Very easy class. I never pay attention but if you do the take home quizzes and the study guide it's an easy A for sure. take her! theres 3 papers you'll do but they are quite easy.
TAKE HER!! This class is so so so easy! She's pretty funny and loves her job which makes the lectures easier to sit through. You'll ace her quizzes if you skim readings, and ace her exams if you just do her study guide. I highly recommend this class and professor!!!
Nicest prof. My favorite. Very funny and easygoing. Aced every quiz; basic knowledge. Lectures explain everything and she posts them on D2L. Loves her studies and is interested in what she does. lots of readings posted on D2L and i would read them b/c she refers to them often. no surprises on tests/quizzes. study guide shows everything on exam. :)
She is the most amazing prof. I have ever had! She made this topic so interesting, I wanted to go. I was inspired to learn more, she was so passionate, I just LOVE her!!
She is very animated during lectures. I had her at 8:00 in the morning and she managed to keep me interested enough to stay awake. Do the readings for the tests and quizzes and you will be fine. I strongly recommend her because she is very nice and very straightforward. Do your homework and study guides and you will succeed.
She was my first professor in my first class on the first day and I couldn't have had a better intro to college. She is fantastic, intelligent and extremely helpful. Visit her on office hours, even just to talk. It's worth it!
I have had jahnks for 3 of my classes, she is the best. I would recommend that you take her in any class that she is teaching. She loves her job, and does a hell of a time doing it.
Joanne is a very expressive, very passionate professor who loves the topics she teaches. She is an excellent teacher, who I wish I could take more classes from. Do the readings and assignments, and you'll get a good grade. Take her class, you won't regret it!
take her. she knows what shes talking about and is so passionate about it! she loves what she does and it shows. put some effort in and you'll get a good grade! sit in front, too!
Class had a lot of reading, some was pretty difficult. She is very helpful and will take the time to answer emails and question during and after class. Passionate about history and interested in different eras than her area of study. Very nice and extremely dedicated. Favorite professor all year. Loved her.
Such a great teacher! Really is passionate about what she's talking about. Go to class for notes and attendance but her tests/quizzes are straight forward. Easy extra credit points on tests if you skim the assigned readings. She may sound intimidating at first but she's really nice. Definitely recommend it.
She is very knowledgeable about what she teaches and so passionate about the subject. She provides power points for all her lectures and tells you ahead of time what will be on tests & quizzes. She grades papers very closely and expects correct punctuation and style, but if you follow directions and do the readings, you will have no problems.
Can tell relevant interesting stories about any topic. She is intimidatingly smart in the best way. She is funny without trying to be and gives you an outline of the exam a week before hand. Do what she asks and you will do great.
I didn't mind this class I just hated the amount of reading that we had to do, which is to be expected in a history class. Professor Jahnke is a funny woman with a lot of sarcasm and sass which is entertaining. Tests and quizzes weren't tough but definitely need to do the readings to do well. Overall not a bad class at all.
Can come off as a little bit intimidating but very helpful if you ask her questions. Tests have an outline to study from and are based solely off that outline. Lectures can be somewhat boring topics but she makes them interesting! Lots of reading assigned but not necessarily mandatory if you pay attention in class. Very manageable and doable!
I don't mean to scare anyone away but she is one of the most intimidating people I have ever met. But even so, she is extremely passionate about what she does and genuinely cares about teaching every student and giving them the materials they need to learn. She's badass but also extremely tough.
Professor Jahnke was my favorite professor! She is extremely accomodating and will help you in any way if you tell her you need it. The class was very reading heavy, but if you didn't have time to read them she would talk about the important ones in class. Gives you a study guide before exam that is very helpful. Super funny and made the class fun!
Great class to do for your generals. She is very passionate about her work. She makes class really fun to be in. Quizzes and Exams are based off her notes and essays are based off the readings she sends out.
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! She is hilarious and such an amazing woman. This class really made me rethink the world around me and what I had been taught in the past. There is a decent amount of homework but the tests are very straightforward and prof will help you with a review sheet. I thought I would be bored but I actually loved the class!
Prof. Jahnke was the best! She may seem scary at first but really cares about each student. Her way of teaching really makes one understand history and how often the truth is obscured from what is taught. The class has awesome lectures, readings, practice worksheets on analyzing primary sources, online quizzes, & 3 exams that have review sheets.
Professor Jahnke is extremely knowledgeable in her field and an overall great person. She gives really passionate and interesting lectures, and she encourages discussion. She cares about her students and will help them to succeed if they reach out. Professor Jahnke is one of my favorite professors, and I really enjoyed her class!
Your grade mostly rides on four tests throughout the semester, but due to corona we were allowed unlimited time and open note. The primary source analysis' weren't the best but as long as you follow her format and ask questions, it's an easy pass.
Prof Jahnke is a SOLID choice! I took her HIST 114 and couldn't pass up the chance to take my first upper div. history w/ her! She really cares about each student, always giving AWESOME/HELPFUL feedback. She teaches history in the "bottom-up" fashion, making it interesting and representational of the often marginalized histories of the minorities.
Dr. Jahnke is an okay choice. She has some very strong views on political/other issues, but never singles any students out and is always respectful of her students. The work is fairly easy even though there is quite a bit of it. Despite getting a bit carried away with herself during lectures, she cares about her students and their success.
I highly recommend taking at least one of her classes while you're at UWEC!! She makes history so interesting and tells it as it actually happened. There is a lot of reading but it's easy to understand and worth the read. Her tests are easy, untimed and open note. She is an extremely kind and fair teacher. TAKE HER CLASS!!
Professor Wegner is great! If you get the chance, take her. She understands that we are students with lots of work so tries to make our life as easy as possible. A wonderful professor
Truly a passionate professor which made it easy to listen to her lectures. Really blunt and straightforward with content and reality, but really interesting as well. Would normally never take history but did because of such great ratings and do not regret one bit. Interesting human and truly cares about students. Lecture heavy but good content!
HIST 114/370: Extended an assignment deadline after I forgot I was lactose intolerant and had queso for dinner. Cared about my well-being and getting better instead of my late work during family deaths and ongoing emergencies. Realizes we are students first. Doesn't teach revisionist history and is an absolute badass. Best teacher ever.
Dr. Jahnke cares about her students and how they are doing. This was a shortened Winterm class, so it was a lot for 3 weeks. The class was interesting, and the connections she made with books and articles were incredible. This is just one of the 3 classes I have taken with her; if I could take more, I would. The class is not easy but worth it.
Dr. Jahnke is the best professor I've had at UWEC. She is able to make really complicated subjects seem easy through her lectures. She is always available to help students in need. It is obvious she cares a lot about what she is teaching, and the light workload allows for students to really focus on the materials. Her class was so interesting!
Seriously one of the best professors i have ever had! i highly recommend her as she has great lectures that she puts a lot of effort into. There is an online textbook that is easy to read and she has a guide questions to go along with the readings that are used during class so i recommend doing those. just overall great professor!
I absolutely loved taking her class. It is clear she is extremely passionate and knowledgable on the subjects she teaches, which makes the class enjoyable. As long as you do the readings and show up for class, the tests and quizzes are easy. The potentially challenging part of her class are the writing assignments/projects, so be detailed.
Dr. Jahnke was intimidating at the beginning of the semester and brings strong points across on different viewpoints of history. However, she is super understanding and is now one of my favorite professors. Go to class to get content needed for essays, the lectures and discussions are fairly interesting. would definitely recommend.
History has never been something that interests me but Dr. Jahnke makes this class interesting. All tests are online including the final. She encourages you to use notes for the exam. There is a lot of reading to be prepared for the class but not something you necessarily have to do. She is very understanding and flexible with due dates.
Professor Jahnke is a great teacher! I am not a huge fan of history and was regretting taking a history class. She made it enjoyable and fun and I highly recommend taking her class.
Professor Jahnke is very enthusiastic about history and teaching. She is very nice and approachable if you have any questions. This course reached a variety of topics and she was very respectful with tougher topics. There is no physical textbook which was super nice to be able to do reading assignments from anywhere online.
This professor was one of my favorites. She really wants everyone to learn and do well in her class. She is very knowledgeable and honest about history. As a person she is so genuine and caring. I would take her class again if I was able to!
Dr. Jahnke is one of the most brutally honest, passionate, and real professors I have ever had. She truly cares about history, but more importantly the side of history that people try to forget. I never did any of the readings and I did just fine. All quizzes and exams are online and go hand in hand with the PowerPoints from lectures.
Dr. Jahnke is very passionate about history, so much so she will be yelling and swearing at 8am, so be prepared. There are is a large amount of reading she assigns, but she talks about it in class, so I never did it. The quizzes and exams are carbon copied from the powerpoints she posts.
Very passionate, and knows what shes talking about. probably the best history teacher I've ever had and I'm not a fan of history. thoroughly enjoyed the class.
Dr. Jahnke-Wegner was very passionate and had a lot to talk about, she is clear, but she did it often in a way that was not professional, she often uses offensive language, and often offers up her opinion about current events.
Love professor Wegner! She had great lectures and the amount of information that she provides is awesome! Her understanding of history, and the combined ability to teach makes for one of the best professors at Eau-Claire! She always has great study guides and lets you use powerpoints on the tests too. -Dr. Lishitski
Very good at making sure you have all the information you need to complete every assignment. Quizzes and tests are all online and open for at least a few days. She has a lot of passion for everything she talks about in her class and lots of opinions surrounding the content.
I love Dr. Jahnke. she is so smart, caring, and just an amazing person. Her lectures are always so entertaining and I love it. She will give you the truth and never whitewashes anything and its very nice to hear the truth. She is also very understanding that we have other classes and activities, so she is slay for that one.
Dr. Jahnke is so caring and honestly one of the best history professors on campus. This class was very challenging, but Dr. Jahnke was willing to give additional time and give great feedback. Be ready to work for your grade in this class, but it will totally be worth it!
Hist 288 is a challenging class regardless who teaches it, but Professor Jahnke-Wegner made the class much more doable. She is very understanding and helpful. She also gives back useful feedback that you can actually use to better your work. She never loses sight that we are still just students learning about the history profession.
My favorite history professor, she is incredibly understanding, attendance isn't graded and all late work is accepted. Her lectures are AMAZING, she doesn't white wash anything and keeps history very real. She is brutally honest and doesn't hold back, and even though the material she teaches is tough, she does an amazing job.
Highly recommend taking her class. She cares a lot and puts a lot of time into what she does. She does assign homework but it's not too bad she understands college is stressful. She is very accommodating just email or talk to her. Her tests are not hard at all and teaches exactly what's on the test. I can't say enough good things about her class.
Dr. Jahnke was amazing! History is not my best subject, but she made this class so interesting. I learned way more than I did in my high school classes. Her tests/quizzes were not difficult, and it's really hard not to pass the class. Just do your part by doing/turning in assignments and you'll be fine. My favorite history class I've ever had!
She was amazing! i thought her having a great personality was really helpful. She made the lectures and information so interesting because she was so passionate about her work. I also think that because she cares about her students and she wants you to succeed in her class, that makes her even more amazing. With that, her lectures are HEAVY notes.
Dr. Jahnke is overall an amazing person. She's understanding and is passionate about her research. She also cares a lot about her students and is understanding if you reach out for help. I dislike that she posts assignments late on canvas. We are also a month into the semester and she has not graded a single assignment. There is also lot of writing
The tests and quizzes in this class are easy but be prepared to discuss readings in class. The class was very interesting, but I did not like the way Professor Jahnke-Wegner taught it. She is very nice but let her personal views affect the content she was teaching. Overall, I would take this class again because it was pretty easy.
Dr Wegner is very passionate about what she teaches in this class makes the students want to learn more and makes everyone more intrigued. The in-class writings suck but she's not a hard grader, Tests, and quizzes are super easy it is all online and open note/book. The textbook is online. One of my favorite classes to go to.
My favorite professor in all of my years at UWEC. She is very passionate about what she teaches and very understanding and empathetic to her students. She often rubs people the wrong way due to how political her lessons can be, but that is what college level history is. Don't take her class if you're looking for right wing curated history.
She cool.
Loved her! Difficult class but she wants everyone to suceed.
Her lectures are very informational and interesting. She is considerate and flexible. I enjoyed the class. The readings are tough. If you dont do them, youll be fine. The tests are online and are easy. You dont need to study too hard.
She is a good professor and lecturer. Lots of reading. She frames things in a way that would make a lot of sense for history majors or people more into the subject but if you're not familiar with historical concepts the class can be kind of hard. Kind of frustrating I had things from 9 weeks prior not graded and continued receiving many assignments
She is really passionate about history and will let you know how much she does. She tends to write notes in a collaborative way on the whiteboard rather than slides. She has weekly quizzes and many other assignments. Overall she was a good professor but also not for everyone
She was such a nice professor and really cared for her students. She made sure that all her students had the right information when thinking about history. It was more of a how and why things happened and not so much a when, where, and who. You don't have to memorize wars, dates, etc. Hard course but I really liked this professor.
Dr. Jahnke is one of the best professors in the history department. While she does assign a lot of readings, that's pretty standard for the field anyway. She can be a harsh grader but it depends on the assignment. She is amazing but your grade will be based on the effort you give. I recommend her to anyone and everyone who likes history.
Everyone needs to have this professor at one point. She is absolutely amazing and wonderful. She knows her information well and makes sure you do too. Exams and quizzes are easy, she makes the study outline clear for you. You need to read primary sources and the textbook before each class but it's well worth it. I took a lot away from her.
Lots of in-class work, reading, and writing. However, it genuinely helps you understand the material and you will learn a LOT. She is extremely caring and understanding, and is very approachable. Highly recommend. All tests and quizzes are taken outside of class which is nice.
She is an amazing person, but I just didn't learn well in her class. There are intensive historical readings to be done for each class period. This was her first time teaching this class, so it was just a little bumpy. Amazing professor who is infinitely passionate about history.
Dr. J was a terrific and caring lecturer. She was extremely passionate about the subject matter and did a great job in getting all of us to understand at her level. We had to read A LOT for the class but it was relevant and helpful in writing our essays at the end of each unit. She was a fairly easy grader but the assignments take some real effort
Grades every piece of in class work and harshly even. Lots of out of class reading. Primary source analysis quizzes. Nothing is multiple choice. Stay away from this course if you want an easy class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Joanne is an awful teacher. Boring lectures and tests you based upon your writing skills. Midterm is all short answer and essay based and on things that I do not remember her teaching. You have to read so many sources and it takes away from the enjoyment of the class.
Avoid this class if possible! Lots of homework, it is all online and contains a ton of reading out of class. Grades harshly on in class writing assignments. Midterm contains no multiple choice and is all short answer and essay work. Not a good class to take for an average student.
she grades you very harshly. even if you meet the criteria she will take points off. also very opinionated. i wouldn't recommend this class to anyone.
Very engaging teaching style and genuinely cares about the education you receive.
Not good. Hard to access and gives a ton of homework and never grades it. Feels pointless taking her class
She is very caring and kind, but the courseload for a 100-level course is kind of wild. I've had upper 300 courses that were way easier than this. I wouldn't recommend it if you're just taking the class for liberal education requirements. Only take it if you like history.
Dr. Jahnke is an ok professor and is obviously passionate about history, but I wouldn't recommend this class. There is A LOT of reading to do outside of class. She also tends to ramble, so we often didn't cover what we read for class. The midterm was difficult, all short answer and essay. Her grading takes a long time!
Okay lectures, they were just very long. Homework was for every class and it was tedious. She would also grade harshly all assignments even small in-class writing assignments. Don't recommend this elective unless you love researching history.
Worst professor I've ever had. Very harsh grader, even on small in-class assignments. Ridiculous expectations for the mid-term. Takes forever to grade things. Talks down to students like she's better than them. There is an absurd amount of reading and forced note-taking assignments for every. single. class. DO NOT TAKE
Professor Wegner cares about her students but her class is WAY TOO HARD. Her syllabus was not clear and she would make up assignments throughout the year. She complains about having to grade writing assignments, but those are the only things she assigns for homework and in class work. She takes months to grade assignments. DO NOT TAKE
Tough class. I love how she teaches though. She is so passionate about the topic and isn't afraid to get into her own opinion too (which I love and find hilarious). Her terminology is so funny and the way she goes about the topics is natural. She really knows her stuff. There is a lot of reading but you ACTUALLY LEARN STUFF! BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!!!
Soapboxes about her politics in grading and in-class. Extreme in her views and gets emotional when they're challenged. DO NOT TAKE.
Really did not enjoy how long she took to grade. Never once responded to my emails, I asked her about that and she told me "I did see your email, I'll get back to you on that"..... it's been months. Grades attendance and in-class participation. Most of the assignments were done in class, on paper. The online reading responses are a pain in the butt
DO not take her classes, she takes so long to grade assignments, will NOT respond to your email, and even if she does, she won't do what she says she will do. I emailed 5-6 times about her grading my assignments, she responded once (2 weeks ago) saying she would grade them by the end of the week..... she did not.
I finished with a A+ but I am not sure if I would take the course again. The lectures are long and a bit boring and I am not fond of her as a professor. Overall assessment, has a agenda she wants to push and if you just go with the flow you will get a high grade, you will learn a lot but have to take it all with a grain of salt. Wouldn't take again
Professor Jahnke-Wegner has super engaging lectures. She is passionate and excited to be in class. She cares about her students and creates clear expectations for assignments and tests. Test were also online which was great.
Love how passionate she is about the course, but she is a really tough grader. All of the quizzes and tests are online, however she grades them really hard. One mess up will drop you 10 points. She doesn't respond to emails, but she does read them.
DO NOT TAKE! I hate to be critical of professor's professional abilities, but I felt it was needed for Dr. J. She didn't grade our midterms until the week before finals. The general uncomfortableness of her class is unsettling, and I truly hope I never required to take a class of hers again.
Dr. J was the best! Funny asf in almost everything she says. I had the pleasure to take her back to back semesters. The class is tough and she will tell you that "History is hard" and it is. The class uses a free online book. The textbook doesnt give any BS excuses and neither does DR.J. I would take her again purely for the comedy......... Onward!
I don't understand the comments about the uncomfortableness, but she is a really tough grader and takes a while to get back to you on a lot of things. It's not bad this semester because of her TA, though. There's a lot of writing and lectures and there's so much reading but if you pay attention to the lectures, you can get by without reading.
Takes forever to grade, does not respond to emails and the lectures are very boring. She is very nice however not a great teacher.
She assigns SO much reading, like a chapter in the textbook, along with primary sources, and packets. I ended up just giving up with all the reading, and reading what I needed for the beginning of class. I had a hard time learning with her, and made her opinions VERY clear right away. I was so scared to speak in her class, and was uncomfortable
Always felt uncomfortable in class. Took FOREVER to grade. Finals are in two weeks and she still hasn't graded our midterms. She has you read SO much, I'm a slower to average reader pace and it probably took 2 hours to finish all the reading. With 5 minute breaks sometimes. She very obviously had favorites, and knew their names, but never mine.
