MESSED UP PROFESSOR.I DONT RECOMMEND ANY TO TAKE HER CLASS.
I loved Joanna's teaching style. Her lectures were all in a packet she hands out to you and you take notes in it and go over them in class (example problems included). I never read the book, but did the suggested practice problems in the book. She's a great lady and I highly recommend her.

she is wonderful, class is easy to understand. you don't have to read the book to do the test well, everything is on her notes. labs are very useful. take her class you will be sure have a great understanding of chemistry
She is an easygoing teacher but her English is kindda strange . I had hard time to understand her speeches ( English is not her first language) . Her tests appears to be easy but many students get "killed" by her so-called " easy tests" . A lot of traps in the tests . THe final exam is extremely long and horrible . I dont think this clas is good.
Great person. Very amicable, and the english thing has no bearing on the ability for you to learn and understand. She's always willing to take a few extra moments to help you our and her lectures are concise and everything about her class is great. I highly recommend her class to anyone regardless of prior knowledge or interest in chemistry.
Dr. Piotrowska knows her stuff, presents the material in a logical manner, and always welcomes questions and office visits. Her accent can be difficult to understand at first, but you get used to it within a week or two. Highly recommended for chemistry!

She is hard to understand and very unhelpful. Wish I knew this before I took the class
Really smart lady, good teacher, but the class is still extremely difficult, i had to drop it.
I little hard to understand, but her handouts help a lot
She's hard teacher and mean too. I wouldn't recommend her, take it with Don Res. Don't know how to spell his last name. lol
She is such a nice teacher! People think its hard to understand her but it doesnt take a rocket scientist ro understand her!!! You will get over it within a few days. Shes a hard teacher its not easy but she will help when needed and is super understanding!!
Had for chem 1061/62. She really is a great teacher and is VERY smart and is easy to approach. She treats everyone, that wants to learn, the same. If you are not interested in the topic, don't take it. She does have an accent. It'll take a few days to get use to,but after that you won't really notice it. She gives hand written notes;it helps a lot.
Notes are perfect.
Always has time to answer questions. Is easy to come to for help.
if u want to fail chem 1050 u can take her class. she goes like b2 jet. she is like very fast and she can't explain or want to explain the ? we ask her in class. she expect people to know everything, it looks like she forgot why people go to school, because if we know chem 1050 why do we have to go to school for it. we could just stay home.
Mrs. Piotroska... somewhat difficult to understand in the beginning, but you get used to it near the middle of the class (when it's too late). I thought all you needed for her tests was her lecture notes (which she clearly stated) however i was wrong... very wrong. Maybe it's just me, but I didn't really think she made the subject clear at all...
She deffinately knows what she is talking about and she's very nice.
Joanna is a hard teacher but if you work hard and try she is willing to help you. She provides notes which is really nice. She doesn't like people who expect to coast through the course and she doesn't like people who are habitually late. She is really understanding, however, and is willing to work with the student. I definitely recommend her!
Dr Piotrowska is upbeat & has a charming accent. She talks fast only sometimes when introducing new material that she finds exciting. It is refreshing to learn from a well-respected professor who truly loves Chemistry. Any problems I had in understanding CHEM1061 had nothing to do with her. Dr JP was always kind, patient, & took time to help me.
JP is a very good teacher, particularly in her lectures. The packets that she provides are exactly what you need to know for the tests. The only thing i regret about her class is that she didnt provide practice exams for all the tests. She has a very motivated and enthusiastic outlook on Chemistry and it was extremely contagious. Highly Recomended
JP was OK! her test are very hard. She does give packets for each chaptter but you have to read the book once or twice in order to have a dissent grade on exam(s). Also, she's very strict on labs. So don't take this teacher if you aren't enstein!!!
Jp is very hard to understand her but her lecture is just fine . i will advice you to read more and be on class everyday becasue she is very picki abt the student and she always gives extra whenever she sees that students are leaving so watch your back guys. i did like her at the ent of the semester but first you will get lose sobe ready to meet h
Very energetic teacher. Speaks fast but gives note packets on all that is covered on tests. Semester ended before we covered everything we should have, which was too bad because by the end of the class I actually was interested in more labwork. Good teacher, but you have to be in class every day and ask questions if you're not sure on things.
My very favorite professor.
One of the best teachers I have ever had, and one of the nicest people I have ever met. STRONG accent but didn't notice it after the first day. Packets have everything that is on the test and are very straight forward. She is a great teacher and if you follow the lectures you will come out a better person.
I had Joanna for two semesters. One of my favorite teachers. To get an A go to lecture, want to learn, and understand the material. She's a very organized, helpful, and clear teacher. I will always remember her.
I absolutely adore Prof Piotrowska. She has an excellent teaching style and is incredibly knowledgeable, plus she is an all around nice person. She hands out study note packets and gives opportunities for extra credit. I would definitely recommend her classes to anyone.
Very nice teacher and her notes make it so easy to learn things because she lays everything out point by point. Her Polish accent is difficult to understand at first but becomes much easier to deal with. I would definitely recommend her for this class
My favorite chemistry teacher!
Class was moderately challenging. Book only needed for practice problems. Separate homework assignments given. Professor Piotrowska extremely helpful when visited during office hours & in lab. Very kind. Wants to see you do well. Helpful to work with classmates. Packets/notes given extremely helpful. I would highly recommended this professor.
Proff. Piotrowska is the best! She is organized, gives you great notes, is very helpful and wants you to do good. You can tell that she loves what she does. It's not a very easy class, but if you put in the effort you will get an A and learn a lot in the process.
Take general chemistry with Joanna. She makes the material easy to learn. As long as you know the topics and do some extra problems, you will receive a decent grade.
She does have a strong accent ;however, I dont really see any major issues here. Joanna is an ok teacher, not as good as what other people say, but certainly not too bad. Sort of easy in lab, but very strict on quizzes and exams. BTW, she doesnt offer you extra credits so you have to work real hard in her class in order to get an A.
She is okay. However, her final exam was way difficult than I thought . Her grading style is unexpected if you know what I meant. She sometimes took some silly points off because of the Sig Fig, and sometimes didn't take out anything even it was plain wrong. Hard to please her
Joanna is an amazing professor. The topic is tough and there is a lot of material to cover, but Joanna can explain concepts any way that a student can understand. Her amount of knowledge in chemistry blows me away. I'd suggest her to anybody who needs a good chem teacher. The class takes effort so what you put in, that's what you'll get out.
Great teacher. Very willing to help both in and outside of class. Can seem severe at times but is genuinely nice and friendly. Hard to follow at times due to Polish accent and fact that she goes a little fast. Touch but fair grader. Would recommend to anyone who has to take a chem class and is willing to work for it. Love this teacher.
I had her for both chem 1061 and 1062. She went through all the materials in class super fast, however, she offered alot extra helps to her students and gave little extra credits at the end of each semester. Tests can be hard and long, random quizzes and weekly homework, so be prepared for all that stuff. But overall, she is great
She goes fast through stuff, but she will sit down with you and help you figure it out if you need it, she is fun, and I can see that she loves her job.
Enjoyed class. Just read lecture notes and pass with a B!
She is by far my favorite instructor at Normandale! She has lecture notes online that you're able to print out and follow along with in class--in addition to powerpoints that correspond to the specific textbook chapters. The tests are easy if you do the recommended practice problems
Great Prof. She really knows her stuff. Lecture is very fast paced and sometimes can get confusing. Joanna always stops to clarify if students ask questions. Tests are hard but fair and based on the lecture notes. Supplemental study sessions are available and a good idea to addend. Do the extra work and you'll get the grade you deserve.
She rocks!
I currently have a 3.8 GPA and am a very hard worker when it comes to school. This professor has me currently sitting in C range after 4-5 weeks and I'm dropping. She is extremely quick to give you a zero with NO understanding to any situation, it is rather impossible to find motivation. Do not take if you want an A, her grading will ruin you.
This professor is very knowledgeable about chemistry, but because of this she moves through lecture VERY fast. If you are not strong in math and chemistry,do not take her,you will be lost. She is very willing to help if you ask for it, and respects students who work hard. Show ALL work on tests, problem sets,AND on labs. Lastly, act like a grown up!
Joanna knows what she is doing but she does have a very strong accent and is extremely fast paced during lectures. I would recommend a different teacher!
Joanna really invests in her students. She takes her job and the subject matter very seriously, so she sets high expectations for her students. But she still gives you everything you need to succeed; you just need to take initiative and devote time to the course.
Joanna taught me more about chemistry than any previous professor. She takes the subject seriously and expects you to do the same. Honestly, her high expectations made me work harder, which translated to a much deeper understanding of the subject matter. If you put in effort, you will get a lot out of this class. Joanna is an amazing professor!
Great professor; cares about the success of her students, but doesn't tolerate those who are disruptive in class. Uses old school teaching methods (old school projector with clear filmmarkers) but you get used to it eventually. Tests are tough; 15 multiple choice (worth 3 points each) and always mathematical equations, (very fair, partial credit)
I would recommend choosing another professor to be honest with you. She gives pop quizzes like it's candy and tests are extremely hard. I had to work extremely hard to get a B. The tests have questions that she barely covers in class, I swear to you you'll think that you never learned the info when given the test. TAKE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
This teacher was terrible, she is NOT understanding and sometimes is rude. If you want to fail chemistry and be EPICLY confused take this class. I would NEVER recommend this class so please be advised. She gives out pop quizzes like its nothing, and her tests are on topics you dont learn in class. this class alone feels like 4 classes in one. ugh!
Very condencending in tone when you ask questions in class. She is quick to not care about your grade. Disorganized in the way she gives lectures.
She loves what she does so her way of teaching is very passionate for her and the students who like chem. The people taking chem just beacuse, prepare to work hard. Extremely strict grader and will take points of for little things. She gives you notes but they are very messy, and when asking questions she doesn't really respond in a way I understan
The lecture style was horrendously boring and the lectures notes, which at first I thought were helpful, made paying any sort of attention in class unnecessary. The lectures notes themselves are in some sort of unreadable polish dialect. If you use her office hours, be prepared to deal with condescension and rudeness. Unfairly tough grader.
Joanna is not the best teacher. She is very rude and condecending. Her lectures are very hard to follow and very boring. I first thought the way she reached would be beneficial, however it was very confusing. Her notes were hard to read which made it tiring to follow along. She does give extra credit but it doesn't help! read the texbook!!!
very knowledgable but never explains things clearly and is very clumsy and unorganized accent was difficult to understand she is always dropping things and stuttering. she seemed very unorganzied if you want to kill your gpa take this class
If you are prepared to work hard and study, and are already pretty good at science and math, this class will be what you expect. However, Joanna's lectures and notes are confusing and unorganized, and her tests are tough. Don't be fooled by the first test, the class goes from 0 to 100 very quickly. She is a really tough grader in lab and tests.
I absolutely love being in JP's class. . she's brilliant! She sets high expectations but helps you in any way possible to meet them. The lecture notes are posted on D2L for every chapter, so lecture is easy to follow. Lab practical in 1061 but not in 1062.
I love Joanna as a teacher & as a person. I took her for 1061 and 1062. She is great at explaining things and overall a great teacher. Her lecture notes take getting used to for a while, however her exams are extremely tough. She makes her exams very specific, so the topics you think she might not test you on, will be there. Be prepared to work.
Often condescending when you ask a question, and she doesn't answer clearly or directly. Exams were tough and I know many people would barely have time to even finish. Professor herself is okay as a person, but not the best instructor. She seems all over the place. If you want a challenge though, take her. But honestly, I would NOT recommend her.
She is very accommodating if you ask for help in time. The final was easy enough with enough studying , which I did though I'd given up on the class at that point (I aced it). Labs are graded pretty tough, but can be fun. First half of class is stuff you should know from high school. show up, do HW, and DON'T MISS ANY LABS (trust me on that one)!
average teacher when it come to knowledge of the topic but, she often assumes that the class understands everything before she teaches it and doesn't listen to students when they ask a question and answers or does something completely unrelated. She will often cover a new difficult topic the day before a exam and it will be on the exam.
I took Joanna for 1061 I struggled in 1020 but I found this course hard, she does have an accent and notes are printed in her hand writing so at first its hard to understand but overall you get used to it, VERY tough grader dosn't curve a test, labs were interesting. Id recommend her if you know your chemistry
She explains things in the most abysmal of ways. You will not get A's unless you are some kind of child prodigy. Seriously have to recommend going with a different teacher for any chemistry course.
felt like three classes in one and the professor loves seeing students suffer, one time she said that if the class average was an eighty that means the exam was too easy The mark of a good teacher is that the students are understanding the material and getting good grades
Joanna is wonderful. Her class is extremely organized and clear. Homework and lectures are very helpful and she gives a lot of practice problems. She clearly loves chemistry and knows a lot about it. She is very caring and sweet and accommodating for her students. A good portion of this class is review if you took chemistry in high school. 10/10!
Awful class!!! There is no practice exams and her exam averages are never above 75% know this she may smile at you in class but she grades harshly!! Take Julius instead much easier gives practice exams and replaces bad exam scores with your next exam after if you do better. Frankly piotrowska aint worth your time and most of her class withdraws
Dr. Piotrowska is literally Edna Mode from The Incredibles but taller. She is very smart and caring. She is extremely high strong and high energy so if you cant handle someone talking your ear off for 3 hours till it bleeds then dont take this class. Strong accent but you can still understand her. Daily quizzes and she gives lecture notes.
I have seen a lot of bad reviews for her but decided to take her class anyways and am surprised at some of the poor comments that people have made about her. Extremely caring - use office hours. Straight forward tests - do the prac. problems throughout each unit. Accent is easy to understand. Very interesting, knowledgeable, organized and caring.
The work is hard but the instructor is excellent. She is always willing to help outside of class, and genuinely cares about the people she teaches. A true gem. She will make sure you actually know your stuff though. Which is really helpful if you continue on to organic chemistry!!
Shes a great teacher. Extremely friendly and engaging. Very easy going and is always explaining things in the simplest of terms. She is very organized and has a workbook for lab and class that make everything very easy to plan for. She literally tells you everything that will be on an exam and sometimes create her own note overview for your use.
She is nice, caring, and is energetic, but difficult for a few reasons. One being is that there is some difficulty understanding her due to accent, if you don't study hard you are screwed ( no practice exam), and the lectures is just her reading a weekly "required" printout that she has written and created which can be hard to read (hand written).
There isnt space to say enough about her! One of my fav profs! She was very helpful. Even though she has an accent, I could still understand her. I wasnt looking forward to chem, but her class made me like it. Labs were kind of fun! Try in class and dont goof off and you will stay on Ms. Ps good side (can be strict). DO THE WORK & ASK QUESTIONS
Mrs. Piotrowska does a great job explaining chem. She is knowledgeable in the subject and cares that her students get the concepts each step of the way. Chemistry with her is not hard if you just study and practice with the resources she gives you. There are 4 tests and a final, and the final replaces your worst test score (if the score is better).
Ms. Piowtrowska was a teacher whose lectures were very hard to understand due to the language barrier. She also tends to talk at you all of lecture. I would not recommend this class if you don't already have good knowledge of the subject.
Extremely unhelpful, tests are really difficult. Does not like students contacting her outside of class. Avoid at ALL COSTS.
Professor JP is very nice and caring about her students. Her lectures are a little difficult to understand at times because of her accent, but she does a good job of getting the point across. She also provides students with many resources in order to be successful. Chemistry is a challenging subject to learn, and she is passionate about teaching it
I took her class expecting a certain level of difficulty and came out of a exceedingly hard class. I never got a proper review for the chapters from her she just expected you to know everything and get tested only a minuscule amount of what you learned. NO clear explanations because it seems that she does the bare minimum and doesn't try.
Exams are difficult not because I am not studying hard enough but because its hard to know what exactly comes up on the test. Even though we are given study guides that underline what the test will be on, there might be a topic that I am more informed and prepared for than another. The professor also does not go the extra lengths to help students.
I did my fair amount of work in this class and unbelievably, I got a 69.4% and she didnt round it up to a C. Her accent makes it hard to understand at times and her grading is questionable. Avoid.
I thought I had bad professors, but they are angels compared to her. Doesn't tell you exactly what is going to be on the exam which makes it hard to study, labs are difficult, and she is very snarky. She is one of the main reasons I dropped pre-med, and I know I'm not the only one. If you care about your mental health, don't take this class
Accent makes class really difficult to learn from in an online setting
She's a good teacher and she knows her stuff, no denying that. But when it comes to being flexible, understanding, and helpful: horrible. Especially during covid online class. She's not flexible and won't make exceptions because its her "rule". Ridiculous given the circumstances. I emailed her for extra help outside of class and she never responded
You get used to her accent fast and honestly her accent is really fun to listen to and very pretty, which can make lecture more engaging. Her exams are fair-- you won't really be caught by suprise. There are regular short quizzes and a couple Achieve assignments weekly. She's also pretty flexible! If you stay engaged, you'll surely pass.
Overall would give her a 1.0. Red Flags galore, not being mean but her accent is heavy and this already tough subject is unbearable. I would say that if you are so/so on chem, find another professor or you will be regretting it by midterms.
