Not my favorite professor. She really pushes you to the point of feeling like you don't want to study biology anymore. If you like being pushed, she's your professor. If you don't, avoid taking her. She gives alot of work (5 exams, 2 finals lab/lecture, 10 quizzes, a podcast assignment, a powerpoint presentation) and is a tough grader. Good luck.
Honestly, Dr. Giza is the first professor who actually taught me something. I retained almost everything that she taught. She's such a good professor. She wants everyone to do their best and come out of their comfort zone. I would take all my bio classes with her if I didn't epermit. 10/10 from me.
Very knowledgable and Caring. She looks out for everyone in the class. Even during the busiest time of the semester, she made sure she was there for every student. A true gem and asset to BMCC. Very fair in terms of grading. Amazing communicational skills during lecture. Very clear. I could not have asked for a better professor for A&P II.
If you are a lazy person is better for you to do no take this class. You will need to read a lot and study hard if you want to pass. Just for people that really wants to learn. This class teach you many of the systems of the body and most of the laboratories are dissections.
believe the reviews! professor giza values her students' opinions and will listen to all your concerns. She also gives a good amount of extra credit and is a fair grader.
Professor Giza was the best prof I had at BMCC. She was very helpful, caring and understanding of our struggles. She gave us the opportunity to get an extra credit and her explanations were super helpful. 10/10 from me! A true gem at BMCC. Take her and you will really learn something. I wish I could take all my classes with her.
Prof. Giza is a great professor with extensive knowledge in biology. She does not like laziness and makes you work hard for your grade. Make sure to attend her classes and listen to whatever she says. She is also a tough, but reasonable grader with extra credit. You have to apply critical thinking, tests are not all multiple choice.
Great professor! Very intelligent, great sense of humor. Cares about her students, organizes career seminars and puts you in touch with recruiters, MDs and other researchers. Her lectures are not only outdated dry textbook info. We even learned a lot about the coronavirus during our immunology lectures and not what was on the news!
Professor Giza makes all her lectures synchronous . Honestly, after I started taking the classes this semester, I appreciate her even more. She was always there for us, extremely supportive, inspiring and motivating. I don't know if BMCC has any other professors that can come even close, I did not meet them yet.
I had Professor Giza last semester for my BIO220. I cant say enough good things about her. Yes, she makes you work hard, but it is worth it. She is an excellent lecturer and loves Teaching. She brings her passion to the classroom and it is contagious . Even though I didnt get an A, I know that I got the grade I deserved. You wont regret it.
She is my favorite professor. Even though I am not getting an A in this class (my fault), I think she is doing an excellent job with online lectures and labs. They are never boring , it is always fun to listen how this class relates to our lives and she knows exactly what she's doing as oppose to some other professors that are clueless online.
I took Ms. Giza for Spring 2020, and we had to transition from in-person classes to online. This is by far the best professor I've ever had. She is incredibly inspiring, has a lovely humor and incredibly respected. She was strict in the best way. I can go on forever. Please take her if you have the chance. And don't let her intimidate you! :)
She is a fantastic professor. She made online learning incredibly fun, interesting and interacting unlike other instructors. She helps literally every student and cares about everyone. She is brilliant and funny.
She is a phenomenal professor. She is very tough but for all the good reasons she makes you work for your grades to the point where you learn so much. I would definitely recommend!!!
The ratings that I have seen for this Professor is totally in match to what I have experienced, I have been out of schoool for 6 years and the way she she teaches students is on a higher level. She has no consideration to what people may know already in science she teaches all students as if they learn the same or should know the work automatically
The ratings do not match what I experienced. Professor Giza is nice but she is heavy on lectures from the textbook. Her exams are not easy and you have to stay on top of labs because there are lab exams,
Professor Giza is the best! She really prepares you for what's to come. It is a science major class. I don't know why some people take it as an elective. Lot of work is expected. Duh, it is science class.
Do yourself a favor and take her if you want to learn something. She is brilliant. Like other review said, it is for science majors. I am planning to go to PT , so Im on a pre-med track.
It is not an easy class for sure, but it is COLLEGE people! I love her, she 's tough, but fair and gives extra credit.
She definitely makes you work for it, but is super fair. She always tests on what she teaches. This is a class for science majors, not intro bio, so yes it is at the higher level. Can't wait to take BIO220 with her in a Fall.
She is one of the worst professors I ever had. In her 3 hours long class, she gives way too much information without testing and asking her students if they are following her. She just talks in the meeting without any feedback from her students. Her exams are made up of trick, critical questions from which we have no idea where to study from.
She is the best ! Take her if you want to learn something. This class is for bio majors . Not the easiest class , but prepares you very well!
She really makes you think. Not just simply memorizing without understanding. All her exams come from the slides and what she talked about . Never tests you on things she didnt discuss . Very fair!
Just signed up for her BIO220 class . Shes great! Finally I started to understand science classes.
I work very hard in this class and it drives me crazy that the lazy people who shouldt even be in this class complain . Some of these comments dont make any sense . You must be missing half of the lectures, because she constantly asks her students questions and makes classes entertaining. All her exams come from her lectures.
BMCC is very lucky to have her ! She is very caring about the students and tries to accommodate and help everyone
Cant wait to take her BIO220 class!
I have not found more caring professor as of yet.
This is not an easy class and it is a lot of work, but you are getting really well prepared for your premed courses!
I took the BIO220 with her last semester. Best class ever!
This class gave me a lot of stress. Professor Giza makes you work for it. This is a hard class but she gives extra credit and she grades thorougly. It's a science class, it will obviously be hard. Her tests are from her powerpoints and she gives practice questions before the exam. You have to buy a textbook for this class.
The best class ans best prof I ever took at BMCC. It was t easy, but I loved it!
Professor Giza is simply the best. She cares about her students and only tests on what she taught . Yes, it is a tough class and tons of material, but its really worth it.
Great class, but yeah it is tough
Don't believe everyone comments and ratings. Great professor, but the work was intense. All exams are details written out. Labs are multiple choice. Lecture exams good luck for real for real! If you are not interested in science for real for real good luck man ! This was crazy ! ode crazy coming from yours truly this was outtaline ! I pray for you
The material for this class was super hard but prof. Giza is great. If you love science, you'll love the class I'm sure but I felt like I was in med school or something at times. I didn't do well on any of the exams but I did all the work/extra credit/participated and got a B though, she's not at all unreasonable and grades on work-ethic.
She was the best prof I had taken at BMCC. She truly knows what she is teaching and if you work hard, you can get an A even if you had few hiccups along the way. Most of the people I studied with got an A.
Truly loved this class, I learned so much. She is amazing!
Loved her class. It wasnt easy, but shes very engaging and truly cares about her students . Take her and you wont regret it. It is a lot of work but so would be any BIO220, but Im glad I took it with her .
Great professor, not an easy class, but definitely worth taking. She inspired me to proceed with my medical school dreams.
I didnt even realize how much appreciate this professor , because no one I am taking right now comes even close . Shes the best !
First half of the semester was seamless, second half of the semester was not. Requirements for assignments were not provided in a timely fashion. When questions were asked, the responses from the professor were condescending and insensitive. While a good professor who wants students the learn, the class was too stressful for a 200 level bio course
Doesn't like to respond to your emails. Her words are law, super condescending when speaking to students. Also might have Alzheimer's cause she never remembers what she says.
I love her . She is very knowledgeable and cares about her students. So happy I took this class, because I feel really prepared to apply to my PT program .
I worked so much, but I really learned a lot
This class was a lot of work but I'm really glad I took class with her. Professor Giza is engaging, passionate about her subject, wants you to learn and is very approachable and helpful. She also gives good feedback and there's a good amount of extra credit. Participate in class, study, try hard and you'll do well. I learnt so much!
Professor Giza believes every student could pass her class. She adds extra credit for many assignments and is willing to work with students to bring up grades.
Simply the best, I learned so much and got so motivated! Best class I ever took at BMCC.
She is not clear when teaching. Gives pre quizzes for lab w/o teaching the material first. Exams cover material in depth, which was not taught. Does not provide additional resources to study from and asks random questions. Grading is very subjective. Reads off slides and never checks for understanding in lesson. Test dont match hw nor book.
Professor Giza doesn’t follow the textbook entirely. Claims review sheet is useful, but doesn’t give clear expectations. Expects two essays in open ended part of exam and multiple choice is based off of topics she hasn’t gone over. She doesn’t teach everything she has on exams. If you want to fail, this is your professor. BEWARE
Positive reviews must be fake. Awful because she doesn’t teach the material. You have to use google and watch other people go over the material to learn, because she doesn’t cover the material the right way or at all. Will test you on a lot of topics she has not gone over and are not in the textbook.
Whois lying here? SHES THE WORSTTTTT! She gave us an exam that was never in lecture or even in the book!! Then she expects us to write up a 5 page 2 question critical thinking essay for the second part of the exam! RUNNN RUNNNNNNN IF U SEE THE NAME JOANNE GIZA RUNNNNNNNNNNN
The professor does not care about your education what so ever! She gives you work, exams and quiz as if your already a triple major in science. She aims to make your semester miserable filled with anxiety, panic attacks and depression! She aims to make sure you fail.
This is the first time I’m given a professor review, but when I tell you run please do, she is very difficult, she quizzes u before u start a chapter and the exams that she gives us are two-part, one for multi questions, which even if u study it will be very hard to pass the exam. the second one is an essay. she want u to write at least 2 pages.
Personally, I think this class is a waste of money. Although she does explain clearly what she teaches, You must be ready to take the quizzes EVERY SINGLE WEEK and she would make you write six-paragraph essays on the same day you would be taking an exam.
I don't think I ever had more caring and more helpful professor. She gives us review questions and tests on the material discussed in class. Everyone in our class loves her.
Her exams are very fair. I enjoyed the class.
Love this professor, she recommended us the clubs I never even heard about. I learned about so many opportunities , I wish I took her sooner. Yes, we have some students that shocks me how they even got to this class and passed BIO425. Must be the online cheating, but I got accepted to nursing , this is my career, great professor was big plus!
Love this class, she helps us so much with extra credit opportunities, review questions. I never had that from other professors. I am always there during her office hours and it is so helpful.
I took BIO220 with her . I took it in the past with someone else and hated it, but with her I really started to like it. Don't get me wrong, it was tough, but worth it. Just got accepted into the NYU scholarship. Yay!
My favorite professor at BMCC, super approachable and help her students
This has to be one of the worst professors I have ever taken. Very rude, ONLY helps who she wants, and just reads off the slides during lecture. She literally will give so much work that she can not even keep up with grading. There are extra-credit opportunities, probably the only good thing about the class. Half the class dropped the class.
Really good professor, i enjoyed this class. It was a lot of work but well worth it if you are applying for the nursing program.
I took BIO220 with her and she was great. It was tough but I got an A and really enjoyed her class. Get ready to work !
Great Professor, works with her students. Really hard class but will prepare you for your medical journey. Stay on top of your work. Extra-credit opportunities available. Great experience! Caring Professor!
Dr Giza is amazing! I love her so much! If your going to nursing school, she will help prepare you by thinking critically in her class.Yes, there are long answer questions on her exams, and this class was not easy. But if you study, go to her office hours ,and participate, you will do well.
I took BIO220 with Prof Giza. Loved her class. Im going to premed program at Hunter, so this class was definitely helpful. Caring professor.
Best class, best professor
Literally loved her! Tons of work, but still my favorite class
The experience taking her was absolutely awful. She reads off of slides, but does not explain anything in detail. When asking for help beware, as she responds sarcastically, as if you are beneath her. Her reasoning for being so difficult and not teaching the material properly is that students cheat. She rates herself stating she's brilliant.
Took her for the summer, so she was more lenient. She's very understanding of how stressed we are and how intense the class is. She reads off the slides, and participation matters A LOT because it counts as a test grade. She drops one exam grade. She can be sarcastic, but I liked how she taught us how important it is to advocate for our health.
Professor Giza was a very fair grader. She really knows her stuff and is very understanding and helpful. I actually thought this class was very interactive and a lot of fun. I will miss her.
Professor Giza is an outstanding professor. She is such a caring professor. If you are looking for knowledge and the material to stick in your brain beyond this class, then I strongly recommend taking this class. She is one of the best professors at BMCC. I promise you won't regret it! She will prepare you for the nursing program.
Professor Giza is one of the best professors. Her love for teaching and making her students engaged is above all. She is very approachable and understanding, you can't go wrong with taking her. Like many other reviews, be ready to work for your grade. She gives you the support you need to get through her class and will be worth it in the end. F21
Dr. Giza is so kind and passionate about the topic that you will really enjoy her lectures . Great sense of humor . Compassionate towards students. It felt so good to finally be taught by a person, who understands your struggles . Will miss her a lot!
She rocks !
u NEED to do ur work, shes one of the best profs b/c she always engages w/ all students, she is the queen. byeee. word of advice, don't push the exams bc its gonna f u up later in the semester w/ the last exam and final and lab practical.
A gem to BMCC. Exams based off of powerpoint lectures (4 exams and one gets dropped), lots of opportunity for extra credit, and pre lab quizzes based off each weeks lab. If you did the work and show you cared, its a pretty easy class considering the heavy material. DEFF take her!
She is tough but she is extremely through. I love her class. Pay attention to her lectures and powerpoints. Ask questions and listen to questions asked she has no prob, explaining. Dr. Giza gives extra credit and it helps. Participate Participate be very interactive. Be an A- student you will get an A. She is Very Nice, I like her.
She rocks , best prof ever , so inspirational. You will understand the material very well and be prepared for the Hesi if you take it after .
Very caring prof
Great lectures ! Always interesting discussion . Hardly ever saw her reading from the slides . The class was tough and a lot of work , but she is very fair
Very compassionate and approachable , working with her students . She held review sessions during office hours. She did everything in her power to help the students . I wish BMCC had more professors like this .
Professor Giza is the best! She is amazing and a great lecturer; I felt that I was able to focus in class because she made the material super interesting. Take her you will not regret it!
here to combat the bad reviews, yall r probably good for nothings who don't know how to study. Madame Giza is quite literally one of the best profs @ BMCC
Love her!
It was a lot of work , but her lectures were very engaging and fun. This professor is so kind and works with the students. When we had another test on the same day , she would move the test . Take her if you have a chance , you will be well prepared for Hesi . I genuinely miss her now that I am in a nursing program .
Lot of extra credit opportunities to boost your grade .
I am a student at Stony Brook and took her last summer. The best decision I ever made.
After having survived a summer semester with Dr. Giza I can safely say she'll go down as one of my favorite science professors, and trust me the list is very small. She cares about the subject she teaches, and her breadth of knowledge on it attest to that. Listen carefully, take notes, do the homework. Her tests are heavily based on what she says!
Her slices ARE NOT useful, you won't find many helpful definitions in them. She posts many review questions before exams but the slice can't help you to understand, needs to heavy googling. She tells to take notes during class but who'll understand the complicated spelling biological words before knowing them. She's nice but could do better.
She's a great teacher. Her test aren't easy-multiple choice, short answers, mini essays. Quizzes almost every week for lab (so attendance matters). She's thorough, funny, and you actually learn (just those exams ☹️)
This course is not for the weak. Very unorganized. Exams will be during lab, no real review, just questions that you have to Google because the slides from lecture don't make sense. Group projects will save your grade. Very harsh grader so double check everything. To do homework it's $100 for Mastering Biology, so save up for it beforehand.
I decided to take Bio 2 at bmcc and Dr.Giza is very knowledgeable and clear with what needs to be done. By far the best professor I had.
Very disorganized. Her slides are just pictures from the textbook and not much else. She does not clearly explain the topic. She does not provide a study sheet before exams. She picks her favorites with whom she gets along, and the rest are just ignored. She tests on material she did not explain or had not covered. TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR!
Dr. Giza is an amazing professor and really caring. The lectures are very fun! I would definitely recommend taking her.
DR. Giza uses a student centered approach that engages students in learning, enriching an educational environment for students. Dr. G is a Scientist with a passion for teaching, her interaction and interest in your learning experience will motivate you. The classroom atmosphere is always positive, great rapport with students, finds time to talk.
Overall I can say the course was average. Just be ready you will write more eassy.
She is a good professor, a lot of extra credit, makes you know and remember the lesson for the rest of your life.
Dr. Giza is an amazing professor! She explains complex topics clearly and always encourages questions. Her lectures are organized, and her exams are fair if you study
Professor Giza is very supportive and makes learning enjoyable. Her classes are interactive, and she uses great examples to explain difficult topics. She's always available for help and gives useful feedback. I learned so much and felt confident the whole semester!
Dr. Giza is a passionate scientist. Her teaching style was professional & engaging. She was receptive to feedback & willing to work with us to ensure our understanding of Bio. She related Biology to real life situations which lead to students being invested in learning. She made a daunting course fun! She's funny, witty, and incredibly intelligent.
Be ready for essay during her exam, and her multiple questions are not easy , she will give questions as study guide but you will have to memorize all the slide or chapter because her MCQ are not easy, she is nice but unprofessional and embarrass people in front of other classmates
I took her for biotech (BTE 201). The course work is a lot, but you'll come out knowing how to critical think because she wants you to use your brain instead of just doing mindless tasks. Everything is mostly on her slides so you have to really absorb the material
Very understanding and respectful professor, as well as conversational! Class wasn't easy, but biotech isn't meant to be, and she definitely didn't go out of her way to make it harder. Heard us out when we asked her to change her class plans. Gave us points back when we found mistakes in exams. Tough exams but minimal homework/lab reports.
Professor Giza has a very thorough teaching style, taking the time to ensure everyone understands the material before moving on. She is also approachable and always available to answer questions promptly.
Professor Giza has a unique teaching style in that she focuses on critical thinking. Their exams reflect this by testing your ability to apply the concepts learned and think critically. This course, especially the lab, is a great foundation for biotechnology and hands-on skills. I would be happy to have Professor Giza as a professor again.
Her lectures are well-organized, and she's always willing to help students during office hours or over email. She encourages critical thinking and real-world application of biotechnology, which made the class not only educational but also enjoyable. Highly recommend her to any student interested in biotech!
Dr. Giza is a very knowledgeable professor with first-hand experience from the world of biotechnology. If you follow the lectures, the exams are not that difficult. She also provides good information to help you navigate your next steps in academics.
Exams are based on what she says during lecture, PowerPoint slides, and the review questions she posts. Her exams are MCQs and essay questions; her multiple choice questions can be tricky as well. She drops the lowest exam grade and gives out extra credit, which should help your overall grade. Study hard and you will pass.
Dr. Giza is an amazing professor but she is very thorough and her lectures are all talk, and participate and she does have an accent. The only thing I hate is she plays a lot of games, so i didn't like that. She does drop one exam, multiple choice exams plus some writing. She does offer extra credit but extra credit has to be exactly correct!
Be prepared to write 2-3 paragraphs. she does give out extra credit and drops one test grade. Very disorganized and doesnt respond to emails. Exams are based on what she speaks about during lecture (her exam reviews are pointless) . If you study , you will pass. She does know her stuff and gives examples to help us understand the material more.
Dr. Giza's is entertaining and makes examples to relate to the material for learning. On the other hand, she is unorganized. The MCQ exams are tricky, I suggest bringing a red pen to carefully read each question and answer choice. The short answers questions are given beforehand. The connect assignments are worth an exam grade which is awesome.
She gives too much work with little time and her exams are very hard, with both written and multiple-choice parts. Review questions never match the test. She's unreasonable, unorganized, and shows no remorse for students. She doesn't understand that students learn differently and makes learning stressful. I wanted to drop her class so bad.
Absolute GOAT, but she can be intimidating for some people. BIO 426 is dense, but it's clear that she wants you to understand the subject and how it all works together. Not an easy A, but definitely doable if you do extra credit + take the work seriously. She drops lowest exam also. If you want to actually learn, she's absolutely worth taking.
Professor Giza has inspired me in so many ways with her passion for science. She is very cooperative and responsive and always willing to listen to any valid concerns. My favorite thing about her is that is she just as much willing to learn from her students. But, you have to be committed and willing to learn.
