She's new this semester, but seems really really nice. She gives a lot of reading, but other than that, it's not bad... it's early in the semester, but based on what I think of her so far, I'd take her again
Shes really nice, gives you a break on passing things in late, beginning of semester so far so good, does not take attendece seems fair so sar
Dr. Cohen is by far one of the best professors I've had at BSC. She is so nice and willing to help you out, especially if you're confused on the reading or have missed class. Fair grader and will allow you to speak your mind in class. She does give alot of reading, but the material is interesting.
This lady is cool. The class is boring on some days, but some days it's really fun. We have group discussions so no one feels dumb. There's 2 exams of essays but the first one was really easy as long as you pay attention in class.
Class is cool, she is a v. good teacher. Very clear and understands the world around her. Cute too! Downside: reading 3 books..UPside: 2 exams, extra credit avail. Paper due for final exam.
This class was SO interesting. I am not typically someone who is interested in schoolbut this class was SO good. lots of reading but interesting stuff. No chapters on definitions. She gives you test questions ahead of time. Extra credit availble. Shes cool and interesting too.
basically just a lecture, take good notes...gives questions from test a month in advance...very easy tests...one paper and your on your way to an easy A..
Great teacher, very clear. 2 essay tests, paper, project. Communication is awesome. Recommended!
AWESOME... the class itself was boring... lots and lots of reading, but she tried to make it interesting. 3 papers, daily write-up on the reading, and 1 posting and 1 response per week on blackboard, and a discussion at the end kind of like a presentation, but easier. Friendly and helpful. Easy A.
this lady rocks the house y'all
She takes booring subject matter and finds interesting articles and books that make taking any subject with her easy. Take her classes if possible, you will not be disappointed. She knows her stuff!!!

i took her class because of the ratings that people gave her, what a disappointment. when you ask for clarification, she doesn't answer you... I have had better classes and prof, frankly. She doesn't go over intro level terms. We don't even have a good text book, only full of essays, come on.
I have taken many classes with Jodi, and I know plenty of people who have done the same. I wouldn't be going back if she sucked... She really is a cool chicky and a good professor. It's too bad that one person had a bad experience and keeps leaving reviews that say she isn't a good prof.
the easiets A i've ever gotten. You dont have to go to class and everything is opinion questions so you cant get it wrong.
I took her intro class and thorughly enjoyed how she presents the material and the requirements of the course. She makes the topics very interesting and enjoyable. Take her for Intro and you'll be hooked.
do not take this class unless you are a man hating feminist
She is so awesome...im taking another class with her...u dont have to go to class but u want to cuz all it is is discussing the reading...no boring text books! im taking her for soc of sport next semester...def take her
Makes class discussions interesting. Provides loads of extra credit--but extra credit assignments you actually benefit from. Lots of reading, but it's interessting stuff. I've learned quite a bit.
she is a really nice lady and the class is very easy. just pay attention and you will do fine. she is very understanding about extentions on projects or papers. great teacher i would recommend her to anyone. makes sociology interesting, youll actually want to go to class.
did not care for her teaching.
Lots of discussion -- you get to express yourself in her class. Good books. Definitely recommend taking her.
Good class, test questions ahead of time so study and get an A. Cool books, novels and essays, no textbook. Great prof, fun classes, extra credit.
I took this class as a GER and loved it. It was such an easy class and grade booster. Test questions ahead of time but alot of reading. Group project at the end. Easy grader. Great class!
very straightforward. treated a GER as a GER helpful, nice but a bit polarized toward the ultra liberal side, but whats wrong with that? study a bit and you cant go wrong, very fair in grading and very understaning, take her, you wont regret it.
A lot of class participation but you will definately learn in her class and it is really easy if you pay attention.
Jodi Cohen is the best professor you will find around here, shes amazing...you have write up's due every class (opinion based)...no final.. no midterm..2 papers that she lets you pass in early and she edits them herself...aside from that she values every students opinion and you actually learn a lot of things that you never really noticed before
One of my top favorite Prof at BSC. Class was a piece of cake, opinion based short essays due at each class. No tests, just two papers, 5 pages each I think. Real easy grader and does not try to push her opinions on others like some prof do. Values others opinions. Found the class to be very thought provoking
What a nice person! Professor Cohen is now my advisor and she is truly such a help. She helps her students as much as possible and even lets them borrow from her DVD collection! She's a peach.
Great teacher. Really helpful + clear in class. Homework is a must, but if you do bad on a paper, she'll let you redo it. Which is awesome. Helped a lot with registering for classes too.
I had her for a video class. Alot of reading. Assignment each week and 2 exams (4essay questions each). She gives you the questions for the exams weeks in advance, so there is plenty of time to study! TAke her it's worth it!
Her class is okay but I am taking Sociology of sports right now....tons of reading and we have a paper due literally every day. We have 5 books we need to read and her handouts that you have to print at home are 100+ pages are you kidding me !!
I took her for the honors into to sociology class and she required alot of reading but it was mainly just for class discussion, you could get away with not reading (i did) but it made life ALOT harder for day to day class and tests which were just essay questions about the books. Take her if you know how to BS.
Took this class online in the summer - lots of work and reading, but really good books. Def recommend!
I took her online course. It was a lot of reading. But she was great about staying in touch with all of us. There are two test that are written. She is wonderful about getting back to you right away. I would love to have her as a teacher again. Take her class if you can!
Nicest and most helpful professor I have met so far! There is ALOT of reading, but they are very interesting books. She is my advisor also and has been incredibly helpful in my transferring process. I would have been completely lost without her. Very sincere and wants students to excel. DEFIANTELY recommend!
lots of reading, but i took her for gender sexuality so it was reading about sex. 2 papers which she grades very easy. posting on blackboard. can get my with not reading, but its easy so might as wwll just read. nice lady. would take her again.
Took her web class on Juvenile Delinquency. Lots of reading and you should expect to post lots of responses online each week- two responses to reading and four responses to other students. She is an easy grader though, and the material is fairly interesting. Would take her class again.
Great Professor! Very helpful! A lot of reading, but the readings are very interesting, so it is worth it. As long as you do all the work, you will do fine in her class.
Good class! 2 essay exams with open notes, 1 research paper, and stuff on blackbrd. Do the work and you'll get and A.
Took her food seminar, she gives way too much work. This is a typical week in her class. Post 2 entries of your food blog, comment on two other peoples food blogs, follow five food blogs online, read 100 pages a night, bring a one page write up to every class, then do whatever project she has assigned for that week. Shes nice but gives 2 much work.
Took SOC-255 Juv delinquency + soc of work, both online. 50 - 100 pages reading 2 ? 3 times a week. 4 - 5 little books, but they?re interesting. A 350+ word post per reading + 2 comments of other?s posts, + 2 research papers on anything. You know what to expect and it's easy to get ahead. Do the work and you'll get an A. I would take her again.
Great class! The best part is that she's really into the stuff that we're talking about and this makes the class even better. Lots of reading, but she's a fair grader and gives you opportunities to rewrite for a better grade. I would take a class with her again. Highly recommend!
Great books, really make you want to keep reading. Only 2 papers (yr choice of topic), and then writing opinion of the readings online. Love this class, want to take another online class with Dr. Cohen soon!
This is the best class at BSC! You talk about stuff that no one else wants to talk about in class, but everyone needs to talk about. Really eye opening. The best part - she actually wants to hear your opinions!
A lot of reading, but you will learn a lot in this class! Topics are very interesting, and if you do the work, you will get the grade. She isn't extremely clear what she wants out of the assignments, but if you ask for clarification, she is very helpful.
don't take her harry potter class. it sucks to much work. very unclear on the direction. her personality is split.
The Harry Potter class was awesome! I wish we met more often, instead web. Loved the books, loved the prof, loved the class!
Great professor, I had her for 3 classes. Alot of reading and daily write-ups but the classes were so interesting. Def. would take again.
Dr.Cohen, Is a very nice Professor to take at BSC or BSU. She cares about her students. She even offers for students to hand in assignments early and she will let you know how you could do your paper different or better. Going to miss taking her classes very much. You diffinatly learn alot. Thanks Dr.Cohen for the best school year ever!!!
Online class, LOTS of reading and a decent amount of writing. If you don't mind putting in the effort then take this class. She is very clear and really nice and if you do the work you will get an A or B.
One of the best professors I've had at BSU!
Probably the most helpful teacher at BSU. I don?t even have her as an adviser for sociology but I still go to her for questions because other adviser won?t give you the time of day. Her classes are extremely interesting. For her class there are no tests or quizzes. met with her three times a week and had to bring in a page write up to class. Then t
She is a terrible professor and I would not recomend taking her. She is very frivolous and does not phrase things in a manner to not offend the class. She phrased something in my class the irked many students and they felt very uneasy the reat of the year. She also randomly adds more work at the end of the year while she has you writing papers.
I seriously loved this class! The readings were so interesting and you actually wanted to do them. Class is discussion, so that's interesting too. Dr. Cohen always has an open door and is there to help! She's the best!
She is a real nice lady. I actually looked forward to listening to her. You can tell that she loves what she does and that she wants her students to love it just as much. Great professor.
I have taken many classes with Jodi, and I know plenty of people who have done the same. I wouldn't be going back if she sucked... She really is a cool chicky and a good professor. It's too bad that one person had a bad experience and left a review that say she isn't a good prof. Take her!
she went out of her way to help me last semester-its nice to know theres some people who actually really care at bsu
Take her Middle East class in the summer -- the readings are amazing and the class is really straight forward, especially for an online class! Prof is good and you might learn something! :)
insane amount of work for a summer class. really unreasonable, she needs to get over herself. im taking 2 other soc classes this summer and she literally has a paper due each day. really ridiculous.
Really a bad class this summer. I've taken an online class with her and it was nothing like this. She definitely had a had time grasping the time constraints she had. I was dissappointed to say the least. She was also terrible on email, and used an alternate email than provided on the syllabus to communicate with us, but never replied from that one
This class really left a bad taste in my mouth. It started out well but she was often unclear in her directions and never updated on grades or submissions. Online class, and felt like the students were on their own.
I really can't understand what people are complaining about. If you did the work on the syllabus you definitely can earn an A. Summer classes are a lot of work, but this one wasn't too bad and Dr. Cohen is great!
I loved that readings in the Family class, they were really good and not boring. Wish I had taken it during the semester instead of the summer, but thought the prof was good.
Such a good class and a great professor! Dr. Cohen really listens when students talk and asks questions about what we think. I learned a ton and felt like I could say anything in class and be respected.
Good class, really good readings, and the assignments were not too bad. It was a lot of work, but that's mostly because it was summer and only 5 weeks long. Prof was good on email, quick to email back on questions. Definitely Recommend!
Overall an easy class, but she never responded to my e-mail requesting help. I sent it twice, once as high importance and she ignored it!! She has her own opinion on everything and hers is always correct...She does not respect other opinions at all. She did not send reminders on due dates & has no sympathy if you forget anything.
Cool class, easy to follow and most of the work s online. Prof was good about email. A lot of reading, but some was the Harry Potter books, so that's easy. Def recommend.
Even though I highly disliked her, I enjoyed the class. It was very easy, all we did was watch movies and do write-ups basically about our own lives. However... Cohen is very condoscending! Whenever you ask her a question she gives you this look likwe you don't make any sense and akes you feel stupid. I would not recommend her.
I really like Prof Cohen, she really allows you to speak your mind in class and listens. Her discussions are interesting and sometimes really fun. I guess it's all about personality, and I really like hers. She's a good prof and cares about her students.
I liked this class and Dr. Cohen. The books she chose are really good, easy to read and interesting. You can pick your own topic for the paper, and she's always online to answer questions (which is good with an online class). Definitely take this class!
Good books and a good professor makes for a good semester. Dr. Cohen is really helpful and makes time to email and meet when you ask. Definitely take her.
Horrible experience with Dr. Cohen. Her course load is INSANE and pretty much forced me to be working around the clock. The assignments do not help with the subject matter (which is rather straight forward). She does E-mail you back right away, but that may be her only redeeming quality. Too much work, too little time, unclear assignments.
Ok, it was a lot of work, but it also was a summer class, which means only 5 weeks instead of 15. She picked really good books, which at least made the reading enjoyable, and the writing was pretty easy (opinions and ideas about the readings). Overall, good for a summer class.
I really like Dr. Cohen, she's so helpful. I know that online courses in the summer are intense, and her are really intense, but she always answers email fast and she's good about giving you a break when things out of school are out of your control. Definitely take a class with her, you won't be sorry.
The prof makes you do a ton of writing 4 days a week but you don't need to read the assignments. you can just write about the topic because there's no grading of the assignments. If you wrote anything, you get full credit. One thesis statement and one final paper plus daily writing. Never heard from Prof about grades, she seemed uninterested.
Ok, the semester isn't over yet, but I seriously love this class. Dr Cohen leads these really interesting discussions and I've actually learned a lot. The work load isn't too bad either. Great class!
Really good class, great prof -- lots of reading, but discussions are based on readings so you're not wasting your time. Good in class discussions and projects, definitely worth taking this class.
Great class, worth taking, especially if you're planning on becoming a teacher. This is a real look at how schools and education works, definitely take it, you won't regret it. Dr. Cohen is also really helpful, she'll write rec letters for you and help out with advising. Definitely recommend any class with her.
Good class, I would say same amount of work as a regular class, but online. Good: Cohen is good about getting back to you quickly on email, the assignments aren't hard and you get to write about what you think. Bad: Lots of reading, but most is pretty interesting.
Professor Cohen is awesome! i've had her for 2 classes and she is extremely helpful and easy. there are a lot of books for class, but theyre easy reads. make sure you do the write ups for class, but theyre only a page. group projects, but theyre easy. shes likes to have class conversation too
She doesn't answer questions clearly. Tells you to "look at your notes". When I asked for an example of a topic for an assignment, told me that picking a topic was part of the assignment and wasn't helpful at all. I'm a junior with a 3.8 GPA, this professor was no help whatsoever.
Dr Cohen is so helpful! Honestly, I don't know how I would have made it through the semester without her help. She's a great prof, and just a great human being. I had her for SYS class that was evening, and bc I am an evening student i don't get to go to office hours, but Dr Cohen came in so that we could meet. Great class, highly recommend.
Love this class, love the professor -- Hunger Games all semester long? Yes please! Assignments are actually fun, no, really! And, even though she's not an advisor in my major, she helped me with registration stuff.
Really good class. We read the Hunger Games series (all three books) and watched the films. Then we talked about the differences between the films and the books and the things that the author was trying to tell us and warn us about. Talked about the world now and the world in the books. Professor is great, you can tell that she loves to teach!
Good class, nice professor. I took this online, so I didn't sit in lectures, but the books were good, really interesting - NOT boring textbooks. We had a paper and then a bunch of short essays, 1 page, about the readings. If you keep up with the work, this class isn't too hard, but if you fall behind you probably won't pass.
Dr. Cohen is really helpful when you put together a schedule and she's great to have as a teacher in classes. I really like that her teaching style is more a discussion instead of lecture. This is my third class with her and I highly recommend taking one of her classes.
Take her Hunger Games class, it was awesome! Read the HG books, watch the HG films, talk about the meaning behind what the author/film makers were showing us -- such a good class!
Only take her for online courses. She makes face to face classes the worst possible experience. Loves to assign group work so she can sit at the front of the class and do nothing. You're a lot safer online!
Love Soc of Childhood! I have learned so much from Dr. Cohen this semester. I feel more prepared to become a teacher, more understanding about the world. Her classes are really good, you get out what you put in to them.
Loved this class! Dr. Cohen is awesome, she even helps out with stuff that has nothing to do with class. Seriously, she wants to help. Take her sexuality class, you learn a lot and the discussions are really interesting. I hope I can take another class with her!
Jodi is a really nice professor. Her childhood class was very interesting. Her classes are more discussion based on the readings. Simple 1 page write-ups are due each class. Two research papers and no exams. There is lots to read but the books are quite interesting. I would recommend Jodi to anyone. I hope to take more classes with her.
I had her for a online class, fair amount of work i learned a lot, and enjoyed reading the books. would take again.
She gives you the syllabus at the beginning of the course, so you can get your books early. She requires a good amount of reading and responding to other students posts, but if you have the read chapters she assigned, it is pretty manageable. She responds to emails quickly and is always willing to help a student in need. I enjoy her courses.
Dr. Cohen's class is very boring, although it is an Easy A if you just pass in your work. In her first year sem, we did the same exact thing every single day. The directions for group work were never given to you, so we were all lost. She's nice enough.
Do your work and youll pass, make sure things are on time. She doesnt really email back, and doesnt explain or give good instruction for group projects or any outside of class assignments. Very lecture and note based. Youre pretty much on your own.
I've taken Dr Cohen for a few classes. She assigns a lot of readings and she does seem tough, but as long as you make an effort, you will get an A. Every class you have a 1 page reading response due on one of the readings, sometimes there are several long readings "due", but as long as you read one, you're good. Very nice and her lectures are good
Took her Soci 255 online good luck getting an email back from her. I emailed her once at the start of the term and she replied, but half way during the year she jsut stops replying. She does not post grades and says if their is an issue she will contact you, but when I clearly knew I made a mistake I emailed her and got no response.
I really like Dr. Cohen, she's very approachable when you have questions and she really does full class discussions (not just straight up lecture). I've had her for 3 classes so far and plan on taking another one online with her this summer.
I'm in her class right now for a seminar and I really like the class. We read the Divergent series and then talk about society and the characters, and the author's meaning. A couple of projects, short presentations and some writing. Class is actually kinda fun because we talk about the books and films. I would take her again.
Not sure what the complaints are about, Dr. Cohen is super considerate and gives everyone a chance to talk in class. There is a lot of reading, but she's really open during discussions. I enjoy her classes and plan to take more of them.
Thank you Dr. Cohen for being the teacher that you are. I can't say enough good things about what I have learned from you while at BSU! Your classes have been inspiring, especially Sociology of Education.
I really liked her Juvenile Delinquency class, the discussions online were good, readings were good too. She was really good about emails, and responding. Recommend!
I had a really tough semester and Dr. Cohen was really helpful and worked with me on deadlines when my life was messed up. I really appreciate that she was caring and that she was so fast with emails. Not all of my professors were helpful so it mattered a lot to have one that really cared and helped. And Intro was a good class I liked the books.
Prof Cohen is excellent! I have taken her for three classes now. But you will read and write a LOT! Her classes are pretty demanding but she chooses excellent books and the work required is reasonable, although stressful at times. You learn a lot from her and she gives good feedback. Requires great time mgmt and organizational skills.
She is so passionate about the trilogy & important issues in our society. If youre a big fan of The Hunger Games, this class is so fun. The discussions are interesting & eye opening. A majority of assignments are notes on sections of the books & films 1.5 pages each. Theres a group project, but youre given enough time & your final is an essay.
Jodi is excellent! Assignments are clear each week there is a discussion essay and classmate response due. There are 4 books that you will need and they are inexpensive. This course is reading and writing based you won't pass if you don't do the reading! I highly recommend. Best online class I've taken my whole Undergrad career!
This was a web class. You learn everything through the readings. There is no Professor to student interaction unless you reach out to her. From what little interaction I had with her, she was nice. Assignments are straight forward, theres just a lot to do.
Social work major here! I was excited to take the class at first, however, Professor Cohen was very passive aggressive and lacked tremendous empathy for her students. She uses dinosaur stamps and such to give papers credit. No stamp means you're screwed even if you were out sick in the hospital for the due date. Doesn't matter if you emailed it!
Dr. Cohen's Intro class was actually really good. Besides the books she showed video clips and talked about media, some of it was really eye opening! You have to be in class to hand in work, but you can miss a few and still make up the points. She listens to ideas from students, and classes were interesting. Would definitely take her again!
I loved this class! I can't even explain how fun it is to look at the Hunger Games and talk about all of the parts to really understand the meaning in what the author wrote! We looked at so many different things and all of it came from the books and films. Very cool class with a very passionate professor - she seriously knows these books!
I am so glad that I took her class this summer! This was my first online course and Dr. Cohen made it amazing! Clear directions in the syllabus, really informative reading and videos. I feel like I learned a ton and now I am signed up to take 2 more classes with her this Fall. Definitely take this class!
I loved this class! It was very easy and straight forward, she posts all of the assignments ahead of time so if you wanted to get ahead, you could. Very interesting subject, well taught, and she seems nice (I couldn't tell because this class did not meet on zoom). You will need the textbook and 2 additional novels, one was the first Harry Potter :)
Used textbook, had 1 DQ board each week 2 responses to classmate and 2 discussion questions on Harry Potter and This is where it ends. SUPER EASY to understand and gives extra credit when you help another classmate by answering on the general forms tab. She gives plenty of time to do the work. You can submit early and then respond to others after.
This is the best professor Ive ever had. No professor has even been more understanding than DR Cohen would 100% recommend taking her classes l. She wants to see you succeed.
Dr. Cohen is awesome! Took this course during the winter intercession 2021, fast pace because of the short course, however, it's doable. Very informative reading and videos. Books are required. Very clear syllabus. Extra points are available. Great feedbacks and return emails fast. Overall, definitely will take Dr. Cohen class again!
I took her class asynchronously and she was so organized, it made the class so enjoyable! Lots of reading but it isn't too bad. Weekly discussion posts with 2 bigger papers. Anytime I reached out for questions she was super nice and answered quickly. Loved her class, highly recommend!!
Professor Cohen was one of the best professors I have had this semester! Her readings are very interesting, along with videos! There is an essay once a week, only 350 words long. I thought her class was going to be difficult but I was completely wrong! Her class is awesome.
she just does an overall bad job teaching. I never understand what I should be doing in this class.
She relies on you to be looking at your syllabus everyday and doesn't tell you when the assignment is due. Also you have to read Harry Potter? Since when is that related to this class??? She also put 2 essays on the same day??? HOW
I really love Dr. Cohen's Intro class, and I just switched to make sociology my major. She's really into the social justice and talks to us a lot about ideas in class. Def recommend! She's really good about communication and always emails back fast. I like her teaching and am taking 2 classes with her next semester.
I wasnt sure about taking a Soc class bc Im a chem major. But Dr Cohen makes it really approachable. I like her class a lot. Shes a good teacher and if I werent graduating I would take another class with her. Recommend!!!
Dr. Cohen is a really good professor -- her class discussions in Soc of Ed really push you to think and to see the inequality that exists. This class really helps to prepare you to become a teacher. There are so many things that I never thought about before this class that are really important. Definitely take this class with Dr. Cohen!
Honestly the class was easy as long as you were able to match her political opinions. We did the readings and assignments at home, then would come into class for her to briefly talk about it. She mostly used her time to preach opinions while we taught ourselves. Would only take again if I had too.
Here's the real deal, Dr. Cohen cares about what she teaches and it shows. She asks questions and wants you to answer. Her Intro Soc was really good, and now Im a Soc major. Worth taking! You learn a lot and she really gives you things to think about.
Dr. Cohen is an excellent professor. I really enjoyed her class and found her to be very helpful and fair. She was quick to answer email, which was good with an intersession class. I am looking forward to a regular semester class this Spring. Bonus - she chooses really interesting books!
Soc of Education with Dr. Cohen was a great class! She is very organized and what we discussed really took the readings to the next level where everything connected. She clearly believes that there is a lot that can change in order for there to be equality in schooling and I feel that I learned a lot and the class really opened my eyes.
Take Prof Cohen for Intro Soc! The syllabus was really organized and you can choose to work ahead by posting work early. This was great for me bc it meant that I didn't have to fall behind when work was busy. She's good about emailing back and gives feedback with grades so you know if you are doing things right. Def recommend.
I took Juvenile Delinquency with Dr Cohen online during break and while it was intense, it was so good! I loved the books that we read they were super relatable and really interesting. I recommend this class if you are planning to work with youth! It is really helpful. The class was organized and easy to follow online. Recommend!
This class was so easy! As long as you do the work and turn it in with the criteria necessary youll get a 10/10. We had a 450 word discussion post based on a reading each week and then 2 chapter books to read and do questions on but you can do in a group. She assigns a lot of reading, but you only have to do one. I highly recommend taking her!
She is amazing. I did learn a lot from her. All you need to do is study and do your part as a student to succeed; she will surely meet you in the middle. I Would 100% recommend her.
the best professor ever. 10 essay for the semester as hw & only 350 words minimum. final is a presentation w a group that u get to pick with who & she makes her class very interesting.
This was my second time taking one of Professor Cohen's courses and I will say that she is great! Usually ends class early, manageable work load, attendance doesn't really count, and she keeps the content pretty light. Despite this, I had to rend like 5 different books for this course.
This is a great course to take especially if you plan to be a teacher. We spent a lot of time discussing problems in adolescents and how to think about why it all matters. Really good books that were WORTH READING! Dr Cohen is a great professor and I recommend any classes that you can take with her. You will learn a lot and she is really helpful.
Everything is online. She is such a nice professor and her assignments are VERY clear and have EASY instructions to understand. She makes sure to also lay all assignments out on the syllabus before the semester. Great class, I would truly recommend it to anyone.
Prof Cohen is very kind. 10 mini essays for the semester corresponding to 1 of the 3 textbooks (the other 2 are fiction stories, not bad). She assigns one group project to be done at the end of the semester and gives class time to work on it. She is easy to reach via email and gives good feedback on assignments. She was very nice and I recommend.
Online class for my minor and head more homework in this class than the others combined but it's college that's why we are here if that's all you have to do it's simple but if you have kids in your older student this can be a tough class because of the amount of reading in papers that are due but if I could do it with three kids you can
If you put in the work, you will get a 100. Read 1 or 2 articles a week and then write 500 words about it, super easy and straightforward. We read a few fiction books that we answered questions about, which was the hardest thing we had to do all semester. I love Dr. Cohen and she's always my first choice because her classes are simple and clear.
I really liked Dr Cohen's Intro Sociology class. The regular readings were ok, the novels were good, and she gives lots of interesting information in lectures. We read Harry Potter and talked about family, friendship, good & evil, etc. It was really interesting to talk about a book this way. Definitely different! Definitely take her class!
Took juvenile delinquency during intersession and it was a 5 week class. It was a lot of work to do in 5 weeks, but it was set up so that you could work ahead. Good structure & everything was easy to access. Assignments were clear. The readings were interesting & it was worth taking the class. If you can a class with Prof Cohen you should.
I don't know how this woman has so many good ratings. Felt so condescending the way she couldn't just teach us sociology, she assigned mediocre children's literature (Harry Potter?! of all things) for us to analyze the sociological structures within the story to relate to real life. I can't make this **** up.
Dr. Cohen is a really good professor and takes a different approach to teaching sociology. She is very clear on what she expects and if you follow the rubrics, you will do great.
I love her thats all I need to say she is the best
Prof. Cohen is awesome. The course was well laid out and she provided strong communication. Class involves writing 7 essays (they're easy though), watching two films (answering questions) and giving 3 speeches on sociologically significant art, buildings, and monuments. No textbook or final exam. Provides EXCELLENT feedback. Highly recommended!
Pretty good. Hard grader when it comes to finals and midterm. Not very interesting.
Dr Cohen gave clear instructions and expectations. She also allowed class time for the final project so that no one had difficulty making the time to do it. I wish I had her for every class I have to take.
The inclusion of Harry Potter and This Is Where It Ends was great! Both books were interesting and the discussions about them made everything that we worked on all semester long fit together. I like that Dr Cohen used books like this along with the articles. I feel like I learned so much in this class!
I liked this class, the readings were interesting and the set up for the online course was easy to follow. You get feedback on everything along with your grade. If you post your work on time and include reading quotes, you will do well. I've taken a few classes with Dr. Cohen, she is a really good professor and she cares about her students.
Great professor! This is my 3rd online class with Dr Cohen, and first summer online class. Her format works really well -- read, write an essay, respond to the essay of someone in the class, and then book questions. Her class books are always interesting and she's really quick about responding to emails. Definitely recommend!
Class pretty much is just reading the hunger games novels, discussing the chapters then watching the movies and doing the same. Every book there's a group assignment and then the final is a group presentation. Class is easy so if you're looking for a 1st year seminar i'd suggest especially if you like the series/want to read it
I really enjoyed this class and Professor Cohen. She is very kind, understanding, and a fair grader. If you do the work you will pass the class. You have to get all 3 of the hunger games book for this class and you will read all the book and watch all the movies. Highly recommend this class and professor Cohen. No tests or quizzes.
Love Professor Cohen. How this class works is each set of chapters you read you will do chapter questions instead of a quiz. After you read each book you will do book questions, and then after each movie you will do film notes. At the end you will go a group presentation. This class very fun and the work was manageable. Do the work you will pass.
Professor Cohen is the best professor I've taken a class with so far. She is caring, engaging, and obviously LOVES teaching this class. The in class discussions about all of the Hunger Games books and films are interesting and thought-provoking. If you like to read or have any interest, take this class Professor Cohen is great, you won't regret it!
I took her hunger games class which was reading the first 3 books of the series so a lot of reading but also watching movies. She clearly cares about the books and students. She is very good at answering emails quickly and is clear about her expectations. The only downside is the lectures not being engaging but at times she is funny.
I really liked Prof Cohen's Juvenile Delinquency class! I took it online and she is the best organized of any online prof that I have had. She emails back right away to answer questions and gives feedback on assignments. I like the set up of her online classes, this is the second class that Ive had with her online. Def recommend 100%!
Dr. Cohen's Juvenile Delinquency class is worth taking! The readings are really interesting and the assignments all have clear directions. She's really good about email and gets back to you right away when you have questions. This is my third web class with Dr. Cohen, and all of them have been well set up and easy to follow. Highly recommend!!!
Shes great for asynchronous courses- would recommend!
