I took Jodie 2 semesters ago, and she was awesome. She has no problems with sharing her political views, and they are LIBERAL! Nice, passionate about Communications, and able to make public speaking easy for even the most timid students. Be very prepared, do not plagiarize, and go in knowing that Wikipedia is NOT an authorized material source!

I was one of the 3 guys in her class for COM 101 during winter session. SHE IS AMAZING!!! She's very passionate about communication and very helpful!! I learned so much from her class and I am happy I took her for COM 101. Just pay attention to her lectures, participate and have a great outline and you will do fine! OH..YES SHE IS HOT!!

This was one of my favorite classes,she made it so fun!! she gives you time to get to know your classmates that you dont feel uncomfortable talking in front of them because everyone is friends. not much book work, just activites and lectures (that you can actively participate in). Prof. Mandel knows what she is talking about. Read the book and follow her instructions exactly and you will receive an A. If english is your second language, you can still do very well. I would take her again if I needed another class that she taught.

She is an amazing professor. I took her in the summer and the work consisted of one easy speech about ourselves with visual aids for a pass/fail grade, a short speech about music, an informative speech, and a persuasive speech. There was also a letter to a future student that takes place of a final exam, and she canceled our midterm. A must have!

I took this class over the summer. I would recommend you take it over the summer as well because it is pretty easy and not a drag to go to every day. She is super layed back and interesting. There is alot of activities and not just note taking. If you suck at public speaking you can still get an A as long as you do the work. Take her for sure!

I was a little hesitant about this class at first, I felt like we were being treated like children. I see now that Jodie really just wants to give you as much help as she can before you're on your own (the last three speeches). She made us feel comfortable and I learned a lot. Jodie is very interested in communications and her enthusiasm keeps you interested. I was VERY afraid of speaking publicly before her class but she's actually inspired me to take Communication Studies as a minor, that's how much I enjoyed her class! She's not a pushover, so do the work that you're supposed to and this class will be no problem!

Took this class online. Can be pretty easy if you follow the outlines. She can be a little nit picky when it comes to grading the speeches. Her online classes are a little disordanized. Nice instructor and and is pretty helpful in answering questions.

I have to be honest, i took this class in person during summer of '09. I did all of the work right and on time, i got great grades for all of my speeches. Yet i still got a B in her class. I still do not understand this. It ruined my 4.0 & and others in class who got worse grades during the class got an A at the end. But she is a great instructor.

Took this class online. Really easy, 4 speeches. One done directly from home on your webcam. The other 3 we meet with Prof. Jodie and did not have to record ourselves. She gave us our grade there and gave us pointers. Would take online!

Online class very organized, detail specific and answers emails quickly. Easy grader if you do your work. 2 group projects,create a website and essay about a movie. Easy if group participates. Would take her again! Learned a lot about how a group functions. Great learning experience!

for an online teacher she was great. she was well organized and on top of grades. she responded quickly to emails and very helpful. 2 major group projects are not very hard to complete as long as you have a group that works together.

Took this class over summer and I can honestly say I am bummed that it is over. Professor Mandel is an AMAZING teacher. If her class if full, try to get in her class because some people get scared and drop it but honestly, that was their lost because they could have gotten a good grade if they just tried hard enough :D

I took her summer class and she's probably one of the best professors I'll ever have. Group Comm. and the theories in it are the easy part.. working with lazy, difficult people that aren't on the same level as you will be the hard part-Jodie and what I've learned about myself in groups made it worth while. This was a hybrid class. Considering the limitations of only meeting 5 times, it was a great class. I learned a lot about myself and had a lot of fun. There's some luck involved - I got assigned to a fabulous group. Some groups I felt a little sorry for. Ms. Mandel is awesome - smart, funny, approachable. Love her, love the class.

I took Professor Mandel's class over the summer and I wish I wouldve taken her for a whole semester because she is that great of a teacher! Took the hybrid course with her, the class was very fun and entertaining, I enjoyed it. She grades painfully slow but apologizes and makes up for it. She responded to emails promptly and really helped whenever I had any comments or concerns. I would recommend.

Professor Jodie is great. She is strict on her outline format, but she is willing to call you after hours to help you. She give us one final written exam. She gives three speeches, two informative speeches and one persuasive speech. She always gives great feedback after your speech, and what you may need to improve on for your next speech.

Course is SUPER easy. Did not need the textbook at all. The professor provide everything you need. Met 3 times in the semester to deliver speeches. She is very strict on the outline and "um's" while delivering speech, but other than that she is great!

Hard to get an "A" but easy to pass. Be careful with fillers, other than that you should be good. Mandel was very personable and clear on her instructions. Professor Mandel is amazing! I hate speaking in public more than anything and she made it so easy! You have 4 speeches total. As long as you do them and follow the outline there is no reason for you not to get an A in this class. I'm one to always get textbooks for classes even if people say not to, but you definitely don't need it for this class.

Jodie is extremely friendly and does a great job at making you feel comfortable in class. There was 4 speeches (one you upload online that was 2-4 min) and one easy final. My professor was amazing. I don't think I have ever had a teacher take such an interest in students topics before. The class was extremely fun, I actually looked forward to coming into class. Professor Jodie Mandel is a great inspirational lecturer. I've never taken a Communications course in my academic life. I'd say it was semi-difficult because of my underlying anxiety. She really pushes you to do your best. She is also very entertaining and engaging with her students. I'd definitely take another class with her if I could. )

Public speaking is always not my thing. I took this class for credit, but I truly learned A LOT and really feel that I definitely have improved in public speaking. Professor Jodie is one of the greatest teachers I met. If you're not a good public speaker, this class can be challenging but her feedbacks are VERY helpful and encouraging. Go for her!

I love Professor Jodie. She is an excellent teacher. I took her 8 week hybrid class and it was my favorite class this semester. 4 speeches. For the first speech you'll upload a video to the class YouTube channel (Any Old Bag Speech). Second and third speech are informative, fourth is persuasive. Allowed to use notes while presenting your speech.

Took Professor Jodie for spring 2017 & it was one of my favorite classes. She definitely is serious about students learning and if you want an 'A' you'll have to put in effort. She gives great feedback, has a bright personality, & is very structured with how you should present so take her advice, ask questions when you need help, & youll be fine.

Professor Mandel definitely made class interesting. Should be a spokesperson for yoga. Classmates and participation made the class fun. If you follow her instruction on how to do the speeches you'll be fine. She does try to help people get over anxiety for public speaking.

Took COM101 online and showed up in person to present speeches. She gives the option of either submitting a video online or coming together to present. Super easy class and she was a quick grader. Gave good feedback right after presenting. Before each speech, she tells you exactly how to form it and is clear about the requirements.

online class has 2 speeches and a couple of assignments. You can go in and do a speech or record it and turn it in. Jodi was a GREAT professor. Took the hybrid 8 week course. Had 4 speeches, 1 online and 3 in class. 1 exam that we used the book for. She is very big on attendance. She give you a very specific outline to follow. If you follow that outline when writing and delivering the speech you will get a good grade. Easy grader. Does mediation before speech day. Very cool teacher.

Professor Jodie did an absolutely amazing job teaching and being one with the class and making sure that you understood what was being taught to you. Professor Jodie was amazing. I think we all get anxiety when it comes to COM 101 but she is able to talk about ways to lower your anxiety (more towards meditation and breathing techniques). I took her 8 week course and it was fun. I truly recommend taking her class, she is such a great professor.

I took Professor Mandel's COM 101 class and I definitely recommend her. There's a total of 3 speeches (along with small speeches about introducing yourself). She requires an outline and FORMAT matters! She will provide useful tips for presentations. The classroom's environment is very friendly and that is very important to a speech class.

The key to pass with this professor is organization skills, work ethic and engagement. Put in the work, try your best and you will pass.

She is well balanced and helpful to her students. Her class was simple and taught me quite a bit. She focuses on how how to deliver your speeches and your outlines following the correct format. She builds a great environment in her class that it makes me want to take her class again. This class taught me a ton.

I was dreading communications more than any other class but Jodie made it a wonderful experience! I felt very comfortable and respected. I took her eight week course and as long as you attend all classes, because you fail if you miss too many, and follow her specific formats then you'll be good.

I took mandel for the 8 week accelerated class and she was amazing. You do 4 speeches but she is more then happy to read over your outlines before turning them in. Gives great feedback, super funny, and easy to contact outside of class if you have questions. Highly recommend her if you are new and easily nervous with crowds.

A true Gem! I took her 8 week course, we had 3 total speeches, an outline is due a week before the speech. She gives you a very good example, to use for the outlines. A short 3 min video about yourself, 1 short exam, and peer evaluation essay. Honestly one of the best, most helpful yet easiest classes i've taken. She's there to help!

Jodie is very nice and a good professor for COM 101. I liked her a lot and you don't feel so nervous and pressured in her public speaking class. Beware for remote students: she is the only professor (right now) that requires speeches to be done live on zoom rather than recording.

Prof Jodie is perfect for com101 class. There are 3 speeches and 1 recorded introduction of yourself. I thought I am bad public speaker, but I got A in her class. Reading from book only 2 chapters about persuasive speech. All other assignments you can do only with info she gave in the class. She is tough about attendance. Don't skip her classes

Jodi's very chill as long as you don't break her rules, which are extremely simple. She'll review your speech outline and give you great feedback. She's a bit of a strict grader, but she makes it extremely clear what she wants and will help you with it. As long as you stay on top of everything and follow her rules, it's an easy and great class.

I've failed COM 101 once, and I thought I'd never pass, but professor Mandel made it so easy to get an A! She was teaching two classes at the time, and we could go to her other class to meet the attendance requirement if we needed to. She taught us meditation and yoga to overcome anxiety. Hybrid class includes one video recorded speech.

Each student had the option to present a speech via Zoom with her & classmates or send her a video conference call w.6 people or a video of your own audience max 6 people. I took Jodie for communications' 101 and can I just say, she is AMAZING. Its my first year as a student in college and she helped me throughout my experience. Her class was super fun and everyone in there was like a family. I definitely recommend her to everyone who needs this class! Lots of opportunities for extra credit. :)

I recommending taking her class 100%! The professor reply to her emails super fast and then feedbacks are so helpful. Even though the class is three hours long, its really enjoyable so the time was not an issue. She also give a lot of extra credit opportunities! It is impossible to fail the class unless you dont do your work.

This was an awesome class! I took it as an 8 week course and it was such a smart decision. Only 4 speeches but the first 2 are simple and fast. An audience of 6 adults is required for the last 2 speeches which are research based and require more writing. All assignments contribute to these speeches which makes the speeches pretty easy. Great Class!

I loved this class so much. The teacher is such an amazing person and she actually gives feedback right after the last lectures. She actually motivated me to do well and made me feel super into the lectures! Let us do our speeches on what we were passionate about, and you grow a bond with the class. Do not regret not taking an amazing COM class.

You will have to write three outlines and present four speeches. Just know that all the things that she is teaching you will need for life she not teaching us something that we won't need. She's a fantastic professor, and I would retake her eight-week class because she is so fun.

I took the 8-week online course, where attendance was mandatory. She is very caring and nice, engaging personally with the class and students. It started off with the first to classes being lectures from her to get us up to speed. Every other class was the presentation of our speeches. It's probably usual to get at least a B in this class.

I loved my class with this prof! She gives great feedback, both positive and negative. There was only one exam during the semester, and she gave a study guide for it. You can ask her to review your outlines before you submit them too! She is super nice and understanding, and although it was an 8 week class, I didn't feel rushed at all. Take her!!

Prof. Jodie is soooo amazing. I literally can’t say enough good things abt her. She was helpful, always available, kind, funny, and made everyone feel comfortable. I went into the class nervous bc I’ve never done Public speaking before but she was so amazing. I would have her as a professor over and over again. ILY JODIE lol

I have severe anxiety when talking in front of groups and others clearly did too. By the end of the course we all had no problem giving a speech in front of our peers. She gave great feedback, her syllabus is clear and concise, show up to every single class, do the work and there is no issue with getting an A. Any problems, just email her.

10/10 would take Professor Mandel again. Super easy and fun class, and she always made class enjoyable. As long as you do your work and practice your speeches, it is an easy A.

Really fantastic professor. She is NOT test heavy, and as long as you take the class seriously and are vigilant, you will pass. She is easily reachable, responsive, and great at what she does. She gives great resources for the class to use online. The workload was more than fair for an 8-week course and I enjoyed this class a lot.

She's an easy grader. She has a format for her outlines and speeches, but it's super easy to meet the criteria. She's funny, she's likeable, she's caring, and the discussions after each speech get pretty fun and interesting as well. I suggest taking this in the Summer, or when it's the only class you need to focus on.

Prof. Mandel is one of the best professors I had in my college career. She is extremely thorough in her expectations and course outline. You will know exactly what is expected of you for the entire semester and she is very accessible if you have any questions. She clearly cares about her students and gives you every chance to succeed!

She's very clear of her expectations. Class was pretty easy. I took an 8 week course, we had 4 speeches in total and she assigns outlines to draft our speech. She gives wonderful feedback to help improve your speech, and is very concise. Great professor!

Professor Mandel is great, she has clear grading criteria and will answer to emails almost instantly. Any issues I had she responded within the hour and made a point to tell our class that she would do so. She gives really good feedback as well! Would definitely recommend!

such a great com professor I have taken this class before and failed but from the very first day she makes the class room feel so welcoming and comfortable she explains everything very clearly and is also way an email away she replies back extremely quickly over all it such a fun professor and makes you feel a lot more calm about having to present

Professor Mandel is very straightforward in her syllabus! Just participate and you'll get a good grade. Her work isn't difficult and I recommend doing speeches with her on Zoom! She understands the nerves when you perform in front of others and she provides great feedback, and you get your grade right after. I highly recommend her. TAKE HERR!

Very straightforward. You have 4 speeches. 2 without an audience and the last 2 with an audience. I recommend doing the last two via zoom with her. She is not a tough grader and as long as you follow the speech grading rubric you'll be fine. Definitely practice your speeches beforehand although you can use an index card for reference.

Professor Mandel is a great professor! I was dreading taking a speech class, but hers is definitely worth taking! She's so kind, helpful, and provides great feedback. I can tell she really cares about her students and is passionate about what she does. This class was great!

Professor Mandel is the best teacher i ever had! i took an online course (summer), 4 speeches, 2 without audience and 2 with audience, homework was okay.... the instructions were clear, she is very kind and understands if you have any difficulties during the course.

Professor Mandel was one of the nicest professors I have ever met. I highly recommend taking her, especially if you are shy and hate presenting in front of others. For her speeches, she is flexible with how you submit them and also offers a Zoom meeting where you can present in front of her and your classmates as well. You won't regret taking her!

She is an amazing professor. 4 speeches. first two speeches are SO easy . last two speeches you should do on zoom with Jodie. Professor Mandel understands the nervousness of public speech and she isn't harsh on your flaws. She responds to emails quickly and provides excellent feedback. There isn't much reading or homework. 4 speeches, first two are very easy with no audiences and I recommend the last 2 to be done via zoom with her! She cares about her students!

Just be organized and participate when you can. She is very nice and understands that not everyone is good at public speaking. Attendance is important for this class.

Jodie Mandel is an amazing professor. You can tell she is very passionate about what she teaches. She gives clear instructions and helpful feedback. Words cannot describe how amazing this course was!! I took COM 101 as a summer course credit, and I was nervous because the course was only 1 month long. But wow, she was such a down-to-earth professor, really engaged with the class and I learned a lot from the course. She is also very understanding, communicate w/her and you will do great!!!

She's caring and understanding. Lectures are easy to understand and straightforward. Summer class was only 1mo which made it hard to work FT and take this class+psy, but doable.

Professor Jodie is an incredible teacher. I took her class in person, and she makes an effort to connect with every student. She answers all questions clearly and is very accessible, you can email her and expect a response within a few hours or on the same day. She's pretty outgoing and genuinely loves this subject and teaching.

Having Jodie as my professor after being nervous to come back to school after 7 years was so incredibly refreshing. She was extremely communicative, organized, and caring. 10/10 recommend taking her class and don't be shy to ask for her help she is super incredibly helpful! Awesome professor, my background is law enforcement, and I completed 3 academies. I am very detailed and book-smart. However, I didn't know how nervous I get when speaking, I 8 Mile it. Professor Jodie worked with me and she gives awesome feedback she responds quickly and is very nice! I appreciate her so much! Pick her as your professor! 100/100!!

Big J is the goat. The class I took was hybrid and accelerated (8 weeks). The structure of the class was very easy to follow: 4 speeches, homework quizzes from the online textbook, and a few discussions. She gives you clear instructions at the beginning of the course about how to get an A. Follow the rubrics and outlines, and you'll be fine.
