Super easy teacher!
great professor and a very nice lady. she understands if there is a problem with ur work and is willing to listen to any explanation. one of the easier music history professors

she is so boring!!! her tests are hard. you'll have to go to 3 concerts and write a 2 page paper on them. i would avoid her class at all cost! i absolutely hated her!
Take this course online and it is a breeze. There will be one concert report due but that seems to be the most difficult aspect. Grades come from online quizzes, which you can retry, and from assignments that come straight out of the book. Easy A.
Take it online, you can do things pretty much at your own pace. Just read the fine print on her syllabus, or you and half the class will miss the quizzes and get points off (she didnt even notice)
I took this class online and was expecting it to be a lot harder than it really is. She is a very nice lady and is very active in communicating with her students. The work is not hard at all, as long as you do it, you will get an A.
Take this class on Line! She is very clear on what she wants.Take quizzes on line that you can keep taking until you make 100!You choose which 5 from each section to send her.She gives you a set of questions to answer for each unit and on some you choose the questions.Concert report is the hardest!

She doesn't like you to ask questions...she likes to do all the talking. If you try to talk to her she thinks you are kissing up to her.If you are looking for an A don't take her...I am serious!
She is a very good teacher and very enthusatic in her teaching. Shes very helpful and her grading is decent and fair. if you can defintely take her for Music History shes very good.

This class is very boring! If you have an interest in Bach and Beethoven take this class. Nelson doesn't try to make it interesting. The reviews are boring. You have to go to a recital that is classical.
The tests are very easy if you go over the listening guides. Make sure you look over the quizzes, because alot of the questions on the tests are from the quizzes. She doesn't curve the tests even though the test averages are most of the time at most a 60. If you do the work, you should get at least a B.
She seems to know what she is talking about, but she it very bad at teaching it. Her classes are very boring and the tests are designed for a music major. Take history of jazz instead...
This is an absolutely horrible professor. She is not clear, her tests are made for music majors, she teaches nothing that is relevant to Appreciating music or anything of that nature. She should be teaching classes for music majors that wished to be bored to DEATH! Avoid this professor.

DON'T DO IT!!! She is very boring. You'll hate it. If you do go you'll fall asleep. Quizzes are open note but its such a boring class you don't want to even go to get the notes. At least she gives you the power points on Bb so you don't have to fill in all of the notes.
Nice lady, but she grades entirely through online work and I do not think she can work a toaster without help. Frequent errors with online assessments combined with the teacher not being helpful make this a frustrating class. Also so cuts a 50 min class to 20 min most days. Waste of money
STAY AWAY!! The class is fairly easy but she makes it so boring that you don't pay attention and miss stuff. You have a quiz a week that are online which isn't too bad but some of the questions are pretty hard. This class was designed for non-music majors but I don't think she got that memo.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! The class its self is easy, but she will make you miserable! She takes attendance everyday and is extremely anal. The class is an elective, but she doesn't get that. She will make you physically sick on a daily basis!
This professor is horrible, do not take her! she is extremely inflexible, takes attendance everyday, is so miserable teaching a lecture, that she hates all non music majors. She can kill your gpa with one simple assignment that if she doesn't like will count for a 0. This lady does not understand that we are all trying to be something in life...
HORRIBLE!!! she is a horrible teacher with no feelings. her lectures are boring and she hates all non-music majors!!! she doesn't understand people and their needs and is completely insane; very non-flexible with anything and will fail you!! She is such a nice lady, the quizzes and exams are online, and she always tries to have fun with the 200+ people in class. Class is terribly boring, but all classes can't be fun. I would tell anyone to take this class! Such an easy A.
She is a very nice woman, her classes are beyond boring but you are allowed computers and she makes PowerPoints available. Take notes and it's an easy A/B. Quizzes and exams online and textbooks are used for both. Definitely recommend
Class is extremely BORING! I fall asleep all the time when I go in there. Class is an EASY A though. I made a C because I forgot to do a Discussion Board. Taking notes is a must and reading the textbook. That is where the test and quizzes come from. But she is such a sweet lady.

A very nice middle aged lady. Who has tells witty jokes no one laughs at. but she knows quite a bit about music. the class is extremely boring, and very easy to fall asleep. the work is mostly only, including the exams.

Dr.Nelson is so nice, you can really tell she loves what she does. She is very organized and is willing to help if you approach her with any questions at all. She provides a non judgmental environment which opens people up to class discussions more. love this teacher!!
Two words, SLEEP TIME! I feel like i was in the movie night at the roxbury, with everyone's head bobbing up and down. Teacher is okay, just average, but listening to world music, doesn't exactly bring me to the dance floor.Just take notes from the slides read the required readings and you should pass with an A.
Dr. Nelson really loves what she does which makes the class a little more bearable. The class however is very boring and has little content of interest. The tests and quizzes are all online so you can use your notes, so it is an easy A as long as you go to class.

Nelson is a very nice person and a good teacher. Her class is a little dull, but I do have her as a 9 am. So that's probably why. It's an easy A if you do the work & pay attention in class. Do take notes! She does assign seats & take attendance, but it's not that bad. I've grown to really like her class. It's not as bad as others make it sound.

Yes, the lectures are boring, but the class is an easy A. All you have to do is show up and take notes. There are 3-4 tests and 12 quizzes that are online. There is also a concert questionaire, 2 discussion posts, and a concert report (2 pgs), but she is an easy grader. Adds 3 extra points to your grade if you do an extra disccusion post.

Took her for enjoyment of music. The class is boring but very easy. But she is absolutely terrible as a teacher. She desperately needs to take a public speaking course or see a speech therapist. And her unique way of droning on and on about nothing is impressive even to a history major.

I don't see how you should have to go to something outside of class as a part of your grade. And if your forget to go then you can't turn in the paper and then your grade will suffer greatly....trust me. Such BS.

Easy class, you listen to some pretty cool music. Class is mandatory and she has TAs who take attendance. Don't bother buying the book, tests are online and you can easily google the answers or use PPT notes. She's a sweet lady, just take her easy 10 question tests and you'll be fine.

Well, I almost fall asleep in the class everyday. The quizzes are pretty easy and they're all online, along with the tests. You have to go to two concerts and write papers on them. She grades pretty tough. Her TA's are terrible. They sit at the front of the class and grade you on everything from cell phone use to BODY POSITION like middle school.
Easy A if you do ALL the work and go to class. The class itself is really boring and it drags on forever. She has very few extra credit opportunities so do them because you WILL miss class and you WILL forget an assignment. She thinks her class is more important than anything so she expects you to feel the same way. No studying required.

This is probably the most boring class you'll take. Lectures are only once a week and 50 minutes but they feel like an eternity. She says the textbook is mandatory but only because she wrote it ($$$). You basically teach yourself. Just have another tab open and shazam ready and you'll be fine on the quizzestest. Only took it cause i had to. Easy A
half of this class is online with online quizzes and journals. The lectures have nothing to do with the online portion of class but as long as you have the book the actual work part is easy. BEWARE you must attend 2 concerts for credit for the class I forgot to go to one of them and got a 0, went to the 2nd one still got a A-.
This class is a lot of work, but fairly easy if you read. It's also an easy A if you do your work. She offers extra credit through discussion boards. Going to 2 concerts is required. There are weekly journals and quizzes, but only a couple tests. ATTENDANCE IS A MUST! 7 points off every day you miss. Only one 50 minute lectureweek though.
The EASIEST class you could possibly take at ECU. We met one day a week and everything was online, including the quizes, tests, AND FINAL! Her lectures are super boring and she cares way too much about music, but it was 50 minutes per week. I highly recommend this easy class. AND DO NOT BUY THE TEXT BOOK!!! It's not necessary
This has to be the easiest class you can take at ECU. The only things that require any effort are attendance and attending the concerts for the reports you have to write. All the quizzes, journals, exams, and even the final are online so you can basically use the book for those. Easy A.
If you are looking for an easy A, take Jocelyn Nelson. Show up to class and do every online assignment, which is guaranteed to get you an A if you get the textbook.
Dr. Nelson is a super sweet lady. She is also a boring professor. That being said, don't NOT take the class. It's an easy A if you take lecture notes and participate once in a while. Tests are all the same format and she generally grades pretty easily on papers if you have good grammar and a good argument. She is always there to help if needed.
Down to Earth lady. She loves what she does and is always there for her students. One of the easier classes at ECU. Tests and quizzes come straight from the book but can be tricky. You do have to go to 2 concerts and write reports on them but not hard, just requires time. GO TO CLASS or she will deduct points from your grade. DO EXTRA CREDIT also.
Easy class but extremely boring. It was an easy A but I would not take again. The class overall gave me a huge headache for a elective course. A lot of your grade is based on attendance, if you don't go one day your grade will go down at least 2 points. A lot of busy work in my opinion.
She is a great teacher! She is very passionate about her lectures and loves this class. All assignments, quizzes, tests, and the final exam is online. Come to class because it counts for 10% of your grade. You definitely need the textbook because all the assignments and tests are right out of the textbook. You need to attend 2 concerts as well.

This is a boring class, since its hybrid going to class is honestly so pointless but attendance counts, I can't tell you how many times I just slept in class. It's not that hard if you know anything about music, which I don't so I had to work for it a little bit more. You have to go to two concerts and write essays on them which was awful!

Amazing Professor who is very passionate about her lectures. Quizzes and tests are online and not hard as long as you read and go through the powerpoints. Write a paper on 2 concerts. The concerts are not boring as long as you pick one you will enjoy. I recommend going to the annual powwow because it was an amazing experience!!

Doctor Nelson is boring and she does not care about her students. I consider myself a great student and I something went wrong on blackboard and one of my journals did not submit correctly. Before that I had a 98 in her class and she dropped me to a 78. ended up having to drop her class bc she refused to believe me...
I knew I was in for a world of trouble when I couldn't keep my eyes open on the first day of class. She is extremely boring. I stopped showing up considering everything was online and in the textbook. Participation barely affects your grade. Do yourself a favor and take another professor to miss out on the painful concert reports.
Lectures are mandatory but a really easy A! Most of her quizzes and her tests are on the powerpoint. Would recommend to take her, literally no homework, just weekly quizzes. There are requirements to go to events and write a paper but there is only 2 throughout the whole semester.
This class was the easiest class I have taken. You literally just have to show up you don't even have to listen. The tests are straight out of the book so have it with you when you take them. Go to the concerts and turn in the reports early. Overall easy A just go to class and read the book.

This is an extremely easy class. It's only once a week, and EVERY assignment is online. There are small quizzes due every week but its very manageable. DON'T BUY THE TEXTBOOK! You literally don't need it and it was $145, I got a 99 without it! Dr. Nelson is kind professor and this is an easy A!

The class is really easy. 1 quiz every week, multiple choice. 2 Concert reports. Power Points given every week and answer most of the quiz questions. Teacher sends out lots of emails to make sure students are keeping up with assignment due dates. Quizzes include questions about the syllabus all semester.
Nelson is very unorganized when teaching in the classroom. Her powerpoints on canvas are much more organized on the contrary. However, if you're expecting to be taught, find another course because this is very much self-taught.
