great teacher! made class very interesting...taught standing on the desk...very funny
I had Prof. Boyle for sociology and criminolgy. His classes aren't exactly easy, but if you study, the tests are not that bad. He makes class interesting and funny. He's a great guy and he has the whole hot teacher thing going for him.

really funny guy...his class is so much fun...i highly recommend taking him
Great Teacher!! He was so funny and very helpful, there is so much oppertunity for extra credit and help. As long as you study before the test and pay attention you'll do fine, I would def recomend him, and he's a cutie.
Boyle is a great teacher. There should be more teachers like him. He gave a lot of extra credit and assignments instead of just grading based on tests. Although its not so easy, its really manageabel. Hes also rally funny and makes class really fun.
great
Criminology class..he got mad when ever someone contested his opinions or political views and he cracks off topic jokes for at least an hour. The class had potential to be good but thanks for makin g it boring and studying repetetive theories for 16 weeks.
Great guy and a great teacher!
Really funny guy....wants us to learn. Can be hard at times. Really wants us to think.
Has a good teaching style, incorporates everyday issues, not boring

You have to be really stupid not to do well in his class.....pay attention, take notes, study and you will do well. Dont expect to not do anything and get an a.
Really pushes you to learn. I took his Criminology class and enjoyed it so now I'm taking Sociology as well. Great teaching methods and I have to agree with what someone else already said,he's definitely a cutie.
he's such an awesome teacher! his teaching was interesting and fun. i also think he's hot!
Boyle is a beast! His lectures are funny and imformative, and he encourages us to think for ourselves.
He talks about today's topic's but if I heard one more story about his days in VA, I was going to through a garden rake at him! I got a D because i gave up he was boring. he did npt let people participate. he has selective questions. He does not like discussions unless its about what wants to hear!
Great teacher, hates G. Bush and his addministration. He's smart, funny, and helpful in and out of class. A "think out side the box" kind of guy. He once tought the whole class while standing on a desk in the back of the room to prove a point about rules and what is normal and what is not.
good teacher if u go to class then u can be sure to very well in his class. he is not to strict about attendance, gives lots of extra credit, and pretty much tells u what is on the tests
I thought I was going to hate sociology--now I want to major in it! Terrific teacher, really interesting and fun lectures that don't just regurgitate what's in the textbook.
AWESOME!!! take his class! do his work and come to class = def. A! kinda cute too!
Great teacher...had him twice already, once for Criminology and now for Sociology. His class is interesting and definitly worth attending. His grading is fair and he's definitly willing to help in and out of class to insure a good grade.
very liberal.. should keep his political views to himself
He is a great professor. He's the best I've had at Brookdale.
easy class
I took him for a summer class and he was great! As long as you go to every class and take notes there is no way that you should fail, he gives so much extra credit and the notes are exactly what is on the test plus he even gives you a study guide!!
awsome teacher, funny....best class to take...he's actually interesting, knows how to teach!!!
This guy is awesome.. hes really easy but at the same time will teach you a lot. his classes are great and i try to get them whenever possible. You should really take his classes just do soem work you got an A no doubt!!
Awesome guy. Real funny and just loves to keep a laid back class setting. Out of all the sociology teachers i've had he's definetly the best. Not to mention he doesnt give that much homework and his "projects" are real easy.
Joe is an interesting person who's lectures will stick with you on human behavior & social status. .. Really worth finding his name in the lists.

He was a great teacher! i would so take him again!
such a nice guy. took him twice. teaches you alot and he is very educated. doesnt give homework which is good. test are a little tricky but as long as u study you'll do fine.
He's a really funny and easy teacher. Easy A for sure. He's a BIG TIME democrat tho and he needs to keep his opinions to himself, he doesnt realize how many ppl he's offending in class.
VERY strange individual. It's an easy A though.
Great class. He's not boring and usually lets you out early. Works on a grading system so you can track your grades. Test aren't the easiest, but if you know what is going on in class and study the review sheet you will do fine. Papers take minimal effort to write.
Excellent Excellent teacher always there when you need him
THIS GUY IS ONE OF THE WORST PROFESSORS I HAVE HAD AT BROOKDALE. EVERYTHING IN HIS LECTURES HAD TO DO WITH PUTTING LAW ENFORCEMENT DOWN. I GUESS HE DOSE NOT REALIZE THAT MOST OF THE PEOPLE TAKING THAT CLASS WANT TO BE IN LAW ENFORCEMENT.
one word PSYCHO
Same grading system for all classes. Great teacher, great guy. If you missed something in class, he has no problem going over it next week. Grading system very easy to follow. I've taken 3 SOCI classes and now taking criminology with him.
He is cool and funny. Very easygoing. Lectures are interesting, but they don't cover all of the questions on the test so you have to read the text. You have to write an article assignment and a movie review, both of which are easy.
Joe Boyle is a very nice professor. Lecture is to-the-point and interesting. However, make sure to take clear notes or tests can be difficult!
VERY HARD GRADER. I TOOK HIM ONLINE AND WOW HE GAVE WAY TO MUCH WORK TO DO. DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT AN EASY TEACHER OR IF YOU NEED A GOOD GRADE BECAUSE IF YOU PASS YOUR LUCKY.
Nice guy. Not a hard grader at all. You just have to read the textbook, take good notes in class. He gives extra credit by just being there and handing in a question, and you also have to make up ten practice questions before each test. Two papers and three tests. He's very intelligent and knows his stuff. Do work; you will get a good grade
Same grading system for all classes. Great teacher, great guy. If you missed something in class, he has no problem going over it next week. Grading system very easy to follow. I've taken 3 SOCI classes and now taking criminology with him.
Great Class. Wish we were told what Chapter we were in and had a review before tests. Explained all theories to best of his ability so good on that part. Very good!
way too politically biased. His opinionated liberal preaching made the class unenjoyable, especially his insults directed towards the other party. He is also a very tough grader, avoid at all costs.
He is very hard, took him in sociology and criminology (online). Everything matters in his class. Tests are the key and I am a horrible test taker. He is a very liberal person, and so am I, but many things he is wrong at and goes by theories more than relity. If you get a C, consider yorself lucky. HARD CLASS!
I took Criminology online with Professor Boyle. He is a very hard grader. Tests matter, online discussions are the ke, and when he sees you online a little less you will get 6/8 maximum. He is extremely hard and takes his work seriously. Not an easy A. A hard C would be the case with him. If you want an easy A, I advise you not to take this teacher
Great professor. He doesn't waste time with presentations, etc. It is my type of class, where you just sit back, relax, and listen to the lecture--which are very interesting and enjoyable, by the way. I worked pretty hard to get an A, but the work isn't overwhelming.
<3crazy but either love him or hate him, there is no in between...
I really enjoyed Dr. Boyle's class. I learned a lot and he was very interesting. You do have to do the reading to survive.
Dr. Boyle is a great guy. He really helped me get through criminology. There were a few cop-wannabe-poser jerks in class, but he tries to listen to their idiot remarks. Many of my classmates just wanted a free ride. Dr. Joe is one of the best professors I have had
he is definitely passionate about criminology. i feel he is very politically incorrect & tries hard to be cool. and FAILS. he doesn't look ppl in the eye when he talks to them. tests are HARD. you have to use your book! study a lot and you get a good grade. not an easy class
cool teacher but didnt really learn anything..tests were hard..he didnt make sense on what he was talking about
Dr. Boyle was very nice. You can tell he really loves sociology and especially environmental issues. He does expect you to read the textbook.
I enjoyed Prof. Boyle's class very much so. I believe he is very passionate about his field. He is a professional in a rare field and there aren't many like him out there. He does stray and get sidetracked every so often. Study Study Study for his exams. A lot of content is covered in this class in 1 semester! Good Luck
I really enjoyed his class. He helped me a lot.
I had Dr. Boyle twice for SOCI 101 and CRJU 245. He is the nicest person if you try to interact with him. I had him for an online class and he helped as many in the class stopped participating. He made sure I did well.
he is nice, and somewhat funny. but i didnt like him as a teacher. tests were hard and class discussions had nothing to do with what we learned. i wouldnt recommend him.
Don't be fooled by the positive comments.Avoid the online class. All he does is get paid to assign work and deadlines yet he expects you to be logged in for the same amount of time as a regular class. He does not grade papers and forums the way his syllabus says he will.He cares about quantity over quality with the posts. Avoid his online classes!
I had Dr. Boyle for SOCI 101 this summer. i found him to be a very nice professor. He actually wrote a letter for me to transfer.
I really enjoyed Professor Boyle's class. He was really knowledgable and helped me a lot. He is funny tool
I had this teacher twice the same semester and both were online classes. DO NOT take this professor. He is extremely difficult and hard
I took the juvenile delinquency online class with Dr. Boyle over the summer. Very fair teacher, and very fair grader. What he expects from you is very clear. The class requires effort. If you do your readings, post your blogs in a timely matter, and know how to write a decent paper, there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to get an A.
I like Dr. Boyle. He was very nice to me. He was a bit corny, but overall I learned a lot.
Boyle is incredible. He really encourages you to think like a sociologist. He spews a lot of "negative" statistics at you, but it's not to discourage you, it's to say the odds are against you, but life is a competition and it's up to you to beat the odds. Hes a fascinating guy and I learned more about life in his class than anything else.
His class is very interesting. The material is hard if you do not stay ontop of your homework. He's very clear about the lessons, & he makes it very interesting. If you really are interesting in sociology, I suggest him. However the average grade for the class is a C.
Dr. Boyle is my favorite professor at Brookdale. He really does want us to do well. He does present what the world is like. You just have to decide what you want out of it.
I think Dr. Boyle is the best professor I had at Brookdale. I just enjoyed class.
the best teacher ive had yet, so interesting and entertaining. the tests are a bit more difficult but its totally worth it i promise!
Online Class-Great Professor-Very Interactive-Do your work and get an A! All tests have a time limit and you must spread out discussion posts through the week. Very Interesting Class!
He was just a really nice guy. Funny too. He likes to fake that he is upset.
I really enjoyed this class, Dr.Boyle knows his work and is a great assest to BCC, made the class very interesting, knows what he is doing,Dr.Boyle its a smart cookie thank you so much for everything Dr.Boyle. "V"
Joe Boyle is AWESOME! He really cares about his students understanding the material and excelling in his class. He is very clear of what he expects you to know & updates your grades weekly (which I LOVED!) He is a fabulous professor & jmy favorite at BCC.
guy is the man! tells awesome stories. also teaches cool stuff makes it easy to do well in class if you listen to him. do what he says. dont cheat. he will figure it out
I was visiting the community college for the summer. He helped me with an application to grad school for my MBA. He is a real professor. He really helped me alot.
Online class was very busy. Many postings and replies are required. Also tests can be difficult if you don't read the book. Good use of calendar.
Good teacher. Spells things out pretty clearly. Requires a lot of reading, but not hard as long as you post frequently and read the text.
He is just flat out a good person. He does not take himself seriously and really does care about our futures. I like his fake anger.
Great professor. Material clean and concise. Has a sense of humor and very knowledgeable. Calender use great to keep up with due dates. Excellent communication. Took this as an online class, glad I got him as a teacher.
He really cared about us. He has some funny story every week. Some are sad though....just a good guy.
Caring, funny, and helpful -- probably the best at Brookdale. He's not easy, though. You have to actually work, but what's great is that he makes you want to.
Professor Boyle is a professor that any student with any major or career path needs to take. All of the subject matter has real life applications, and his real world connections/stories make the class very interesting. Plain and simple, you will like learning after having his class. I cannot wait to take him again he is just a very smart man.
If you are a procrastinator DO NOT take this class. DR. Boyle is a wonderful teacher who kept all of the discussion forum on my online class interesting but he is a tough grader. You get out of this class what you put into it. Good Luck!
Dr. Boyle is a good guy. His class really helped me with my major which was psychology. he wants you to do well in the future.
Never hated a professor so much in my life. So opinionated and never gives any evidence to back up his numerous opinions that he states as fact. Tests extremely easy if you look over his notes and memorize the vocab words he assigns. Don't need to read textbook.
I thought his class was pretty easy. Everything was organized and dr boyle gave it to us. I just kept up with the reading and came to class. I did pretty well. Smooth ride all term.
I loved his style. We learned a lot in class. He really tried to get us to think about economics witch I really find boring.
I just finished his final. He really gave us a lot of extra credit to help. Just go to class and study and you will be fine.
He is one of the worst professors I've ever had. He's obnoxious and thinks his views and opinions are the only right ones. His online class is ridiculous. He feels the need to critique grammar like he's an English major and basically makes you feel like whatever you've written has no value. Pompous, arrogant, and his grading scale is hard.
I thought his class was an easy A. Just 3 exams, 3 papers, and plenty of extra credit. No homework. It's a lot of studying, but he gives you everything you need. College = work. College =/= handouts. Don't take him if you're a slacker.
Dr. Boyle gave us everything we needed to pass. He was really great. he has lots of handouts for every class and all chapters. I got an easy A.
Dr. Boyle is the ideal professor for anyone interested in learning and becoming smarter, not just get an easy A for aesthetic purposes. All of the material is applicable to the real world and he starts every class by answering all of the questions in the question box used for attendance. He truly cares about his students and his lectures.
Not a hard class/teacher! First I wasn't sure if I could trust everything that he said. I wanted to believe him because he's my teacher, but some stuff just seemed wrong. After time, I liked him. He def wants you to become better students for the real world. He's looking out for your best interest. Great wake-up call to the slackers at B-dale.
I really enjoyed the online class. I thought we could have had more forums, but the overall class was fine. i got an A.
Dr. Boyle thinks that community college classes are too easy, and he prides himself on making his classes a little more difficult. I got an A, but only because I worked my butt off. I'm a decent writer, and I only got a B on two of the three papers. He genuinely wants you to be prepared for the real world, and for that, I liked him.
His grading is very hard. I have written many many papers and always do well, but I received a C from him. His tests are hard and he is not very clear on the material that is on them. He said for the test it would be just definitions but it was way more than that. Also he expects you to be on to respond to forums every day, which is ridiculous.
Dr. Boyle was very fair. I thought his class was clear. I also found it quite easy. If you just keep up with the work, you will be fine.
Really good dude! He talks about the economy A LOT. Really does care about getting you to get a degree.
He was just a great guy. He really showed me how to pick a transfer school. He talked about how to not avoid losing credits. Tests can be hard.
TERRIBLE! I am an A/B student and I'm doing terrible in his class. All he wants to talk about is how Brookdale students have a very low success rate. His grading scale is impossible and he does not even give you a clue what will be on exams. He prides himself on being a hard professor. WORST PROFESSOR EVER.
I'm not sure about some of the posts. Dr. Boyle was great. He really wants everyone to get a degree. i wish everyone was like him.
If you want a teacher who doesn't respond to your concerns and questions and gives you 40 minutes to complete an 80 question test hen this is your teacher
I definitely would not recommend this teacher. Although he grades very easily on your online forums, his paper grading is very harsh. I received a D on a paper and his comment as to why is that it was "average", and average at the college level is passing. Also gives lecture power points but half the info for tests you have to look up on your own.
Never bite the hand that feeds you. Knocks on students who attend community college. Remember this Joe, a community college signs your paychecks, and oh by the way didn't you start at one?
I thought Dr. Joe was excellent. The grading was fair but not studying would hurt you. Please make sure to study. He provides all of the words and handouts. Study them and it is a piece of cake.
Dr. Boyle is has high expectations for his students and tries to prepare them to move on to a four year school. If you are serious about your education then Dr. Boyle is the professor for you. If you expect to pass by writing poorly formed sentences that took little thought and show you did not read the material, you should look elsewhere.
I really enjoyed Dr. Boyle. He really explains everything, probably too much. He actually used most of the class time. I loved the lectures. He really wants you to vote. He must have said you young people do not vote like 100 times.
Just post 6-8 times on the forums and do the papers!! He is a tough grader on papers. The tests saved my grade. Just know every single highlighted term in the chapters that will be on the test. The test is literally every term in the book. Very easy to get in touch with and seems like a nice guy.
If you are taking an online class do not take him. He thinks he is an English professor on a forum where you are having quick replies with classmates. Would not take him ever again.
He wants you to log in every day and post in the discussion forum at least 15-20 times per week. Kind of asking too much for an online class. Will not hesitate to give you a failing grade if you don't post in the forum enough times. Otherwise, pretty good. Interesting material, and quick to respond to emails.
Best professor I had at Brookdale. He treats you as if you are a university and gives value sociological information about the world. He makes you work to prepare you for what comes after Brookdale and I would not be the student I was without him. Made me love Sociology and coming to class. Dr. Joe is a must take and again the best professor at BCC
Professor Boyle rambles pretty much all class. Half about his personal life and half about random statistics that don't seem true. Reads off the powerpoint and does not elaborate. Tests are tough even when you follow exactly what is on the study guide. Get the book, will help for exams
He was the best professor I had at Brookdale. I loved going to class. We usually got out a little early. He provides study guides. The tests are based on the study guides. No tricks.
Do not take this online class! It is absolutely horrible . I am a A B student and had a terrible time with his class. His tests have no study guides and they are 70 questions long with only 50 min to do the test. Also these tests cover multiple chapters . Grading is very harsh & I would not recommend
Took this class online. Although I got to take the tests at home they were awful due to the time restriction. You MUST study to pass the tests there is no time to look up answers. He is a little tough when grading the papers as well. I would say this class is an easy C, not an easy A.
Literally all we had to do for SOC101 was write 1 question every class(1 sentence), and then 2 papers, and 3 tests throughout the whole semester. Study the notes(handouts that you fill in) and look up the words (that he puts at the end of the study guide) you'll finish every test in less than a half hour. Great teacher that's really a cool guy.
Great professor! He talks about not just the class but also information that might be useful to know and if there are questions you want to ask, he is willing to talk about it with you. He gives you handouts and most of the information on the handout is on the test and as long as you look over the notes and attend class, you will do fine.
Fantastic professor. There is a lot of work for his online class but the take away is amazing, you will learn so much about sociology and life in general! If you are looking for an easy A with a professor who will sugar coat everything, look elsewhere. If you are wiling to work for your grade and eager to learn, take him!
Dr. Boyle was the best professor I had at Brookdale. I'm graduating this summer and he just really helped me so much. Everyone should take him.
Very good teacher, would take any course he is teaching!!!!
So I used the previous ratings to take Professor Boyle for Sociology and I was under the impression his class would be enjoyable and understandable. I will never take another class with him and will never recommend him to anyone. He's rude, keeps you the whole time, very tough grader, thinks hes funny, hes far from it, he thinks he is a know it all
He went off of tangents that never had an end. Don't ask a question expecting any real answer because he speaks in circles and by the time he is done you will just end up more confused.
Very rude and disrespectful. Racist, used profanity, and should not have job as a professor because he clearly does not like what he does.
He is a horrible instructor with no real world experience. a book worm that reads from the book. He has no business teaching topics he has no idea about. Do not take him!
He was one of the best professor I have ever had. He was a great guy. He helped me so much.
I had the best time with Dr. Joe. His review sheets are great. Every word and each class is given to you before. Class powerpoints are online. It was a great class.
I loved Mr. Boyle. We always got out 15 or 20 minutes early. Tests were all multiple-choice. He always replied to emails quickly. he made class really fun. No group stuff at all.
This guy is just a self agrandizing person. His opinions about community college students (HE WORKS FOR ONE!) are wrong. If you're a cc student - F his opinions you that won't go anywhere. He's an idiot who just likes to talk about his boring yoga wife and his many degrees that got him a job at a BCC. His class is as easy as he is lame.
Dr. Boyle was great. He really helped me with the transfer to Rutgers. He wrote me a letter and everything. He helped with me with some stat homework too. I start in the fall.
I had to leave school at Christmas to attend Brookdale. Dr. Joe was the best professor I had at both schools. I just absolutely love him. he gave us everything we need to do good in the class. He worked around some of my work schedules.
I took Dr. Joe this summer from my university. He was better than any professor at my school. He taught like my major, but so much better. He really treated me extremely well. He always answered my emails. I wish I could take more classes with him.
I took this professor for two seperate classes and I really enjoyed it. He is straight up honest with you and he knows a lot about a variety of different subjects. His class is difficult and were my lowest grades but quite honestly I learned way more in his class then I have in others. If you value real education instead of a letter, take him.
I went to only one class and was SO BORED that I went home that night & immediately dropped the class. His lectures are like a hydra: you think he's done droning on, but then he'll think of another unrelated point and you have to slay twice as many heads. If you want a class on monotony or how to sleep, this is it.
Overall nice guy. Lectures the whole class but easy to sit through. Makes outlines of the powerpoints for which is super nice but has very VERY hard tests. Every few weeks, extra credit is given if you show up to class.
Professor Boyle is a friendly and funny man. He is a TOUGH professor. I respect him for trying to get us ready for a four year. He grades on so few things that one bad grade can really F you over. Overall, hes a good and helpful professor but if you want easy, dont choose him.
I loved Dr. Joe. He said over and over that his class is like a 4 year university class. If want to learn, he's your man.
He is a little bit gazed.. sometimes gets off topic and talks about random stuff. His exams are hard!!! and its on ALOT of material! But overall he is a VERY smart and good professor
He was the most direct professor I had. Just a good guy. He helped me pick my courses for the next semester. he even looked up schools to transfer for me in his office. I think he wanted me to graduate more than my mom.
I loved Dr. Joe's class. You will have to read and take notes, but he provides everything online. His test reviews helped me a lot. Make sure to go to class. He explains everything, but does talk a little fast.
Good professor. Gives test reviews for each exam, which are really helpful throughout the course. He offers some extra credit as long as you show up to class every week. As long as you keep up with the reading, study and do your best you will be fine in this class.
He is a pretty good professor. He makes his class like a four year universities class. He makes sure you are well prepared for each exam. His lectures are clear and its very easy to take notes from his lectures. Only downside is he goes off topic often about his political beliefs but other than that he is a great professor to take!
Kind of a maniac in some ways but he's a hilarious guy who only wants the best for his students. Tests require a good amount of studying and reading from the book, but if you put in the right amount of time it's easy.
He is really funny, but you have to listen to get his jokes. He rarely sits down. He seems to really care about us graduating. The class was different in that it was mostly him talking all of the time. No groups ever in our class. I really enjoyed class. Got out early every day. If you study and come to class, an easy A.
Dr. Joe may be the smartest professor at Brookdale. He really knows his transfer stuff. He won't lie to you either. He's like don't take that. Take this. This won't transfer. When I looked it up, he was right. He really talks about transfer and four-year schools. He was so nice.
One of the best teachers I have taken at Brookdale, so good that I took him a few semesters after I had him for the first class. I recommend him to anyone who is taking sociology. Through his class, I kind of wish I was becoming a sociologist too. Makes class very interactive and interesting.
Just a really nice guy. I think he replies to every message within minutes. He REALLY wants you to graduate from a 4 year school. Everything is about that. Got out a little early for every class. Make sure to show up for every class. Extra credit comes from the attendance grade.
Dr. Joe is a really great guy. You have to buy the textbook for the online course. The course uses it for every assignment. I really like the TV and crime assignment. Topics were on the news alot. He sent reminders alot for us. Always got back to me on messages.
Fair grader online. If you post regularly, you'll get full credit. Take home essays online with some multiple choice. Writing assignments were easy. Always responds to emails. You need a textbook.
Nice guy, pass his tests & you'll be fine
You have to study for his exams. Everything is provided. Handouts. Powerpoints. Review sheet was helpful. Lots of lecture. Get out of class about 20 minutes early most weeks. Very nice man.
I had to leave my old school b/c of not doing well. Dr. Boyle was the most like my old profs. I wish he taught at my other school. Attend every class and you will do well. Use the study guides.
I had Dr. Joe for 2 online classes. Both were the same set up. Forums really help grades. he uses the calendar for assignments. Must buy the book. I used an old edition for one, but had to get a new one for the other.
Great dude. Lots of lecture. Class is a college class. Make sure to do the attendance questions. They help a lot. All extra credit in class. You can't skip.
I loved class as we had no group work for grades. The first half is the longest. Always gives break. Break can be too long. Make sure to get the handouts. Study for the first test as that is the hardest.
Had him for social problems. Lots of opportunity for extra credit. He used our test review questions for the exam. Must study, study, study for exam. I didn't use the book much. Used the powerpoints and did good.
Took online. There are 3 essays each exam but are simple. Discussion forums get the class conversing and are interesting. Dr. Joe always answers your emails in a timely manner and shows a great interest in the course as he is very knowledgeable. Lienent on grading papers and gives excellent feedback on each assignment! Extra credit paper is offered
An all around nice guy who is really well educated. He relates to the real world a lot and it really keeps you interested the entire time. He always lets you out about 30 minutes early and his class is really simple with three sets of practice test questions three exams and one paper with tons of extra credit options.
I really like Dr. Joe. Attendance is counted, but the questions were interesting. He always read mine. I attend another school out of state. I wish he taught there. He was pretty easy for college prof. Study guides, powerpoints, every class got a handout. Exams were just definitions. All multiple choice.
Dr. Boyle would be a great teacher to take if you have an interest in the subject. He gives a lot of feedback and seems to be knowledgable of criminal justice. That being said, the online class is a ridiculous amount of work and he grades extremely hard. In a 6 week class I've written more essays and papers than I have at 3 years of actual college.
Everyone should take Dr. Boyle. He helped me so much with transferring. He most definitely knows colleges. Knows out of state too. I'm in business and he looked items up to help me get transfer credit. Super nice.
Hes very intelligent, hes honestly one of the best professors I have had, he knows his information very well. He expects you to work at your full potential and really wants you to do well. He teaches like a university professor
His online class was horrible. I had a terrible semester with him as my online professor and it really is a shame. He expects us to dedicate 10 hours a week in online work - that is ridiculous. Online classes are taken for people who do not have that time. He also is a super hard grader, Im not sure how he is in person but online he is not great.
I took Dr. Boyle both in person and online. The online class was take home essay. In person was multiple choice and matching. The online class did not have many forums. The essays were longer online. I got a B in both.
I took his online class and it was horrible. I'm obviously not as advanced as him in the subject and it's almost as if he expected you to be. I've never had so much work for an online class. if you love writing three 7-10 page essays on top of other work then this is the class for you
The online class was pretty tame. All of the essays were take home. Extra credit on every exam. Forums didn't take much time each week. He knows his stuff. Definitely would do it again.
Dr. Boyle's class was more writing than my other criminal justice classes. Make sure to cite your sources. Forums were easy. I got full credit for almost all of them. He rounded up my grade at the end bc I was close.
I don't understand why he is rated at a 4. SO much work. You just write papers and papers and papers. Its way too much writing in my opinion. He gives enough time on due dates which are like a month, but still its way too much writing and researching for someone who has a full-time job and a part time job.
There was more writing than my other classes, but many classes don't do much. He does give a lot time for the work. Fair grader. I got As on all my work. always answered my messages. Real fast too.
One of the hardest graders that I have taken at Brookdale. I felt like no matter what I did I just could not get a good grade on anything. He is obviously very well educated on the subject of sociology which I am not. He seems not to understand there are students going into his class that have no background in sociology.
Very harsh grader!
Follow the directions, and you'll be fine. Class was super easy.
Personally, I found him to be nit-picky and controlling. He was also very rigid in his opinions, and seemed more interested in showcasing his own knowledge rather than encouraging an interest or understanding in his students. PowerPoints dry collections of never-ending definitions. You will be bored. You will be talked down to.
I took Dr. Boyle in person last year and liked him. His Zoom class is better, easier as the tests are take home. Really easy A so far
I liked the Zoom class of Dr. Boyle. It wasn't hard but not easy. always gave time at the end of the class to do our work on canvas. Tests were half open book essay and multiple choice. always got back to me on my messages.
I had Professor Boyle for sociology for summer I in 2020, he was great. He gives great lectures and really knows his information. He gives out multiple extra credit assignments and whenever I needed help with something he was always there to help me. Encourages students to participate and talk to one another. Definitely take his class.
great guy great class. A lot of work but he really tries to prep you for school after brookdale
HIs grading and work criteria is simple. As long as you study the definitions he gives you and pay attention during lectures you will pass. Taking him again this semester.
He gives discussions that are due two weeks after the date they open but will knock off 5 pts for a 10 pt discussion if you do not write in the discussion the first week its put out.
Great guy. Follow the directions and your fine. You do need the textbook. Everything is in Canvas
Dr. Joe was super knowledgeable and I really loved the class because of this. For the criminal justice class he bases the grade on your forum participation. If you like straightforward and structured coursework each week like I do, you'll do well and find it easy to get the work done. The info you learn is super useful and applies to life nowadays.
Seems like a nice person, seems more than happy to put his views on social/political issues in the world into class which can be off-putting if you don't like that from teachers. Overall, seems like a nice guy and makes the discussions interesting but it can come close to that line at times.
Must comment about 6/7 times within one discussion to receive a decent score. Many times I would comment 7/8 times and still receive a 6/10 for the assignment. Do not take any of his classes, you will regret it as do i.
Dr. Boyle has been my favorite professor at Bdale. He has been like a TV professor. The class does meet for most of the time, no hybrid stuff like others. Easy to follow the directions. Super nice
His discussions must be done his way. You will not get a perfect score if you do what he says, he only gives out 6/10. He has many unclear topics on his syllabus, not sure why they arent organized
Dr. Boyle has a pretty simple class. iWork was pretty straightforward. Extraordinary credit on every exam helped me get an A
Dr. Joe is a nice guy and you can tell he cares about what he does. But the dude cant teach INTRO to Sociology. Thinks the whole class is a bunch of experts and he is the toughest grader ive ever had. I am a straight A student hoping I can only pass this class I took as elective. Had to curve first test for whole class because average was so low.
He's the best professor that I've had so far. You will have to work for it. I have an A so far. Interesting lectures.
Boyle is an extremely unprofessional professor. He attempts to force his class to think how he does every class, and if you don't share his same beliefs, he fails you. His Forums are extremely bias and degrading to our generation, his lectures don't help with tests at all, every exam had an average failing grade for the class. Don't take him
I love Dr. Boyle. He wrote me letter for transfer. Great guy. Class is very easy if you follow the directions. Do the extra credit. It helps a lot.
Will overload you with information in the lectures, some information isn't even on the exams. Exams are super hard and studying doesn't help. Discussion posts have to be done his way or you'll get a bad grade. Has a very strong opinion about everything you say and will argue with you.
I dont understand the bad reviews. Hes one of the best profs Ive had. Just follow the directions and youll get an A
Great guy. Make sure to look at the vocab list. I had him online. Nearly every q. was from the vocab list he created. I thought it was pretty easy.
My favorite at Brookdale. He really knows transfer stuff. Go to his office hours. It helps alot. He is the only one with his door open during the pandemic. Nice man
Dr. Boyle was a very knowledgeable and nice guy. You have to really work for your grade. He has his exams based off the lecture and the text book. In my opinion the lectures did not match with the exam and study guide. He goes off on tangents and gets distracted and completely off topic. Very hard to follow.
Super nice guy. Not the easiest but lots of extra credit. On each exam too. Definitely take him for delinquency
I took him in the fall and I was very intimidated. Sociology didnt come easy to me but he was very knowledgeable. The one thing that made me uncomfortable is how he talks bad about BDale students and low graduation rates almost every class. It may be facts but as students now itt uncomfortable hearing it every class. I liked the class but not that
Zoom class was really laid back. No requirements to be on screen. He's super nice. No group work either. I really hate the Zoom groups. Gave us about 30 minutes each class to work on online homework. Tests were harder than I expected. Nice man
Super nice guy. Very organized. Lots of extra credit
I really like Dr. Boyle. All of my criminal justice courses have this new attendance thing. He helped me make up items when I was out sick. Exams are not easy, but really nice. Download the powerpoints. they help
The online class was easy, but you have to do the forums. The forums were pretty easy, but make sure to do it. No dropped assignments or gradess. Do the extra credit. It helps a lot. Tests were open for two weeks. Always responded to messages in Canvas.
The "3" for difficulty is good. Tests are harder than average, but there is other stuff like attendance questions and review sheets that help alot. Xtra points is good too.
Super nice guy. I usually only take online courses. He was the only prof to replie in the forums like a student. Good extra credit
Expect to be writing a lot. Exams are very straightforward and pretty much just definitions. Difficult to get the A, but if you do the minimum of what's asked, you will probably pass.
Really nice man. Pretty easy CJ course online.
Excellent guy. Solid class. Not tough at all
Such a tough grader and if you have a different opinion than him good luck
Dr. Joe's class was different online You must participate every week. I messed up the first couple forums, but then got As on the rest. More reading than my other cj classes. Open book essay exam part was pretty easy too. Always answers messages.
I logged in like twice a week and it was pretty easy. Exams took a little more time tho. Nice prof
Really nice prof. I needed help with transfer info. He really helped a lot. Best prof imho
Tremendous amount of reading. Reading from the textbook is hard to follow. A lot of unnecessary information. You have to write a lot of essays. I wrote more essays in this class than I have in any other class including my English classes. Every week there is a discussion board, if you do not respond to it within two days, points off. Very hard.
I love Dr. Boyle. He really helps with transfer info. He's better than my advisor. His class had a lot of extra credit. Gotta go to class to get it tho. Make sure to do the practice test question sheets for the test. I went online to get flashcards from another semester. Tests were pretty easy.
Professor is very approachable and gives great feedback. Gives plenty of extra credit opportunities which is great.
I logged in just twice a week and did pretty well. Follow the directions and you'll be fine. Use the reading list and study guides. Have to get the texbook. Used was really cheap. Great guy. Always emails back fast. Definitely take again.
Prof Boyle is a very tough grader, and acts as if he is teaching a harvard class in the discussion forum. MUST HAVE 10 REPLYS in each forum. This class was so frustrating and his tests are even worse!!!! they are timed 40 questions in 40 min so you have a min to choose an answer! do yourself a favor dont take this professor..
Really nice guy. I did all of the Extra credit. on all tests. All answers from the text. only vocabulary. Everything was pretty easy overall. Make sure to cite your stuff in papers and forums. I just used the textbook and a quizlet online for the vocab. Text for the essays. nothing else. Answered my messages in the same day.
I've only had a couple of grades so far but class is laid back. We get one to 2 weeks for work. The weekly reminders are so nice. Got a A right now. Really nice man.
Really nice man. Prettier easy class if you follow the directions. I did not do a few assignments and still brought my grade up
Class is different from my othe CJ courses. I like it better. Like a science class. Library trip was Ok. Should teach more crime science forensic stuff.
Dr. Boyle is pretty nice. Had him in the fall. He won't just tell you what you want. Helped me a lot with my schedule too. This was the easiest of the sociology classes that I had. Took first sociology with someone else. This is my third class. Pop culture stuff.
I liked the practice test questions. My class group shared them. Easy grading there. Attendance was a slip for questions. Grading was tough tho on other stuff. Some easy. Some hard. Really nice. Got out early. Study for test.
Dr. Boyle is very nice. Tests are hard in person. Should have more open book stuff. Doesn't, but class was very interesting. Took sociology too. I liked that one better.
The only hard thing was the essays and tests. Tests are super hard and he is a tough grader on the essays. He is a nice guy but pretty average class.
Best lecture classes that I've had. Only 9 chapters for criminology. Very nice man. All lecture notes online with notes handed out in class. Tests can be hard if you don't study. I did bad on my first one- but pulled my grade up with the other work. My favorite in-person class.
I really liked Dr. Boyle. He is very nice, but you will be graded strictly. Hard to get an A. Good extra credit. No do overs on stuff. I learned a lot, but it was harder than most. Everything is super clear and follow the directions.
I was told that Dr. Boyle was the best sociology prof. Nice person. Class is harder than my other classes. Helped me with transfer ideas. Its different than HS.
Really friendly and nice. Would take again. Not easy. Not hard. Have to buy book. Bought it late
No matter how much effort you put into a paper or post he will find ways to cut down your grade. Down to you spaced a little too much in this paragraph.
Heavy on reading assignments. No matter how much effort you place to write about, use quotations, talk about the sociology he will respond with you could responded more, elaborated more, written more. Extremely difficult grader.
Most organized class I ever had online. I work a lot. Plenty of time to finish assignments. Every assignment had a least one week which made my life easier. Good extra credit. Very nice man. I wish the textbook option was cheaper.
Pretty much as advertised. Prety easy too. Logged in a couple times a week. Not a lot of work
Reading is about one chapter per week. THere is a good amount of extra credit. I did all of it. Sweet man. Responds to emails quickly. Will help with transfer. I liked the summer class.
Harder than I thought he would be, but great guy. Runs class like a university. Dr. Boyle lectures a lot and wants you to transfer. He talks about Rutgers a lot. . Class gets out early every time (15-20 minutes). Make sure to do the attendance questions.
I have done more writing in Dr. Boyle's class than my other cj courses. The take home tests take a couple of days. You do get a few weeks for each. I enjoyed class. The first part of class is just doing criminology again. I took Dr. Boyle there too. Its not an easy A. I had to work for it.
I enjoyed Dr. Boyle's lectures a lot. He puts the powerpoints online. Not everything is listed there, but has in class handouts too. You can't miss class at all as the extra credit is all there with the questions at the end. Very nice man who does require more work than usual for a gen ed class.
I liked him a lot as we did up to date social problems. first part of class last spring was going over SOC 101, which was easy. The other items were a bit harder. I like that he uses our questions to build exams. The textbook questions were very hard. I will be taking him for the third time this next spring. He always answers any questions.
I took Dr. Boyle twice. His classes are the hardest in the CJ department but he is a very nice man. You will earn it. I did all of the extra credit the second time and my improved a lot. Forums are easy, but there are not many. No quizzes, but 3 big tests that are online.
Always replied quickly to my messages. Very nice and helpful. You must buy the book. No options. We used an older edition so it was cheap. Tough grader on exams. The extra credit on the essays does help. I did the last 2. I also did the extra credit paper too. Not may points overall, but not too hard.
I took his online class. Maybe his class are better in person but i did not enjoy taking his class at all. Always finds a way to not give you full credit. I def would NOT take again. I took this class for fun and it ended up being my hardest one. Tough grader.
I'm a visiting student this term online. He's easier than my uni. I wish he taught there. A little harder than my other courses at Brookdale. I logged in twice a week and did OK. B+ so far.
Dr. Boyle is a great guy. He is a lot different than the other profs. You gotta study and do the weekly work. Forums are different...every two weeks. Will grade you tough, but does offer a good amount of extra credit. The last paper was pretty easy tho
I took this class for an online prerequisite, and I've never had a professor who would do anything to not give a person full credit. Another reviewer mentioned it and it's true. No matter how well thought out your discussion posts or essays were, he always found something to criticize. I had a 4.0 before I took his class. Very tough grader.
Prof Boyle is a nice guy, but he makes a very interesting class extremely difficult to pass. No matter what you do he does not give full credits. I enjoyed the reading and learned a lot, I wish he becomes linent in his grading, the passing rate in his class will be extremely high. He has potential to be the best prof if he loosen his grading.
Super nice man. Need to study. Did good on later tests. Do extra credit. It helps
Pretty easy class. I just kept up with the forums and did the extra credit. Online multiple choice tests were very easy. All based on the book. No videos. the tv project was fun looking a cop shows.
He honestly is a great professor! But honestly read all the chapters so you can do well on the tests. I took him for summer I. He genuinely cares about how he teaches. Show up to ALL classes. He is not BS. He was very interesting when he was teaching. That's all I can say. He is GREAT THO, NO BS!!!
Extremely nice prof. Each week is a different social problem. We watched a doc on the opiate epidemic for the paper. Second paper is optional for extra credit. I really like the creating test question assigment for each test review. You really can't miss class and have to read the textbook, which does make the tests a little tough.
Lots of science. Lectures a lot, but you get out a bit early each week. tests are tough bc lots of names. Names are given to help with tests. Nice prof. Helped me with the library stuff. Early class on Tues but have to attend.
Class is more work than my other online courses but it was easy. Posted a couple of times per week and got 10s all the time. Gotta use the powerpoints for some of the exam questions. Textbook isn't free, but found one online free. I didn't do the first extra credit, then did the others. Pulled my first test grade up. Nice person
He is a nice guy but grades very tough. You have to put a lot of effort in reading. Anything you list from online sources and your marks will be deducted. Its an intersting class, but his grading is extremely tough and very hard to get full points. I had to repeat the class to get better grades.
I'm a straight A student and received a D in his class. There's a thin line between being a tough grader, and a bad professor. He's a bad professor. For a 101 class, he sure did treat it like a 202 instead.
The class was pretty straightforward. The online tests were easy, and the extra credit opportunities helped a lot. unstuckstudy ai was a great tool for studying alongside the textbook. The professor was very helpful and responsive.
Nice guy. Great with transfer help. Helped directly with my 4 year school. I used him more than my advisor. Very friendly.
The most active online class I had. I had to login in 3 to 4 times per week to do good. Very nice. Alwqays replies to messages. interesting topic, if you post a lot you will do good. tests were ok
overall, the best prof I had at Brookdale. Class was very easy. Am taking him for a 3rd class. Book was a little pricey, but found it online cheap. Older version. Didn't need the new one. I really liked making up test questions. Not the easiest class, but great guy
Cares a lot about the subject and lectures... he tries to treat it like a university-type class. Three exams and one paper determines your grade with extra credit possible if you attend every class. You will pass the tests if you read the textbook thoroughly and fill in the guided notes. He lets students make up test questions too.
This was by far the worst professor and class I have ever had the displeasure of taking at Brookdale. The grading was ridiculous, and the average grades for the entire class were terrible, which anyone with a brain can see is the professor. Extremely rude with every response, and now I see why half the class has already dropped it.
Pretty easy to follow along. about and assignment a week. He gives two weeks for exams which has been great for my work schedule. I had to buy the textbook, but found a used older copy online.
He rambles a lot and uses all his time in class. He does not take in any absences even if you are sick and cannot make it into class. Instead, he gives you participation credit every time you come into class, listen to his lecture, and at the end, you fill out one question to ask him. That is how you would build extra credit for this class!
He is an extremely strict grades, no matter what you do you won't get good grades in the easy questions or on any papers. He accuses you of using AI or cheating when you haven't used any online tool. His grading is very tough. I wish he provide an example of how he wants the exam questions answered and it would be so much better to perform good.
great professor. awesome advisor. go to him to help w/classes
Super nice. Great guy. I took Dr. Joe in person andonline for for both CRJU and SOCI classes. Totally recommend him to help. You have to go to class and do the discussions. Extra credit for class attendance on the little sheets.
Really nice prof but a lot more work than my other courses in cj. Learned a lot and we did about 11 chapters in the textbook. Gives tests reviews and PowerPoints along with note sheet each class. you have to attend every class
The second half of class is better. It was about gangs, family, school. The first half was research and theory. Exams are both essay and multiple choice. Take home exams
Absolutely loved this class. Only lectures all of class but it's very entertaining and keeps you engaged. Very laid back about phone use. All the notes he uses in lecture are also on canvas to reference. Tests were a bit hard but he puts all the notes online. Very easy if u study well. Learned a lot really recommend
I liked the class a lot. You do not have to talk in class if you do not want. I really liked the questions asked before we left each week. They count toward the grade and extra credit. Only 3 tests. They were a little harder than my other classes. We get to help write the exam with submitting "review questions". He picked a few of mine.
Online class was pretty easy. There are test reviews with word lists. I used that mostly. Essays are take home. One writing assignment. Forums were easy, but you do have to post a lot to get credit.
You have to buy the textbook. He told me that I could use the older edition. That saved me some money as a free PDF was online. The forums were easy. Exams were hard as he does grade on sources. The textbook was enough. He was so nice, but strict on deadlines.
I was shocked reading these reviews he thinks that everything is AI when you haven't used any. He grades so difficult. I have always been a good student but he is so strict I actually will be dropping this class. All I want to do is get my credits and leave. Run.
Very nice man. Tons of lecture. We get out early nearly every week. 3 tests and a short paper. Pretty chill intro class. Gotta study for the tests. Test reviews are online.
Class was more difficult than my other CJ courses. Great advisor though. Helped me with Rutgers transfer. Very nice and really knows his stuff
I really liked class. You are required to attend as you get points each week for an "attendance question". Dr. Boyle reads them the next class. The points here adds up. Tests are harder than my other classes but all multiple choice. You have to buy the textbook, but I used an older copy. It worked. Dr. Boyle is very interesting.
Do not take this professor. He treats a class most of us are taking as an elective as if its a grad school sociology course meant to prepare us for the field. Extremely tough grader, and is completely unclear about what he wants from us in the essay test questions, and proceeds to still give out low scores despite a lack of any actual guidelines.
I had him in person. Great in class. We got out like 15 to 20 min early. Three tests. Extra credit is thru attendance
My favorite prof at Brookdale. He really helped me pick my schedule at Rowan for the fall. I wish he was my advisor. His classes are tougher than others I had, but really nice and learned a lot. I like writing our own test questions.
You gotta earn it. Science-based class. If you want to get into labs for CJ, he's great. Good amount of extra credit. Attendance is key to the course. Extra credit is based on attendance. Tests are in class.
Overall, you just have to try really hard. Definitely do not use AI. Use the textbook and site your sources.
Prof. Boyle is definitely a tough professor. He is also a strict grader, taking points off for mistakes that some English professors probably would not even do. However, every forum and every essay he gives feedback and always tells you what you can do to improve your grade. Also, while being a hard course, you will learn a lot.
I learned so much in class. It was much more work than my other cj courses. this class helped me do great in corrections. I'm taking ciminology with him this summer.
I liked him a lot personally. He's harder than most in social science. Extremely fair, but things need to be done "the right way". Following the directions. Class attendance is mostly the extra credit. It did make me go to class. It does help alot at the end.
If you're looking for an online class, I would not take this professor again. You're graded on five discussion forums, three multiple choice exams, three drop box essay exams, and a term paper; in which everything written he grades extremely harshly, which led to my grade in this class. The grading criteria on which he grades the papers are unclear
In my four years of attending university, I have never had a stricter professor. It's an insane amount of work with so much scrutiny for a 101. I took this in my last semester of undergrad b/c I thought it would be easy, and I ended up dropping due to a personal emergency and his lack of flexibility. Every other professor has accommodated me.
This guy takes his job way too seriously. I've taken classes at Brookdale and other CCs to transfer to my school for credit and he is by far the hardest prof I've had, and blames it on wanting to prepare students for a 4-year school/harder courses. As a humanities major, none of my profs at my main university are actually like this
I like Dr. Boyle. Class was hard at first but I did all of the extra credit and got an A. Strict on deadlines
Great guy. Simple class. Do the extra credit. No dropped grades, but extra credit helps alot....
I wouldn't recommend this class. The accelerated summer pace was overwhelming, with exams every few days. Dr. Boyle is an extremely harsh grader, often deducting points even when you follow the rubric. He expects 7–10 discussion posts instead of 3 which he states. Overall, the course felt heavy, discouraging, and unfairly graded.
Social problems was a good class. Two papers; one extra credit. Atendance mandatory but extra credit there two. Making up test questions was cool
Very nice man. All multiple choice exams. Easy as pie intro course
The summer session wasn't that hard just a lot of work for each week in like 5 weeks. Three tests that were open for like 10 days each. No videos but lots of PP slides to help.
Its a lecture class. Lots of lecture. No group work - which i like a lot. Mostly tests, but attendance adds up a lot for extra credit. I like the review sheets for the exams. PP all online. No trixx
Really nice guy. Harder than the other CJ profs. You gotta work for it
He will always accuse you of using AI, and even if you showed him any sort of proof that you didn't he'll give you the same copy pasted statement to avoid using generative content. Extremely tough grader, do not take his online class unless you're perfect.
His class is tougher than most at Brookdale but lots of extra credit. More writing than my other classes. Exams are half essay-half multiple choice. Lots of time for assignments.
Fair, but hard My grades went up a lot with following the directions specifically. I should get an A now. always answered my emails
Extremely great guy. Talks a lot. Class is mostly all lecture with exams 4 times. You have to buy the textbook, but its an old one. I found a free copy online. We got out early sometimes. LIbrary trip was easy.
