Great instructor. Very bright. Very smart.
Joe is really smart on word of mouth marketing...in fact all facets of marketing. He really taught me a lot.
He gives you relevant information and always keeps you on your toes.
He's very smart on social media.
Knows social media very well. Some group projects and case studies. A good class overall, but nothing earth-shattering.
I learned a lot from him!~
He has a lot of enthusiasm for the subject, is always prepared and really gets you to stretch your thinking.
Joe is an amazing teacher and a great guy. He helped me to overcome my fear of public speaking, though it wasn't easy. His classes are fun, but you must spent lots of time preparing.
Joe Barnes is great at teaching marketing. Don't be intimidated by his grading scale. He is reasonable in grading. I actually enjoyed his classes and videos he showed.
Great professor. Overall an inspiringm and awesome professor that I recommend to anyone. His class is not hard but not easy an A either. It requires a lot of reading from the textbook and a long research project that helps you develop communication skills--both written and verbal.
Joe is very smart, on top of the latest trends, very dynamic, knows social and digital media along with mobile marketing. Top professor.
Very helpful and caring teacher. Class was amusing and fun to attend.
Joe is very passionate about social media, which makes the class exciting. He continuously asked for feedback, and even changed the schedule to accomodate our class' opinion on subject matter that was more interesting to us. He clearly loves his job and wants to keep his students happy, which plenty of professors could learn from!
Amazing teacher, amazing person.
One of the best professors I have ever had! He is beyond knowledgeable when it comes to proper business communication and marketing. I am definitely taking his MKTG 350 class! I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND taking Professor Barnes!
Joe Barnes is an amazing teacher. I have him right now. He is passionate about the subject and very kind to his students. If you show you pay attention in class and practice your speeches before you deliver them you will do well. I have an A in the class right now and have never gotten less than 100% on an assignment. GREAT teacher.
Definitely take this guy whenever you can. He is an amazing professor and helpful outside of class as well. Always listens to your every word. His class was quite challenging. You will have to study to have an A and it's not hard. Overall, an A+ professor.
Great teacher. If you pay attention to details, you will get a great mark. Really good at teaching. I think that he help a lot and best for marketing
He definitely loves his job and his students, is very knowledgable. What else do you possibly need from a professor, right? Take his class.
All he teaches are carp. Not an easy grader. He always reduce lots of points on grammar. Don't expect a high grade from his class.
There aren't enough good words to describe Professor Barnes. Fantastic teacher who truly cares about his students and makes it clear that it his job to serve YOU as a student. Show up to class, study for the quizzes and you will get an A or an A-. No textbook, but he provides pdf copies of chapters in his modules. Very approachable and friendly.
Joe led a fantastic introduction to marketing for me. He got me really excited about my major (marketing). He has a variety of experiences in marketing, teaches at multiple universities (online classes as well), and is very well connected. He puts effort into his relationships and is very accessible and the best part is he's a great communicator.
Fantastic class. The lectures weren't always the most interesting, but just by showing up, you were getting points, so it was worth it!
Mr. Barnes makes you work for your grade but he genuinely cares about each and every student. He loves teaching and it shows. He even keeps his office in the lobby of the business building to be accessible. He is interesting, informative and cares.
Professor Barnes is the best professor I have ever had. He genuinely cares about every student.
He is the best professor I have ever had, in fact the best teacher ever. He comes prepared, knows the course well, generated enthusiasm and participation by everyone in the class, and we all learned from him.
He is always willing to go the extra mile for his students both in and out of the classroom! He maintains supportive relationships with his past students and is readily available by email and/or to meet in person! He has helped me many times on extracurricular projects long after I have completed his class! 10/10 would recommend!
Prof Barnes cares deeply about his students, more than any professor I have ever had. He is there before class, after class, available by phone and email 7 days a week. He pushes us to think about our role in business and what kind of leaders and communicators we want to be. He motivates and inspires.
Professor Barnes is a great professor! He really cares about his students and loves doing what he does. He is passionate about what he teaches and makes sure to go the extra mile to help put his students. He brings in so many amazing people as guests to give everyone a deeper understanding of the business world. I would definitely take again!
He's a really nice teacher. He's friendly and I'd take his class again
Professor Barnes is the best professor I've ever had. His class is inspirational and impressive. He truly cares about every single student in class.
BEST TEACHER EVER
Joe is amazing, I would take any of his courses just to be taught by him again. A really great guy and the class was pass or fail, so I never worried about it. Easy to pass if you just show up.
Professor Barne is truly amazing. He cares each of his students a lot. He is always there to help you. As long as you turn in your homework and be in class on time, you will for sure pass the class.
Wow. What a great professor. Take any class that he offers. He teaches about the real world and what you will encounter in the workforce.
Barnes is bae. Literally loved his class so much, especially how he always has an inspirational quote slideshow playing with music when you walk in. He genuinely cares about his students and their success in business. I highly recommend taking him. Papers are easy and enjoyable. He is the best!
Very fun and caring professor. The class is a breeze. Class time is all lecture/speaker based, but other than that its really easy. Barnes is a great person to talk to and is a genuinely kind being.
Overall a pretty chill professor. His lectures were interesting and quite enjoyable. Odds are that you will like him due to his sheer niceness and he also clearly states his standards for assignments.
Professor Barnes's lectures are taken from his experience as a professional. He really cares about his students' success. I would recommend taking his class! You will learn a whole lot! :)
Very inspirational and insightful, great. Show up!
He's a great lecturer. He tells very inspiring and motivating stories. Come to class and do the homeworks and you are almost guaranteed to the pass. He also invites a lot of guest speakers to give you a better understanding of the all the business fields.
Joe is a professor who wants all of his students to succeed. He uses his experiences to teach and is always available to help you out. There is no BCOM textbook required, he posts all the readings on canvas. Do the readings, show up to class, and you'll get a good grade.
Joe is an awesome human being! He really wants his students to succeed and brings a lot of real world experience to the table. He is flexible as long as you talk to him prior to things. Some assignments are pointless but overall he's awesome.
Joe legitimately wants what's best for his students, so he'll give you useful feedback, lots of opportunities to participate, and even help finding a postgrad job (if he likes you). So long as you come to class, speak up every once in a while, and demonstrate effort on your group projects, you can get an A+.
BUAD feels like a useless course for a transfer junior. Attendance is mandatory since its an easy pass/fail course. Dont get the textbook, you dont need it. Be prepared for a class where he tries his best to pump you up at 8am and tosses motivational videos at your face. Also, there is a group project. GET A GOOD GROUP!!
Such a great teacher!! Very recommended. Essays weren't really that hard and i got a full mark for all of the essay. Group presentations weren't hard as well. Just make sure you find the right team members!
Professor Barnes is a great man. The class itself isn't hard as long as you complete the assignments on time (by 12:00am the day its due) and do the group project. He often brings in guest speakers and shares his own personal stories. You can tell he really cares about his students.
He's an awesome professor! I learned a lot from him in his BCOM class and he gives good feedback. You get what you put into it though. It is easy to slack off but I don't recommend it.
Therell be homework every week but it isnt time-consuming. Just make sure you come to class, do the homework, and participate for the group project.
The only difficult thing about this class is that you gotta show up by 8AM. Be late and considered absence, absent twice and fail the class. It is all about attendance. He invites speakers most of the lectures and is quite a motivator. Would get more from his class if I didn't show up with a tank on my head (I had to wake up by 5.45 for this class)
Professor Barnes is very inspirational, always willing to lend a helping hand to his students. There are papers assigned almost every class, but they are simple and are usually one-page papers, based on your own opinions. Make sure to cite everything in APA format. There is no need for the textbook, we never talked about its contents.
He's perfect. Very inspirational! Don't need to say more or it will become abundant.
Definitely one of the best professor I've taken in my life. I took this online class and he always grades papers on time, give constructive feedback and make clear grading criteria. Exams are easy and he'll test you of what has been covered in class.
Joe Barnes is very clear on his expectations and if you do as he asks you will pass. He also is very kind and loves all of his students very much so if you're having any trouble in his class he WILL help you. He doesn't even have an office he wants to make himself super accessible so he's out in the lobby all the time. Take his class!
Professor Barnes was an excellent professor to take for your first Albers Integration class. What I loved most about his class is that he would show inspirational/feel good vidoes at the end of every class. He is very down-to-earth, and is honest to his students about "entering the business world". Definitely taking him again if I get the chance!
The best!
If you can, I highly recommend you take a class from Professor Barnes. He will help you succeed no matter where you are at academically, and always ends class with inspirational videos
i highly recommend people to take a class from Professor Barnes.
Professor Barnes was good teacher! I had him for Business Integration and everything was asynchronous, so you basically had to learn yourself, however, if you had any confusions or need clarification he does respond back fast. He care for his students, and understanding. Most of the work were discussions and weekly papers, but they are not so bad.
He's a great person and genuinely cares about you doing well. He gives feedback on every assignment, no matter how you did. Being that it was an online class, there was a lot of reading and watching videos. The assignments weren't difficult and the discussions were helpful.
I really enjoyed his class. This was an early morning lecture but he was always enthusiastic and made it interesting. He brought in a few guest speakers which was nice. His syllabus is well organized and the grading his clear. His feedback is helpful. You can only skip a few classes to be able to pass the class so beware.
BUAD 1000 is the first business course I took upon arriving at SU. This class was taken asynchronously during the fall 2020 quarter. I loved the class structure and thought the textbook choice was useful. I enjoyed learning about the different fields to Business which really helps when deciding on a major.
Professor Barnes is the perfect professor for all beginner-business students. He's caring and makes sure to not overwhelm you. I took his BUAD1000 class, and even though it's Pass/Fail, he always made us want to work hard to do our best in his class, for our own personal sake! :)
The best professor I have ever met in SeattleU. If you can take this professor's class, please don't hesitate.
barnes cares a lot about his students and he will tell you that too. great and funny guy, class was simple and youll learn valuable info.
Joe makes it clear that he cares for all of us individually (like really clear). He's really knowledgeable as he's been in the workforce for a while. There is a textbook, but you really don't have to read it because it says pretty basic stuff. The final project is really easy and I'd suggest finishing it early before midterms/finals
Joe is one of the nicest teachers at SU. He really cares about everyone and will go out of his way to help you and make sure that you are ok. Very supportive and kind and he just wants everyone to become the best person that they can possibly become.
If you show up and turn in your homework you'll surely get an A.
One of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Really cares about his students. He's a really interesting guy and super qualified. His class is easy but you will learn a lot.
I cannot recommend Joe Barnes' class enough! He is such a wonderful professor. He uses various media types to present information, he encourages participation but does not apply pressure, and the course content is very applicable to my daily professional life. TAKE HIS CLASS! He also has great music taste :)
Joe loves hes students. He is tough something but that's only because he wants us to learn. Hes lectures are very fun and many videos. Discussions post due day before you have him, but they're fairly easy. Papers for BCOM were very challenging to write. He's very easy to reach when you need help with something.
It is very obvious that he cares about his students and he gives good feedback on all assignments. Overall, as long as you show up for class and do the weekly discussion post, you'll be good.
Joe Barnes is the goat. Super understanding, gives great feedback after every discussion post (2-3 posts a week). Midterm was based on common knowledge (in my opinion) and projects took some effort but relatively doable. Always shows inspirational video at the end of class. Usually ends class early. Wants us to do well.
Barnes is a fantastic professor. His grading criteria and lesson plans are very clear. The content and assignments are not too difficult if you can properly plan ahead. The course has a decent amount of reasoning but it is manageable. Would definitely recommend.
He is one of the best professors on this campus. The assignments were manageable and there were a couple projects, mostly at the end of the year. Would highly recommend.
He cares about his students and the class is manageable. Hoping to take more classes taught by Dr. Barnes.
Professor cared about the success of students and made this clear throughout the course. There were discussion posts due before every class, but are simple to get full credit on if you follow the requirements listed in the post. Final project does use random groups so make sure to get in contact with your group as soon as possible.
This is an easy class to get an A in, all you need to make sure of is to submit your answer in all the discussions posts on time (before midnight) otherwise you get an immediate zero. It's easy to accidentally miss a discussion post or two and have your grade turn from an A to a B-. Also he doesn't allow any electronics out so no laptops or iPads.
Joe Barnes is a staple of the Albers Business School. He cares a ton and is always very kind and willing to help you out. His assignments aren't difficult but he does assign a larger volume of them. Clearly a very passionate professor.
He is a very caring professor and provides good and useful information. Participate!
Very kind and knowledgable Prof! Class was lecture-heavy and daily homework was a discussion post. The final was a group project on an assigned business, which was not too hard. He always ends class with something positive and definitely cares about every student he has. Prof Barnes is a great person and I would recommend taking his courses.
His grading criteria was very confusing and he is a very harsh grader so be careful. Will take hella points off for small formatting mistakes, and formatting criteria is not listed under the assignments or syllabus. While there is a lot of explanation under the assignment, none of it pertains to the actual format or expectations he is looking for.
Professor Barnes is great. He is really caring and is always accessible if you need him outside of class. The class gives great life advice and he has a lot of helpful guest speakers to guide you throughout your business experience. Just do the homework and follow all the directions and you'll be fine.
Genuinely cares about students.
W teacher. Felt like he graded more off of participation than actually how you did on the assignment. Midterm and final were online on canvas. HW was easy. A few presentations in class. One of the easiest classes at SU and probably one of the most caring teachers at the whole campus. Willing to answer any questions you may have.
I loved Professor Barnes. Super caring and a genuinely helpful person. He always wants the best for his students and is such an empathetic person. I would highly recommend him to anyone who has the opportunity to take him. He also is a very gracious grader and takes the time out of his day to really explain the material being presented.
Cares about his students and is very involved on campus. He wants effort. Lectures were hard for me to sit through since it's long & there's a strict no electronics policy. There's also mandatory outside events you must attend for an assignment every week which was overwhelming at times. Overall, great professor and I'd take again.
worst teacher i have ever had
