Great addition to CofC this semester. Very intelligent and decent lectures. She tries to relate to our generation and I give her an A for effort. She has a hard quiz and 2 weeks later, a two day test. The tests and quizs are hard but not if you read the reality bytes and do all the homework. She also does homework problems in class which helps alot
She is great. I was scared of this class at first but I now have an A. An excellent addition to CofC - she is the best professor I have ever had. If you think you will have a difficult time with this course then Dr. Evans is the way to go. She is very helpful and actually wants us to learn. She really knows her stuff and her stories are funny.

Very nice. A lot of energy. gives hard tests but she is always available to give extra help. Goes over homework in class. Quizzes will take entire class and tests are given over a two days. Tests are more difficult than homework.
Horrible! Worst prof. I have ever had in my 4 years. Would not cooperate with me one bit in withdrawing. Extreamly unprofessional!!!
Mama Evans is one of the best teachers I've ever had because she tries so hard. She is extremely hard driving and her exams are funny they're so hard. But, she grades easy and I think based on effort. She tries as hard as you're willing to try. She'll stay late, you can call her at home, etc.
Don't expect to learn material by going to class. Her lecture is simply an overview of the text. Very helpful in office hours. Exams are over 2 days and essay format. Depending on what you study, they are extremely easy or hard. Does not have class very much near end of the term which is frustrating, inconveinent and unprofessional
She's so smart, and loves what she does, but I find her to be very unclear. She expects us to know this stuff and offers very little direction. She's great for 303, but stay away from her high level classes.
The class is unorganized and it doesn't follow the syllabus. Lots of material thrown at you with little explanation. LOTS OF WORK!
This class is really hard, but she helps you so much. I think I learned more in this class than in all of my other finc classes combined. I am glad I took it before graduating.
The class is not easy and requires lots of studying, but she is always available to help, even giving students her cell phone number to call her at home. Take good notes in class b/c there are some extra credit opp's and specifics that may be on the test but not in the book. She'll go over tests with you in her office right after you take them.
took business finance with her and had to drop it after couple weeks....her exams are impossible and she has a speech impediment make it very difficult to pay attention
Dr. Evans is an amazing teacher. Her tests are extremely difficult because she makes you actually think (i.e. no multiple choice). She is available to help whenever you need her to be, and she has study sessions early in the mornings for extra credit (you'll need it because the test take two days). You will learn more in this class than any other.
You will hate the class while taking it but will actually learn so much you will take her as much as you can. Not easy but best class I've had at CofC.
One of the only classes I actually felt that I learned something at CofC. Very demanding professor with lots of work (50+ pg paper) but as long as you do it she's an easy grader.
Don't plan on having a job or a life if you decide to take this class, but you will learn more in this one class than all the bussiness classes you have ever taken combined
Dr. Evans is a great professor! She is one of the few professors who actually care about their students both in the classroom and out. She helped me the entire semester with finding a job and I ended up getting a job because of her. The class is not easy but if you work hard she will take notice and help you out; both in and out of the classroom.
It is absolutely impossible to succeed in this class. That is unless you plan on waking up every morning to be at her 6 am study sessions, but that 6 am only counts if you bring HER breakfast. If you are taking any other courses besides this one, don't take her for this course. Big mistake.
Tough! Has impossible tests and quizzes. She really wants her students to understand finance. If you are a major I recommend her, but otherwise its a lot of work! 15-20 pg paper w/ a vague topic. BEWARE! She gives extra credit for coming to her study sessions at 6am. It sucks, but is fair since that is the only time no one has other plans.
Ms. Evans is smart, funny, caring and you learn a ton in her class. If you are a FINC major, and you need to take 410 at CofC, you need to take 303 with her in order to survive 410. Her class is exceptionally difficult and time consuming though, so if you are not, I can't recommend that you take this class with Ms. Evans.
Ridiculous. Took every extra credit opportunity she offered, and she still wouldn't give me a C. Everyone I have talked to says to take Pyles instead. AVOID TAKING THIS CLASS, the tests problems are more difficult than book problems, so you have to go to her 6am study sessions to get examples of what you might see on a test.
This is a hard class. Period. But she makes it bearable. You're going to have to do the work to succeed in this class. The 6am study sessions definitely help, and if you bring food, you get 10 points vs. 5 if you don't. You can have a life outside this class, but you can't breeze through just by studying the night before tests/quizzes.
Not only is professor Evans a great teacher, but she will do anything for her students (if you work hard). As an alum of CofC, I can honestly say that Dr. Evans 410 class, while challenging, is one of the most useful classes I have taken. Dr. Evans and this class are one of the many reasons why I have a job in Finance. Take her!!
Tough class, and the workload seems impossible, but what you learn will help you more than you know once you enter the real world.
Dr. Evans is one of the most helpful professors at the College. She is always available and willing to answer questions by email, or office hours. FINC 410 is difficult and time consuming, but it gives a realistic view of the requirements for anyone interested in a Big 4 or IB career. She is not easy, but she is a great professor.
Dr. Evans is one of the most intelligent professors that I know. Her class was really hard, but she was extremely helpful . The 6-am study section was useful for the exams (which were arduous BTW); and you'd get 10 pts if you brought her breakfast which you or your peers could eat later. After having her, you'd be able to tolerate any employer :-).
Best. Professor. Ever.
She is HARD and I mean REALLY HARD!! That being said you will not find a professor that tries harder to help you, starting at 6am 4 days a week. Don't take her if you already have a heavy load but if you want a job coming out of college then you can not find a better class to be in. Genuinely can not say enough great things about her! Love!!
Dr. Evans truly cares about her students and is always willing to help struggling students understand the material. While there may be a lot of work, this class has added a tremendous value to my career. If you want to go places take this class!
She believed in me when I didn't believe in myself. Taking Dr. Evans class has truly been a life changing experience and continues to be. Her willingness to help students and be a mentor is truly without parallel. I had her for a 2 month finance class but our conversations since then have inspired and lifted my spirit. Highly highly recommend her.
Jocelyn is a phenomenal professor. She is the reason the college has a Finance major at all. She will work with you academically but with your career goals as well. FIN410 is not easy, but if you plan on going into Finance it is relevant necessary material. She has great connections in great firms and great graduate programs. Her #1 priority is you
A tough class! Before this class, I hadn't taken any finance courses where I felt strained to do well. I took a Microfinance course with her beforehand, so I was not surprised by the workload. If you plan to go into Finance, this is the course you NEED to take. The 150-page final paper really changed my perspective on valuation.
I took Jocelyn Evans class in 2013 and absolutely loved it. She is an amazing teacher. I am a financial advisor in Charleston, and I WOULD NEVER have passed the series 7 or 66 if I had not taken finance 410. Her class prepares you for the real world, if you plan on working in finance. The work load she requires trained me to perform in the real world. Had I never take her class, I would never have made is as a financial advisor, so I thank you Dr. Evans!
Dr. Evans' class is a lot of hard work. However, she helped me with interviews for graduate school and for internships. Dr. Evans is definitely a person you want to get to know. I would recommend taking her class.
Dr. Evans is perhaps the greatest resource CofC has to offer to business, finance, accounting, and economics students. She really cares about you and your future! Few points for prospective students: 1) Be prepared to work hard. 2) Prepare for the class PRIOR to taking it by reading the chapters, doing the homeworks, and writing the IFRS paper.
Dr Evans is a great finance professor. With that being said, you won't get a good grade unless you work hard. Do all the homework, go to a couple 6 am study sessions a week or two before the exam, and read the required material. Follow those steps and you will get at least a B. Always there to help.
Stay awayTeaches concepts in class and uses her 6am study sessions as extra class time to teach problems. The concepts are not difficult, but the tests are horrific. Theyre poorly written, create needlessly complicated questions from simple concepts requiring pages to answer. There is a difference between challenging and pointlessly difficult
Tests designed to be difficult for the sake of being difficult. Doesn't matter if you do all the book problems or not, because those are fairly straight forward. She will twist any of those problems into an unrecognizable mess just to see if you can do it. If you have a firm grasp of finance already, go ahead. Otherwise, skip this professor!
Go out of your way to get to know Dr. Evans. She will give you the tools and advice you need to get a job and be successful. Do not avoid or postpone her classes because they are hard or challenging. 6am study sessions are rough but they truly prepare you for post grad. Start early and follow up with her. She will be your best resource.
I am now a senior at the CofC. Dr. Evans is the BEST professor I had so far. She wants her students to learn and be the best at what they do. Her class is hard and requires a lot of work. She is the most helpful professor during office hours. She gives her students the best advices when it comes to building a long-term successful career.
Dr. Evans truly wants her students to succeed and will bend over backwards to make that happen. She's very accessible outside class and offers 6am study sessions on test week. These sessions are because her tests are very difficult, even for finance majors (who really should take her) but you will learn more from her than anyone else for 303.
Dr. Evans is probably the worst teacher I have ever had in college. I read a lot of reviews that said she was great and would teach you the most, but that's only true if you already understand finance and are willing to spend the majority of your time doing homework and reading. Unless you love finance, do NOT take her class. Seriously. Just dont.
You will need to work hard in this class, but Dr. Evans will get you to learn the material. If she sees that you are doing the work, she will acknowledge it and help you when you need it. She is always available. Also, she will hook you up with job opportunities, grad school opportunities, and letters of recommendation. TAKE HER NOW!
Dr. Evans is one of the nicest people that I have ever met and will truly go out of her way to help you succeed. Homework is a bit excessive and lectures can often leave you confused, but if you're willing to work hard Dr. Evans will help you. Tests are tough to study for if you do not attend the early morning study sessions.
Her courses are very intense, and you will be challenged, but she is one of the best prof at CofC. I took her for Maymester - my study group of 5 showed up for the 6 am study sessions (super helpful) and stayed in the library until 9-10 at night completing our homework. This wasn't an easy class, so if you're looking to be handed a grade, skip her
I really enjoyed taking Dr. Evans. She really shows that she cares about her students. Her classes are hard work, but she makes sure you understand the material.
I think it's the right thing to do to warn ppl this woman tests you on things she never even once mentions in class, despite them being in the text book; for example, you'll be asked an essay topic to delineate a specific legislation she won't discuss during any class or study session. Not really a teacher cuz she doesn't want to be. Good luck!
Dr. Evans is there for her students and makes sure that they understand the material. Textbook reading is mandatory and attendance is key to making sure you do well in the class. I would take her again for any class!!
I really enjoyed Dr. Evans class. Her course is very intense, however she really cares about her students. She will bend over backwards for her students. I learned so much from her class and became very knowledgeable about the financial system.
Dr. Evans is a fantastic and very energetic professor. The class is difficult and requires effort, but you will learn alot! I will use everything I learned in her class at my internship with the FDIC in D.C this summer. This class is a must if you want to work in the banking industry!
I took Dr. Evans for Summer Session II. Her lectures are great, but be ready to read. You won't know what's going on if you don't do the readings. Gives plenty of extra credit opportunities and offers an early morning study session before the test for another extra credit opportunity. I highly recommend taking her!
This class is difficult, but she teaches the material to a very high standard and is very good at explaining it. There is a lot of material covered in this class, a lot of work to do, and the tests are difficult; however, you do learn a lot. As long as you go to class and put some effort into learning the material, you should do fine.
Even though this class will make you work(a lot), if you try and put in the effort it is easy to get a good grade. I recommend talking this class before 400 to get a good underlying basis of what is going on before you dive further into the market. DO NOT take both classes together. While taking 313 make sure to ask questions and study in advance.
Dr. Evans is the most caring professor I've ever had. Show her you're willing to put in the effort and she will be your biggest asset. She is an incredible teacher and person.
A lovely lady but assigns more work than I've ever had in a normal semester. I'm sure she's not stupid but most of the time doesn't know what she's talking about. 70 pages of essays throughout the semester along with homework and tests. This class has legitimately made me question whether I want a college degree and why I pay so much for CofC.
One of the nicest professors I've ever had, but this is by far the hardest and most time consuming class. Well over 100 (closer to 150) pages worth of assignments. 6:00 AM classes are practically mandatory to pass tests. Offers a lot of extra credit opportunities. Only take if you're certain that you want to work in bank compliance as your career.
She is very helpful and resourceful. She wants the best for you and will help you succeed. Be interactive with her and bring FRUIT! she gives extra credit so use it and do all of her work. She gives heavy work load but at the end its worth it. Stay focus you got it.
Dr. Evans is a great person, however, she makes it seem like her class is the only one we have.
Dr. Evans is one of the best professors I've ever had throughout student career. Despite the class being moved to online, she adapted and made herself available to her students at every hour. I met with her to schedule Zooms to go over homework before class and it made all the difference. If you put in the effort, you'll do better than you expect.
Dr Evans is an amazing professor. She is always willing to zoom with you to help you out with any questions you may have. She does lecture a lot, but it is all super valuable and allows you to truly understand the content better. I would absolutely take Dr Evans again if I got the chance!
Dr. Evans was a good teacher this semester that taught the class a lot of useful information that I can use later on in life (Ex. Investments, credit card, emergency fund, etc...).
If you participate throughout this course, it will pay off in the end, and the professor will appreciate and remember that. So make sure to answer questions, meet outside of class, or call her. The lessons/assignments can be sort of confusing and unclear at times, so make sure to get help if you're lost on anything, and you should be good to go.
Participating in lectures will definitely benefit you when it comes to doing assignments. Some of the assignments can be a bit confusing but Dr. Evans is always willing to zoom you if you need help which is super beneficial. Overall, she is a good professor.
Dr. Evans is a very flexible teacher, but holds you at high standards to complete your work. The classes are mostly lecture based but she frequently calls on you throughout class to make sure you are paying attention. The workload is majority writing assignments such as papers or discussion questions. Overall, she is a great professor who cares!
Professor Evans is a good teacher. She knows what she is talking about and wants her students to learn. Every class was mostly lectures and be prepared to be called upon to answer her during them. Assignments and due dates were confusing at times as they were mostly not on oaks for an all online course. But overall, very informative class.
Professor Evans' Financial Literacy course is a must take because she teaches so many valuable life lessons to succeed in school and life. While some of the papers and projects might seem long they are not that difficult and are helpful in the course final project.
Great professor, who is always willing to meet up after class and help you out to ensure you get the grades that you deserve. Provides lectures that encourage class participation and student interaction with the content. 10/10 would take again.
She is a great teacher and always agrees to zoom me when I need the extra help. There were a lot of assignments we had to keep up with, so the zoom was very helpful and it was fun to talk to her!
Dr. Evans is a great professor! She is always available to meet with you through zoom if you have a question relating to the course and gives great feedback/help! She really helps you prepare for your future & inclines you to get things done ahead of time so you will be less stressed throughout your college experience. Do the discussion posts!!!!
gives no instruction. save yourself and take another professor. 3 credit course yet acts like its your only class.
This professor will pile on assignments without ever putting them in the syllabus. She gave us a syllabus at the beginning of the semester and so far only 2 assignments weve done have been on their. The rest are random things she comes up with along the way.
Easy, but lots of work. This class will benefit you in the long run as you set up a personal financial model setting up your finances, learning credit cards, loans, and ect. Be aware that there are assignments to do and it may not be clearly said or shown in the syllabus. Reaching out to the teacher is super helpful! She'll tell you what to do.
she gives out a lot of papers and assignments and most of them werent even on the outline. from the things on the outline, we were only given a title of the assignment. if you wanted an explanation of an assignment, she would explain but she made so much more completed than it actually needed to be. good teacher but she needs to explain things.
She gave extensive loads of work. Even though she was very sweet and wanted people to succeed and looked out for their futures, she assigned way to much homework for a first year experience class.
This class is very work-heavy but Professor Evans is accessible.
I had Professor Evans for my FYE at Cofc. She is very knowledgable about finance and is definitely passionate about this class. This is a lot of work in this course and you definitely should be interested in business. She calls on you a lot in class so you have to pay attention.
Dr. Evans is very passionate and knowledgeable about the subject she teaches. It is evident that she really cares about her students. She is always willing to meet with you and explain anything you are having trouble. She is extremely available and responds right away to emails. However, this class has an extensive and heavy workload.
Professor Evans is really caring and really wants you to learn and do well in the class. Shes always available for questions but the class is very difficult.
I enjoyed Dr. Evans' class. Although her class was a bit confusing at times, she is always available to meet outside of class. You definitely need to participate in this class though because she will call on everyone.
I appreciated Dr. Evans care for her students learning she was always available outside of class to meet and answer questions. The only thing I wish was better was her organization with assignments. Some assignment were created very last minute and were not fully explained. She is a good professor but be prepared to put in the work if you take her!
Make sure to attend class and to keep up with assignments.
Dr. Evans really cares for her students! if I needed anything I knew that she would be a helpful source!! she is passionate about her work and is very interactive during class which helped me learn! her material is easy to understand and very interesting. If you need a FYE, take this one!!!
Professor Evans definitely knows what she's talking about! She is very involved in making sure her students are set up for what we will encounter in the future. Although this is not an easy FYE class by any means, if you want to learn something you'll use in real life, take this class! But beware you will have to work hard.
Please save yourself lots of wasted tears. This class was miserable. She gives tons of unplanned assignments, that she comes up with in the middle of class. She is arrogant and will spend most of the time bragging about her son who went to Stanford. Nothing I did in this class applied to my career in any way.
She is very passionate about helping students understand. There is a lot of work, but there is more than enough time to do it and the expectations are laid out clearly with examples. She grades easy, if you do it right you should get a 100 on everything. Widely available outside of class to help you as well.
Took her class last year but wanted to leave a review to put some respect on the name. Literally the best professor I've had at Charleston she's funny easy going and fair, she influenced what major I declared she's that good at her job. Just do your work and go to class and you'll leave with a good grade and an actual understanding of the material.
She had a study season before class on the day before the test and see me so we need to material
