Cares about his subject and can make the students care too.
I hate science, but Professor Haverly has made it very interesing...and Bearable!
AWESOME TEACHER! VERY FUN!

Very humorous person! You'll love him!
Professor Haverly will amaze you with his knowledge in this environmental class. You will be exposed to many different views on major environmental issues. This class is a must take for your life science requirement. He is also very helpful.
A must take if you are interested in Environmental science. Haverly is awesome. Course is a little tough, but lots of EC is available if you need it.
You MUST take this course. Joe Haverly is one of the rare breed of teachers whose passion for his subject comes through so strongly(while not being preachy), that it makes the student care too. Excellent prof, helpful, clear,a DEFINITE recommend to anyone
Fun guy. Unfortunately, I think it's sad that most of his students miss his points. But he's a great guy, and I recommend his class to everyone.
Exceptional, young professor. Teaching his passion/ will inspire you to recycle!

Awesome guy, wish i had him for microbiology. If he teaches it that is
Haverly was awesome. Never had a better teacher or a better class. I hate science, but learned to enjoy it and enjoy his class. ive had a lot of teachers, and he's the best. Loved the book Ishamel.
Great Professor, tries to open your mind to different points of views, doesn't try to impose his own
He is an awesome Prof! He has a true passion for teaching and it trully shows. I wasn't so sure about this class but if I could take it again I would! The tests were only hard if you didn't study. He actually tries to get to know his students. If you take a class he teaches, take him!
Joe is an excellent teacher. He is passionate about what he teaches, and if you involve yourself, you will most definetly change your perception on the environment. Only downside is that his class lacks a lot of 'hard' science, if you are looking for that sort of thing.
He is a great teacher, but his assistants in the lab were jackasses, he was verry helpful and was willing to work with you to make sure you understand the material. I would defiantely recomend him.
Joe Haverly is GOD!!!

Joe is a really great teacher, if you ever get a chance to take one of his classes do it. He really tries to get everyone in the class involved and those students who seem the least interested he will probe them the most (asking them questions and what they think). He really tries to relate to each student individually. If you have any questions at all he will jump at the chance to help you. He just wants everyone to learn and helping the environment is one of his passions, he justs wants you to see.
Joe is just an all around funny nice guy. I enjoy going to his class and learn a lot about life. Not only does he help us with enviromental issues..but helps us look deeper into ourselfs to find the real solutions to real problems that we face. I would recomend this teacher FOR SURE!
IF you are young impressionable and ready to believe everything at face value...then take the class.**** IF you have done prior studies in Env.Bio and are considering it as a field, he will only cause you to shake your head. He is openminded as long as you agree with him.
He was a great teacher. I had him online and i learned a lot. I thought it was a pretty easy class. i got a B but i didnt try that hard, if i would have tried harder i would have got an A. Take if him you have a chance.
Awesome teacher all around.
he is a good teacher just make sure when you have a test you study because sometimes they are tricky
Joe's one of the best professors at RVC. I'm a BIO major & really enjoyed his class. He makes the material interesting, relevant, and easy to learn. If you need the science credits, take this class-it's impossible to fail it! As a bonus, he's a super nice guy and cute as a button!
Joe is an AWESOME teacher. His class was hard, but very enjoyable. The only reason you wouldn't pass is because you didn't put in the effort. He is very helpful and will answer any questions you have. I wasn't all that excited about this class, but I learned and retained SO much more than I expected. I highly recommend him!
He was so nice and helpful. I really enjoyed his class. Plus, for a balding 30 something year old he is very hot. You'll enjoy this class even if science is not your fortay. Oh and he teaches kickboxing too, so take that if you can!
gAVE HARD TESTS
Joe is very ****ed...He only likes the young hot chicks and only talks to them in class....DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT TO PUKE WATCHING HIM FLIRT WITH 18 YR OLDS!!! BARF!
hes a pretty energic teacher....his class isn't too bad just makes sure you study for the test!
I thought Joe taught a great Cardio Kickboxing class. He is tough and will put you into shape. As for flirting with the "18 year olds" in my class they seemed to annoy him the most. He doesn't want lazy people taking his class and he will tell you that!
Awesome teacher, be prepared to do a little bit of work but he is super awesome. And very attractive.
Haverly is an interesting teacher. He discusses many controversial topics and gives difficult exams. He pushes critical thinking as well as class participation.I would recommend taking his class.
Haverly's own agenda frequently interfered with the curriculum. The information discussed in class had little to nothing to do with the final exam. The final asked questions about topics that were not even in our text book let alone discussed in class. Fun guy but uses the classroom as a soap box instead of a learning space.
I enjoyed Mr. Haverly's class and appreciate his passion for the environment, making the class interesting. Just because a teacher has spunk and enjoys their job does not mean they use the classroom as a soapbox. He gets students active in the environment and encourages volunteering, who ever said that was a bad thing?
Haverly is a great guy, and Bio 106 is the easiest A you can get. He is very passionate about the enviornment and what he does. Very easy to get along wih but can be a bit closed minded. This class was so easy it felt like a remedial high school class, but I did learn a great deal and opened my eyes to some new concepts.
Mr. Haverly is awesome. Super helpful. His labs can be a bit tedious and long. He likes you to write alot on the definitions and such. If you want to pass his class you should definetly attend each one.
Re: online class--Great environ science teacher but take the class in person, not online version. Turn in assignments on time (by midnight) or you will get a ZERO! Quizzes were very hard (IMHO) and final was 100 pt mult choice. Lots of weekly work to do; just stay on top of everything. Personally I thought his class was pretty tough. Good guy tho.
He is a very intellegent, passionate and fun professor. I took A&P, which is not a cake walk, and he made the class bearable. I ended up with an "A"...And He is VERY HANDSOME for a balding older guy!!!
Enrolled in Lecture and Lab. Easy-going. If called on in class, dont expect "I dont know" to work. Rarely uses textbook, which can be found on reserve in library and does help to clarify. Majority of information is presented in lecture! Expect to "think outside the box". This is not vocabulary regurgitation - everything in your own words.Recommend!

argh, where 2start-class was easy, but mostly filled w/busy work that he dsnt even grade. i guess if ur looking 4an easy A this is what ur looking4. Didnt like that we had 2read a book on evolution/religion&try2 relate it 2class-it didnt at all. Hes unclear about a lot of things, due dates, etc. ok teachr but is cocky&thinks his opinions r always rite
He is nice enough as a person, but definitely has a tendency towards preaching. It's nice to see that he's so passionate about the environment, but god help you if you have a dissenting opinion. Should you actually say something that's in conflict with his own beliefs be ABLE to defend your position or he WILL make u look like an idiot in class
When I took his class he seemed very open to my views and beliefs, and did not at all seem offensive. He made it very easy to understand and I barely studied and still got an A. The content is easy to learn and he's a good teacher. I don't know what everyone else is whining about
Prior to this class, I hated all science classes; they were boring! However, after taking Mr. Haverly as a professor, he made this class my favorite class this semester! He was very clear in his instructions & his lectures were always interesting! He got me very interested in the topics covered in class! Def one of the best professors I've had!
He's Hott that's for sure. You will actually learn if you take this class!
Great teacher and a fun class. He is very responsive to questions and is available for to help. There is a lot of work to this class but you learn alot. Some of the offsite event requirements are fun, too. Highly recommend his class!
Extremely good teacher. He really cares about what he's talking about and he wants the students to understand and care too. Even if you don't think you'll like the class, you'll still learn a lot and get something out of it. Easily the best class I have ever taken. I recommend him 100%.
Teacher is very into his ways and not open minded, if you need help he will just send you to the text book, would never take him again
do not take this class if u don't have internet. all the tests quizs everything online. doesn't post them expects u to be on it all the time. tests are messed up as u can't access them to take them. you have to miss other classes in attempts he actually does his job.
Awesome teacher, very passionate and makes stuff really interesting. You enter the class not expecting anything and leave with really useful knowledge. Became one of my favorite classes this semester.
Haverly, is very invested in his class and making his students feel like they can talk to him. He is a very fun and interactive professor, and he cares a lot about his students. He is one of the best professors I have ever had. I highly recommend this class if you have an interest in the environment.
Professor Haverly is helpful and gives his lessons in a clear, engaging, concise and sometimes humorous style. He insists on removing all doubt over course material. He is an exceptional teacher who is there for his students' success. A passionate teacher is a rare find and Haverly is definitely that guy who loves his job! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
He was very helpful and passionate about his class. I would recommend this class to everyone, regardless of interest in bio.
Definitely take him if you can! He is very educated in the subject matter and keeps his lectures even on any arguments. Before I took his course I was not into science at all. He changed that for me, which is a plus. Lectures on a PowerPoint, but will make side-notes on the whiteboard. Tests are easy if you read through the packet and book.
He is a really nice guy, he is also very interesting but his tests are ALL ONLINE and VERY DIFFICULT! If you are NOT a good test taker I would NOT take his class.
do not recommend this teacher. he isnt very helpful and doesnt explain anything. not much homework, but quizzes every week.
I took the three week summer class with him and it was very time consuming. There is a lot to go over and get done in a small amount of time. He is a great teacher. He teaches it to you so you understand it and remember it rather than giving you a study guide and figuring it out on your own. He expects everything on time so don't be late. Recommend
The notepackets that he assigns are a pain in the butt, but very helpful. And the tests are literally identical to the practice quizzes. DEFINITELY do the EC, and you'll be good. I would say i put forth a C effort at best, but ended up getting an A in the class. Definitely reccommend! Dont be late too much though cuz he'll dock ur points alot.
Excellent Teacher. Whether you like it or not, you will learn...and maybe even care.
Took this 3 week class in the summer and it was miserable! Does random checks and doesn't check anything he says he's going to. LOADS ON LOADS of busy work and on top of the loads you get stuck reading a stupid book! this man is on a serious power trip DON'T TAKE HIM.
Makes you read about a talking gorilla. Seems to get off topic alot. . . mostly talking about justin beiber. Pretty funny and gives good info when staying on topic. He expects packets to be completed even when they say from class discussion. . . Good Luck!!!!
AWESOME TEACHER !
He is a great teacher
Haverly is a great teacher--if you don't like to think for yourself, that is. He strongly pushes a lib---- agenda by offering e.c. points for checks written to "environmental" organizations. How RVC allows this is unbelievable! As long as you submit to HIM and write what HE wants, you will do well. Free thinkers look elsewhere-You have been warned
Mr.Haverly is a GREAT teacher!! He cares about his students. Very funny. Will never make you feel stupid but make you think a bit more about your question. I RECOMMEND HIM BIG TIME. AWESOME AWESOME TEACHER. HE WAS NOMINATED FACULTY OF THE YEAR 2013 =) thats how awesome
I took the lecture as well as the lab with him and enjoyed them both! 106 is a very interesting class and you can tell he's very passionate about teaching us how to think about life changing practices. I recommend his class to everyone I know that needs to take a science credit. Favorite teacher so far!
Haverly is a very coercive professor, passive-agressive If you write from the right, you're taking on Al Gore; don't expect a good grade. He encourages you to come to his office, yet is as condescending and ambiguous as in class! He is a stickler for grammar, but doesn't know rules himself. Just look at his tests and instructions! "Do as I say..."
Worst teacher & worst tests ever! He isn't trying to teach you, he's trying to trick you to make himself feel smarter. I studied more for this class than any of my other classes & made A's in all my other classes. He encourages meetings, but doesn't reply to emails asking to schedule a time & his office hours are AWFUL! STAY AWAY!
dont buy textbook not even used. You will need to be fluent in suckingup, however, if you take this class. As long as you are willing to sacrifice your beliefs and "play the eco-freak" for 5 mo. you will do find. the enviro. stereotype rings true 4 him. Class room discussions focus on: pot, justin bieber, al gore, your stupidity and his brilliance
He asks you to make sure you're "ready for college experience." The guy talks like he should be at Stanford or Harvard. Can't relate to students. Needs to get off his soap box and stick to sience. I feel like this guy should be in the religion department; he sure adds plenty to hs lectures! Classroom "discussions" are a joke! Run and run fast!!!
Very caring teacher. Willing to go above classroom time to help. Will meet and go over material during office hours. Super understanding. Just a good person. If you are interested in the environment and not just learning a bunch of facts, this is a great class for you.
Haverly is very into what he teaches which I think makes it more interesting for students. He's very nice and clear. Tests are a bit hard but if you actually study I'm sure they would be easier. Makes class very interesting.
Lectures are interesting, he's funny.Either he's trying to be tricky on test questions or they're not clearly written. Doesn't like questions so can be snotty when asked. Some assignments are vague. Was a total jerk when I asked, during office hours, for clarification.
Haverly is a good teacher. He enjoys teaching, which makes the class not boring. He adds humor to the class to make it enjoyable. Great teacher
His class is very interesting and he is entertaining. He's clear about what he expects out of students. Do the terms and note packet. Also, be careful about what you say in class. If you disagree with him he will remind you of his superiority.
Haverly is really a good teacher in general. I wasn't that interested in the class prior to taking it, but he made it interesting. His tests are really specific, make sure you study EVERYTHING. He words things weirdly sometimes, too. He heavily weighs finals, which are cumulative, so make sure you retain the information.
Not very good at explaining things. He refuses to help people in need, doesn't care whether his students fail. "Do not believe the good ratings that he is getting please"
His lectures were good, and all his exams were online. Overall though, the class was VERY annoying in more ways than one. He played 4 or 5 boring movies at the end of the semester, he had problems getting exams to work, his "random note checks" of big packets will kill your grade, etc. This class is WAY too much work outside of class.
He's really funny and entertaining! He tells you exactly what will be due when from day 1 of class. Love!
Professor Haverly is very good at explaining difficult concepts. He had a good energy, even early in the morning and I don't think he expected too much of us! I learned a lot in this class. Study for the final and midterm because I didn't and that dropped my grade down to a B but otherwise the class is pretty easy and works well in the short summer
He is very upbeat, very out of the box. Lots of notes in this class, but they are not graded. Only for you to study from, which I highly recommend. The tests are tough without the notes completely filled out. One big paper due, other than that all assignments are generally easy. Very fun and friendly professor.
Haverly is a good professor, but I didn't like having him for Environmental Biology. He does more preaching than teaching in lectures. The material isn't difficult, but it's so much easier when someone is actually teaching it to you which he really didn't do in this class. A few projects worth a lot, the tests aren't too terrible, open note.
Doesn't answer questions. Picks favorites. Unclear in what his expectations are. Likes to be smarter than you. Likes to remind you that he's smarter than you. Not objective in a subject where objectivity matters. Not very good at teaching the subject. I'd describe him as a *butthole* . Ruins an interestingimportant subject. Do not recommend.
Professor Haverly is one of those professors that you will either love him or hate him. I loved taking his class and learned a lot about a subject I didn't know enough of. His tests are difficult and tricky but if you study hard you will do well. It's not enough to just show up, you need to read the text book and study that study guide.
I'm taking his class online this semester. It is very easy. He gives weekly quizzes worth 10pts, very easy if you fill out the note packet-he tells exactly which pages the questions are from. A few easy exams-25pts. One book review. Always willing to help & sending info on things he feels we might find interesting. Few assign are an easy 2025pts.
Fantastic lecturer. He encourages you to come to his office hours, but is extremely unhelpful & rude when you talk to him 1 on 1. It seems the deeper you get into the semester the worse it gets. When asking for clarity on assignments, he'll tell you to read the instructions, which are vague. Extremely frustrating and stressful. Makes you feel bad.
Haverly is an awesome guy. He's a little harsh as a teacher but you learn to appreciate it. He makes you work for your grade and if you're not good at reading instructions you're screwed. His Bio 106 class is a huge eye opener and I would definitely recommend anyone to take it.
I've taken him 2 times now. It's either hit or miss with this guy. Yes, he does know his stuff but he can kind of be rude about it. Encourages you to ask questions but when you do he will make you feel like an idiot for asking. Can be nice sometimes but he can also be an a hole. You will learn A LOT! But you have to do the work. i barely passed.
i took his class in the fall and had to withdraw because of how unproffessional he was it didnt feel like an environmental science class. he's very pushy with his beliefs and you can feel him judging you like if u bring a water bottle to class he'll make fun. he embarassed me and alot of other students. holmes is much better take him instead
In many of his project instructions he would say "Do a brief overview of _____." Then when I thought I was doing a bit more than brief, I turn it in and get 20pts out of 25 saying it was "A little brief." EXCUSE ME? Annoying much. Too rude and unhelpful.
Haverly is hands down one of the greatest professors. He is extremely inspirational and really cares about his students. He makes the class exciting and entertaining so you actually want to participate. He's tough on students but only because he cares and honestly does want everyone to do well in his class! i HIGHLY recommend his classes!
I'm a student that struggles with science courses and rarely speaks in class. I dreaded this course, but after the first week of class it became the one I looked forward to the most. Mr. Haverly expects you to take away something from his class which involves more effort on your part yes, but that's how you learn anything. GREAT educator.
Haverly's class was extremely informative. Lectures can be pretty boring at times but it depends on the person. This class is a lot of work but if you work hard, read, and participate, you will pass!
Haverly is the most amazing teacher I've ever had! He has a passion for biology and teaches it well. He changed the way I look at the world. He has high expectations but cares about us. If you have a question, the answer is on eagle or in the syllabus, do NOT ask him. He has one book report that is worth a third of the grade, so work hard on it.
A very interesting class and teacher, but the group project was killer. It was worth a third of the grade and was a lot of work, so if you don't get a good group you will have a very hard time. Otherwise a very interesting fun class that wasn't particularly difficult. 20 online quizzes that aren't difficult, and he drops the worst scores.
His empowering lectures made me feel like I could affect positive change regarding environmental issues and convinced me to go into the field. You learn a lot in his class and he is an incredible speaker. Read the text to be covered in class that day before class to be able to actively discuss the topics. He likes students who engage/participate.
The best Professor I have ever had. He is very passionate and knowledgeable about his subject. He is a very respectable guy.
Haverly is very passionate about his teaching and strives to share as much knowledge as possible with his students. He is an amazing teacher and I highly recommend him!
By far the BEST Professor I have ever taken. Not only is he knowledgeable and passionate about the subject, but he also cares about his students. If I had the chance to take him again, I would without even thinking.
Loved this teacher! He's one of the best at Rock Valley
Haverly is honestly the best teacher I have ever had. His lectures are life changing. I think that every prof should teach like him. I recommend any of his classes and I will definitely take most of his classes.
I'm not the type to rate professors but Joe Harverly definitely needs to stop giving life lessons. He makes it clear that he has star students. I spent everyday trying to participate and work hard during class especially during the labs. And every time I he called on me I would give it my 100% effort but it didn't seem to satisfy him. WORST PROFES.
Haverly is an awesome professor who will make you enjoy going to class. I'd recommend him to every first year student.
Best teacher I have EVER had. I hated environmental science in high school but Haverly makes it so fun and interesting. You need to do the chapter outlines and show up for lectures if you want to do good on exams. He's very passionate and his lectures are awesome! Highly recommend him if you want to learn what environmental science really is.
Mr. Haverly is a great person and professor. His lectures are very interesting and you will definitely learn a lot about the environment. Personally, I learned so much from this class and broadened my worldview. He is very supportive and really cares about students. If you have issues with quizzes definitely talk with, that's would be very helpful.
I would highly recommend Haverly's environmental biology class to everyone! It will change your life. He is hysterical and an awesome teacher.
Unless you want to generate heat from your body while in your desk due to being so angry that this professor does not desire to actually teach you the material, do NOT take this course. You will learn few things actually related to biology when attending class. He does not update material and will disappoint you countlessly.
Did not like him at first... Things changed fast... He is funny, respectful, willing to answer all of my dumb questions. He taught me how to learn. He really cares about his class... He wants us to learn. He is passionate about what he is teaching. You do need to study for this one, but he will help
I came into this looking to learn more about the environment. This class is very hard, and the reviews left by previous students were incredibly far off to my experience. He said he was available to help, but to get help you need to know what it is you don't know. I know, sounds confusing, which was my mentality the whole course.
When trying to ask a question on midterm or final he said "I'll let you figure it out." He then proceeded to complain the class did the test wrong. I got a grade of 80 another guy had 84 he got curved to 100 I got curved to 85. Do not ever take Haverly I cannot stress enough. The labs also are almost all busy work that you won't ever need.
Worst teacher I have ever had. Do not take him as your professor. He is arrogant and pushes his beliefs down your throat. He asks questions like "you consider me a good guy right?" And he somehow always connects him being a good guy to his lecture.
Really looks beyond standard text material. Lots of great information from this class.
Come into this class with an open mind. If youre overly critical and arent willing to have your world view altered a bit, you wont enjoy your time in class. Speak up during lectures (he will give many opportunities), youll regret it if you dont. Haverly is a wonderful professor, theres a ton you can learn from him. Hes a little preachy.
Haverly is the most unprofessional professor I have had at RVC. He is rude to students and enjoys making them look stupid in front of the class. He does not provide a grading rubric for assignments or communicate his expectations well, yet expects you to know exactly what he wants. He wastes everyone's time by talking about irrelevant topics.
I've never had a problem with a professor until this one... He was rude to me and many other students in the class. The rudeness made me not want to come to class at all. Not an approachable person. He is not clear on grading criteria. Very sarcastic when it's not the time for it. If he ever teaches this class again, do not take it with him.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!! Heres what youll do for the semester. 4 hard quizzes timed also, a stupid book report about a gorilla. A lecture tour not graded. 2 exams and also a lot of homework. The guy makes you feel like an idiot, hes straight up an ass. Youll regret taking this class.
Joe wastes time by talking about random topics, he said it himself that half of his lectures are bs. The quizes are nothing like the practice ones. You print the note packets to go along w/ the lecture but they do not help to prepare for the quiz. He words is questions & answers very complicated. Most of the vocab is not found in the book.
This teacher shows no mercy for legitimate excuses. The tests are written so youll have to remember everything you learnes before that even if it isnt on the test. This is too hard to do for students that feel like they have to study constantly and cram everything in a few weeks in for one test. Just doesnt help students developmental process
Has no consideration for legit excuses. Nothing is ever good enough. Plays tricks on tests to set you up to fail.
Makes the topics you learn relateable to,you in one way or another. Overall one of my favorite teachers for how he teaches, and just his warm personality.
Bad. For a while I went to class every day but my friend didn't go once. We had a difference of 1% on the midterm. You don't learn anything in class, he just rants about politics which has nothing to do with the environment. Randomly puts students on the spot and makes them feel stupid. Talks about how awesome he is and we should be more like him.
Basically just do the study guide work. He can help a little bit but the content is kinda common sense so it isn't always necessary. Some people have to go to class to understand the content, it just depends on the person. He rants a little bit but he respects different opinions. His lectures are sometimes entertaining though, he is an odd person.
Prof Haverly is a nice person as a teacher but does not really explain any of the information but instead gives his own interpretation of it so you need to be like him in order to pass. No mercy for excuses so don't even try. His quizzes are hard because every answer is identical and based on his own opinion. Too much work for a 1 credit class!
His quizzes dont match anything in the text or PowerPoint so good luck figuring it out! They are timed so be ready to read fast! This class is way to hard to be a 100 level intro class. His expectations are set very high! Be ready to work HARD to pass this course.
Haverly is an amazing and caring teacher. You have to fill out note packets before coming to class and talk/learn about it in class. If you do start slacking, he does offer extra credit outside of class.
Had the material not been as easy as it was, I would be calling out Joe for his ridiculous lectures. They felt more like a spiritual gathering than a learning environment. Nonetheless, it was an easy class with important, interesting material. Get ready to participate in class!
His exams have so many trick questions. Its difficult to prepare for his tests. Overall he is a nice professor though.
I had him my first semester and he was by far my favorite teacher! He made a science class extremely fun, and he gives SO MUCH extra credit. It is a super easy class if you just do the work, turn it in on time and listen in class. The only thing that people should know is that he doesnt take ANY late work. But Id recommend him to anyone!
Prof. Haverly is a hilarious and great guy. I would consider taking him again in the future, but he give 0 extra credit and really refuses to work with a student that is struggling in the class.
Overall Professor Haverly was a very funny guy. He could be tough when it comes to grading and doesnt offer extra credit but continuously offers to help during his office hours if students are struggling. I had him as a long term sub but he tried his hardest to make our Bio 100 class a breeze.
I was taking this class with a different professor and multiple subs that didn't seem to care for our class. Joe came in and saved the day! He is amazing. He does want you be engaged in class. He loves asking questions about the subject and he is always available to help. He honestly is one of the best. He is a very caring teacher.
A lot of reading. LearnSmart took an hour up to 3 hours to do plus homework and a quiz, every week. Covers one chapter per week. Worse part he sets dates for midterm/final that you have to go into the school, any he chooses one day and refuses to work with you on adjustment. Very difficult for those who have other top priorities like children.
Prof. Haverly was a sub for my class last fall! He tents to go of the subject often and his exams are hard. No extra credit what so ever ! Easy to talk to but has some sort of attitude that shows I'm the smart one and it makes you question your pat for Nursing field! Over all I wouldn't take him again .
I took an online version of BIO 106, overall the class wasn't bad. Be excepted to have to go to the campus to take your midterm & final, this is to have you not use notes but people take online classes because they can't to go to the campus. He also requires you to do an activity relating to the class, but will drop you a letter grade if you don't.
I wasn't a fan of Prof. Haverly. His weekly assignments weren't bad, just time consuming. The tests were difficult. I feel like he doesn't really care too much about his students. He required a lengthy assignment that offered no credit, but caused a drop of a letter grade if not done.
Professor Haverly is a great professor who not only cares about his students, but the world as well. Classwork is relatively easy as long as you follow his instructions. Be warned, his tests are difficult as they require comprehension of the course material. As long as you apply yourself, you will be fine.
Really fun and quirky, made me love science even more.
He is not organized, confused and dont know how to teach. Very arrogant and full of himself. I remember when I went to his office, he said you can just drop the class you dont have to come to my class, he also embarrassed me in class with all the conversation we had in is office, he need to be fired.
Very helpful as a professor will do anything he can to help you learn and understand the material. I have started this class with two others and withdrew because of their teaching but Haverly helped me so much I wish he could have been the professor for all of the biology courses. Keep up on notes/study guides he gives you & you'll be prepared.
I loved Haverly! He is one of the most caring professors I have ever had. He made me understand anatomy with a lot of humor and discussion. He taught me the real reason quizlet was made and I appreciate him so much. He loves to interact and get to know his students 10/10 would recommend him for any subject.
Prof. Haverly is awesome. He expects college level work from students, and he won't hold your hand. However, he actually teaches the material, not like some professors who just read from powerpoints. He gives awesome study tips, and genuinely wants you to do well in his class. Be prepared to study, don't skip class, and you'll do great in his clas
I took Haverly for Bio106 last year. Showed up to 2 lectures before I stopped going because he was really full of himself, and it was very clear what his political views were which was very distracting. I only showed up to the tests in the library right after. He tried calling me out in front of the class for not showing up to classes. Ended with B
Professor Haverly is an amazing teacher who really cares for his students. This class was very inspiring, but challenging at times as well. The only thing I was not a fan of is that he calls on people to answer questions instead of raising your hand, that way you ALWAYS have to be engaged during his lecture.
Amazing teacher. Someone who really cares about his students and their well being. As long as you show up, do your homework and study youll get a good grade.
Amazing instructor
Professor Haverly was the best professor I had during my first semester at RVC. He cares so much about his student well-being, he wants to get to know them at a personal level. He is so respectable through the way he gives his lectures, he doesn't reprimand his students to make choices like him. I learned so much from him, a true college professor!
Professor Haverly is such a great person and a funny guy, he makes his students think outside the box and when he talks about environmental science he brings in both sides of the spectrum. The lectures he gives are priceless and very interesting, highly suggest you take his class, you wont regret it.
This prof was very arrogant and didnt really seem to care at all. As my course was online he would reach out to let us know that we can reach out to him and let him know how he can help but in actuality doesn't intend on really helping. Very demeaning in his responses and talks to his students like they are children.
Horrible teacher, likes to start fights with students. Huge ego, takes out life frustration on to students. Would pay extra to avoid him for the rest of my education.
Amazing interesting teacher. Relates to us. Very energetic, cares about you and wants you to pass. I took the lab so you get to go outside and meet off-campus sometimes which is very cool. The things we learned about were very useful.
Workbook is provided. Dont get the Tree Finder until you have to because it isnt required every semester. Show up and take the quizzes and youll do fine.
Professor Haverly is super cool! You can see his passion for the subject in his lectures. He incorporates humor whenever he can and he makes you really assess your lifestyle choices and values. He does expect college level work and gives great feedback! He also has clear guidelines and expectations
4 assignments a week for the online class, a Tuesday RLA, Wednesday reading, Thursday homework, and Friday quiz. Exams were on Sunday nights which I hated because I always forgot. If you read, the assignments are pretty easy. Kind of talks to students like children. Midterm and final are in the testing center, NOTHING like the exams or study guide.
I took Haverlys Environmental science class and lab, at the end of it all I would say he was a decent teacher. He expects you to put in the work and attendance matters in his class so being there is important in order to keep your grade up. I dont like how he got very political but overall decent class.
Overall a great teacher! Science is not my strong suit but in his class if you follow his instructions and do the work youll do fine. I took it online for the summer 1 semester. Also a very important subject for right now I would recommend everyone take environmental science
I took BIO106 online in summer II. Professor Haverly always answered emails in a timely fashion. The course was layed out well for the whole semester. There was no doubt as to when assignments and tests were due. We did have to read a book, but it was actually very interesting! I would definitely recommend Professor Haverly.
It was difficult to take a lab class online, however, Professor Haverly always answered questions by email (I had several)! He gave feedback on the labs, so you could review the concepts to see where you had a problem before taking the lab practical and final. Most of your grade came from those two exams. I would recommend Professor Haverly.
Gives quizzes and exams frequently, gives you one minute per question and makes the score double the amount of questions. there's a lot of people who are already struggling having to do all their work online, so making quizzes timed as narrow as this only makes us feel worse. I studied for almost every quiz or exam and still received a bad grade.
His tests are ridiculous, you get very little time to complete them and you can't review your answers before you submit it. No lectures or textbook, all you have are powerpoints with next to no useful info so you'll probably do terribly on exams. He claims to want to help students but is not very considerate when you have problems.
To anyone looking to take Haverly, just don't! He claims that he wants to help, but does not provide the help you ask for in the way that you need it. Says to study solely off note packets, but then there are unknown topics on quizzes/tests. Doesn't tell you correct quiz answers, even though you get two attempts, but it's no help, w/o knowing prevs
Legit the worst professor I've had. All his tests were hypotheticals and half of the questions didn't even pertain to biology. He gave notes and powerpoints but when it came to the quizzes / tests the notes didn't help at all. Honestly felt like he didn't even know what class he was teaching half the time.
I had online class for Haverly. I'd say he did a good job online, he provided the website that you had to read then answer some questions for a grade which weren't too bad and the quizzes/exams were accurate of what we've learned. I was nervous for his class since I had failed before since what we've learned wasn't on exams but he did okay..
None of the note packs helped on any quizzes or exams. The exam questions were unclear and misleading and he frequently made mistakes on the questions.
Do NOT take this class. Made the mistake of taking this course over the summer and ahhhhhh!!!! Any questions you ask he will do 1 of 2 things (or both). He will tell you he doesn't understand your questions and won't even attempt to answer and he will then proceed to direct you to Google & YouTube. Totally unreachable most of the time.
I have taken his class twice now (not on purpose classes were full). The first time I though was horrible but I thought maybe it was a fluke or a bad experience for me NOPE. He gives out so much busy work and acts as if his class is the only one you have. Study guides are note packets that relate nothing to the test.
Joseph Haverly is the worst professor i've ever had. He claims to care but really doesn't. Gives an endless amount of busy work. Powerpoint information does not match the quiz questions. Hard grader & does not put effort into helping you. Sarcastic attitude, shady guy. I'm taking bio 106 & 107 with lab with him and i don't know if i will pass eithe
Teachers ok but tests are done poorly. His questions involve things that weren't learned or are worded unclearly. You can't study for the questions because he doesn't put anything like it in the notes. I feel bad for online students because even with being able to use notes those won't help you and you get even less necessary lecture information.
Maybe his in person class is good, but online was awful. You only have the powerpoint to study from since he has no lectures, and that information is not that helpful for the exam. His exams are hard, and you get only a minute per question. He comes across as very unhelpful in his emails so don't even bother asking to make up a late assignment.
Im taking both BIO106 & 107 online. I had many mental breakdowns this semester just because of these two classes. I almost withdrew cause I thought I wasnt going to pass. I stuck it out and I believe I will pass now but I had to step up and take the classes was more serious. Homework is LONG, tests are difficult and illiterate, labs are tedious.
Overall, the teacher is honestly a nice guy. Not everyone will like him, but he tries his best to care for all of his students. Yes, I do agree with others when they say that the tests are difficult, but there are other opportunities to boost your grade up. Extra credit is given and it pretty much boosts your grade by a whole letter if you do it.
I took Bio 106 with him and it was awful, this semester though was completely different. He constantly looked to improve his teachings and took everything to heart. By the end of the semester he is now one of my favorite teachers. Unique testing but manageable, easy but large labs, removes your worst largest grade and potentially more.
Class was very difficult on exams, but if you do everything else well you should pass with a good grade. Attendance is taken for a grade. You need to study to get an A. Great lectures and genuine person. You learn far more important things in this class than any other. You should consider taking this course.
I took this class my first semester as a freshman and it was a hard transition. You definitely have to keep up with the material in order to do well in the class. This class requires a lot of work but it can be manageable if you study and make note cards as you go. Don't wait last minute to study since it consists of a lot of material.
I took this class over the summer and loved professor Haverly. Lots of extra credit opportunities that bumped me from a B to an A.
Professor Haverly tries really hard to make this class go as smoothly as he can. It naturally has a ton of information we have to know for this class. He goes out of his way to make it clear exactly what is needed to be studied for each exam and is extremely organized with how he wants his classes to go each day. I would definitely recommend him!!
Would recommend him 100%. As long as you attend class and pay attention to the lectures. You will pass.
Professor Haverly is the best professor I've taken at RVC. Not everyone will agree with him or like him, but what they will like is he gives you every opportunity to pass his class. Do the homework, show up to class, study, and you will pass. He curves and drops lowest scores at the end and (I think) he's hilarious. He makes anatomy enjoyable.
Do the work show up and you should be fine. He is a great teacher and cares a lot about his students.
Available to go over home works and exams. Great lectures!
You can tell professor Haverly really cares about his students success. If you show up to lecture and do the homework, you will pass. One of the best professors I've had at RVC!
He has little compassion. If you have things going on in your personal life and come to him to ask for help/more time he has no compassion. Things come up. Life isn't peachy. Also he words questions/syllabus weird. If he says an assignment is due by a day make sure you double check as you can't do it early. He wants it done the same day it's due.
Haverly is the best professor I have had yet at RVC. He makes notes, quizzes, and practice exams for you. For the notes you have to fill them out before class or it will be hard for you to pay attention to his lectures. Haverly does call on students in the classroom so be ready for that. LOVE LOVE LOVE HIM. Wish he could teach every class
Haverly is my favorite professor so far at RVC, it's a lot of work but he gives so many opportunities to gain the practice (and the points) to be prepared for the exams and practicals. He's very laid back but truly does everything he can to help students succeed in his class. Hands down an amazing professor and I would recommend him to everyone.
Professor Haverly was one of the best professors I had at RVC. He will help you get through the course. You will have homework about every other day, but the assignments do help you get through his class. He truly does care about his students and treats them with respect. Hands down will recommend him to anyone taking anatomy and physiology.
I went to his office hours to ask if there was anything I could do to get my grade from a B to an A. He told me "Do you know how inappropriate & wrong it looks" for me, a MINOR, to come in & ask for a grade change. Insinuating that I was offering MYSELF up for a better grade. I just wanted my attendance points back. I was 17, still in HS. Creepy.
Had a terrible experience in my winterm class. Haverly had nearly impossible expectations for this course. A very excessive (and unnecessary) amount of work. His method of take a quiz/ homework until a 100% was brutal (but needed to pass this class). I HAD a 4.0 for my time at RVC but this course ruined my GPA. I would never recommend this course
Haverly is the absolute best, very easy going, caring, funny, & makes lecture enjoyable. A&P is NOT easy, but he gives you various ways of studying & practicing the material vs the traditional route. I'm not strong in science but I dedicated my time to continually using his resources. 12/10 would take any other course he taught!
Professor Haverly is great! Professor Haverly offers plenty of opportunities to learn the material at home with all the extra study guides, the online work that helps you study, etc. I really enjoyed taking this class.
Best professor I have ever had at RVC. He gives numerous opportunities for you to succeed in the course and shows that he does want you to succeed! Participation matters, as he will call on you every class, but he makes lecture fun. His lectures are complicated, but he does a great job going in depth on what will be on exams. 100% recommend!
Took Professor Haverlys Bio 185 evening classes the spring of 2024. Be prepared for lots homework due weekly. However, he gives you multiple attempts to get a passing grade. He will sit down and help you study for lab and help you understand each topic. No question is stupid in his class. You can truly see he loves to teach. Best professor at RVC
SHOW UP TO CLASS!!!!! and you will do just fine, he is a nice teacher and will make you laugh at his dad jokes.
He is a fair but firm professor when it comes to getting work done in-and-outside the classroom. I really enjoyed him as a professor because he was willing to help his students if they needed it and helped to guide them in the right direction during labs.
Professor Haverly truly cares about all of his students and it shows. He wants you to succeed and sets you up to do just that. If you ever need help, he will help you. The class itself is very difficult but that's to be expected, but if you follow along the way explains, show up to class, use your time wisely and STUDY, you will do just fine
Professor Haverly is a great professor. He really has a passion for teaching and makes sure that you can learn. No question is stupid to him, he dedicates his time to explain. He cares for attendance and he asks you questions to make sure that you are understanding. The tools he uses for student learning support are on point so practice is a must.
Professor Haverly makes this challenging course enjoyable. His lectures are engaging, and he provides tons of resources to help you succeed, including tools like Unstuckstudy for effective study prep. Definitely worth the effort.
I took his online environmental bio class, which was really difficult and he had 4 assignments a week. He didn't even give a few days of no homework before tests so you barely had anytime to study. The final was a day after the last test so that was fun.
Prof Haverly really sets his classes up well. Anatomy Phys is a tough class with lots of topics, but he has SO many resources to help students. He writes out packets for you to fill out and has so many helpful videos linked and practice quizzes and tests before the real ones. He doesn't lecture much but is always there to help and explain topics.
overall he's nice... however you can tell when he gets frustrated if he calls on you and you don't know the answer. He is unfortunately not very encouraging, and will say "if you do bad and you studied, you may not be cut out for the medical field" it may be tough love, but it is extremely discouraging. he also does not lecture at all.
Haverly was the best professor I've had so far. His course does have a heavy work load, but that's because it's anatomy. He does everything in his power to make the class as easy as possible and very straight forward, you just have to be willing to put in the time. Haverly is easy to work with and will help you as long as you help yourself!
Professor Haverly was an amazing professor. He was the reason I enjoyed anatomy as much as I did. He kept the class fun and engaged many conversations with the class. He was honest and willing to help anyone out. He was always approachable and funny. I really recommend his class to anyone. Keep up with studying and DON'T procrastinate.
An amazing professor, makes everything clear of what you need to know and keeps class engaging. I would take his class again. Just make sure you do your notes and study and you will do well in his class.
