I can't praise Joe enough, he is an awesome teacher. Speech is one of the most dreadest classes, especially for me. With Joe he made the environment very supportive & non judgemental Highly knowledgeable, & also gives student alot of room to explore their own speaking style. Highly recommended!

the class was great, joe was great, very positive and enlightening, just do your work, go to class - there is nothing to be scared of in this class, just do your best. Speech is a tough class, because people don't want to talk in front of others, but with Joe, you will really learn to hone your skills. He is very nice and understanding.

Joe was an amazing teacher who really created a helpful environment. Just knowing that if you stand infront of the class and open your mouth you'll get a C really helped the speakers feel better, I think. The speeches were pretty easy as long as you spoke on something you liked. By the end of the class I wanted to speak infront of people!

This is an online course, and is one of the most challenginf classes I have ever taken, however Joe is also the most available and helpful professor I have ever had. The class online does take a lot of time, but you can work on it when you have the time. I think you learn more in the online classes because you can't slack in the back of the class.

Joe does'nt fool around, he is kind of like a drill sargent and just wants to get the work done. He is very clear on what he wants from you. Just make sure you KEEP UP with the online check-ins and assigns and you will do fine. Pratice your speeches several times by yourself before class meeting. Good teacher!

I took the 6 week Summer course. This is NOT easy, however Joe made it interesting, and enjoyable. He takes the time to explain concepts and gives help when needed. Highly recommended!

Joe was a great teacher and very helpful as well. English and speech is normally my least favorite subject, but Joe addressed good topics and methods for his students to think critically. It was a lot of work, but I gained very useful methods of debate. I gained a lot from this class and recommend it to anyone!

Online course is not a good idea if youre looking for an easy class. You can get an A but it takes a ton of work which is relatively boring. Joe is one of the best teachers I have had at SRJC. He likes what he does an is very helpful.

I absolutely loved this class. I thought Joe was an extremely helpful and understanding teacher. This class required a lot of work to earn an A, but in the end I feel like I am a way better argumentative writer and debater. He is extremely forgiving when it comes to late work, and is very helpful for those who are feeling overwhelmed.

Joe is a laid back teacher. Class relies heavily on online materials.Lots of time in class to get prepared for speeches. Wasn't always totally clear when explaining concepts so if you don't get it make sure to ask him lots of questions. Class is an easy A if you're good at speaking. Uses PowerPoint heavily which makes speeches easier to give

i took his online class during the summer. Joe is extremely helpful and really nice. however..this class is HARD!! there is a lot of work involved. the way he has his online class set up is very organized and helpful...but DO NOT EXPECT AN EASY A..OR B!! there is a lot of work/readings

Joe is a laid back teacher. However the class requires a lot of reading, and comprehension. Joe leaves positive remarks on the debates. He is forgiving on late assignments. Lets you make up tests to get a better grade. I hate debating but he helped me. It is a hard class, so you have to give it your all. I was happy I passed with a C!

I took Speech 9 over the summer, and have to say that this class is a LOT of work. I dothink that in the amount of time that this class takes reading and posting it is too much. It is not a very difficult class, but the work is kinda excessive. 3 1500 word essays with 4 400 word blogs and 3 debates. So if you want to suffer for three weeks doit

Great teacher! I learned a lot but this class is a lot of work! Its probably more work taking it online than going to class. So make sure you have a lot of time to devote to reading all class mates posts and responding. 3 1500 word essays, 3 live debates (online) and responses are due daily.

He is awesome. He obviously loves his job and has great rapport with students. He will stay after class and answer all of your questions. He'll help you with assignments. He has a low risk high reward policy with a lot of his assignment, where you can do them more than once if needed. Free rewrites. What more could you ask?

Joe is great he states everything that is expected from you and as long as you do it or make an effort you will receive an A. I took him online and therefore it alleviated much of my anxiety but I still enjoyed the class.

I took this course online and it was extremely easy and Joe is a fair grader. Other students would STRESS, which was completely unnecessary. It's one of the most easy classes. We had 3 speeches to give all semester: 1 pet peeve speech, 1 informative speech, and 1 group speech (problem-solution). Joe is a great teacher! Text book is online = free!

Super easy online class. Met 5 times to give speeches. Fair grader. Allowed late submissions for online assignments. You need the book if you want to do well on online tests. Class calendar was very confusing, but just ask and he'll clarify. The hardest part of class is standing up to give speeches, but hey we all have to do it!

I took Joe's 1A class online and it was the easiest class ever. He may be a bit disorganized, but some people makes it seem as if they have no common sense to find links and such. He grades fair, textbook will be needed, and as long as you present your speech with effort you will be fine. He seems serious, but he's really a nice guy!!

Great professor very clear,helpful fair. lets you take quizzes and test multiple times. recommend the shakespeare reading guide. lots of ways to earn points, not a super easy A but I learned a lot. I took the class online and it was still great. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS CLASS!!!

I had been putting speech off to the very last minute, I'm glad I ended up with Joe. He is pretty funny and makes the class enjoyable. His speech assignments are clear and to the point, and yo uget to use a power point which helped me a lot. Not a lot of demanding work. I recommend his class.

Great instructor. Always available, mostly online, but also in person. As long as you reach out to him, he will bend over backwards to help you. He will spend hours with you working on a paper if you need to do so. All you have to do is ask!

This is the best speech teacher to take this class with. He's so laid back and helpful. Prior to this class I wasn't able to get in any classes but he accepted me into his and I got an "A". Do good on the speeches and you'll do fine only 5 major ones . Love this instructor!!!!!

He's freakin' awesome. He's really chill, pretty funny, and grades extremely fair. Got 102% without trying. Sometimes the deadlines are a little soon, but they're doable. Easy A, hands down.

This instructor is the best! His integrity level is high and he really does care about his students. I returned back to school after many years and am working full time night shift as an RN. I had given up on this course due to missed classes towards the end, but he worked with me to make sure I was able to get all my speeches done.

Joe is 100% about helping you through this class. He encourages a supportive, interactive message board that exceeds my other online classes. He wants you to succeed and provides great assistance. He will always answer your questions--no question is 'too dumb'. First class where some fellow students said they were sad to see it end! Joe's the BEST!

Joe is extremely nice and forgiving. He does everything he can to help students succeed as long as they put in the effort themselves. He will make you comfortable debating even if you've never done it before. This class takes effort but he does not make it hard on you. Joe's textbook also does a good job of explaining the principles of debate.

Joe will tell you exactly what he wants on your papers. He is helpful during debates. His papers (this semester) were due whenever, so he grades them whenever, and so feedback may not happen until much later than anticipated. You can, however, rewrite them for a high grade. Lots of quizzes and extra material to learn. Remember, debate is fun!

Made Speech 1A as painless as possible! Very encouraging, easy grader, made for a relaxed speaking environment. Thought it would be weird to take Speech online, but it went really well! Just comment on other people's posts, show up for speeches (duh!), and do the EASY assignments/tests and you're golden! Definitely reccomend!

Joe is a great teacher. always willing to help you if you have any questions and he is very passionate about what he does. Totally recommend him!

Extremely easy class -- but still helpful in terms of public speaking - and it was fun! Honestly it was probably one of the best classes I've taken in college because of the things we talked about (though maybe that depends on the group of people in the class and the topics they choose). Joe is a cool, low-pressure guy and he is super nice.

Amazing Instructor, the first statements he made were "this is suppose to be fun and Low Risk High Reward. He gave extensive feedback, assistance and extremely fair. Joe is a very helpful teacher. I really enjoyed his class. You have to do the online live debates!! If you think this is a speech class without speeches since it is online you are wrong. You need the book and you need a clear understanding of the play the tempest. for this class. It takes up a lot of time - not an easy A. But its not impossible!

I was really stressed out about this class to start off with, however, as the semster went on I started to really enjoy the class and learn alot. I enjoyed this class because even though there were deadlines, Joe allowed us to turn our work in WHENEVER. He was very flexible and undersatnding. I feel like he was an easy going proffesor!:)

Joe was an awesome instructor, and I highly appreciate the leniency he has in SPCH9 Online. Need an extension on a paper? Ask away and you will get the green light almost immediately. The papers were fair, and I must admit, a bit on the easier side. The only difficult portion of this course was "The Tempest". Shakespeare is just too much for me.

I took his Speech 1A class and he was just so helpful with everything! I was actually very nervous about speaking in front of everyone and i was not the only one. He made sure that we all felt comfortable and that everyone respected each other. I would take his class again :)

Joe is an awesome teacher. He is very understanding that students have lives outside of school too - show him that you're communicating and at least trying to put your best foot forward and he will work with you on deadlines for assignments. Attendance won't get you dropped from his classes but it will lower your grade. He's one of my favs at SRJC.

Professor Corcoran is awesome! He gives readings and his quizzes are super easy. Your speeches just need to be done without looking at your paper. I took it online for all the work and we met up 5 times the semester to do our speeches. Easy A honestly. I got a B because i missed a few deadlines for my work. But I honestly recommend his online class

He's suck a great teacher. The debates are kinda hard but they get easier along the way. He is also very understanding and if you need extra time on a paper he'll give it to you. Only thing is keep track of the online quizzes don't slack off. I'd totally take his class again.

I took this class online over the summer and we met five times to give the speeches. Easy A if you do all the work. A lot of work during the week but im assuming that was because it was a summer course. Easy grader on speeches because he wants everyone to be comfortable. Highly recommend the hybrid class.

Joe is great ! I took his hybrid class recently in the summer. He wrote his own material for reading so no need to worry about a text book. There are five main speeches, quizzes weekly and about two papers if I remember correctly. He works with you, and is great with communication One of the most patient and gracious teachers Ive taken

Hybrid online class with 6 in person meetings. Took over the summer. Lots of assignments and a speech every week. Prof provides the digital textbook. Great feedback on your speeches and easy grader. Multiple papers and quizes and several tests. Each test has 10 tries and each test had 4 tries.

Joe is a genuinely good natured and caring teacher. He wrote his own textbook so you don't have to purchase one! I took an online hybrid class so there were three meetups. Every speech I had to make was eased by his encouragement and kindness. Also, he really brought the class together and created a welcoming environment. Amazing teacher!

I love his class and how he runs his class. He cares about his students as long as you show your effort. He's willing to make almost anything work. The hybrid speech class is amazing. I HIGHLY recomend taking this class. He is very flexible with due dates and gives good feedback to help you improve.

Joe is a great professor and cares a lot about his students. As long as you show up and try he is willing to work with you and help in any way he can. There were three debates with papers due after each one, but the papers are very easy to write and most of the work in this course was pass or fail. Could be an easy A if you put the effort in.

Joe is a great fun teacher with good intentions to help students. His classes are simple and fun. He loves students to work together and looks for participation. Not a lot of test but essays :). Quizzes are based on the readings. You will not get bored of his way of teaching or the class.

I took Joes hybrid class and it wAs the best decision. Homework and quizzes were easy with multiple tries to perfect your score. You only show up to school to do your speeches and if you show up YOU WILL PASS. Super easy class, super cool teacher, and very comfortable classroom vibe.

3 Classes: SPCH1A/Hybrid-COMM7/In-Class-COMM9/Online w/Prof Corcoran. He strives for student's "scholarly" success: very supportive with positive feedback. Available outside of class/online. His lectures are presented for the student to understand the material (including online). I highly recommend him and all of his classes, especially debate!

He is a super nice guy, but can be a little unorganized when it comes to turning things in and having them graded. But other than that he uses canvas and is nice. Just make sure to know when the due dates are.

Took his hybrid class and essentially if you do all the work its an easy A. There are lots of assignments worth very few points but do not skip them as it adds up. Four or five speeches but they are open to interpretation and pretty easy. Wrote his own short textbook and makes it free on canvas. All quiz and test questions are straight from book.

I took two classes with Corcoran- Speech 1 and Comm 9. I think he makes the material accessible and really lays out the path to success. His classes were my favorite.

Joe is a super flexible teacher. He is very understanding of people that require more time. I took his Comm 9 class during the summer and its 5 essays within 6 weeks so get ready to read and write. Debates are cool as well, hes super helpful and always helps when you are stuck. Just do your reading and homework and youll succeed.

THIS IS THE BEST TEACHER!! I can not stress enough how great Corcoran is. He is so kind and helpful. As long as u try, u will get an A. U can choose almost any topic for speeches. U get 10 attempts on quizzes and 4 on the final. I used to hate public speaking, but this teacher made it fun and I learned so much and became confident in my abilities.

Took his Comm 5 class. I'm not one for being part of groups at all, but Joe turned that around for me. Just show up to class, engage in the group activity, and read the chapters of the textbook. He is understanding and wants everyone to succeed.

Comm classes are not a favorite for most. This guy makes it pretty painless. Do the work, show up for class, youll do fine.

Gives extra credit out if you turn up to office hours and ask questions/learn. He has a textbook he wrote that I had a hard time absorbing ; His lectures were the same. I feel like short a sweet would give a clearer picture but then you wouldnt fulfill college requirements I guess. He goes on example tangents that I just got lost on.

Pretty easy grader, do your best on speech days and you should get a grade you're happy with. You have a few chances to get a better score on quiz's but as long as you read the chapters before taking the quiz you should be good. Overall great class if you aren't too fond of public speaking. He encourages students to have confidence in themselves

Took Comm60 online and was only in class for 4 nights through the semester. There was one group speech that was super easy if you were able to meet with your group and apply yourself. Tests could be retaken for max credit and mainly Joe wanted to see effort even if you were not great with speaking in public. 10/10 for sure. Take his classes!

If you hate communication or speech in general because of the anxiety then Professor Corcoran is for you. He gives you plenty of time to do homework, u can make up for a higher test score. I would definitely take him again. I also loved his book and reads. He cares for his students and IS the definition of a college professor!!! Above and beyond!

Joe was amazing! I had a terrible professor last semester under public speaking. If you want a chill professor who will introduce public speaking without getting you nervous Joe is the way to go!

Corcoran is the best teacher at the JC. I had not problems passing his class. if you don't like speech, you should definitely take him.

I took Comm1 with Joe and did well so figured I would take him again for Comm60. Comm60 was over the summer so there was a high demand for deadlines daily but it was verry manageable. It was discussions, quizzes and 5 papers in total (option for 4 if you made word count). I would highly recommend ANY class with Joe. He makes speech approachable!

Corcoran was a good teacher. As long as you do well on the speeches you will pass. You get to choose your topics, which is great. He wrote the textbook and it is free. He assigns three papers at the end and gives zero feedback on your scores, which I found slightly annoying. Tests had confusing questions and were difficult.

Easy A, take online and will have a lot of free periods. If you already feel you are a confident speaker in front of a camera you will get an A. However he is very unorganized on Canvas and will just post a bunch of random assignments due on random days. However most assignments did not impact grade. I didnt do half assig. + quizzes and still got A

Joe knows communications is an anxiety inducing class. He creates a welcoming and comforting environment and is clear about what he expects from you during your speeches. Put in expected effort and you will have an easy time in this class. He doesn't expect everyone to be a naturally good speaker.

Corcoran creates a low-stress environment for public speaking. While his Canvas organization is lacking, the free textbook and flexible speech topics make this an easy A. Unstuckstudy was a helpful study tool alongside the textbook. Overall, a solid choice if you want an engaging yet manageable communications class.

Makes public speaking easier! You do your speech in breakout groups on a recording platform (not in front of entire zoom). Random canvas work on random days, but they won't have huge impact on final grade if you do most of the work and show up/attempt every speech. Took 3 classes on top of this and his class was super manageable + least stressful.

COMM1 was my least fav class i've ever taken but not because of Mr. Corcoran, he's great, I just have a huge fear of public speaking i've discovered. EVEN if it's over zoom. Mr. Corcoran is very understanding of students' fears and gives you an excellent grade just for trying and participating. I was able to do the bare minimum and pass with an A.

He was always very polite and his class is straight forward. Gives clear instructions for assignments and clear feedback. Would definitely take again.
