Very thorough teacher! She made class very fun, yet conveyed lectures very well. It was a fun class that helped me grow as an individual.

She made class fun and at the same time easy to learn. It's very hard for me to talk in front of people. Professor Rives made it almost easy. And she's hot.

Do not take this class unless you want to hear about jodi's life and her family, because that is all she talks about. the class is easy because you never do anything but listen to her talk (and she loves to hear herslef talk).

I can now speak in front of a class without urinating in my pants. Thank you Mrs. Rives. And thank you for being hot.

Had her for public speaking, very helpful and knowledgable. Never condescending or negative. She made the environment very relaxing and inviting. Take her if you want to have a laid back and clear veiw of public speaking.

Hot? Subject to interpretation. Self-absorbed? Perhaps. Idiot? Multiple college degrees might suggest not. Mature, intelligent, and brave enough to directly address someone with whom she disagrees? Believe it.

Whoever wrote the comment about Jodi being an idiot is defiately a dumbass themselves!!! Jodi is the funniest, prettiest, coolest teacher i have ever had in my life...so to anyone out there who would like to ENJOY going to class, take Jodi Rives's Speech class. She's AWESOME!!

Jodi Rives is such a great teacher. At first I was scared to death to take this class, and give speeches in front of everyone, but Jodi has helped me, to the point that i am not nearly as nervous as i used to be. Plus, she makes me look forward to the class by making class fun and exciting with her high energy and humor. I definately recommend her

She will blabber all class about her personal life and will often get nothing done. Is easily distracted with lectures. Only 4 speeches due all year, she grades them hard though. Class is rather open for random discutions, you will get to know your class mates really good. Nice lady. Bad teacher. Easy class. Don't take speech 4, this one is easier!

Jodi is the coolest ever! Makes it easy to speak and is always there to help you. Yes, she does get off track...just sit up front and enjoy the fun. Easy class and makes speech enjoyable.

if you want an easy class, take her because half the time she cancles class and the other half she talks the whole time about her personal life. you dont really learn much.

She's a pretty good teacher, I took a 2 hour night class, and the majority of the class was spent listening to her crazy stories that were usually unrelated to the class, there is four speeches 2 easy papers and she gives you extra credit opprotunities. Overall it's an easy class.

Kinda controversial class for speech. Jodi is extremely liberal minded, if you get offended by hearing pres bush and republicans bashed, dont take this class. In general pretty easy as long as you show up and give the speeches. Jodi does talk about a lot of personal things but they are pretty interesting and funny.

If you don't think outside the box DO NOT take this class! There is much time that to some, would be "wasted" but I loved every minute if it...very random class...GREAT!

I am taking this class for winter intersession. Very fast passed. But I like the class. Jodi is a crack up. Good teacher, made things as easy as can be, and still teach you something. Standing in front of a group and talking is hard for me. But she made it a bit more comfortable.

I LOVED this class! She made it way better than it would have been with another teacher. She DOES have a lot of personal stories, but she's hilarious and when you cut right down to it, she teaches what is needed to pass with a good grade. If you don't like lotsa stories, sometimes irrelevant-not recommended. Otherwise- HIGHLY Recommended.

Group discussion really fun, easy class. Jodi is very nice and funny! I would recommend this class to anyone! Especially if you don't want to take public speaking.

She is very opinionated, lots of stories. I took it over summer and you spend a lot of time with her and other students so you get to know everyone well, quite a few international students, I LOVED this part, very diverse class. You have to be open-minded or you'll be offended. If you need public speaking, it was fun and a easy A.

She is so cool and fun I highly recommend taking her class, you?ll rarely be bored.

This class is way more work than it should be. Great professor who knows what she is talking about, she goes off on stories to explain concepts and just to use up time. If you have to take this class I would recommend that you take it with this professor.

If you hate speaking in public take this class, she makes p.s. very manageable. In fact you may have to fight for a chance to say anything in the class. Drink energy drinks before class to keep up with her. The semester could have been completed in one class, the rest of the time is filled with personal stories and opinions. She is funny tho.

This class is great if you are looking for an easy A. However, she hates America and makes it known. She also thinks that college students are idiots and she is a very opinionated liberal. Also, you mainly spend 3 hours a day listening to her stories and opinions, don't expect to leave the class with any new found knowledge.

She is such an awesome teacher, I wouldn't take this class with anyone else. The 3 hour class goes by quickly with her funny stories and I believe she would have a wonderful career in stand up comedy. Do your work and show up to class and you'll get an A.

Jodi is a nice and very funny person. She keeps the class entertained and is very clear with her instructions. She tells a bunch of entertaining stories, unfortunately they literally take up half of the 3 hour class where we could be doing something productive.

Jodi caught me off guard at first but then he grew on me. She taught me to breathe and it wasn't so bad. She is a hilarious teacher and she has great jokes and you laugh all the time. Take the summer class and get it out of the way. Jodi is by far my best teacher ever!!!!

Jodi is awesome. I took her class over the Summer and it was a lot of fun. Group activities got you warmed up to all of the people in class. Jodi does talk about her family a lot but that is so you are familiar with her and feel comfortable speaking. Jodi was a blast. I still keep in contact with her on my FaceBook. She is a friend for life!

Jodi's a great teacher. The class consists of 4 presentations, lecture, note taking, a few other easy assignments. Class activities make the class fun like musical chairs. I generally don't like speaking in public, but was comfortable in her class and found that it helped me. She is also really funny and tells stories to relate during lecture.

Jodi is a really good instructor. She made the class fun and interesting with the games we played. She totally helped me to get out of myself and learn to speak up for a cause!! he speech format is something I am already using in other aspects of my life. AWESOME Teacher!!She cares about her students!!

Jodi is awesome! She is very liberal and is a bit one-sided. There were a few heated debates in our class - as there should be in a college atmosphere. Don't buy the textbook - you don't use it. Jodi made class fun and interesting, she's like a cool aunt to everyone. take this class if you can!!

Jodi is the most amazing professor EVER! I cannot stress enough how awesome she is. Yes, she does have extremely liberal views, but she also makes it heard that she does not judge or grade anyone on their own personal views. She gets to the essence of what public speaking is and really makes it an enjoyable learning experience. Must Have!

Jodi's great. But be forewarned, if you don't pay attention, you're going to get it. She goes over everything about 5 times because of aforementioned reason. Every assignment is outlined in the syllabus and she gives out deadlines as you go along for each assignment. I would DEFINITELY take another class with her, again.

If you show up and participate, you will do fine in her class. She's a great teacher. She takes her time explaining things and will do whatever it takes to ensure every one is grasping the concepts. Everything is explained in great detail. She always makes herself available for questions and is very approachable. She's also hilarious!

Small group communication can be a hard class because you are relying on other people for a grade but Jodi makes it such a great class. Her expectations are crystal clear, if you do the work and follow the format, it is impossible to fail. quizzes are easy and straight from the lecture and the midterm as well.

Amazing teacher who is very motivational. This class is so easy but people hate it because they don't want to do work. It should be easy to get an A because the homework assignments are points that are easy to get. How hard is it to do an outline and turn it in for points? I loved the opportunity to share my views.

The class was fine and easy if you do all the speeches. Didn't learn as much as you should. She talks way too much about herself and didn't really lecture. It's really easy to get A, especially if you are just trying to get public speaking over with.

Jodi has lots of stories, very opinionated, she cares & understands college student struggles. If you are petrified about public speaking class, Jodi is VERY accommodating. Take good notes, book is optional, you will talk to everyone in class at least once. Jodi makes this class as stress free as possible. Be open minded and you will enjoy her.

Taking her class was a treat

Jodi is an amazing instructor. I would gladly take classes with her again. If you want to pass, though, you need to actually do your assigned work and read the syllabus.

Over winter break i took her public speaking class and i loved it! She does talk about herself alot but i thought her stories were super entertaing and helped the long days go by fast. I feel i'm a much more confident public speaker now and would defintly take another class by her again.

Read the syllabus. Follow directions. Don't be an idiot. Jodi is an amazing orator. She is entertainment. She has this magical ability to take ANY type of human, no matter how shy or antisocial, and via goofy "get to know your neighbor" exercises, turn them into public speakers. You will leave this class sad that it's over, and with new friends.

Awesome instructor! Totally recommend this class! Beware it's called GROUP communications for a reason, you have to make time to meet with your group. So if you have commitment issues and aren't a team player, don't take this class! Attendance is mandatory! But, she lets you make up the days you missed!

I really loved Jodi's public speaking class which I took it over the summer. We had 3 formal speeches which were easy, just remember "structure will save you where style will not". Midterm and final were also easy breezy. Jodi is such a nice person and just wants to help her students become comfortable speaking in front of others.

I took Jodi's public speaking class over the summer. Lots of homework, but the class was very fun and engaging. I don't remember opening the book even once, so buy at your risk. Great teacher, great class, lots of fun.

Jodi doesn't use canvas/blackboard so it's tough to know your grade throughout the semester until the end. She is very very funny and seems to care a lot about the class. Make sure you show up to classes and give all the speeches. Get ready to get out of your comfort zone!

Jodi was an incredible professor. She made it feel less like a scary speech class. Her personality lightened things up. Assignments were fairly simple & if you follow her outline(s) you can be weeks ahead of class. No textbook. 3 main speeches in small cohorts. This class was a palate cleanser in between my other classes. I had a great time.
