very nice lady, her class is a challenge, but some classes just take some effort
i took her last year and am still annoyed enought to rate her
great teacher! very knowledgeable and made me change my major!!:)
She sucks is the best thing i can say
She's cool, wants students to do well, tests are very long but open book/notes
Knows the material very well and wants everyone to understand it. Has tons of office hours if you need help
knows the info-explains well. HARD tests...MUST go to class and read notes and book in order to do well
Nice enough, hard tests, but its just a hard class in general
simply, she is very boreing... i fall asleep everyday... she just sits at the desk and goes over power point slides, tests are hard... some curve.. shes very dull
She explains the material well, so you'll do fine on the tests if you listen, but thats sometimes hard to do b/c she just goes over powerpoints and there isn't much discussion.
She started off the first day by saying that she believes people are at college for a challenge and she makes her class accordingly. Its way harder then it should be. The test are impossible. I took micro first and the tests were still impossible!
Doyle is simply the best professor I have ever had at JMU. She is a very real person and that makes class so much more comfortable. I wish that she taught every Econ class because I would have had such a better time :)
If there is a contradiction between her and the book, go with what she says. The tests are hard and a little out of date with the current times. She is very enthusiastic, but sometimes gets sensitive when you ask her questions like you're insulting her. Find someone else..she made me dislike econ
I liked macro before taking micro with this professor, she feels she's better than students. Tests and examples are out of date, going to class is pointless but an easy B if you study a little.
If you do problem sets and get material under your belt, you should do o.k. Tests are hard but she gives awesome curves.
She is a very good teacher. She makes it easy to understand by explaining everything well. If you have a question, she will answer it and explain it thoroughly. Her tests are hard, and you NEED to study for them. But the material itself is hard. She wants you to do well and gives decent curves.
She's pretty good. Does a great job at coming up with real-world examples, which I think makes the class a lot more interesting. Some people hate the class, but mostly just because of the subject-matter.
Class is hard, but the material in general is hard to grasp. Does a good job in explaining things, but tests are still impossible. Go to class pay attention and you probably would get a decent C.

dr. doyle is slightly intimidating to me, but i find her to be very fair and she atleast gives the impression that she wants students to do well. tests are hard, but curves are great. great notes too, come to class and book is nearly useless. reccomend the study guide+notes.
She's a good teacher. Class is hard though.
She is a good teacher. The material is hard. ALl i did was print off PPs before class, studied the night before tests and pulled a B-. Hardly did anything.
Wow i hate her..she's a **** and a half. um yea this class suckss soo much. I have no idea how other classes are but I really dont like her and everyone hates this class soooo much..so have fun if you get her
Dr. Doyle is an outstanding teacher....subject is challenging and she is firm and in control of her class...she pushes you to do your best and is very smart...very glad i finally got to take her
Professor Doyle is a good professor. She knows her stuff and does a great job with effectively teaching her students. Difficult course, but great professor. Take her if you get the chance. Curves and online quizzes help your grade.
this class is so hard, DO NOT TAKE HER IF YOU CAN! quizzes and tests are impossible, class is same thing every day, powerpoints over and over, this lady needs to do something else with her life..
Prof Doyle does a good job at explaining difficult material. The assignments online defenitely help you grasp the material. I had little interest in econ before and now i'm thinking of majoring in it. I would recommend her.
This is such a boring class, imposible to pay attention for whole class. Need to study hard for tests and quizzes. Lots of little online assignments which hurt my grade. No attendance policy.
For econ, this class is not bad at all. Yea, you actually have to do some work, but Doyle is a good teacher. Online assignments are easy, a couple quizzes and tests aren't too bad. She puts powerpoints online and gives you a ton of resources to study: answers to questions in the back of the book, a study guide, publisher's website, etc. Take her
Doyle is the worst Prof. I have taken at JMU. She is incredibly boring and gives these annoying BS assignments online and u have to buy the progrom for another $30 after you already bought the book. I got a B+ in Macro and now I am looking at an F. Test are 30 multiple choice and 2 0r 3 hard essays/problems. DON'T TAKE HER
Dr. Doyle's class is graded on a very fair scale.Even if youre not very good at stats, just do the homework assignments and attend class and there isn't any reason you shouldn't get a B.She is really helpful if you go in for office hours. In terms of how interesting class is,its econometrics,so unless you love stats, its not going to fun and games.
A little intimidating, and moves very fast, but an incredible teacher. I was terrible at statistics but she teaches it so well that it's so much better than it could be. You couldn't get someone who grades more fairly. Take her!
She moves really fast and expects you to be a hge fan of economics. Her tests and quizes are short answer and multiple choice. Short answer are easy, but multiple choice are really hard. I got an F in her class and I studied really hard and attended almost every class. Take her at your own risk.
Prof. Doyle was a nice lady and is prob. one of the better econ teachers but this class was still pretty hard..you think you know the stuff when she teaches in class but when the tests come and you dont know half the questions it sucked..overall it wasnt a bad class, she curves test by the way everyone does, i think all micro classes are pretty hard
Dr. Doyle is AWESOME, helpful in clarifying materials, worked hard to make the class practical to the "real world" with article and discussion on how what we were learning in class was useful. Tests were fair. TAKE HER!
Good teacher, keeps class interesting enough.
Had Doyle for 385 and 201. Deff. the prof you want to take for your econ courses. She loves what she does and teaches makes everything interesting. You will have to work hard in the class(she will make you), and you will know everything inside out and do well. Deff take her for any micro or econometrics class.
She is a great teacher and even though the concepts can be a little confusing at first she is very helpful and explains things several times if you ask. She doesn't make the class easy for you, and expects you to be "self motivating college students" but she wants you to succeed. I would definitely recommend her.
So, I'm an IDLS student so I wasn't that interested in econ and probably wouldn't have taken it if I wasn't required to BUT Doyle was an amazing professor. I'm not sure how I would've gotten through the class with anyone else becuase she made it SO easy to relate to. lots of examples and her notes are easy to understnad. TAKE HER!
Great Professor. The text book isn?t really necessary. Example questions at the end of chapters are helpful however her notes in class are EXTREMLY useful, the test is based off of them. Attendance isn?t required but is suggested. She made the class easy to understand and applicable to life outside of the classroom.
tough class. she is nice some days but then she has those days where you can tell she is having a bad day. I got a B in the class. Test are mult choice and open ended. Not bad, I would take her again.
She explains things very well and is very helpful if you have any questions. Definitely need to keep up with the class though, and it should be fine!
She's great but kind of a tough class. Gotta practice on book problems if you want to do well in this class.
I loved Professor Doyle! Her class does require some work with homework due every other class, but it really does help you. Attendance is not mandatory but I think it's beneficial to attend, her lectures are interesting and very easy to understand. I think she explains things very well, and if you put the effort in you will do well.
Microeconomics with Professor Doyle was somewhat difficult but she gives you the resources to succeed. She is very passionate and knowledgeable. Tests are half short answer and half multiple choice. Prep questions due at the start of most classes make attendance definitely encouraged. One of my favorite professors this semester.
Microecon was extermely challenging. If you aren't an econ major or a business major this class is difficult. She goes really fast through explanations in lecture and expects you to intuitively undersatnd concepts. I had to teach myself everything after every class. I don't recommend taking her.
She talks down to students a lot and makes you feel dumb when you get a question wrong; not the best way to get students interested in a class.
Doyle was VERY engaging in class. One of those teachers that just irradiate intelligence. If you are willing to put in the work there is nothing stopping you from doing well in this class. Would recommend.
I'm a business major and let's face it economics is boring. Professor Doyle really does try her best to make it interesting and really is a good teacher. If you need this class for your major take her, if you don't, don't take economics with anyone.
Professor Doyle is a pretty good professor. She definitely teaches the material well, but it's just a difficult class as a whole. My PASS instructor definitely helped me out a lot, but I would take Doyle again, but I suggest an easier professor if you can find one.
BUY THE STUDYGUIDE that goes along with the textbook. Its helpful when preparing for texts. Doyle is so nice and helpful and although the material is very difficult, she tries her best to help you understand it when you're confused.
Best teacher for the course! Micro is a very challenging course but she is so engaging and really cares about all her students understanding the material. one of the best professors at JMU.
I learned more from her lectures than I did from the readings which is rarely the case for me. That is the sign of a quality teacher. She will bluntly tell students they are wrong if they answer a question incorrectly which offends some students. However, all in all I found her to be an excellent and interesting teacher that I would recommend.
Dr. Doyle is one of the better micro teachers. Took macro before so that made micro "easier." Her lectures are pretty scatter brained most of the time so taking notes became impossible because she gets distracted. Sometimes difficult to know what to expect on exams. In order to do well, go to PASS, do your hw, read the book and do the workbook.
Professor Doyle is definitely one of the more engaging teachers at JMU. I learn a lot from her lectures, even though she goes off topic sometimes. She uses great real world examples to explain the markets. There are three tests and you must do good on all three of them to end up with a good grade but if you review the material you should be fine.
Love Doyle, one of the best ECON professors in COB. Gives engaging lectures, her quizzes/HW are pretty easy but occur often. Tests aren't bad at all, she tries to trick you a little bit which is annoying but aside from that she just tests you on the material you've worked on. Currently have a B+, would definitely recommend.
Very passionate about economics. Would definitely take her again in any economics courses in the future. Take her, probably the best Econ professor you can take at JMU at the entry level. HW is extra credit and test and quizzes are not hard but there is one probably every week or so.
Econ isn't easy but she really dumbs it down and helps you understand. Really good lectures and good notes. You'll wanna read the textbook and do the online practice work. Exams aren't that hard if you know what you're doing.
Honestly don't know how she has this good of a rating. Unless you're an ECON major it's really hard. She moves quickly and notes are all handwritten in class so she doesn't post any notes. Makes you stay to the very end of class all the time and sometimes makes you stay over. Don't skip. Use the summary at the end of each chapter for help.
Micro is the hardest class I have taken at Jmu thus far and Doyle makes the class very tough. Lectures move fast and her handwriting can be very messy. Quizzes are challenging and the tests can be even harder which is a big percentage of your grade. It is a very challenging course to take with her
Very average teacher teaching a pretty hard subject. Not particularly boring, but not particularly engaging either. You will definitely have to put in a decent amount of work for a good grade. Tests are surprisingly tricky, but doable. Also her notes are a little scrambled and sometimes hard to follow.
Microeconomics is going to be tough no matter who you have but Professor Doyle makes it better! She is very approachable and has many office hours available to answer any questions you have from lecture. It's important to go to class as she takes examples from lectures and puts them on exams. Definitely recommend her!
Professor Doyle certainly is one of the smartest Econ professors at JMU, but I would not recommend taking her class for Econ 201. Only had 3 tests, Homework was assigned every class, and she gave random quizzes that were almost as hard as her tests, which were impossible. DO NOT TAKE!
She loves to lecture students about how we're "in college now" but she doesn't treat you that way. The class was incredibly easy, but I found her condescending and disorganized. There were a lot of mistakes she made that became my responsibility to notice and get fixed. She's knowledgeable and passionate about the subject, though.
The person who gave the most recent review could not be more accurate! Big emphasis on the fact that she's passionate and knowledgable, yet condescending and disorganized. While her notes are hard to follow, she doesn't give you unnecessary information to write down, so it's manageable. She doesn't take attendance but going is so helpful for tests!
I really liked Professor Doyle. I found her teaching style very helpful and her lectures are important so don't skip class. I did not attend the pass sessions but I did read every chapter and completed the sapling learning activities, which are also very helpful. Not an easy class but with effort an A is possible!
Ms. Doyle is a great professor, she makes sure you understand the material, the class itself is very challenging but she does her best at explaining econometrics. She doesnt make you feel dumb for asking questions, makes econometrics easy to learn. Make sure to go to class, read the book, and go to her office hours.
The class is graded on a few quizzes & problem sets, two tests, & a final. To get a good grade in this class you need to make sure to do all the problems at the end of every chapter. I breezed through intro to micro & thought this class would be easy, but I ended up having to work to pass with a C. Just know how to do the problems & you'll be good.
I am a Quantitative Finance major and I was worried ECON331 wouldn't be mathematical enough for me. But Dr. Doyle uses her mathematics background and it gives real intuition behind the demand curve and where it comes from. Dr. Doyle's class is cut and dry--if you do the problems she wants you to do, you should do very well.
She is an awesome prof for econ in my opinion. Econ is a hard subject but she gives you good information during class and going to her office hours really helps.
If you don't do the homework you will not pass. Her lectures can get very confusing.
Professor Doyle is the most condescending and judgmental professor I have EVER encountered. Her lectures are incredibly disorganized, tedious, and boring. Her tests are designed to play mind games with you. She is passively aggressive towards students who answer her questions incorrectly and is not afraid to make an example out of you. DON'T TAKE!!
The rudest professor I've ever met. She takes off a lot of points on tests for the smallest mistakes. If you ever miss a class, ever, she will hold it over your head for the rest of the semester. Don't understand something new? Need help? Make a mistake on a test? Need a refresher? It's because you missed class 1 time a month ago, no help for you.
I was confident going into 201becuase I got an A- in 200. But this class was really hard. Her lectures never made sense and her tests were actually impossible.
Dr. Doyle is great at what she does. She really knows how to be successful as an Economic student and helps students to be so. Her lectures are thorough and she's not afraid to spend extra to explain hard ideas multiple times. Her exams are always preceded with quizzes that are similar. She gives lots of practice as hw, which is an easy grade boost
I wouldn't take. Knows econ, but unless you read graphs and can analyze them easy, this class will really hurt you. She is very smart, holds you accountable, but if math/graphs are not you, AVOID. The book is how I barely passed, and I am a COB major that soared in 204. Was my hardest class, does not use Canvas, and doesn't tell you your grades.
Lectures for me were easy to understand, she was thorough and never put anything on the exam that wasn't covered. I didn't read the textbook at all but I did every practice problem online given and reread my notes. The online work really helped. I wouldn't expect to get a good grade without trying but she does her part you just need to do yours.
Doyle doesn't get the credit she should. She responds to emails on time, and made econ (which seemed impossible to understand) easy to understand. This class is more of a test on how much work you'll put in. Textbook helps you understand the material so it is IMPORTANT to read. Help yourself and READ. Have the physical book & annotate it.
I am jaw-dropped by these ratings. She doesnt calculate your grade throughout the semester so we went into the final NOT KNOWING what we had. We are now 2 days away from grades being finalized and I still dont know my grade is or what I got on the final. She knows econ but this class is weighted too much on tests and I dont find it very fair.
Doyle is a good choice for 201. Her exams make up the majority of your grade, so be prepared. It's possible to do well if you read, do the hw, and try! She curves exams which is a bonus. She is disorganized, and you probably won't know your grade all semester. It's worth noting that she gets political and might offend people. She's nice though!
Honestly, if you take her then read your textbook. I got a B on the final without studying much but I consistently read before her class and that is what kept me doing well in the course: thats how I would know what she was talking about. I bought the books so I could annotate in them as well and that helps a lot!!
One of the best Econ professors at JMU, Great for 385. Doyle gives a mix of lectures, textbook readings, practice problems, and plenty of examples. She does a good job explaining the material in multiple ways in order for students to understand it. Build a good stat/regression foundation leading up to exam 1, the rest of the sem will be easier.
Evreything in these reviews are correct. She gives you all the material you need to pass this class, but she makes the class harder than it needs to be as her lectures are very fast and is very textbook reliant perhaps due to the nature of the course. Her tone rubs some the wrong way, and her class is very mathematical. Wasnt for me, respectfully.
ECON 284: Professor Doyle is very knowledgeable, and she gives you all the materials you need to get an A. Ask her questions, do the homework and go to office hours and you'll do well. She is super kind and brings in real life applications to the practice problems.
ECON 201 is a pretty difficult class. She expects you to read the textbook chapters multiple times to know it inside and out. 10% of grade is homework and online quizzes, but the other 90% comes from 4 in-person tests that are pretty difficult. Read textbook, come to class prepared, and study a lot and you will do fine
Dr. Doyle is by far the best econ professor at JMU. She has been teaching 385 for 20ish years and it really shows. She gives you absolutely everything you need to succeed: good readings, effective test prep problems, and meaningful assignments that really help you lock down the material. Tough, old-school professor who really does know her field
Great class for resume building and creating impressive projects that you can show to employers. Third class with Doyle; best econ prof at JMU. Knows the material front to back and explains everything clear as day. Definitely more relaxed than 385 with only one exam and lots of interesting projects and problem sets. Don't let "advanced" scare you.
She is an annoying teacher, I didnt like the subject and she would pick on people in class and put them on the spot. The grades were mainly just tests and she graded harshly. I had to read the textbook and take notes heavily to have an okay grade.
Class is so difficult. She expects you to know everything but doesn't teach it. Doesn't out grades in canvas for no reason and doesn't respond to emails. Cancels office hours often. Praying she's absent every time I have to go to class
terrible professor. terrible lectures. terrible exams that have nothing to do with her practice quizzes. dont take her.
Definitely would not take her class again. What she explains does not make sense. Find myself studying for hours. Tests so much and assigns so much readings. Does not put up your grade on canvas. Only thing that goes into your gradebook for this class is tests. Classes are mandatory.
Prof. Doyle is decent. Honestly, one of the best you'll find given our econ department. If you do not read the textbook or do the practice quizzes, you WILL fail. I definitely had to study a ton. She only lectures and moves very quickly, her notes are sloppy and hard to read. She moves fast so it makes note taking hard. 4 quizzes 2 tests 1 final.
Her exams are nothing like the practice quizzes she gives, and her lectures and notes she has us take during class are really confusing.
Dr. Doyle is a good econ professor. As long as you show up, take notes, and read the textbook occasionally, you'll be fine. Ask questions and go to office hours and she'll like you. She does do cold calls which is annoying but just have your notes out and you'll be okay. Can be rude but if you are a good student you'll succeed.
Probably your best bet for microeconomics, the whole department needs work. She got the job done, if you don't read the textbook or study outside of class then good luck. Very lecture heavy, would often go off topic and waste class time. Takes hand written notes and moves very quickly. I finished with an A+, DO THE PRACTICE QUIZZES.
Genuinely one of the worst professors I've ever had. She is incapable of teaching, her graphs are seldom understandable and her notes are in chicken scratch. She flips out if the class doesn't answer questions the way she wants them to, and has poor accessibility outside of class. Doesn't curve, and doesn't know how to use canvas. A disgrace to JMU
