Very liberal
Very smart, very hard- you'll learn a lot
awful, tons of papers&work&highest grade is B-, tooliberal- dont take her!!!!!!!
mixed feelings, very understanding of illness, not annoying with class stuff
an impossible grader- expect to rewrite every paper
Write a well written paper=C grade write bad paper=C grade very unfair democrate
too liberal, you don't learn anything. harsh grader. find another teacher
No Comments
far far left thought process. she's helpful when you suck up but her teaching style is not very linear, a little hard to follow. can get away with not reading but adding insightful comments (liberal comments.)
she is all over the place and SUCH A HARD GRADER. had to take her twice and hope to take her never again.
Very smart woman but VERY tough grader...be ready to rewrite all your papers - she will, however, give you a little help if you ask - and be prepared to learn all about being a liberal.
wanna learn...take her....
Very hard teacher, not straightforward in what she wants in your assignments. Confusing but very nice. I LOVE THAT SHE IS LIBERAL. we need more liberal professors. She is into politics so she is supposed to take a stance. DUH!! Go Joann!
Rewrite everything with little in any improvement. Personal prejudice evident in grading.
OMG!! shes all over the place, impossible grader, and you have to teach yourself most of the class...she makes u do projects all semester, doesnt really teach- if you like that, then take her. otherwise, NAAAHHH
Completely unclear in what she wants with assignments, be prepared to rewrite every paper, expect a ton of extra projects, a grade that doesn't reflect the amount of time you had to spend on her class, very liberal thinker who doesn't actually teach
she thinks you should think...so think and you'll do well
very harsh grader on papers, you dont learn a whole lot, the first part of class is discussion on current events and that part isnt so bad but once thats over with..well i think you get the idea
Very hard grader on papers, many projects to do. An interview is one asiagned work, make sure you get someone that knows everything correct, she grades based on their answers even if the person is wrong and doesnt no exact dates!

Very hard to deal with... You must think like her, or your answer is worng.
Bought text that was barely used, horrific lecturer, very unorganized, incredibly tough grader (way too hard on grammar), bought a subscription to the times that I ended up never needing...avoid taking at all costs
not interested in hearing good reasons why she might be wrong, her way or the high way, which would make her a hippocrate. Brutal grading. however very funny and smart. Still, Avoid AT ALL COSTS!
She's such a bad teacher that she'd turn you off poli sci completely.
Awful teacher. No class structure. Won't even put a grade on a paper, then when you rewrite it you're lucky to get anything above a C, when any other teacher would give you at least a B. Avoid at all costs, TERRIBLE.
a lot of writing, but i learned to write...and to make a good argument. its all about being a citizen
Not the worst teacher, but she grades incredibly hard. She tricks you into thinking that you can rewrite everything (only once) and she doesn't even put a grade on the original paper.
Very tough grader on papers. Harder to get higher than a B-. Only test was the final. Hard teacher but her classes are somewhat enjoyable. Big on current events on participation too; not sure if she grades on the participation though.
you will learn a lot of things that will be helpful when you are out in the RW (real world) as she says...
She is a cool lady, it is a fun class, but what it all comes down to is she never gives above a C. So if you feel like having your papers****d by her, sign up for this class.
Ack....the bane of my existance. we dubbed her the "C-stamp" she doesn't read papers; everyone gets a C. maybe a C+ if your willing to kiss her butt and think like a liberal ****.
I had Dr. Myers for several classes. She's extremely challenging, but college is not supposed to be easy. She prepared me for graduate school and taught me how to think. I took several courses with her--mostly b's, but a's are possible. Best prof. ever!
Gives everyone a C +/-. Really unfair grading, even if your papers are interesting, relevant, and grammatically sound. Even if you're liberal, and participate in class alot. Like I did. Class is fun, she'll kill your GPA for no reason though. Don't take her if Marist gave you a scholarship lol.
WILL NEVER GET OVER A C. class is fun but your grades will stink. she never puts a grade on the paper the first time and then you rewrite it and get a C anyway. AVOID if you want to get good grades.
do not take!!! worst experience ever and was painful to go to class and actually sit through it with my eyes open.. horrribleee grader . DONT TAKE
a horrible experience
possible, but not easy, A. you get as much as you put in, don't walk in expecting to slack off, if you do all the work and actually give a****, you'll do fine. participate!!! and it helps if you're extreeeemely liberal.
avoid
Prof Myers is an odd lady but she is a very good teacher. She is a tough grader. If you have trouble writing papers, you will struggle. She is interested in how you interpret news and current events in relation to the real world. If you participate in class, you will do well.
Very tough grader..rips apart your papers, but allows re-writes. Will disagree with you no matter what you say & sometimes she will make fun of you when you answer a question. No textbook, a lot of essays & current events. Usually late to class, and never lets you out early. Not a very nice lady.

This woman is an absolute terror as a teacher...do not take her under any circumstances! She never tells you what is required, rips apart your papers and ideas, disagrees with everything you say and still will not help you learn anything more about government than you could learn yourself. Beyond liberal, if that bugs you too....
In a word: avoid. No matter how well you write, she rarely, rarely hands anything back above a C, even if you actually work in the writing center. She will not repeat things if you misheard her. Very tough and uncompassionate.
I'd rather have syphillis...
DON'T DO IT. RUN, RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!
This class ****ing sucks. Disorganized, doesn't even tell you how you're doing, gives "checks" instead and then throws you a C at the end of the semester. Being a liberal is also recommended, but she'll probably hate you anyway.
Just do not take a class from her....AVOID!!!!!!
Believe it or not, it is possible to get higher than a C in this class. You just have to back up your opinions alot. There's alot of work in this class (6 papers). The grade is based off of these, the midterm, final, HW, + participation. You won't get such a high grade if you don't paticipate in the class.
Intimidating and challenging, two characteristics rarely found at Marist. You get what you put into it. Go see her during office hours and she'll probably confuse you more, but if you keep bothering her, you'll learn something. Don’t take unless you’re up for a serious intellectual challenge.

Not a class. No syllabus. Disorganized. 8 Random papers that have nothing to do with anything. Arbitrary grades. Has NOTHING to do with ideology. By far the most useless class I have taken at Marist. What a disgrace. I get disgusted just talking about it.
Great Teacher! If ur conservative, u won't like her. Why? Because u are affraid of different and shes different. SheS probably too good to be ur teacher anyway. She will never grade or judge u on ur opinion. I'm a libertarian and she didn't agree with anything I espoused but I never once felt like it hurt me in her class. Remember to SUBSTANTIATE!
She seems like a nice lady, she is just not a good teacher. She goes on extremely long rants in class and teaches Am Nat Govt like a civics course. This class is absolutely useless, she teaches absolutely nothing of value. She uses the textbook rare to never and is a terrible grader when it comes to papers. I recommend avoiding her at all costs.
This woman is Un-American. I would even go as far as to call her a Communist. If you don't agree with what she says, you suffer for it. Please, please, avoid this teacher at all costs. Unfair, and unjust.
Shes nice but a very tough grader on papers. noone in my class got an a for any of the papers. you can rewrite them but u will not get an A unless u write something that woudl appear in a magazine. she never checks homework until the end but its a lot so u need to actually do them.if u want an A do not take
Yes, she's smart, yes she's funny. But the grades will be bad and the classes are disorganized none the less. Papers aren't explained until after its handed back wrong; which is very frustrating. take if you want the experience and the 'challenge' and grades don't matter to you. helps to be fem/lib but no one is safe.
To those registering for American Government Classes: Please take Dr. Veronica O'Connor she is a flexible, rigorous yet delightful instructor.
Terrible teacher. Expect 1 or 2 letter grades lower in this class than you normally get no matter what your effort is. I have received A's and B's in all my other classes. I put in the same amount of work into this class and received a C. Don't take any class with her unless you have to. It will ruin your GPA
Worst teacher I have ever had in my life.SO nasty and no matter how hard you try you will never do good.DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
One of the WORST professors at Marist. She is close-minded and dismisses alternate viewpoints on political issues. Dr. Myers is extremely abrasive and is repulsed by any student who leans conservative even by the slightest means. While I have great respect for some of my other liberal instructors, she is radical who indoctrinate students.
THE WORST PROFESSOR EVER....DO NOT TAKE
JoAnne Myers is a hardline, liberal extremist who actively indoctrinates and humiliates students who disagree with her. Please take two wonderful instructors: Louis Zuccarello or Veronica O'Connor.
DON'T TAKE JOANNE MYERS. YOU WILL REGRET IT. Please take a wonderful instructor such as Louis Zuccarello for American National Government!!!
JoAnne Myers ruined my interest in political science with her hateful speeches. Avoid at all costs!! You are better off taking Eckert.
In all honesty the class itself was pretty enjoyable. However, if you're looking to get a good grade, this is not the class to take. Her grading system is very harsh. Even after visiting her office multiple times, I would still get a B- or worse on my papers. Overall, it is a tough but informative class, so take at your own risk.
I think she has a good outlook on life and the world around us. Very informative when it comes to Social Problems I really enjoyed that about her. My only disagreement is her grading process she is too critical and at times the class meetings seemed unorganized. Whatever was on the agenda for that day we never got to it.
If you get a C+ or worst, she will tell you that grades don't matter. She has no problem giving people C's like free green cards though.
This is my second time having JAM... she is okay. Just expect to learn nothing. The papers are difficult, but luckily she gives back feedback and then grades it. There are no tests.
First off, Professor Myers is a wonderful, intelligent woman. She is clearly passionate about Politics and holds strong views on feminism and equality. That being said, I've never taken a worse college course. Assignments are vague, then you get no feedback on a bad grade. You will get a C. No matter what, you will get a C.
RUN!!!! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!! A terrible professor, she should be fired
I took her for an online class and participated in every weekly forum that was required and she gave me a C for participation. When you ask about your grade, she gives no explanation or feedback at all, yet has no problem being rude in her responses. If you ask her a question, she will not be specific but expect you to follow specific guidelines.
One of the worst experiences I have ever had. Do not take unless you have to. She is awful
Class is extremely difficult. You literally have to beg her for help. When you ask for help she we will be rude. When you have a concern she will be rude. Worst professor ever
JoAnne Myers is vitriolic ideologue who detests conservative, libertarian and moderate viewpoints and believes her opinions are sacrosanct rather than debatable. She is a pseudo-intellectual and one of the most academics at Marist College. Louis Zuccarello made a huge blunder by hiring her in 1986. She is overdue for retirement.
By far the worst professor ive had
Worst professor I have ever had, did not learn a single thing about philosophy and all she spoke about were her political views and her feminism. She donates her body to science apparently and each time she cancelled class we had a 5 page paper to write. Wrote 10 papers by the end of this course and it was horrible. Drop immediately!
Terrible professor. No clear grading rubric. Readings are ridiculously long and make no sense. Requires question cards for every reading. I learned nothing.
Dr. JAM is a great professor in terms of facilitating class discussion, knowledge base, and her qualifications. I enjoy her class. A lot of people who have left reviews don't seem to, which is a shame, but as long as you are willing to participate, think about your readings, and back up your points in class, you will earn JAM's respect and do well.
DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH DR. JAM!!! It will make you want to quit political science
The worst experience I have ever had in my entire life. Just dont do it. If youre thinking about taking her, save yourself. She literally made me change my major thats how bad it was. Two kids dropped and also changed their majors. If you like poly sci and want to keep liking it, stay away. MARIST FIRE THIS WOMEN!! We pay too much for a bad prof
I had JAM for Intro to Political Theory and Modern Political Thought. She's a tough teacher. Her classes are all discussion-based. It is important to do the reading she will be able to tell who doesn't do the reading and who does. She only grades based on papers and the class discussions but she does let you rewrite papers. Participate in class!
If you're passionate, hard-working, and aiming to improve your work, class with Dr. JAM can be very rewarding. It's a lot of work, but it's manageable. Very little of it is busy-work. The majority will genuinely benefit you by providing you with notes that will serve you in future classes, both POSC and PHIL. Communicate with her & use office hours
the conversation was never easy to follow, rambled, and could not follow a path in the discussion. Some of the information she provided to the class was blatantly false and is not acceptable to the diversity of opinion.
she seemed good at first, but then it flopped. She expects you to take notes during class even though she is not clear half the time. She expects you to read the textbook but doesn't really discuss the actual chapters to see who read it and who didn't. Not much work in the beginning, but will pour everything on your last month of school.
Don't take this class by her period. I'm doing you a favor. TRUST ME.
Dr. JAM is hands down not only the worst professor I've ever had, but the worst educator I've ever had. The "feedback" she gives is not helpful, at all (unless you meet her one on one). The syllabus was out of date by the third week of class, so don't count on that to keep on track of the readings. She does not grade things in a timely fashion.
Dr. JAM is a great professor to take if you hate tests and dont mind writing papers. This class was super interesting and she let us jus discuss the whole time, but if you dont like participating then don't take her, I think most of her classes are set up like this. She's a really tough grader but allows a resubmission after every paper.
I have had the displeasure of being in Myers' class at least one class every semester. It hurts to be in these classes, with no guidelines and no help whatsoever, I have contemplated leaving Marist to pursue Political Science elsewhere because of this class. Shes passionate, but her reasoning for giving everyone C's is a dumb as it is ridiculous
Listen, I loved her as a person. I think she is really funny and her lectures are super interesting. But, her grading criteria is what makes her so difficult to work with. She sticks to the idea that her class is a "C" average, so she only gives grades around that. Again, I love her and the content of her class, but I wouldn't' take her again.
By far the worst professor I have ever had. I would rather have my toenails pulled out in an Iranian prison than take another class with this "professor". Sadly no one else teaches this class which is a requirement. I'm debating transferring to another school because of her
no. just no.
I don't believe I've ever met a person who genuinely enjoyed this class. A word of advice: if any teacher advertises the poor grades they give as a mark of pride, they are a poor professor. Unfortunately, the Political Science department makes her the only professor for Intro to Political Theory, so you'll have to take it. Good luck.
JoAnne is a really sweet lady but she is unorganized and unclear with due dates/assignments. The syllabus is never followed, and readings were never discussed so it's easy to be confused. The class is lecture-based and very loose, which does not work for me. There were no exams, just papers, and one group paper + presentation.
Horrible
She is a very sweet woman who cares about her students, however she is not a good professor. Most of her classes are her rambling about her own political views or watching videos. She does not stick to the syllabus and doesn't post about assignments. She has a rule about not giving any A's for midterm grades so students only receive B's or lower.
Dr.JAM is very kind and funny, but has a different teaching style that some do not like. She gives you a week to rewrite every paper before she grades it and leaves feedback on all of them on what to fix. There is a textbook and she expects that you read it to support her lectures. She isn't always clear on how her lectures relate to the syllabus.
She is the worst teacher I have ever had! She likes to humiliate people publically ( in front of the whole class) and does it often. She does not use BrightSpace, so you will never know what grade you have in the class. She does NOT give out A's no matter what. She hands back work with corrections in handwriting that is not legible.
MARIST NEEDS TO FIRE HER!! Worst teacher I have ever had. She does not know how to use technology so you will never know what grade you have. She likes to make fun of students in front of the class. She screwed everyone over on the final by telling the class the wrong things to study. Trust me and never take her class!!!
Worst professor Ive had at Marist, avoid her at all costs. Id honestly change my major because of her. Pushed a heavily liberal agenda and was condescending toward students during conversation. Having this professor really makes me wonder if Marist even cares about their quality of professors. Class was scheduled to boost GPA but she only gives Cs.
insanely lecture heavy and she rambles about nonsense. grading criteria is very unclear and she refuses to give out A's. dont take unless u want ur gpa to drop for no reason
Dr Jam's lecture style is incredibly hard to follow, she goes on long unrelated tangents and only writes extremely vague terms on the board every now and then. She is an extremely picky grader and will provide unhelpful illegible comments (I would often receive snarky comments instead of constructive feedback often). Take intro to theory online!!!!
Course is heavy on in class discourse and opinions of those involved- very class guided
Is not a clear grader probably just for the purpose of being able to grade based on her personal bias (which she is known for doing). We are all just waiting for her tenure to expire. Could keep going, but just ask others and you will hear the same thing. Also, learned absolutely nothing.
Never explained her grading. Almost all work done on paper. Never gave good feedback. You don't really have to do any hw but assigns lots of reading. Only graded by very few things. She is a very nice woman, but her teaching style doesn't work for me.
HORRIBLE professor, is very biased and obviously very liberal. very intimidated by her and DON'T recommend her at all. she cancels everything people say and is very biased. As a freshman taking this class and politically being republican, I feel like I am being brainwashed hearing the stuff she says. Also stuff im never gonna use in my life.
If I could give a worse review I would. Has no due dates for any assignments on her syllabus and most of the time no one would know anything was even due. Every day was a long reading homework assignment which is fine but half the time she goes off on a tangent to nowhere and expects you to write a journal entry about what we learned???
[Text removed by user request.]
DO NOT TAKE HER FOR PHIL101!!! She is so unorganized and has no agenda for class. She makes up assignments in her head but doesn't communicate them to the class. She seems like a sweet woman but the stress she put me through my first semester freshman year was ridiculous especially for a required 100 class
Do NOT take phil101 with her. I don't understand how she's even a professor she doesn't teach anything and rambles about politics for the entire class. Doesn't post anything, no grading criteria, doesn't announce when there's assignment, changes her mind about work and how it should be done without telling students. Worst class I've taken
Professor Myers' class was lecture-heavy, with unclear grading criteria. While she's nice, her teaching style didn't work for me. unstuck study helped with study prep when the workload felt overwhelming.
Myers's entire class is just her bashing conservatives. She's a harsh grader, but she lets everyone rewrite papers according to her feedback, even though it's no guarantee of a higher grade. I had a nice back-and-forth with her, but if you don't like participating or defending yourself then steer well clear of her.
There is a reason why all her classes are always open. She grades so that the class average is a C, just because “that's what the average should be”. She repeatedly mentioned false and disproven information in class. Class was just her rambling about her politics, and very loosely tied it to the syllabus. Made me want to drop out of college.
This class resulted in the lowest grade I have gotten in my college career and I switched to STEM after taking it. JAM's grading policies are ruthless and overly critical, I recall her giving a speech on how she will not give As on assignments because "you can always do better." I regret taking this class and letting it drop my GPA.
PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HER, SHE IS THE WORST PROFESSOR OF ALL TIME. NOT JUST AT MARIST, BUT IN THE WHOLE WORLD. Please save your GPA and take someone else. Thanks
