Dr. Lyon is amazing. If you have to take a Religion class, take Dr. Lyon. She is helpful, fun, and thought-provoking. Plus, if you do a decent amount of work, it is fairly easy to get a good grade.
There is a reading to do for every class and often a quiz. Several writing assignments are do throughout the semester. I really enjoy the classes that I have had with Dr. Lyon. I have learned alot about theology in her classes.
Dr. Lyon is a gift to the Religion Department. I really enjoyed her thought provoking and quirky way of teaching.
LOVE her and LOVED this class. If you have take a class to fill your franklin FA/Phil/Reli requirement, take a religion with her. She is hilarious and very good at lecturing and facilitating discussion. Best elective experience ever.
Dr. Lyon is awesome, she's very nice and has a deep love for her subject. This class is very interesting and rather easy.
Dr. Lyon was great. She had very clear and consistent outlines/ notes and she tried each day to enliven the class and share funny/ interesting events. She is a great professor and I would highly recommend taking her class.
Dr. Lyon is amazing. Her teaching style is very engaging and she really draws you in to the information. There was some light reading and a quiz every week, but other than that no homework. Her tests are straight forward and from the notes, but the notes aren't online so attendance is mandatory. Overall a great experience!!
She is a great teacher. She makes class and the material very enjoyable. You have breakout sessions where you discuss the readings for each week but they are not a big part of the test. She is very helpful and fun.
Dr. Lyon is a very nice person and an excellent professor! She's engaging, understanding, and fun, and her class is easy but interesting.
If you're looking for a religion class, take Dr. Lyon! She is amazing at teaching all perspectives and inducing really interesting conversation. She will challenge you to think about why things are the way you believe. She is really friendly and fun, too! Do the readings, because there are quizzes which are basically 1 paragraph summaries.
Dr. Lyons is amazing!! She's super funny and so sweet. She tries to engage with students which is awesome. There's two tests, but she goes over the material super well. Attendance is mandatory, and there are quizzes at the beginning of class on readings (not difficult). Take her! She's the best, I'm not even joking.
An easy class overall. Reading is necessary for every class as she sometimes give quizzes, which are 1-2 paragraph summaries. Attendance is taken when she gives a quiz, which she decides by rolling a die. There were 2 tests (easy), and a religion-research presentation. She is a nice grader and very engaging.
It is obvious that Dr. Lyon puts a lot of effort into her class and tries to make it as entertaining as possible. Her lectures are interesting because she includes lots of visual aids and tells funny, relevant stories to keep her students' attention. Doesn't give out meaningless assignments. I definitely recommend her as an awesome professor!
She is really funny and down to earth! There are multiple reading reports due (1 pg, really easy A), the midterm is kinda hard, but the final is an easy 100. You can miss class, but you have to turn in your 1 pg reports and she takes attendance which affects participation. You can definitely get an A+ in this class. 10/10 great class!
Dr. Lyon is incredible! She knows her stuff, so she can make somewhat complex topics understandable & relatable. She does have reading assignments, but they're so easy & if you do them, you'll get credit. The tests were way tougher than I expected (I made a B on one & a C on the other, but I still came out with an A- in the class). Take this class!
Jodie is so funny! You can tell that she enjoys what she's teaching and knows her stuff too! However, I'd suggest trying to take her in a smaller class setting and not a lecture room of 150 students. That being said, I wouldn't let that detail stop you from taking her class. She's so helpful and willing to work with you!
She's really funny, good lectures, and even in a class with over 100 people she seemed like she cared. There is a lot of reading, and a lot of writing 2 page papers (by hand) over the readings. That was the bane of me. Otherwise, pretty easy class. I don't usually take notes, but found myself having to. Take notes and the tests will be easy.
Having Dr. Lyon makes the trek to class totally worth it. She doesn't use powerpoints, but rather writes her notes on the board which she believes to be more engaging (I agree). Grading is easy, but there is reading and a summary/analysis due before almost every class (which takes 30 minutes tops). Dr. Lyon genuinely loves this class, and it shows!
Dr. Lyon is a wonderful teacher. I enjoyed her class in that she really opens it up to a very open and heartfelt dialogue within the class. She does a great job in that she will let you know what she thinks on a topic, but will not teach it as cold hard fact. If you put in the work (and you should want to), then you will make a good grade.
Dr. Lyon is my favorite professor at UGA. She's an excellent teacher and a wonderful human. Take her if you have any opportunity!
Dr. Lyon is a great professor. She does require reading but it's nothing heavy. Assignments, midterm, and final are very easy if you just go to class and pay attention a little. Doesn't post notes online but not a heavy lecturer. Super funny and just a goofy lady with a warm personality and an interesting viewpoint
Sweet lady who really cared about the students. You do have to put in work to get an A, but it's reasonable. You'll read all the books you have to buy for 2003H, and you'll have a reading report due almost every day of which she grades 10. If you miss more than 4 classes she starts docking your letter grade. Midterm was harder than final.
She's really nice and makes class pretty interesting. As long as you take notes, this class should be an easy A.
Dr. Lyon is HILARIOUS and her lectures are always engaging. She really cares about her students and spends the first 10 minutes of each lecture asking us how life is going! Pretty easy class so long as you stay on top of the reading reports (due every day but really aren't that bad). 2 tests, a paper, and a presentation make up most of your grade.
Dr. Lyon is super caring and definitely makes you think. Lots of reading and writing responses but 9 times out of 10 they were interesting. Tests were super easy, and Dr. Lyon engaged students in her lectures so class wasn't too boring.
Dr. Lyon is one of my favorite professors that I've ever had. There are required readings that you must submit responses to for every class, but class time is fun and discussion based. Other than the readings, there were only two other assignments. Her class truly changed my perspective, and I would take her again 100%.
The best professor I have ever had, she sparked such an interest in religion for me which I never thought I'd have. She's fair, relatable, and wants you to succeed. This is my next semester after I took her class and I'm genuinely sad she can't teach all my classes. She makes the class fun and it feels like it broadened my life outlook as well.
Dr. Lyon is by far one of the best professors I've had so far. Her lectures are interesting and very important because her tests are based on the notes. Lots of reading with short response papers, but very do-able. Attendance is mandatory, most times she takes attendance via kahoot quizzes. If you put in the work, this class should be an easy A.
I loved taking Dr. Lyon's class! Her lectures are entertaining and I actually learn stuff inside of class. You have reading reports due to almost every class, and reading various texts, however, they are interesting. Grades are two tests, one project, and one essay, and the reading reports. Attendance is mandatory, but she doesn't always take it.
Dr. Lyon is a great professor. Most of her class is lecture-based but she tries to have fun and the lectures are actually really interesting. There's a decent sized reading 1-3 times a week though that you have to do a reading report on, so I wouldn't say the class is an easy A. The two tests were easy if you studied, and I never felt overwhelmed.
I really enjoyed this class. There was a lot of reading and it wasn't always super exciting, but Dr. Lyon always managed to make what seemed boring at home interesting in class. She's super knowledgeable and hilarious and sweet and I would definitely recommend her. She's also pretty accessible outside of class, which is always nice.
I always enjoyed going to Dr. Lyon's class and lectures. I found that I learned a lot from her and her class. The information was legitimately interesting and fascinating to me. The readings were well chosen as they were fun and very interesting. I'd definitely take this class again. I often woke up in the morning just because of it!
Dr. Lyon is one of my favorite professors at UGA. She clearly cares about her students and delivers very engaging, funny, and truly interesting lectures. Your grade is based on 2 tests, a paper, a presentation, and reading reports, but she gives clear guidelines and these aren't difficult if you put in effort. Take her if you have the chance!!!
Dr. Lyon is one of the best professors I've ever had. Her lectures are engaging and interesting; although sometimes we go over dark topics, she usually finds ways to make her lectures funny. Grades are two tests, a paper, a presentation, and a lot of reading reports. The readings are fascinating, but the reading reports are frequent and annoying.
Best prof I have ever had. HW heavy, lots of reading/essays assigned, but I hate reading and was actually interested in everything she assigned. She has her specific rules and syllabus makes her seem scary, but follow the rules and it will be the best class you will ever take. 10/10 is your religious or not the class is amazing and Jodie is amazing
One of my favorite classes. Dr. Lyon is super fun with the way she teaches and there is also breakout sessions with your TA once a week that are super interactive and helpful. She is very serious about attendance, but it's not a hard class to make it to. There's a good bit of homework, but it's not too difficult.
I LOVE DR. LYON!!!! Her lectures are so interesting and easy to follow. She's very passionate for the subject and for the success of her students. She does assign a reading and small "report" for every class, but they're easy readings and graded very easily as well. Tests are EASY as long as you show up to class. Definitely take Dr. Lyon.
I took RELI1003H with her. Dr. Lyon is seriously the best person ever. She asks everyone about their days and lives and genuinely cares. There's a little summary/reflection about the readings due before most classes, but as long as you do them and don't just bs it she'll give you a 100 for them. The tests are easy if you come to class & take notes.
I had a MWF, Friday being a break out with TA. Theres homework every few classes for a reading report based on reading assignments which aren't too bad but get a little tedious by the end of the semester. One presentation in breakout that's pretty easy and a short paper. Midterm is a little tricky and info heavy, but final is made easier.
Dr. Lyon is an extremely sarcastic professor. Even three weeks before classes ended she still hadn't uploaded any grades, and when she finally did she ended up grading her essays ridiculously hard - and for accuracy. Don't take her unless you are prepared for a boring lecture and LOTS of homework
Harsh grader. Boring lectures. Forced attendance (allowed 4 excused or unexcused) and if you miss more than that it takes off points from your final grade. Only grades random assignments. I was fooled by her ratings. Don't be fooled. Take a dif elective.
Mandatory attendance policy that she does not make known, two reading reports due each week (only 10 random are graded, none are dropped), and 2 5-7 page papers graded very harshly. All this paired with 3 total quiz grades (each only having 10 questions total) and the fact that grades are not entered until the penultimate week of class. Terrible.
Have reading reports due 1-3 times per week that took 30 min max. Grade is based on 1 presentation, 1 paper, reading reports, 2 tests, and attendance. Tests are EASY as long as you write down notes from the whiteboard. Sweet lady, highly recommend
There's a fair amount of reading and writing assignments but the materials and lectures make the class worth taking.
Dr. Lyon is an incredible teacher! Her rating should be a 5.0. Her grading criteria is given clearly at the beginning of the semester and she gives you times to meet with her throughout the semester to discuss your papers. She is very understanding, funny, and genuinely cares about her students. If you want a great prof. for religion, take her!!
Absolutely love her! This class was my second time with her. The only reason I marked her as a little difficult is the reading takes up a bunch of time. There are two reading assignments a week and a reading report for each, but the readings are super clear and the reports are not that difficult. Really approachable. Superb teaching skills.
Dr. Lyon is a great professor! Upper level religion courses are typically deep and complex, but she truly wants you to learn and understand the material. Also, she makes the classroom a fun environment and makes students want to go to her class.
I made a 98 in the class by doing the bare minimum. Attendance is mandatory, but if you show up to class and write down notes from the whiteboard you'll do fine. I studied maybe 2 hours max before each exam and got 100s. Everyday we spent the first 15 minutes of class going around and giving life updates. It was nice to have a professor care!
SOOO EASY! take this class im begging you. she makes it fun and easy and literally hands the exact info you will need for the test right to you. She writes everything you need to know from the lectures on the board as she goes. Legit copy what she writes, read over it the night before the test, and you'll most likely get a 100 lol. Lyon is great
Dr Lyon cares about her students and genuinely wants to get to know them. She had fun little attendance questions (like what's the weirdest dream you've had) the lectures are super simple and she reviews old contente every class. Show up and take a few notes. There are reading reports but very few of them were challenging and I usually enjoyed them
Dr. Lyons is an amazing professor ! I am a science major and took RELI 2003H to satisfy a requirement but I ended up really enjoying the class. She is very nice and considerate of her students and wants to get to know you which is really cool! Tests and projects are very straightforward and if you follow directions you can easily get an A.
I loved Dr. Lyon. She is so caring and understanding. Lectures are enjoyable and very clear. There are reading reports, but do not let that scare you away. They are easy (two paragraphs) and do not take much time. Other grades include a final paper and tests. If you put in effort, it is not hard to make an A.
Dr. Lyon is fantastic. I can't imagine having a better professor. She truly cares about you and asks how we are all doing at the beginning of every class. Test are easy, and reading reports aren't that difficult. Definitely take this class!! If you go to class and just write down what she writes on the white board, you will make an A in the class.
Dr. Lyon is an amazing professor who truly cares about her students! I LOVED my Religion class; I truly feel like I learned a lot about the problem of evil and did a decent amount of work while at the same time not being stressed at all and having fun. A great, fairly easy class. Would highly recommend for Franklin majors that need a Religion class
I have taken 3 of Dr. Lyon's classes (Intro to Religious Thought, Sex, Marriage and Christian Theology, and Reformation Theology). She is why I added a religion minor. Dr. Lyon is amazing- her lectures are engaging and she's so funny and kind. It's one of the classes that I truly enjoyed going to. I would 100% recommend taking her!!
I have repeatedly taken her classes because she is amazing. Whoever rates her low either lacks the work ethic to do two easy assignments per week, doesn't have enough sense to reach out to her if they are struggling, or perhaps doesn't like the fact that she makes the classroom a safe space for everyone. She is one of the best professors I've had.
Dr. Lyon is fantastic! She is super caring and understanding in the midst of a global pandemic. The amount of work expected was quite reasonable, but the only thing that I would say is don't expect her to grade things on time. Even with that aspect, she is super chill and cares about us a lot! She always asks if we are okay and is amazing!
Dr. Lyon is by far the most understanding professor I have had given the circumstances of the semester mid-pandemic. The workload is extremely manageable--reflection essays, readings, and quizzes that are all easy. She ultimately wants you to use the class to think critically about religion and discuss, so as long as you do that, you will do well.
Dr. Lyon is hands down the best professor at UGA. I was a religion minor and took 4 of her classes (1 intro, 3 upper). Yes you have to be prepared to work, but everything you do matters. The lectures are fascinating, she teaches you how to think for yourself, she cares about you as a person; she's BRILLIANT. top classes: sex class & popular Theol.
Dr. Lyon is an amazing professor. Some people may be hesitant to take a religion class, but she is respectful of every student's opinion. This class was a short class (19 days), which made it fast. Something was due every night at 11:59 PM. However, she made every assignment open, making it available to get ahead. I recommend her and her class.
I took this class online, and Dr. Lyon organized her class very well. She is very nice and her lectures are easy to follow. I felt that she delivered the content in a non-biased manner.
She is genuine, and truly cares for her students. I had a family tragedy happen while in her class, and she helped me not to fall behind. She is rare in that she doesn't solely tell you what to think, she teaches you how to think. She doesn't expect you to agree with her, only for you to have a thought-through, solid argument for why you don't.
I love professor Lyon! Shes so sweet. Turn youre work in on time and youll get an A. Im not religious, but I still feel like I got a lot out of her class. No tests, so this should be a stress free class. Take it!
I LOVE Dr. Lyon! She is so fun & caring. You only had to show up 2/3 classes each week. She is very organized and let us know everything we need to do, which included short writing assignments, readings, and quizzes (but none of these took long). Pretty lenient as well. Class was not stressful and I learned a lot. Take the class if you can!
Dr. Lyon delivered her lectures in such an unbiased, respectful manner. Only had to go to class twice a week for a MWF class. No tests and only weekly assignments that are graded and a presentation at the end of the semester. She's super funny and makes class enjoyable to go to and she cares about her students. Highly recommend!
Flipped classroom with a free textbook reading, quiz, and short writing response due every week, but that means you only come in two days a week M/F or W/F and she lets you pick. You do have one class presentation.
Dr. Lyon is amazing. Super sweet, respects everyone's beliefs/opinions, and was very understanding when I had to leave school for a mental health crisis. This is a really interesting, easy class and she tries to make it fun! Would recommend. Weekly quizzes, writing assignments, several dialogue interviews, and a presentation make up your grade.
Such a great class! You go to class 2 days a week a lots of interesting debate. I have learned so much but without being bogged down by a ton of pointless work.
Very kind and easy professor, a great class for wanting an introduction to religious thought. Interesting discussions in class. Would definitely recommend!
This is such an enjoyable class. Not only do you get to dive into topics such as sexual ethics, but you also have somewhat of a sex ed class as well. Before each class, you will either have to watch a video or read something you give and do a quiz or write a short response. You will have 2 papers (that are fun, I promise). Lots of fun!
Great professor for a great class! Dr. Lyon is very personable and fun to be around! The class material is interesting and not difficult. No tests, just short assignments every week. Take this class!
Take this class with Dr. Lyon! It's such an easy course, and she makes it really fun. There are small writing assignments and readings due each week and a project. Classes are mainly discussion based. She split the class, so one half would meet on Monday and the other half on Wednesday and then all together on Friday.
Dr. Lyon was a great professor. Take this class for a fine arts credit if you need it. Only weekly assignments and readings and one presentation. Very easy and very interesting content. The class really makes you think about religion so if that interests you the discussions will be meaningful. Dr. Lyon really cares about her students.
Great class; assignments based on weekly readings and video. You only meet twice a week and is very manageable. Great professor
Dr. Lyon is honestly one of the kindest professors I have ever had! She truly cares for her students and wants the best for each and every one of us. The class was all about the Problem of Suffering in religion, which I found so interesting! She gives weekly homework and there is a final presentation project at the end of the semester.
Dr. Lyon is a very kind person and her course design is fair. Despite this, the class covers outright ridiculous content that does not even arise in the Bible. I signed up for this class because I wanted to learn more about what Christianity had to say about the topics covered, not Dr. Lyons personal opinions.
This class was an easy A! Dr. Lyon is very kind and bubbly; many times we just talked about our own life. The class only met 2x a week, MWF; split in discussion groups. Flipped classroom; but all the assignments and quizzes were very easy! One presentation to do but it's also very easy. I recommend this class to anyone needing an easy RELI course!
Honestly one of the nicest humans I've ever met. Very easy class. You can choose to not come to class on mondays or wednesdays, as they're break out groups. Class focuses on the problem of suffering. It's basically impossible to not get an A so long as you do the (very easy) work, which there isn't too much of. Highly recommend RELI 1003 w/ Lyon!
Take Dr. Lyon if you can! Definitely easy, but if you really lean into it, you can also learn a whole lot! I enjoyed coming to class every day, and we had a nice little classroom community. Dr. Lyon is definitely quirky but in the BEST way, and she really cares about her students. Assignments were frequent, but nothing was graded harshly.
Dr. Lyon's class was very enjoyable. The main topic of her 1003 class was suffering, but she made it interesting to learn about and still fun. There are a couple assignments due weekly but overall they didn't take an unreasonable amount of time and she didn't grade them harshly at all. Dr. Lyon is a great professor who actually cares! I recommend!
She is honestly a really good professor. No exams, but there is a project, and many writing assignments, though they are really easy and she is an easy grader. Her lectures are super boring and she talks for the entire class period, but she does require all her students to participate, and she starts class with a fun attendance question.
Very sweet professor. Only have to go to class twice a week (Monday or Wednesday is a breakout session). The homework eventually just felt like busy work though. Would definitely recommend taking this class, just stay on top of assignments.
i loved dr lyons. i took this course for my area iv because it sounded interesting even though im not even religious and it was a good credit. easy weekly writing assignments and quizzes but no exams or final. i would say a very easy A and pretty interesting since its more about how different religions view suffering. also class only twice a week
She's so sweet! She's so pumped up during class and you can tell she really likes what she teaches. I would def recommend everybody takes her. The class itself is easy and actually super interesting. She's also extrememly understanding (my apt flooded and she gave me like a weeks worth of extensions)
Probably the easiest class I have taken at UGA. If you show up to class and do the assignments, it is pretty much a guaranteed A. The class is also pretty interesting.
Easiest professor I have ever had so far! Homework always took less than 1 hour (a quiz and writing assignment) and was very easy, and lectures were just discussions on the homework. Very chill, interesting class and Dr.Lyon was very understanding and receptive to our needs. Cannot recommend her enough!!
Class was straightforward w a reading/video, assignment, and online quiz for each weekly module. The content was interesting, wish she had not focused so much on Christianity since it tends to dominate the religion conversation in America but I understand she can design the class how she wants. Pretty good class, based in small class discussion
Such a genuine and relatable professor. Only have to go to class two days a week for MWF class. No exams, just an easy reading assignment and quiz each week before class. Understands that most people take this class just to check off a box in degreeworks and tries to make it as easy as possible for you.
Dr. Lyon is one of my favorite professors. She genuinely cares about you and your well being. It is a flipped class so you watch a video and read a chapter or 2 before class and then discuss in class. Only have to attend two days out of three and Friday's usually consist of presentations. have a weekly assignment, 4 interviews, and 1 presentation
Dr. Lyon is amazing! Such a kind, respectful prof who teaches interesting content. For this class, we graded ourselves and did an ungrading system. If you are at all interested in religion, take her!
Absolutely amazing professor. Dr. Lyon was very friendly and cared a lot about the content that she taught. Her lectures were extremely interesting, and she was very tolerate of other students and their opinions. My only criticism is that the class uses an extremely convoluted grading system instead of just assigning grades.
Dr. Lyon is one of the best professors I've had at UGA. She is super nice and caring and her class is very easy. Minimal, easy homework that is assigned weekly and there is only one presentation you have to do about any religion you choose. I would love to take another one of her classes in the future.
Class is mandatory but I never minded going to my 10:20 class because she is so fun and happy. Each week there are a few assignments due before class that require reading and writing. These aren't bad and help prepare you for class! We only would attend class two times a week either Monday/Friday or Wednesday/Friday.
LOVE DR. LYON! She is fabulous and makes class such a pleasure to attend. There are no exams and class is only twice a week (despite being a MWF). The content is so interesting and she presents it in an engaging way. There's a little bit of outside work, but I did not mind as we only had class twice a week. I would HIGHLY recommend her class.
Super nice professor who makes the class as easy and light as possible. Class was really interesting and the assignments were organized into weekly modules so due dates were very clear. The worst part was listening to everyone's presentations at the end but it was worth it for the super easy class.
Loved this class and highly highly recommend! Dr. Lyon is such a good teacher and obviously cares a lot about the course and its material. There is weekly homework but it is easy if you watch the videos, and the final is a project that you can definitely get an A on if you put in any effort. Really cool class and makes you think a lot.
Dr. Lyon facilitated really thoughtful discussions in class, and everyone seemed engaged. She used an "ungrading" model where we evaluate ourselves for a grade; seemed strange but the class found it useful. Dr. Lyon is also incredibly caring towards her students. I'm not a religion student and I had a great time with this class. Would take again!
Prof Lyon is a sweet and engaging lecturer who makes this otherwise dry topic quite interesting. While the assignments are frequent, they're straightforward and graded leniently. I found using Unstuckstudy alongside the textbook to be a helpful study combo.
She was very passionate about what she was teaching, and it showed.
I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Lyon! I took her RELI 1003E class over the summer and I highly recommend taking it with her. Extremely interesting course and extremely balanced summer class.
Very kind prof, and easy class. It is only 19 days, but there's a quiz or short writing assignment due basically every day. Just watch the videos, do the quizzes, and type out something genuine in 5 minutes, and you'll be fine. There is a video presentation you have to submit at the end, but it's not too bad: 8-10 mins and not seen by the class.
Don't get me wrong. I'm kind of a bonehead. I tried to take Dr. Lyon's class but I learned that UGA isn't like the University of Alabama where I transferred from. You actually have to study here. You can't just drink all day and skip class and still expect to pass like you can there. Life is tough, but it's a lot tougher if yur from Alabama.
Dr. Lyon is really engaging and the class is super interesting. Most times, we spend the first 30 minutes of class just answering a fun question of the day. There are a lot of writing assignments but they are not difficult. I would 100% recommend taking Dr. Lyon. This class is an easy A without it being too difficult, and still learning a lot.
Dr. Lyon was the best! She's really funny and the class discussions are really engaging and we spend a lot of time talking about fun things as well. There are a decent amount of writing assignments, but the rubric is very clear and it is easy to do well. No in class tests or quizzes. I 100% recommend!
You give yourself your grade in this class, so you need to be very self motivated to do well (she has the ability to override your self grading). It's very interesting material, and the class discussions are always fun. Very reading heavy, and there are assignments after each reading. Your grade is only papers, no tests. Fun class and I recommend
Dr. Lyon is very understanding and a respected professor. She makes her class so interesting and obviously cares deeply about the subject, but also cares about her students. You have to do multiple readings a week, but they aren't super long. Highly recommend Dr. Lyon!
