Class is mandatory. Do not be 1 minute late to class. She is very strict. Lectures are organized and easy to understand. Tests come from lectures. Lectures are on webct. Do the Extra Credits, you will need it.
Wonderful teacher!!! Lectures are easy to understand and she gives great examples. If you attend every lecture and take good notes you will do great. All of her lectures are on Web CT.
It was only a health science class but she is a wonderful teacher and very encouraging. i loved this being my first class i didn't feel like i was in "class" at all.
She can be an easy teacher if you are a good student. Attend class because she gives you really good highlights of whats going to be on the exams. Study your notes and you'll be fine. The book is not necessary at all. I recommend Galicia if you want to actually learn and have a challenge. If not, go with Dr. Joanna, but she has an Polish accent.
Super easy health class. She has her health stuff down pat. Gives good advice and the tests were easy. The quizzes kept you on your game and she was real pleasant teacher. Good class, but take it in the winter or summer. Book completely not necessary, all tests are from her lecture PowerPoint notes. =]
Great Bio teacher. She understands that people have to take bio for their general ed. and that most of us don't like biology and will never be Bio majors but she makes it interesting and she makes you think. You should deff take her. Plus she is from Poland so she brings interesting "outsider" views into lectures.
Don't buy the textbook. All lectures on WEB CT. All tests and quizzes from lectures. Grades tests and quizzes very fast. Very personable. I highly recommend her.
Excellet Professor!! She tells you what to expect on exams. As long as you attend class you will do great. She does have a light accent, but she is 100% understandable. She loves to teach and uses great examples.
She's great, nice, offers extra credit opportunities. You'll lose points for being late or not attending though.
She's not as great as what everyone is saying on here. She is very strict and puts people on the spot. Makes it seem like this course is hard when really she just gives way too much quizzes/tests. There are different exams for lecture and lab, 4 tests and 2 finals for lab AND lecture. And to make it worse, she is a tough grader.
She is sooo awesome. Her class was fun and kept you awake. Very helpful and understanding. tests can be tough but she offered extra credit, so it helped.
Thougt she was a wonderful lecturer. It was the disconnect in communication, verbally, and in writing for tests, assignments, and labs that did it for me. In addition, the very, very harsh and unfair grading. She should rethink her grading and work on the english communication. Sorry, but I had to drop because of these reasons. I speak good englis
I guess her teaching methods are different for Bio 11, since everyone that love her are from Bio 1. Nice lady, but the comment below is right.. she IS a harsh grader. Only a couple people get full credit on lab reports. Weekly lab quizzes, 5 Lecture quizzes, 3 tests, 1 lab midterm, 2 finals (lecture AND lab).. oh, and "pop" quizzes.
She was a very animated and passionate teacher. She gave students several opportunities to earn extra credit points and always made class interesting by utilizing various props as teaching aids. She really cares about her students/
She is a phenominal teacher with tons of examples to relate what your learning to everyday life. She tells you exactly what you will be tested on as long as you pay attention in the class. It is important to attend and she supplies all her notes online incase you miss parts during lecture. She gives plenty of oppurtunity to succeed! A must take!
Took her for health and now bio. She is very passionate about teaching. Her accent is rather cute. She cares about students, makes learning easy by providing lectures online. Exams and labs are not too bad, study. Don't be late.
Took her for my Bio 1 Lab, and after you get past the inital shock of her accent, she is wonderful! Very helpful and very fun labs! I would reccomend her to anyone. Takes off points for being sloppy or if not complete. MUST buy lab manual :)
she is an awesome teacher! if you do the work correctly and stay on top of stuff it is a very easy and fun class. she makes everything very clear. i really like her.
this teacher is awesome. i was truly sad to leave this class cuz she is such a wonderful person. she has a sense of humor and very helpful.she is picky and doesnt give study guides, but i still got an A which shows she is an awesome teacher. very nice lady who doesnt mind joking around.
She was a great teacher. She explains everything very well you need to take notes in her class. If you do your work on time you should be fine I got an A in the class the work was not super complicated it was simply and you will learn things that you can use in your life
I typically don't do this, but she is such an amazing prof I thought she deserved this post. Dr. Joanna is passionate about teaching & her research. She involves the class in discussions & makes things cut-&-dry. Her class is no joke!! You will need flash cards & a study group most of the time. :) she's one ofthe best profs I've had in a LONG time!
Great Instructor, very helpful, very indepth, and so kind and nice. Attendence is required, and is reflected on your grade in the end. But overall a great and fun class, bring carrots or celery to class to eat!
Best professor I had this fall 2012. She was so nice and was really helpful, especially during the lab. I enjoyed her lectures especially the ones towards the end. I would really want to take another class with her. It was a pleasure taking her class. And I love her accent too!:)
The best professor RCC MV has! She loves the subject and is such a sweetheart! I had her in a 100+ student class and she remembered my name even when I sat in the back! She has an accent and is strict with her attendance but honestly if you show up to class, do the hw and pay attention, you will deff get an A in the class! I heart her! :)
Worst professor that I have ever had. Gave me 3 point out of 10 on my lab. Along with other students. Lots of quizzes !!!!
Do not take this teacher. Very scary.
4.0 and only class where i was getting Bs on the tests. Hated it the whole time but all the other assignments she gives are easy to get 100% on. She knows her stuff.
Go ahead and take her for Health. easy!! DO NOT take her for Biology. She is ridiculous. She quizzes every lab, exams are hard with no study guide. How can she expect for the students to memorize 6 chapters in a few weeks. Docks off points for minor things. Taking her now and she is SCAARYYYY.. oh and also puts you on the spot in class! Stay away
Great teacher! Very passionate about her work! She will clarify ANYTHING about her class! Homework is easy. Allows two 3x5 index card on tests. Keeps class interesting and students engaged. Easy A if you do your work!
Take my comments serious. Passionate about bio. Not easy teacher. Attendance mandatory. Puts you on spot,so be ready with answer. Not too helpful on what to expect on exams, no study guide, silly swallows project. Lab exams-hard.If you can take someone else, DO IT realized other bio teachers never did or taught what we had to in this class,gd luck
Very great teacher who knows her stuff. Took her health science class in the winter. it was fast-paced but not hard to keep up with. Easy A if you pay attention in class, study, & do the homework. the work is easy and she lets students use index cards on the exam.
She is a good teacher, and an "A" is definitely obtainable in her class but you need to be on it. I took her while working full time and going to school full time and got a high "B" so as long as you pay attention and work hard you'll be fine.
great teacher, funny, knows what she is talking about and easy to get a good grade in her class.
Avoid at all costs. Gives horrible reviews before exams, labs are beyond chaotic. Doesn't write her own tests and pulls her questions straight off online test banks. Taking same class at a different school and what a difference a good professor makes just in test reviewing and preparing you for an exam. Do not take her unless you have no choice.
Bio 34-Human Genetics, If you need a bio class take this professor! She is amazing, knows her stuff, always willing to explain anything that is not understood. You can tell she is passionate about the subject, which really makes taking her worth while. None of the projects are hard and test are pretty straight forward.
First time taking any Bio, she talked has if you knew what she was talking about. I could not understand her. no extra credit, mid-terms and quiz are very hard!!!!
Had her class in the summer. Use Blackboard and read the lab powerpoint BEFORE going to class. The lab quizzes are based off what she has on the slides, straight forward with the material, and allows an index card for the exam(don't rely on it). Study and you should be fine. Read the notes carefully and if confused ask her for help. I got an 86%
I LOVER HER. She explains everything so well. Attend class on time every day, and you are in her good graces. She is honestly the best Biology professor I have ever had. I recommend. I'll be taking her for more biology courses if i can!
I'm taking her Winter Health class and it isn't that bad. the exams are pretty straight forward if you listen to her lectures and read up in the textbook. Usually everything she says in the lectures will be on the tests.
I took her winter session for Health Science and it was really a great class. Everything she says in lectures and on powerpoint are on the exams. She gives out extra credit. If you show up to class on time and do the work you will pass with no problem. Attendance is the key for her class.
Dr. Joanna is very thorough in her lectures. when you need clarification on something she takes her time to explain it and makes sure you get it. she quickly replies to e-mails. attendance is a must for this class.
Very tough professor, if your not serious about learning and paying attention don't bother taking her she will crush you. her grading is very tough also, she minuses points on every error she finds. can sometimes feels unapproachable even though she tells you to not be afraid to ask questions i was still afraid. If you take her be prepared.
Dr Joanna inspired my passion for a subject I previously did not enjoy! I took her Biology I class and found myself enjoying learning. She has specific grading criteria and clearly spells out what her expectations are of you as a student. Do NOT go to class late or fall asleep in class. Overall she is a fantastic professor who loves her craft!
She is a rare breed. I've taken many university-level science classes and there are few professors who can simplify conventionally difficult-to-understand bio concepts as well as compared to her. Take advantage of this and learn as much as possible. Appreciate her strict expectations bc they will prepare you for when/if you transfer or go grad.
Dr. Joanna is probably THE best professor I have ever had. She makes learning about biology so fun, interesting, & easy! She's a fair grader and everything she teaches is on the tests so make sure you take good notes & pay attention during class. She gives put pop quizzes if she feels the students arent paying attention, but offers extra credit!
Very much loves what she does & it shows. Makes class interesting. Don't need the book but you need an access code to do the online homework. Lecture powerpoints available online. Don't need to take lots of notes, she lets you know whats important and what you need to know for the test. As long as you pay attention to what she says you'll be good.
Dr. Joanna is very inspirational. She makes you want to be a better human! Everyone should take her class! She explains everything so well, and she is clear as to what she expects from you. She will change your life forever! You won't regret it!
Professor Joanna was phenomenal in my experience. If you want a professor who actually teaches you on how Biology affects our day to day life, take her. Shes very inspirational, fun, caring and fair. She's a tough and picky grader but will always be open to listen if you disagree with her on your grades. Study the ppts and labs well for exams.
Loves her job, and loves her students. She goes above and beyond to make sure you understand the material. Her labs... were amazing! We hiked multiple times , visited museums, set cameras around Moreno Valley hills and captured pictures of the wild life around campus and we did research with UCR. Best teacher in RCC district. Period.
She loves her students and loves to teach. Definitely recommend her. She makes lectures and land interesting.
I would never take her class again! She is the type of teacher to explain everything in the lab once and if you ask her questions about it again she gets mad ? She made others feel scared or nervous to ask for help. I believe she noticed when the whole class didn't get the right results for a lab and she got upset. I wonder why
My major is social work but she made me realize how interesting biology is. Very caring professor and the love her her job shows!
I dont think there could ever be a more amazing biology professor. She is engaging and really knows how to explain concepts that can be tricky to grasp. There isnt much homework but there is a lot of studying. This is typical of any science/math course. Dr. Joanna truly loves her job and I would recommend her for any biology class.
Take this course! Dr. Joanna transforms the way one looks at biology. Her lectures are always so intriguing. And she is so welcoming to questions being asked. She truly tries her best to ensure that all her students grasp the concepts. Best biology teacher I ever had
Professor Joanna is very sweet, caring. I took her class in Win18. Her power points are straightforward, she also talks and writes the important things you need to know for her exams. During the Labs, she is a bit picky on the answers the questions she assigns for the lab. Other than that, I would definitely take her again in the future.
Fantastic teacher. Really loves to teach!
I took Doctor Joanna for winter-18 Bio-1. She's an amazing teacher, you could clearly tell that she loves to teach, and is very passionate about it. Her exams are directly from lectures, and whatever she writes on the board. There is no study guide for exams, but she does tell you what you need to know. Pay close attention to class, and its an A!
Avoid taking her class. She clearly needs teaching credential, will confuse BIOLOGY concepts. Shes a field researcher with needed supervision, teaching is a gift that maybe she needs to reconsider
I have no idea how this professor has all these great reviews. That whole "my tests are based on lectures and if i didn't talk about it , it wont be on the test" is a complete lie. The tests have information she has never talked about. Also, she does not explain what she expects from students when it comes to projects she assigns. Gets angry alot.
Complete waste of time even though I got As moving into the next BiO will be hard since I didnt understand any concepts that was being presented. Tables memorization is not how BIO works This class being Honors needs someone else to be teaching it Avoid with capital
Just an amazing professor that has a holistic approach to teaching biology. Lectures instill the ability to relate what you learned in class to your everyday life. She has such a way of making complex concepts easy to understand and her diagrams are wonderful in helping to memorize all the material. If there is an SI for the class, take advantage!
Wonderful professor! Loved the way she structured the class. Students who work hard and study will do well. She is tricky but can be picky. Regardless, she prepares students, especially those who are transferring. She reestablished my love for biology and is the reason why I decided to switch my career path. She exposes you to so relevant info!
I dont understand why this professor would ever receive bad reviews! her class is organized, and she does a really good job at relating content to the real world. If you take notes, study the slides, and pay attention to what she says is on the exam, youll do fine! shes extremely caring and its very clear she wants all her students to succeed.
Terrible, terrible, terrible. Regardless of how a class is set up, its hard to get past such an awful personality. She answers questions in a demeaning manner.
Dr. Joanna is an amazing professor. She has more biology knowledge in the tip of her pinky then any other biology professor I've had so far. She doesn't use a textbook everything you need to know she will teach it to you. You have to make the time to review your notes & rewrite them. I highly recommend the SI sessions to keep you on track to study.
I love Dr. Joanna, her lectures are clear, her grading is fast. Her lectures arent boring and she uses real situations in her lectures to help students understand. She also spent indivisual time teching me things i really didnt understand. Her grading is efficient and she grades fairly. She made it easy to be a good student. I recommend her !!
Dr. Joanna is an amazing professor! I am not great at Bio but she teaches it in a way to put everything in our perspective. Everything she writes on the board is what is on the exam. Labs were easy and she cares for her students if the effort is put back. I took her in winter so it was super fast but nothing crazy. 5 exams, lab reports, 1 paper.
She is super passionate about what she does, she will talk a lot about her own experience and the communication between the class and the outside world. She is caring and will help you if you need it
Dr. Joanna is one of the most caring and passionate proffessors I have met. She is very generous and wants to help you succeed. Winter class was difficult and fast pace but she understands and helps as much as she can. Make sure you pay attention to what she tells you, no study guide for the tests, she tells you what you need to know.
I took Dr. Joanna for Bio45 in Winter and she was an amazing teacher. She made learning fun! She lets you have 2 flashcards for the tests and she gives out lecture points. As long as you pay attention and show up to class- you should be good! All of the material you will need is what she writes directly on the board. Such a fantastic professor!
SHE GIVES ATTITUDE WHEN ASKING QUESTIONS!!! REPLIES WITH SARCASTIC REMARKS AND EMOJIS! CHILDISH
I have never had such an amazing bio professor who enjoys what she teaches. I always enjoy lecture class because she teaches it in a way for you to understand. If you take this class always ask questions and give comments in class, it makes class more fun and interesting!
This professor is horrible! She will ridicule you for not knowing the answers. Students walked out of class when she belittled them. She does not know how to relay the information well which makes the class super confusing. I had to attend tutoring every day while working a 40 hour work week. She makes it IMPOSSIBLE and is not easy to talk to.
I took her Spring '20 & she was a great professor. It's odd to see a comment saying she isn't good but people change. Honors class was small, only a few of us would interact with her in lect. Those that did understood the concept better and enjoyed the class more. She always loves to see her students smile. I suggest asking questions & participate.
Professor Werner-Fraczek is understanding, clear when giving lectures, and she just wants her students to succeed. There are many lectures and labs, so you have to be willing to put in the work. Labs, quizzes, and exams are all based on lectures. Overall this class is a lot of work, but it's also an easy A if you set your mind to it. Def Recommend!
She's passionate about the subject, but the class has a bit too many assignments in my opinion. Spent about 3 hours avg daily on the class in Summer. Overall, the content isn't hard, and she is really good at explaining concepts. Not much to complain about. If you want to take bio with a good professor, I would recommend taking it with her.
Currently taking this online course and I love it. I was scared to take bio since I suck at science, but here I am with a 94%. She is an easy grader considering I dont really understand some questions and get them correct. It is a lot of lab homework but if I can pass the class with an A trust me, you can too
This class was ALOT her grading policy is super annoying if you leave a question blank she takes away points she takes points for everything she wants everything precise even your documents her accent is super thick but you can pass it she wanted everything turned in at 9pm and exams were taken at 8 & 10 am super annoying she doesnt use proctorial
I took this class online and was pretty worried since it was biology but Professor Werner- Fraczek made it fun and easy to learn. She really loves what she teaches and makes it easy to learn. I highly recommend her :)
Amazing professor. You can tell she's passionate about the subject she teaches. Her lectures have a lot of test information so if you miss a class you're going to miss A LOT. Its a little difficult but if you study and follow your notes you'll be fine. Her finals aren't difficult though! I loved her and her class. I definitely recommend her.
Dr. Joanna was amazing! She was very passionate and knowledgeable on the subject and made the class very fun. Be sure to study her lectures and participate in class discussions, as test material/info usually comes from most of these.
Great professor! very knowledgeable and caring. Does her best to help you understand the material. Motivates you to want to learn. Bio-60 is very difficult so get ready to read a lot and re-watch lecture videos to understand. It is hard material to learn but Professor will help with any questions you have. It is difficult, but fun class to take.
kinda mid. not great but not terrible either.
I took BIO-45 online with Dr. Joanna over the winter, and it was extremely easy. To be honest, I didn't study the material because all of the questions on the exams are everything on Quizlet I had used. Right now, I have finally passed with a 97.8% (A), which is 978 points I earned worth a total of 1,000 points possible. I would take her again 100%
The professor is very kind and is always enthusiastic during lectures. She gives short quizzes towards the end of lecture and allows us to talk with classmates while taking it. She makes us sign in during lecture for attendance. There was no specific book required as long as it said Biology on the cover. Did not need to purchase scantrons.
Literally the best professor I've had so far during my time in college. She is truly dedicated to her students and is super helpful when you don't understand a certain part of the lecture. Took her for 60 and 61 and got really good grades for both. Make sure you take good notes and participate in her reviews, she gives EXTRA CREDIT!!
Lecture videos need to be watched before going to class, she has lecture quiz and lab quiz before every class. She includes topics we didn't discuss on quizzes and exams which is difficult to study. Students ask questions and she ignores them since "its not on topic". Labs are very long, she doesn't explain procedures and lets us figure it out.
The best biology professor by far. She is very understanding and will let you fix an assignment for regrading. In any science course it is difficult but with studying and not falling behind, passing this class is easy work. Labs were easy and quizzes were.
BEST BIO PROFESSOR!! Trust me when I say take this professor
She is the best professor she is such an amazing Dr. So helpful and she makes you love biology!
Very kind, caring and funny. She may offer research opportunities for students. Her exam questions could be unclear but she does an unofficial curve. There is a lot of group work in lecture and lab, and 2 labs are field trips. Read the lab manuals cause she doesn't explain what to do during lab. I recommend her.
Favorite professor I highly recommend her for anyone who needs to take BIO60!!!
Took her for Genetics, not BIO1. She's the best and a really good instructor too. Fast grader/emailer and I learned a lot. She helped me care and think critically about my reproductive health.
The professor is engaging and enthusiastic, but the class can be challenging. Attending lectures, staying on top of readings, and using resources like unstuck study for study prep are key to success. Overall, a rewarding experience.
She supposed to be retired or being a nice senior who supports younger generations not trying to hatred them such an inferior person may be because we are going to be doctors one day such her relatives, LOL. She start to rush everything in Lab and ignores you and just care of the cleanliness of the lab bench more her students success. Avioddddd her
The biggest mistake she is always doing, she goes with accelerated rate in the regular semester such winter or summer, 3 lectures on one week even when I ask another classmate has the same class but with different teacher, their teacher fall behind her with 2 chapter at least. I have no idea why she is rushing all chapters like that way That is bad
I have no idea why this professor do lab exam while other professors who are more professional than her just doing the lab quizzes. Please MVC biology department review what this teacher is doing, she just doing quizzes, exams, and pop up questions in lectures and no any effort to explain the material itself even her canvas modules are kinda of mess
Don't take any class she is teaching, you will regret. She take points off even if you did answer the first part of question correctly and if you try to discuss with her, she tells you I am so picky. Remember I told you guys, don't add any of her classes.
I have no idea how this teacher have 3.9 rate here, she must have 1.8 out 5.00. Don't try even to think about taking her classes.....Don't Don't Don't
Do yourself a favor and don't take her classes
she is a very sweet person but not a good professor. her tests are hard and her test averages are even worse. she calls on you in class and ridicules you if you don't know the answer. she doesn't drop or replace any grades on top of how harsh she grades. not tech savvy even tho her class is paperless. locks everything and doesn't hand out much.
She is just present in the class to give out exams, quizzes and helping in during the lecture. Don't take her class
If you ask any question, she will make you as a dump person in lecture in public.
She is rushing everything in both lab and lecture...
All the reviews saying her lectures are wack & she puts you on the spot are literally all students who come unprepared. She basically gives you shaping guidelines to her class (all in the syllabus BTW), and is more than willing to help you succeed. Don't believe the comments saying she's rude or unhelpful. Esp for bio61, she will be there for you.
She is so sweet and she genuinely wants you to pass the class. Just be prepared for the class as in watching assigned lectures before hand and just participate. The more you do the less likely she will pick on you. For exams she provides practice tests and those help a lot and lectures. Just do your part in preparing before class.
A very easy A class if you spend time on the Covid project and disease pamplets. Just follow the lectures and watch the lectures every week and post discussion. Exam requires Lockdown browsers.
shes the most mediocre professor in the entire world. shes done very nice and bad things equally. she's a pushover and doesn't stand her ground. has specific people she likes and picks on. helpful during lab. will answer your questions but slightly condescending. gives points back on tests if majority of class missed question. most okay prof ever.
I took Professor Joanna for both bio 60 & 61 and she was a great professor. The lectures had questions in the middle (like 3 that were mult. choice) so they counted for credit. The labs are honestly easy just sometimes rushed , and all her tests are multiple choice. She literally WANTS you to pass and gives sm opportunities for credit.
The lectures are very hard to get through, she has weekly assignments and the second the clock hits 10 on Friday, they're locked forever. Weekly assignments are not that hard but she's a tough grader on the projects, like a really HARSH grader. -15 for anything
Super obvious she got review bombed by a salty student lol. Dr. Joanna is very caring about her students, makes herself available, goes above and beyond with helping her students succeed. Keep up with lecture videos/studying and this class is nothing exceptionally challenging. She's a great professor to know/impress as she has helpful connections.
