This is her first year teaching, so I have to give her some credit. However, it was miserable when all she did was read her own interpretations of things (way too quickly) -- then say, "I want my description, not the book's." However, if you attend class and put forth an effort, you'll be fine.
I thought that she did a good job teaching. She graded fairly and had stories to tell. She told us what to study for the test and would repeat things that she wanted us to know. I got an A in the class.
Professor Empol was very helpful. In the beginning I asked her if she could layout what will be on each quiz and she did. She started doing powerpoint each class which made everything much more understanding. She even met with me outside of class. She is a great teacher that I'd recommend to anyone who is planning on taking Poly Sci.
Great professor, really interesting class. Made really difficult and complicated concepts easier to understand by good explanations and comparisons to everyday life. The only downside was the textbook we used in class was very lengthy and hard to figure out which info we needed to know and didn't need to know. Great class!!!
Jodi hasn't been in school yet because she has had surgery, which is understandable. But, she did give us an impossible assignment and has been very hard to get a hold of for help. I've e-mailed her twice and nothing. So far, not so good.
read the book
she is extremely fair. she assigns a lot of reading from the textbook, but she uses a power point in class to break down the chapter. puts her notes online when its time for the test to help you study, gives a study guide a week in advance to help you prep for test. good teacher take her class.
A very fair-minded teacher. I loved that she tried very hard to be unbiased. Back in 06 her lectures were very disorganized and repetitive, but it sounds like Power Point is helping her. Quizzes can be killers, but she's lenient on the presentations and papers. Whine, and she will cave in :)
Not impressed...class is interesting, but her tests and papers are too literal, and not to mention entirely too hard, she takes her class too seriously.
She is my favorite teacher in MONTCO.
she is really nice and approachable as long as ur on her good side. read what she tells u to before class. she gets very mad if no one knows whats goin on. she is very fair, flexible and understandable. her tests are only hard if u don't know EVERYTHING on the study guide she is a great teacher
VERY NICE WOMAN, seems like the kind of person you could have a beer with, BUT, SHE IS SO HARD. SHE THINKS HER CLASS IS THE ONLY ONE YOUR TAKING. HER STUDY GUIDES, AFTER YOU ANSWER THE QUESTIONS, ARE LIKE 4 PAGES FRONT AND BACK!!! her papers are VERY involved.
SHE IS REALLY A KOOL TEACHER. SHE LOVES CANDY AND POLITICS..STUDY GUIDES ARE TOOOO LONG HOPE SHE WILL MAKE IT SHORTER ....
Definatly knows her material. Make sure you do each weeks reading material becuase she gets pissed when you dont do your homework. And she makes you pay attention to polotics which i think is a good thing. Overall really awesome teacher just keep up each day with her work and you'll be fine
shes gives u a study guide and everything comes from that, other than that her class lectures are strictly from the book and a waste of time sinse u can read ur book at home, still a very good teacher just needs to liven up her class.
She's an awesome teacher, although her powerpoints are kinda dry and boring, but she skips over alot of useless stuff. If you pay attention and take notes there shouldn't be an issue. Plus, she gives you many oppurtunities for extra credit that you can't really fail. If you do, it's your fault. I could've gotten an A if I studied for the 1 test.
She is a very fun teacher and grades well. If you participate and study you will easily ace the class. She gives study guides for all of her tests. If you do not use the study guide you will fail. However the study guide is right there. She also has had a few funny lectures about squirrels.
She's a great teacher. Talks A LOT, and I do mean a lot, but I learned the most from her all quarter. I'd take her class again and look forward to another round of debating the issues. She respects your opinions. Other reviewers for her classes need to learn how to spell if they are going to knock her.
In my opinio professor Empol is a very good teacher. I enjoyed her class. If you do what you are supposed to you will do well. It's up to you. Don't whine do the work.
Extremely easy teacher. if u know the study guide that she gives before test and u can not get a less than B+. i didnt study at all for her test and till got a B+. tells funny jokes if u could understand them.
get on her good side ...she gives extra credit so pay attention to detail she is very helpful but yo have to ask for it.....LOVED HER!
First of all, if you think her study-guides and papers are too involved and you plan on transferring to a four-year university, get used to it. She was my favorite professor at Montco. Extremely helpful and understanding. If you ask for help you will get it. IF YOU COMPLETE THE STUDY-GUIDE, AND FOLLOW THE PAPER GUIDELINES EXACTLY, you will be fine.
Awesome teacher. Her tests are made with the same terms/essays listed on the study guides so if you put a few hours into reading the chapters again before the test and filling out the guide you are guaranteed to pass. The extra credits given in the class total up to at least 50 or so points, which can be a major boost in the grade.
Prof Empol was great. She gave you enough rope to either hang yourself, or make something out of it. Study guides are awesome. Alot of material, but if you know the study guide, you'll get an A. The perfect relationship between difficulty, and easyness. You have to want to fail this class to fail it.
Take any class she teaches!
She's my favorite teacher at Montco. Always tries to make the class fun and interesting. Gives two papers and four tests and a bunch of extra credit throughout the semester. You def. have to study and apply yourself, but this is college so you do have to study. If you're interested in politics, definitely take her. And def. no texting in class!
If you have no interest in politics, do not take this class with her, because she loves politics and moves quickly.
She goes WAY too fast! If you are not interested in poli sci i recommend you not take her class. She belittles you when you ask for help and was overall not helpful. I felt as though she was not a good prof
Prof Empol is one of the best MC3 has to offer, end of story. Her classes are as easy or as hard as you choose to make them. Tests are all essay and papers are rather detailed, but the study guides/directions she gives you are legitimately a blue print for success. If you are a slacker don't take this class, you won't do well.
Worst professor ever! She needs a refresher course in MLA citations and how bibliography pages work. So many rules it is nearly impossible to follow her directions. Take this course with someone else.
She knows her stuff but She needs to go back to politics. She is the reason why students hate going to school. The worst teacher I have ever had. Shes very unorganized and expects you pick up everything she teaches in one day. She thinks shes funny when shes really not. Also makes you feel stupid if you ask for help. She sucks as a teacher.
Probably the most disrespectful and unprofessional Professor I've ever worked with. She probably used more expletives in the three months of class than every other professor I've dealt with combined. Her class is presented in such idealist terms that it is often factually inerrant. Unless you want a disrespectful establishment hack, look elsewhere.
She makes government as interesting as she can. A lot of the dry topics she just flat out says they suck to learn, and suck to teach, which is awesome to say. Her workload isn't too bad, and she is a very understandable person. She has an awesome sense of humor. She is very forgiving, and doesn't really hold grudges. I would recommend her classes.
knows her stuff and is a fun teacher. She provides detailed study guides and explains assignments well...She crushes on grades though and you really need to put in the hourrs on the course...Offers extra credit and you really have to not give a crap to fail. She will help you pass if you seek her out. Good class would recommend her.
I laugh because I know she reads these posts and can pinpoint every single student that didnt like her. She's one of the best at MontCo I feel. Very fair, and easygoing.Do the work, ask for help if needed, STUDY, and you'll be fine. She only helps those who WANT help. She's not going to baby you..because...geuss what... we're in college. SURPRISE!
Shes an awesome teacher. I had her this past semester and she really gets the students involved in class. Shes very intelligent. her tests come right out of the notes and text plus she gives you study guides. so if you fail the tests thats your fault. The papers were a little tough but its college. Overall she is a really nice teacher and makes the
Pretty fun class. Had a great time and some great laughs. But her exams are impossible!! She expects students to write EXTREMELY LONG essays (more than one..) in 55 minutes...
I had her a few years ago and had no intrest in the class. It was mandatory. By the end, I was so into it I actually changed my major to history/polical science ! She is a great teacher and I look forward to taking more of her classes in the future
If you put in the work, you will get a good grade. Yeah, she's harsh at first, but so is the real world. She has a no b.s. approach to teaching, which can be a turn off for some. She definitely grew on me, and I enjoyed going to her class every other day.
had her for 124 and 125. Seriously a great teacher and easy to work with. If you need help, ask. She makes you work but lays everythingout way ahead of time. Tests are essay but she gives a detailed study guide. Papers are detailed but if you follow her instructions, you get a good grade. Plenty of extra credit. You have to try to fail her class.
I took this class online and although she layed out all the work in the beginning of the course she seemed to be an unexperienced teacher. She insisted that students not use their books during tests and I DOUBT they didn't. No study guide and weekly lesson plans completely unhelpful. Treats students like children but grades very harshly. Don't Take
she's a fast talker, but you learn a lot. She's straight to the point, so dont mess around. Frequent mood changes. word to the wise, DONT USE YOUR PHONE IN CLASS, AND DO NOT TALK WHILE SHE IS TEACHING
This teacher was verynfair. Her test was extrimily hard. Please dont take any clases with this teacher. She is cruel.
I cannot speak for her classroom decorum, since I had her for POL 124 online. In my opinion, she offers a classic example of how not to teach, at any level of education. Way too much pointless work, and an extremely confusing course format. Avoid taking her at all costs. She took an otherwise interesting subject and turned it into a nightmare.
I am currently taking this class. She is a fast talker and can be a little tough but she is very fair. I took to many classes and fell behind in class and she helped me get caught back up; I had to do it during her office hours which where early in the am but if you go she will work with you.
If you ask a question she will be like look at the syllabus. Her test are all writing, which is not fair to people with bad writing. She will threaten to give the class a two-page paper if someone does not understand something. As said before will not help and only will say look at the syllabus. Will help very little. An average teacher at best.
If I was writing this in the beginning of the course I'd say she's a horrible teacher. Honestly, she's a great teacher. She pushes you to understand our government, kind of useful. She's difficult, sometimes takes it out on the class, and yeah, tests are tough, but if you study you'll be fine. I suck at essay tests and I survived.
She is a good teacher. She makes herself available to you if you need help. She is pro military and thats great. Her tests are challenging but fair. Read what she tells you to read and make flash cards. I struggled in her class but still passed. She will work with you. Thank you.
Class can be a full time job. Discussion boards are easy, papers are easy and oddly specific and the tests are hit or miss. There is an unrealistic expectation of outside reading and work that would be done for the class.
The workload is a bit heavy, including an unnecessary amount of reading material. The syllabus and course schedule are lengthy, poorly organized, and confusing. Professor Empol-Schwartz is passionate & knowledgeable; but expects a reciprocal enthusiasm from a 100 level class, which seems more appropriate for grad level. Unrealistic. Confusing.
The class is pretty hard, but as long as you do the massive amounts of reading for the class and study hard for the exams, you'll be able to pass. And you can tell that she really cares about what she teaches and tries to help you out.
This class is the most difficult class I have ever taken. it is nearly impossible to read everything and take the exams without wanting to cry. most stress I've ever dealt with. I had to cut back hours at work just to get all the work done in the time limits given. AVOID AT ALL COST.
The test are all writing so make sure you know your stuff. She will give 2 page papers if no one in the class understands something. The textbook is used for the entire class. Will work with you somewhat. Workload is 90% reading and 10% assignments. Do read the syllabus and ask questions as soon as a due date starts to creep up, if not sooner.
It is a lot of work, but a good grade is certainly do-able. She is passionate about the subject and teaching. I would take her again.
Took this as a 6 week summer class and it consumed my summer! Assignments are lengthy, reading is voluminous, and tests are difficult even though they are partly multiple choice. I came away exhausted but with a greater appreciation for the subject. If you're looking for an easy "A" or "B", this is not the professor for you!
AVIOD AT ALL COSTS. Horrible teacher with no compassion for students. Ridiculously difficult course. Do NOT take.
Begin the writing assignment as soon as possible. The tests are in a define terms, short essay, long essay format that leaves no room for BSing your way through them, and she will grade properly. Difficult class, but passable. Read and study. She will work with you ask if you need help.
If you are not interested in political science, do NOT take this class. You have to be very serious about this class or you will fail. Its very difficult. There is 1 long paper about 2 people in the house and another short reflection paper. The tests are 8 definitionexplain and 2 essays that you have to complete in 50 minutes
Toke her for the Spring of 2015 . Worst class ever !! I won't take her again . She expected note cards everyday that you see her & theirs 2 papers that's are due one is almost 12 pages and other is about 4. Her test are crazy hard . If you don't study you won't past! I will never take her again worst teacher
Took her for an American Government online class. Worst decision ever for a summer class. Expect to be consumed by the long and boring readings, tough discussion board questions, and lengthy tests. This class is NOT for someone who wants to knock out some Gen Ed's over the summer. Too tough.
if you are not interested in politics i would not suggest taking this for a summer course. the past 6 weeks have been time consuming and difficult. the prof. does help you if u ask and she is very sweet, but there are many essays and discussion boards are very difficult. i did learn a lot but i would not recommend for a summer course
i just finished this 6 week summer course, and it was honestly the most time consuming class i ever took. the professor is extremely picky when it comes to essays and grading. and the discussion boards are very difficult. if u don't need this course don't take it. one of the most boringstressful classes.
Overall, she is a fun and enthusiastic person. However, for a professor, she is honestly really tough. Her tests are really intense if she doesn't give you a study guide. In my class, she punished the WHOLE class for those who never read, which was so unfair for those who have. Tough grader, really picky with what she wants, & gets distracted a lot
First of all, she is a great professor! She knows her material and she will teach you so much about political science it's awesome! Her classes are never boring because she is always enthusiastic about the material she is teaching. Yes her class is hard, but come on people school is hard period. If you don't like to study, then school is not for you
So damn loud its ridiculous
She treats students like they are children. Don't ask questions or you will be made to feel stupid! She assigns a huge amount of homework and papers. I've never written or read so much in my entire life. (And I'm an avid reader.) I found her very hard and also condescending to students. I was too scared to ask any questions all semester.
On line. 3 papers; discussion board (2x/wk) plus midterm & final! Papers & DB ALL FORM! Loose more points 4 not following PICAYUNE rules & deadlines than u can get for doing a good job. Won't know what a good job is if UR not a mind reader. NO FEEDBACK PERIOD! Tests: 50% picayune MC. 50% broad essays. Need journal length answers but no time!
Requirements: 2 discussion brd posts/wk; one 2 pg (dbl. space) & three 5 pg papers; Midterm & final: 50% MC (memorize textbk!)and 50% essay. Follow directions exactly. Meet deadlines. Quality less important. Form over substance. Directions for papers longer than page limits BUT don't exceed page limits! No feedback on assignment or test grades!
Jodi is a VERY difficult professor. If you have a true interest in Govt, take this course. Its not a "gimmie". You will have to read, understand, and know your sh*t. Tough, sarcastic, and funny. Because I want to teach history and social studies, this class was very important. Harder than any professor I have had at WCU, but again you will learn.
Professor Empol is very knowledgable about government and politics. Her lectures often include stories from her time in Washington, DC. Attendance is very important! She expects a lot from her students. Reading the textbook is not mandatory, however it will help you do well in class. If you're looking for an easy A, this is not the prof. for you.
Wastes half the class talking about nonsense. easily the worst teacher that i have ever had
Ridiculous amount of work for a 6 week course, you can spend an enormous amount of time studying and put all you effort and still come out with disappointing grade. Avoid this professor at all costs.
Ms. Empol is a super cool teacher - if you get on her good side, you're good to go. POL101 only had 2 tests and 2 papers and (including participation) were the only grades in the entire course. No homework at all, and she curves the tests. The course was cake, just don't miss class (you can only miss twice).
Dont miss class, try your hardest, visit her on office hours and put forth the effort! If you do the above, you will excel! She has a big personality, her lectures are amazing and will keep you interested! I would absolutely take her again! Also, she DOESNT play favorites, if you work your tail off, your good, if not good luck!
She is a tough teacher because compared to 99% of other government and political science teachers she actually has worked for the government for a long time so she knows whats up. She is one of the first teachers I really got to know well and my recommendation is read, attention to detail on all work, do the extra credit and you will survive!
Such a bad experience Im rating it twice. I didnt take an Honors level class this is just intro to political science and there is way too much work. On top of taking other classes and having a job this is terrible I hated it
Worst Professor to ever exist.
Professor Empol is really hard, but if you are willing to put in the work you will succeed. It is all about time managment and doing what is on the sylabus. She knows what she is talking about because she worked in government and she has some funny stories to tell too. As a person she is great, but she will fail you if you are lazy and don't work.
If you turn up & do your work you'll be fine, but don't expect to learn much. She gets mad at her own slow progress & skips ahead. Gets really basic things wrong a lot. Also once said "anarchy sounds nice but nobody has any answers". I'm not an anarchist but can think of Bakunin, Proudhon, Goldman. I'd expect a polisci prof to know them too.
Currently in her class, and she challenges me. I love this class. She has real life experience in the curriculum she is teaching. If you read and do the work she meets you more than halfway. Take this class if you want to learn about government.
Only about 10 graded assignments throughout the semester including midterm and final. Start your papers early. Read the book. Take ample notes, she's very lecture heavy. GO TO OFFICE HOURS! Seems like a hard ass, but she's actually super nice. Thorough grader and sticks to syllabus/schedule.
She is hilarious and she teaches. If you like the government you have to take this course. The perfect class to get you ready for university, and she will answer any questions you have.
Worst poli sci professor! She is bitter and childish and does not know how to control a classroom. She yells when she speaks and sometimes even forgets what she is lecturing. She made fun of a student in the class; she assigned the worst possible textbook for an introduction class, and her papers are stupidly long for an intro course! Do not take!!
I learned a lot in this class with all of the reading required. Jodi is funny and she answers emails quickly. The grading criteria was very clear in the syllabus and in her rubrics, but she does not give good feedback on papers. There were many errors in her grading when I asked her to mark my paper. If she gives you feedback, check it.
I scratch my head and wonder why I am giving her a 4. She is not that bad but when a 100 level class ends up writing an 18 1/2 page paper ( part 1&2 government research assignment) is ridiculous. That is a little extreme compared to my English class in which I think I wrote that many pages for 101 & 102. Cmon Jodi, this isn't an English class.
PLEASE LISTEN TO ME: DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! Jodi Empol is the worst professor I have had thus far. TAKES FOREVER TO GRADE ASSIGNMENTS. Only 400 points for the course. Tests feel designed to trick you. Unnecessarily harsh grader, claims to give feedback but I can never see it. Posts "lecture" powerpoints with few words. SHOULD NOT BE TEACHING.
(cont.) I used to think I wanted to study PoliSci but after her? I have some serious rethinking to do. Disappointing grade for all of the work I put in. I'm not a lazy student-far from it- she doesn't make any of her expectations clear, slow to respond to emails and should not be allowed to "teach" online. She does not care about her online classes
Professor Empol-Schwartz was a great teacher.
Not going to lie, first day of summer class and Im a bit nervous. This is a 6 week online course. Each week requires 3 chapters, there are two tests (midterm and final, 20% each), a mega project 40%, and DB 20%. Graded by few and can easily mess up and fail. Be warn, don't take another class, might be too stressful. Class also started 2 days late
You are graded by 4 things (2 tests, DB, and project) that one little mess up gets you failing. She seems nice, but she is a tough grader and her tests aren't open book/notes and her wording on tests isn't always straight (50 multi, isn't bad, but when u have 60mins, you have to rush). Suppose to be an intro, feels like an expert class. RUN
Super hard class for an intro class. I'm glad to hear that she turned her major essay project into a presentation, made things a bit easier, but still was not an easy class at all. A ton of researching and reading. Very strick at grading. Wrote a 4-page review of what we did wrong for our one-paragraph DB response. Emailing was difficult/ nonsense
Just, no. way too much work/effort for an intro class. Do yourself a favor and avoid like the plague if possible.
As long as you pay attention and take notes, you will pass. Her lectures can be all over the place but the 2 tests she gives are on stuff from the textbook and word of mouth, which she gives a study guide. The end of semester presentation is super easy as well. Hard to access outside of class & is super sarcastic and condescending sometimes though
Her teaching is all over the place, she rarely sticks to the syllabus. Her lectures are just her reading from her notes and the class is very disorganized compared to other classes that I have taken. This class requires a lot for an intro course. I would not want to take her class again if i have to take this class again give me a different profess
I took her government course online and I have never been more frustrated. I have worked diligently in order to get good grades yet she is beyond a tough grader. She is condescending when responding to emails for help and sometimes doesn't even respond. Avoid her class... although I've been told there isn't another instructor for this class.
She knows the material very well and is clearly passionate about the subject. She does tend to talk a little fast which makes taking notes a little difficult but there is a lot of material to squeeze into one semester. Her tests are based on the book as well as her lectures, pay attention, take notes and read the study guides.
Had her Spring semester 2019. At first I didnt like her and found her class difficult but over the course she really did grow on me. Shes just passionate about what she teaches and is pretty open about anything, you just have to get to know her. Her voice is really loud but she is really nice, she just doesnt take crap from anyone.
The first month or two I felt stressed because I had thought that my notes were not sufficient enough--this was mainly due to the fact that she spoke quite fast. Yet towards the end, you get to see her true character and realize that she is there to help. She is truly both helpful and kind (and she answers emails quite quickly! Even late at night).
She is a very kind person, but has very high (almost unrealistic) expectations of her students. Expect to work very hard and get very little for your efforts. I did pass with an A, but it was nearly impossible and I had to be in constant contact with her for clarity. Be ready for a graduate level course load, not a 100 level course load.
Alright, I wont lie. The comments made me TERRIFIED to take American Government. I am a high school senior and I do dual enrollment so one of the courses I have to take is gov. But honestly, its not hard at all. Im an average honors high school student and I managed the class fine. Its all about applying yourself and actually doing the work.
If you have a problem with sarcasm, dont take her. Shes great at providing resources and extensive lectures. Hilarious. There is textbook reading with long chapters so get ready to work for it. If things get rushed, prepare to be learning a chapter a class. The final project is quite large so start it early. Tends to change syllabus a lot.
She is SO RUDE! The assignments are clearly written and not at all difficult we have a midterm coming up, a project and a final. But when I email her questions she is short, rude, and condescending. She mades comments after she grades and if you email her about it she will say its in the syllabus but it clearly isn't.
This was one of the worst teachers Ive ever had in my entire life! Do not take her.
Really harsh grader for an entry level class. Very rude and not easily accessible. Avoid this professor at all costs and save your money.
I am sure that she is probably a good professor outside of online lectures. However she does not play around when it comes to grading. Her work load is average but the material is extremely heavy. I enjoy presentations as well but the grade rubric is like nothing that I have ever seen before (massive). In addition, she is jumpy with lecturing. 4/10
Save your money. Go for a better professor. In the middle of a pandemic where everyone is struggling she makes your life so much harder. She is not easily accessible, does not provide clear directions, takes a million points off and can be rude during class. She only allows you to ask questions once and thats it.
Do not take this class if you do not have to. This is my worst experience with a professor so far. This class is nearly impossible to succeed in, she is condescending, rude, and seems as though she does not want her students to succeed. She does not answer emails, she does not explain assignments clearly, and she belittles you. BEWARE.
The hardest professor Ive had so far at MCCC. Even though we are in a pandemic, she makes life even harder by not only being inconsiderate and condescending but also not explaining assignments that are a BIG chunk of the grade. She clearly lacks the empathy many students need at this time. I highly recommend NOT taking any class she teaches.
Workload is fine but grading is strange & unclear. I've had easier time getting A's for intro class at a 4 year college than her. Professor is also condescending, inaccessible, and curt by email which is main form of communication. She also seems to hold herself in high regard for a community college prof., needs to bring herself down a notch.
I have two words to describe my experience in this class, never again. The work load is not intense whatsoever, but the grading is borderline ruthless. In the midst of a global pandemic, that we are all going through, you would think there would be a sense of understanding, no is the answer to that. Just do not take this class, that's all I can say
this class was one of the most stressful classes ive ever taken, and being in the midst of a pandemic and working retail does not help either. The 7 week rushed course is way too hard to stay on top of if you're even the slightest bit of a procrastinator, and the grading system is one of the hardest ones ive ever experienced. save yourself.
Prof Empol-Shwartz didnt teach me a thing for this online course. She graded my assignments with no remorse or criticism. I put so much work in to receive terrible grades. On my last project she gave me a grade well over 100% to boost my d- to an a+ just to make herself look like a real teacher. I don't recommend. She doesnt care ab her students
She will make you stress right off the first assignment. There are only 4 major assignments and attendance matters. She grades like your going for your masters and then the last assignment she grades, she will give you basically 100% but the weeks of stress and anxiety does not make up for it. Taken chances with this Prof.
Jodi was super fun in class and always kept the lectures interesting. Yes, her papers were long and difficult, but since it is a government class that's to be expected. Be warned though, she takes pains to put questions on her test from the textbook so not mentioned in class. So read the textbook!
This is one of the hardest classes I have ever taken, simply due to the grading methods. I put in my 100% on assignments, complete them exactly as described, then receive a bad grade. BEWARE. You can try as hard as possible in this class just to fail. I felt like I was in med school by the way this class was graded. And the professor is of no help.
Jodi has one of the best personalities, she genuinely cares about her students a lot. I mean A LOT. If you're struggling just go to her office hours, she loves students with initiative & willingness to learn. She is one of the only history teacher who acknowledges how white-washed the conventional/traditional way of learning politics. I love her!!
Does not respond to emails. If she doesnt like you, you will know. My answers would be basically the same as my classmates and she would still give me a worse grade. I had a 45% most of the semester. I emailed her asking what I could do and received no response all semester. I am a straight A student this is the only C I have ever received.
Professor Empol was definitely one of my least favorites ive had so far. I accidentally turned in the contractual agreement using the wrong source and she gave me a 0. I ended up emailing her 8 times waiting for an answer and had to get her boss involved to get my grade fixed. She was very tough on the students she did not like.
I literally want to cry. I can't drop this class and this teacher is so difficult. She's rude. She doesn't answer emails and blames you if your email doesn't get seen. She's unprofessional. Just a mess and the amount of work she expects done in six weeks is insanity. Don't take her if you don't have to!
I have not had a worse teacher in my entire academic career. She's unreasonable. She has all these rules on being appropriate, yet she writes an entire novel about herself and talks about how much money she paid on her student loans. That's appropriate? Ridiculous. Worst class ever. I wish I could drop this class.
Professor Empol-Schwartz is one of the fairest teachers I have ever met. She asks for a lot and holds a very high standard, but she also gives you every single piece of information you need for success in her class. If you don't do well with her, it's on you. Period. She is passionate about political science and works extremely hard to equip you.
She literally outlines everything for you. All you have to do is follow the guidelines, all of them. Her syllabus and the projects are very clear cut. Just follow the guidelines & you'll do great. If you have an issue with references and formats, use a website to help you (scribbr). It saved my life for her class. Formatting is everything.
If you can take any other professor please do. She doesn't answer emails, she's extremely biased, and her lectures/disc boards do not correlate with the book at all. I was given a 2/5 on all her disc boards because my opinion did not match up with hers. My favorite feedback that I got from her was that the constitution is not a credible source. Run
This professor is fine, but there are flaws with her class criteria. If you take this class, make sure you meet with her during office hours to make sure you don't lose points on the last two projects. These projects require more work than they should be. Also didn't agree with bringing in speakers that all affiliated with the same political party.
Very hard class. Don't worry if you start out slow like I did. I flopped my midterm completely and still managed to get a B+ almost an A because of the projects at the end of the semester. Grading is weighed very heavily, so do the work like you care. Participation and attendance is crucial or your grade will drop so fast. Not many assignments.
Unfairly tough grading. She is very wordy, so there is no clear instructions on assignments. If you want no chance of getting an A, then this professor is for you.
Professor Empol-Schwartz is a very caring and fun professor to have. Although, she can be very lecture-heavy, give tough assignments, and her class can feel quite overwhelming. It is crucial that you start her more significant assignments earlier and make an attempt not to procrastinate because it can pile up very quickly. Meet with her if needed.
She's old school in terms of grading and tells it like it is so don't slack off or you'll be behind. very cool teacher and kind of funny sometimes you can tell she's an expert in her field I mean she literally worked in DC soooo
They will take no excuses for anything going on in your life- even death. Your paper better be on time.
someone on the review said she takes no excuses- even death.i had a death in my family the night before an exam. the next day i took the exam got and F, then told her after about what happened. She decided to get rid of the F and give me my midterm grade (and A) she was very understanding. She is also very helpful if u utilize her office hours.
I went in thinking this class was going to be hard which it was but once I expressed how I struggled and ask for help she really worked with me. I did bad on the midterm but did good on the final so that helped my grade. She helps anyone that shows up to class and does the readings. If you don't read or take notes then good luck b/c you will fail.
She is over qualified for the job. She has an extensive background working in DC which means she's giving you the best, but also a lot. If you like learning about government, this is the class for you. Her class is lecture heavy and has multiple week long projects that may give you an anxiety attack from looking at the syllabus.
Be prepared to work hard. You must show up to class and you must take good notes. She moves fairly fast during her lectures. If you get behind, you are in trouble. She will work with you, but you must get on your assignments early because they are A LOT of work and you will probably need to utilize her office hours to do well on them.
Do NOT take her online course unless you want to be loaded with homework, get instructions that are extremely unclear on assessments, and most likely despite your best efforts. No absences are excused, no assignment is excused and she will throw in her own rules that are not communicated to the class. Only finished this class because I paid for it.
Used to work in DC, surprisingly neutral despite her background. Probably one of if not the best educator I've worked with.
Although she was good at teaching in person but once she switch to online suck so bad I didn't even finish writing my notes down she would move on so fast, and all the assignments or homework would be due every week including quizzes or tests I wouldn't recommend taking her hoping to take a different Pol professor in the future.
The syllabus is unclear and there are inconsistencies regarding quizzes & tests. The vast majority of the work is automated. This class is text book heavy with lectures. This causes quizzes and majors tests to have varying writing styles which proves difficult. Professor is also quick to suggest dropping course and lacked simple greetings.
Has a lot of mood swings. Upset when students aren't participating. One class she will be nice and understanding and then the next she will be intense and randomly call on people. Expects you to answer right away. Will mark you absent if you do not participate when called on. All attendence matters. Will give you anxiety from intesity.
Lecture and online textbook reading heavy. She gets really annoyed if people don't respond to her questions during her lectures. Will cold call you and mark you absent if you're late or not responding. She can be very aggressive or kind depending on her mood that day. If you meet with her outside of class to work on your stuff she's more pleasant.
If you are taking this professor during a summer or winter term, DO NOT DO IT. She definitely did not edit this course at all to fit into an accelerated term; with the amount of work we have to do each week, it seems like she took a semester's worth of work and information and shoved it into a 6-week curriculum. She's awful.
Her class Blows.
Heavy grader
Be prepare to take her class she's not helpful at all I had to withdrawal from her I couldn't stand her as she was so annoying I didn't like her at all she was very rude to me and disrespect me twice already overall not great I would never take her again and gives out lots of works and she would move real fast with slides so goodluck with her
No just no she's not good at her job please find a better political science professor
Not good feedback and not good class structure. I got a B on a project I worked so hard on but got no feedback whatsoever except for a sheet sent to everyone with bullets on what meant what. Never contacted with prof.
She's the worst professor I ever had she gives no feedback on assignments never answers emails always would get mad if no one answers the questions and would not help with students as well if you said the first time you would help students then why aren't you helping us pass!?
She's not that good her lectures are so boring nobody in the class knows what's going on and to make it worse she's tough on grading even the smallest mistake you make on anything she'll take so many points off and she's not helpful at all and will waste your time avoid her.
The professor reminds me of the math professor I took Richard Kern not helpful at all her grading system is worst I've ever seen not to mention she will not help you pass and will make you fail the worst part of her she's not nice at all she's very rude and her comparing to Kern is worse they both can't teach avoid her and kern at all cost.
I really hate her videos they take very long to get to get to the point where it's so useless to know. Every week you would get an assignment that would either be due by Saturday or Sunday at 11:59 pm if you miss the assignment she will not have you turn in. And her congressional project is a joke I got a 250 and she said I made errors AVOID HER!!!
I have never felt so defeated in my life. I tried so hard in her class and it's impossible to catch up to all the assignments and according to her I cheated on a test which I study for 5 hours and did so good and accused me of cheated and for the congressional project where she said I didn't give enough work DONT TAKE HER SHE WILL RUIN YOU ALIVE!!!
While she is a tough grader with enough effort you should be able to get a good grade in her class. Her weekly discussion boards are basically essays and finding a citation for her topic can sometimes be very difficult. Overall she's a very kind person she's just a bit hard to reach through e-mail during online classes.
Never again 0/10.
I'd rate all the courses I took with her a 1/10 never had a teacher that was worse than her grading is the worst lectures have been tough and I took almost all her political science classes and pass her with at least a B or A- and this is my first time dropping her course I email her so many times as I won't get a response from her and she's rude.
She's not that good at explaining her assignments at all her the way how she explains is like “blah blah blah blah” in that way I even try to reach out to her just for her not to answer back and in class lectures she's rude all the time not even nice and would call out on people that aren't listening or just being quiet I would not take her again.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS!! Her 14-week political124 class is no joke where do I begin with her lectures are really fast all assignments are due either Tuesday or Thursday test and quizzes are really tough no joke serious class and contacting her is hard she will not respond at all and in class is rude and calls out people!!
Worst political science professor ever she made the entire class a nightmare everything in her lectures aren't the same on the quiz and tests her grading is heavier than any professor I've seen her project is a lot of points waste of time and money and I stop showing up to her class with the last few days of the semester being over.
OMG PLEASE MONTCO FIRE HER FIRE HER ASAP!!!! WHY IS SHE STILL HERE SHES THE WORST PROFESSOR I EVER HAD PLEASE MONTCO DO SOMETHING WITH HER GET HER OUT OF MONTCO SHE CAN'T TEACH MAKES THE CLASS SO SO SO MISERABLE MY HAIR KEEPS FALLING SO MUCH BECAUSE OF HER LITERALLY FIND A DIFFERENT POLITICAL PROFESSOR AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HER
Honestly, you shouldn't get anything lower than like a B in her POL101 class if you are trying. I put very minimal effort into her work and still finished with a decent grade. I will say, she's a very blunt teacher; if you can't handle that, then don't take her. Her feedback is super blunt and might feel mean the first time, but it's very clear.
Overall decent professor. If you stay on top of your work and attend the classes you can get a decent grade. Projects come with a strict rubric but if you follow it exactly you can get a good grade.
Class itself can be difficult at times but she does her best to help you succeed. I found her lectures very interesting and her very likable as a person. One time I had a meeting with her in her office to go over a assignment and just broke down because i had so much going on in my personal life she stayed with me and talked to me and was very kind
Rudest professor ever her online class is a joke and to her saying if we need help she does not help to me I email her so many times as I would never get a respond back from her and when there's was this midterm I had to do I turn it in a few minutes late she give me a 0 witch drop my grade from an A to a D thanks to her I'm dropping her.
She is so unprofessional and rude all the time I wouldn't recommend her for any political class as she's very progressive as well it's finally that time that Montco gets a new professor she needs to retired at this point honestly cause thanks to her I'm switching my major to a different one
Requires a textbook that needs an access code to take the quizzes. Book has to be brand new to get the access code. I had to buy the book 3 times before I got a code as they are not guaranteed.
Bad bad bad so bad.
Overall pretty good. I will say that she needs better rubrics and clear grading because it isn't clear.
Bad terrible does not respond to her emails, gives rude feedback lots of homework terrible rubic as well doesn't explain it well and is tough on grading worst professor ever also I requested an extension on a test and she never got back so I will never ever take her.
Very tough on grading and her Rubric does not make sense, lectures are pointless teach yourself if you can she doesn't teach very well you'll have to teach yourself 80% of the time gets back to emails very late or won't respond to them would not recommend this class for any future students.
She is completely different in person. She moves very quickly, going through a chapter in a class or a week. You're expected to read and take notes before each class. She asks questions on the material throughout class. However, if you have any issues, feel free to talk to her; she is very friendly.
Horrible professor she gives out so much work and quizzes as well exams are the toughest took her for online course yea it's not going well teach yourself honestly she doesn't explain things well in her video and would never respond to emails also aggressive feed back as well the worst class I ever took cause she doesn't teach well
She's Meh I wish there was better options and idc what anyone says she's not bad but she gives out lots of work and would throw a tantrum if nobody doesn't ask questions at all not only attendance is mandatory if you miss a class it'll be awful to stay ahead and if you don't take notes you'll be far behind I would not recommend her at all.
