Really great teacher, earned an A in his class in the Winter.
really great teacher! i took him for 60B 50A and now 1A
Classes were fun and interesting. Very kind. Totally loved his class!! Highly recommend him!!
I had the pleasure of taking Mr. Anguiano's class a couple of years ago. His class was fun and interesting.
Willing to help each and every student, very clear in his teachings and an over all great course to take.
If you dont understand the material he will be glad to go over it with you. Dont be scared of his the way he appears he's nicer than he looks.
HE is the greatest teacher in the world i would have even invited him to my wedding. i learned alot from him im glad he is still teaching. people take him he is great!!!
He is one of those theachers that teach you a great lesson for life. I really enjoyed taking his class and most of all I actally learned and understod the material. I strongly reconmend his class.
this teacher does teach well, but he is a really hard grader on essays. but the easy quizzes make up for it.
He really cares about his students. He makes himself available to his students. He responds to emails quickly and he is very clear is willing to explain if at all unclear. He is a great eng teacher.
This was one of the best classes I took at RCC. He is very clear, and actually cares that his students are learning the material. You can tell that he is very passionate and knowledgable about his work. I had his summer school class, which was mostly essays, so if you dont like to write than watch out.
I love Mr. Anguiano!! he's soo sarcastic and funny!! I highly recommend him.
Approchable, knowledgable and quite entertaining; however, he is an agressive grader, and is a little too group-work happy for my personal tastes.
He is good for teaching, but if u want easy grade, then never take this guy. He is damm hard grader on essays.
I really liked him. He came across as unapproachable when I first met him, but as I got to know him he really taught me some things about writing that I have carried on with me. Take him he is a good teacher.
At first he was pretty intimidating, but once you get to know him and his confort zones he is a pretty chill teacher. He gives a lotof papers which total half your grade butthey are simple, simple 3-4 page papers. He also allows plenty of time to do the papers. There arealot of easy points he hands out if you go to class. Overall he's great!
This guy is hillarious and so sarcastic, he is the funniest and most down to earth english teacher I have ever had. He truly is concered with what you learn. A lot of essays in this class but all easy. Not much homework other then reading. I thought this class was super easy. Great guy!

very good professor, treats all students equally and is very fair on grading, if u want a balance between easiness and learning stuff, he is perfect
Very entertaining teacher that can teach you a lot about literature. The only flaw with this professor is the time he expects one to write a paper for him. There are a lot of papers to write, and I do not mind that, but the timming may sometimes give me a problem. Overall, he is a good professor.
He's a good teacher that's helpful. Take him during the summer it's much quicker if you don't like english.
very good prof, makes essays fun and has reasonable grading policy. perfect mixture of easiness and learning something
Mr. Anguiano is a good English teacher. Class attendance is mandatory but easy because we got in groups everyday. Not a hard grader but does not give much time to write papers.
He's a good teacher. He's clear on what he wants, he's fair, and his stories are fun.
Great teacher. Easy to understand, and helpful. Doesn't mind meeting with you to help if necessary. I don't really like English classes but I really enjoyed this one.
Easy to understand. Everything is made clear at the beginning of the semester in the syllabus. Fair grader, fun, makes the class interesting.
best english teacher i've ever had!!
Teaches well, but grades harshly. He does not give A's on papers, its just his way of doing things.
I have to admit that he is a good professor. However, he grades his paper really hard. If you have problems with grammars, dont take him for he really hates it. If you are English major then i guess he is a good one for you
Professor Anguiano is an awesome professor. I have to say that his class wasn't extremly easy. You defintly have to be in class to understand what is going on. He explains things very well, discussions are fun, and he makes class very interesting. I took him for 3 english classes and would defntly recommend him!!
This professor was excellent. I learned more in his class then I have in all my other classes put together. Great sense of humor too!
When i took him over the summer for 1a it was cake. the assignemts were easy topics to write about but he's very picky about grammer and word choice in papers. i also took him for 1b and that was a really tough class. the good thing is the longest paper can be as short as 5 pages. no crazy reasearch crap like other teachers
Great witty Professor that makes english interesting, not too difficult or easy, very informative and knows what he's talking about and is very helpful towards students
very difficult. he wants too much from people. you have an essay like every week and expects a rough draft in two days. most students get d's on their papers. this man sux and i recommend someone else.
He's an okay professor... Teaches well and has a good sense of humour. The class is pretty easy, in itself and the quizes are cake. But he has a strict grading policy and hardly ever gives out A's, and rarely B's.
HMMM, its hard to say with this guy. What every 1 says about his grading is somewhat true. He gives assigns 4 writing assignments which arent hard at all and theyre super easy. Hes a sarcastic man and if you got tuff skin then youll be alright. I got an A i the class and he surprises everyone with extensions on papers. I thought he was easy
LOVED HIM! you will get and easy "A" if you just do the work. Hes really funny also
Mr. Anguiano rocks! If you don't like literature he is still extremely helpful! He answers emails almost immediately. If you just show up to class it's really hard to fail. Take the time to listen and you'll really enjoy his class. I loved it! Oh and don't take his sarcasm seriously. He's just joking people!
He was a really cool teacher. He grades essays really hard but his notes are really helpful, and if you try in the class you will pass.
first of all he says the word OKaaaaaaaaaaayyy...every other word which gets annoying...he is super unsympathetic if you have to miss......his assignments are straight from the book and uninteresting....very cookie cutter...over all boring...i dropped out because he made me feel stupid....and his OKAAAAAAAAAYs were annoying as hell
LOVED HIM! got and A in english 50 and an A in english 1a plan on taking 1b with him also !!!
hes pretty tuff teacher i had to drop.. no choice no one was even getting good grades... the good thing is that he does let everyone rewrite their essays but he is strict.... i swear the first essay everyone either got a "c" or else failed... and for sure everyone rewrote that one.. i say good teacher but really hard but helpfull
very helpful! perhaps the most helpful english teacher ive ever had. his grading scale is out of 1000 points. he lets you re-write an essay if you got a bad grade on it. He grades pretty harsh on essays but you can still get an A. just come to class everyday, pay attention to the lectures and it will be a piece of cake. oh and he does give extra cr
Professor Anguiano is good, however he is a harsh grader in 1B. There is a certain model of writing that he likes and accepts as ?good writing?. Do not use over ambiguous words or elevated language in your papers. He says the idea is to communicate. Don?t ask stupid questions and don?t argue with him on pointless topics. Work hard, I got an A.
Had him as my teacher for 3 different English classes, up to 1B. Bases a lot of his material from the textbooks. Although it may seem a little slow at times, his teaching style kept me interested in whatever the class was learning. Nothing else to say that other people haven't say, but I recommend this teacher to all who want to learn and enjoy it!
that class made me sweat a lot, but i still enjoyed it. i took 1A with him and i got an A cause i worked hard....he is very helpfull and eventhough i got Cs in almost all of my papers, he still gave me a B. i recommend him if u want to have fun and learn at the same time, but u have to work hard
he is very eager to help the community and the students
dope professor! i was pissed when i got placed into eng50 rather than 1A. but honestly, i'm so thankful i took eng50 with him. i worked hard, did all my lab hours, and i got an A. but more importantly, i am going to get into 1A and do way better than if i hadn't taken him. answers e-mails immediately, even on the weekends. truly cares!
He is the best professor in English. I worked hard and I got what I believed I earned. English is not my subject. I spent most of my time in the writing center. I loved the movies and the controversy and the usage of tricky words like virtually what means not really.
His class is not easy but he is a great teacher. At the end of the class you'll know MLA like the back of your hand. He really challenges you to do your best. I would recomend this class to whoever wants to learn. He is always available for questions.
Enjoyed Mr. Anguiano-make sure U spell his name right. He strives 2 B a wordsmith. Sarcastic. He's a great teacher, but he would be superb if he got off the Latio tangent. Overall a great teacher-don't expect easy class. Chances R you'll probably never get above a 90 on writings but if do everything else and xtra credit you'll do just fine.
He was an alright professor. As long as you do all of your work on time and the way he wants it you'll do fine. I just didn't like him cause his teaching style didn't work for me. The essay topics were too boring and vague for me to care.
Although he is very good in explaining the course material, he is extremely hard in grading. He reads every paper twice before grading. If you plan to take his class, prepare yourself to do some real hard work!
a good guy outside of the classroom, but his teaching style wasn't for me. His lectures were long & boring, and he was very sarcastic/rude to students. He is really hard on grading essays too! English is my best subject BUT i struggled with his class.
Great professor. He is very clear with what he expects from his students and is always willing to talk with and help his students. His grading scale is out of 1000 points. Come to class, and you'll pass--guaranteed. He is polite and really cares for each and every one of his students. Take the class seriously and you'll do well.
Terrible teacher. Same structure every day in class. Never sought to bring about a fresh way to teach the class. Never brought papers back on time. Got side-tracked with 1 question for to long. Ran out of time. Blamed the class for many things and was quite rude to the class by critiquing essays like he still works for his old jobs. hard class
Mr. Anguiano is a good teacher if you like English, or if english is your major, but if not, you wont enjoy. Hes very sarcastic, makes his political views known (bleeding heart liberal), and grades hard! he is good at explaining what he wants tho. Dont miss class!
He has a sense of humor. I never found him to be rude though. His grading is very thorough but he tells you EXACTLY what he wants on his papers and basically tells you what to wright. Do the readings because those are the easiest points to get when he tests you on them, those points will also help boost you're overall grade as well.
Took him during summer 13 and it was a pretty tough class but as long as you do what he tells you, it's not TOO hard. Overall, a lot of people got C- or D+ on their papers but if you have a middle C average for papers you will most likely get a B in the class if you do good on the quizzes and turn in the easy points i.e. journals and lab hours.
A very nice and helpful guy, but a strict grader. If you are just trying to pass, this class is not for you. The tests are very easy. If you make 6 spelling typos your essay will automatically be a D. Very stressful class for such a easy subject.
This professor is impossible. Wrote "your logic and language dont support your logic" He is an impossible grader when it comes to his essays.
He is a hard grader but will improve your writing. I came in feeling like I could write a B paper and ended up getting D's like everyone else. He uses the book ALOT so have them. He is a hard grader, 6 spelling and grammar mistakes and your essay is a D on it. But over time you will be able to understand what you need to work on.
Prof was a fair grader, cares about his work. He is hard but understandably so. Good sense of humor and willing to accommodate as best as he can.
Great professor! I wouldn't stress out on how he grades you get what you deserve. I would suggest proof reading all essays before turning them in. Read your textbook participate in all class. If you expect an easy A do not take his class.
Really good teacher and very helpful. Can be a tough grader on essays, but overall a great class to take with this professor. Answers any questions a student may have, but can be sarcastic at times.
Mr. Anguiano is great professor. He is dedicated to his lectures and teachings. I had a tough time in my first couple of essays in ENG-1A, but I kept trying to get better and my writing skills improved a lot. He is tough grader, but its for his students'academic success. I took both of his courses in Fall '10 and Spring '11
I'm an international student. I had a hard time not to have grammar errors on an essay because if there's 6 spelling miss(sometimes it's not really spelling miss but it's marked as spelling miss), the essay will automatically be a D. I found that it is almost impossible for me. Except the essays, he is very chill. I only had quizzes, no test.
He's an extremely hard grader, I've never gotten a D on a paper until I came into his class
Although he is slightly a tough grader, professor Joe Anguiano is very helpful. You can tell he enjoys teaching. If you have any questions, he has no problem answering them. He's a great professor, really knows his stuff. His prompts are clear and if there is any confusion he'll clear it up. I recommend taking his class.
Hotty McHotterson
Professor Anguiano is a great english teacher. He was quick to offer help and respond to any emails quickly. He was a tough grader but very clear on what he did and did not want in your writing. Participate in class and get all of your easy points done(not very hard, and gives extra credit) and you'll be sure to pass. Definitely recommend him!:)
He should be an editor instead of a college professor, choosing him to be your professor is equal to suicide; if you need a good GPA to transfer to UCs, DO NOT pick him, he IS going to ruin your life. Extra tags: Grammar Nazi, Impossible Essays, Auto D for 6 of any mistakes in essays, Useless Syllabus, Master of Discouragement, Ignore Your Efforts.
If you want to transfer to any UCs, DO NOT CHOOSE HIM. Giving Ds to your every essay while despises obvious efforts; even you got an A from 1A. I use to love poetry, drama, etc. Now I am totally discouraged and hate literature since I study in his class. For the student who already signed to his class, drop it, before he ruin your life and GPA.
So I have taken Eng 50, and Eng 1A here at the campus and passed with a breeze. This class is challenging, You are constantly going to be writing papers through out the semester, and he is a tough grader. You will not get that A easily on that paper unless this is your passion. He is very critical.
Grades papers harshly. Very contradicting. Doesn't help much with essays, just gives broad answers. I regret taking him even though I still got a B.
Long papers and super tough graders. Can be very confusing I receive Ds on a few of the papers. He holds you to a high standard and expects that you will deliver. I did learn a lot from him and I am grateful for it. The class can be very discouraging.
From day one he is very clear on what he expects. Always encourages students to ask questions no matter what. He is a tough grader on essays but so many people on this have exaggerated! Do the work as he says, and on time and you'll pass. But of course it can't all depend on him. You have to put in the effort with Anguiano but it's not impossible.
He gives support when you ask and he will respond to emails usually within the hour even on weekends. There are two textbooks that you need you WILL NOT PASS without them. He says exactly what he means, pay attention to prompt wording. He is a very tough grader but you learn a lot of useful things. Unlike essays the tests are short and open book.
Great teacher ! He is a tough grader but he gives you all the info you need. Helped me a lot to become a better writer just ask for help and he will help. Do your essays. And lab hours you should be fine. Goodluck
For having difficulty in English he is extremely helpful will answer email at anytime never had a professor that is passionate about teaching English
Tough grader, he turns your paper into a art show. Will correct everything and anything that is wrong with you paper. Does make things clear and will have some fun in class, but be prepared to write and write a lot. 5-6 papers maybe even more. If you're a good writer then it'll be a little easier, but if you struggle with writing be careful.
Really tough grader. Used to be LA Times Newspaper editor. I used to be a very creative writer but his constant markings and lack of appreciation of improvement really brought me down. I wanted to write less just so he can stop marking so much on my paper. Taking English 1A now and even my current professor said he was too hard on all of us.
I would take his class again if I could ! He cares so much about his students and wants them to all gain knowledge about English. His work can be a little difficult but it made me a better writer.
He is challenging. He gets you out of your comfort zone. He is accessible outside of the classroom. I took Anguiano during Winter semester and it was hell. Yes, we wrote A LOT of papers and I did not get sleep on the first day, but he is truly a great professor. Feedback on my graded papers was helpful. I enjoyed his class.
Professor Anguiano is a great teacher and he really knows what he is talking about. He gives good feedback all you have to do is ask. His classes are primarily group based so you have to make sure your work is done on time so you can participate. He also gives out plenty of essays, 5 to be exact. His quizzes are simple. All you have to do is try.
Professor anguiano was one of the best Ive had for any English class. Beware that his grading is harsh but he gives you all the tools you need to help you improve. I thought my English skills were excellent but he gave me a C on my first paper. I was devastated but he tells you how to make it better and if you follow it youll do great!
very good professor. good lectures and very clear on what he wants . Quizes are easy. lets u make 1 essay paper up. lots of extra credit. work in groups . tough grader on essays but you learn alot from him!
Just do the work an you will be fine.
This class is four units for a reason. But I wouldn't want any other professor. He literally taught me how to write and is a tough grader. FOLLOW HIS RULES. He gives great feedback and always tells you how to fix something or how to improve. A lot of reading but he is a very caring professor.
Get ready to write!!!!! 5 essays, easy grader just follow his prompts! very caring and helpful to students. READ THE SYLLABUS! KEEP the syllabus like a bible!!!!!!!!!! do your essays and each drafts. do your journals and DLAs he gives extra credit and he never fails a student if you did your work!
He is a tough grader, but he tells you exactly what he wants. There is 4 short (2 pages or more) and 2 long papers (5 pages or more). There was reading and journals almost everyday, and you have to do all journals to receive credit. You are only allowed to miss 2 workshops and 2 classes or you will be dropped. Just do the work and you will pass.
He grades over the top and ridiculously. I did all my essays and got decent grades and did all my work i was supposed to do and failed the class. His class is the soo boring and i cant empathize this enough, he tries so hard to act like hes funny, hes redundant, annoying and the list goes on. Save yourself the drama and dont take his class!!
He grades papers very harshly. If you're looking for an easy or fun class this is definitely NOT it. He is useless when it comes to asking him for help on papers. His lectures are VERY boring and always goes off on tangents.
Professor Anguiano Is great! Funny guy and really cares about his students learning. Tons of essays but very helpful, answers emails very quickly . Every professor has their quirks and his is saying ok a lot and he repeats his side notes/ stories a ton! So be prepared for unnecessary extra info. Gives extra credit and you can redo two essays!
He took the time to make sure that you know what you are doing, and answered any and all questions during class and after hours. He ALWAYS answers emails in a timely fashion. Such a great help!
OMG WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE TAKEN IN MY WHOLE COLLEGE CAREER. If I could give him a zero, I would. He did not grade none of my papers that I redid for credit. You do weekly quizzes and classwork for NOTHING, he does not even add it to your grade. He only grades papers which he is so tough on. He's mean, sarcastic and so many other things."Get OUT"
What do you expect from an English class? You're going to write several papers which are not all that bad as long as you follow the prompt and turn in everything he asks you too. Do the work, show up and try, and you should pass the class. I personally think he was rated too harshly and he should be given a chance.
Great professor! I took this course in the fall of my first semester. He is kind and is willing to help you, always answers emails. There is a lot of writing so be prepared for that, but follow the prompt and you'll pass the class. Ask questions!! He will tell you what he is looking for.
One of the best English teachers I've ever had. He's funny, caring, relaxed in class and quick to email back. He's a pretty slow grader but he gives really good feedback on how to improve papers and writing skills. The class is heavy on group readings, but they provided good feedback and a close/relaxed learning environment. Highly recommend.
He's arrogant and expects things to be done his way when he does not give clear instructions. When you do something wrong you will be blamed and need to redo the assignment. When you ask for help, he'll only refer you to the textbook instead of answering your questions. Took him in a 6 week class and had 6 essays + weekly hw and quizzes. Avoid!!
I would not recommend this teacher to anyone especially if you struggle with English like me. He is a very tough grader, annotates essays but doesnt suggest things you can fix as a student. I would suggest looking for another teacher. I completed each and every assignment to my best ability but It just really wasnt no where near enough for him.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. He's horrible (would rate him a -5 star). I always try to be as polite as possible in my emails, but he doesn't. His replies don't even make sense. He didn't even check if it was his fault & assumed it's mine. He turns negotiation into a "debate", provides no help whatsoever, sounds arrogant, I can go on all day. AVOID HIM!!!
He is a great professor and very understanding.
I took this professor's ENG-50 class a total of four times; this was due to my OWN failure. I will conclude by saying that English 1A and English 1B are MUCH easier than Anguiano's English 50 class; Though it is difficult, it is the best preparation for succeeding English courses.
You can tell he loves his job. He wants everyone to succeed. Yes, the workload can be much but it helps you become a better writer. He answers every question and NEVER makes you feel like you asked a dumb question. He's not the type to say "go look at the syllabus". He comes from experience and nothing beats that. I definitely recommend.
Dont take him. Why? This class is English1a. General Ed. The final paper this guy assigns is 7 pages! Ridiculous. There is absolutely nothing a professor can ascertain about a students ability to write proficiently in 7 pages that a decent English teacher couldnt have determined in 4 or 5 pages. The guy is a joke
If you're bad at writing essays, you will fail this class. The final is 8 pages, with a works cited, checklists, 4 rough drafts/final draft, outline, and you also have to get it initialed by peers in your class. You have 5 essays to do within a short time period. His zoom lectures are boring. You will fall asleep. He argues. He hands out 0's lmao.
"It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it." Sums up Professor Anguiano perfectly. He pushes you and makes you think, read, and write a lot more than others, but he does this in order to sharpen and prepare you to be a more competent writer and student. A 10 page research paper at CSUF isn't scary after taking ENG1A.
Tough but worthwhile. Professor Anguiano pushes you to read, write, and think more than other courses. Though challenging, it prepares you for college-level work. Unstuckstudy was a great study aid alongside the textbook.
