Joe Cash hasn't got a clue about people skills- If you take his class, chances are that he will embarass or berate you at least once or twice. Worse yet, everything he attempts to teach in class is never useful for tests, which are irrelevant.
doesn't teach what's in the catalogue, gives stupid assignments (blank pages for homework?) then drops you a grade if you don't turn in the blank pages & he can't make up his mind on how he wants assignments done, changing stuff right before it's due
Mr.Cash is not very helpful as an instructor. He does not welcome student inquiries regarding his grading discretion.
Very nice, easy A.
I have worked hard, put in my time and I am not getting anything out of this class. He thinks we're all in this class because its a GE and he thinks we don't want to learn anything but he hasn't taught us anything of value. HE IS A BAD TEACHER.
Joe cash is about the worst teacher I have ever had. Out of touch with his students, unhelpful and unrepentant of his lack of an ability to teach... i.e. when the class avg. on a test is 39% he blames the students.
I don't know what everyone is saying but his class is easy and it was very basic. If you know anything at all about computers and do your stuff = A hes very nice, bad thing is that i didnt learn anything new, otherwise good class
Bad teacher
Easy (A) but what a boring teacher.
Easy A. He's a very nice teacher, and listens to questions that his students have. Always available to meet, and will help you with whatever you need.
His lectures never have anything to do with the book. Exams are pretty easy, but he is boring. I did not learn any new information at all. Overall, not a great teacher and a bit strange!
This class was the easiest class I have ever had. It's an easy A. But his classes are boring and its hard to keep paying attention. He is very helpful though and listens to our questions, and is available to meet with. Other than that the class is boring but its an easy A.
Usually helpful
Easy A
Complete freak! Don't expect to learn anything about computer science.

The class was easy for me, but a lot of people struggled because in class he would just go over the homework or the tests. I think he lectured maybe 3 days out of the semester. If you ask him a question, he'll go one for like an hour and still not have answer your question but if you read the book, it's easy and his assignments are easy.
When you're told not to take this guy, believe it!!! He's a frustrated philosophy teacher under the guise of computer science teacher. No matter how inconvenient, take a different teacher-trust me, you won't be sorry. I should have taken a math or science class for this UGE! This class was agony.
it was not very helpful in situations to the point where a lot of people were are very upset at him and they made him know it. He doesnt like to be told he is wrong
Dont think about missing class, I had an A but he gave me a C- for my absences. What an idiot, and he knows nothing about computers. My parents are computer programers, and they both agree that Joe is a fraud.
HORRIBLE TEACHER!!! STAY AWAY! He assigns way too much work for a basic computer class, including a 10 page research paper. I didn't learn a thing & I wasted all my spare time just trying to get his dumb assignments finished.
his class is a snooze-fest. The best part of his class is the computer lab, where you are actually on your own. Don't expect any real help on assignments.
Good teacher. Assigns the most interesting text ever.
Complete ****! hands down worst teacher at stanislaus! First of all he tried to tell the class that God doesn't exist!!! Then he would lecture about philosophy and wouldn't lecture on anything at all that was on the tests. I hated the class from the start so I signed up for CR/NC and then he gave me a B in that class...I don't get it. DONT TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!
I learned a lot about using a computer in this class
I'm learned a lot in this class about Office, Windows, cut and paste, and he was always helpful when I had a question.
He helped me a lot, and I learned a lot!
A little bit flaky and makes you read a book by this guy who thinks robots will take over the world in the next 20 years. but the class is so easy it's worth putting up with it.
If you can figure out how to use ratemyprofessors.com, you really don't need this class. It's an easy A with a lot of irritating little busy work assignments attached.
Joe Cash is not a professor or computer science teacher, he is a man who thinks computers will take over the world along with all of his alien and robot friends. Somehow he was hired at Stan. State. If you want to learn nothing about computers and a little about how robots will take over the world...take a class from Joe Cash.
Really easy class if you're somewhat familiar w/ computers, but Joe is obsessed with science and robot stuff. His lectures are extremely boring and are not related to computers. I would have appreciated learning about computers in my computer class, not science!
Class is really easy! I had him for cs 2000. Has four homework assignments that you have to do on the computer and he tells you how to do them in lecture, otherwise the instructions online are really easy to follow. You almost only need the glossary out of the book for the tests. Half the time I didn't go to lab and I still did really well!
The biggest waste of time and stupid memorization of the text which was not useful. If you have ever used a computer before then don't waste you time.
his class is really a waste but can booste your gpa. class is a waste to goto so dont go...hes ok with that too which is great. just make sure you do the homework on time and take the tests...even if you do bad on the tests thats ok...just do the homework and youll be able to pass.
class: easy, his lectures:boring basically turn in homework, do alright on tests and good on visions and u'll pass plus he gives out 100pts extra credit so its really easy, his class discussions are boring...so avoid them!
So i'm doing homework for his class right now, and there is SO much unneccesary reading and work to be done. Its ridiculous. He is not helpful, he's lazy. He's a nice guy and all, be he is just worried about making people turn against machines and the class itself is a complete waste! Sorry Cash... take another instructor if you can.
This class is very easy if you already know how to use a computer. You however will not learn anything in the class because Mr. Cash spends the entirty of class time lecturing about how robots are going to take over the world and that people are really nothing more than robots. Worst teacher at stan. Oh, and lots or irrelevant work.
I don't know what everyone is talking about saying that he is lazy... all these people just having nothing nice to say cause he is a nice teacher and the reason he probaly talks about other things is give us break from all the other boring teachers. What more can we ask for? we get 100 extra credit points.
BOOOOOOOORING! Don't take him... he sucks. Just don't... go look for another teacher or wait another semester... please.
I don't know what all you people are crying about- Cash is easy, and makes it so ANYONE with a basic level of effort will get an A or B. He's nice, helpful and gives 100 ex credit points just for going to class for crying out loud. Compared to the other PC classes- he gives a small amount of work. Is it boring? Yes. But get over it...he's easy.
This class really wasn't too bad. As far as grading, it is really easy to pull off a good grade if you turn in all your assignments because he allows for e.c.points.So even if you do badly on all the tests (which I did) you can still pull off an A in the class. He's helpful if you ask. You just have to put up with his annoying talks about robots!
Although his class is boring, he makes it very possible for you to pass the class! For example, I pretty much failed all the test but did all the homework and was able to pull off an A. It's just about how much you put into it. If you ask him questions, he'll help. Like others said, you just have to deal with the boringness!
If you are serious about learning about computers, don't take CS400. If you just want an easy A, it's the class for you. Lectures are an utter bore, but also a great oppertunity to put on your head phones and do work from other classes. If you are familiar with computers, this class will be a breeze.
I had trouble with some of the homework assignments, but Mr. Cash if very helpful. I think that he is a wonderful teacher and I recommend him highly. His class discussions are very interesting.
Mr. Cash is really a very nice individual who is passionate about what he teaches. He's fair. Do the homework, do the reading, and you will get a good grade. He's interested in robotics, and science technology, which he shares along with computer basics. I learned how to do a lot of new things. Kudos, Joe and thanks for an interesting class.
I really do not know why people complain about Mr. Cash. He should be the one who should be complaining by having unrespectful students. Really all people have to do to pass his class is follow directions and do the homework. His class is very easy, and he tries to help people.Just do the work and stop being rude people
One of the worst classes ever! It's a waste of time, and unless you're not sure how to attach something to an email then don't take this class.
Easy class, if you know about computers already don't buy the bigger text. Bonus: you will never have to take notes in this class, but he will start taking roll once people stop showing up. Be prepared for absurd "discussions" while he reads off of his computer. You will "create" a few MSWord docs, a MSExcel sheet, and a meager webpage.
EASY CLASS. need textbook for his VISIONS takehome quizs and to study for his TEST. If you don't pass his test and quizs, you need to go practice on myspace and e-mail more. His discussions are always about robots, NOT COMPUTERS!, he gives out extra credit when there is only half a class showing up. This is a waste of time class but a easy class.
Most of the semester was a question on ethics and why robots are amazing. He isn't really helpful when asked questions. Do not take this class expecting computer science. You will get lots of debates (One sided, as he MUST have the last word, always). I REALLY do not recommend Mr. Cash. If you can, take a section with a different teacher.
horrible class. a complete waste of time. very easy to pass. as long as you've had a computer or access to one, theres no reason why you'd fail. His discussions usually have nothing to do with the class and are always one sided.
He's misunderstood. He's a nice guy and really does want to help you succeed. He's maticulous, but for very good reason. Easy class, must attend for participation points and study hard for tests. I like Mr. Cash, he just needs to lighten up a bit!
To be completely honest, he is probably a nice person outside of class, but he is very one sided in his discussions and any contrary opinion is meet with ridicule. He told one student "your wrong, your wrong, your wrong. just stop talking because you've been wrong enough today." Easy A if you keep your mouth shut, but super boring.
this is the worst teacher I ever had. He is not even a professor. He has his own agenda. So glad I took him in the summer because I could not handle a whole semester! I really did not learn anything. He told us to fiddle around on the computer until we could figure things out or he gave us the exact things to type in so we did not learn ourself
Took this course online. He is not even the teacher. You are basically submitting all your work online for a computer to automatically grade it. There are A LOT of assignments that can get a little frustrating. But overall, there are so many points possible it would take more effort to fail that to get an A.
Class is extremely easy, teacher tells you everything you need to know the first day of class and after that you work at your own speed to get it all done.
Online, very easy class. Just make sure you keep up with the work, it can pile up really fast. If you have a Mac, you have to use the school computers.
CS4000 was easy. It is entirely online after first day of class. A lot of work if you try to do it at once, so do your work early. If you do it everyday you can have the course done in a month. Easy A because you can redo the work 15 times for the grade you want. He recommends not buying the textbook, which is always good.
I wouldn't say CS4000 is an easy class, but an A is definitely attainable. The first "lab" you meet & everything else is strictly online. Seems overwhelming at first, because the syllabus is so strict & detailed (37pages!), but do the work, commit the time & you'll get an A. Professor Cash responds quickly to Emails. I was finished by Spring break.
Really easy class. All the work is laid out. Finished class with an A in a month.
Do not get discouraged from the syllabus. Just stay on top of your assignments and it's an easy A.
It's a lot of work but it's not hard work.. It's tedious. But I would reccomened him. You work at your own pace. Nothing is due till the end of the semester
Class only met one time and he explained his expectations that day perfectly. The syllabus also helped. One thing though, there are a lot of assignments but these weren't hard. If you do 5 assignments daily, you will finish before the semester is over. I took him spring semester and finished a little after spring break with an A.
I took this class fully online and met the professor once. Overall its pretty easy class, just lots of work. It takes up a lot of time but you do it at your own pace. Just keep on track and you should pass easily, don't procrastinate though! Also you can redo the assignments as many times as you'd like and finish the class early on so its worth it.
The class is an easy A as long as you do the assignments. It's a lot of work but not hard. You can finish the class early if you put in the work. His syllabus is very clear, so don't bother emailing him questions because the answer is probably in there (39 pages). The class is overall straightforward.
This course is definitely time consuming, but if you take the time to learn the different programs on the practice portions of the course, you will ace the exams. You get as many redos as youd like and everything is due at the end of the semester. Its an easy A but it is completely independent, so put in the work to get the grade you want!
40 page syllabus says it all
Would say horrible teacher, but he doesn't teach - he sets the class up so he has to do nothing besides refer you to his 40 page syllabus on his basic HTML website. 80 hours of work, repetitive assignments, terrible class.
Took CS4000 in the summer. Did not learn anything.
The professor does not explain the MS office well. Try another professors perhaps you will learn more
Another lecturer told me that his teaching is being looked into at a higher level. avoid
A lot of work and all the assignments are very time consuming! Would not recommend this class if you're a full time student.
Was told this class would be super easy but there is a ton of work! He will not answer questions via email, he will tell you to read the 40 page syllabus to find the answer. All assignments are due on the same day at the end of the semester. Try not to procrastinate!
People are just completely lazy because 40 page of syllabus is nothing. The work may seem like it's a lot but they are super easy. There are tutorials that you can do real quick if you're unsure about a homework.
Best part of this class was that he allows every assignment to be turned it by the final day of class and for some that is not a good but for me trying to deal with my studies on campus this was good. Make sure to not ask him any questions though as he will tell you to look at the 40 page syllabus... yikes. Just make time and you will be fine
We met once, he expects you to remember everything and do everything independently. He does not help nor answer questions. He is very precise and has overly high expectations. I am not learning anything from this class and I would not recommend to take him. He is not supportive in any way and it's clear he does not care about his students.
This class is online and requires little to no instruction from him. He's readily accessible via email. Make sure your question can't get answered from his 40 page manuscript 'Intro' (mandatory to read FYI) as he will just refer you back to his Intro. I had him Spring 2020 during COVID & he very understanding of certain circumstances.
The class used MyLabIt which was kind of pricy (through Pearson) and it was SUPER BUGGY. The program/software was kind of annoying to work with especially if you have a macbook. The "Grader" assignments were graded way too harshly by the software. But overall, he was very kind with the online transition. A good class to take to fulfill UP-B req.
The software MyLabIT can be buggy sometimes but overall, its not too bad. Go at your own pace and dont procrastinate. He allows you to redo any assignments and exams to get full points which is really helpful. 40-page syllabus but lots of helpful information. Honestly an easy A class. Just dont fall behind
Class is online. This is a simulator of excel, word, and PowerPoint. Go at your own paste but there are due dates. The 40-page syllbus is actually really informative, everything on there is as if he was telling you during class. Currently need 3 weeks worth of work to finish and it is only mid march.Easy class all depends on the work you put in.
Simulation of Excel, Powerpoint and Word. No canvas or Moodle. Interaction is on emails, look at them before class starts, it is all there. I don't know what people are complaining about his Syllabus, 40 pg but it is informative since you are not in class talking to him. This class on your own, with due dates on MylabIT. Class done 2 months early.
Took this course as my first introduction to Stan, it was almost too easy! There's no Canvas or Moodle system, no class time, no deadline, everything is asynchronous and located conveniently on the MyLab IT system. I was able to finish the entire curriculum in 25 days. Easy credits if you have any existing knowledge at all about Microsoft Office.
He's alright. He uses MyLabIT, a Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint simulation. Class is asynchronous. Everything is due at the end of the semester but do NOT leave it for the end. This class takes a LOT of time to complete. If you work extra hard you can finish his class 1-2 months early. I finished 2 weeks early and went at a normal speed.
I enjoyed this professor's class. Everything was online and you could access all the assignments from the beginning of the semester. I finished the course 2 months early to focus on my other classes. The class can be time-consuming, but it is easy if you follow all the assignments and instructions provided in the assignments. Highly recommend!
Prof. Cash is fair in that he communicates precisely with a comprehensive syllabus. But his massive weakness is that the syllabus is not user friendly, at all. He is painfully particular about email. The course is a slog and requires extreme discipline. If you're someone who falls behind on assignments, DO NOT take this course. It is not an easy A.
If you are a really good at turning in hw in a timely manner, this course is for you. Homework was due once a week and assignments ranged from 1-3 hours depending on the chapter. It can be a bit tedious since its online. You work at your own pace as long as you meet deadlines. It does require self-discipline, but I would definitely take it again.
I took this class during the summer session. It was a bit difficult to manage while taking other classes, but I got it done. I imagine this class is easier to complete during a regular semester. I believe the syllabus was very helpful and answered all my questions. This class is fair and easy if you put the work in!
I would never take this class again. I have not had a social life at all this semester because this class has taken up so much of my time. It is through Pearson and each assignment can take hours to complete. A few of my classmates and myself have had a couple breakdowns because of this course lol.
I took his computer science course online. It was asynchronous, and everything was due early in the semester. It was stressful with lots of glitches on the Pearson website, but I ended up finishing the course in three weeks with A. I was able to focus on my other courses and have an easy semester, so that was awesome.
Avoid class at all costs. His communication is horrible. I wish I knew about rate my professor before I took his class.
Joe Cash does not use Canvas. He makes an unimpressive website where he posts the work for the semester. All of the work is done through Pearson. This includes Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint lessons. They are not hard, but they are insanely tedious. They take HOURS to complete and are a waste of time. Easy class but too much busy work.
I would never recommend this class. The professor is condescending and rude when approached by email, does not provide any guidance when asked, nor does he use Canvas. The computer access and textbook was very expensive, and all assignments are tedious and finnicky.
Like everyone else says he is rude, not accessible, nor is he understanding. He doesn't use Canvas, has an outdated syllabus (that is 31 pages long), and refuses to speak to you if you need any help at all. The course itself is self paced and easy, just time consuming as there are 78 assignments that are tedious to do.
Do not take this professor. ALL busy work, includes about 6-8 hrs of tedious work per week. Take another professor or another class that fits the requirement. Online book he uses is almost 200$, and he does not want to be bothered with ANYTHING. BEWARE!
This course requires strict time management and self-discipline, but it's doable if you stay on top of the work. The assignments can be time-consuming, but using study tools like unstuck ai can help you prepare efficiently. Overall, it's a fair class if you put in the effort.
NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE I EVER PAID MONEY TO BE TREATED LIKE AN IDIOT. THIS INSTRUCTOR NOT ONLY USES OUT OF DATE PROGRAMMING FOR HIS CURRICULUM, HE HAS ZERO INTERACTION WITH HIS STUDENTS AND IF YOU EMAIL HIM, HE WILL BE CONDESENDING AND NOT OFFER HELP, ANSWER A QUESTION, OR SUPPORT YOU IN ANY WAY.. UNACCEPTABLE TREATMENT HE IS CHARGED TO SERVE!
The entire course is taught by the textbook program. The teacher doesn't do any lectures or anything. The course teaches you though an emulation program that is simple enough if you're already familiar with Microsoft office but if you aren't already decent with these programs take the course with a different teacher.
this class has so many bad reviews, but its not even bad.Self-paced and easy, the professor was easy to reach although the syllabus really does have everything.I finished the class early, the assignments can be annoying and tedious, but overall very easy class. Only thing that threw me off was that there's no canvas, but you really don't need it.
Fully online course where you use Pearson to learn all about using excel, word, PowerPoint. We was prompt and easy to communicate with if you followed his detailed intro. Hard to navigate the intro and syllabus though. Make sure you know what you're getting into before taking the course.
Very much do it yourself class. Homework was very easy, unlimited tries, and you can definitely finish the class early. Ratings scared me but I would honestly take again, really liked the way he did the class. Textbook/hw is a bit pricey but worth it because its so easy and you can finish super early in the semester.
My first encounter with him was cold—he referred me to the 32-page syllabus when I asked for an access code. No office hours, and the class isn't on Canvas. The upside: you work at your own pace. I finished a month early by studying 6 hours a week and meeting a tutor. The physical book really helped. If you're self-motivated, this class works well.
I wish I can tell you if he's a great professor or not, but unfortunately was dropped from his class, no reason was given. He emailed me that the class was going to be a hybrid class (shorter), so after a month I emailed him that when did class start because on the system is says it's a regular class. I never got a response and then I was dropped.
