Pretty good teacher, but still a pretty hard class. You need to attend class often and sometimes read the book to do well. If you're looking for an easy humanities course, its not here ;)

First of all I took this class one day a week for 3 hours...I wouldnt recommend doing. But overall the class isnt that bad. Attendance isnt required but recommended. The tests are not too bad but the listening portion could be difficult. Just for tests make sure you listen to your music because that is probably the hardest part of his tests.

Overall a hard class. Don't study out of the book at all. Just buy the CDs. The exams are completely off his notes. He has lots of listening too and if you take his class late it can be a little long. He's always there for questions and is very helpful if you come to his office

I was one of the few who took the class knowing nothing about music or its history and I still got an A. Go to class and study the notes! I read the book before the tests.Extra credit on tests are easy and he'll usually give you hints to what the answers are right before the test.

Joe is an awesome guy. He laughs at his own jokes, but sometimes I laugh with him. Has a great attidute and is very helpful. Don't buy the book, there is a website for the book that helps and is free. His tests are easy they come right from the notes. He even emails the notes to you if you ask, so you'll have all the info. i <3 joe!!

I made the mistake of not studying his notes diligently. Class attendance is not necessary unless you learn by hearing information. If you attend, you do not need books or pens, you just need to listen. He emails you the notes. Easy Easy Easy if you study. He is a charming and funny guy.

I LOVED HIM! So funny, very interesting. You didnt have to attend class, but you should and you would want to. easy, never read the book, just the outline from the book website. 4 tests...EASY

Do not be fooled by the title of this class. The tests are very difficult. Be prepared to study at least 10-15 pages of notes for each class. He is very nice and helpful. Possible to get an A but have to work very hard!

Here's the deal: he doesn't announce his tests until a week before, which is a lame way of insuring his kids actually show up to class. However, it is an easy class, so if you just want the GPA boost, go for it.

Professor Gennaro is extremely interesting. He knows a lot about rock music and has interesting anecdotes and takes on different bands and their actions. I looked forward to his class everyday. Even studying for the tests was fun because it consisted of listening to rock music. Exposed me to music I would have never listened to on my own.

The class is extremely fun. Almost no workload other than a paper at the end of the semester, although you're not guaranteed an A. I cant say I tried very hard though. Tests were not too hard, but no walk in the park either.

SO sweet and so nice. One of the best teachers I've had at UCF so far. He is so clear and basically gives you all the answers for the tests in his lectures. Very fair grader. He even curves the tests and offers an easy extra credit opportunity. So worth it! You will not regret taking this class.

Don't buy the book. You will spend your time in class watching and listening to youtube videos of old music artists. Attendance is not mandatory, PowerPoints are online however coming to class benefits for test. He gives away answers and makes lectures interesting... sometimes.

A difficult class, but he is clear about what will be on the exam. It takes a lot of study time.

He tells you exactly what to study, and going to his lecture is very helpful but not required. The lecture seems a bit long because there is a lot of note taking involved, but he keeps it entertaing and it's well worth the time and effort.

His lectures are not exactly entertaining, but he covers all the material you will need for the test; it's not even necessary to read the book if you attend class and take notes. He was also very helpful whenever I emailed him with questions.

I took the honors section of this class and it was awesome. His notes are extremely useful, but it would do you good to skim through the book as well, especially to prepare for the exams. Great professor and really helpful when you ask him for help. Definitely one of the best professors I've had so far.

What a great professor. He is so clear on what you need to know and he always willing to help you if you need it. He also provided a great way to get a lot of extra credit. I have no interest in learning about music, but I really enjoyed the class because of his teaching style. I didn't expect this to be my best class of the semester.

Dr. Gennaro is a great professor. He is very helpful and is very passionate about his class. Take good notes from his slides and you'll be more then fine for the test. He's got a great sense of humor and teaches a great american pop music class!

Easy class! Go to class, take notes, listen to the music. I had no prior music expierence and did fine in this class, he makes it easy to get an "A".

Really great professor and fun class. Get to listen to lots of music, which makes lectures interesting. The material is intriguing so studying is minimal, although you do need to memorize some. Textbook helps a lot but isnt truly needed. 4 fairly easy tests, including a final, and one extra credit oppertunity makes getting a good grade very easy.

This class is an easy A. You don't need to go to class. He sends all his power points before every test. Memorize the power points and you'll get an A. Only 3 tests plus the final which is non cumulative. He offers extra credit which is worth up to 5% of your grade. Do not buy the text book! You don't need it at all

The class was extremely easy as long as you paid attention. The book definitely helped with the class, because you have to do listening journals and there is tons of info in the book to help writing them. His lectures were really interesting and I never minded coming to class. There were only 3 tests, but there were two quizzes and 4 journals.

This dude is the absolute man if you take him for Survey of Rock, memorize the powerpoint and its hard not to get an A.

He's pretty sarcastic and comes off a little mean and arrogant, which is what made me like his lectures tbh... Overall it was a pretty easy class. He just lectures whatever is on the powerpoint. Honestly just look over his powerpoint notes and you should be good. You basically just listen to music for half the class too. Took it for Summer B

Easy class. It takes little effort to get an A. Also, the professor really cares about you. He sends reminders and tips and just helps with stuff throughout the course; he's the best online prof I've had. Although I didn't actually learn the bs music history, I truly came to appreciate music and the skill more, especially listening to Pink Floyd.

There are 6 chapters of material, each has 3 assignments. 1 cognitive which can be difficult but can be found online 2 listening all online 3 journals just read from the book & online & you'll do well He said to buy the connect & i did but never once used it. overall easy A just use the multiple attempts he gives you

Easiest class I've ever taken. Read the modules and listen to the music. That's all you have to do. The listening journals are only 150-250 words, and you only have 5. There are 6 modules and 12 assessments. 6 cognitive (2 attempts, highest score kept, 60 min, 50 q's), and 6 listening (3 attempts, highest score kept, 75 min, 25 q's).

Taken as an online class. The material is super easy if you read, if not the answers are all online. Basically 3 assignments every 2 weeks. Be careful if you are going out of town or whatever when a module is due because he doesn't care, which was something I had a problem with. TA's grade papers and they are all very easy, just require time.

He's very nice & understanding. 2 assessments and a music journal (150-250 words) due every couple weeks. Each assessment takes up to an hour but theres multiple attempts so its easy to do good on them. Do NOT miss any assignments because grade can drop a lot. Set lots of reminders to complete them because he does not accept late or makeup work.

I took him online over the summer. The class was extremely easy. There are six modules, each with two assignments. So 12 total quizzes for the entire class. 25-50 questions. You're supposed to buy a textbook, but there are other study sources you can find that are free.

Took this course online so I didn't have a real connection with him however he did a great job handling the online course. He would send emails out 3-5 times a week reminding students on the assignments due and status of assignments that were already turned in. Work is somewhat easy, probably would've been easier if I actually enjoyed music.

This class was fairly easy as long as you stayed on top of your work. The only issue that I had was the listening journals because Im not a big music person. However the cognitive and listening assessment questions were on quizlet so I ended up not even needing to use the textbook. This is definitely an easy A as long as you put in effort.

His written exams were straight from his notes. For the listening quizzes, you just have to constantly listen to the music and the additional question is from the notes. You have to attend class because he doesn't post his powerpoints. He tries to make lecture fun. He also doesn't use Webcourses so you have to message him about grades.

I took MUL 2010 online, the content is pretty boring, but prof. seemed to care (even though it was just an online class so that didn't show through). Class consists of listening and cognitive assessments, all multiple choice, and a couple of writings based on music. Overall not hard, but not interesting either. Good to knock out GEP

I took this class for gen eds, so if youre looking for an easy gen ed you found it. The material is boring but you only have 6 modules with 3 assignments each and if taken in fall the 3 were due every other week. You dont have to read the whole book but its good to take info from to use for the assignments. Not into this type of music and was easy!

You don't have assignments every week which is great; it's every two weeks. Tests however, are very hard! Study and find resources online to help. The writing assignment is very easy.

I took this class online, and it was pretty simple. You have to do an assessment and a listening journal every 2 weeks, which was easy to keep up with. The only way I got decent assessment scores though was by reading the textbook, so it's a lot of reading. He gives you 2 attempts for every assessment, so getting good scores on them isn't hard.

For the online enjoyment of music class you have a test and paper due once every two weeks. If you keep up with your work you will pass.

Wonderful professor. Requires a lot of reading but as long as you space it out, you'll be fine. Exams are easy as long as you read the material and take notes. Listening journals are also easy as long as you look at the textbook. Totally recommend!

If you know nothing about music, you'll be sorry. You have a listening journal (easy) one week and the assessment of the chapters (mediocre) the following week. You can take the tests with the eBook open on another tab and you get 2 attempts. Type in a key word from the test question into the eBook search bar and you SHOULD find the answer soon.

Nice Class with a scary-looking grading scale but fairly easy when you get to the nitty-gritty. Exams are easy due to open book exams and give you plenty of time to study for them.

Gennaro was a pretty nice professor considering this was an online general eduacation course. This class was pretty easy as long as you complete all of the assignments.-

class was harder than it needed to be. i barely passed with an A and did fairly well on every assignment. the professor himself is cool though, always encouraged us to reach out for help. class is listening journals (very easy) and tests, tests are open book but the answers can be tricky and super annoying to find in the amount of time given.

Good GEP course. He sends out tons of emails to keep you on task. Always responds to messages quickly. Do the work, get a good grade. It's pretty simple.

Took Dr. Gennaro's class for a gen ed and honors requirement in-person in the Fall; class was very well organized, and grading criteria was very clear. The class was only exam-based, but they were fairly easy as long as you study for them. PowerPoints are posted online and his lectures are both informative and interesting. Would recommend.

I took this class online and I thought this professor did great! I see a lot of professors not caring online but he does :) he makes sure you understand what is due and when with lots of guidelines. Every week had an assessment and listening journal. Really great way to fulfill your GRW requirement for no big papers.

No musical knowledge is required. I took this class over Summer A. It consisted of 7 open-book assessments and one final writing assignment. I was expecting it to be really hard because of reviews - I did minimal work and got a high A. Textbook is required for access to course, but I only really used it for reference for the final assignment.

I took his online class in summer A 2020, it was quite easy because of 8 modules and 1 paper writing. If you already have knowledge about music it is an easy class. All you have to do is to listen to music which is in modules.

you have 7 "tests" in the class, super easy, all the answers are online. you have listening journals where you have to write but the professor doesn't grade it, the TA's do and they grade kind of harshly. you have to buy the book but you rarely have to read it all the info is online and you can take each test twice. overall, a good and easy choice

I took MUL2010 as an online course for the GEP, and it wasn't that bad. You're only graded on tests and writing about music from the module. He seems really caring and he was fast to respond to emails. It could be boring to some since it's old music, but as long as you read the material and do the practice questions you'll pass.

The class is pretty easy if you read the textbook and take notes. There's a lot to memorize for the test, but it's easy if you actually read all of the textbook chapters and take notes on them. There's a test every 2 weeks which is just based on all that module's chapters and a listening journal which is just 150 words and pretty easy to write.

One of the easiest classes! There are only 7 modules, you have a test and listening journal for each module. Tests are timed but you get two chances to take them and all of them are straight from the textbook. He sends reminders over email so you always know when things are due. Perfect if you want to work at your own pace. No final or midterms.

The TAs basically did all the grading. Look at the syllabus and if you have a conflict, just drop the class. He won't work with you and he makes it clear in the syllabus. Easy A. You will have to buy an access code for the book. He is very responsive to technical issues which is great. I recommend this class.

Pretty simple GEP. Grade is completely based on the module tests and listening journals. The tests are pretty easy, but the listening journals can be difficult to get a 100 on if you don't cover all the criteria excessively. Lots of reading but definitely doable if you space it out. Not much interaction with professor unless you have questions.

As long as you do his assignments he is an easy A for any online course. He gives you plenty of time so you just need to keep up with the material. None of it was difficult, just pay attention to what he wants and you're all good.

Took the class for Summer-A. Read the book! Take the quizzes! Turn in assignments early to get extra credit when available. Simple. Nothing to it. Professor is communicative enough to which he leaves no question unanswered. Do the work, and you'll pass.

Prof is very communicative. No lectures; only module work. This course is straight forward: every week read some chapters, do test, then write some paragraphs about music. Pretty easy class, and the course (or should I say, the textbook) was actually interesting/engaging to me.

Not hard at all. His assessments are based on the end of chapter quizzes in the textbook. All are open book too! Got a 100% on the listening journal (average was a 104%); he's not a tough grader + gave EC if you turned it in early. SUPER easy class during summer, 7 assessments + 1 listening journal. Finished with an A+. Don't hesitate, TAKE HIM

This professor is so worth it when it comes to filling out your GEP requirements. The class consisted of about 7 quizzes and 1 listening module. Everything was based word for word on the book and all you really needed to study was the practice quizzes at the end of each chapter. If you look deep into the textbook some parts are pretty interesting.

You have two weeks to do a journal and a assessment. All the answers are in the textbook. Just know how to write the journals with musical words and how he likes, and you will be fine. The class was pretty easy for me. There is 7 assessments and 6 journals for the semester. Just do the work, on time, bc he won't accept late work.

Prof. Gennaro is amazing! There are 7 module assessments and 6 listening journals and you get a week to do both. You get two attempts on each assessment but they are super easy and are also open notes. The listening journals are very simple and he provides an example and a rubric. 100% recommend.

I know nothing about music and thought the course was fairly easy. Definitely recommend for a GEP. Professor always communicated with us, so you always know what to be working on. You get two weeks for each module which consists of one listening journal and an assessment. As long as you read the textbook, you'll do fine!

You could read the textbook and take the quizzes at the end of the chapter and be fine. There was only one writing assignment from what I remember. I took this summer A and finished with an A. Online course and textbook had to be purchased for around $60-$70 through Oxford University Press. Dr. Gennaro does no lectures, must learn everything from textbook. TA's grading on listening journals is inconsistent, module exams are very difficult. There are 7 modules (7 exams, 6 journals). 1 opportunity for extra credit. Had to take for GEP.

The professor is nice and constantly checks in with students and uses YellowDig to bring students together to discuss the class. Overall, the work is pretty easy because it is verbatim from the textbook and the Overviews in modules.

Since it was an online class, I didn't have much contact with him. However, he would send out weekly announcements so that we knew what we needed to complete within the week. It is a lot of reading, note taking, writing assignments, and quizzes, but they aren't too difficult as long as you read the textbook.

Easiest class I have ever taken. All of the assignments come straight from the oxford quizzes. you are guaranteed a 100% if you use those. I only needed this for my last gen ed and it was such a breeze. Easy A, Easy A, EASY A!!

This course was super easy! There wasn't many assignments, but the ones that were given came straight from the textbook. I got an A!! Definitely take this course!

The class is very manageable for an online class and the topics that are covered are interesting. The textbook for the class is an eBook that is easy to navigate through.

I took this class in summer b of 2023 and I was quite surprised at how simple the course was. There were 6 tests (MC + T/F) and 1 listening journal response. The tests are based on the end of chapter quizzes from the textbook and are open-note and open-textbook. Dr. Gennaro provided weekly updates via Canvas announcements that were very helpful.

Easy A, took this class online while I was in Europe. The last assignment was an essay of 350-450 words on our favorite 2 music pieces from the textbook + he gave extra credit if turned in early.

Class is very straight forward. 7 exams & 6 listening journals that are 250-300 words each about the music from that module. I missed an exam and still got a B but if you don't have a doctors note he will not let you make it up or have it excused. Other than that I would recommend.

It was honestly an easy class. Throughout the whole semester there weren't that many assignments. However if you wanna get good grades on the tests, you genuinely do have to go through the text book. No late work taken whatsoever. The listening journals are easy and usually just your opinion. there were like 1 test and 1 essay every 2 weeks.

I don't know why people should rate this class any less than a 5... this class is so easy 😭Open book quiz once a week along with a writing journal that you can voice your opinions on because music is so subjective... Take this class if you can. Nice professor as well and you do have to pay for the textbook, but its an easy A+, like extremely easy

Very easy to get writing credit (GRW). Every two weeks, there is an open-book exam and a 250 word discussion due. The exam is easy enough with the textbook and the discussion is always "compare these two musical pieces using musical terminology and your own opinions". You don't need a background in music, it is lots of older era music.

A manageable class with straightforward assignments. Doing the textbook readings and using helpful study tools like Unstuck study can make this an easy A. The professor has a strict syllabus, but is generally a nice guy.

Satisfies the GEP writing requirement and the papers are very short and simple, 250 words with very lenient grading. You won't be interacting with the professor much, though he's helpful when needed. The main problem is the textbook reading and exams. Thankfully they are open book because it's a lot to take in, especially with note taking.

Overall fine. Very intense demeanor but grading is very straightforward. Textbooks provided. MUH I and II, STUDY for tests; study guides in modules are very clear.

This class is very easy overall; I got a 100% on every assignment and averaged a 94% on the tests. Just do the reading and keep up with the 1 assignment and 1 quiz every two weeks, and you'll be fine.

I took this class for Semester A and was pleasantly surprised by the ease. Every week, one quiz was assigned, and at the end of the course, a project was required. Just read the chapters and take notes, and you'll be fine. Very straightforward.

Professor Gennaro was awesome. The first day of class he made everyone at ease, and it was super fun because he always made sure to engage everyone. He is very lecture heavy, but everything is open note so it's not hard at all. Would definitely take his class again.

Very easy GEP credit. It is just unfortunate that the textbook is so shoved upon you. If you can access another copy then it'll work because there's no integrated homework but many of the test questions are based on things that are just opinions from the book.

The class was easy, and tests and quizzes were taken directly from the textbook. The final project was also enjoyable. Professor Gennaro seems like a very genuine guy who enjoys what he does!

easy class overall, easy assignments too. exams and quizzes are not face recorded. however make sure you really know what your stuff before you take the exam, as there are audio files included that you need to decipher. but, if you can get past that (which was very easy) youll be fine. easy class, great professor.

I took this class over the summer so it was a lot of information in a shorter format, but he made it easy to understand and was willing to answer questions when people asked, even in a lecture hall. Don't be afraid to ask questions or email him, but he doesn't post his slides so I'd go to class for notes

Honestly, he was an amazing and fun guy! I was kind of scared at first because of what some people were saying but if you pay attention for the most part it is easy to pass. He was also very funny in my opinion. Just get things done by the due date and you should be golden.

Took this in the fall online, and there are 2 assignments (a quiz and a listening journal, which is just a paragraph or 2) that are due every other week for the entire semester. Final is not cumulative either, just the last module.

I took this class online but I appreciated how clearly he listed all of the assignments and what he expected from us in each one. You would get about two weeks to read the assigned sections in the textbook, take a test on it which you get two attempts on, and write about pieces of music. Not too difficult even for people who nothing about music.
