Boring, off topic, giggles for no reason, don't know what she's talking about
No Comments
boring, boring, boring, boring and boring
boring 5/5, note quality 1/5, test difficulty, 5/5 overall rating 1/5
Sometimes talks too fast, is organized though and actually follows text.
such a sweetheart! i've been able to take great notes in her class, you just need to pay attention.
Style of teaching is great because I actually pay attention so I can get notes... Great prof!!!
Very good prof, very nice, and and is very helpful. The material she talks about in class does cover the stuff from the text, but she also adds in stuff. Only bad thing is that she speaks too fast, and that not much is written on the overhead.

She is very nice and approchable. Class was interesting. The tests weren't too hard either.
Seems enthusiastic about this specific course; real easy tests.
She makes the class super interesting and answers any and all questions! tests arent too bad if you study for them
Great prof
She is the best teacher ever! she's super funny and makes the class interesting so you actually want to go! haha! she'll answer any questions and she's really friendly! tests are easy if you study! ta!
She is totally awesome!! She dances when your cell phone rings...ha ha ha! She never stops smiling, shes one of those ladies, that always looks happy, so shes approachable. I look forward to this class, shes great at teaching it. I definetely recommend her.
Very helpful after class... She will answer all of your questions even though there are a lot! My interest in Psy has increased incredibly because of her and her teaching!! Tests are not too bad as soon as you study her notes and text!
worst prof i have ever had. the class and the notes are boring and useless. she is annoying and not entertaining at all. nothing given was helpful for the exams and the exams were unnecesarily hard. useless class useless professor
Not worth it. She likes to chat about nothing in particular...note-taking becomes incoherent when she starts telling her stories. At that point, you might as well just leave class...usually happens within the first 1/2 hour or so.
An awesome prof!! She is very willing to help you with any questions. Super nice, funny, kind. Very important to go to class, her notes are crucial for the tests. Class was entertaining! Her stories are important too b/c the concepts are on the tests! So go to class, take notes (directly from her speaking!), study the text and you'll ace it!
she is the awsomest proff EVER! anyone who says otherwise is crazy.. and or jealous! she is super friendly and funny, her stories make class interesting, tests arent hard if you go to class! she made me want to take more psych! i recommend her 100%!
AWFUL PROF.!! would not recommend taking intro psych with her. Her lectures are very boring & she constantly giggles about her stupid unreleated stories. Harder then neccessary tests!!
She's clear, fun, understanding, and not to mention, extremely adorable
Cutest lady every! her little funny stories make the material easy to remember, and if anyone gets less than an A on one of their tests, they're just plain dumb or they dont come to class.
She is vey friendly, gives awesome notes and examples. She clearly enjoys teaching and this course and makes it enjoyable for all students as well. I really like her class
Sure she seems nice and makes class moderately bearable, but the tests are 30-40 questions more than any other psychology classes. Forget about the notes cause they dont help(dont show up on the tests at all). Basically she's a devil with a mask.
very awesome
She is very nice, and very approachable. She is always smiling and laughing. As far as her teaching goes... she doesn't give very clear examples, it's pretty difficult to make useful notes. Psychology is a lot of memorizing, and she doesn't give definitions in class, just confusing examples that don't make sense.Tests are quite easy if you study.
amazing teacher, very clear with her explanations, always smiling, and giggling. Awesome class. My favorite prof.
As already said, she is very clear and makes the lecture fun and involved, but her tests are absolutely brutal. Very difficult multiple choice with 70-80 questions per test. The tests dont judge how much you know, but how well you know everything in depth. Answers are often VERY similar, and you MUST do the readings to get above a C.
Intro Psych- No point to going to her class. Read the textbook instead. Her notes don't help at all for tests. For tests, know the textbook front to back. Enough said. pointless teaching. nothign she says is EVER on the test.
Very nice professor. Uses humor to make class fun. Uses real life examples for every concept that make the concepts easy to understand. Study notes thoroughly before tests and you'll do fine.

She knows her stuff very well, she uses a lot of humour in her lectures. Her lectures were all very easy to understand. You could always ask her if for help when you needed it. She's generally pretty fair about things.
u MUST attend her class if u want to get A or A+. Attendence is definitly mandatory, because she doesnt really teach by the text book, she elaborate alot from those topics in the text. so u have to WRITE down EVERYTHING she says, and when u study, u have to MUST READ the text book, its 75/25. other than that. she is one of the best profs out there!
she's very good and very straight to the point. what she teaches in class like the notes etc. are basically what's in the tests and exams.
She's a really nice prof, but it's true I'm afraid...her notes are not on the tests and it is all form the textbook, also she's trys to confuse you as much as possible on the tests.
Clear and fun, and sincerely cares about students. Definitely will consider for psych courses in the future.
She is an extremely adorable person, very upbeat and keeps your attention. I highly recogmend going to her classes as her notes are not posted and they are very useful when studying for her exams. overall a great prof!
Good prof. Attending lectures is advised. Fair testing. Is very approachable.
SO BAD!!
amazing teacher, well prepared class, an advise: take notes of whatever its not in the slides. Fair grading, exams a bit complicated. Uses the book a lot for the exam questions
Dr. Proulx is SO friendly, approachable, and dynamic that it is hard to not enjoy her personality. Professionally speaking, she is quite prepared for all her classes and uses all the 50 minutes of classes she has the right to. I truly enjoyed her class the most!
Fantastic prof, enjoyable lectures. I took this course as a filler for my schedule, and I am very glad I did. She has a genuine interest in students and is always willing to chat after class.
She cares for students, she is passionate about teaching psychology classes, she is funny, she can keep you concentrated. Fair tests. Better not text message and small talk during class, she'll know and she hates it.
She's very nice and cheerful. There was only three tests in the class, each worth a third of your grade which were all easy.
quite a boring professor, but it was fun sleeping in class!
I really enjoyed the class and learning how we develop from young age to old, but the idea of remembering at what age we learn to do what was horrible. It was similar to remembering 'at what year did this person say this?'. It's pointless. Other than that, her tests are terrible. Lacking context, expects you to know what she means on tests EZ Tests
Lectures are taught very clearly. She is a very nice, friendly, and passionate professor. All tests are MCs, not cumulative. Questions are fairly easy as long as you understand the class material and the text. They may get you to think but you will be fine if you have study for it. Class notes will not be posted online. Attending lecture is a must.
Wonderful professor and very interesting class. Would definitely take a course with her again!
One of my favourite profs. Lectures were engaging and informative. Jocelyn is very knowledgable in her field and a significant portion of the course material is not found in the textbook, so you have to attend class. Tests are fair (3 total), textbook was great.
Such a positive spirit (8:30 am) . Class facilitates taking your own notes (i used laptop then wrote them out after for helping to remember). Tests were multiple choice and sometimes tricky but doable. 5 term tests no final (non-cumulative). need to participate in other student's research for part of your final mark. enjoyed learning this stuff
Her notes are often incomplete and reading the textbook is a MUST. She seems to be a nice and funny prof, but some of the lectures are unclear and fast. Attending class is a MUST, as she does not post her notes online.
Class is easy enough, grade is from 3 multiple-choice tests. About 15% of questions on these tests were from the textbook, and had never been mentioned in class. Definitely read the book and go to class. If you do both, it shouldn't be hard to get an A or A+. Lectures can be dry but she does explain things well.
doesnt post notes online. knows students wont attend if she does. nice prof but makes sure you buy a textbook that doesn't have all the info. preferably, dont take the course with her. very nice prof tho
Jocelyn is one of the best Psychology prof I have ever taken. Her lecture can get boring for some because she tend to talk throughout but I hung on every word and found her voice very calming. she is great and approachable outside class and will stop and talk even in the bus-stop. Exams are easy A but only if you definitely attend class and listen
You can tell Professor Proulx really does care about what she is teaching. Although I had trouble staying focused during her lectures as the content was dry. She does not put the effort in to make it more interesting and engaging. She does NOT post her notes online so attendance to class is a must.
Great prof! be careful all three tests are multiple choice and an A+ is 93% so you have to really put in the work (writing down everything she says in class, and knowing your notes and textbook inside and out. But not too hard to get an A
You must attend lectures and take notes on what she says. If you do this and read the textbook there is a lot of overlap. Overall, she is extremely nice and passionate about the topics. Class can sometimes get a little bit boring but if you study you can get a good grade!
Lots of overlap between lectures and readings. You still have to do both though. Lectures are a bit boring. She's very friendly and willing to help. Evaluations consist of 3 equally weighted tests. Her questions are a bit tricky sometimes. Understand the material rather than memorize it.
One of my favourite profs at the university. She is kind and caring and most importantly enthusiastic about what she is lecturing about. She's very easy to listen to and explains things well. All marks come from 3 tests which are all multiple choice. Reading the textbook is required but overlaps a lot with lecture
Jocelyn should really brush up on her cognitive science and human physiology. I find myself constantly correcting her when she says things like "ear neurons become head neurons if you are deaf." Easy course, have to show up to get the full notes. Sort of weird grading scheme only 3 exams worth 33%.
Great Professor. Took her Psych Child and Development course and it wasn't so difficult. The only difficult part of taking the class was most often motivating yourself to read the long chapters. Great class. Read the book and attend lectures to get above a C. Currently trying to take the Adolescent Development course but on the wait list for that.
Textbook not necessary unless you want an A+, as the tests tend to be lecture-heavy. There are probably just enough textbook-only questions sprinkled on the exams to make A+ impossible without reading it, so you'll have to read 550 pages for the 3 tests if you want the best grade. 3rd test is during final exam period, none of them are cumulative.
I've taken child development and adolescent development with her! She's an amazing professor and she truly cares about her students. She has a really good humour and she explains concepts very clearly with very good examples. No need for the textbook. Test material is 95% covered in class so just take really good notes and show up to class!
Having taken 2 classes with her, I would recommend Jocelyn to anyone. Some of her rants are basically stand-up comedy, and she does a great job of connecting students to opportunities. Her lecture about the sex trade will turn you into a damn activist! 3 tests, 33% each, and you've gotta go to class. Review your notes every weekend if you want A+!
very good prof. very friendly not to tel helpful. i got a lot of help from her. i would recommend for taking her class
Jocelyn is extremely nice and caring, and her lectures are very funny and entertaining if you have the same sense of humour. There's only 3 tests, none are cumulative and all heavily weighted towards her lectures, which she doesn't post online. She gives good examples that stick with you so you don't really have to study too much. Good prof.
Information explained perfectly and in details. Easy to understand the material. The professor has very nice and caring personality.
Jocelyn is a very nice, funny and supportive. There are 3 tests, no final exam. She gives hints on what would (or wouldn't) be on the tests if you ask her. She discusses topics that are not on the textbook so you have to take notes. Gives lots of examples so the topics are very easy to understand.
This instructor refuses to post any notes online. Also, a lot of what she is testing on cannot be found in the textbook so you must show up to every class. Nothing about her lectures is very exciting, funny, or memorable in any way. You will also be tested on the things she says in class so listen well as you are trying to write everything down.
Great prof. Take notes on exactly what she's saying and you'll get an easy A+.
Lovely lady but absolutely refuses to post notes so make sure you go to lecture. Get ready to write but also pay attention to every word she says as lots of her test questions are just what she talks. Lectures are pretty dull and sleepy. Tests are multiple choice but super hard - I'd say 85% of questions are "choose the MOST right answer"
Lectures are insanely boring because she talks super slow. However, tests are insanely hard and detail specific. I'm usually an A/A+ student in Biology and I got a C+ in this course. I recommend memorizing the textbook readings. Even if you feel like you did well, you probably didn't. Questions seem pretty unfair and useless. But that's Psyc for ya
You need to go to lectures and also read the textbook. Some of her lecture material overlaps with the textbook. The test are fair and include questions on both material from her lectures which is not in the textbook but then also textbook info which is not covered in class. Shes really nice but her lectures are dry - take good notes in class.
Your grade is made up of 3 exams, no assignments or quizzes. Everything is in-class. You cannot find the notes or lectures UM Learn. However, she is a very nice professor and seems to care about her students. Interesting lectures which are detailed. READ THE TEXTBOOK.
Super nice professor but exams were not easy. Graded by 3 exams all worth a third of your grade. Didnt post her notes so you have to go to class and the textbook was essential to succeed in the course. Very enthusiastic about what she teaches but only downfall is harder exams
Great prof who loves having open discussions with the whole class which helps understand each topic very well. Cares for her students and helps whenever needed. Easily reachable through email and always enthusiastic to teach and help. Her questions are usually similar to examples used in class.
The course online consist of 3 assignment first 10% multiple choice,15% New clip article, 20% questions, 25% research paper and 30% final. She is hard marker made fun of my writing, hard final and confused prof. when you email her she replays with sarcastic way, not helpful at all.
She was a nice professor and gave good feedback on assignments. However, at times her instructions were confusing so if you are unsure about anything at all make sure to email her.
BEST PROF EVER. Recipe for an A+ is attend all classes & write every word she says in lectures + read the textbook throughly. Get the Revel version & listen to the audio in 2x speed, it will save you a lot of time. 3 assignments (fairly graded & very structured). 1 test & final (MCQs) which can be hard, but should be okay if you do the work.
3 easy assignments, plus a couple of small MC tests and an MC final exam. MCs are not challenging if you read the book and is an easy grader on assignments. Accessible outside class and kind. Had absolutely no problems with her.
Jocelyn is a great Prof. She is very quick to respond to emails even after office hours. You can tell she makes a real effort to provide support and care for her students. She is very approachable and reasonable. Loved the class and would recommend taking this course with her.
She is just like any other prof. The ones that think illness is the only possible excuse to miss a class. I didnt even ask her for help, I just asked for access to slides and was turned down. I hope she sees this and learns. You are not the only humans. Students are humans too.
I have a problem with professors like Joceylyn who don't post their lecture slides online for their students to access... especially during the PANDEMIC! Its unfortunate how unhelpful some profs have gotten during this time. Not all students can attend EVERY lecture. the LEAST you can do is make your lecture slides and videos accessible
Seems like a very kind lady. This does not excuse the fact that it is a 95- A+ course and the tests were next to impossible. Questions were wordy and ambiguous, making you second guess the correct answer. You must attend every lecture and write every small detail to get a good grade.
Very bubbly personality and very personal in class, though she gets off of topic extremely easily and as a result regularly goes over class time. She doesn't post her lecture slides or make them available to students and therefore attendance is mandatory. Tests exclusively based off of what she says (not even slides) and questions are very specific
She's very nice and helpful but. The class is pretty average but her test can be a little bit tricky. Her lectures are very fun and engaging and you have to attend them because she doesn't post any notes. Overall she's a great prof.
very caring professor. not sure why ppl are complaining that she doesn't post her slides, not all professors are going to do that.. it's their intellectual property. if you attend class (like you would've had to before the pandemic anyways) then you will get an easy a+. read the textbook too because she will throw in random questions from there
I really enjoy her lectures. She is a good teacher and makes lectures interesting. She loves to answer questions and have participation from the class. Very interesting.
Great Prof! Had her for personality psych, there was A LOT of content! Tests were really hard, and she tests on small details. She is really passionate though, and it shows!
One of the best profs I've had at UofM. Jocelyn really cares about her students and making sure they succeed. She doesn't provide class notes, but she is an amazing teacher and its easy to stay focused during class. Great at answering question and always prepared to research something for you if she doesn't know the answer. Great professor!
Dr. Proulx is very good at teaching her content and is very passionate about psychology. Her tests unfortunately are very difficult; often based on specific details in lecture. With the textbook, she can test on things she doesn't mention that you are expected to know. Also she generally doesn't record lecture or post slides Pretty good overall!
Jocelyn is a nice lady but that doesn't make her a great prof. The exams are just awful, she will test you on the most trivial facts in the textbook. Not to mention she always goes over class time because she's busy exchanging pleasantries and going off on tangents that are irrelevant. Take it with someone else if you want a good grade.
Over all a decent prof. Lectures are good, thoroughly explained, but very little slide notes, so you have to pay attention and write quick. Lots of reading, and grade entirely based on 4 tests, tough to get a very good grade. Tested on obscure parts of textbook and lectures. Can tell she cares about the subject though
I had her for both adolescent dev and adult dev. She was a very engaging lecturer that involved students through open discussion. It helped me engage with the material and do better on tests. The reading is minimal but you need to go to lectures since the slides are not uploaded. Her tests are easy if you do a bit of studying. very enjoyable class.
Dr. Proulx is an okay teacher. Her lectures are engaging enough, but she often goes off topic, which makes them hard to follow. Tests comprise 95% of the grade, and often use very obscure questions from the textbook. Lecture attendance is mandatory.
Her lectures are quite alright and very detailed I just wish she posted slides because there were no lecture slides posted for students whatsoever. That was the main downside for me because I like to go through lectures before classes.
Jocelyn is my favourite prof of all time (had her for adult and adolescent dev f2022). She's extremely caring, engaging, & warm. Class discussions were frequent, not bc they were mandatory, but because jocelyn conducts a welcoming classroom environment. The tests were not tricky, & lecture material was fun. I had an absolute blast with her. 100/10
all i can say, she is amazing. the best psych prof at u of m. so incredibly caring, wish she was my second mom.
She only has lectures and does not post her slides however they are based mainly on the textbook. She's a super sweet person and clearly cares about the students. As long as you study the textbook really well you can get decent grades on the MC exams. She includes lots of examples in her lectures to illustrate concepts and maintain engagement.
She was caring and seemed knowledgeable about the class.
I have taken personality, child development, and currently taking adult development with Jocelyn. She is one of the best profs ive ever had. In order to do good you need to show up to class, lectures and textbook material are tested on somewhat equally. she will NOT ever share notes but you can get them from classmates. Take her class if you can!
Dr. Proulx is a passionate, engaging professor, but her tests can be tricky, focusing on obscure details from the textbook and lectures. Attendance is mandatory, and the workload is heavy. unstuck ai proved helpful for study prep.
The content may come as more intuitive if you're into dev psych. Otherwise get ready for a lot of memorization. Will always make time to clarify things if you're confused and may drop hints as to what you are expected to know. Final grade is based entirely on tests/exams. Focus on lecture notes, don't worry about the text.
Amazing professor, provides clear understanding as to what to study and what is expected. Always available to help outside of class. So respected and friendly. Always willing to help and go above and beyond for students.
