material but it's really not that difficult. You have a week to finish assignments. can be done in one sitting. Professor provides help and most questions that I have seen that went unanswered could have been avoided if people just READ directions!

I have no idea what the people are saying about never hearing back from her. She answers emails within hours. She CLEARLY states on ALL instructions that the DISCUSSION BOARD is for the students to talk amongst themselves as she will not answer questions there. I am not sure how anyone could have missed this IMPORTANT point as it was everywhere

She has policies and deadlines. they are clearly spelled out and it is up to you to follow them. The assignments are not that difficult, just do the work and do not make excuses bc she will not change the policies. she ALWAYS answers questions and help you understand the material even on weekends. She spends time and cares about students

I took the course bc it was the only class I could take that was global and fit my schedule. I am a chemistry major and was not expecting much. I was wrong. The class was great. I enjoyed the material. She was very helpful in my learning (especially considering it was online). Take it and her.

This is the second class i've had with Professor Brown. I had enjoyed another course with her, so i decided to take her again. This course is not easy by any means, there is a lot of material to cover. The Exams get progressively difficult, but if you know the material you should be fine. Its a +- grading scale so it's a bit more challenging.

I loved this class. i thought an online class would be boring and I would have to teach myself by just reading the book, but she made it AMAZING. There is not enough positive things I can say.

I am shocked as to why people are reviewing her poorly. I thought this class was a CAKE WALK! Everything is in the syllabus and you literally have an assignment a week to do, maybe 4-5 questions at the most. SIMPLE. She is also very helpful and responds to questions promptly. I am going to take her for as many classes as I can!

I was not excited to take this class, but it was much more interesting than I had originally thought. I was instantly impressed by the fact that Prof. Brown WROTE the textbook for the class. I took it Summer A. Do your 5 assignments, take the EC syllabus quiz the first week, and write an outline for the textbook for the final and you'll do well.

This class was so easy and interesting. She gives weekly homework but is not so difficult. Yes you have to read, yes you will need to watch the videos provided. But once the homework comes around, its a piece of cake. If you have any concerns, email her and she doesn't take as long. The class itself is interesting.

Very basic online course. I took this for my GL requirement. I am not a Communications major... Clear instructions and simple course. 10 weekly assignments and 3 exams. Assignments can be a little lengthy and she expects you to read the material, not difficult just a bit time consuming. All 3 exams are open book, should be a very easy A for anyone.

Loved it. All you had to do read about 3-4 chapters each week and answer questions about it once a week. Simple and easy. Plus Communication theory is pretty interesting.

Just do the work on time and read the syllabus. Easy A!!

Really enjoyed this class. I would take this class over again because it is so interesting! She's very clear with her grading and assignments/exams. Not too much work, everything was due on Tuesdays. Definitely recommend this professor!

I took Business Communication online and it was straigh forward. She provided a lot of detailed feedback in her grading of the written assignments. I thought I knew how to write, but I was wrong. So for the second assignment I paid more attention to the book instructions and did better. I learned a lot from a class that I thought would be useless.

Class was very interesting! A lot of class work but doable! I took this with 2 other classes and will still receive an A. The etextbook was helpful for the final that was hard but i still got a 90. Use the search bar it'll save you. I learned alot and she's not a tough grader at all.

I took this class for Summer A and it was a fairly easy class. Professor Brown was very kind via email and always emailed us each week about deadlines and such. There were discussion posts every other week and weekly assignments every week. Hardest things were the Midterm and Final. You need the book! Study hard!

Grades on completion. Easy class to pass. Don't miss deadlines, she doesn't let you retake ANYTHING.

She is my favorite prof at FIU. I have taken 3 classes with her and wish I could take more. Follow instructions, do your assignments and you will be fine. I took online and she really made it interesting. She answers emails immediately so you are never left hanging. Take her you will not regret it but you obviously have to do the work.

I enjoyed professor Brown's class a lot. She gave us a lot of fun videos to watch and out of text book material to read. Definitely a very reasonable professor. Do yourself a favor and take her!!

Love Professor Brown! I had her for Intercultural Communications online and I also did Study Abroad Thailand with her this past summer. She is a very reasonable and understanding person and her expectations are very realistic. Highly recommend this Professor especially for Study Abroad! Wait until you see her zip-line backwards through the jungle!

Gotta love a prof who gives you 10 points of EC from an easy Entrance quiz, right off the bat. Not that it's really needed. Her assignments are really interesting and fun to do. Her exams are a little difficult, but doable and open-book. One of the best online profs I've ever had. You won't regret her class.

There are 10 weekly assign (4 short answers questions per week) and 3 exam. The exams are open book and you have 2 hours to complete 50 mult choice questions. You need to study because you cannot look everything up, but reasonable. The short questions are interesting and fun--yes fun. She has cool movie clips about comm from movies we all know.

Hw due every week which cannot be found online. It isn't bad though. Three exams which can be found online. She was easy to stay in contact with and gracious on grading.

Weekly 5 question short/long response answers and 3 exams. As long as you are participating and putting thoughtful, textbook-supported answers with textbook terminology in your answers you will do VERY well! The one downfall is that Joann purposely words tests answers in a way that easily trips you up which almost cost me big time on the first test

Each week you will have 1 homework assignment. She grades on completion- you if you do it- you will get 100%. Tests are very hard though. Two tests (mid term and final) on about 12 chapters. There is no review or anything to help you study. All tests and assignments are 100% from the book.

Awesome class! Read a few chapters a week and do the assignment for that week and you'll pass. Midterm and final exam were easy enough, just make sure you review notes and are prepared for it. Weekly assignments, two discussions, midterm and final. She was very nice!

I have have taken 2 online classes and 2 study abroad classes with her and would take more if I could. She answers questions within a couple of hours. You can open and close the assignment as many times as you want that week. 2 exams and 2 discussion posts. If you do the work you will get a good grade. If you do not, she will not reopen the assignments for you.

The content was interesting enough. Course is an elective course. I am not a communications major. Read the book, answer the short answer questions (due weekly) in detail and the final is open book online. If you want to skip questions and not give detailed answers then your grade will suffer otherwise you are fine. Your grade is in your hand.

She does not give away grades, but do the work and you will receive an A. It is not a difficult class! You need to meet deadlines and do the assignments. The class is organized logically and straightforward. Be responsible and the A is not difficult at all. If you mess up and miss an assignment or submit work that is incomplete, then it is on U.

She answers questions within hours. Cares about students and willing to help. If you blow off the assignments, there is no makeup at the end of the semester when you realize it hurt your grade. She is clear in instructions and assignments, gives you 1 week to answer 4 questions and 3 mult choice open book exams--it is your fault if you fail.

I took this class as an elective because I heard good things about the prof. The prof was great--everything people have posted. Straightforward and clear. Do the work and you can get an A or B--it is not a lot and it is not difficult. The material of class surprised me because I was not expecting it to be as interesting as it was-Amazing content.

Her class is overall easy. A weekly assignment based on the readings and videos. The only downside is the weekly work is completely different from the final. I wish the work was correlated to the final so you knew what to expect. Most of the work throughout the semester is opinion based while the final is factual. The book is very helpful.

My favorite course of the semester, hands down. Class content is interesting, thought provoking, and honestly something everyone should learn as we live in a constantly diversifying world. Definitely put the effort in on the homework and READ/ take notes on the book. Exams (only 3) are open note and the bulk of your grade!

She answers questions within an hour. Super helpful if you do not understand something. I messed up on one of the questions and she reached out to see if I knew info, but expressed it poorly and allowed me to resubmit. Prove you know the material and get a perfect score on the short answers. Do not do it or do not give specifics and it is on you.

I took this class with someone else and missed part of the semester and had to retake it. Took it with Prof Brown and I really enjoyed the topics. The assignments are interesting and easy. Professor Brown's COM3461 class is a breeze if you stay on top of the work. Weekly assignments and open-book exams make it an easy A with minimal effort. The readings can be lengthy, but unstuckstudy ai helped me breeze through the prep.
