great professor but class is pretty hard, only 2 exams and semster long project
never in office, hardcore with grading, expectatoins are too high,3 nice guy and smart, 4 unfortunatley i didn't learn anything, class was hard and only 2 exams. if you do bad oh well. that's the sentiment. could ease up.
nice guy but doesnt teach that much... expectations are high and he can be very unclear at times... not very helpful when you go to him with questions
He is the best professor I have ever had. He is very clear, and explains everything in detail. He allows extra credit and is an all around great guy! Take him!
Throws you in the water to sink or swim. Added new case to workload that only confuses you and does not offer explanation. Only 2 tests and 2 major projects. NOT EASY
Very good professor. always willing to help. does expect students to do the work..duh. Do the homework and participate to get "P's".
his extra credit "P" system is b.s./unfair (except to those favorite students of his that benefit from it)
Awesome professor! Always willing to help when asked. Do the homework, get "P's", and use the study guides.
FUNNY-LAID BACK-KNOWS WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT. This guy tells you what you need for the tests exactly! What else do you want? You have to study, extra credit is simply-just do the questions get 6pts on every exam! TAKE HIM!
Farinella is a great finance teacher. All the girls in the class thought he was so cute...and maybe a few guys! He's really helpful and gives easy extra credit (about 6 points) on each test if you do some extra work.
He's really nice and wants everyone to succeed. Cases and project can be unclear as far as what exactly he wants you to do so ASK QUESTIONS! Easily and often gets off topic. Tests are difficult, but you'll still learn a lot. He's a great guy.
Knows his stuff. Great guy, too. The project in investment managment was the most fun I've ever had in class. I graduated 2 years ago and called him earlier this year to get a recommendation letter for grad school...no hesitation.
great prof. do the extra credit and hw. study the hw and the notes from class and you can ace the test.
Farinella is a nice guy but very focused in class. The HW is extra credit for each test so do it! The class in general is hard and he does go over the material very quickly so pay attention or you will be totally lost. And doesn't like when people talk in his class gets very upset about it.
Not always clear on what he expects from group projects but grades them somewhat easy. laughs at his own jokes too much and wastes class time. 2 tests and they are fair and gives extra credit opportunity. Stock game is a lot of fun.
Pretty hard class. Do the HW for extra credit and make sure to study really hard for the test because there are only 2 and they count for a major part of your grade. Mid-term was fairly easy, final was super hard.
Farinella is actually a pretty nice guy but he tends to go over content really quickly so if Finance is not your strong suit I would definitely recommend studying for sure! He gives problems before every test as well as optional homework assignments and chapter questions for extra credit.
He is entertaining but it's hard to concentrate on what he says because of the computers in the class. The tests are hard but the class does teach you a lot. I would recommend this class. All the projects seem harder than they actually are. Make sure you get a good group in the beginning or you will be screwed!!!
Very good professor. Learned a lot from the case studies. Tests were not easy, if you read the textbook and go to class you will be fine.
Awesome guy, really smart and helpful. But you need to know your stuff. If finance is your major he will more than prepare you but a considerable amount of effort is required. I got a 75, 80 and tbd grade on his 3 tests respectively... think I will probably end up with a B.
Only complaint is that your grade is only comprised of 3 tests. If you need help or have questions he is more than willing. Each chapter has 2 assignments. One is questions out of the book, the other is written by him. Test questions can come from both, so make sure you do all them. Also he gives out bonus points each chapter.
Great professor ! Really easy class. He is Really helpful and he is always willing to you clear any doubt
Best teacher I have ever had but class is still fairly challenging.
He lost our groups case study and claimed he gave it back to someone in our group, which he did not. He doesn't have an attendance policy, but he expects you to come to class. His first test is moderately hard and his final is very difficult for most students. It's a sink or swim type of class. I would not recommend this professor to anyone.
Only complaint I have about Farinella is that he can be a little scattered in his lectures. Other than that he's awesome. Smart guy, funny, and really wants everyone to do well. Gives extra credit like its candy! Would definitely recommend.
One of the best professors I've encountered at UNCW. The book is important for extra credit, and some exam vocab questions but other than that, if you go to class he makes the concept easy to understand. No attendance policy but you are assured an A if you go to every class and take his notes/do the chapter assignments, that he gives you answers to
Farinella is an awesome professor but be prepared to do a lot of work on your own. He goes over good notes, assigns useful problems, but it is totally up to you to actually learn and make the concepts stick. Not an easy A but if you are okay with working, he was adorable
Farinella is a good teacher, he is very smart but the class is tough for sure. If you do not pay attention to the class lectures the tests will be challenging for you. He does offer some extra credit which is helpful for the tests. Also make sure you are matched with good people for group projects. I would recommend him.
Great course for investment finance students, and Farinella does a good job conveying the many concepts and methods of valuating companies, as well as knowledge into other investment related areas. I would have preferred more guidance in the two cases in exchange for more strict grading though. And Farinella always gave interesting lectures!
Dr. Farinella is an AWESOME professor. He is funny, very genuine and open minded. He explains the concept in an easy way that allows you to understand. He offers a LOT of EXTRA CREDIT. 2 Group cases throughout the semester. Exams are challenging. You MUST STUDY and even tho attendance is not require, go to class!! its fun guys
Farinella is a great teacher. Easy assignments. Tests are hard, go to class- lectures are on the tests. would recommend teacher for investments
I enjoyed Farinella's class, the only thing I didn't enjoy was how he assumed we already knew certain things about Finance. Before this class I had only taken FIN335 and FIN330, which is probably my fault but if he could have been more specific when teaching this class, it would have been better. All in all he's a good guy and a decent professor.
Farinella is a great guy. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you don't go to class odds are you won't pass. I would highly recommend his class. He knows his stuff and offers extra credit so getting a good grade isn't impossible.
He is a very nice professor who is willing to work with you if you show up to class and turn in the extra credit homework. The tests were tough for me, but the cases helped my grade. He let us use a note card for the test as well. Make sure you take notes in class because the problems he goes over in class are on the test.
Outside the classroom work is much needed to do well, good stories to relate topics and an enjoyable professor
okay teacher, tests are hard. Would take again, should have a prior class that goes into more investments so that you are prepared for this class. do the extra credit homework
Dr. Farinella is a Professor who wants you somewhat to learn stuff by yourself. On the other hand, he would always help you when he is asked, but you need to ask. His lectures are entertaining and diverse. He is pretty clear in what he expects from you, however, his exams are hard.
I would definetly recommend taking this class. In the beginning, it is a lot of work, but if you do it correctly, you will get a 90 or above. He really cares about his students and if you try and pay attention, you can get an A
I love Dr. Joe, he is a fantastic professor and I would recommend taking this class every chance you get. Shoutout to you Dr. Joe!
I really enjoyed this class. Farinella really wanted to help you as much as possible using extra credit. The tests are challenging but the assignment questions are on the tests.
Very interesting class, good opportunity to understand how investment works in the real world with a real investment strategy on StockTrack and cases that are very relevant. Very entertaining and even if required some work for the cases, you have the ability to get 6 to 9 extra credit on each exam thanks to weekly homework. Mr. Farinella is great.
Great teacher, wants you to do well. This class is a lot of work, but if you go to class he explains clearly how to do projects, and the material that will be on the exams. There is also extra credit homework that count towards the midterm and final.
He curves tests by a lot but his tests are hard and not similar to the homework. You have to understand finance to do well, do the EC!!! he is a nice guy and works with you to pass if you show that you care but his tests are hard given the amount of time. I got a 74 after the curve, a 58, and a 87 on the final so its possible. just study
Love his class and being a finance student because of this class. Goes into great detail
Gives lot of extra credit opportunities which makes a difference on the test
Great professor. Gives you a ton of opportunity to do well in the class. Since it is a finance class, you do need to go to class as much as possible. Would definitely recommend taking him!
Farinella is the man, he's a great teacher and he provides some good comic relief. He really understands the subject matter and gives solid real applicable questions. he also challenges us with extra credit opportunity. I enjoy coming to class. Its not the easiest subject for most, but he teaches it well and gives good examples and excredit opport.
Gives you the textbook, Extra credit throughout the semester, Works out equations during class. must read chapters in the book, has video and slide lectures online
Great professor, who explains the concepts well! Also provides the textbook for you so taking his class will save you some money and as long as you show up for class and take notes everyday you will succeed in his class.
funny person. do extra credits for each chapter. difficult lectures
He is very informative and good at explaining things clearly. He also have lecture videos online to go back and look over. another plus is that he gives you the required textbook. This class is hard though so expect to study, you will learn.
Dr. Farinella is a great professor. It's hard to make finance interesting, but he is able to. He gives many, many, many extra credit opportunities so make sure you take advantage of them
Easy class. Pertinent to the real world. The better you understand math, the easier the class but not necessary to get an A.
He is an excellent professor. But you've got to pay attention.
Funny and laid back professor, knows his stuff. Often shares informative and entertaining stories relating to finance.
Mr. Farinella is a great professor. He is funny and makes lectures interesting. He offers plenty of extra credit and curves tests. This is a difficult class but he will take the time and help you if you ask. If you come to class, take notes, and study you will get a good grade in the class.
Professor Farinella is a great professor who wants everyone to do well in the class. While trying to challenge you, he gives so much extra credit meaning it will be hard to do bad. I reccomend him to anyone trying to take FIN 335.
He allows a lot of opportunity for extra credit. The book is not required however if you do purchase it, the chapter reviews are extra credit. Most all of the grades are based on the group projects, i.e. stock track, public company valuation, tightly held company valuation. Other wise really cool guy, great professor, would recommend him.
Probably the best professor for FIN 335 as compared to the other professors that teach the subject. Really nice guy, gives out lots of extra credit and answers questions without hesitation. He is very knowledgeable with the material, but sometimes that causes him to go too quickly through it leaving you confused. Just go to class and SI sessions.
I enjoyed taking his class and learned a lot from it. In order to learn, you have to attend class.
His tests are super hard.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but he tells you what will be on the test and how to do the Stock Track assignments/Cases. If you do the chapter questions you get extra credit. The class itself is difficult, but he makes it doable and wants to help you!! I wouldn't have taken this class if it was with anyone else.
Farinella isn't a bad professor, he knows exactly what he's talking about when it comes to investing and will make sure that you know it by the time the semester ends. Material is hard but he's not to blame for it, he does well to explain it in the clearest way possible
Love Farinella! Had him for 335 and 430. His tests are hard, yes, but if you come to class, pay attention, do the extra credit and all the things he asks you should be just fine. He is always available to answer your questions. Attendance is not mandatory but you won't want to miss it because (1) you will fall behind (2) lectures are kept fun
He aims to challenge his students but wants them to do well. He provides several extra credit opportunities to add point to your exam grades. I feel like I could never miss a class or else I would fall far behind. He also uploads lecture videos and tip sheets to help study.
Class isn't mandatory but he works out equations in class and helps with questions you have. Extra credit for each chapter and afterschool study sessions. He makes it pretty easy to pass
Professor Farinella is a really bright professor. At times it is difficult to understand his concepts but his lectures are filled with examples that are just like the homework. He gives lots of extra credit and curves his exams. Overall I enjoyed taking his class but it did get more and more challenging as the semester went on.
He's a funny teacher and knows his stuff, but doesn't go over the whole chapter in class, just the equations from that chapter. I personally wouldn't take him again because of this.
Professor Farinella is a great teacher. He does everything he can to help his students and gives many opportunities for extra credit. He clearly explains what he expects from his students and goes over A LOT of examples in class. Many HW questions are on the test so study the HW. Would recommend him to anyone in need of this class.
Farinella is a genuine guy who clearly knows what he is talking about. I wouldn't say he's a bad teacher, but he stands in front of the white board while he's lecturing which makes note taking pretty hard. Also, some of the stuff he teaches in class doesn't line up with the homeworks, my SI instructor even has trouble going over his material.
Prof. Farinella is one of the best teachers I had. He is very knowledgeable and I would definitely recommend taking him. His exams are very easy and his lectures are funny and interesting. Attendance is not mandatory and you get the textbook from him, so you don't have to buy it. Even if you don't come to class, you can do very well on the exams.
Smart guy, knows the material. Will pass if you go to class and ask questions. Also a lot of extra credit opportunities
Really cool professor, offers a lot of extra credit which was a big help.
Prof. Farinella is a good professor. Finance isn't my strength per se, but he gives a lot of extra credit opportunities, so if you put in the work, you can definitely still get an A. As a person, he is really nice and funny.
Most of the lecture is him showing examples on the marker board. There is a lot of extra credit opportunities which really helps on the exams. Overall he is a great finance professor that I would take again.
Dr. Farinella is great. He does lecture on difficult material, but he does provide a lot of extra credit. Every "homework" you do is an extra point on the test and he asks questions in class for extra credit. He uses a great learning program StockTrak to help you learn how to invest. His 2 Cases take time so don't procrastinate but they aren't bad
The class is not very hard. Couple group projects with papers. One presentation. If you don't understand something he will further explain it so you understand it. Happy and nice professor.
Makes class fun
Farinella is great. He wants everyone to do well in his class and offers a lot of extra credit. His class has a lot of work but most is extra credit/group projects. He has a lot of energy in his lectures and in-class examples are very helpful.
Was a great class, but certainly one you won't be able to get a good grade in without putting in time and effort outside of class. No required hw, but it helps a ton on the tests to work through it, plus it is collected as extra credit points.
I really enjoyed Dr. Farinella's class. The cases and tests are very tough but as long as you study you should be fine. Attendance is not mandatory but definitely encouraged as it certainly helped me.
Dr. Farinella is a great instructor! He gives many opportunities for extra credit in class and outside of class. The best way to study for his tests are by using the study guides he has online and by doing the homework (which is also extra credit that applies for their respective tests). The projects help you better understand the material too.
My favorite professor at UNCW. Would take him for 335 too if I could go back in time. If there was ever a professor to "change my life" or inspire me in life, its him. I left every class feeling like I had a new perspective on the future/making money.
I highly recommend taking Professor Farinella for FIN335. He gives out countless chances for extra credit and makes a boring subject much more interesting. Tests are difficult but if you come to class and pay attention they are much more manageable.
Joe is a great professor! It is not too easy, but if you work daily it is not hard to pass! Besides, he offers many extra credit opportunities, which helps a lot!
Professor Farinella is my favorite professor at UNCW. He does a great job of applying course content to real-world scenarios. He also always has great stories during his lecture and keeps the class interesting. If you complete the pre chapter assignments he gives you 1 extra credit point on your exam for each chapter!
Dr. Farinella is an amazing professor. He relates his work experience with topics in the class which keep lectures interesting. There are tons of opportunities for extra credit. The cases he assigns are challenging, but they are worth it to help you understand the material.
Farinella is a great professor that keeps the class engaged and eager to learn about investing.
He understands that finance is tough for many people so there are many ways to receive extra credit. He makes boring topics seem more interesting. Tests are a bit hard but if you pay attention to the problems he reviews in class and do the homework they aren't too bad.
Farinella is a great professor. His lectures are great and he covers all the material needed for every exam. The class is very tough at the beginning of the semester but manageable after the first exam. You learn a lot of useful information that can be applied to the real world in the field of finance.
One of the best professors! Lectures are never boring and are full of real life stories. Gives extra credit for chapter questions and random spurts of knowledge in class. The two exams are pretty straight forward and if you pay attention in class and study for at least an hour you'll do fine! The two group projects take time but are simple
Farinella gives you all the resources to succeed in his class. He cares about his students and their well-being. Would take again.
An easy-going professor that understands the content isn't understood by all. He gives lots of opportunities to make-up points and get extra credit since his class can be test heavy. Only grades were the test and online "quiz" assignments that correspond with chapters.
Great professor and great class! He provides extra credit homework for each chapter for extra points on the tests. He gives real-life examples for everything we learn and teaches things that are applicable in the real world. Homework is easy, projects are in groups, and there are only two tests.
Class includes a lot of group work. Two exams, you will have to study a good amount to do well. Group work will help boost your grade in the class. He is a great teacher and you will learn a lot if you apply yourself.
Was a very good and informative teacher. Gave lots of real world examples and the case assignments are very practical and give great experience. The cases are definitely difficult and require a good amount of time but he grades very generously for them as long as you do the work. Lots of extra credit available if you want it. Definitely recommend.
Show up and do all the extra credit and you will get a A in this class. Joe does a good job at explaining everything.
A-lot of assignments applicable to the real world. Willing to help with papers and difficult concepts outside of class. Could add more to lectures and provide more examples/practice problems.
Great teacher! Fun and interesting lectures, Farinella's the man. Would take him again for sure.
Dr. Farinella was great for both Fin 335 and Fin 430. Caring and outgoing professor that does a good job teaching the material in a way that enables students to understand it. The stock trak group project was also a lot of fun and my favorite group project I've done in college.
Dr. Farinella is a demanding professor with huge knowledge. It is an interesting class with a lot of learning potential.
Funny dude, defiantly lays back and expect you to learn some on your own. Super nice dude and willing to help you. He gives tons of extra credit so do the chapter questions and go to SI sessions! im ending up with like 12+ extra credit points on the final.
Good professor with a lot of knowledge. Makes you work for your grade but will answer any questions that you have.
Gives out a lot of extra credit opportunities. Test are hard but you can get a good grade if you study. He gives a clear study guide for all test. Big group project that was very fun and informational on investing. Funny teacher who spends great deal of class time explaining group projects so theres no confusion. Need textbook to study for test.
The class is very interesting. Make sure to take hand written notes whenever he does his notes on the board, those are the most important.
You'll need the textbook if you want to do the extra credit assignments and study practice problems for exams, but outside that the textbook is not needed. Try and borrow it from a friend
Farinella is the best finance teacher at uncw. He knows what he is talking about and makes class interesting.
He is the man! Class is pretty difficult, but Farinella explains information very well to help understand. Gives lots of extra credit!! Would recommend taking Farinella for this class.
Farinella is the man! He cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He is always willing to help and go over things. The material a little hard but if you put in the effort it is not that bad. Only 2 exams and 2 projects but he gives a lot of extra credit opportunities! Would deff take him again!
Knows how to teach the material with a good sense of humor but he goes really in depth about the topics that he teaches. Test are very difficult and you will need extra study time to do well. Gives lots of extra credit opportunities, not very many homework asisgnemnts.
Dr. Farinella is an amazing professor. He is very knowledgeable and is willing to help students in any way. He is also funny (if you're into numbers) and he makes the class time fly by. Take him!
Great guy, really knows his stuff. The homework and projects aren't easy, but he explains what he's looking for and makes sure all students are prepared for everything. Can answer any Finance question you might have; a walking Wikipedia page. Legend.
Man that was a tough class, but so much fun. Farinella really cares about his students, but this is an intensely difficult class. I took it during the summer, DO NOT DO THAT!!! That was a big mistake. Would have probably been easier if taken in person. Tons of work but feels good to get it done!
Probably one of the best teachers I have had at UNCW, class had a lot of group projects that werent that bad, and 2 exams which he gives extra credit on
This class was terrible. I taught myself the entire class and could not ask questions without him getting mad. The exams were extremely hard and the class average was barely passing so he added extra credit. If this class is an elective, just take another one unless you know a lot about investing prior to taking the class, then you'll be fine.
Farinella has been my favorite prof this semester. He goes fast so if you doze off you're screwed, but he's a pretty engaging lecturer so don't worry about that. The content is somewhat complicated but Farinella explains it enough times that you should be able to get it. A great professor who rewards effort and curves generously. Highly recommend.
A little all over the place and a little chaotic but an amazing professor. He's a funny light hearted kinda guy. Gave out lots of extra credit. Lectures were engaging and very helpful. Highly recommend.
This class is difficult no matter who you have, but I wouldn't have wanted to take it with anyone else. Three exams, all in person by scantron. Curve given on all exams because the class average was around a C for each exam. He does goa little fast with some topics, and if you don't teach yourself that topic it gets rough.
Great guy, he will explain things in detail and has every lecture posted online if you miss class. He gives extra credit points in class if you answer specific questions and they can really help your grade.
Good professor, manageable workload while teaching well. No complaints
Extremely generous with extra credit points. Makes what would be a boring subject bearable.
Professor Farinella is a great teacher who is passionate about what he teaches. He knows what he is talking about. He gives out a lot of extra credit points so definitely attend class even if it is not required. He truly wants you to succeed.
Professor Farinella is a great professor who has very clear guidelines for this course. Each day he comes to class with a positive attitude which makes you want to be present. He cares very much about teaching the class and does a great job at it. Highly recommend!
Decent professor. Make sure to take time to study. He does gives lot of extra credit points which helps. Make sure to do the practice problems as well.
I had taken his FIN 335 class this past semester, and he's a great professor. The subject as a whole was definitely not easy for me at all; it was one of the more challenging classes I've taken. Nevertheless, Professor Farinella cares about his students and has fun teaching his classes. Gives out extra credit as well which helped me out.
He is a really good professor. He offers a lot of chances for extra credit if you are paying attention you can get up to 10 extra credit points on each test if you watch the videos he has posted on canvas. quizzes and tests are a little hard sometimes
Really enjoyed Professor Farinella's class. Really good grading criteria with lots of chances for extra credit. Very understanding but the lectures and homeworks are necessary to go to for success in the class.
If you aren't a finance major, I would recommend Farinella. He breaks down concepts, and is very lenient with extra credit. I really struggle with math courses and Farinella was really helpful, especially when it comes to exams. He tells you what you need to know, and as long as you study what he tells you, you should be fine.
It is important that you pay attention in the lectures, covers information quickly but is easy to understand if you pay attention.
Was very happy with the overall class, difficult material but taught well and professionally.
Joe Farinella is a great professor but be aware that you will need to stay on top of your work and attend class if you want to get a good grade. In-class lectures aren't super in depth, but you have plenty of resources to study the material. The tests are not easy, but he provides a curve to help his students out and the practice quizzes are huge.
McGrawHill homework and quizes is a lot harder then most of the exams and he grades with a curve for the exams.
Professor Farinella is a great teacher. There is a homework assignment and a quiz due every Sunday and there are 3 tests in total. He gives you all the material you will need to do well on the quizzes and test. I highly recommend him for FIN 335
Definitely my favorite professor at this school. Dr. Farinella is funny asf, and he's a great instructor too. Homie gives out so many extra credit points if you come to class/participate. Finance is a tough class regardless of the professor, but Farinella makes it easy to digest.
I am not really into Finance or understand it all that well, but Prof Farinella did a pretty good job making it as easy as it can be. Definitely a class you have to put lots of effort into, but it is do-able!!
Great person and professor. The class is hard for someone not in finance but he gives extra credit and a curve on test. If you put in the work you will do great!
He is very funny and loves to help you understand finance. He gives lots of extra credit so be ready!
Watch his online lectures before lecture and take the practice quizzes as you go! This will help you so much on the exams since most of the questions are directly from the practice quizzes! The weekly textbook quizzes are hard but his exams are straight-forward. He gives lots of extra credit points for participation based off his videos
He was a motivating teacher and cared about his students. Gives out a lot of extra credit
Connect quizzes, posted videos on Canvas, and in person you go over example problems very similar to the in-person test. Not hard if you pay attention, and asking him questions one on one was always helpful. Funny and accessible.
Great professor for finance. He does a great job breaking down the material if you ask.
Make sure to do the practice problems and watch the online lectures.
This class takes time to understand. Make sure to set aside enough time to study and complete the practice problems.
Takes time to make sure you understand material and gives extra credit points that help go to your exams
Mr. Farinella was a great professor and is able to explain the course content very well. The homework assignments and quizzes every week are a great way to learn and practice the material. He gives out many extra credit points towards the next exam each class.
I struggled understanding most concepts but it's all based on studying a lot to understand the material. Dr. Farinella overall has a really great personality. He offers plenty of extra credit opportunities in class.
Not a bad prof. at all, I just don't enjoy finance. He is a super cool guy and makes class cool. He does expect you to know a good amount of information before going over it. He shows you how to use the BA 2 plus extremely well. There are extra credit opportunities so make sure you watch the videos for those. Attendance optional, no textbook needed
Not an easy class but definitely passable. Prof Farinella is funny and definitely wants us to do well.
I enjoyed Professor Farinella a lot. Even though I did not get the best grade, he is still a very experienced and interesting person to learn from. I would definitely recommend him to anyone considering taking a finance class. You can't go wrong with him.
utilize extra resources provided (practice quizzes&homework), showing up to class makes a big difference
Although attendance is not mandatory, a huge amount of extra credit is given when you show up. Utilize the practice test questions, as they are very beneficial towards the information on exams.
Make sure you show up to class because its a very formula and problem heavy course.
Solid professor. Pay attention in class and you will be fine.
Great professor, makes the material easy to learn.
Great professor
Relatively easy class if you study and put in the time.
Great class and a great professor.
he's okay. lots of random in class extra credit like for answering questions and stuff. his tests are not bad.
He is an excellent professor but the course itself is just tough. Attendance was not mandatory but I felt it was difficult to do okay without going he gives a lot of extra credit. OVerall great course
The course is tough but he definitely wants you to succeed. Attendance wasn't mandatory but if you don't go you wont understand anything. He gives out extra credit points during class for answering questions. He always makes sure the class average on a test is an 80% which is fair. He never responded to any of my emails which was annoying.
Very smart guy will drop random investing hints.
attendance is not mandatory but definitely necessary. He drops a lot of golden information that can be used as an investor.
He is amazing !!!!
Great class overall if you study!
Really smart guy who wants you to succeed. He is always open to answering questions, and gives a lot of extra credit during class if you attend.
Overall, great professor. Recommend studying quizzes to help with exams. Lots of extra credit during lectures. Keeps the lecture enjoyable.
Funny guy, who cares about his students doing well.
Prof farinella is just a really happy guy. He is a financial EXPERT and he has a very solidified understanding of his course material, and could easily explain all of his concepts outside of his slides. He gives tons of chances to get extra credit, you just have to come to class. Overall great guy, definitely recommend
Farinella is a walking finance encyclopedia and an overall great guy. His tests are very tough but he gives you every opportunity to do well in the class. Skip class you wont do well
Going to class is important may be hard to figure out all of the various formulas on your own
Make sure you memorize the formulas for the exam.
He is the man. TOUGH, but fair. If you take his 430 and do not understand basic concepts from 300 level fin courses he will be visibly disturbed, and rightfully so. Oldschool. Go to class, loads of extra credit. If you're lazy, take something else.
He's great. Gives a ton of extra credit by asking questions and giving points towards the exams if you answer correctly. Makes class enjoyable by being a genuinely nice and funny person. Grades fairly and gives everything you need to make a 100 on the exams if you study it. I wouldn't take this course with anyone else.
I loved Professor Farinella's class, he gave ample examples and notes for the class to understand the topics while being fair on the coursework. The only issue is that most extra credit is given through in-class questions, which can be hard if you are shy like me. Overall the lessons were great and the examples were fun, would take the class again!
When signing up for this class, I thought I was getting a professor who was very understanding and helpful. Its not the case. His lecture videos are informative, if you have a question, it is impossible to reach him outside of class. I think he's best case scenario for FIN 335 class, but he definitely needs to try harder to be more approachable.
Dr Farinella is very easygoing, sometimes maybe a little too easygoing, but there's worse problems to have. Expect to get out early half the time, side tracks during lectures, etc. His quizzes can occasionally be EXCRUCIATINGLY difficult though, seemingly by mistake. Overall he is friendly and well versed in his field. He also gives good advice.
Farinella is a good professor and person all around but this course wasn't the best. You definitely need to know and understand early finance functions because his reviews for the exams are short and not helpful.
Was a pretty easy class considering it is finance. Offers a lot of extra help online. Exams are not too hard. Does a lot of practice problems.
The best finance class to take!! Super easy exams (20 questions) and attendance isn't mandatory!! Would definitely take again!
Study and do the practice quizzes to do well on the tests. Quizzes can be hard and at times he is hard to reach outside of class and at times it is hard to follow lectures but somehow it seems to work well. Solid choice for fin 335.
Professor Farinella was super kind, considerate, and helpful. He was very helpful in and out of the class. He gave lots of extra credit for answering questions in class. He tells amazing stories. And if you go to class you will pass finance with a good grade and maybe even learn something. He's super wise and personable.
Chill guy- only filing this out for extra credit
Always wanted to see me succeed in the class and was very helpful
Dr. Farinella is an amazing professor and clearly knows a lot about finance with a lot of experience. I definitely recommend taking a course by him at some point. FIN 430 was a difficult class however, and required a lot of work. I think his expectations for students are a little too high with difficult assignments and exams. Overall great guy.
Awesome teacher with lots of extra credit
Professor Farinella makes FIN335 pretty manageable. Decent difficulty, with helpful lectures and lots of extra credit opportunities. I found Unstuck AI and the practice quizzes to be great study tools alongside the textbook. Overall, a solid choice for your finance requirements.
Great professor, been doing it a long time
Good professor that cares about students. A lot of the lecture is based on real world events.
Good class and will learn.
Very cool professor
Lots of talk about current events and state of the market. Group projects not too much work. Will boost your knowledge of finance and overall stock market. Fun stock trading simulation that goes through the entirety of the course.
Dr. Jo cares about the class some times goes on rants but is nice and cares about the students doing well. the class is not very difficult if you put in the work. would take again
10/10!! Gives extra credit opportunities.. Explains the material effectively and concisely.. The additional resources (zoom archive videos and the documents on Canvas) are helpful and I'd highly recommend them. If you study what he tells you to study, you will do well on the exams. There are no surprises in this class. He is responsive via email.
I enjoyed FIN 430 with Professor Farinella! He gives out lots of extra credit in class. Participation assignments weekly are an easy part of his class. There are two group projects that are somewhat difficult but if you have a decent group, they are no problem!
Very reasonable professor, normally doesn't get distracted from subject matter. 2 Exams, 2 case studies and one presentation. Very easy grader if you follow instructions. Much less coursework than average and a pretty entertaining professor. Would definitely take again. 9/10.
He is awesome, very fun and engaging lectures. Projects are easy if you go to class and takes notes. Attendance is not taken but there was a weekly participation assignment where you could submit class notes or summary of online lectures which were also available. One of my favorite professors!
This class was awesome! Attendance is not mandatory, but showing up allows for easy completing of weekly participation and chances for extra credit.
Farinella is a good professor who knows a lot about what he teaches. Sometimes he was hard to understand and mumbled a bit while teaching making it hard to hear/understand what he is saying. He does also write fairly quickly and his handwriting can be hard to read, however he is always willing to answer questions and give clarity when needed
He does not teach from a book, and when he teaches he expects you to already understand all concepts when it comes to investing.
Great class. Attendance isn't mandatory but the only way to get a participation grade is to go so you might as well. Gives a lot of extra credit. 2 test and 2 case studies. Would take again!
This guy is awesome, just come to class. Literally the only reason I have a bad grade is that I didn't come to class. Do the homework, quizzes, I will saw tests are hard but he gives out so much extra credit you should pass.
very good, sometimes goes over a lot very fast.
Phenomenal would take again!
Very professional, attendance was not required and he uploads his lectures on canvas. Gives plenty of study material and helps with examples in class.
Come to class, do the practice quizzes because they help a TON on the exams. Goes very fast in class so look at the slides before class so you don't get lost
Great professor who gives a good amount of extra credit and explains clearly if asked questions. Attendance isn't mandatory but has an extra credit sheet. May ramble when into topic but if you ask questions he can explain better.
His test are pretty easy, but be ready to be confused in class. He goes very fast paced and hard to understand his handwriting. Overall he's okay, just get your homework done and you'll be fine.
Moves through the material somewhat fast but goes back over items if needed. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Funny.
He was a great professor and I would take him again! He gave a lot of extra credits and was very helpful.
dude is solid. He is a good teacher, he can break down complex topics by relating it to things earlier said in the course. gives extra credit like candy. Passionate about what he teaches. Very efficient, with what he says and writes. relates it to real world events. I don't wanna glaze but I think one of the best teachers in the school of business.
Best teacher I have had at uncw his lecture is interesting and he's fun. Makes what he is teaching clear and builds on it
Great professor. If you show up and do the homework they tests should be very easy because they are basically the same as homework. Always looking to help the students understand material.
Professor Farinella is a great professor who gives clear expectations of material and exams. Gives practice quizzes for exams and a lot of extra credit points for exams. There was an average amount of homework, and he is funny in class. Highly recommend taking him for FIN 335.
Just go to class and you'll get extra credit; he basically hands it out for free. 50% of the questions on exams are in the practice problems, so memorize them and you'll automatically have at least a 50. Almost all work can be done on the financial calculator you buy before class. Just show up and you'll do okay.
He was fine, but class was very all over the place. There are two cases that are time consuming but easy to get a good grade if you follow the rubric. He goes over the exact math questions for the exams so its not hard to do good. He has terrible handwriting and it was hard to read the whiteboard.
Course mainly consists of 3 group projects and 2 exams. Very few homework assignments and they are grading on completion, not accuracy. Offers a lot of help if you go to his class.
Cares about students and will break down all assignments
Cares about students and wants us to succeed
Dr. Farinella is a great teacher that really cares for his students. Attendance isnt mandatory but you should go to class because he explains the material well.
Very fair with the grading and gave every student an opportunity to succeed
Great professor if you have the chance to take him do it. Gives a lot of extra credit and a very funny teacher.
Gives a lot of bonus points but watch the modules because the tests are hard.
Joe Fairnella was a great professor. He was very knowledgeable and made finance easy to understand, even for someone like me with no background in it. He used real-life examples and made sure everyone was on the same page. His Canvas quizzes closely matched the exams, and he offered plenty of extra credit to help boost grades.
Professor Farinella is very kind and easy to work with no matter what your situation may be
Grades on a curve, plenty of extra credit opportunities. He gives a pass on the final if you can average above a 100 on the class through the first 2 exams. Very straightforward tests, he makes the material easy to understand.
Professor Farinella is a great instructor for FIN 335. He does not make the class harder than it needs to be. He likes to reward the students who come to class by giving extra credit points for participation.
The guy is hilarious, and very good at in person lectures. Was never boring or draining, and he always was good at explaining how things worked so you'd be able to catch up if you got a little behind. He moves pretty fast though, so you'll need to be ready to pay attention at all times.
Very kind professor. Gives extra credit a decent amount. Tough class but makes it bearable.
Very cool, very chill. You learn a lot
Good professor, lecture heavy, and no homework. Show up to class, take notes, and you should be good for the exams and case studies.
He's a good guy and knows a lot about the subject but make sure to have a really good understanding of the fundamentals of finance and maybe some knowledge on investments. Funny teacher and gives a lot of extra credit.
Joe is awesome, his class is easy and engaging. The tests are easy if you somewhat study and you should finish with an easy A, there's a lot of opportunities for extra credit.
lots of extra credit opportunities if you show up for class.
This professor is very caring and genuinely wants his students to do well, but the course itself is what weighs down my experience. If you're not a finance bro this class will be crazy difficult, but he gives a lot of extra credit opportunities.
He is a really chill, fun, and smart professor. Super glad to have taken this course.
He is great! I've taken him for two of my finance classes and he has a way of connecting with his students and teaching things in a "real world" way! A few projects but they are straightforward and basically walks you through half of it in class so there's not much to do at home. Tests are basically the same as the practice tests!
