great professor! makes a boring class much better. explains the readings so you understand them. tests based off class notes and vocab terms discussed in class. easy to do well and keeps you on your toes with random comments during class. funny guy definitely take his class.
Awesome prof!!!!!! He brings a modern twist to what is incomprehensible and antique. He uses all different kinds of examples to help you understand. He's funny!!! That made the hour and 15 mins go by pretty swiftly. Awesome awesome guy...TAKE HIM!!!!! Tests aren't hard but don't take them for granted. You need to study and its rewarding if you do.
Very funny, does a good job making philosophy interesting. Not much work.
A very nice guy, super funny, big ravens fan. No homework, a few tests.
He is such a nice guy! The class was kind of boring and it took a really long time to get through the topics so we were really behind on the syllabus, but he puts all the notes on the board and gives really good examples. He's funny, smart, and wants you to do well. Basically no homework and his tests are more than fair.
Dr. Farrell is a very kind man and enthusiastic professor. I have no interest in philosophy but his class was bearable. You need to go to class because the tests/papers are all based off the notes. I wish he put more grades online, but still overall a good professor
Farrell is the best. He puts all the notes you need for essays on the board. 2 essay tests and a final take home essay, very bearable. If you go to class and take all the notes on the board you will get an A. The final essay has to do with previous essays. Class is kind of boring but he tries to put some life into it.
Great professor. Very enthusiastic even though the material can be dry (especially at 8AM). Writes all notes on the board so you kind of have to come to class. Take home essays are bearable and he is understanding about grading and helping you as a student. (101 was only 3 in-class tests, 201 was only 3 take-home essays - only hw ever was to read)
SUCH a kind and enthusiastic professor. Need to attend class to get the notes that he writes on the board, but they are super helpful. The material itself can be dry (is dry), but through many tangents and interesting examples he really makes things interesting and brings life to class. A worthwhile and funny professor.
Awesome teacher and really cool guy! If you work out a question in class, if he likes your response, he gives you a fist bump. What other professor does that? Really helpful and he does a great job explaining complex ideas. Papers aren't that difficult if you take down all the notes from the board. Take his class!
Awesome guy. Great lectures, he tells stories to get his point across. He will fist bump you if you participate in class. The more you participate the better the discussion.
Honestly one of the nicest guys. He can make philosophy relatable and the works of the philosophers relevant in your lives. He is funny, easy going, and straight forward about what he expects. There are only three grades though for the whole semester, but he is helpful in guiding you. You need to take Professor Farrell if you have the chance.
Honestly best ever. Took him for PL 101 and changed my whole schedule so i could take him again. all tests are take home, super easy; directly from the notes. he makes philosophy interesting, which is a tough thing to do. great guy
Hilarious, very easy, two papers, a final, just have to read required readings and listen in class
Awesome teacher that gives his students enough information to create their own opinions, but does not force you into believing anything. Interesting class made even better by the professor.
Farrell was a great professor. His lectures are interesting and he lets you take notes on your computer during class. Only a few essays and take-home final and midterm. I would take him again.
Took Farrell for my Ethics core and didn't regret it. Lectures are interesting and closely related to real life. Nice guy, always available to help. midterm paper, 3 case studies, and a final. All take home papers, a lot of opinion based. If you have a grasp on the material, you'll do well.
BEST TEACHER IVE HAD AT LOYOLA. Lectures were extremely interesting and I found myself rarely looking at the clock (which I didn't think was possible in a philosophy class). Taking him again for upper level PL and Ethics. Must take!!!
I fulfilled my Ethics core with Farrell's class. Lectures were occasionally boring, but Farrell tries to liven class up with interesting cases, jokes, & videos. I would definitely recommend taking him. He's also super helpful!! I talked to him a lot about case presentations which really helped my grade.
Goes off topic a lot, but very passionate of his work
He is a genuinely nice guy. he may go off topic as others have said but he deeply cares and is always there to help. In my class we only had 3 main papers all of which I received A-'s on with moderate effort. the questions are very factual. most of what you need to know is gone over in class and on the board.
Farrell is awesome. I think he gets that almost everyone that takes the class does so because it is mandatory so he doesn't expect much of his students. I barely opened any of the textbooks once and maintained an A easily. Discussions can be boring but they are relaxing and insightful. He is always extremely positive and a well-liked teacher.
If you go to class and copy the notes from the board you get a guaranteed B. He is the man. He is funny and he is very helpful outside of class.
He is the best teacher! His tests are take home and he gives you a week to do them. In order to do well on them, show up to class, listen, and take down the notes on the board and the class is an easy A. He is very accessible and will give you extensions on tests if you need them. Take him!! You won't regret it!
Literally SWEETEST. MAN. ALIVE! I truly cannot say enough good things about prof Farrell. There are 3 "tests" (take home papers) and I went to his office hours for all 3. I did well in the class because with my combined notes and his help in office hours, the papers basically write themselves. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE, Whether you are passionate about philosophy or not he's an amazing teacher and you will enjoy his class.
Best teacher ever. :) 10/10 would recommend Cares so much about students
Farrell is a bro. He makes philosophy interesting and nothing beats a nice farrell podium lecture, interesting accents, and corny but hilarious jokes.
Such a great professor who cares about every student. Only three exams throughout the entire class which are take home, and easy to complete as long as you take notes in class. No midterm or final. Lectures every class, but very entertaining and easy to follow. Great professor, would highly recommend.
Amazing professor. If you take notes and get the main points into the essays, you'll do great.
Farrell is an amazing professor, and such a great guy. He cares about every one of his students and gives great feedback on the exams. As long as you take good notes and visit his office hours, you will do great. I really loved his class. Take him!
Professor Farrel really cares about all of his students and makes the class so enjoyable. As long as you take down the notes he has on his board and go to his office hours occasionally, you will pass with flying colors.
10/10 would take again. He is an awesome professor and makes class really enjoyable. Case studies take some time to write but overall they are interesting and thought provoking. 3 case study papers, a midterm paper and a final paper. Going to class helps with all the them because he writes everything on the board that you need for the papers.
Prof. Farrell is awesome! He understands PL-201 is a required course for all students so he really tries to present the information in a way that truly anyone can understand. He goes over all important points from the reading during lecture which will leave you well prepared for the exams.
Great teacher, if you pay attention to what he writes down, you'll probably get a B. If you listen to what he says, which is easy cause he is very entertaining and truly cares about what he's teaching, then you'll get an A. Great teacher and I'm truly happy I took his course despite no previous interest in Philosophy.
Excellent professor, very engaged and has great energy. Encourages participation and discussion, but doesnt require it.
3 take home tests that require you to put in time but those are the only things graded
Professor Farrell was one of my favorites, if not my favorite, professor at Loyola. He knows what he's talking about and makes philosophy understandable. Super funny and his lectures are never boring. I never found myself dreading going to class. Three papers that he will help you with. Write down what's on the board and you have the answers!
Unlike all the other PL 201 sections, Dr. Farrell doesn't give the class difficult readings, and will even read in class to make everyone understands the material. He tries as hard as he can to make Plato and Aristotle seem interesting, and does a pretty good job.
Best teacher ever!! Funny and brilliant! If you can definitely take him!
Very flexible with paper deadlines. Summarizes key points needed for papers during class. Great guy, definitely enjoyed his class.
Professor Farrell was an excellent professor. Really knows what he's teaching and uses real-world examples to help you understand better. Class is lecture heavy and make sure to take notes because the essays are all about what you've learned in class. He's super funny and very enthusiastic about what he does. Definitely would take again.
Great teacher! Wonderful time!
Professor Farrell is hilarious. Best teacher for this course. Really relates to his students, a kid at heart, and if you answer in class he gives you a knuckle touch.
Prof. Farrell gives insightful lectures that are easy to understand and engaging. The course grade is based on three exams, all take home essays. As long as you attend each class, listen, and copy down what is written on the board you'll be able to get an A. Highly recommend, especially if philosophy isn't your thing, by far the best.
Classes are just lectures. Everything he talks about and writes on the board is used for your exams, which are just take home papers. Such an easy class and he is an amazing dude.
Joe Farrell is outstanding. His lectures are very insightful and he is the most passionate professor at Loyola. He truly cares about his students and wants them to succeed. The course is 3 take home exams which are just essays but be sure to take notes and pay attention. Guy is great
Great teacher. Cares about the students and is enthusiastic about the material. The only grades are 3 papers but they are extremely easy and he is a very fair grader.
Farrell tells the most fun and hilarious stories. He has a fun personality and teaches ethics in a way that is easy for everyone to learn. He uses analogies and stories of his own life (or made up) that relates to the topics he's teaching for that class (Kant, Aristotle, etc). Plus he's a very easy guy to talk to. Oh yeah, he loves Blade Runner.
His lectures are mostly him ranting for about 20 min. If you're not a good note taker or can follow complicated exploration's I wouldn't recommend. Not very clear at all, even when asked to explain a subject further. He makes his case assignments seem opinion based but if you don't put what he's looking for you won't get a good grade.
Farrells probably my favorite professor so far at loyola. He makes philosophy actually pretty interesting. The class is pretty easy, there are only 3 essays. You can't go wrong with taking this man.
Cool guy, 10/10. Funny but intelligent and makes every topic interesting. Got an A on case studies so didn't have to take the optional final but I still came to class just to hear him lecture. Highly recommend.
Dr. Farrell is one of the most genuinely nice and caring professors that Loyola has. He makes philosophy both easy to understand and interesting! He is very clear about what information is important during his lectures, which makes writing papers very doable. Overall, great guy and would definitely recommend!
Takes philosophy and connects it to current events that help to understand material better. Dr. Farrell asked questions that made you think and reflect on values and certain situations. One of the best professors at Loyola.
Easily top 3 profs taken in 4 years. Material seems tough, Farrell explains it so well & makes class beyond fun. Course content is interesting. Lenient w/ attendance but you'll miss necessary info. All case studies/exams are take-home, gives great feedback, you'll get an A as long as you can defend your answers. 10/10 great guy and a great class.
funny guy who knows his stuff. grade was determined by only three essays but they were all easy and he's super easy to access for questions so don't be nervous and he's awesome.
I highly recommend Dr. Farrell to anyone who is considering taking him! He makes him so accessible to students for help and is one of the only professors I have taken that keeps the whole class engaged. I have taken him twice and would have taken more classes if I had the opportunity!
Dr. Farrell is the man! He is straightforward with what he expects from you. Very passionate about his job and that makes it more enjoyable. Definitely take him if you enjoy classic rock music because he starts the day listening to some! Just a midterm and final paper plus a few case studies.
Dr. Farrell is easily one of the most thought provoking professors on the Evergreen campus. Attend lectures and take solid notes. That prepares you for the papers you right.
Super nice guy! Really cares about his students and wants to make sure they do well. Theres lots of lectures in class but if you take notes on what he writes on the board youll do well on the tests. You dont really need to read the books to do well as long as you pay attention on class.
Professor Farrell is one of the most caring professors I have had. He works hard to make sure you understand the material and will be lenient about due dates and late homework if you are struggling. His class is entertaining and he finds ways to make the confusing topics a lot easier by relating them to modern events. Attendance is important.
Great professor. Even better guy. No complaints. Would take again.
He is a 5/5 professor! It was a great class and wasnt stressful to keep track of assignments!
Dr. Farrell is such a genuine guy. You can tell he cares so much about your success. All he wants is for you to do well.
Dr. Farrell is an amazing professor and really cares about the topic of philosophy and makes sure everyone understands everything clearly. Really funny and would definitely take again!
Professor Farrell is a great and caring teacher. He keeps you involved and engaged in class. He has a great sense of humor and a very outgoing person. He reads most of the material with you and is a generous grader. Professor Farrell is a great professor and a great person.
He's just a good guy.
I really loved Prof. Farrell! He is a really funny guy and sometimes would tell us stories that made the class more interesting especially being an online setting. The grade consists of 5 small papers (1-2 pages) and 3 exams (essays). Hes a really fair grader and is very quick to respond to questions. I would take him again!
Professor Farrell is an overall amazing professor. PL 201 consisted of 5 short responses to articles he provides (1-2 pages), 2 written exams, and 1 final exam. All assignments/exams were written, and he is a concise grader. He kept it entertaining despite being online. He listens to his students' needs/wants so I highly recommend taking him!
I hardly understood any of the books but he interprets them well. He helps with any questions, the only thing is that he goes on tangents a lot but i dont really mind. You can tell he really enjoys his job. He basically says all the answers to the exam, you just have to put in essay format or even bullet points. not a formal guy at all very chill
I loved having Dr. Farrell. The books we had to read were definitely challenging, but his lectures helped me to understand everything. The workload was not heavy at all, and he genuinely cares about his students. He is the best professor when it comes to philosophy, and I do not think I would have done this well with a different professor.
Professor Farrell is one of the best professors I have ever had at Loyola. I did not think I would enjoy philosophy, but he made it interesting, easy, and exciting to go to class. If you just take notes, you will pass the 3 major papers that makeup the majority of your grade. Please take him for philosophy.
He is an amazing professor and he was the best teacher I had in Loyola. The books could be hard to understand but he gives good notes and after explains about them. You will understand it once you listen to him, it will make much more sense The "test" are basically essays and aren't hard at all! He gives very good feedback! Would take class again!
Dr. Farrell is hilarious and such a great guy. He is really understanding with his students, and his teaching style is very effective. The material is tough to read on your own, but with the help of his lectures, notes, office hours, etc. you will have no problems succeeding in his class. The workload is also manageable/appropriate.
Definitely recommend taking this guy! He is so helpful in making sure the class understands the material and is always offering extensions and extra help before exams! He is so funny too and the class is a good time! Highly recommend this class!
Dr. Farrell is an amazing prof. He's hilarious and cares for his students. He makes philosophy bearable. There are only 3 written exams, and you can easily pass them with his help. He is willing to help you if you ask!! The only other assignments you have are 5 small written assignments you can do whenever you want, and that's it for his class.
I loved Dr. Farrell he is always there to help and he is very easy to talk to. This is a great class to take if you prefer writing over tests and quizzes. There's 5 writing assignments that you can choose the topic throughout the semester and 3 exams, it is very manageable.
Grades based on a few papers. Relatively easy grader. Funny and interesting lectures.
He gives you the option to pick 5 of 15 total weekly topics to write about along with a midterm and final paper. He was very chill, and his lectures were thorough enough to understand the reading while also being entertaining the whole time.
He is the best professor I have had so far. He is SO funny and seriously cares about his students and wants them to succeed. The class is extremely fair and not hard. There is not a lot of homework either. Absolutely 100% take this class with him, you won't regret it.
Professor Farrell is a genuinely nice guy, he really cares about his students and is willing to meet with you if you feel that you need help. We had 3 papers and a midterm and Professor Farrell ensured that we had the information needed to complete the assignments. Overall great class and amazing professor, would definitely take again!
Dr. Farrell is one of the most joyful professors I have ever taken. His class was a breath of fresh air in an otherwise dreary schedule. He is fun, does not take himself too seriously, and is very personable and friendly. He knows his stuff on philosophy and teaches you, but still manages to make class entertaining even as we learn about philosophy
Each class was 75 minutes twice a week. Each lecture, 20-25% of the time was used to discuss whatever he heard on MSNBC the night before. When he stayed on topic, he was able to make lectures interesting and sometimes funny. Otherwise, its a good thing laptops are allowed.
Professor Farrell has become one of my favorite professors at Loyola. Cares a lot about his students and is very down to earth. 3 papers total based on interesting cases. If I could take him again I would. He is very clear in what he wants from those three papers and is always there to answer questions. Amazing professor.
Loved Professor Farrell, the class is very straight forward. If you attend and listen it will be an easy A. There was a quick focused writing assignment due every sunday but you only had to complete a small amount total for the semester. One paper, the midterm, and the final. He posts notes that help answer all the questions. I recommend!!!
Great professor! Very manageable assignments. If you put in the work, you will do great!
Farrell is an awesome professor with such an enthusiasm for the course material. I had him for Bioethics which I took for a core requirement and didn't know how interested I'd be in the course material, but he goes to extra mile to keep lectures interesting and kept class engaging. If you need an ethics class or are just interested, take Farrell.
Dr. Farrell is a great professor! The first half of the semester did tend to get slightly boring just because we had to learn about different philosophers' views, but the second half of the semester was very interesting. The material was related to relevant things in the news. There was a midterm paper, three case studies, and an optional final.
LOVED Dr. Farrell. He laid a great foundation in the first half of the semester to best prepare us for the nitty-gritty of the true bioethics portion of the class. We learned about and analyze real-life cases which granted me an excellent understanding of how many different kinds of situations in which bioethics can be applied.
Attendance is required but you don't have to pay attention. Very little notes are given in the class and the important texts have in depth notes on moodle. However if you pay attention the discussions are thought provoking and Dr. Farell is interesting in hearing everybody's opinion. Would have liked if Covid didn't kill all motivation for school.
Dr. Farrell was absolutely awesome. You can tell he tried to get to know all of his students and cares about them. My class was not really willing to participate in discussion, so the class could be a drag when everyone was clearly not paying attention. Farrell is a great guy, he cares about your opinion, and is very accommodating.
-really nice professor -gives out fist bumps for particpation -wish we had some small group time to talk with peers since it was lecture heavy -start of semester is very aristotle, kant, and mill -wish we had more time before our (3) case study papers were due, because we would talk about them on thursday and they would be due friday at 5.
He lectures a lot on class, so it's easy to get distracted. But you have to take notes in order to write the papers required for the course. I didn't always keep up on the readings assigned, but I still did well in the class. He' s very funny and appreciates class participations. The more you participate, the easier the class will be.
The work is very easy to understand, and the professor is very understanding as well. He would want to go to his class because his energy is just so great.
Dr. Farrell is a great, engaged professor who shows a genuine interest for bioethics. Though the first half of the semester was slightly heavy on lecture, the second half of the class was extremely interesting and I looked forward to in-class discussions. The grading margins were narrow as there was only 75 points to be earned throughout the sem.
Amazing Professor, very lecture heavy but if you do the readings and participate you'll be fine. He cares about and actively tries to learn more about his students.
Dr. Farrell is an awesome professor that cares for his students. Super easy to access outside of class and a fairly easy grader.
He is amazing. Take him.
Dr. Farrell is a great professor. As long as you show up to class, listen, and do some of the readings, this class should be an easy A. 5 short responses to current issues and 3 essays based on readings.
Farrell is a great professor. He cares for you outside of class. For me personally, it was hard to follow lectures as he does a lot of talking and reflecting on materials. There are no slides. You have to show up to class, listen, and participate. There are three essays and five current media analysis.
I love Prof Farrell. He is super nice and cares about everyone in the class. The class teaches a lot, and the exams are fairly easy. However, if you can only learn from powerpoints, you won't find that here. He just talks in his lectures and will occasionally write on the board. There are notes online, but they can be a lot and hard to follow.
He is a great professor, definitely would take his class again. If you finish your essays with enough time before the due date, he is more than welcome to give some feedback in order for you to get a good grade.
Farrell was a great teacher to have for PL*201, funny guy who helps explain everything through readings and uses the time in class well to try not to bore everyone. Definitely a decent amount of reading but can definitely get away with paying attention and taking notes during the lecture. Tests are online but are a bit long, definitely reccommend
Dr. Farrell was awesome to take, the class was graded off of three papers and a midterm (optional final). He makes it clear he cares about his students and will always go out of his way to help, especially with deadlines. 100% recommend to take him if you can!!
Effective lectures with anecdotes to apply philosophical topics to the real world and lenient due dates because he wants your best work. Interacting with students is where Dr. Farrell's strengths shine the most. He demonstrates a strong grasp of the material and seems genuinely eager to help students understand philosophy, and he's really funny!
The professor recommends a lot of reading per week and gives out a total of three exams. He breaks down the reading well and gives notes on the reading throughout the course. This helps the course. He is understandable and fairly grades assignments.
THIS GUY! Funniest man I ever met, lectures are super engaging. He always manages to make class interesting. Always willing to listen to feedback and answer questions. I NEVER read any of the texts and still did great. 3 papers including the final and he goes over the answers the class before they're due. It is difficult to not get an A.
Really cool guy. Took his class freshman year. Would recommend to anyone. Really funny and makes class enjoyable. Not hard and did well on midterms. Studied very little.
Wonderful Professor, his class is always interesting. He mostly lectures, and then we have a couple of writing opportunities to get our grades up and a midterm. Easy A! Definitely Recommend
Dr. Farrell is a dawg. He loves what he does and made philosophy enjoyable.
He is great.
He is a great professor and very communicative! Highly recommend taking him for bioethics!
Does not require a textbook, but uses multiple books for the semester. Come to class having read the assigned chapters (he does not reiterate, it is expected that you plan out your weekly readings). Overall, exams were taken straight from class notes and lectures.
Everything you need to know will be on Moodle and said during lecture. The class is based on your ability to compound ideas.
Dr. Farrell was very good with getting his part across and painting the pictures of the books that we read clearly. Sometimes its a little confusing but he answers all questions clearly.
He's the best professor, super chill and understanding. Two exams that are open notes. Final exam open notes. His exams are very straightforward and is actually what we learn and the notes.
Great professor if you don't like philosophy. Brings real world examples to the classroom. Open to suggestions
Prof. Farrell is hilarious. His class is engaging and fun and well worth the work and reading. He is understanding and respectful of his students and is passionate about the subject. I loved the class and his teaching.
He makes you like going to class. He is an incredible teacher. He makes you understand everything. Tests are open note. Would love to take him again.
Amazing prof, probably the best teacher I've had at Loyola so far. Really makes you enjoy Philosophy and is extremely caring and wants his students to succeed. Take him!!!
The best professor I have had at Loyola so far. So nice and caring and wants his students to pass his class and do well. Is very thorough with the material and is very flexible with office hours. Helps if you if you need to understand the material.
He is the man. Awesome teacher who always keeps the lectures interesting and cares about his students. He also has a really great sense of humor. Overall top 3 favorite teachers of all time for me.
Professor Farrell is an amazing professor. Even though the class is reading-heavy, he does a great job reviewing the information. He grades nicely and wants everyone to succeed. He is kind and a great professor to talk to outside of class. I would recommend him to anyone.
Open note exams, while also putting any information relevant in simple terms on a whiteboard. Essentially, you never have to read the books and can get an A without trying. Also amazing and caring guy.
I took Dr. Farrell for two different classes, and I really enjoyed both of them. His classes are really chill and funny. If you show up and participate, you will get good grades. Highly recommended for philosophy reqs.
I took Dr. Farrell for bioethics and I greatly enjoyed his lectures. Be sure to participate in class to try to get a better understanding of the case studies to complete on your own. Dr. Farrell offers a lot of office hours if you need any additional assistance outside of the classroom. I would take another class with Dr. Farrell.
He is a great professor. I am not a philosophy major but I had him my freshman year and loved the class, so took him again for my second pl requirement. He gave us 4 or 5 cases that we had to analyze using the philosophers we learned about in class- amazing application of ethics to the real world. I actually learned something from this course!
I took Dr. Farrell freshman year as a core requirement course. He does not believe in lectures so make sure you are paying attention in class as that is what all the exams are on. He also will go off-topic for the majority of the class. Farrell also imputs his personal beliefs in a lot of the discussions. He grades his exams very toughly.
Funny professor, just no structure in the course. Class is fun but a few tests determine your grade. If you do well with unstructured classes and lecture heavy class, you'll do fine.
Amazing Professor. Honestly very first teacher that I've seen that cares about his students. Communication always. He is always brightening everyone day even if his is not going amazing. He cares and never judges in feedback, he tried to understand everyone and see why we came with that conclusion. Overall amazing professor.
Make sure you take notes, otherwise it makes no sense
Dr. Farrell is super easy to connect with and creates a very engaging class. Be sure to copy down everything he writes on the board either in a notebook or in the margins of the relevant text as these are the main foundations you will use to answer the essay questions on his exams. If you do these things, it's an easy A.
Professor Farrell is hilarious and you can tell that he really knows what he is talking about. His bioethics class is super interesting and I would highly recommend taking. There are no exams, just 5 papers split up very well throughout the semester and they are super easy to write if you pay attention and take notes in lectures.
I've had a great time in Dr. Farrell's class. He is overall a very funny guy and very accessible. He gets quite off topic but I feel like it adds to the charm of the class. The assignments are very straight forward and I appreciate that he doesn't do tests. I can understand why many people are dying to get a seat in this class.
Prof Farrell is the funniest professor I've ever had. I've never had a boring class with him. I've never read anything he provided (sorry Farrell) but aced the class because I came to class and paid attention. I would take a class with him every semester if I could, highly recommend!
prof. farrell is a great guy, he's super funny and respectful! just know that he will yap for a majority of the class and then your section is "behind" his schedule and you might feel that some classes were wasted. bioethics is graded solely on 5 big papers and attendance, so be wary of that. otherwise, he explains content well and is very nice!!
Prof Farrell's PL201 class is a gem. His engaging lectures and genuine care for students' success make the reading-heavy course rewarding. unstuck study was a lifesaver for study prep.
For a class that has the reputation of being boring and uninteresting, he makes the class enjoyable by talking to his students rather than only teaching. Amazing guy with an amazing personality. He understands the lives of students and is super understanding when it comes to assignments, grading, and other things going on outside of class.
Fun and lively man who gives practical advice and guidance about real life situation
Free A if you show up and pay attention for at least half the class. Attendance was mandatory. Lot's of off-topic conversation but the dude is passionate about the subject matter so you'll take something away from the lectures to include in five papers which are the only graded assignments. No final exam. Didn't buy the book and did just fine.
You wouldn't think going to an ethics class would be something to enjoy, Dr Farrell somehow does!
Fun class. However not graded on too many things can make grades difficult. Altogether great classroom experience.
Dr. Farrell is one of the best teachers I've ever had. Cares about his students, lectures are awesome/hilarous, and the workload was light.
I LOVE this professor. 100000/10. He does a lot of lecturing but makes it so interesting and engaging. His rating is high and should be higher. Trust me, you will not be disappointed. I will for sure take another class with him.
I really like him—he's funny and connects the material to real-world events. He explains tough readings in depth and lets you ask questions before exams. Great person and teacher; I just didn't enjoy the material itself.
Dr. Farrell is great, long readings but homework is super easy, reading notes weekly and then focused writing assignments you only have to do 5 for the semester, then 3 tests. Tests require detail but if you actually study and do the readings you'll be fine.
A great professor who pretty much gives out 5 papers. Attendance is also included in the grade. Overall, Professor Farrell provides all the information you need for the papers which makes the assignments smoother.
Dr. Farrell cares a lot about all of his students. He always adds humor into all of his class lectures and notes. He cares about what everyone has to say and is willing to have meaningful discussions with the class about topics that matter to them. He has notes due once a week from a reading as a guide for the class lecture.
Dr.Farrell is the best!!!! Would 100% recommended I want to take more classes with him in the future. If you pay attention in class and participate you'll get a A in the class.
He is amazing. The papers you will write do have to be detailed (mine came out to about 10 pages each). But they're not hard to write, and he pretty much gives you an outline of the paper in class. Just be sure to include the key terms he wants. His lectures are engaging and entertaining too
Loved him, very funny and sweet. If you get the chance to take him DO IT!
He's a really nice guy and does try to make the class entertaining, in lieu of the subject matter. The readings are difficult, but he will help you understand them. He is super helpful during office hours and as long as you try in class, you should be fine. Though sometimes he does talk too much and gets a little sidetracked from the main point.
