She does not care about her students and is not willing to help her students in any way. She is an extremely hard marker. Interesting topics discussed but don't recommend this prof!
Weekly quizes which you can do well on. A huge paper that she marks really hard. You can miss ONE quiz, but unfortunately I got really sick and could not leave my room for almost 2 weeks, I had to bring in so many doctors notes and put up a big fight before she would let me drop an extra test. Doesn't seem to really care about her students.
By far the worst prof I've had at laurier, has weekly tests worth 7% each and gives terrible questions with vague answers that she justifies somehow and doesn't budge on. I originally enrolled in a class next term which she is teaching, and am now dropping it solely based on her teaching style in this course. DON'T take this class
terrible prof, would not recommend her to anyone. Exams are not reasonable, very hard and confusing.
Prof is too funny with her accent and her jokes. Explains course concepts pretty well.
Avoid taking this class! This professor treats students with disrespect, and asks ridiculous questions on the quizzes that all of the class gets wrong, but she sees it as a problem with us and not with her questions. Will never take a class with her again.
Switch out if you get this teacher! Very unprofessional, often comes in late, doesn't care about her students and is downright confusing. Worst teacher I've ever had.
So confusing and boring
One of the most difficult and unprofessional profs I have ever had. She was disrespectful to students and she made me hate a subject I was really interested in. 70% of your mark is based on weekly quizzes that have unfair questions and the other 30% is a near impossible paper that over half of the class failed. Drop this class now.
Seriously the WORST professor I have EVER had. RUDE. Hard to understand (funny consider it was a language development class). Makes her students feel like idiots and her written assignment was unnecessarily hard. SERIOUSLY THE WORST I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH!!!
Very disrespectful towards students, makes numerous unprofessional comments in class. Written assignment instructions are vague and very difficult to do well on. Save yourself the trouble and do not take this class.
Many people think she's a terrible prof. She can be quite funny. Her tests are an average difficulty rate. She is a little bit hard to understand through her accent but if you do your work you will do well.
Dr. Lee is a helpful prof if you come to class and seem to care about the subject. She deals with constant e-mails asking things she's explained over and over. i couldn't do it if I was her. My class went from about 400 to 150 in attendance over the term and half the people sat there watching friends and checking e-mail and facebook all class long
Very bad prof, heavy accent, not clear whatsoever. Spent lots of class time on irrelevant information
Dr. Lee is the cutest prof Really passionate about her work and truly wants you to succeed.. Gives lots of extra credit assignments to boost your grade
Always goes off topic, very uninspiring psychology teachers and makes completely ridiculous quizzes.
Easy to understand. Easy to follow lectures. always posted notes. Always nice to deal with. made an effort to remember people. Always gave good feedback when asked for it.
had her twice, she's hilarious I liked her lectures alot!
She's hilarious and very generous with bonus assignments. I'm praying I have her for future psych classes! Just go to class and you'll be fine
Although it was very tough to understand her throughout the lectures she kept the class interested by throwing jokes here and there ! Very easy marker ! Make sure you do the bonus assignments !!! they really help !
very nice and very rude, likes to put students down :(
Funniest lady, had her for psych 101 and 102. Midterms are straightforward and very textbook based, which she does a good job of covering in lecture. She always cracks jokes and does her best to not make class boring!
Examination was easy if you did the work. However, the professor is hard to understand with her accent. If you miss a day of class and don't do the readings you will be lost!
Always cracking jokes and makes the class fun. Not interested in psych and only took it as an elective to fill up a slot but she makes coming to class something to look forward to and makes the material fun. love her!
Joanne makes her lectures interesting and always likes to crack jokes. She has an accent but I find it pretty easy to understand her. One of my favourite classes to go to. She doesn't post lecture slides though so you have to go to class to make sure you get all the information.
Joanne Lee is a god among people
She's not a bad prof. A little hard to understand at first because of her accent, but you get used to it. Lectures are a bit boring, but bearable. Her tests are pretty straight forward so if you go to lecture or read the textbook you should be fine.
Joanne was the best prof that i've had so far. She made me want to come to lectures and had this motherly way about her that made the students feel that she cares for them, which she does. She is all in all a great prof and I would gladly take another course with her again.
Joanne Lee was probably one of the hardest profs i had in first year, but she was hilarious in lecture, as long as you use the information that she gives in lecture (which she doesn't post online) and go read the textbook about those topics, you'll pass perfectly fine
Joanne Lee was one of my favourite profs at Laurier. She really cared about her class and gave us many opportunities to do well in her course. All in all she was really great and I would definitely recommend her as a prof.
an awesome professor who makes lectures bearable. Her midterms are good if you study and know your concepts. Loved having psych with her
Pros:-outlines study material for tests -gives extra credit quiz to promote attendance Cons:-lectures slides are unstructured and not helpful -many inaccuracies in information she presents and uses crudes examples to teach a concept -situations in test questions are unorthodox and difficult to relate to the concept -lots of time wasted in lectures
It's sad that this prof is getting some bad reputation, she's actually quite 'whimsical'. She always comes in the lecture with this passionate and enthusiastic attitude, and like another person said she speaks to all of us with such a caring, concerning, and motherly manner. P.S. the jokes she makes primarily involves making fun of her son, lol.
Would not recommend taking PS101 if you have Joanne Lee, lectures are boring and very hard to understand. Also her midterms were very difficult as were the online quizzes
loved her every class!!!!!!! showed up to every class this semester, cant get enough!!!!! always nice and well spirited. always in a good mood and ready for a laugh, course content is relevant, understandable, and accurately reflects whats on the midterm, love it....!
Amazing prof! Attend classes though. Does not post slides (sometimes posts 2 slides from a lecture if it was a lot of writing). She keeps class interesting by constantly talking about herself and her son which is super funny. GIVES OUT SO MANY EASY BONUS MARKS! Very good that she puts Neuroscience on first midterm - makes others easier!!!!
Joanne needs to stop wasting lecture time with weird jokes & needs to stop with the irrelevant talking. She can improve by making her lectures & slides more understandable and by acting a little more professional. Other than that, the extra marks from doing online quizzes and PREP is great, and I like how she often reminds us about important dates.
Dr. Lee, is literally the funniest Prof I've had so far, and by far one of the more caring profs. Honestly, her class is work, you HAVE to read the textbook, but it's worth taking a course with her because she's so funny and nice. Don't be scared off by the amount of reading, it is 100% worth the effort to have her teach you
Nice Woman, But the course is content heavy and no chance to make up the work if you can't keep up with her pace.
Dr. Lee is the sweetest professor. She does not post her lecture slides online to encourage attendance, but if you have a legitimate reason for missing a lecture you can just go to her office hours and she will give you notes. Reading the textbook is not necessary if you show up to lecture and take good notes. She is always willing to help you out!
Dr. Lee is a gem, her lectures made me enjoy going to class. PS 101/102 can be difficult in the sense that it is so broad (many topics). She tries her best to still make it interesting and makes her tests very fair. It is not hard to do decently well if you have her for first year pysch.
Funniest prof I've ever had! She made going to a content heavy lecture enjoyable and was always able to make the whole lecture hall laugh!
Pros: Keeps things light with personal anecdotes relating to the subject matter. Clear expectations. Many opportunities to succeed if you come to class. Extra credit. Cons: Must read the textbook, as she is sometimes inaccurate in lecture. Can't explain things in a different way, so if you ask for clarification, she will just repeat herself.
Very caring and amusing but her tests are hard.
She was my favorite professor first semester. She is very intelligent, and doesn't go on irrelevant rants like most profs. She is very funny, and makes the class interesting! She sticks to core materials, I only studied my notes (didn't read the textbook) and finished with an 80%. Her tests are hard, you must understand all concepts thoroughly.
Joanne Lee was standard prof there to do her job. She is hilarious and makes heavy lectures more enjoyable with rants and jokes. Defs read the textbook because it helps but it is a lot of reading. I would take her class again! Midterms and exam are mostly application type questions, but all multiple choice too.
Yes she gives extra credit assignments which are great, and she cracks jokes, but she is one of the worst teachers I've ever had. She lures people to come to class by not posting her lecture slides, and she talks for only 30 seconds about each major topic. She covers everything too briefly and makes up her own points. Would not recommend.
not the best at explaining things and rambles on about things unrelated to the course.
Dr. Lee is an incredible prof. Her lectures are entertaining, she's hilarious, makes concepts very clear, and always gives tips on what specific material will be tested. She also offers lots of extra-credit assignments. She genuinely cares about her students and is easily accessible if you need help outside of class. Highly recommend, a real gem!
My favourite professor that Ive had thus far. Lectures cover all tested material, gives fair exams and is a fair marker.
She has easy midterms that cover stuff straight out of lecture slides, however she does not post online, so attending class is pretty much mandatory. Also has extra credit assignments that help a lot. Only compliant is that this woman has NO FILTER. She says whatever she wants and calls out students like it's nobody's business.
Makes an effort to make meaningful and often funny connections to material. Exams have an emphasis on lecture material but the textbook and wiley plus questions are your bible. Study those and show up, you'll do great.
Favorite prof of my first year! She genuinely cares about her students, and her lectures are always entertaining. Attending class is mandatory but her slides are very well done, and the midterms are straight from them. She gives constant support to students, and even gives helpful advice for how to succeed on her exams.
Dr. Lee made psych 101 an extremely enjoyable class, and very clearly cares deeply for her students' success. She extends office hours if the avg for a test is low and encourages students to talk with her. She covers material in a comprehensible way while keeping a positive atmosphere in the classroom. Absolutely would recommend.
Professor Lee was my favourite prof first year. She truly knows how to bring people to class. ALWAYS left me smiling and laughing every lecture. She should double as a comedian haha. I really want her again as a prof and I am gonna miss her next semester if I don't get in the waitlist. This class (PS101) is not easy so don't take it as a bird!
Dr Lee's PS101 class was really interesting. Her midterms and final were all based off of her lectures and were mostly application questions. There aren't any clicker questions in class but she has a couple of extra credit quizzes and assignments to help boost your mark. Overall a really funny and adorable prof!
I had Lee for PS101 and 102, and she's truly the sweetest. She Is hilarious and tries to get the point across. Her slides are not amazing, I'll give you that. However, the textbook is so good that if you study the textbook well then you'll do great on the tests. She gives lots of extra credit. It's work but I'd do it again
Her lecture slides aren't the best and wont get you past a 60 but if you study from the textbook, this course is really enjoyable.
Had her for PS101 (A-) PS102 (B+), she'll get you to go to class not only because she doesn't post slides but because she's really funny. If you're the type of person to ask stupid questions don't take her course but she offers more extra credit then any other prof. Her exams/midterms are all multiple choice and taken from wiley plus.
Online quizzes wiley plus are hard but just do them with friends then you're good as there are 3 tries with 4 M/C options. Lecture heavy and should write down her examples as a reminder. Textbook is good for reference but mostly lecture. Very funny knowledgeable and caring prof. A lot of extra credit. Must listen to everything and understand
One of my favourite profs in first year! Very entertaining lectures but there is a lot of tests/quizzes.
Joanne Lee seemed to care about her students, but class was always very boring. She is difficult to understand at times, and often stopped class at the slightest noise for minutes, threatening to kick the student out of class. The midterm and final were both difficult, and her slides are terrible in comparison to other psych professors.
Dr. Lee is an amazing prof! Sometimes she can be a little difficult to understand, but her lecture slides and in-class examples are really easy to understand. As long as you take good notes, attend class, and do the WileyPLUS quizes, you are golden. Make sure to opt-in to WIleyPLUS, as it lowers your final exam from 68% to 50% weight.
She doesn't post slides, so you have to go to class but she doesn't do clickers. You can't ask her a question about anything because she will tell you "read the course syllabus". Lectures are boring & if someone's phone goes off she goes crazy. Midterm was hard but the WP was easy. Even when moved online it was worse.
A lot of people love Dr. Lee but her class was not for me. Her lecture slides were not detailed and though she was funny and cared for her students, her lectures were very boring. If anyone had a notification go off in class she would get really mad, so keep your devices on silent! Do the WileyPlus quizzes because otherwise the exam is worth 68%.
I think Joanne Lee is a great person but not a good marker. Would not recommend online but please study the textbook and do wileyplus quizzes. Never forget about PREP! Doesnt pose slides and posts web pages which doesnt help tbh.
Very sweet prof but the midterms and tests had a very low class average because she does not post slides. she posts web pages and makes you read.
DO NOT take her online courses. Her assignments are ill-prepared. She grades 0/6, for a incorrect "yes or no", while she doesn't clarify the question and punishes you for making common sense assumptions about an ambiguous topic. Lost 22% for saying "yes". Then she posts about the low average of the assignment. SMH
She always made her lectures fun and easy to follow, she always made her points clear and was never boring or monotone.
Super kind and caring, and always made lectures entertaining. Not sure about other courses, but the midterm and exam were not too bad as long as you study and read the textbook chapters once. She provided bonus assignments, and WileyPlus quizzes where we could use notes or google took 30% of our mark. The cutest prof ever, would take again.
I've had her for PS101, PS102, and PS275. I've ended each class with a 12. She has no filter so people may find her rude. She is hilarious and caring. She is strict about extra credit but for covid and remote learning she gave us extra credit in PS102 and PS275. Don't be scared of other reviews, if you study you can end up with a 12.
She is a true gem in the psych dept. Really cares for her students and wants them to succeed. Easily accessible outside of classroom, in fact loves when students come in for office hours. Made me fall in love with psych & switch my program!
Amazing prof! She's super caring and goes out of her way to make sure students understand the content. She does everything she possibly can to cater to students needs and is very understanding. She's also very entertaining. 10/10 would recommend!
Joanne Lee was my favourite prof in my undergrad. I took PS101/102 & 275 with her. Super caring and really tried to relate to her students. Made sure assignments were clear and offered to stay after class to help students. Assessments were reasonable and fairly graded. She also happens to be hilarious. She made learning fun.10/10 would recommend!
Amazing prof! You can tell she really cares for the students well being and wants everyone to succeed. Her midterms and finals were more than fair and if you study while attending the lectures you're bound to get at least a B and higher. Super accessible outside of class hours and her lectures were engaging considering it was health psych.
She's very funny and entertaining to listen to at times. However, her lecture slides consist mostly of graphs and studies. She claims you'll do well on exams from going to class but she doesn't cover most of the content on the exams in her lectures. Luckily, there are easy assignments to boost your mark but you have to read the whole txtbook 4 exam
I've had three different psych teachers so far and she's absolutely my favourite. She treats her students like friends and uses real life events as examples to make everything easier to understand. Exams are easier too because she'll let us prepare more than 10 pages of crib sheets.
Joanne Lee threatens to kick students out of class and does not care about her student's success. Her midterm and exam were very difficult despite having 10 pages of crib sheets and the averages were very low. She is completely unbothered by this.
Joanne is very nice and full of joy. My only complaint is her tests, she gave a cheat-sheet for our midterm and final but it was still confusing as I went to every lecture and took notes, hard to tell what she's wanting you to retain.
Beware of this Prof. She comes off as nice and enjoyable in class but will completely f**k you over on your presentation marks. She told everyone she would go easy because no one has ever presented before and completely nit picks everything you do in the presentation.Pop Quizzes in random classes and she makes you buy her book. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!
I never understood her poor ratings until now. She is typically a very pleasant prof, until she isn't. Maybe she doesn't enjoy teaching anymore. She destroys your confidence, is extremely rude and dismissive, and a hard marker on top of that. If she's having a bad day, it will be your problem. She's very unprofessional.
The worst prof. The entire class was very fair until the exam. The questions were based on material that was not covered in lectures and was only in the textbook in small sections, which was extremely unreasonable. The exam average ended up being a 53% and she did not curve it at all. Avoid if you can
Not gonna lie, the class went smooth in the beginning but later on especially presentations I found her to be too difficult at her grading and some instructions were unclear. She is a nice professor but I wish she graded lighter on presentations.
I would absolutely take another course with her! She's an engaging and knowledgeable professor. Her assignments and expectations are very clear, and her marking is fair—often more generous than most professors. Overall, she makes it easy to succeed if you put in the effort!
She started off fine, but her grading and feedback worsened as the term went on. She claimed presentations would be graded easily but marked unfairly.I got a 6/10 with the only critique being "project your voice more," despite consistently scoring 9/10 in BU111 and that says a lot . Her mood impacts students, making her bad days your problem.
She marked presentations unfairly, gave awful feedback(I got feedback on items that weren't even on my presentation),took her bad moods out on us.She forced attendance with pop quizzes and didn't hide her dislike if you didn't participate. She even told us we wouldn't get into grad school, then seemed surprised no one wanted to engage in class.
Joanne is an amazing professor! I found myself being excited for her class, as the course information was provided in an engaging and interesting form. I had her class last semester and decided to take another one of her courses this semester because I enjoyed her lecturing so much. She brings a very fun energy to academics.
Joanne is the most condescending and rude professor I've ever had. Her lectures are decent but attendance for them is definitely mandatory. As for assignments: her instructions do not reflect the grading rubric you're given AFTER at all. When asking questions she's vague and blames students for doing bad even if the whole class is struggling.
I've never had a more condescending, disrespectful, or unorganized professor. Do not take her unless you absolutely have to. You get cheat sheets for midterms yet it is impossible to understand her questions. She gives assignments with no rubrics. Yelled at the entire class for asking for a rubric for the second assignment. DO NOT TAKE!!!!
I have had this professor for multiple classes at this point, and she remains to be the same. She can become quite disrespectful towards the class, simply because the class asks for clarification or help. I have been in two different classes now where she has yelled at the class for 30+ minutes. If she has a bad day, it's getting taken out on you.
Her class isn't difficult but her grading criteria makes it difficult, I attended classes, studied for exams and took notes, despite this exams are hard to decipher (it's the wording). Unclear grading instructions, wants specific answers on assign. but won't describe it in rubric. Yelled at the whole class and was very unprofessional.
The content is fine but her grading is impossible. Seems like she wants kids to read her mind and guess what content to include in her assignments. The wording of her tests questions are so confusing as well. She also will lash out in class if she's mad that the glass got a bad grade. Takes no accountability herself and blames the students.
open book midterm and final but the average was still a low 60. went to class maybe six times? didn't enjoy her lectures but she's sweet and passionate. easy to do well in bc of the weekly quizzes and notes for tests but you still have to read the textbook TRUST
If you want a class that makes you question every life choice, take this one. The lectures were very boring. Despite being advertised as lecture-based, exams weren't. The midterm and final exams were open-book, yet the questions came from obscure textbook sections, not lectures. Exams were brutal and left people in tears.
