I took her this winter 2005 and she was a pretty decent teacher. She was really helpful and stayed after class if you asked her to. It seems that her soul intention for the class was for us to improve, and she encouraged us not to worry about the grade as much.

Jocelyn gives students the opportunity to stay open-minded. She's very flexible about essay writing topics and she gives students a lot of room for growth. I really enjoyed her class and I learned a lot.

She is an good teacher. At first she might seem frightening but don't leave...it gets easier. She is a very fair grader, you will get better grade than you would give yourself. There is a 5-7 page research paper at the end(she helps a lot in this too). She is young therefore a little easygoing.

Her class is hard, you have to work for your grade, it’s not easy, but any one who wants to improve as a writer you should take her, because she is full of great ideas on how you should write. Not many teachers like her at GCC.

you need to work in her class, don't turn in an essay if you haven't read it like 10 times. she is big on animals and trees, so she will give you extra credit for campus speeches and stuff like that. its an easy A if you do the min work

REALLY REALLY NICE AND AN AWESOME TEACHER!! She scares you a little bit in the beginning, but if you do your best you will be fine. Very clear on what she talks about. Easy grader. Very helpful. Lowest you'll get is a B in her class but try your best and do all the assignments and you'll get an A.

She was understanding and flexible. She encourages class participation/discussions, which only made the class more exciting & resourceful. I don't know if taking her through PACE had any influence on her grading and teaching...I think that the fact that she is young also made her lectures fun. We watched a lot of movies. Pretty easy/fun class.

She's super nice..loves to have class discussions, and to get the input of each indiviudal. She's flexible with extending due dates, and she's just a wonderful person. TAKE this class, and you'll realize how much more opiniated you can be on every subject!

I would recommend taking her class, but you should go to all meetings and do all of the assignments if you wonna get an A. But they are not that hard. I would say my English 101 class was much harder than this one. Overall I loved her class. Just keep up with the readings, participate in the class discussions and you'll be fine.

I actually have her at LACC but I had to write something about her. SHES GREAT! she changed my whole outlook on enlish.I hated it and now because of her i love it! As long as you do the work and really try you'll do great. You'll regret not taking her.She's also funny and cares a lot about her students =)

She's the best english professor in GCC. It's not an easy A so you need to work to get the A. Do all the work and do your best. She's really helpful and fun. She is the hardest teacher ever, wink wink!!! She is a very good teacher. She cares for the planet and animals. She is funny but down to earth and wants her students to get things done. Attendance and tardies do count even though she does not get your attention if you're late or absent. Overall she is very nice and helpful.

At first, it's scary esp due to the opinionated people in the class that seem to be the ones interacting with her. So, please have an opinion. Soon you'll be surprised you have a steady supply. Whatever it is, it will be respected. You may agree or disagree with anyone in the class and that's OK. After this class, I was many times a better writer.

Professor Heaney is such a kind hearted person with a very young spirit! She values class participation, interesting discussion, analysis, critical thinking, and originality! It is very interesting to share different views of understanding literature in her class! Participation and thinking outside-the-box is key! She is a wonderful professor.

Jocelyn has a really unforgettable personality and makes class all the less excruciating. As for the essays involved, grade according to effort seen so she's very fair. Two key rules to doing well in her class is to PARTICIPATE and do not use TXTING LANGUAGE in your essay! She is one of MUST professors to take before leaving because she is amazing!

Awsome! I really enjoyed this 5-week-class. It was difficult honestly because it's eng 102! But she is really helpful. There are lots of HW's. You need to spend time for that, but if you put all your effort you would be fine. She's really smart and sweetie!!

Took it over the summer, she was great. Work load was a little high because of the nature of the class but she didn't care about the quality of your 'journal entries' -- super sexy in a very literary way, super funny, just disinterested enough in the world to let you know she's down with you not giving a**** about anything much. Jocelyn Heaney is great professor. I do think that some people say its hard because they dont put the effort in. She's very down to the point and doesnt mind helping if you ask. Shes hilarious and generally a great person. Learned a lot and Even gained some interest in reading.

If u r done with high school, than this class is 4 you. Yes, she will ask you to leave if you've failed to do the reading. However, she is in her right to do that, since those who do follow directions have a great discussion about the material assigned. Great teacher! supper funny, very helpful. Very fair 2 all. I can honestly say that Professor Heaney is one of THE best English professors at GCC. Prior to taking her class, my high school AP teachers ruined the subject for me. But she made me love it again and I feel like I've gained so much experience as a writer from her 102 class. She is wonderful, a fair grader, and values everyone's opinion. Take her!

She is by far one of the best GCC professors. She is witty, engaging, and teaches you to think. She cares about her students and enjoys teaching-it shows. The prof is very passionate about the subject &is intent on engaging her students. You must participate& pay close attention to what she says in order to understand what she wants in your essays. She is lax about attendance& her attitude is pretty laid back, almost careless at times. As long as you put in the labor& engage yourself you will pass.

She was great for a summer session. She clarified nearly everything and helped out on most of the stuff I didn't get. The course and number is not easy if you don't show up to class or pay attention to her notes and lectures. Most of the literary analysis needed lots of critical thinking and she allowed a final that was hard but fairly graded for C

Prof. Heaney is great! I took AP English Lit last year, which made me dislike the subject, but she led me to actually enjoy it again. She does grade as if you are at a university and can be picky, but this class does transfer to universities. The reading was not too much, and class is discussion oriented. A if you can really put in the work!

Great teacher!She is patient with all her students, and sometimes brutal. Have some common sense and you will survive. She is not mean or anything, but please don't ask stupid questions or make stupid remarks. She will help you in anything you might need help. Most importantly do all the assignments no matter what! Ok so I took 101 with jocelyn in the summer. She is very nice and her class is very interesting. She gives good material to write on. If you expect to do nothing and get an A then this class is not for you. Jocelyn is sweey and always helpful. I'm a good writer now because of her and I also busted my ass to get an A but it was worth it. Thanks

She is a tough grader, expects students to come prepared and will give pop up quizzes if no one is answering her questions. However, she ha taught me so much which extends way beyond the course description. I took this class two years ago and still think about her

Heaney is a very tough grader. This was an English class, yet all she ever wanted us to write about was architecture which really didn't make sense. She does give a lot of assignments(essay) so don't think this is an easy A. She expects your essays to be very detailed and clear-cut. Wouldn't really take her class again.

I got a B+ on this class and I'm a pretty good writer. The only difference from an A paper from a B paper is writing that's beyond your standard. She expects you to do homework and being in class on time. She as no mercy when it comes to people not reading the textbook. If you're thinking this is an easy A, you came to the wrong place.

Essentially a survey class. Take her if you already KNOW how to write a good essay, because she literally wont teach you anything. 5 book based question essays, 1 research paper, and a self-performance in class final. No quizzes. Some EC. Stories are pretty interesting, but dont expect to be inspired by her, she has a very lethargic character.

She is an amazing professor. If you just attend class and do all your work and get good grades on your essays you'll pass the class. And she gives you a chance to redo one essay that you got a bad grade on.
