Great teacher. Explains things really clearly. Makes sure students understand material before the exams. Exams follow the book exactly. Class is always interesting. Just don't be late for an exam or you will not be able to take it.
I take that back. Don't take him for anything over Stats. Period.
Really helpful and clear about what he wants from you...also funny in a really sarcastic way.
He's okay.
i did not like taking his class at all! it was very boring and not easy!
Handwriting is illegible and he was constantly making errors. Told stories the entire time, then expected us to know how to do the homework. Textbook had no examples, and we didnt finish the book. I failed this class, retook it that summer with a different prof, got through the whole book and earned an A in 8 weeks as opposed to Eitel's class.
I can't believe the other reviews on here. Eitel is a real jerk. He's a conservative who thinks he's so_damn_smart but gets pissed when anybody asks questions, even legitimate ones. He plays favorites and is ****. I ended up dropping his class late into the semester and petitioning the dean to get into another Math335 class which was ++
worst teacher ive ever had in my entire life. do not recommend him whatsoever. He's unclear in his lectures and has the most annoying voice i've ever heard in my life.

Uhm, you guys are just upset because your probably failed...I had Mr. Eitel and he was probably one of my favorite teachers. He was always willing to teach the people who actually acted like they wanted to learn. I would definitely reccomend him!
Eitel needs to stop teaching. He goes off-topic a lot and just really teaches badly. Nothing is explained effectively and he really reeks of non-motivation. AVOID AT ALL COSTS...
I really like his teaching methods. Math has never been my best subject. I need step by step instruction and repetition before I can really do it on my own, and he is really good about doing all of this. And he writes his own math books at times which makes it easier come test day.
He is a good teacher at Statistics, but he tends to sit there, boasting about how he went to school in England a little too much. This guy really thinks that he is a University level profesor.
Many of the ‘off topic’ stories told in this class relate to real world use of the piece of the math puzzle being taught at the time. He reviews the material in detail, in logical sequence to assist students in passing tests. He will not hold anyone’s hand, but he will fully answer any questions after class. His teaching style is different, but I l
Exelent teacher. Very attentive and very helpful.
Very very good teacher, he is not easy, you have to be want to be there and do your work to get an A. I had him for math 100,120 and stats 300, i got A's on all three classes. Do your homework on every assignment, attendance and punctuality is very important to him if you cant get there on time dont take him.
Mr. Eitel is the best teacher I have had at folsom lake college. THis is my fourth semester with him, and he always helps me after class if i have questions. YOU GUYS ALL SUCK. WHO EVER DISSES this teacher is most likely a total moron and doesn't care about an education or learning at that. You only hate him because you are lazy
Does not answer questions. Asks the same question back to you when you ask him. Cannot read his handwriting for the life of you.... Very confusing teaching styles... Was uncomfortable going to him with questions... Plan on getting help from the tutor center...
I learned more from this class then any math class I have ever taken. SUCH a good teacher, would reccomend for any one who has trouble learning math!
DONT TAKE HIM!!! hes the worst teacher i ever had hard to understand and very confusing and yes YOU CANT READ HIS WRITTNG, explains things that you already have to know to understand its just a big waste of time.. if you have to take this class take a different teacher because you wont learn anything from this guy!!!
PLEASE DONT TAKE HIM!!! if you know whats good for you someone said its becasue were lazy, NO!! he gives pleanty of time to let you do your work its just that he doesnt know how to teach has his own teaching style which is very confusing take another teacher go to another college if you have to just dont take his class its a BIG WASTE of TIME!!!
He teaches math really well. I have been taking the same math for 4 years and this is the first year i am getting it. He is kind of monotone and extremely nerdy but at least he can teach. His writing sucks though so watch out.
He teaches math really well. I have been taking the same math for 4 years and this is the first year i am getting it. He is kind of monotone and extremely nerdy but at least he can teach. His writing sucks though so watch out.
I have had this teacher for 2 semesters and I really like his teaching style. If you don't follow direction well and ask dumb questions(he hates when students ask a question that he just answered,so just pay attention)-then he is not the teacher for you. He has always been very nice to me and answers all my questions. I took another math class from
math120 was plain horrible w/ him. Half the time he had the wrong answers posted on his site, and then he took most of his explanations ofF his web site, so If you missed a day, you had no way of learning anything and you use his own books which have no explanations in the book because they are only workbooks. DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT TO LEARN.
Worse teacher I ever had. He always talks about himself, and does not "teach." He glosses over difficult material, and spends a lot of time on easy stuff. He is a prime example of what ails our community college system: he is there to collect a pay check, kick back, and count the days to retirement. His wife is a terrible teacher too, but easy.
Horrible teacher. He is extememly unclear and doesn't really care if you get it at the time or not. I've had other teachers that really care about their students learning the problems...he is not one of them. Talked a lot about family..not about math. Always late.
Always late to class and would drop you if you were late/absent more than twice. He was extremely hard to work with and would not help you at all if you were stuck on a problem in class. He lectures the easy work in class and would leave you hanging on the more difficult work. Not recommended if you want to learn anything.
I really like the way he can relate an algebra problem to something in our lives and make it more understandable. He's gifted teacher. But, I wish he'd teach a "normal" classroom class so I could take him again for algebra 120 next semester.!
AVOID THIS CLASS! I had him for math 30 and he wasn't bad. Then my class found out we got to rate his performance for his tenure. The following semester in Math 100 he was unhelpful, negative, informal, unprepared, and late everyday--except for when he did a surprise roll call to catch people who were merely a few minutes late.
I don't understand what all the low level math is complaining about, but Professor Eitel was very clear and helpful in his teaching and very fair in grading, and prepared me very for my Calc 400 class, so he knows hes stuff. But be warned, has random odd stories they may make you fall asleep.
Took the Math 30, self paced course which only requires completion of Mr. Eitel's text and meeting test deadlines. Highly recommend this for a summer class, I earned 5 units while enjoying a summer full of travel which I coordinated with the testing deadlines. Great self paced course if you are motivated to get things done!
i had him for math 30 and 100.he uses his own textbook which has tons of errors. if your ok with teaching urself math then its a good class for you. hes always late and never responds to emails. i didnt learn a thing from him, i printed out his lesson plans and taught myself.i got an A though.
Great guy. He may be having some family issues that cause stress in his life but he sure knows how to teach math! I have taken 3 math classes, two with him and one with his wife, and is the first teacher to enable me to understand mathmatics.
Eitel used stories that related the work into real life scenarios which helped me. The down side is that he tends to ramble about things that do not pertain to the subject. I'm not sure if I'd take him again.
Eitel is a dork, but a really good teacher. I tested into this class but found it a bit too easy, so ended up not paying attention sometimes. So when I got lost he was very helpful and knew how to help. pretty good.
complete gabehcued! does not care about his students at all and wont help you if youre in need of anything. avoid getting him as a teacher even if it means failing college. it would be better than having him as a teacher. if you ARE in his class...make fun of his hair
good teacher
This teacher is the biggest dork EVER but a pretty good teacher. I had always been really bad at math and had taken the same algebra for 4 years, it wasnt until i took him that i understood it. The hybrid class is really good becuase he keeps you working all class and there isnt actually anything online. I strongly reccommend this class.
Last year I failed Math 30, this year I am acing it. This professor has a way of explaining Math that makes it crystal clear. I am moving away from my school but contemplating driving the 40 min just to continue my Math courses with this professor. He is awesome!
JUST DONT TAKE HIM!
I like him, if you learn by him teaching and repeating homewor kthen this is a good class for you, i enjoyed eitel
DON'T TAKE HIM! take ANYONE else. I had him for math30, he was wonderful, so I planned to take as many classes with him as possible. That semester our class completed a survey about our experience with him as a teacher. Everything was good. The next semester in Math100 he was the total opposite, unwilling to help students, late everyday - awful.
I have taken Eitel for math 100,120 and Stats. He is very moody sometimes. He can go off topic very easily but puts math into real life situations for better understandings. I got all A's in his classes. Homework is due when you take chapter tests.
This teacher is not worth of your time. He does not have any manners or respect for others. He needs to work on his personality first before interacting with people.
I have taken him for 30,100,and I'm going to take 120 with him. I have attempted to take math with other teachers like Fuson, but i like how he teaches. He is blunt and sometimes rude, but he teaches you the math in a dumb-down version and with his own book. If math isn't easy for you then try him or Jensen..both are great!!
I took Eitel for Math 100 and enjoyed it. So I signed up for Stats with him, awful, awful, AWFUL! He was rude, inconsiderate, and would constantly yell for no good reason.
I went into the class hoping to like him as a teacher because I know him personally. Sadly, he wasn't a very good teacher, he was harsh and he often wouldn't answer a question that he'd already answered, which would lead to much confusion. He does made his tests easy giving cheat sheets, but the ease of the class for me had little to do with him.
Choose another math teacher, the only way to be on his good side is to be in one of his higher math courses or to be one of the older students. He isn't helpful and doesn't like to re-explain material. I was very unhappy with this choice.
The first thing he stated in class was that in the lower division classes it was his job to get us an A; in the upper division classes, it's the students job. After reading some of the input, I think he's a man of his word. Easy A and very helpful, I'm taking Math 100 from him next semeter; then I may change. It's all about the GPA!
Anyone who wants to understand statistics needs to take this professor (if you can get into his class). His goal is for the students to "get it". He's tough but fair; be on time and come prepared to learn.
Everyone knows when they have an exceptional college professor. At the same time, you know when you have a exceptionally terrible one. This man is a exceptionally terrible one. Teaching knowledge is certainly not a skill of his, nor is the basic common courtesy of mutual respect. There should be a disclaimer before his courses.
He is a great teacher, but don't expect help from him, even if you ask. Just go to class, pay attention and only ask him something you REALLY need help on. You will get a good grade though because the material is easy to understand.
This teacher is a raging baffoon. He spends your entire (paid for) class time raging about his idiotic thoughts and ideas that no one even cares about.Take my advice when I say this teacher should not be a teacher. He has no respect for his students nor does he care about them. He is completely unapproachable, asking him any questions only gets you
He has his own warning label, but it isn't accurate. If you want communication or help, don't bother. Take this class if you like paranoid ravings and being yelled at for needing help. I had to drop b'cuz I couldn't take it anymore (I lasted 3 weeks). I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!
I took him for math 30 and didnt show up to class half the time it was so easy. He makes his own book for students to buy which is usually around 50 bucks and you work right out of it everyday. I took him for math 100 and was also easy but he is always super moody. He locked a bunch of students out one day! easy A/B but never ask for help! Grumpy!
very rude teacher. i dont recommend taking his class. if u need help dont expect any from him.
Ignore all the other reviews on this class. I've never found math so easy. He's taken all the garbage out of the text book and teaches just what you need snd you can work ahead! A MUST TAKE
my gripe is with the online lecture notes that are on his website. they are basically comprised of problems that are done... they lack explanation on why certain things can/cant/need to be done
Like many who have rated this professor, I had him in Math 30 and thought he was an excellent instructor. However, in Math 100, he refused to answer questions, told us to go to his website, not to ask him questions again. If you want a good learning experience, check out the Math Lab at American River, worth the drive.
He is a good teacher. I took summer class on him.I'm not very good in Math but for him, He made the subject very easy.it's a eight weeks class but since it's an online course, I finish it in 6weeks and got an A.
He is hilarious. If you ASK FOR HELP you will get it. make math easy. Good Man
Locked students out of class if they were a minute late...seriously! Was very rude to students and thinks he is an awesome untouchable professor. very pompous. You will learn the math he teaches but it wont be in a comfortable environment.
Put forth effort and you will do fine. Very knowledgeable and clear about any topic. Mostly hand written test with no tricks. Does not overload you with homework at all compared to other math teachers. Does go off topic a bit but it gives the brain a minute to rest and usually ties it in with math somehow.
Let's just say the class is mostly self-taught because this man does nothing but talk about his life during class. Tests are based on the homework, so if you understand that, then you'll do fine. Oh, and there's no clear schedule of what he's teaching so you never know when he is going to collect homework.
This guy really knows what he is talking about, loves math more than any teacher I have ever had, and therefore explains it's applications a lot better than many teachers do and he is more than willing to help if you ask, he just doesn't like it when students disrespect him in class.
This teacher is amazing, he knows what he is talking about and you can tell he loves math. He makes his own textbook so all the graphs are already drawn and the problems are already set up. Attendance is not mandatory but I suggest you go everytime so you don't fall behind on material
Taken him before for math 100, and it was an easy A. Took him for stats 300, very unhelpful and rude. Was not helpful when I asked questions, and even yelled at me once. I wish I had taken someone else
He is not nice or helpful. He is rude and disrespectful to students and goes out of his way to do as little work as possible.
His bark is bigger than his bite. The first few weeks he acts like he is mean and attendance is mandatory, and it is for the first few weeks. After he scares off the children and the ones not willing to put in the effort he becomes a really nice and easy going teacher. He tends to laugh at the idiots, but dont we all? I got an A. Take him.
Such a bad teacher, doesnt explain anything. He goes on rants that have nothing to do with math for hours. Then there is no textbook just a homework book which is just ridiculous for being only ten points over like a hundred pages. Waste of my time failed my first test he didnt help students at all.
He's a really good teacher and having his class is a treat. you don't just learn about math. He'll inform you about the world and i think thats what the college experience is all about. It's not just about learning textbook material but about opening up your mind.
He plays hard at first, kicks people out and stuff, but 2 months in he stops taking attendance and becomes totally chill. Class is easy, he has a cheap workbook u work through and the tests are reworded questions from this. No curve balls. He gets lost on tangents.
He is the best math teacher I have ever had. He is fun and helpful. He finds ways to relate math to everyday life which I found very nice. Nevermind those whom have rated him poorly they were probably the type of slugs that end up getting weeded out for poor performance. The text book is cheap and I personally like the work book style.
He's an awesome teacher. He gives real world examples and uses them in his homework. He goes over problems with you in class and is willing to answer questions about the homework and about future interests students might have in a particular field. He cares for his students future and wants everyone to do well. DSP&S students, I recommend him.
Best math teacher I've had. He explains things really well. Goes over many examples of problems to make sure we get it.He allows you to finish semester early as long as you test out good. Great textbook, he made it, spiral book. Highly recommend this teacher.
Eitel has created his own textbook/workbook for this class, it helps students learn and practice the material while reducing busy-work. He is insistent students attend class, and will not answer questions about a class you didn't attend. However, his lectures are online, are simple, and straight-forward making this a non-issue for good students.
He isn't always the most organized, but he was always willing to answer questions and he knows everything about calculus.
Prof. Eitel has published his own book $60., and covers all nine chapters homework. Lectures well in classroom using life situations to understand current statistics. Highly recommend Prof Eitel's STAT class.
Prof. Eitel's taching method is very clear and well orgaized. He created his own workbook which makes it easier to use. I highly recommend his class.
Great professor cares about the student and getting them through. Always available to help. Uses his own workbook to teacdh from which is more understandble than the textbook. Takes the time to build on concepts and relates some real world examples to math to help build concepts. I highly reccommend. Loved him!
Professor Eitel uses his own workbook instead of a traditional math book. I was skeptical about that at first, but it proved to be very useful and organized. Great teacher.
This is my 2nd class with Mr. Eitel. I like his book, it is clear and easy to learn on your own as you go. Simplified so no calculators are needed which I love. He is nice but gets rushed sometimes so questions are usually held until I can read if its going to be received and answered. :)
Great professor! He does give a lot of HW since we had to do the problems he has in the book but he always was willing to help with the HW questions. What I especially liked is how he grades! If you stay bout 10 mins after class on test day, he'll tell you what grade you got right there at the spot!
Eitel is an interesting character. He is a great proffesor because he teaches the curriculum well. however, he makes many personality, educational and other attacks in class. He has embarrassed students for the majors they picked or the way they did on a test. Don't like the guy, but I do like his method of teaching.
Eitel is quite a guy. He goes off on tangents that go so long you think there's no way he'll ever get back to math, and when he finally finishes you realize he was talking about math the whole time. He's very good at relating math to the real world, and pretty practical in his method. Also, it's not easy to piss him off, but God help you if you do.
If you need to take MATH30, he is the Professor for the job! Has his OWN textbook that gives helpful step by step instructions. I only needed to show up once a week to see where we were in the book and on test days. TIP: Do not try to make conversation because the conversation will never end. Keep your personal life to yourself or you'll regret it.
He is a VERY religious person and starts too many conversations with students that identify as his same religion. He goes off on long tangents that are "math related" but so far off topic and only apply to maybe 2-3 students. I would leave the class in the middle of a tangent and come back 30 minutes later and he still isn't back on topic
This guy is so awesome. He just makes the hardest things simple and easy to understand. If you don't pass his class it's because you didn't attend. He even does half the homework with you in class so you understand everything. He is a great teacher.
The best math teacher I have ever taken. His book is really easy to understand and he is good at explaining concepts. TAKE HIM!!
Very good teacher! Easy to understand and very easy to get at least a B or A. He rarely uses the book, but all his notes and homework are online.
He really want to see you pass and understand the material. He uses the book he published himslef and it is very simple and easy to uinderstamd. I wish I would have taken him all the way through my math career because his teaching style is AMAZING and he takes an interest in his students
Best math teacher I have ever had. He really takes the time to explain the information thoroughly. I have always hated math and thought I was horrible at it. In his class I enjoyed math and found it pretty easy. I am so thankful to have had his classes. I am sad he isn't teaching math 120.
Good lectures but Math book had no on-line support/ numerous typos in answer keys. Not taking advantage of technology such as Course smart to "save the students money" is a disservice to students who struggle with Math. Other classes combine Course Smart with handouts in quantity similar to this book. A better approach. Embrace technology!
Great and easy math class. Nice guy. He tends to talk a lot towards the end of class (last half hour or so)but is ok with students leaving early. work out of the book, hardly ever need to work at home. Super easy class. As long as your really trying and make it to class on time he is nice.
Great teacher. Only math class that I have ever got an A in. I am mad I can't take him for every class. Most of your homework can be done in class. The book is great and easy to use. No online hw. Only takes attendance in the beginning of the semester. I will only take him or his wife for the rest of my time at flc if possible.
Very good math professor who teaches what is needed to know. I recommend him.
Covers all the material effectively and efficiently. Teaches concepts in a relatively short amount of time, allowing for one on one help for the last hour. Overall a veteran of teaching calculus. Would recommend.
I rarely drop classes, but this was too difficult to get through. His solutions and problems are riddled with typos which makes it really difficult to learn if you are dependent on that. As someone who is really strong in math, I felt like I was in the twilight zone in his class. Would not recommend. Take Bulaong, Greene, or Hand.
He is a great teacher. I took both MATH 120 and STAT 300 with him. He writes his own workbook and his tests are coming literally exactly from the homework. In STATs he even told us what problems he will likely use! Very strict on attendance: if you're not in when he's in, you're late. But great at tying problems to real world applications.
He typically goes off on rants that are barely related to Stats at all. His handwriting is terrible, he did a problem on the board and I couldn't tell if it was in English. Don't bother asking for help in class because he will just tell you that the lecture notes are online. I can't believe I passed this class.
He knows what he's teaching, and has made many extensive lectures on his website along with his own worksheets, which were VERY helpful. Although his handwriting illegible at times, his printed lectures give you step by step instructions. You won't need the book except for one chapter(sequences and series). He's one of the best math professors!
Thank God for his online notes because this guy's handwriting is NOT legible. I swear. He spends half the class ranting and will fail you if you're late (to his ranting). He offends me off in class with his opinions sometimes too. He is not a great teacher. I learn more after 5 minutes of looking at his online notes then in 2 hours of class.
Good teacher when he stays on topic. If you aren't a bigot then avoid his classes because he will offend you at least once each class. The ridiculous rants are not worth his alright teaching style. Don't bother.
He made statistics easy to apply and uses his own text book. Statistics is about facts so if you are offended by facts, you might want to consider that you are in a college course and it's real life.
Eitel is so confusing. Better know your stuff before you take his class because he will not remind you. He goes off topic a lot talking and is a little harsh.
will recommend. Currently in math 30 and will take 100 ned semester.
This guy has no care about his students. Teaches about 10 minutes worth of stats in a 2 hour class. The rest of the time is spent talking about the current events, or how successful his son is. Don't you dare be late twice, cause he has no problem dropping you even though real life events may occur. Horrible, horrible teacher. Don't take!!!
Professor Eitel is AWESOME! He causes my brain to understand Algebra better than I ever have. Often times students will come to class unprepared and expect him to give them 1 on 1 tutoring. He often tells us the purpose of the hybrid class is so you can allot time outside of class to do your homework. Taking his MATH 100 & 120. I love his style!
Professor Eitel makes the dry subject of math fun. He's always clear, and never confuses you.
Terrible professor. I never complain about how one teaches because my grade is up to me.All he does is rant about current events, how well his son is doing, and how he used the be a dean. He's just one of those people you have to bite your tongue at. He's annoying and I highly recommend if you want to enjoy this class and to pass, do not take him.
Have to buy HIS book but it turned out to be useful. Eitel isn't very helpful and blows though the lessons. It may have been because it was a summer session. He does ramble a lot, so if your not confident in math, take someone else.
If you need an easy pass, take this class! He is an easy teacher but extremely strict on attendance. I gave him a legit reason about 2 months into class and I let him know ahead of time and so he was fine with my absence. He helped me out a ton since I'm horrible at math. The HW is easy and quick and he writes his own book.
Lectures can be long because it's a 2hr class, tendency to ramble. Only 4 tests through the semester. Writes his own workbook & all homework & test questions come from that. He will tell you which are likely to show up on the test. If you miss class online notes are very helpful, but he will do homework problems as examples so try not too miss.
borring and confusing
Paying attention and doing your homework are key to passing Calc 1. Skipping class and missing a lecture can really hurt you. He makes his own worksheets for homework so you don't need a textbook, but he also tends to make a lot of typos. His handwriting is hard to read, but if you ask him for help he will help you. 4 tests in the semester.
I've had one other class with Eitel and I wish I was able to teach more. If I could take his classes for the remainder of my time at FLC, I would. All of his homework are questions he has created, which means he understands every question to a T. If you want to be successful in this class, don't miss class and don't talk while he is talking. :)
In the 2 hr class theres maybe about 20 minutes of math, and the rest is him just talking about what he read in the newspaper the other day. Got a question? Well I hope you were listening to his long irrelevant rambling, because he'll refuse to answer. He'll only mention critical facts for the class maybe once and expect you to have been listening.
I have had him from math 3o all the way up to stats. he tells you everything you need to know for the test. you have to buy his book but the homework questions are the test questions. he can get off script but he is just trying to relate it to real world problems. overall i think he is a great teacher and prepares you heavily for the test.
I thought he was fine. I hate math, probably have a math phobia, but I got through this class.
To be honest, I have no idea how I passed this class. He genuinely spends most of his class talking about things other than stats, but when he is on topic, he's very knowledgable. Use the online notes and make sure you have friends who can help when you're stuck - because he won't. It's doable to pass, but I have no idea how.
spends 90% of class talking about whatever and 10% about math. when he does talk about math, it's really just the gist of math, hardly any concrete info. That concrete information comes from his own written math book, which is the only thing in his class that was useful. only recommend if you failed a math class and u have to retake.
Each day he spends the majority of class talking, talking about anything other than math. He's great when he chooses to teach, unfortunately it's not often. His book is helpful and a great way to learn. However, he should stick to writing books and give the teaching to someone who wants to be there.
People that complain about his class are people that are struggling with a class that is supposed to be mostly review. He truly, truly spends at least 50% of class going off on tangents about the dying of the world and other conspiracies, but that's almost the best part!
I love professor Eitel. He is an amazing teacher, shows you one way (the easiest) to do things, uses his own book & his tests are great. He goes off his study guides & doesn't throw surprises at you. I had him for math 30 & 100 and got A's in both. He goes off on random talks every now and then but is a nice & caring person. I highly recommend him!
Professor Eitel is one of the best math teachers I've had. He comes across grouchy, but stick with him cause he is an amazing teacher. His book he wrote for the class is awesome. I have always struggled in math, but I actually like learning in this class because I can understand it well from the way he teaches.
He writes his own textbook, from which all lectures are given and all homework is completed. The pace of lecture is very reasonable, and he gives appropriate time in class to solve problems. Show up early, don't skip, do all the hw & you will do fine. He often rambles about non-math subjects but just ignore it and do your homework.
good teacher his book is great ask for help and he will help you do the homework it really does help and you always know what is on the tests and be on time!
Eitel spent only about 30% of the entire semester actually teaching us and the other 70% going on rants about the end of the world, "back in my day" stories, and complaining. I relied on YouTube to teach myself most of the concepts . Try to get on his good side ASAP, or else you are pretty much screwed and will be a target for the rest of the year.
This teacher is insane. He likes to cause drama with students. He is extremely rude towards his students. Doesn't seem to care about if the students are passing or not. Always says "good luck passing this class" when it's a low math class. He talks about things that have nothing todo with math. I've always done well in school until I got him. Awful
Arrive early to each and every class; non-negotiable or you'll be dropped. Ask questions, do the homework (he writes the textbooks), pay attention and you'll pass with an A. Excellent teacher, lots of experience. Clear grader, reviews what will be on tests, no cumulative final.
Does a lot of review, textbook is expensive, gets off topic often.
This class was a struggle. He gets sidetracked easily and goes off on tangents a lot and this isn't the easiest class in the world to begin with. You will have to study a lot. He can be mean sometimes and nice others. You will have to do a lot of hmwk from his workbook. Some tests are really tough and some easy. Work hard and you can pass. Beware.
He gives you the means to succeed but you will have to work for it. He prefers to spend class time talking about his son that works for IBM or how he helped build the school. We were let out early everyday. 25% lecture 75% him talking about random things (that were interesting sometimes). This class required me to study a lot.
Easy class if you work for it. He has a handbook that you do the lecture with and its homework as well. Eitel is funny and cool and he looks out for people who genuinely care about school! TAKE HIM! The handbook questions are very similar to the Test
My favorite part about this teacher, is that he doesn't use the standard math book for his class. He makes his own work book and I find it much easier that way! Math is by far my WORST subject, and he taught it in a way that helped me understand. I definitely recommend!
This class was ok. I hated stats but somehow got an A. You have to work hard & there are only 4 exams. The 2nd exam is difficult so you need to study really hard. He likes to go off on random tangents & let's you out early so make sure you review the material & do your hmwk. I had him from Math 30-STATS & got all A's. Work for it & you can do it.
I will be taking his class in fall which the first day of class is August 23. Today is August 19 and I have already received 11 emails from Prof. Eitel since August 2. This is not even an online class for Joe's sake. Why bomb students with emails during thier summer break? I can't imagine what the first day of instruction will be like.
prof eitel is very clear and knowledgable. he does make a few mistakes on the answer key but will go over any question you have doubts on. his hw covers many variations that will help you while moving forward.
Fantastic teacher, really takes time to explain each topic thoroughly, something many calculus teachers, especially in high school, struggle to do. His homework is long, but is very good practice. If you're solid on the homework, you're solid on the topic Procrastination on the homework will probably lead to stress and a tired wrist, but worth it
A true teacher of calculus in the most specific sense of the word. Incredibly intuitive and an amazingly brilliant professor. Leibniz and Newton would be in awe of this man and how he ensures that each of his students truly understand calculus. Suffice it to say, he has done Leibniz and Newton proud.
Professor Eitel is a great Calculus teacher. Math has been my weak point, but this class was very practical. He takes the time to dumb down the material (not heavily theory-based) so it's very easy to understand. He is a great lecturer who also makes class fun. My friends enjoyed his class too; we hope to take his class again down the road!
Professor Eitel is an excellent teacher! He taught calculus in a really clear and concise way, and even made someone like me learn to love math! He is always open for time during and outside of class to help with any problems that students might be having on certain problems. I highly recommend taking him!
Professor Eitel is a good teacher and genuinely loves math. He is always available to help outside of class and doesn't require a textbook. However, he can be confusing at times so if math is like a foreign language to you then don't take him.
Eitel explained each topic very well. He also let the class know the exact kind of problems that were going to be on the tests which made studying a lot easier. Very nice guy, too.
In my opinion this was one of the greatest professors I have ever had in my life. He made the class extremely easy in my opinion. He pretty much shows you how to do the homework does examples with you and you are free to go. There are no pop-ups on his easy test either. lectures are online and are VERY HELPfUL. easy A as well and lots of EC.
I enjoyed Mr. Eitel's class for the few times that I went to class. He is a nice and funny teacher. I like how he applied Calculus concepts to real life examples, making the material less "abstract." The tests are just like the homework if not easier and if you do not understand something he always makes sure to stay after class to help.
Eitel's lecture's are great. He explains how to do each problem starting from a simple example to the more complex problems. The test are modeled after the homework so if you can do the homework, you should be able to do well on the test.
If you are not a math major do not take his class. He grades tough on his tests and their is basically no homework so all points come from the tests. Half the class he brags about his sons and when you ask questions he tries to make you feel stupid.
I was very nervous coming into this class, but he made it very approachable. The Exams are heavily weighted but he lets you know exactly what's going to be on them and on how things are graded. He is very punctual. He also uses his own textbook that is more affordable, which is nice. Highly recommend him!
He never lectures on topic and is always talking about his family. If you are a DSPS student, good luck! He calls students out publicly with the intent to humiliate them and he will not allow you your lawful accommodation. He will have you sit in a closet after he's publicly yelled at you for needing time. I have seen it in two classes now, scary!
This is an easy stats class since Joe tells you what will be on the test. Also the homework/classwork is a workbook that he made. This is actually kind of a problem since he goes off on tangents based on issues the word problems he made bring up. I mean you get out early every day but it gets kind of boring listening to him rant about healthcare.
Have you had an authoritarian teacher in your life that is good at what they do and condescending? He is the poster child for this. Joe Eitel does not have the capacity to communicate with others. I got an A in his class but i would not recommend him. There are far better professors in terms being inspiring and does not suck the energy out of you.
I avoided taking Math 30 for years and was really pleased with Prof. Eitel. He's super nice and always stays after class to help those that need it. I enjoyed his teaching style. He's an older teacher but a really nice guy and does expect you to show respect (which u should do anyways). Show up on time and do your homework and you'll get an A.
Prof, Eitel is alright.. most of the time you will be able to leave his class early. In the beginning of class he lectures on the chapters you will be doing and then lets you work. PAY ATTENTION! if you are unfamiliar with some of the math because he flies through problems and chapters and if you miss the concept it can be challenging to catch up.
His classroom style is anxiety provoking. He'd lecture for about 20 minutes and let us go, mostly talking about himself. Has a disturbing habit of singling people out in front of the entire class to discuss things like their grades. I'm very thankful I only had him for four weeks over the summer. The only professor at FLC I wouldn't take again.
Professor Eitel is a very honest man. His goal is for you to succeed, he may go about it differently, but his intentions are for the class to advance. He provides simple and clear instructions on how to succeed in his class.
Avoid him if possible. No textbook use everything needs to be printed off his website flc. losrios. edu/eitel. Answer key full of errors. Doesn't lecture. Just reads/explains a few things then works on hw problems. I never have notes to reference back to. Not legible handwriting so good luck if you look away for a sec. Doesn't answer email. Avoid.
He is a great math teacher. He can be a bit condescending and goes off on tangents often, but teaches effectively (and quite fast, not good for slow learners) otherwise. Lots of errors on his answer key and adds assignments when you least expect it, so be responsible for yourself. If you're interested in rl applications to math, he has plenty.
Professor Eitel is AMAZING. I have always struggled with math. This is my second semester taking him and I've Aced both classes! He teaches you math through his own book, and there's a study guide for every test that's basically the same word for word as the tests. BUT don't be late or have your phone out HE HATES THAT (understandably so)
Great professor! He makes his own textbook, so you are only doing work and problems that are directly related to the test. It is very straight-forward. He works through the book with the class, stopping every so often to let students work on problems. The book is also the homework, so the more you get done in class, the less homework you have.
Professor Eitel doesn't use a textbook, which I enjoyed, but his lectures can be hard to follow and I often had to have study groups with my friends because we were so lost on the subjects. He lets the class out early which is nice. His tests are fashioned after the homework, yet I still found them to be rather difficult.
Took Calc 1 with Professor Eitel. Very straight to the point class. Has lecture son website. We go over the lecture and then work on homework in class. Always stays after to help those willing to get ahead or those needing extra help. Straight-forward exams. Do your homework. Make the subject matter easy to understand. No textbook necessary.
He has his own workbook that you use instead of buying a textbook. All the homework is in this book and you end up doing most of it in class. He tells you everything that will be on the test and there are no surprises. If you go to class, pay attention and ask questions, it's a breeze. Only con is he goes off on tangents in his lectures often.
Professor Eitel is an excellent instructor! I've taken many math classes in which the professor's explanations of new mathematical concepts have only left me confused, but this was not my experience with Professor Eitel. His approach is thorough, simple, and straightforward. Moreover, he will stay late on test days if students require more time.
Professor Eitel made it very easy to understand, but you have to study and work for the grade. Only downfall is that he gets off topic and talks about something irrelevant to the class--this can go on for a hour. Grading is based on basically the 4 tests, but you have to do the homework so points don't get knocked from tests. No cumulative final!
In Calc 3 now. Got an A in Calc 2. Thanks for Eitel's Calc 1 class I am a great Calc student. Eitel prepares you to be successful in all math classes. Teaches straight to the point. No added fluff. Take him for any math class if you get the chance.
Professor Eitel was really good. He really knows what he is talking about, and has lots of experience in many science fields such as chemistry and physics. This really helps him teach math very practically, and for the real world. I would highly recommend him to all math students. Very helpful and answers questions well.
He was great. Homework on worksheets makes it easy to study for tests. Fair grader. Relates stuff to the real world sometimes, sometimes talks too much but worth it. Always willing to help
Not a good choice if you are a visual learner, or need to take notes to study. Lectures by skimming his online lectures that are crazy long, does no examples except some on homework for practice. Fast paced. Seems very hard to pass if you didn't take His pre calc class.
He's been dropping students left and right all semester for no good reason. One kid missed three days and got dropped, another attempted to leave early and got publicly hassled about it and then was dropped for checking his phone. He also goes off on tangents about unrelated stuff which makes it difficult to concentrate. 0/10
Great teacher! Cares about his students and works with you until you understand. To-the-point, makes analogies to make the math easier to understand. Always willing to work with you outside of class, doesn't mind questions at all, and makes sure you understand the material. Uses own book, answers included, no final exam.
Overall, he's a smart teacher, but he will go off on random tangents unrelated to class material. I believe he's just waiting for his retirement to start, and not focusing on the success of his students. Lastly, you have to complete all your homework, or else you are severely docked down on points.
He's a good professor that you will learn what is needed. The homework are a great segway for the exams and by the end of the semester, you can solve most of the problems. The exams aren't hard and has some extra credit so its hard to fail. He will stay behind to answer any questions. BUT he is often late to class,he's twice late for almost an hour
He has 8 total assignments. 4 tests (100 points each) and 4 homework assignments (10 points each). He makes it clear what will be on the test, but if you are not a superb test taker, DO NOT waste your time on this class. Missing just a small handful of problems takes a huge toll on your overall grade. You are also required to buy his $75 workbook.
I've always been good at math yet his lectures are incomprehensible. Class was a waste of time and I taught myself everything. Tests are 90% of the grade. If you rely on taking notes then don't take his class, its practically impossible. Instead you follow along with him doing homework problems, so if you forget to print them you have nothing to do
If you are a business or comp-sci major, this is absolutely your professor. If not, some of his tangents might be very difficult to follow. Hard to approach and is rough on those who ask questions he thinks are too simple. Not the most likable guy but is clearly very smart. Notes are near impossible to decipher and lectures are confusing.
Probably the best professor for Calculus. Teaches in his own ways which really helps students learn. The class wasn't that hard either, just study well and do good on the tests... He'll give you the best feedback... 10/10 professor
Great professor for statistics and definitely helps his students... I'd take this class to really understand statistics, the professor does a great job of making sure his students learn.
He doesnt know how to teach. It is true that he is really smart and he knows stats pretty good but he doesnt know how to teach his students.
Professor Eitel was great. If you want an A, do the homework assignments, come to class, ask questions, study & nail the test (4 of them). Class is out of 440 points. 10 points for homework per chapter, and 4 exams worth 100 points. Super test heavy , but if you can nail the homework, the test will be easy! Enjoyed coming to class at night.
He gave me a zero on my 2nd exam because he didnt like the format i turned in. Not on syllabus. Said i should have known from receiving 0s on previous work. He graded exam 2 for me before exam 1 and hw 1 and 2. so how was i supposed to know. I am now down 70 points i have 3 zeros for incomplete wont let me resubmit. I wont even be able to get a C+.
The professor was really nice when I failed my test because I didn't have enough time. Currently have an A in class. The book he uses is super easy to follow along with his lectures. You can do everything at your own pace. Lectures are clear. If you aren't good at math and need more help, definitely don't take the summer course.
He is actually not teaching you. All he has is bad videos and he isnt helping you at all. He doesnt go over test or send you a corrected test and I feel like I am not learning at all. This is the worst math teacher I have had in the history in my life. Even if I do end up getting a good grade, I will not be prepared for the next math class I take
His lectures are horrible and full of typos and wrong formulas. I have had to correct him numerous times, He does not provide feedback on homework answers or test answers, which makes me wonder if he is even grading them correctly based on the wrong formulas he provides. There are too many errors on the homework answers he gives. AVOID.
Took when we went from in-person to online. He recorded lectures and they were easy to follow. Homework was easy as he did examples from a book he created. I do not like how you pay $80 for a book he created. Attendance was mandatory when in person and the tests were based on HW. In-person he would go on long tangents about life. Easy A, meh class.
Super straight forward class. Only 4 tests, (ch4&5 are the hardest in my opinion) and 4 hw assignments. Work at your own pace. You have about a month between tests to study and get the hw done. The hw is like 50 pages in the workbook each time, but you have a month to do it. Tests are somewhat scheduled, gives you 2 days to do it (2 hour timed).
Very unfair grader. I left off asymptotes/holes in my graphs, but thoroughly showed my calculations in the rest of the packet. He gave me 5 /20 points because of this for 42 pages of work. On the final he tells all students "Don't ask me for the questions you missed" and he doesn't allow students to see which questions they got wrong. Stay away
Only gripe is the lack of points, so there's little room for mistakes if you want an A. But.. the tests are extremely fair - based off HW with some Q's straight from it. HW is long but easy, with 1-3 Youtube videos per section. Get it done BEFORE test day and you'll be prepared for the exam. I found this class very schedule friendly as well.
ALL the notes and homework answer keys are LITTERED in mistakes and wrong answers- makes it impossible to learn or check your answers. Only responds to emails a couple days a week, so very little feedback. Doesn't check any of his work, critical mistakes everywhere.
Great teacher. This is my second time taking a class with him and I think he's great. I am hoping to be able to take my Stat class with him as well. His textbooks are a little pricey but I like the fact that we can work ahead and at our pace because we know when everything will be due ahead of time.
He wasn't the worst math professor I've had, but he's not a very helpful teacher. He actively discourages students from contacting him for help; his hw, key, and tests are riddled with mistakes. He is also not lenient at all. It's test heavy, so if you want an A, you can't miss points, and he doesn't offer any way to improve your grade(I tried).
Honestly made online learning very easy. Posts lectures which are somewhat short but if you need the extra help he posts more for those people. His tests are exactly like the homework so just do the homework and you will be set. He is also great with communication, just send him an email and he responds very quick. Great teacher I recommend.
Professor had super straight forward tests. So easy compared to any other math professor I've taken. I didn't pass math 400 previous semester and ended up with an A+ this semester. Super easy if you do homework because tests are exactly like the homework.
I took him last semester and he was awesome but I dont know what happened this semester. His answer key was wrong. Doesnt respond to emails. Wasnt clear on his comments. He would say your homework is wrong. Didnt explain what I did wrong. I wont be taking him anymore.
He is a great professor, lectures are easy to understand, you can easily get an A by learning lectures, all of homework and exams are comes from his lectures and they are easy to do. It was a great experience with him.
I havent taken a math class in ten years and was extremely nervous going in but was able to pass. If youre really good with online and self taught classes this is the class for you. There is little interaction but thats how I like it. You do need to be present for the tests and the homework was due every week with a test every 3-4 weeks.
His class is very clear on what is expected of you which is what I look for most from a professor. If you do your homework you will do well. His lectures are well done and clearly explain everything. I love that I did not need to buy a book. If people have trouble he will post more online help.
Ever since I was a kid I always had issues with math but, Mr. Eitel made math so easy and I actually enjoyed learning it! His lectures are short and straight to the point and he cares for his students. I actually learned well and got a great grade because of him. I also liked how we didnt need a book!would definitely recommend him as a professor!!
Eitel's class is very fair in difficulty, he needs to have more points. If you get a B on a single test, or miss a HW, it seriously jeopardizes your chance of getting an A. He's very hands off: all his lectures are recorded, he's difficult to reach, and he's very blunt when you do reach him. Got an A in his pre-calc, but integration ended my A.
Eitel uses a workbook he made for MATH100, which is really helpful since there are alooot of problems to do for homework, so you can nail it on the test. Some HW problems show up on test. As long as you do every single homework problem, you'll get full credit. The answers are on the back, and he posts linked lectures, where he will go over the prob
This guy is a master craftsman at teaching you to use the tool called math. I am still trying to figure out how he made pre-calc so uncomplicated. He takes the mystery out of it and covers all the cases. He is as funny as a math teacher can be. "and there you go."
Professor Eitel was a very harsh professor. He was not at all understanding and gave me a bad grade in the class because I did the equations the way I taught myself to do them but still got the right answer. I ended up teaching myself the whole semester because his lectures were long and unhelpful and I had no other teacher interaction.
Expects you to spend days to complete one homework assignment where each week felt repetitive. Terrible to communicate with. Lectures were printed and prerecorded so you basically had to teach yourself week by week. Isn't fair on personal situations. You can tell he lost his passion in the subject and that disappoints me as I took him in the past.
I took Prof Eitel for MATH100 during the summer 2021 semester as a prereq for CHEM305. I really appreciated the textbook that he created, since it included the answers at the end, which reassured me and encouraged me to keep trying until I get the right answer. His lectures were posted on YouTube and were really helpful!
TERRIBLE PROFESSOR, the video lecture are not even the same with note packet. You have to find out by yourself. He did not even bother himself to talk to student about an issue. Do not enroll to this course. thanks
Professor Eitel deserves a lot of credit. He's an amazing math teacher and he really dives in to explain each problem. His workbooks and course layout are very clear and easy to understand. He is, by far, my favorite math teacher of all time. I look forward to taking more of his math classes throughout my educational path.
I have asked this man so many questions regarding test, hw, etc and I've been lucky to get more than a one-letter response. I cannot understand his lectures nor his feedback in my grades.
He doesn’t even answer your qabool when you need a little help.
He's a very strict grader and a minor mistake could take a lot of points off your homework or test. He's straightforward with what he wants and he'll take points off if you don't follow instructions. Don't take this class if you struggle with math. All learning is done through prerecorded lectures. I have little experience with stats and did fine.
There are absolutely no excuses accepted for late work. This class is Homework heavy and your grade relies on it regardless on good exam grades. I scored an average of 90% on all of my exams and still received a B because of my homework not being turned in on time due to my circumstances. Hence "no excuses". I gave up on emailing him for help.
Not horrible but hard to get into contact with. Grade is based upon homework assignments done in a mandatory textbook he wrote and online test (not proctored). Everything is always due on sundays & no cumulative exams. Exams were worded weirdly at times at sometimes hard to understand but not terrible. He also double-checks all scores
Terrible professor. I hope he gets on this site to read my review. The math itself isn't hard to get and his lectures are alright. Pretty straightforward but when it comes to harder math problems his lectures don't help. He isn't understanding at all and does not care what happened or your reason for whatever. Test heavy and homework heavy
I would not take it again, all of my other professor's grade normally where as joe grades like its the end of the world.
In general a very bad teacher, if you've taken the math before and need this course for credits, you should be fine. If you're new to Calculus, his online lectures are so bad and usually out of frame so you can't even see the work. He is very strict about grading homework and strict about deadlines. He is proabably going to retire soon
If you have never taken precalc and need a good explainer to learn, I would not recommend this class. If you are decent at math/precalc and/or like learning on your own, this class is good. Every Sunday homework is strictly due at 8pm, can be heavy. Every other Sunday or so is a multiple choice test and matches the homework exactly, no surprises.
This was the first math class where the lectures were broken down in a way that I could understand for the first time. The class itself was not easy for me but the lectures were amazing and I will seek him out for my next math classes. He was a bit sarcastic when I asked a question but I still appreciated the amazing lectures and did learn math.
prof eitel is one of the worst if not the worst professor i have taken a class with in college so far. He puts out so many long useless and boring lectures which do not help a bit on the homework which he grades so strictly and you only get credit if you do his way. terrible do not take this class
Eitel has a different class structure than most, but this allows for a lot of free time. One HW assignment is only do every 2 weeks (but I recommend completing all of them before the chapter test) Tests are very very similar to hw examples and not proctored. He gives clear expectations for each test, follow HIS steps and you will be fine!
This professor is pretty clear about the criteria and is able to help pretty often. There's no manditory homework, so most of the grade relies on tests. He's a great teacher, if you do the unrequired homework you'll for sure pass. If you don't, just make sure to refresh on concepts before the tests.
Taking Professor Eitel's class was a pleasure and a wonderful experience. Although the lecture videos and notes could use improvement with typos, they were extremely helpful in breaking down the concepts in calculus and made them easy to understand. I recommend that you print out the lecture notes and go over them on your own at your own pace.
When I submitted the tests, all I got to see was my score. I NEVER got to see what I got right or wrong. This left me unable to learn anything from the mistakes I made on my tests. Just had us type in the answer without asking to see supporting work. Deleted the course off Canvas before my final grade showed up in eServices.
Professor Eitel's recorded lectures were easy to follow. Exams were based on similar problems covered in lecture and homework materials (no surprises). Very thoughtful processor and sends out several reminders to his students through canvas.
Great online lectures, materials on Canvas, good problem sets (no cost) VERY accessible. Makes changes based on student feedback. Extremely encouraging! BEST online math class I've ever taken. I feel totally ready for Calculus. Was available to me after hours, gave me additional info to help reach goals
Most of the time you're teaching yourself, but he has premade notes and homework you can use with videos, does a of test every 2 weeks (at least for my case) and as long as you have some idea of what you are doing you should be fine in the class
Good structure, lectures. Lot of homework, not overly difficult, not a ton due, and it teaches you a lot. What drives me crazy though? The homework guides and lectures are FULL of typos. I mean full of them. Syllabus says we are responsible for pointing out, why not proofread it? Too many errors to put that responsibility on the students.
Good professor with fantastic online lectures, only downside was issues with continuity with the hw and the answer key for the hw. It was frustrating to not know if I was doing work correctly.
After taking 2 more math classes without him, I miss how informative and thorough his lectures are. He breaks everything down into simple concepts and is very clear about which information we will be tested on. 70% of the exams look like the HW, so if you pay attention in class you will pass at the minimum. A little effort goes a LONG way.
Your entire grade is made up of four tests which don't allow you to see your mistakes. The course is taught through very old videos that are plagued with errors and typos. Homework is not collected for a grade and the answer key is often incorrect. This course allows you to work at your own pace, but make sure you don't procrastinate.
Your entire grade is made up of four tests which don't allow you to see your mistakes. The course is taught through very old videos that are plagued with errors and typos. Homework is not collected for a grade and the answer key is often incorrect. He does not give any explanation about any homework you make mistake. Don't take it his class.
Prof Joe is the worst prof that I have been taking any math class since in college. Please don't take it with him online you will regret it. He has four test exams, and he will not give you any explanation about your mistake. Homework grading he is horrible at giving point HW. He does not give feedback on exams or homework.
Professor Eitel was the worst math teacher I have had. He doesn't even teach the class because he uses very old YouTube videos as his "lectures". You can barely hear him in the videos and he doesn't give any feedback. He is very old school when it comes to teaching. If you prefer to learn from your mistakes, do not take him.
Prof Joe really makes it easy to understand the problems. I failed algebra in high school and now I passed this class bc of how thorough he is with the video lectures and hw. I've never understood math, and have never taken geometry, and now I do. Highly recommend Intro to Mathematical Ideas for people who struggle with algebra.
The structure of the class is very simple and you can work at your own pace and he provides video lectures. But, he does not give the greatest feedback on homework, you cannot see your mistakes on tests, and there are typos on them, the homework, and keys that we are supposed to point out to him. Tests are very similar to HW so focus up
Professor Joseph Eitel is an outstanding instructor for Math 400.Their expertise in the subject matter is evident through clear and concise explanations of complex mathematical concepts.Professor Eitel goes above and beyond, providing accessible office hours and constructive feedback that demonstrates a genuine investment in each student's success.
Great professor and class with very informative lectures. It's a difficult subject, though, so I would personally recommend supplementing the lectures with videos from YouTube. The test format was clear and understandable, and the tests were very similar to the homework questions. 4 exams and about 10 sets of mandatory HW
Nice guy, would recommend watching lectures on 1.5x speed. No graded homework, but pls do the hw anyway if passing and comprehension is important. Only graded on four tests. Lectures were perfect for me, totally understandable and simple. No nonsense. Great class
I definitely would recommend this professor to everyone. I took Math 300 with him. He is amazing. His video lectures are clear and easy to follow. All homework and quizzes were on My Math Lab. Only 1 homework assignment a week, and 4 quizzes for the whole semester. Quizzes are very similar to homework. He provides lecture notes, hw examples, & PP.
I could have applied myself more for this class, my grade reflects it. There are 4 main tests and homework is not graded. Highly recommend doing the homework still! As long as you watch the lectures and take notes you will pass this class. No meetings required.
I had great experience in professor Eitel's class. It was an online class for MATH 370. He provides lectures in pdfs and plenty of homework to practice (you don't have to submit it). You receive grades for tests only and if you do your homework, these tests won't be hard for you. You can get extra credit by doing your homework very responsibly.
Prof. Eitel's been around the block, in terms of teaching math, and he REALLY knows how to explain it well. I LOVED how light the hw requirements were, it allowed me to go through at my own pace. The four tests make up the majority of your grade, but as long as you do all the hw problems and clearly get concepts, you'll do great. Great guy.
They were super confusing when it came to getting the online program My Math Lab and interacting with the Professor at all was horrible in all honesty. But the class was super easy and the program did all the work so it was orderly and easy to understand. I would take this class again, it was an easy A, a rough start getting everything set up.
Pretty good professor. He's obviously been doing this for a long time, his lectures are very good highly recommend watching them. Only thing is the written tests have to be done his way or no credit is given. Pay attention to exactly his methods for any written assignment.
Great math teacher. Online course was provided with YouTube lectures and his own notes you can print out. ONLY CON IS so many mistakes/errors in the notes! But I liked his style of teaching, it was super clear and as someone who sucks at math he made it made sense! Love how his exams were multiple choice! Def easier than my trig class TBH. STUDY!!!
Lecture videos are surprisingly informative and easy to learn. Hardly have to do any homework (one HW assignment every two weeks). The tests are not too hard, each is about 25 questions (95% of questions are multiple choice). Do every homework assignment because the tests have lots of questions that are very similar, if not the same exact question
Took this online asynchronous. His video lectures are fine. Homework was not mandatory to turn in, but doing them benefited. The exams were fine and didn't deviate from the material. Overall good prof, and structure of online class was fine.
Professor Joe Eitel's Math 370 online class was excellent. His clear explanations and organized materials made complex topics easy to grasp. He was always available for questions, which helped me earn an A. Highly recommend his class!
Lectures are informative, but tests require memorizing the professor's exact methods. Supplementing with resources like unstuckstudy ai can help with study prep. Overall, a manageable class if you stay on top of the work.
He is ok, but "teaches" from his I don't know how old of notes that have errors in them and are not THAT helpful, I had to have my dad help me teach from his notes. There was an error on one of his tests and he only gave back 2 points (1 question = 4 pts) for his mistake, and I'm not sure if for everyone. You also can't review your tests Fall 2023
blud is like a senile boomer like if joe biden was a calc prof. not the best prof if you want to learn material well, but if you want an easy straightforward grade this is your guy. don't take if you struggle learning material on your own. countless errors in lecture/hw material. very little work. class was so light for me. very very very doable.
All or nothing grader. To get full cred on hw, it needs to be done perfectly. If not, you get an F. This includes missing your name. Can not write a single legible sentence. Online class gets old lecture notes filled with typos. Does not offer feedback. Just take a diff prof, you will at least get feedback and decent lectures from them.
Spelling mistakes in every single message make them hard to understand. Answers to the homework are often wrong. Guide to help you with the homework is also often wrong or not the right problem. Gave me no credit for a homework assignment because I didn't do exactly what he wanted even though I showed my work and got the right answer.
A good prof for Calc 1. He has very set and hard-fast expectations for the work he wants shown, especially on tests and may mark questions wrong for not showing the necessary steps. Other than that, tests are based heavily on HW questions so if you do the homework you will do fine in the course. He also has extra credit questions on test sometimes.
This professor is great! He explained things very well and I never had trouble understanding him. He had a HW assignment for each section but then only required 1 ever other week as participation. His main grade was exams so if you skimped on the HW then the exam would really kill your grade.
The professor is great and easy going! Please read the syllabus and homework guidelines carefully; he will deduct points if you don't follow them. The lecture videos are not super long, but very important since you can't to the HW without them, and the test questions are based on them. Also, leaves feedback on the HW question you missed.
No textbook, uses videotaped lectures, writes his own homework and tests which are not error free. Almost no feedback on assignments or tests. Points deducted for timing out while taking online tests, which reduced grade. Would not recommend if you have to continue on to Calc 2. I have zero confidence that I am prepared for the next course.
Almost all printed lecture notes contain errors in equations that will throw you off. Lecture videos were recorded in 2020 and do not always match the corresponding printed notes. I had difficulty following his lectures as he barely explain things and expects you to know all the advanced algebra that you've probably never learn in High School.
The WORST professor I have had at FLC. Through my 2 years at this school, I have had 0 problems with any professors. None compare to the utter B.S. you will put up with in this joke of a class. Deducts points for entirely correct hw answers. Attendance requirement is just dumb, why should I be "potentially dropped" for not scoring perfect on hw?
Read the syllabus closely, for there will be no flexibility in it. The class is straightforward and thorough, with both written lectures and video lectures for each section and sub-section. The video lectures were incredibly helpful. Grading is done promptly, and you are to do homework only every other week for one section of a chapter.
Very structured class, stick to the syllabus, no exceptions. Videos are short but key for homework and exams, so don't skip them. Not the most exciting, but they explain exactly what's expected. Grading is tough and precise; do it his way. Gives helpful feedback, but expects full effort and attention to detail.
He is good as a Professor, however you should be prepared for typos in homework, lectures. The tests aren't easy and have though rules, so learn materials. I enjoyed the class.
Pros -He is a good Professor and teachs his subject from different perspectives. -Lectures are understandable. -You really have to know the material and understand concepts instead of thoughtless memorization to pass the class. -Course is well orginized. Cons -There are some typos and mistakes in lectures and homework, so be careful about them.
Straightforward curriculum and lectures. Lots of practice to ensure students understand material.
If you are taking this class online, take time to watch the lectures and take notes to learn. You will do well if you do this because the tests become easier once you do some practice problems as well. Tests consist of similar work to what you were taught, testing your ability fairly.
Tests were similar to the homework/lectures. Do all the homework and you will get a good grade. Only downside is he doesn't let you go over tests after submission.
Would not recommend. You must get 10/10 on homework for it to count. I submitted early but didn't get feedback until the due date, so couldn't fix it. Instructor dropped me beacause if you have 2 of these assignments not "complete" then he can drop you.
This was the worst professor I've ever had. I submitted my homework on time as PDFs, but he gave me zeroes because the images were “too zoomed in.” He refused to zoom out or view them properly. When I resent the same work as JPGs, he still wouldn't accept it, saying it was “late.”. Has no sympathy for his students.
Teacher did not have any sympathy and will not work with you. Printer was broken one week, gave me a 1/10 for not having printed pages. Comments on every assignment but will not respond to your comment. Difficult teacher overall.
It's an easy class only if you know Calculus before hand. His lectures are outdated and contain many errors. The homework guides also contain errors which makes it hard to actually learn anything correctly. The tests and homework are a reflection of the lessons taught though so thats nice.
