The things you write about are cool topic her prompt are just vague
some pretty weird topics..umm theres an inclass essay instead of a final. I thought it was a pretty easy class...lots of group work and essays umm..no tests and she gives quizs only if she finds that students didn't "read" the assignments
Kind of boring class. Most of her work is short two page papers once or twice a week. there are also longer papers that have to be 5 pages. those sucked. her topics are very vage and hard to write a 5 page paper on them.
Worst teacher. She had not control over the class and no clear goal of the class
Makes you read stupid essays out of a book, 3 5 page essays, mid term and final are in class essays, she doesn't really help you, and shes horrible at teaching in general. DO NOT TAKE HER!
class was very boring no one ever wanted to participate. you have journal writtings almost every class time for homework.
She is very unfair because of her grading. She is not helpful at all DONT TAKE THE CLASS EVEN IF YOU THINK SHE'S NICE SHE WILL FAIL YOU.
Wow.so the comments below are, like, pretty much ridiculous. This teacher helped me out a lot.She takes a real interest in your grade and tries to get everyone involved in class discussions. She even offered extra credit.Shes def. a fair grader. by the way there were black kids in my class and she never ever treated them different than anyone else.
She's nice, friendly and helpful. she's really serious about following the rule and stuff though.
She's really nice and down to earth. She really cares about her students. She won't let you put off your essay until the last minute which is great. 4 essays 1 laid back presentation. Not a good class for those who are lazy though. Attendance is mandatory.
She is very cool and funny but is serious with attendance; it counts against your grade. 4 essays, 1 presentation, 2 in class essays and plenty of journals. She also requires visits to the Writing Center. She helped make me a better writer! Highly recommended unless you don't like doing a lot of work.
great teacher!!! not to hard and connects with the students great if you ask for help. 1/5 of the class is attendance and talking in class, so if you like to state your opinion great class
she is a very chill professor. she is strict but not mean. She is willing to help and is friendly. her work isnt entirely hard, but if it is she is there to help. Dont worry if you get her, she is a cool teacher
Was a very hard grader and strict. Don't take this class
Was a hard grader and strict.
good professor doesn't allow you to slack off she keeps reminding you the consequences if you fail. She pretty cool and gets along with the class. Only thing that i didn't like was that she was a strict grader but other than that she is a cool professor :)
She is difficult, grades pretty hard for 101 class. I wouldn't recommend her.
Dont take her class if you dont want a bad grade. Even she is nice to you in her class, she's super hard on grading. Her class is boring than ever.To be honest, she does not help you at all with your essay. Don't waste your time on asking her questions,an unclear response is what you will get.
Her class is pretty easy for ENG 99M, anyone can pass this class. She's really friendly and doesn't give out a lot of homework.
She is a really tough grader and very picky about grammar. She is a good teacher and you will learn a lot but do not take this class if you are looking for an A. My personal opinion is that she should be teaching at a 200 or 300 level and that her class is to intense for a 100 level.
She is one of the best professors Ive ever had. She was so helpful and nice. I learned alot about writing. Do the best you can and she will help you improve.
She has a bit of an attitude. She can be pretty rude & a tough grader. I got a C on my 1st essay, but she lets you redeem it. I ended up getting an A-. Then, I got an A and an A+ on the following essays. I feel HORRIBLE because I gave her a really bad review in class. But, tbh, she's picky, a tad rude, but if you follow her rules, you'll do well.
This teacher is not so bad. I too, searched her up on Rate My Professors and thought, "oh god, shes a hard teacher." I had to take her class because it fit within my schedule. Honestly, She's not so bad. If you do your work and attend class, you can't fail. Shes a tough grader, but nothing too strict. If you want an A, you must want it!
Its a very difficult 100 level class. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE IF YOU CAN!!She is rude too and not very understanding
Her class was honestly not bad. She is kind of rude and a little picky but she's not too terrible. She just is a little rude but hey oh well.
It's not really hard, A LOT of revising. You will work on the computers, every day you have class. Sometimes she tries too hard to make us laugh. Overall this class is not that bad. Not my favorite, but I don't hate it. Advise: Buy Rules of Thumb book don't rent it, has a lot of great tips for writing.
Horrible class. She expects way too much from a beginning english class. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE. She made my semester hell.
She is awkward in that she always waits for someone to answer her when for a discussion. She grades decently but doesn't really help you on a closer basis. She does however allow you to make up some points and gives some extra credit.
She is a hard grader, but as long as you do your work you will pass. She gives extra credit so make sure you do that. Very helpful, has conferences often for essays.
She is rude and talks condescendingly when you ask a fair question. She straight up doesn't teach and is really vague...which makes the class impossible because she doesn't take questions well. She'll say she expects one thing on your work, but then she'll grade as if she expected something else. CSUF, please revoke her teaching credentials.
I read the reviews on here about her and honestly her class is super easy. She offers extra credit and the essays we wrote were simple. You basically do them in class. I turned in an essay the day after I was hung over and I got a 90 on it. The final was basically a reflection. Take her, easy A if you do the work.
Honestly, the worst professor I've taken to this day at CSUF. She in inconsistent with grading, very unclear with what she wants. She cant articulate her thoughts into clear directions and attendance is mandatory otherwise she marks off points. Check the syllabus for details. Not to mention shes god awful boring and corny jokes. Take someone else.
Don't take this class!! It's like high school, the time spent in class is completely pointless but attendance is mandatory. And she is the only professor I've had who enforces it- I got an 85% in the class, which she dropped to a C because I missed or was late twice. It is also nearly impossible to get an A because the grading is so subjective.
She always wants you to stop by her office, but she wont help you when you are there. Overall a nice person, but teaching is not really for her. She was a bit disorganized but would usually answer all questions when you ask her. A grade drop for every 2 absences.
If you like to skip class, don't even bother trying to pass the class. She is nice and all, but she is so confusing. She will say one thing to do for your essay and then the next time you show her with her suggestion in it, she questions why you did that.
Passed with an A- but had to WORK for it. Do the small homework assignments because those points add up. Essays aren't that bad but she doesn't give much feedback, it felt like I was my own professor most of the time. The writing center gave more help. She's not clear with what she wants from us in her assignments either, always had students lost.
Mrs. M is a fair grader, HOWEVER if you do not show up to class do not expect to pass the class. She's probably the only instructor on campus that actually takes attendance. Also, don't miss deadlines for assignments. She is very understanding when grading, easy final which involves revising an essay. No quizzes just essays with revision
this is the worst class you would ever take in college.
The worest class I'v ever taken. Basically her goal in this class to not pass her students as much as she can especially the international students. Gives alot of homework that are not helpful just wasting time. Also if you take her class make sure with every homework you did make sure she gives you credit for it.
She takes attendance and if you don't buy the book she takes points for everyday you don't have it until the end of the semester. How to Pass 1. Go to Her office hours get to know her and she will grade you easy . When the whole class told her we needed an extra day for our essay she gave it to us which was cool of her we did this twice in the sem
By far the worst teach at CSUF. Avoid her at all cost. She treats everyone like we're in elementary school. For an intro to English she expects too much from us. All my friends who took this class with a different teacher said it was an easy class. This teacher assigns a lot of homework, especially for the weekends.
Mrs.M is cool as a person but not as a teacher i missed her class once and she told me I wasn't going to pass but i continued to attend to her class. At the end of the semester I didn't pass. She has her own format to write essays if you don't follow it you wont pass the class. There so much homework that's unnecessary.
Expect homework, and two long essays throughout the semester, waste of paper I must say. There are tons of outlines and reading, which all students put in the category of busy work. She is a nice lady, but not one of the best teachers.
She's nice but kind of awkward. She assigns a lot of unnessesary homework, it is really pointless and repetitive. She is unclear with directions and an unreasonable grader. Personally would not recommend taking her because her class is just flat out frustrating.
She is a good teacher. She's always available if you need help and ask questions but make sure to utilize your resources. She is a very sweet lady and the class isn't hard if you aren't a slacker and pay attention.
She's a great person and a professor with a great teaching foundation. All the work she has you do is all to help you become a better writer. However, if you don't like English or find it hard, it may be difficult to keep up with the work load.
She's the most awkward professor I have ever had, but that is not why I gave her a bad rating. She assigns way too much pointless busy work and treats you like you're in Kindergarten. It doesn't matter how good your essay is, all that matters is all the pointless work.
She is a nice professor and willing to help you, but there's too much homework. And it's hard to meet her requirement, so I have to fix my essay again and again. This course takes me a lot of time to pass.
Easy class but tons of homework and busy work assigned. She treats the class like you're in kindergarten. She's awkward but she's willing to help. She's alright but I wouldn't take her again
She was not a good professor I don't recommend taking her unless you want to be stressed out! Worst professor ever! Difficult grader also!
She is the definition of busy work. You're expected to revise your essay over and over again, despite all the work you'll still get a subpar grade. Also she's awkward for example she tries to throw out a joke every once in a while but it's extremely cringy.
Very approachable. Lots of assignments. Gives great feedback. Always there to help. Super friendly. Very passionate about her job
Worst prof at CSUF ive ever had. She only cares about busy work and is very disrespectful. Didnt let me make up my work when I had an emergency
Ms. Matuszewski is a really hard grader on homework and essays. This professor is not organize and not clear on the homework. There is always homework and is required to go to the writing center. Attendance is mandatory. There is always group discussion. Textbook is required at all times. The comments on the essays are very harsh.
Not clear on what she wants with assignments. If you ask for help she will refer you to the textbook. Very, very tough grader, and LOTS of busy work. We did 3 papers (4-6 pages) plus works cited and bibliography. A couple of in class essays, lots of reading and annotating plus reading responses. Attendance is very important. She's sometimes nice?
Joanna is sweet, but a harsh grader. The class consists of 3 essays, Reading Responses, and Summaries for small readings and the book is mandatory. Each essay is divided into several drafts where she makes you revise it and turn it in for points. The book is mandatory. She gives two extra credit assignments.
Very tough grader. If you do end up taking the class, do not wait until last minute to write your drafts/ papers. Every little detail is analyzed and graded. Attendance is part of your grade as well.
Feel terrible when ask questions.
you will lose your points because of laughing in the class, you will lose your participation points because she just "feels like" you are not following. Assignments are not cleared all the time. In her version a good student is "no talking"just do what I said" "you should not have your own opinions for my lecture"
Even William Shakespeare would receive a bad grade in her class. Shes one of the toughest graders Ive ever had and the most critical one. If youre looking to destroy your GPA then taker her class!
The worst GE class. Horrible teacher with no respect for her students. Incredibly unclear on instructions and doesnt even know herself what exactly she is looking for in our papers. Makes you feel stupid for asking questions. Is not compassionate or understanding one bit. Extremely tough grader for easy GE level papers. SAVE YOURSELF. Do not take.
Do not take her unless you want to have random assignments and irrelevant essays. She takes attendance and has quickwrites that if you miss are a big part of your grade. YOU CANNOT SKIP THIS CLASS EVER. As a person, she is nice, but as a professor no! She grades so hard for no reason and is not helpful with feedback. I would not take her again.
On the bright side she is very accessible outside of class hours. But the only issue is, no matter how much help you ask for from her, tutoring, and peer review, it seems receiving an A or B on a paper is impossible. She is very clear on what she wants in a paper, you do it right but youll get docked a lot. Care for your GPA and sanity? dont take
Joanna was a great teacher this semester. She is very approachable for anything be it question, comment, or concern. Her grading is very fair and she tells you exactly what she wants. It was a fun class and the essay prompts are very fun writes. I encourage you to take this class if you are thinking about it!
Professor M was one of the best teachers I've had this semester. She is very understanding about her students' situations and is willing to help out any way she can. The essay topics for this course were very fun, and she gives you enough time to complete them. Despite the pandemic, her class was a good introduction to college courses!
Professor M is a great person but she gives an absurd amount of HW. I am usually a great student and like to turn in everything on time but it was very overwhelming. I understand this is an upper division english class but she grades extremely hard for the instructions given on the rubric. Like I said, I love her personality but tough class.
Lots and lots of group activities, very much a discussion class! All assignments are credit/ no credit, with no late work accepted. B ready to do lots of in-depth essays along with lots of homework.
Prof. M does give a lot of busy work that is frustrating and time consuming BUT I would not say this is a hard English college course. She is very open to any questions you may have and does give back valuable feedback on each assignment. I didn't love the class but it is definitely easy to pass! I would honestly recommend taking her online course
Although her grading is a bit harsh, you only do about 3 essays during the term and everything else is graded on if you did it or not. Shes really understanding for absences and is really sweet about your mental health. Definitely take this class for an easy A/B, or if you want a chill english class!!!
We get Grammarly Premium for free as students. Run your trash rough draft essays through that program (and dont just hit the check mark on every suggestion, only like 50% of the suggestions Grammarly makes are useful) and youll be fine. I spent 1 to 2 hours a week working on essays and I passed with a 96% in the class.
READ THE SYLLABUS. She has a lot of requirements in the middle of the syllabus that if you aren't doing, you won't pass. Cant have any unexcused absences, have to be active on the canvas page a certain amount of days per week, etc. Essays and classwork are easy, lectures are boring, you're basically sitting there the whole class period.
She is a a nice person, but a terrible teacher. She gave lots of random assignments, which were very repetitive as well. Forget asking her a question, because you will leave more confused. Always contradicting in her expectations for each assignment. So much unnecessary work and she would take off so many points. Would not take this class again.
Very kind person but I dislike her as a professor. Whenever i would ask a question i felt as if she would not directly answer it and would consistently leave me more confused. lectures are extremely boring. The work is relatively easy.
Overall she is a nice person as many comments pointed out her work is graded way to niche and hard. It's almost impossible to get an A for an essay or even a B at that. On one of the essay i took a look at the class average and it was a 78 which is a C. The way her prompts and requirement is its like she expects everyone to be english majors.
Class feels like high school and attendance is mandatory. Honestly, her reviews seem skewed by people who did not try in class. She can get very nitpicky but it's not too bad of a course. Three essays and she gives a lot of time to edit them in class before turning them in. Just do the work and follow the rubric and you will be fine.
She shows to care for her students who want to do well in her class. Respect goes both ways for her. If you wanna try and do well in her class she will give you that respect back. If you are slacking off she might not be so lenient with you. Attend her class and follow the rubric for the three essays and you will be good
This professor ruined my college life. she didn't even care what situation I was in and just grade all the assignments toughly
Professor M is very caring. As long as you put in effort, you'll be just fine. She wants everyone to succeed and gives very good feedback. You work on essays in class, and she clearly explains what she expects from them. She is very understanding as long as you make an effort in her class.
She aint give me a grade just because my citation is not to her linking.
If you come from an honors high school or are a good writer the class will feel over simplified, but it's easy enough. If you do not, the materials she goes over is all the essentials. She is awkward but she'll respect you if you put effort in. Three different major papers and lots of small assignments, keep track of things and you'll be fine.
Super nice, but she tended to explain directions confusingly so I got lost in what was happening in class. The work is light 3 essays and annotated bibs, no finals or tests. You do need to use a Macmillan program and do the assignments, but it isn't too bad. She does conference meetings so after ur conference there's no class. Overall she's good
English101P- One of the more laid back professors I have had. She likes when you ask questions or come to office hours- and you will probably need to because her directions can be confusing. Doesn't like when students are late or skipping class. Provides 1 day grace period on most assignment turn ins.
She's honestly a really caring professor and listens to you but you do have to go to her class. You can't miss more than 4 classes and she does make you work with your group mates. Otherwise, I loved her and the class was somewhat easy. The textbook is required because we also use it for homework and quiz submissions.
Really laidback until you show that you don't care about the class. Grading criteria was never straightforward and additional questions were always needed to get a real idea of what she wanted. Tough grader, no one ever got a perfect score. Can't miss more than 4 classes or else you won't pass. Overall was an okay professor but wouldn't take again.
She is an amazing professor she is caring and emails back quickly, her lectures were easy to comprehend. Ask a lot of questions, sometimes the criteria for essays can get confusing. 4 essays overall with practice tests on the online textbook. Don't miss more than 4 classes, work hard and ask questions; overall amazing class with a great professor.
She's nice but very focused on participation. Even if she cancels class, she expects you to use that time for coursework. If you miss a class, she expects you to attend office hours. The class is easy but has a lot of work: 3 essays, 1 annotated bib, annotated readings, quizzes, and a required meeting with a writing tutor.
She's a nice lady but be prepared to write or revise an essay every week. I would not recommend taking this professor if you have a heavy workload or difficult classes. Most weeks had 6+ plus assignments due, including quizzes, discussion posts, essays, etc. Every paper you write will be peer reviewed until the final draft and then she grades hard.
Mrs. M was amazing. She assigns 4 essays which may sound like a lot, but it is actually easy if you come to class and follow the outlines that she gives. She was very encouraging and gave us a lot of motivation and help to get started on writing. Overall, I would definitely recommend taking her, as long as you are able to make it to class.
She is not approachable. She will make really rude and unnecessary comments every now and then. The class is boring. Attendance matters a lot, even if it's a medical emergency she will still give you a zero.
