We had alot of group work.
very much into his own last name. anybody with a color for a last name will be singled out, but not in a good or bad way. feedback is useful, but he spends more time explaining the joke trying to get a laugh than he does actually telling the joke.
Terrible teacher. He grades more on how much he likes you than on how much you really know.
never knew what was going to be on quizes or tests
Excellent teacher, if you are not a slacker idiot who does not want to have to think. Challenging but well worth it!
The coolest person in St. George. His teaching style is awesome, he makes everything clear and understood. His ECON class changed my life.
I was told that this guy was "Mean Green" I don't think so. I really ejoy this class, its going to be loads of fun. I'm here to stir the pot too.
The hardest teacher and class in the State of Utah. I swear and so will anyone else who took that class.
He was the easiet A i have ever gotten all you had to do was write what he said to write... as for the grading you just had to go to his office and ask a few questions and he would tell you how to get an A... GREAT TEACHER... although the first day was intimidating... in the end it wasnt that hard of a class
Very unhelpful and he seemed to have a thing against students that he percieved as "rich"! If you were from Bloomington then flush your grade down the toilet. His apathy outweighed his ability to teach the subject.

Lot's and lot's of reading. Be prepared!
His tests had nothing to do with anything. He assigned so much reading that it was impossible to read it all. Unless, you don't have a life! I recommend you find someone else to take History from!
This teacher has two sets of test going at once. One from reading chapters and the other from readings printed off his website. Neither had anything to do with what he talked about in class. He refused to answer questions after class. I suggest taking this class from another teacher if you want to enjoy your semester.
My biggest grievance with the class was that the class lectures did not cover the same material as the tests. Also, between a paper, group presentation, and frequent tests and quizzes, this class is way too much work for a 1100 class.
Terrible teacher! I received a C+ on my midterm for "not enough information", then received a C+ on my final for writing "to much information." Although I has the highest grade in the class in all others areas. He is inconsistent and does not lecture and test on the same thing. He is unwilling to answer questions outside of class.
This guy doesn't care about teaching students. He doesn't make it easy to ask questions. I think he is nothing more than a jerk
There is no doubt that it is a difficult class, but it is not impossible. Mr. Green expects exellence, which is not unreasonable. The key to his class is figureing out a study system. For instance the list of terms, take those to class and fill them out as he explains. Also make a study group and have each person specialize in a section & teach it
Partly hard but definitely entertaining. Just skim the chapters before the test and you'll do fine(also do the practice Q's from the book's website). All the test questions come form the manufacturer. Don't forget to find the answers to the quiz questions he posts on his site. This class is a no brainer if you get the quiz answers and study a bit.
two books: we the people & taking sides. quizes about every two weeks questions are available from website. tests one to two a month on we the people none of which is gone over in class at all. exams are essay and you must remember everything he talked about and how it fit into his lecture. polisci major=great class. GEN Ed= dont wast your time.
You think he's a good professor, until you see how he grades. He believes that everyone should be English majors, and is very critical on how much you actually "learned" in class. Take my advice and take Political Science from the other Professor on campus, he's nicer and it's easier all while learning the same exact thing.Trust me, I know 1st hand
This is a very difficult class, but you will learn a lot! Tests every 3-4 weeks out of the main text. Quizzes every other week out of 'taking sides'. Final and MT are on his lectures. My best advice is print out the Final Exam sheet and write any possible essays as they come up in class, then you'll have them done for the final and midterm.
First off, Green does not cover ANY of the 5 tests in class. Must read the chapters in the book multiple times to do well on tests. The mid term and final are the only things that get tested on his lectures, which are both essays. About two quizes a month. A really difficult class for me!
I actually liked this professor. He definitely knows what he is teaching and how to teach it. One of my favorite things about him is that he is one of the few history teachers that actually does have a sense of humor, which I found quite amusing. The only students that didn't like him were the ones who didn't put out any effort in the class.
To get an easy B in the class you have to: 1. Ace all the weekly 3 question quizes. 2. Ace your final. To ace the final print of the list of possible essays and write detailed notes on the subjects he discusses in class. Trust me do this and you'll get a B. I didn't ace all the quizes and i failed every test but i aced the final and got a C+
This guy really loves what he is doing and I feel that is very important in a prof. I studied more for this class than any other class I have ever taken, however managed to get a B in the class (one of the only B's I've ever gotton). Moral of the story this guy rocks but is extremly difficult!
I has this professor for three weeks till i switched out to a better teacher. All his lectures went to a five point quiz and the test you took was all on reading. The way this class is set up makes the teacher useless. All you do is read and test on what you read doesn't make sense to me. The teacher is pretty nice though
This teacher lecture the entire time for a five point quiz and all the tests are on reading countless pages from your text book. The teacher is really not needed because all you really need to do is read and take the tests. The teacher is pretty nice though.
Professor Green is awesome!! The class definitely requires a lot more effort than most other classes, and sometimes it can be hard to get a straight answer out of Green, but he definitely loves what he teaches and knows it really well! He's really funny and will love you if you laugh at his jokes and suck up major! Definitely not easy, but worth it
I have never disliked a professor as much as I dislike this man. He is something else! I wish someone would have warned me about how UNFAIR and EGOTISTICAL he is! RUNNNN FROM GREEN! You will thank me :D
Grades on essays and if you aren't a class favorite you won't get a good score. I went to every class, studied my brains out and still only managed a D in this class. I was an AP English student (4.0) and my essays weren't up to par for him. He thinks making his class impossible makes him special, but really he's just a horrible teacher.
Very boring. He requires quite a lot out of his students. He thinks his study guides are helpful but they are not at all. He gives you over 100 subjects to study then picks 6 of them to put on the final.
I loved this class. It was one of my favorite classes I have taken. Mr. Green is a great teacher and allows you to really learn and comprehend things on your own. If you have a really closed mind you'll probably hate the class.
If you absolutely love history, reading for hours about it every week and don't mind be lectured to, take this class. I was bored in class, couldn't pass the quizes no matter how much I studied and my essays were never good enough. But he is a nice guy and wants his students to learn.
Mr. Green was the best teacher from dixie state. The way he taught allowed you to not only learn from the textbook, but also current issues in politics. His lectures were interesting and he never needed notes to teach. Make sure to go and meet him because he will give you tips on how to do well and also he is a nice guy to get to know.
Very demanding course. Tests are in essay form and are graded unfairly. Journal of possible questions on tests takes up too much of your time because you need a large word count to get a good grade. Chapter Tests are based on the book which he doesn't even discuss in class. Why even bother using a book if you aren't going to teach from it??
very demanding class. He seems intimidating during lectures, but he is a very nice and accommodating man if you go meet with him during office hours. High use of the classroom textbook (which we don't really talk about in class) all of the outside reading (which is TONS) has very little to do with what he lectures on in class. Great class!
I relieved to see other students struggled with the same things as I did. I respect him as an instructor, he is well spoken and a good person. But the testing was ridiculous, timed tests and the exams were very difficult due to the fact that they were in essay form and difficult to meet his expectations.
POLS 1100 is an intro class, but it's up in the 2000 level in its difficulty. "Taking Sides" is meant to be studied outside of class on your own, then a quiz with class discussion following. All in-class lecturing and reading from the other book, as well additional readings are what you are tested on. Essays are more demanding, but you learn more.
Lots of textbook use that is not covered in class. Reading is very intense and time-consuming. Tests are based solely on the book, and you can use the book when taking your tests. Papers are very easy to write, he tells you in class what should go into them. He normalizes the grades to it's easy to get an A. Overall a great teacher!
He is a great teacher. He really knows the information. His class is definitely not easy but its challenging and I found his exams to be actually fun. I studied for over a week on each of them but I learned so much. My favorite teacher at Dixie.
Difficult exams and quizzes, but this guy knows his stuff. I loved his classes I took from him and recommend him to anyone who actually wants to learn about American Government and Political Science.
How to pass Hist 1700 with Green. 1. Use his test prep to your advantage. 2. Pre-write all the Essays in individual lil blue books prior to taking the mid/final. 3. Read the book twice 4. Tape record his lectures since his mid/final are based on the lecture material ONLY! 5. Don't use material from the book on the mid/final, he will mark you down
Summer History 1700 was fun easy and lectured were fun due to the fact we would tie them with modern politics. Highly recommend him
Kind of boring. Easy quizzes on issues. Tests on textbook are very hard. Midterm and final are okay as long as you study.
Mr. Green is very passionate on his subject. He seems to be very well-read, because he REALLY knows what he is talking about. He's pretty punny too which is a plus. The debates in class are really fun. He's my favorite professor. I would definitely recommend him!
A few of my classmates thought the tests were hard, but all you have to do is write down what he tells you to write down. Really, it's that simple. I got a b+ and I don't like politics. He's a good teacher.
This was a tough class. At the end of the semester we had to do a 12 page paper, I understand for a higher up class but this class was just for a general. Graded really hard on the papers.
Terrible class and the teacher is even worse. AVOID TEACHER AND CLASS AT ALL COSTS.
The class is like trying to drink from a fire hose. Massive amounts of homework, weekly quizzes and nightmarish final exams. Wasn't extremely helpful during office hours, and instructions were often unclear. Don't take this class unless you're up for a BIG challenge.
Professor Green is Legit. Most professors at Dixie teach like a high school teacher. Professor Green makes sure you know the material at a University level. Be sure you have the time to do the work, but if you study you will be rewarded fairly. Also, he is incredibly objective. You never can guess his personal beliefs or biases. Highly recommended.
I thoroughly enjoyed this class and I enjoyed Professor Green as a teacher. This class was one of the hardest I've taken but if you read the books and take notes in class you're almost guaranteed an A. He is very clear about what he wants from the midterm and final. He is helpful when you go into his office and is an overall cool guy.
Sometimes these comments make me wonder why on Earth so many kids at Dixie actually sign up to go to college. OH NO, he made me study and did not praise me when I was a complete failure for being lazy! DSU students, GROW UP OR DROP OUT, Green is an AMAZING prof and this was the best class/instructor I have had at Dixie!
Do Not i repeat do not take this class your life will be a living hell... there are other teachers for this course make sure you take them and not this class
I agree
Mr. Joe Green is extremely intelligent. He has majored in English and Political Sciences. His class is somewhat difficult but he means well and wants students to do well and participate in class discussions. I would take his course again.
Class is tough. go to every class. and take the prequizes. if you take it with a friend its easier. overall i wouldnt recommend him if you are looking for a easy class. its medium hard class. but he will help you. midterm and final are written essays. i never read a book its just for the quizzes but he has prequizzes you can take twice
Mr. Green is extremely intelligent and has clearly done extensive research on all subject areas he teaches. If you aren't interested in working hard in order to educate yourself then do not take this class. If you do all of the assignments and go to class, you will be able to succeed. Mr. Green is very specific on what he wants out of you.
Prof. Green knows his stuff and is eager to share that knowledge. The papers seem tough but he has an extreme abundance of resources and guides available for any of his classes. Those who complain of difficultylack of clarity are those who failed to use the resources provided. Take the help he offers and it is a cake-walk for a grade.
Good teacher, very knowledgeable and humorous--but his quizzes were tough, and the exams I despised. Thorough reading of the novels is needed to pass quizzes (NO skimming), and content for exams MUST ORIGINATE SOLELY from the lectures--take REALLY good notes in class, you'll need it. Grading system seems to work in the student's favor, fortunately.
Did everything he asked on midterm quiz and he still failed it.
Mr. Green is a good teacher, and if you go to class every day you should do alright. However, there is a lot of reading and his tests are extremely hard. He does grade on a fairly generous curve though, and his lectures are interesting. Also, the class debates are fun.
If you like working very hard and having hard tests, then this is the class for you! Professor Green is very intelligent, but his expectations are too high. the midterm and final were unreasonably hard. Two 5 paragraph essays, 3 "short" responses,(prompts were given when test opened) timed for 90 min, was the final. Good luck.
He looks intimidating at first, but when you actually talk to him he's really nice. His lectures are full of interesting info and you will come out of the class knowing your stuff. As long as you follow his instructions, it's really difficult to get a poor graded. I liked this professor.
The directions for the papers literally give you the format for how you're supposed to write them. As long as you follow those, you'll be find. So easy a caveman could do it! Lectures are interesting. He REALLY knows what he's talking about. Make sure to take the practice quizzes for his tests.
He gives you the option to basically make up your midterm if you didn't study hard enough. Also, class debates were fun!
If you aren't majoring in business, I don't recommend you take any of his classes.
His class was challenging, but I learned more than I've ever learned in any other class. If your at college for an education, not just a piece of paper, professor Green is the way to go.
Good class and he obviously knows his stuff, but the class is really difficult. Midterm and final are from his lectures, weekly quizzes are from one textbook, and monthly tests are from another textbook. I would not recommend this class unless you're truly invested in working for your grade.
If you're not a reader then don't take this class. His tests are very hard because: 1. He expects the wording his way (not your way). 2. They are all long essays and short answers. He offers one 10 question quiz a week from reading 100 pages of your book. I probably learned a lot more about his grudge against Donald Trump rather than economics.
Very unenjoyable difficult class.
He's impossible to please. Half of our final was an essay. First of all, the assignment was completely unclear. So I went into his office hours on several different occasions for help of the essay. He helped me, but after all of that I got a 66% on the final so if thats the score I got with his help I can only imagine what the other students got.
His grading seems harsh but you have to read the guidelines given and he breaks down exactly how he wants your essays formatted. You have to read and study but if you try, you will learn a lot! It's not an easy A by any means but his class has a lot to offer if you put in your work.
He's grading was very harsh and inflated essays take up a large chunk of the grade. If you don't word your answers exactly they way he said in class you will fail. the books are only relevant to the pop quizzes but not really the class. I would recommend taking a different class if you can.
Went in and tried to get help from him and instead of him help me understand a topic, he told me I would struggle on the midterm. Ridiculous.
Professor Green shouldn't be teaching political science. Extremely rude, demonstrated exceeding levels of ignorance. Don't take his classes.
Fully half of all class time dedicated to taking/going over quizzes, other half lectures. 100+ pages of reading & essentially mandatory "practice" quizzes to succeed comes out to 6-7+ hrs/wk. One of the assigned books was all sociology and the least interesting or useful book I have ever read. Only good if you're VERY interested in the material.
His midterm and final are ridiculous. He cares more about the way you word your thesis statement than whether or not you know the material. You have 90 min on the final to write 2 essays and 3 short responses. It is also very confusing. He does grade on a curve which was very helpful. Does not use Canvas, he has an excel sheet instead.
the multiple choice part of the tests are straight from the book, and he never goes over that material in class. The essay part of his tests are based on his lectures, if you use any outside knowledge he docks you. So you have to go to class and really read the book.
Mr. Green is a really funny teacher, and usually had me laughing every class. Tough teacher though, you really have to put in some effort if you want to get a good grade. The only homework is reading the textbook, and you WILL have to read the entire 900 page textbook if you want to do good on the tests (seriously). Also you NEED to take notes.
Hands down the worst professor I have ever had. His way of teaching was awful and his tests were the hardest ever. We started out with around 30 students in my class that semester, but there was about 6-7 after midterms. DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HIS COURSES!
His lecture's don't make very much sense and it's hard to follow his train of thought.
There was always an assignment, quiz, or test coming up in his class. He talks about the mid term and final material in classes, but you have multiple test and quizzes throughout the semester that are based off material you have to read in the TWO textbooks he assigns. If you want sanity, dont take his class, Lol.
Yes, his class is difficult and you have to study and work for your grade, but Prof. Green might be the best teacher at DSU. His grading material is very clear. He is very invested in his work and really knows his stuff. He is funny and went to great lengths to make his curriculum. You will learn a lot from this class is you actually do the work.
Professor Green's class was challenging, but also liberating. I would say this is probably the hardest class I've taken in my major field, mainly because I wasn't familiar with International Relations what so ever. Professor Green made the topic interesting and engaging throughout the semester. Follow his instruction to the T and you will be fine.
His class is difficult- only if you dont go to class & take good notes. He is very intelligent, & he wants you to succeed. He tells you exactly how to take his midterm and final. He is fun to listen to & I loved the debates. You will need to read the book to do good on the tests in the testing center.
Professor Green's exams are ridiculous and his grading criteria is unclear and INCONSISTENT. I did everything right on the first written exam but was surprised when I received a D. I went to his office to go over the test and he immediately changed it to an A. Graded with the same criteria both times.
Professor Green is quite strict and very liberal, except for his views of a free market economy. I would not recommend asking questions or saying anything that would lead him to believe you are conservative. His grading does become a bit more harsh on that basis, though I don't know whether he really thinks about it or not.
The biggest problem I had was him was that he doesn't use Canvas's grading and it makes it very unclear and difficult to figure out your overall grade. He also gets off topic a lot when giving examples to the point that I would forget what he was giving an example for. His tests are very hard and there is a lot of reading and writing involved.
This professor is very difficult to work with. His office hours are extremely short(only 30 minutes at a time) and he often cancels them anyways. His grading technique is extremely complicated and it is difficult to determine what grade you have or what grade you will have. Honestly this class has been my least favorite thing ever.
Prof. Green was by far my least favorite teacher, we had a quiz every Thursday on the books we read for the class. The quizzes are so random, they have no background information from Green or what he wants you to specifically study. Everyone transferred out leaving me and about five students by the end of the term if that says anything.
Professor Green is the most narcissistic teacher I have ever had. He gives quizzes based off the assigned books but the questions are very difficult and the way he prepares you for them is by giving you a practice test with 60 questions and 6 of those questions are on the quiz. The other 4 questions are on things discussed in class which is a lot.
Here's the thing, Professor Green is an awesome person, but the way he teaches is ridiculous. On tests, you have exactly the amount of time required for somebody who knows everything to complete the test, on his written tests, you have to learn an entirely different style of writing that honestly makes no sense or else you will miserably fail.
professor greens class was way harder than I anticipated. History of Economics was unnecessarily difficult. The hardest parts were his quizzes and exams.
This class is really difficult, so prepare to work. Started with over 30 people in my class, ended with 9. There is a quiz every week with lots of reading and work outside of class. His tests are also very strange. But, I felt like you can learn a lot in the class if you put in the work.
He just isn't on top of things. You never know what your grade is until he sends you an update email because none of his grades are on canvas. He's older and has a hard time making clear sentences while lecturing. Your grade is also almost 100% compiled from your quiz and test scores. one quiz a week.
Great professor, really enjoyed the material and lectures. There was a good amount of reading, but nothing TOO crazy. Loved professor Green.
He delivers no value whatsoever. Teaching is not his strong suit and I wish he'd just retire already. Learned nothing from him even though I am quite interested in the subject he was supposed to teach. Doesn't care about students, but just comes to campus, does his thing, and leaves.
DO NOT TAKE PROFESSOR GREEN! He is so strict, and a narcissistic, misogynistic old man. He has a quiz every week based on the 120 pages you are supposed to read the week prior on information that is pointless for the curriculum. You never know what your grade is because he doesn't post them. It feels like his goal is to make you fail. Worst class!
Sit at the front of the class, actively engage and force yourself to be there. Reread the notes, ask questions. READ THE MATERIAL, also he gives an exam guide, use that like it's the BIBLE. Take heed to what he says because it will determine your success in his class. Overall great professor to have once!
He knows about what he talks about. His lectures are interesting if you are willing to listen. He does his best to connect with students despite his age. He uses 2 textbooks, 1 for debates and 1 for reading quizzes. I recommend using a quizlet for those. Overall I learned a lot and had a good time, but was still more work heavy than necessary.
Worst grading! Old, grades only a few things lies about grading criteria on tests. Would not recommend at all!
