Fun but difficult class. Very funny and helpful teacher.
easy easy easy A
Really funny and nice guy. Makes class fun and easy. He is somewhat unclear at what he wants and can be somewhat strict in grading. If you do all assignments and don't miss more than 3 classes no matter what you pass unlike me.
Overall good guy. Comes off pretty intense tho. Have fun with improv. He made kids teach imp chapters which is not cool. if you try you'll do good. Stay after and ask him for tips too. It's my fav, yet most stressful class (i don't have tough ones tho)

Weird guy... Didn't like the class
I've never heard of so many people dropping a TAI class, but that's because of him. He isn't that hard, but I based my rating on other TAI 170 teachers. If you take TAI 170 stay clear from him. It will be MUCH easier with somoene else.
Such a fun class! I had a great time and made a lot of good friends. If you can take this class, do it.
There's 2 7minute speeches & 2 4pg papers, for the whole semester, it's not that hard if you put forth the effort and get them done. Very cool, easy-going guy, fun class, but probably wouldn't be the same without Chris.
Expect to do everything for this guy. He doesn't even lecture. He has the students do it. However, do what he asks and you'll get the A, no problem. He's a playwright by trade, so don't skimp on the papers that go along with the performances.
I got all A's and one B- on a performance and my final grade was a B cause he didn't feel I understood the class enough, even though my grades came to an A-.I tried to talk to him about it,But if he doesn't like you, you wont get the grade you earned.
This is one of my favorite classes! Jody is such a great teacher! The class depends on your personal performances (only 3) it's still a great time! Be sure to memorize your pieces and take the assignments seriously, you shouldn't have any problems.Havefun
The class warm-ups are fun, but be prepared to memorize a lot of poems and you have to do about 4 performances. Jody is a good teacher and not a very hard grader. He makes class interesting and helps students step out of their comfort zones.
Nice guy. Not hard, as long as you take the class seriously. Be prepared to memorize and present. Not bad. I enjoyed the class. He makes it sound harder than it is in the beginning, dont worry, its not as bad as it sounds.
One word: ****. He grades too hard. He wants 7 to 10 minutes performances with 4 to 6 pg papers with each one. All the other teachers for TAI 170 are easy and nice. Everybody in my class hated him including me. We all hoped he'd get run over by a car.
Awesome Guy!My favorite class! Go to class, do the journals, memorize your work and your set to go.Small class, met some great people, laughed my pants off every single day!Funnest class ever, make sure u take him as long as u put in the effort. E.C. too.
This class was easy..do your work, get everyhitng memorized and youll be fine
Yeah, he was very pushy with the way he teaches, and expects too much from people who are beginning.
ABSOLUTE JERK! very rude and used extremely bad language! When I am being taught to publically speak, I assume that the person teaching me will use proper language, as a good example. In his case, not!
He was an awesome professor. He has professional experience with what he's teaching, which helps out a lot. Also, the class is a no brainer. You get several weeks to memorize a 3-5 minute piece, not 7-10 like some people say, and another week to type a 3 page paper, not 6. Good guy. Take his class.
Absolutely cool guy! Loves to joke and have fun. Even if you don't like theater, take him because he's not one to be picky. I mean his comments are helpful and will only help you.Other than that he is a great guy, a little weird sometimes, but it's worth it
He rocks. Way better then a speech class! The first week or two he might scare you, but don't let that make you drop the class. He's a great help when it comes to performances. He tries to get the most out of you. He's a big help when it comes to speaking in front of people.
Weird guy. Speaks his mind and doesn't care who he steps on in the process. He knows what he's doing. You have to do the performances though. I missed one and ended up having to take the class again. Its fairly easy though. Just show up and start the journals early. Those were a pain.
This guy is a quack, I worked my tail off in his class and got a C. Before this class I had a four point. I believe he should be kicked out of Central. He doesnt help at all with his students. I enjoy acting, but not with this shmuck. If you do take him, best of luck... Im going to the DEAN.
The Price is Right.
Great Guy! Do Ex Cr, Journals, and if you are memorized when your time comes, there should be no problem getting a B or an A. FUN class!!
I try my best and I didnt really do that bad on my first preformance but I got a freaking C! I am a great student but this is really bad!! Take is with someone else if you can. He is a nice guy though! lol
I wish I had taken this class with another teacher.
He gets mad when you skip class and holds grudges. If he likes you, then you'll do fine and if not watch out. He gives evil stares during performances but hes okay. If you go to class, participate, and do all of the assignments, you'll get at least a C.
this man is horriable. i had mono AND a doctors note to show why i missed class and he still wouldnt accept it as an excuse. he picks favorites and sticks to them, if youre not one of them: YOU FAIL. he has horriable language, which is contradictory to wanting to take a SPEECH class with him. definitely take with someone else!!
Very nice guy. If you put an effort into memorizing your pieces and come to class you will get an A. No final for his class if satisfied with grade as is. Easy A! Take him!
Hes cool but I hate having to memorize these long ass stories.
Jody was a good guy. The journals and memorization were a pain but if you stay on top of your work, participate, and attend class "most" of the time, you should do fine. Plus, the final is optional. Easy A maybe, easy B for sure!
I don't know what these other people are complaining about, our performances were only 5 mins tops, so don't worry about that. I didn't really care for Jody, since when I walked into the class and saw Richard Karn and was expecting a chick, but w/e. I didn't care for him as a person either...he's creepy.
AWESOME! All you have to do is memorize three poems that are between 1-3 mins. If you can do that and recite it to a class! You'll do great. Jody is a fun professor that doesn't waste your time!
He was great, thoguh he did expect you to work. THe classes themselves were fun and as long as you did your memorizing he loved you. Over all a nice guy
Amazing, I loved Jody's TAI 170 class. I had a night class so i was nervous about it being really long and boring, but it was by far my favorite class. Jody's really laid back and the class is easy as long as you actually memorize your work and come to class
The class was fairly easy. He gives a lot more work than other professors though. So I would advise finding a different section if you can.
I loved this class! When I first signed up for it I thought it was going to be so hard and I thought I was going to hate the class. But, It ended up being my favorite! He is a great guy and you can make friends really easily in the class. Overall I loved it..even though I am not a theatre major. I suggest this class to anyone and everyone!
I am not into acting. I thought I could still pull off a good grade. If you have problems memorizing, pick a different prof. Your pieces must be flawless. Think about what your getting yourself into. There are other profs that are MUCH easier than Jody for this specfic class.
You have to put effort into it but its worth it, it turned out to be my favorite class! I made friends easily and it was fun. But his expectations are very high.
Tough teacher, but good guy. It is purely a work class. Work, you will be rewarded with a good grade. Show ANY laziness, you will be punished. Not for people trying to skate by, but you will improve dramatically if you take the class seriously.
He was so much fun, I had a blast in this class.
all I will say is: DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM. If your going into performance theater, I highly suggest it. If your not, then I wouldn't. Go with someone easier if you have to take this class or take TAI 175.anything but this. the stress of feeling like I am going to fail is ruining my first semester here. *I'm not the only one*
If you're not willing to spend a lot of time on this class, don't take this professor. You have to work hard, but as long as you do the stuff you need to do, It turns out to be a pretty fun class. It's my favorite, right now and I am nowhere near a theatre major.
Awesome!
Jody is in my opinion a good teacher. Yes you have to work, but it becomes beneficial in the long run for yourself. The workbook is very time consuming but the point is not to make you hate the class, its to benefit YOU! I love the class because we have all become really comfortable around each other and we have a really good time!
Jody is a true college professor. He requires his students to work and demands that assignments be handed in on time. He really allows you to grow in terms of your potential while in the class. I enjoy acting and this class was my favorite class of my first semester here at CMU. If you are not willing to work, take a different professor.
Okay...I wrote on here earlier so let me say that He is not a bad professor. really. Class is pretty interesting and fun IF YOU LET IT be. You can learn a lot and do well if you try and are willing to do the work. IF you want an easy class, don't take him. It just takes effort.
Jody teaches a tough class but if you do the work and put forth time to memorize you will be fine. he made my intrest of theater go and improved me as aactor and I loves the class and reccomend it for the awesome teaching and fun enviroment
Very good professor! If you aren't good at memorizing pieces and don't want to work hard, don't take this class. It is a challenge but you learn lots!
VERY nice guy- i mean how many other teachers were standup comedians and let you make fun of them in class?
Bottom line, the class was difficult and some people had it easier then others. That said, it was a fun and fantastic class. I had only dabbled in theater before this class, and I think Jodi improved my technique 4 fold. He does grade hard, but he grades on improvement. If you do the work and listen to his advice, you will surely get an "A".
This class was fairly easy. Make sure you take the time to practice your performances and you'll do fine. He Let's you you redo a performance for the final to get a better grade if you wish. Price is a great prof. who knows what he's talking about.
I don't know how I managed to do poorly. Attendance is only worth 10 points, but it still hurts if you don't show.
Prof. Price was awesome. He knows his stuff, he's hilarious, and he grades fairly easily. Just go to class and do what he suggests and you'll ace it.
Jody was a very good professor. I liked the class and enjoyed coming. He's pretty lenient on grades and as long as you show that you did a good job he will give you a good grade. I would recommend this class to anyone who's not afraid to perform in front of others. If you have issues performing I would think about taking another class.
Class is fairly easy. This class is really relaxing because most days you just watch performances. Workbook is graded easy but don't start it the night before its due.
Jody was very helpful and makes the class interesting. i didnt like performing infront of people and he made it easier for me. workbook pretty easy, dont start the night before, overall pretty easy class
By far my favorite professor on campus. Fore Warning: he grades FAIR on performances. Very difficult to get a 100%, but POSSIBLE! Such a nice guy, makes it comfortable to perform. Be WILLING to go outside the box and your comfort zone, it'll boost your grade. Workbook is an easy 300 points if you do it thoroughly. I'd HIGHLY recommend him.
lots of fun. i hope he gets more involved in directing shows
i loved this class a lot. before i was absolutely terrified to perform in front of people, but jody made it really easy and im so glad i took this class with him. hes a lil weird at times, but a funny and nice guy. make sure to keep up with the workbook, its an easy 300 points but dont wait until the last minute.
Jody is awesome!... if you put in the effort. The 3 performances were graded fairly, but an A is very attainable if you come prepared. With class attendance points, 2 play reviews, and a workbook, there are enough points to get an A even if you a performance doesn't go well.
The class requires serious memorization, but the instructor is amazing. The class was. It was only class on my schedule that I actually looked forward to.
He's a very handsome man...
Get 2 free absences. 2 play responses, 3 performances, a workbook worth 300 points (do NOT put off until the night before, you won't finish it). Loved going to class for the warm-ups. Take advantage of the rehearsal days. He doesn't give out A-'s. 93 and up is a A and 89-92 is a B+! Good teacher, very funny. I enjoyed his class. Take him!
Jody is a great guy. His syllabus seems daunting but its not that bad. Just come to class and ask questions. You have to put work into this class, but he appreciates you effort and will make sure you do well if you show it. Do not put off that darn workbook. It will stress you out if you do.
I enjoyed this class! You will have to go to class but it isn't bad. The exam is optional and basically a makeup if you have a bad performance. There were four performances. The last 2 need to be memorized but put in effort & you will get a good grade. Don't put off the workbook! It ended up raising my grade & I made a lot of it up! Good teacher!
Overall, Jody is a nice man and I did like him. I failed a performance due to being ill and he wouldn't let me redo it, and that hurt my grade. That was my only real issue. Memorization is a must. Random attendance taken. Start early on the journal, it's a pain but worth it. Not a very hard grader if you try your best. He obviously picks favorites.
Jody is a great guy! He grades fairly if he can see you're making an attempt to try and not putting things off. Take advantage of the in class time to practice performances (he pays attention to who participates). Start the workbook early, DO NOT put it off until the last week, you will stress yourself out. Random attendance, fair on grading.
Jody is a great teacher. He expects a lot from you and you have to work hard. He knows his stuff an A is not hard to achieve if you are willing to work for it.
Jody was a great professor. He grades very fairly, and although he clearly picks favorites, he does his best to treat each student with equality and respect. He is very passionate about theater, which makes his class very fun and entertaining.
Very understanding guy. Loves comic books ;)
Jody is a great guy, if you are willing to do your work you will have no problem getting a good grade in his class. He makes the syllabus daunting to scare off lazy people. I was in a play with Jody and got to know him he is a really cool and funny guy.
This was such a fun class! A lot of classroom activity but it's all fun stuff. If you have a fear of talking in front of a classroom this course will rid you of all your fears. Jody is a cool professor and there isn't much course work other than performances. Great CMU class, a lot better than Communication 101.
Dr. Price has you do 4 spoken performances, 3 of them need to be memorized. He assigns a workbook worth 300 out of 650 total points. He is very nice, funny, and takes great interest in the subject. He'll make you go to a play and write a paper about it, nothing hard, it's like 2 pages. Performances take more than a day to prepare for.
I loved this class! Jody pushed the performances down to 3 this semester with 3 workshops before all of them. Jody is very passionate about theater and makes you WANT to come to class. It helped a lot with my public speaking fear. Just do what you're told to do in his feedback and you'll do fine.
Honestly, I dreaded everyday I had to show up to this class. Jody was rude and had a temper. We did only have 3 performances but they had to be 2-5 minutes long and completely memorized. He grades hard; you MUST have excellent emotion (wich he doesnt tell you how to do), use hand gestures and blah blah blah. Hated him, hated the class.
He tries to scare you away at first, three performances and workshops and a workbook. Once you get to the workshops though, he really warms up to you. I really enjoyed going to class, and got excited to be in the room. He was very helpful and entertaining. Get your workbook done as soon as possible, and have fun in class.
Didn't like the class. He tries to be hard on the class at first but he really is a nice guy later in the semester. If you can't memorize word for word, dont take the class. 3 performances (personal narrative, poetry, and fiction) with a workshop before each. Also a workbook which is time consuming but almost a guaranteed A(amounting to 300 points)
He was completely awful. Grades very hard, and is not nice at all. If you take this class you better be a famous actor/actress because that is how he grades. On the 3 performances you must be fully memorized or you will get an E. Class is hard, I do not recommend him at all. Horrible professor
Take the time to get to know him a bit! He has a great sense of humor and is really a fun person to be around. Class is chill for the most part and he is pretty flexible and easy to work with. Always looked forward to going, one of the best profs I've run into!
Overall his class is easy. You have to do a workbook and 3 performances which you may not want to do but it's not hard to get an A as long as you put in a little effort. He's not the greatest prof but the class is easy to pass.
It is very hard to fail/not do well in this class. You will do 3 performances and 1 workbook (which counts as your final exam). He is intimidating at first, but really cares about his students. Jody is very funny and kind at his core. The class will challenge you, but is very easy. Don't be scared away! If you try, you will do well and have fun.
This class sucks. I dreaded going to it every day. He grades extremely hard. In order to do well you Must be an actor/actress. He tries to "push" you to succeed, which leads to him grading horribly. Everything is a "C" or lower in his eyes. I do not recommend taking this
This is a class that almost everyone is going to struggle with on some level; performing in from of people is difficult, but i came out of this class feeling 100% more confident.Jody is a good teacher, he can be very blunt and sometimes thats offputting, but he really does want to help.
Jody is honestly one of the worst professors that I have ever had. The only thing enjoyable about this class was talking about how much we disliked him when he left the room. Please do yourself a favor and avoid taking any classes with him!
Jody grades and treats kids in this class as if they are all theater students. he is a very hard grader, and in general pretty blunt and rude. I did not enjoy this class at all.
Jody is extremely rude and inconsiderate. He treats every student as if they are going into theatre, when most are just taking the class to double count. He grades hard and has high expectations. I did not enjoy this class and do not recommend it whatsoever.
Jody is a nice guy, but a very very tough grader. Make sure you memorize your pieces, otherwise you wont get above a B. He seldom hands out A's, so if you want it you have to work for it. He's got his quirks, but really he's just a huge nerd who has a love for superheroes. Don't skip class-you'll get a lower grade too.
This class requires memorization, so if you are bad at memorization you are better off with COM 101. Jody is a nice guy but when it comes to grading he doesn't really believe in A's. My friends with other profs are all getting A's and my class is struggling with C's. If you are a kick ass performer go ahead and take it with him.
Professor Jody Price is honestly one of the worst instructors I've had. Everything he grades on is insignificant and will mark you down a full letter grade, and even if you are exceptionally good at the material, you will potentially get the same grade as someone who does barely any work. He says explicitly, do not expect an A on your performances.
Jody is super passionate about what he does, and that makes him a great professor-if you're interested in theatreinterpretation. If you're just taking the class to double count, I would recommend a different prof. He requires memorization on pieces, and he definitely picks favorites. He hardly gives out A's, and you'd better be ready to work.
Jody is a great teacher if you have an interest in theater. He will push you to excel in class and wants to see you do well. However, the only reason anyone takes TAI 170 is because it double counts and he grades way too hard for a UP teacher. If you enjoy or have an interest in acting I recommend him 100%. If you want the easy A, HELL NO.
Take this class with a different instructor. Jody is the hardest grader on the planet. The sections taught by other teachers are fairly easy A classes. But Jody makes it almost impossible to get one.
The class was very hard, he is a tough grader and doesn't tell you what you did wrong. The exams were difficult also.
I am an emotionless person and his constructive criticism helped me fake all the emotion necessary to do the performances. He was also very understanding of my memory disability. He's a tough grader, but he does take effort into account. His midterm is ridiculously hard, but do the study guide and you'll be fine. SHOW UP AND SPEAK EVERY CLASS DAY.
I am a solid performer myself, so this class was kinda easy." If a high grade is desired, memorization is required." His favorite quote for good reason, if you struggle with confidence and/or memorization, think twice about this class. Passing is very easy, but getting an A is tough. Need two of the little books, textbook only relates to final exam
Jody has very high expectations, but if you put in a good effort and take his criticism into consideration, you will be fine. Personally, I am not a natural public speaker, but his encouragement helped me to handle my nervousness. He's a great guy and wants everybody in the class to feel comfortable and do well!
DO NOT TAKE HIM! Pros (good things) This is a class that double counts as an UP and Oral credit Cons (bad things) -He is very sarcastic -Expects everyone to be a theatre expert like him -is not clear on directions and expectations, but the minute you do something wrong he's talking down on you -Trips about you going to bathroom!!!!
Expects way too much from his students, has almost impossible goals. Refuses to meet during office hours and discourages and puts down students. Be prepared to work your ass off and still get a bad grade. Gave Everyone in the class C-E on speeches. Very bias and disrespectful towards students. Do not skip class, he will fail you.
Jody Price is the worst professor I have ever had. He will not help you if you ask for help, he doesn't give you anything related to the final exam at all so be prepared to fail that. He is bias and disrespectful to students. And has too high of expectations for a 100 course, everyone disliked him in my class and got horrible grades.
Unless you are a drama Major than his class will be most likely be the most miserable clas of your life. He will humiliate your entire class. Sure it's a learning experience and he gives good constructive criticism but it's with the cost of a good grade.
Jody was the worst professor I have ever had. He was disrespectful to students, and gave grades based on whether or not he liked you. You only use the books to pick out performances, and the final. You will not learn anything in class, and will have to read the book word for word if you want to get a good grade on the final.
Jody Price was a phenomenal guy, and an even more phenomenal professor. He really cares about the subject matter, and really cares about your success. He uses real-life examples to help you understand the expectations and content. He allows the class to provide guidance to other students. Memorize and put in the effort, and you'll do just fine.
Absolutely hated this professor. Does not consider other students feelings or personal space. Chooses favorites within the class, if you're a theatre student then you're fine, but if not then you have to be one hell of a great performer. This is not an acting class, TAI 182 is.
Jody is really interesting. He tries to be fair and appeal to everyone in the class. He completely changed the way he teaches and the amount of assignments and very do-able. You don't need acting skills, just effort and he'll see that you're trying. Everyone in my class did B's or above on the performances, and the final was optional.
He thinks hes really funny. He can be very condescending. He grades speeches very hard. I would avoid another class with him at all costs!
Jody is a very cool person, but as a professor, he focuses too much on the performance aspect instead of the stories. I am a very shy person, and he doesn't take that into consideration. It's not even that I am not memorized (which I am), it's that I get so nervous when I get up there that I stumble over my words. He's a tough grader too.
Prof. Price was funny, but could be condescending. He grades performances somewhat harshly but his papers are very easy. There were two papers and three performances and attendance was completely mandatory. Offers extra credit for perfect attendance. Not inspirational at all and could get VERY boring to listen to sometimes. Very average professor.
TAI 170 - I really enjoyed this class and personally thought Jody was funny (many find him rude and condescending - not his intention). Although, he is a TOUGH grader. If you have him, GO TO THE OFFICE HOURS! He will grade you better if he knows you. The class is really fun, but the only grades you get are from three speeches and two papers.
nice guy. tells you what you need to do for class. practice and memorize pieces ahead of time.
DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK. It's expensive and not used. There are only 3 performances, and as long as you do a good job of memorizing them, you'll be fine. You can only skip a certain amount of times before it affects your grade, and if you have perfect attendance, you get a bonus. Some days are a little pointless, but it's worth the extra points.
JP trys to act cool. He is like that uncle at Christmas that you try to avoid but cant. He is a mean grader, and lets you know that he doesnt like you. A lot of students were humiliated throughout class by doing performances. Please DONT TAKE
"Jody is a great proff! funny and easy :)!!" That statement is false and nonsensical. I am majoring in neuroscience, not theater. If you want a high GPA to get into med school, do not take this course.
He gets such bad reviews but is actually a really cool teacher. As long as you show up, participate in easy class discussions and practice your speeches you will get an A. The time also flies by pretty fast, his stories are amusing.
I loved JP! He was a very caring and kind professor. He, is, however, very sarcastic, and because of that many people find him to be rude and condescending. In general, as long as you do your work, and put in the effort, you will receive a good grade.
jody price is a funny guy! he makes attendance mandatory and will keep you the whole time period. You don't need all 6 of the books, just one of each (poetry and fiction). as long as you have the stories memorized its an easy A.
Jokes on you, its a guy. Take this class if you can remember things really easy. Three speeches that will be filmed and completely memorized will be your entire grade.
He is so weird. Not in a good way. He consistently made everyone in the class uncomfortable. He has quizzes on material barely covered in class. You have to do three performances from memory and he offers very little help. He also records your performances for his viewing later. Overall, ineffective and weird. Take the class with someone else.
I would not recommend anyone without theatrical experience to take TAI 170 with Jody Price. He (yes he) requires students to memorize the entirety of the three speeches that are needed to be preformed. If you have experience doing theater in high school you will be fine, but students without this experience should look to another professor.
Beware very sarcastic & has weird humor but he's funny & loves what he does. You have to memorize all 3 of your performances which sucks but it isn't as hard as you think it will be. Gives lots of points for attendance & offers some extra credit. I would take a class with him again.
Easy A if you do the work. 3 memorized performances but they are short and spread out so there's never a heavy work load. Fair grading and definitely do not need to be good at theater to get an A. As for the professor he is nice and will help you but not the most approachable and has sort of a weird humor. Class is only made of 100 total points.
Jody Price is a gem. He really wants his students to achieve. He also has a really quirky personality, and will often poke fun of his students, but it's all lighthearted and funny. You have a handful of presentations and only 2 quizzes. Overall, It's a really easy course and he makes it fun.
DO NOT Take this with him if you do not have theatre experience. I ignored the warnings and suffered the consequences. Had us do a presentation where we had to state what our "implied audience" was in an analysis paragraph and did not teach us about implied audience until after. Super unhelpful. Peer critiques were the most unhelpful. worst prof
Jody is super funny and connects with students well. I was very scared that we had to memorize everything, but he walks you through it and makes sure you're comfortable. There are 4 performances and there are extra credit options with each one. He is a very understanding person and will help you if you're struggling. I loved being in his class.
Jody is a good professor. You are graded on three major performances, two exams, a paper, and a few small things here and there. He does not grade hard at all, you just have to work for your grade and practice. I had no experience with theater before this class but I still passed with 100%. All you have to do is memorize your script with emotions.
Doesn't seem to believe in As, but is very clear about his criteria for assignments. Very respectful, funny, great communicator. Great class, but just know you have to put the work in to do well.
By far my favorite instructor I've ever had. His class is hard, but if you work for it, you'll pass. Memorization is mandatory but he gives a lot of time in and out of class to work on memorization. He is very sarcastic and hilarious, there was never a dull moment in his class. He's wild, but in a good way.
SO much extra credit. I ended with 103% in the class. If you're comfortable with memorization and reciting stories with a little bit of acting, then you're fine. Says he grades hard, but if you act as if you put in effort he'll give you an A. If you're not into memorization/acting, you might want to take COM101 instead.
The most rude professor you could ever have. If you have anxiety/performance anxiety, dont expect to be respected. He thinks its all in your head and its something you can overcome. The most inconsiderate professor Ive ever had. Dont take his class if at all possible.
Hes super positive and funny. I loved this class but you do need to memorize for the performances but its a great class.
Not understanding with personal problems. Doesnt realize that a pandemic is going. Makes you memorize your performances while other professors let you read off a script. Doesnt understand the difficulty and mental drain of online classes.
This professor is so understanding and accommodating. Performance based classes used to be terrifying for me but the way he has his class structured has made it possible for me to do well. This professor loves when his students speak their mind. This is an easier class with fewer assignments. It can be a fun class if you make it one. Hyflex class
He's an odd guy but he's funny and everyone in my class has a good time. You will need to memorize speeches (1-3 minutes long) for this class but I think it's pretty easy. If you put in the effort you get a good grade. People saying he is inconsiderate, attendance is just mandatory.
An odd guy, very picky about grading. Makes weird and questionable remarks. Class is in general pretty simple, lots of extra credit, but memorization and attendance necessary.
The class can be fun depending on the people in it. This professor is a bit odd but a caring guy. Hes a bit tough when it comes to grading performances, and you cant use a script unless you want a B as your highest grade which isnt ideal. However he does offer extra credit throughout the course which is helpful and definitely recommended!
Jody was super cool and definitely an interesting teacher. Attendance is mandatory, but I never saw that as a problem. Memorization is 100% necessary to get an A in the class, so you have to put the work in. However, there are only 3-4 things you are graded on for presenting. Definitely take advantage of the extra credit for each unit.
Jody is a funny guy and makes the class pretty fun. You have to show up to class for a grade but he makes it enjoyable if you go in with an open mind. The coursework is very easy. As long as you take your time to memorize your performances more than a day before its your time to go, you should get an easy A.
This class was super easy and fun. He was a super great professor. You are graded on attendance. But, you get to earn a lot of extra credit with the speeches. Your only homework really is to memorize the speeches that you write.
There are 3 performances, memorization is required if you want a high grade but he won't be mad or embarrass if you need to use a script just expect a C on it. You have 2 books that you pick performances out of, you don't need to read the whole book! There is a little EC. Really nice guy, just make sure you get things in when they are due.
The course is made up of three performances, three peer reviews, attendance and a one-page paper. You have to memorize all three performances, if you use a script you can't get higher than a B. Jody preaches participation but will belittle students in front of the entire class if you say something slightly incorrect.
Attendance is very important to this class and professor, but as it is a speaking class, that makes sense. If you attend class and try (even just mild effort) you will pass this class with flying colors. The hardest part is memorizing the speeches, but they're all only 1 minute long anyways. Overall, he is fun to joke with, just show up.
For an introductory class the bar is fairly low, but Mr. Price tries to keep things entertaining throughout the semester. Your 3 performances are the central makeup of your grade, but he is lenient and accommodating. Show up to class and put in even the smallest amount of effort and you'll pass.
Attendance is mandatory and not showing up will be reflected in your grade. Communication is key and Jody is strict on email format. There are 3 main performances over the semester - about a minute long each. As long as you do well on those and attend class, you should get an A or B in this course.
JP was an okay professor. He has is quirky moments but also has times where he was serious. You have 3 performances during the semester and you have to memorize all of them. They are a 1 min long but if you hold a script in front of them you get a B or lower.
I personally really enjoyed JP. He loves theater and you can really tell. However, he does have unrealistic expectations for his students who don't have any performance background. You do three performances throughout the semester and they are graded fairly tough. You need to be nearly perfect to get an A on a performance. Memorization is a MUST!
If you do the work and go to class you will be fine. For TAI170 there's 3 performances, he's not a hard grader and they're only a minute long.
JP is a nice guy and is very passionate about what he teaches. If you're taking TAI 170 just to get the credit, take another professor it will be much easier. You have to be there every day and the lectures are a bit useless. There are professors that care less if you want the easy A. LOTS of reading and very little quiz prep (2 quizzes).
Jody is a great person and an ok professor. Attendance will affect the grade. There are three performances that the whole class is based around. Memorization is needed for a good grade, but he is quite clear in his expectations. Just know you will probably get out of your comfort zone as everyone has to perform by themselves in front of the class!
He was good
Cool guy but he is a very harsh grader.
This class was the one class I had that I looked forward to going to. JP is an amazing professor and just wants to hold a fun and interesting class! As long as you do the assignments and memorize your scripts, you will pass this class very easily and have made a new friend in the process. JP cares and wants to see you succeed - take this class!
JP was an awesome teacher. I enjoyed his class a lot more than I thought I would. I was scared at first because of the theater aspect, as I had no experience, but ended up being just fine. Even if you don't think you have good memorization skills, you will learn. I would take the course again and would recommend for people who need the credits!
JP was intimidating at first, but after the first couple of weeks he began to grow on me. I enjoyed this class much more than I thought I would. JP is funny and the course is easy. If you do not like speaking in front of the class, do not take this course, as it is required to speak in front of the class with no script by yourself.
Not a super easy class but also not hard by any means. Gives practically no homework week-to-week. You only need to work when there's a recitation coming up (only a few of these). Def do practice the recitations tho, they're a big part of the class. Never read the stories he assigned, not necessary. Really interesting class and pretty cool guy!
Jody's class is engaging but requires getting out of your comfort zone. Attendance matters, and the performance-focused assignments can be challenging but rewarding. Unstuck study AI and the free textbook are helpful study tools. Overall, a fun class if you're willing to put in the work.
I have never had a worse professor than Jody. He is a tough grader and if you are not good at speaking in front of people, you're failing this class. He doesn't understand that some people have stage fright or are unable to speak in front of a crowd. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU AREN'T A THEATER MAJOR. If I could give him a 0, I would
Price is a very interesting professor. He is very prideful with the material. Also, quite moody if something isn't to his liking, and then he takes it out on the students. I would recommend his class for your oral competency, but that's all.
JP was a great professor. Very little homework besides the 3 big performances, which do require memorization, so make sure you rehearse those. He gave out a lot of extra credit(about 10 points just for dressing nicely on your performance days). He isn't the harshest grader in my opinion, but theatre can be difficult to grade, so keep that in mind.
There is 4 performances you must do in the class including: show and tell, personal narrative, fiction, and poetry. For the fiction and poetry performance, you are required to act. Jody also requires during each performance for one of your peers to criticize it, and share how they felt you did with the class. Do not take if you don't like theatre.
Favorite class ever, I'm quiet and don't tend to talk to other people in class much but this class pushed me out of my bubble and helped a lot. It was a humors class and I never left in a bad mood if anything I left happier then when I first walked into the door.
JP was a really good professor who was also very fair. He was very dynamic and engaging, would recommend others to take his class.
There are two books you need for this class, but they were expensive at all. He gives out tons of extra credit. Most of my grade was keep so high with his extra credit. If you show up everyday to his class, he gives you 10 points of extra credit. He is a nice and fun teacher
Professor Price was funny, which made lectures super engaging. As long as you show up, do some reading, and try to memorize presentations, you will receive a good grade. He gives out a lot of extra credit, and in my opinion, is a pretty lenient grader.
Very caring, very approachable, wonderful feedback. Will help with any needs for performances, and is lenient on grades. He is tougher for those he knows can do a good job, and lenient for those who care a little (or a lot) less. Show up, do the work, and you'll easily pass.
JP is one of the best professors I have ever had. He was hilarious and built a really strong classroom community that I genuinely enjoyed going to. It wasn't as much a class as it was a place where everyone knew and understood each other. There were quite a few speeches and presentations but as long as you legitimately, try that's what matters.
Overall the class was pretty easy. He was very unprofessional and would talk poorly about students and use their names when talking to us about them. He is not understanding when there is a death in the family. He views his class as very important and that you should attend it over your grand fathers funeral.
Great professor! Wouldn't take if you are bad at memorizing. Memorizing is a main part of his grading system. Easy to talk to. Easy extra credit consistently throughout semester
For starters, this is a theater class meant for non theater majors. So it definitely requires you to step out of your comfort zone. If you aren't comfortable with memorizing poetry and short stories, or talking about the meaning behind them this won't be for you. He's not a tough grader, but graded "rehearsal days" aren't able to be made up.
