Class is fun, he is a great guy
don't let the essay exam scare you. When I was taking his art 1a class, I was also taking ESL. He made the boring subject (art history) kind of fun.
Good professor but the lectures got boring at times. He could have been nicer to the class but not a bad class to be in.
Very cool class. Kinda wasn't in to it at first, but his style is contagious. If I could use to words to discribe him... NILES CRANE (you know, from Frasier ?)
relatively easy ge class. this is my favorite ge class, even if you're not into art you'll find the lecture interesting. i didnt even read my textbook for the exams but i got As on all of them. a very funny guy too...
I like his sarcastic humor... nice guy...
Veryyyyyy nice teacher! Talk to him if you get trobles, he must can help you a lot. He is the my first teacher in the U.S, i like him very much! If you read the book and understand the lectures, B or above! Trust me,you will never regret taking the class!
lies all lies, don't listen to any of the comments below. Probably written by himself. He is one of the hardest teachers i ever had in my life. Must memorize 500 slide pictures for the test and only gives you 3 on the test, what kind of **** is that?
Really cool teacher! He was very clear in his explanations. Don't listen to anyone who says otherwise, they're probably just upset because they didn't even study and surprisingly they got bad grades...gee I wonder why!
goor source~~~~
he is nice ...but exam is hard ...
Yeah, Fraser crane... Just work hard and you WILL be okay; a decent guy and I guess I am biased, but I learned a LOT and I thought I would hate art history
the worst teacher in my 3 years in pcc. he expects u to analyze paintings as if u were an artist. very mean. he has many issues. I recommend that u don't take the class , it was the only C in my history in pcc ( am a 3.8 student)
Definately passionate about his job and spends a lot of time expressing, very informative. I wouldn't call him the easiest - got a C from him, but that was my first time in school in 10 years. Anyone who's into art should definately take him.
THE BEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD, VERY CLEAR, VERY FUN, VERY CHALENGING, AND VERY VERY INTELLIGENT
he is very nice person....no....cool professor~~~
really really cool guy. he's really enthusiastic, and if you can write, his test are pretty easy. just write down everything he says and repeat it back to him on the exam.
some people don't like his class only because they can't get good grades. and people don't get good grades either because they don't study or they can't write. great lecture. i wouldn't miss his class even if there was an earthquake.
I was very pleased with the way Mr. Futtner teaches. He definately makes the material understandable and fun even for someone who's far from Art. Its a MUST for a serious art major. One does NOT have to be an artist to meet his testing expectations!
He is nice but very hard!!!! I don't think I will get an A at the end of this semester.
Awesome professor, great lectures. I am not an art student, but found the course fun and engaging. It's easy to get a good grade if you listen in lectures and study. He's very fair and helpful. I am looking forward to taking more classes with him.
Great Professor. Definitly a hard working man. He looked a lot younger just semesters ago.
He actualy makes art history fun and does great impressions, i enjoy his added little tidbits about the artists lives and some of there quirkes hes very clear and gives you a list of possible things on the test. just pay attention and you'll pass
teachers cool, describes the subject with great enthusiasm and is intriguing. but his tests way too anal!!.. i mean very specific and you have to know everything from the past chapters. his tests are hard!! and his grading is based on 3 tests and a paper.
his class seemed hard at first bcoz the exams were a bit hard but later on u find this class not that difficult... he's very enthusiatic as well as informative ... jus know wut kinds of styles he's looking for.. u gotta think like him to get a good grade
He seems to grade on his opinion a little bit but as long as you remember his opinions and the facts together, you'll be fine. I dont think he is dat easy, but he is not dat hard either
Prof Futtner is a great speaker. He is able to relate classical pieces of art into clear, everyday examples. He does grade a little biasly, but it's more on implementing examples and terms, and definately on how professional you write.
He was great, all u need to do is show up to class and take notes because his tests are based of them. His tests however hes really picky on your writing you must have good gramar and spelling. Hes very cool and he's funny.
Pcc should be proud of this excellent art historian.I enjoyed every minute of his lecture . He is very articulate, hard working professor with a very rich vocabulary.
Probably the best lecturing professor I've ever taken. Fascinating material - and this comes from a science major who's never taken an art history class before.
He's a great teacher. Gives good lectures. His class is so boring. His exam are difficult and sometimes hard to understand. Take lots of notes and catch up with the readings.
his lecture is good. but not easy. specially if u are esl student, don't take him. his test is all essay. not good to broken english writer.
He was horrible. Aside from being very scarcastic and judicial to the art, he was never very clear on what he wanted. His lectures were very boring and even if you taped the lectures and memorized them, you still would do bad on the tests.
It is very hard to found what he is looking for in the test and he make the test as essay questions.
Futtner is one of the best profs ive had at pcc, his lectures are fascinating and enjoyable. His class is hard, but worth it.
He is a wonderful professor, and have a good sense humor. Very articulated and gives good lecture. I learn a lot in his class, at the mean time I had a lot of fun too.
I love Mr. Futtner! He's so funny and his lectures are fascinating. He does grade a bit hard, but just pay attention in lecture and take notes, and you should do well. He's very clear and makes art history really fun. Very willing to help you out.
The class I was in was a huge auditorium and man is he boring. He lectures a lot and the tests are retarded. You could look over and try to memorize 60 slides, but on the test he will test 1 or 2 of them. I disagree with the testing it's way too hard.
there aren't homeworks or anything besides 3 exams and one formal analysis, so if u didn't do well on the exams, there is no way to bring up ur grade. he uses very rich vocabularies and expect everyone else to do so. lots of readings.
rediculously hard, near impossible to please
Funny, funny guy! Good lecturer. I didn't care much for art history when I registered for this class but I think I'll take more classes with him!

If only all professors/teachers lecture like him. Very enjoyable and informative class, although sometimes the lecture can include a lot (a little too much) info and get a little hard taking notes. But overall not a bad class and teacher.
Dont be fooled by fun lectures & his jokes, hes a nice guy,so it seems until he tests. Tests ridiculously hard.makes you memorize 20-25 slides + 10 or so other things and on the test hell give u 3-4. though u know it and write about it, its never enough.
i think he is a great teacher.. he knows what he's talking about.. he's very clear with what he says... but his tests might be a lil hard coz its essay based but other than that... jus give it all u got and jus remember to think like him..!
a great guy but grades HARD!!! actually you dont really have to go to class because he will give you a list of what's on the exam. it's an easy C WITHOUT touching the book.
Futtner is a really good speaker, and he sets the class bar really high. He expects a level of professionalism from everyone, and even if you don't care about continuing in art history for you career, writting a paper is still a good habit to learn...
If you are good at memorizing stuff than this class is for you. His lectures are insightful and it helps to take notes. I got B+ on 2 tests just by memorizing what the book said. You also have to make a trip to a museum for a paper. Easy.
i dont know who the person was who said he was hard to please, but i think he is on drugs....Futtner works with every student to help them...if you actually TRY..this is college, there are no free rides...TAKE FUTTNER....he is the best art hist teacher!
Futtner is a good lecturer, knows his material well. However, be prepared with a dictionary and memorization. He says he does not like us to reiterate from the book onto our tests, but it is difficult not to. Be prepared to do lots of reading & research.
I took Futtner for 1A as well. He's a great teacher, great lecturer who makes Art History really interesting. He is very challenging, however. In order to do well on his exams you really need to understand the important themes covered in class.
one word. BORING!!!
Fantastic teacher, great lecturer. I looked forward to this class every Wednesday- just know the material really well and you'll do fine. I got straight A's in the class without trying too hard. Definitely recommended.
A lot of information to study. Download the slide lists in order to know which artworks to write careful notes on. He focuses on the pieces on the slide lists. The slide lists will be the test study guide also. Be clear in your tests.
HARD and BOOOORING! you sit in a dark auditorium with soft seats, all you do is want to FALL ASLEEP! i would bring magazines and food and read them with my friend. his lectures are BORING!! and he grades SUPER hard on tests! DONT TAKE HIM!
Prof. Futtner's lectures were kind of boring, but his lectures helped me when I took the essay tests. There were a total of three essay tests, usally with two or three slides -- two known, and one unknown.
course itself is boring- futtner makes it as entertaining as POSSIBLE. try not to take it early in the morning. also, there is only a couple assignments and tests to base your entire grade on, so study and do all the work or your screwed.
anyone who says futtner is boring is an idiot and shouldn't be taking art history anyway. he makes the subject matter as intersting as possible. he's funny and his lectures are generally enjoyable to listen to.if you're willing to invest, you can get an A
He's the best art tacher ever, his lectures are fun ,and test are extremly easy if you wrote notes down and study them.If you desire to get A , take his class
Mr. Futtner rocks. He has a great sense of humor and brings great knowledge and experience to the classroom. It's a lecture class, so be prepared to listen, but don't worry cuz his lectures are great. Take notes and read.
Anybody taking Art History for the first time? Take Futtner!! He's very clear with the material and elaborate. He is there to talk to you no matter what and is a very approachable man. He is a hard teacher, but if you're here for the education, you'll do fine.
Futtner is a hard grader, but you will definitely learn a lot in his class. He is passionate about his subject and helpful to students. He wants you to succeed!
His tests are all esseys, but they are quit easy.I get an A in his class, and he really help students to know art history deelply. If you really want an A ,take his class.
One of the most enjoyable teachers for what could be a hard or boring subject. He is very descriptive in his lectures and fun. Take notes, do the reading and you should do great. He's very helpful and allows extra credit assignments. Pay attention and you should get an A
Great sense of humor. Fair, personable. One guy that said it was hard to stay awake as you sit in "soft seats" and want to fall asleep- he should have taken it when I did, and the seats were hard wood. THREE HOURS WORTH! THAT was hard!
TAKE FUTTNER! This man is a tremendous teacher- I admit some days the dark lighting and the familiar voice wreaked havoc on my ability to concentrate, but his lectures were insightful, funny, clear and his personality was extremely engaging. Take detailed notes and you CANNOT go wrong in his class.
Took him 10 years ago. At that time, it was a hard class. I got an ulcer - no kidding. I covered more material than I believed I could and also ended up with an A. It made me feel like I had done the impossible. He was kind and sincere. Is he easier now? Maybe so. But either way, a great teacher.
Just go to class, skim the book, and memorize the dates, and info about the pictures on the slide lists and you will get an A.
he was very curt and rude with me when asking about problems with material and his grading system. He had no concept that his introductory students were not art history professors themselves.
Awesome professor! He has a great sense of humor. I was always entertained in his class. IMO, if you can't handle a class like his, maybe you shouldn't be in college. His standards ARE NOT high. He lectures are well detailed - you just have to listen and regurgitate during exams.
Please take this class. Fantastic professor! Hilarious and intelligent. I loved it.
if u want an easy a do not take this class. there is no homework only exams
took him for winter intercession; no homework only 3 exams; hilarious prof. who lectures extremely well, but talks 2 fast so bring a tape-recorder if u can. I got an "A" but i worked for it. remember to just study the slide list info. & not the other slides. don't forget to read the text!
Futtner is the best professor i have ever had. He is very intelligent, comical and charming. I never wanted to miss his class, infact i looked forward to it. he has a lot of energy and passion about art 1a. An easy A if you commit to the learning.
Makes a boring class interesting, without making it a Mickey Mouse course.
Great teacher, very humorous and knows his material. Easy class, not much homework. Enjoyable class, even if you're not into art history. Very helpful during office hours. Doesn't take much effort to get an A!
I LOVE FUTTNER! he is the best teacher EVER! no bias at all.. he is a very good teacher. he loves what he teaches and it shows. and his lectures are interesting, he's very funny!! he's not an easy grader, but that doesn't matter if you go to class and pay attention.
Professor Futtner is an awesome teacher! His lectures are uplifting, informative, and interesting. He is very passionate about what he does and it shows!! I loved his class and wish all my professors were like him!
he's the best lecturer in the art history departmnet. he really makes it fun and interesting to learn about art

he's a very fun teacher..he makes the class so interesting, and his tests are not so hard as long as you pay attention in class..
Futtner is a fantastic lecturer. He class is interesting and fun. We had three essay tests, one paper that requires a museum visit and two extra credit papers. If you are a strong writer, this class is an easy A.. Problems- class always starts late 10-15min, often canceled, very late in returning assignments, limited office hours, seemed stressed.
Great guy, full of energy for a middle age man. you could feel the passion from the lecture. the lecture always fun to listen too, there's a lot of joke to easy the tension without making it sound phony and stupid. great guy, come to class on time and you'll get at least B/C
i heart prof. futtner. he is the best art history teacher ever. i never really like art history until i took his class, and now i'm majoring in art history. he's a fair grader. you just have to come to class and take notes. if you want an A, take lots of notes. his lectures are interesting, he'll throw in some jokes to make it fun. take him!!
Very witty man makes his lectures interesting and fun. However sometimes I thought the lectures were a bit too long (took a once a week course 3.5 hours long) The exams arent too hard but not too easy either. If you allow enough time to study you might get a B or A. Good writing skills helps on exams and he was very helpful teaching the subject
Professor Futtner knows what he's talking about and makes one of the most boring classes every to grace a college classroom interesting. The exams are only what make up your grade and are very easy to do as long as you take decent notes on the specific slides that are on the exam (he gives you a list of what slides are on the exam online).
Professor Futtner is a wonderful professor! I highly recommend taking his class. I had never taken art history before and was truly inspired and incredibly interested in his lectures. I passed both classes with an A. His passion for art history and his ability to make it accessible to students has inspired me to become an art history major.
Not too hard as long as you pay attention in class. Not a lot of outside reading required. Tests are all essay tests and all tests address the painting from the lectures. Can be funny at times, but can definity be snooze central as well.
great professor, real life insight -- quirky at the same time
he's good but hard
He's one of the best teachers on this campus. He makes the subject matter interesting and is more than willing to give help to any student who needs it.The exams are challenging if you're not use to writing essays, but if you study and pay attention in class then the exams are straight forward.
Overall was a boring class but he made it interesting and he was very good when it came to teaching.
Someone needs to say it, FUTNER is incredibly handsome! Take him for that reason alone, but it does help that he's brilliant.
hes awesome as everyone here has said. i agree with everyone, and he told my class the first day we would be bored out of our minds, and just after he said that i knew i would like the class and i do. its so much fun to listen to the lecture and write good notes.
His lectures are not horrible, then again teaching art history isn't the most interesting thing in the world. He keeps the students entertained with his quirky voices, -=i.e Arnold Shwartzenneger=-, but his tests are pretty hard. I couldn't answer him thouroughly even though i took pages of notes during lecturs.
I loved this professor as soon as I walked into my Art History 1B class! He is really chill and there's never any homework. As long as you just show up for class and take some notes on the slides he presents to you, you'll be fine. He makes jokes during class, tells personal stories, and he does very good impersonations and accents, too.
zZzZzZzz....
Very difficult. Not clear on what he wants on exams. Only 3 tests and one Project. Tests difficult, very easy to flat out fail on project, and lectures are very boring. Worst class ive taken. Avoid him if you can.
He's lecture is interesting, but he's not clear on what he wants for the tests. You really have to study.
One of my favorite Futtner quotes is when he read his review here and encouraged students NOT to take his class because a student wrote "he's so booooring." Dudes, and dudettes, it's a LECTURE class. When taking any tests, bear in mind he wants to know you know the historical context. Oh, btw, he's HOT hot. and has a brain, please keep that in mind
Why are so many people saying he's hot/handsome? I guess I haven't looked THAT closely at him to know. Anyway, art history isn't interesting, IMO. It really isn't. BUT, he does what he can, & has done a good job at it, of making the concepts somewhat "enjoyable" w/ his accents and stories. You really have to know the artwork to do well on exams.
if you are interested in learning about western art, this is the class to take. ive learned a lot in his class. he teaches by giving you easy examples and sometimes funny ones too.
I really enjoyed taking this class and am sad that I won't be able to return to his lectures. Prof. Futtner is a fantastic orator and has a way with words that is magical to listen to. He could be giving a lecture on rectal exams and I think it would sound great. Oh, and he does have an alarmingly handsome quality about him. All in all a fun class.
funny dude cuz he makes the lectures funny. I actually find it funnier when he would make a joke and no one would laugh or get it. historical context is everything on his exams. I did a great job explaining the art work but he gave me a C+ cuz i didnt give historical context. He reads these things so he knows wuts up!Down to earth, funny, and helpful
This is by far my favorite teacher at PCC. He has a real passion for the subject which comes out in his lectures in an entertaining way. I highly recommend taking his class if art history interests you.
very interesting class. he says its the most boring class you'll ever take, and to drop it immediately. but its really not that bad. actually make it quite funny. but.. the dark theater + comfy chairs make you wanna sleep.
Prof. Futtner is pretty funny during his lectures because he does alot of accents and impersonations, but the overall the class is "Ok." Get him later on during the day because you will 'ZzZz' in the mornings! You sit there, look at certain slides and listen to him talk. There's only 3 tests and 1 art museum paper that you do during the semester.
this guy is amazing!!! i love him to death, at first i hated the class but as soon as i got into to it, it was the best class i have ever had!!! take him you'll love it!!!
If you like art history and theory, don't take him. His lecture is geared to the rest of the pcc students and you'll be like wtf?! He grades harshly.
Great guy to talk to, i had him for 1a and 1b. He's not the guy if your english is poor, lazy or just want a easy grade. He does have a standard for grading and if you can catch the pattern, you'll pass the class. its hard to get a hold of him sometime because the class is so large.I took 1a first and got a B, then i took 1b with him again and got A
His lecture is not boring compare to other prof.he is funny and entertaining.no MC,only essay Questions.Hard to get good grade if your english suck cuz he grade hard on the writting.u can still pass the class with all D on all test and C- on the museum paper like me.don't take if u R ESL student.
Mr. Futtner is a passionate professor who knows his art very well.Yeah, you do sometimes want to sleep considering the dark theater atmostphere, but he will make you laugh with his imitations and sound effects and that's what makes it fun an interesting.Overall he is a down to earth, nice and somewhat handsome for his age professor. Tests are hard
Mr. Futtner is effing HOT AS ALL HELL!!! I couldn't keep my eyes off of him! I am so in love with him!
What a great teacher, the lectures were fun and interesting, and I learned so much about art history. His passion for the subject really translates into a great class. If you take the time to learn the material, and can communicate it in tests, you'll do well.
HE IS THE MOST BORING TEACHER IN THE WORLD. HE IS NOT FUNNY. HE GETS MAD VERY FAST. HE IS NOT HANDSOME. HIS IMMITATIONS ARE NOT AMUSING. CAN NOT STAY AWAKE IN HIS CLASS IF YOUR LIFE DEPENDED ON IT!
I received a B in Art 1B Fall 05. I got B+, B+, and an A on the tests. He says he uses the grading rubric on the PCC website but this is not technically true. The generic A on the website is so vague that it doesn't help. Ask him for what his opinion on an A is because that is how I got an A on the final. His imitations are corny/funny.
He's boring but trys to be funny. And he isn't. Talks the whole time and exams are hard. Not the best teacher to take.
BORING is the main word to describe him. The best way to do well on his tests is to take his slide sheet (his way of narrowing down the tests) and memorize the title, date, and time period of EVERY single slide. His museum project is only bad if you do not pay attention to what he wants.
His class is kind of boring, but he tries to make it fun with his lame imitations and jokes. It's hard not to fall asleep so I suggest you bring a cup a coffee with you. There are only 3 essay exams and 1 museum assignment. You'll do fine if you just study everything on his slide lists and take notes during his lectures.
no disrespect to mr. futtner, but ART HISOTRY HAS GOT TO BE THE DUMBEST CLASS EVER!!! jesus this, jesus that. **** JESUS! i don't care what "symbolism" has been attached to mother mary in da vinci's painting or michaelangelo's sculpture (fictitious), lame lame lame. lame class. futtner, astounding teaching nonetheless
Cool teacher, gave good lectures, u will do well if u would go to the lecture and take notes.
He's a great teacher but not only does he teach a hard subject, but his class is not easy. You will learn a lot about art but it is a HARD class b/c there are only 3 tests, 3 questions each + a project. I took lots of notes but still did mediocre on the tests (C, F, B) + an extra credit grade so I got a C (I feel lucky that I did). Coasters beware!
the class isnt worth taking unless you are an art major or for some reason need the class. take something easier and chiller. even though hes a good teacher, the material and room makes it a sleeper. the class is actually pretty easy ... but the truth is, most people arent going to do good.
taught by the wrong instuctor, these classes could be boring, but professor futtner makes them enjoyable with his wit & humor. taught in movie theatre setting with an art slideshow, the environment can induce drowsiness if you're not inclined towards the arts and/or history. summer/winter classes don't write a museum paper and have less exams.
He is the most intelligent instructors at the school. It was a pleasure being in his class. I wasn't interested in art history before his class and now I want to major in it. His class is not easy but it he certinaly makes it interesting.
I had a hard time in his class because of the length and the boredom in the material. Take notes on the slides you are tested on (he gives you a slide sheet before the tests). Also, emorize the titles, places, periods, and dates to ALL of the tested slides before the tests. If you get those right you'll get good grades on the tests. (I got an A)
CLASS IS BORING AT TIMES. TESTS ARE HARD. STUDY YOUR NOTES. THE SLIDES ARE THE TEST. OFFERS EC THROUGHOUT THE SEMESTER BE SPECIFIC ON YOUR TESTS AND YOULL BE FINE
love him; one of those classes that is saved by the professor. the class itself is a challenge (you're going to have to study) but his clarity & helpfullness is outstanding. he's not there to entertain you but definetly relates to his students and has incredible dark humour. TAKE HIM!!!
COOL teacher! but boring class,i recommend you take him during the winter intersession he grades easier, plus he is funny and easy to talk to he has a good attitude towards his students.but remember Art history is boring no matter who you take it with.
Great professor for Art! Totally love his teaching style. Extremely dry and funny guy! Always kept me awake in class and I took it for summer session! He has good methods in teaching! Prepares you well for tests and the stuff you learn... it stays with you.
can you say... ZzzzZz? tests are way too hard... I read and took notes, yet still I couldn't get a B. Gotta have some sort of passion for the class to stay awake.
This professor makes the lectures interesting, although at times, it does get pretty boring. The exams are essay based, so you have to write specific details for the three questions. The extra-credit he offers, does help your grade. He will give tips on how to do well on the exams, if you visit him during office hours.
Really great personality w/ good takes on art history and composition. Very easy as long as you pay attn. to what he repeats and emphasizes in lecture and have decent writing skills for essay exams. Go to each class and listen, even passively, w/ a study session before an exam and you'll do really well. Took 1A and 1B concurrently and had no pro
very cool teacher. pretty funny, too. im currently taking him. it does get a bit boring at times. exams are essay based
Absolute gem in the Art Department! I loved this man He was the most helpful, clear, and devoted professor I have encountered! If you honestly want to excel in your academics and learn great note taking skills and active listening, take this class.V ery funny man, equally sensitive, creates an ideal conducive learning environment. A brilliant man!
Professor is really funny. He lectures the entire time you're there so try not to nod off. Other than that his tests are all about concepts not art names so if you read and pay attention it should be easy.
Joe is one of the most intellectual professors that I have taken in PCC. Once you have taken his class you would know! He's fair and takes CARE of his students if they are STRUGGLING, on top of that, he can talk forever. TAKE GOOD NOTES,DO THE EXTRACREDITS, COME TO CLASS EVERY TIME. IT'S NOT HARD ONCE YOU MASTER THE VOCABULARY AND IDENTIFICATION!
Great teacher! Has a true passion for what he does and that makes the class fun. He makes funny remarks throughout the class to keep you awake and interested. He only lectures which could get boring sometimes, but if you take notes and study, you should pass the class with no problem. I wish I had him for all my classes!
A great man!!!!!! Very helpful and understanding! 3 tests + one EASY paper (and EXC) WE LOVE YOU PROF!!!!!!
DO NOT TAKE FUTTNER'S CLASS IF YOU WANT TO PASS. Here's an example test question: Post-Millennium Europe is marked by a renewed interest in monumental form, both architectural and sculptural. Discuss this phenomenon." This info is not in the book and not discussed in class. All questions are like this. DO NOT TAKE FUTTNER'S CLASS.

Excellent teacher. Expects college level behavior but fair and interesting. All you need to do is attend class take notes and pay attention when he's telling you about the assignments and what he expects them to be. Not hard if you pay attention and do your work. Really made the subject interesting. Three tests, a couple writing assignments.
SAY YOU GET AN "F" ON YOUR 1ST EXAM AND THEN YOU STUDY HARD AND GET AN "A" ON THE NEXT, HE'LL BE A NICE GUY AND CANCEL THAT "F" FOR YOU. BUT HIS EXAM QUESTIONS ARE OUT THERE-NONE OF THEM NECESSARY COME STRAIGHT FROM THE BOOK. AND NO MATTER HOW MANY DIFFERENT VOICES HE MAKES TO LIVEN THE CLASS UP, HIS CLASS IS STILL B-O-R-I-N-G!
Intelligent, great sense of humour, lively, witty, and very passionate in what he talks about. great professor. respectable. take good notes in lectures for tests.
At the 1st meeting, he told us his class was the combo of Art (boring) + History (boring, too) = the most boring class in the northern hemisphere lol. He's very passionate about the subject and always tried to make the lectures interesting. Tests are all essays, which are not too hard. Hint: use art terminology. Mine required a museum project.
A class I'm glad I took. I enjoy traveling and I learned a lot about Europe and its history -- I feel that I can appreciate being there more, having knowledge of the historical monuments in relation to art. Art museums interest me a whole lot more now. The lectures do get a little long and tiring, though. English accent needs a little work.
One of the most sophisticated teachers ever. Humor, knowledge, passion, interesting assignments is what keeps his class going. Highly recommend everyone who cares about arts.
He talks way too much about things not related to the work. He turns the lights completly off and makes it 400 times easier to fall asleep. So boring and he uses 4 different voices to make it more fun but its just pathetic.
I found Prof. Futtner to be a sophisticated thinker and I thought his lectures were engaging and intellectually stimulating. His exams are challenging and require critical thinking skills. I would not recommend this class to anyone searching for an easy A.
Professor Futtner is very accomodating towards his students when the student really needs it. Good professor!!
Great teacher! Very intersting and insightful. Learned a tremendous amount about art in a really fun way.Cant go wrong taking him!
Only had class once a week for 3 hrs..Futtner is nice and funny...the class is not hard at all. memorize the slides on the slide sheet and you'll get a B or better. Class isnt mandatory but if ur not a great memorizer or dont want to read the textbook in its entirity then go to class.
Professor Futtner is the most intelligent instructor I have ever had. This is not just because I was successful in his class, but because he motivated me toward a new respect for art! There is no homework, attendance is essential for success. Be sure to study for the 3 tests and write the research paper (due at end of semester) Great Class!
His lecture is very interesting and good. His test is little tough though. You have to pay attention to the lecture and the info. from the book.
this class is pretty interesting but he is quite picky about how he wants to you answer his questions for his tests. he knows a lot about what he is teaching which is cool because he'll tell some weird and quirky facts about the art as well. he's kind of tough but reading the textbook and attending class is a must in order to do well.
Prof.Futtner is a great professor... He is extremely accomodating. He is tough, but you learn and he is available for extra help or if you have concerns. Take his class and you won't regret it!
MR. FUTTNER IS VERY INTELLIGENT AND INTELLECTUAL PROFESSOR. HE MAKES ART HISTORY SEEMS INTERESTING WITH HIS CLEAR LECTURES. TAKE HIM AND YOU WON'T REGRET.
He makes art history so much more interesting. The guy knows what hes talking about. The test is easy if you just memorize slide lists he gives you and he gives you an opportunity for extra credit. I was still in high school when I ACED this easy class.
Great prof!! He makes Art History FUN!!
He likes to use fancy, obscure words and that is because he is super intelligent. He seems kind of snobby but he is approachable and kind. I recommend him. He makes art history come alive! ~applause for Mr. Futtner~
he recently changed the way he grades & now only does pop quiz's based on 1 single random question from his lecture & gives you a number grade (1- 4). so there is no HW at least but if you don't write down everything he says and spell all the european names correctly he will only give you 3's which is a B in the class even if you have 0 absences
Professor futtner is the best. He is very smartor should I say intelligent. He is also very helpful when you approach him with any questions. He knows the subject very well, and I never even needed to refer to the book he covered everything. His tests are all based on pop up questions. If you pay attention in class you'll ace the quizzes.
Very interesting class, good professor and nice person, I recommend him. Definitely not boring.
Gave me a B but I still highly recommend. Just take a lot of notes and use the few words(italian) he teaches every class. They will be on the board! Awesome lecturer. Nothing is cumulative so show up all the time for that golden A.
i always think teachers are lame when theyre trying to be funny, but this guy is actually funny to me. he makes lectures feel like stand up comedy sometimes. i can tell he knows what hes talking about. have him for a 3 hour class and i dont even fall asleep. doesnt have tests! we do a lot short answer essays in class and dont use the book at all
Prof. Futtner is by far one of the best experiences I've had at PCC. Makes the lectures come alive and keeps you laughing the whole time. Just be sure to come to class--he gives exams off of videos and/or pieces that were discussed in class. Would absolutely reccomend him to anyone who needs to fulfill an art requirement.
i love you professor futtner
I took Medevil Art w/ him. He does NOT give any tests at all. Just attend all the classes. Take notes on the lecture, and at the end of the class he gives a writing assignment. (doesnt have to be too long) I didnt even bother buying the book and I got an A.
Never have i been so content with getting a B. Prof Futtner made the class so interesting and made me want to try harder. If you love art history take him. even if you dont, take him. he just hates talking and texting so dont do either of those. he is incredibly funny and so friendly. one of my fav profs at PCC so far.
is really passionate about the subject and is very knowledgeable attendance is mandatory because writing assignments are given at random no tests but grade is based on in class writing assignments so make sure to take good notes
Great Teacher. Extremely Easy. All you have to do is pay attention & take notes. There are no tests or homework. He grades you off writing assignments he gives in class (warning) he never tells you before hand when you're going to have one so showing up everyday is a must. Take this class easy A.
This class is really easy provided that you can write proficiently. You don't need the textbook (really!), just listen to the lectures and take notes. Grade is based strictly on the writing assignments that he arbitrarily gives so make sure to attend each class. (Assigns it often but it's open notes=easy!) Smart, funny professor. Recommended!
Prof. Futtner is the best professor, period. If you think you'll get an A without listening you won't, but if you a) stay awake and b) TAKE NOTES you will. He is helpful, kind, funny and you're doing yourself a disservice if you fall asleep in his class. I hated art history but he made me love it. In short TAKE HIM. He and his class is genius.
at least!!!! better than HAYNES SANDRA.
worst professor ever. he stinks at lecturing - always so quiet and mumbling. his tests are stupid. don't take him. take andres instead.
coming from someone who hates art history, Professor Futtner really tried to make his class enjoyable. There is no homework for this class, but you have to pay attention during class if you want to do well. There aren't any tests, just questions that are scored from a 1 to 4. Overall, he's an awesome professor. Highly recommended. I got an A.
He's funny and his class is farily easy. Just show up (very important) because he has surprise essays which is related to the lecture and open notes (usually), so it's not hard. Definitely recommend this teacher!
Prof. Futtner's art history class is extremely interesting and fulfilling. It's not solely art history but philosophy of life incorporated into art. Easy writing assignments as long as you pay attention/take good notes--which are the only assignments/final. Futtner is highly knowledgeable, uniquely hilarious, and presents in an entertaining manner
Futtner's class is easy if you pay attention and take good notes. You HAVE to come to class and ON TIME- or he will for sure drop you or embarrass you in front of the class about being late. (trust me it sucks) But overall easier class than Haynes. You only do easy writing assignments and dont have to worry about tests or a final!!
Okay, someone below posted that Futtner "stinks at lecturing" WTF?! Do you have dirt for brains? Futtner's lectures are awesome! He takes a potentially dry subject and makes it fun and interesting. I have taken him for A & B. My #1 favorite professor at PCC.
This class is SO EASY. Just attend class, pay attention, and you will get an A. Don't buy the book, hell, don't even take notes. They're all useless. Just make sure you're awake when he shows a video at teh end of class because hes going to ask you a question off that video and that will be your grade.
Professor Futtner is a GREAT lecturer and his class is incredibly interesting if you like learning about ancient society, architecture, and art. I have learned a ridiculous amount of information and he requires minimal work. Don't buy the book! Great class!
Don't bother buying the book. I did and haven't even looked at it once. Grade is based on his lecture and/or video that he shows each class session. So, don't miss class otherwise it will really effect your grade. Pay attention in class and take notes - that is what you rely on for the tests.
His class is easy if you have a professional writing skill. You can pretty much BS everything, but it has to have clarify.
Professor Futtner is a really good teacher. I highly recommend not being late, because he'll probably make an ass out of you. There's little textbook use. If you just pay attention, take notes, and basically write better than a 6th grader, you're fine. Plus I think he's totally hot for an older guy, but I like his look. Haha.
Professor Futtner was a great teacher who is very passionate about his job, and definatly knows what he is talking about. He is very straight forward, and will help you if you need it. Take good notes and be there for the writing assisngments and dont be late!!
Great teacher. Very funny, and a very detailed professor. He makes you see things that you normally wouldn't notice in a piece of art. You don't need to buy the book. Take good notes and you'll do fine. He has the biggest classes on campus, so obviously he's very popular. Take him! :)
The professor was funny, but his class was boring. I couldn't stand the class or every minute of his lecture. There's three major writing assignments in his class and there's no homework except for short writing assignment at the end of class. I didn't even use the book and even though I work my ahem off i still got a C so i guessi have to try hard
Easy teacher, extremely nice, the in-class writing assignments are easy if you can write better than a 10 year old. Easy class, Lectures are kinda boring, but i LOVE this kinda thing. most ppl slept or played games or watched movies while he lectured. Still Amazing class. Easy good grade. Textbook not really needed, i didnt buy one and he okayed it
Best lecturer ever. So knowledgeable and interesting. I only wish I could have recorded the entire class and sold his lecture series to PBS. He is amazing.
Futtner is one of my favorite professors! ART1B is sooo easy and really interesting. I like art history so this class was actually enjoyable. We watched a lot of movies and had writing assignments after the movies that were only 1 sentence long. No homework at all .. EVER! except for a take home essay. He's pretty funny during lectures too.
He makes art history fascinating. No boring textbook memorization. Just attend the class, take lecture notes, and do your best at his end-of-class writing assignment. The questions are not rocket science, as long as you listen, you will love art history. Extremely knowledgeable about the subject. Totally recommend him for Art 1A and 1B.
Don't take this class unless you are familiar with art hist or are an excellent writer.I take this class in hope of learning more about art history and all we do is watching videos and write in-class essays. He is a funny and charismatic lecturer but the thing is he doesnt tell you clearly what you are missing to get an A.Try other professor first.
Professor Futtner was one of my favorite professors at PCC. His lectures were clear, he made art history relatable, interesting, and the learning experience worthwhile. He's WAY BETTER than Haynes! The only downside is that he doesn't allow laptops in class.
Random check-ups on the students, to see if they are there, otherwise he drops you. Don't buy the book, waste of money. Make sure you take notes for in-class papers, they are randomly given. I highly recommend him, he's funny and witty. btw it's an easy A if you understand and like art
loveeed this class!! hes an awesome prof. vveryy understanding. if you have any questions he helps u.. hes funnny and makes sence of everything, gives random writing assignments if u listen to wtv he talks abt there is no way u can fail i passed with a B but the class b4 i took with haynes i failed pretty big dif if u ask me. i highly reccommended
Futtner is a really cool guy. 3 hours straight in any class sucks, but he does his best to keep it interesting. I felt as though it was one of those classes that is really hard to get an "A", but show up and you'll get a "B". He'll make you laugh and knows his stuff. If you need this class please take him!
Futtner was a great teacher - helpful, interesting, and constantly making jokes - and made the time fly in class. He gives writing assignments at the end of lectures so beware, and checks up whether you're goofing off on your laptop or not. I took notes on my laptop all semester and got an A. I loved his class, he's the best at PCC hands down.
-lecture, notetaking, videos; lets his classes out earlier than scheduled time, assignments given at end of most classes based on lectures that day or lecture before (memorize material); these 1/2 page assignments are the only determinants of your grade; no final, not tests; EASY A IF YOU PAY ATTENTION & STUDY. EASIEST ART HISTORY CLASS EVER.
loved this class!! i wish every class was as fun as his
took in intersession. 11 writing assignments, w/ 1 dropped. not too difficult to get an A, easy to get a B. if you're good at writing and have paid attention in class, you should get an A. Also, minimal book use.
Futtner's a highly intelligent professor; he requires conciseness and clarity in the writing assignments you hand in. He's also very strict on attendance and being in class on time, which is understandable. He made me consider switching my major to Art History because he presents the subject in such a fascinating way. He's the best PCC has to offer
Professor Futtner will talk for hours! The class is basically all lecture. No exams, no homework, not even a final. There are one or two small writing assignments in class a week and thats all. Reading the textbook isnt needed either since he covers everything during the lectures. Overall a really good professor.
BEST LECTURE CLASS EVER...LEARNED TONS...TAKE ALOT OF FOOTNOTES AND YOULL BE FINE :)
He's a cool guy. He stays in shape and drinks coffee, so his lectures are energetic. You still need to survive the lectures though, as some meetings are 3 hours long. He ties in a little bit of philosophy and cold hard truths about the reality of the world into his lectures about art history. Class is easy if English is your first language.
Professor Futtner is the BEST. He's absolutely HILARIOUS, his lectures are always interesting and easy to understand, and he's just a genuinely nice man willing to help you with anything. I recommend you take him if you like art. He's AMAZING.
I really like art, so this was a totally cool class. He keeps it plenty lively so you have an easier time paying attention, and helps lower your stress by not giving out actual tests, homework or projects, just a few in-class writing assignments. Plus, he barely uses the text. Go by notes, get there on time and you'll be fine.
Very good professor! If you know nothing about art, take him and you'll pass. All you have to do is pay attention to his lectures and answer prompts at end of class. Great professor, never dull, very helpful, and speaks VERY clearly.
Amazzzing prof. he made me want to learn more about the art themselves. he has his days, sometimes he will be in a mood to just put in a video & chill or give a lecture and crack jokes left and right. But dont bother taking his class if u come late, he hates late pple. Get to kno him he gave me amazing advice i can take in life and remember it 4vr
Dear lord do not underestimate how boring this class can be.
Futtner is a great professor. Very sharp and smart. The entire class is made up of lectures - if you're not into that, this probably isn't for you. Don't let that scare you - he's fantastic at what he does and keeps the class engaged. Would take again.
Professor Futtner is one of my most favorite professors. He is really knowledgeable and his lectures are easy to understand considering that English isnt my first language. Also, he cares about his students grades. Just ask for extra credits if needed. No test in this class, just pop quizzes so make sure you pay attention to lectures and videos.
The lectures are really informative and you do not want to miss class. The textbook is pretty accessible. There are a few writing prompts that are relatively easy if you do the reading and take notes during lecture. It's art history so if you aren't interested in it, it will probably be a boring class.
Do your work on time and cite your sources! Prof. Futtner loves the subject he teaches so it's not hard to get on board too! He provides helpful videos and clear prompts. I like art history so this class was pretty interesting. There isn't too much work so this class is great if you have to take other work-heavy classes this semester.
Listen, hes a great teacher. All you have to do are these papers he gives every week which is 1 assignment paper a wk its 3 questions that you have to answer using a BOOK! So read the book on that area and BOOM easy A Bc the answers are in the book and he provides videos. Just know what to write. (No joke) I wish I chose him the first time around.
Honestly I don't know if i'm just bad at art history, but this class was almost harder than Chemistry for me. The grading criteria isn't really told to you and his feedback is confusing, while office hours barely exist. The reading, videos, and prompts are very light work though!
Grading criteria was not always clear. Did not explain how long he wanted work to be so make sure you write plenty just in case. Make sure to cite the textbook and include a works cited page in your response bc he marks points off if you dont (even though he didnt specify in instructions that you should). Grading was very inconsistent.
Professor Futtner is by far the best Art history prof I've had. no required zoom meetings is assignments are very straightforward, and no tests. All of his assignments were each worth 10 points adding up for your final grade in the end. By far the best and most enthusiastic professor in the art history category. Highly recommend taking him.
Took his art history class and it was honestly the best. He's very straightforward with his assignments, no exams really just read the textbook for help on assignments. Very passionate about the subject and honestly a very easy course compared to others. I highly recommend Professor Futtner compared to anyone else.
Hes extremely picky and demanding, regarding the work you submit. Nothing is ever good enough for him unless you type up a 3 page essay on each of the questions he asks. Dont even get me started on the citing, he expects you to cite no matter what, even if what you typed came directly from your head. He also calls you out indirectly in class.
He is a tough grader. I saw someone said this below too, you can never please him with okay-level writing. I am not sure what he expects from us, but I feel like I am taking a writing class, not a history class. I shouldn't have taken the class in the first place. I am here to learn not to worry about homework like I get paid to do it.
Professor Futtner is a nice professor and willing to work with students, but he is such a tough grader. He grades so strict for no reason. No matter how much effort you put into the work, he always finds a way to take off points. Also, he is very strict about citing every assignment even if you did not use other sources. Easy class. Tough grader.
He rewards effort and gives clear and helpful feedback. Very nice!
My first C ever?! In a History Class, how embarrassing. Joe is super sweet don't get me wrong, but the number of times I reached out to him asking him why he grades my papers the way he does and his response was not clear. He' such a hard grader for no reason. It' literally impossible to get a 10/10. Don' take him if you want to stress on history.
Tough grader. No late work, canvas submission only, and he dont even let you resubmit the assignment. I dont know how he still managed to get a 4.2 rating. Some of the comments below werent even true.
The only art teacher who will give you a B even if you have an 89. Yup he's THAT professor who won't round up your grade. He's also a tough grader (as if his class mattered), doesn't give extra credit, doesn't accept late work, and is strict about citations.
WORST TEACHER. Such a tough grader doesn't help students at all. So strict on what the homework looks like, doesn't respond to emails, doesn't round grades. Take someone else please not worth it.
You get a new assignment every week on Mondays and was due on Sunday. Sometimes, he wouldnt assign a week (yay) Plenty of time to complete. Assignments are straight forward and easy to complete if you read and follow directions. I did mess up one assignment badly, so ASK questions if you are not sure! Overall, nice professor and learned a lot!
Get ready to spend a few hours getting your paper done. His online class goes like this, a paper would be due on Sunday, and it'd be available on Wednesday so you can have a few days. I'd say his grading and guidelines are not clear, because I feel like I can't ever please him, I'd never get a 10/10. His requirements are 250+ words and citations.
Easiest art history class ever. Very nice guy, but only thing it is difficult to get a perfect score on assignments. If you are okay with getting an A- or a B, take his class because his grading is very tough. Only one assignment a week and sometimes no assignments. I would recommend!!
This class was pretty straightforward. One assignment a week and sometimes no assignments. I could say that he is a strict grader. I've crafted a good essay, but I was not given a full score because I did not put an in-text citation. You would also have to put a works cited page for every assignment he gives. I got a full score on my final one. :D
I enjoyed taking his online class, it was pretty easy and straightforward. He assigned 1 assignment a week that was graded on a 1-10 point scale. You had to write a short 1-page essay answering the prompt, all of the information was in the textbook and videos he provided. He is a tough grader but is willing to help you via office hours or email.
He gives homework once a week for 1-10 points. It was not a stressful class but the homework had to be very detailed for you to get full points. If a homework assignment has an 8 or above you don't get to know what needs to b fixed to get a 10/10.
He grades on a 10 point scale which seems easy, but he rarely gives the full 10 points on papers. When you receive your score often times he doesn't provide feedback on what to fix in order to get full marks. He will only help before you turn in the paper in office hours.
Great class. To be fair it was an online class so I don't know professor Joe. Usually only gives one assignment per week and grades it out of 10 points. He rarely gives 10 points and his comments aren't any useful. Show effort when doing his assignments and he will surely give you good grades. This class is perfect for busy people.
Expect little feedback from prof. Class is easy if you write expansively: provide historical context on subject (it's an art HISTORY class), analysis on subject/time period, & at least 1 citation/paragraph. I spent ~2-3hrs/wk, didn't read the textbook but watched the videos, did some research on assignment topics, and got an A. Had fun learning.
