Dr. Heim was my advisor during my time atCal, and was always willing to help me with every little problem that I encountered. He continues (even after graduation) to assist me in my search for the perfect grad school, and just to talk. He was my absolute favorite!

I have Dr Heim for not only Intro to Political Science but Intern'l Relations ~ he, in my opinion, is the smartest man alive. He is so helpful and is always willing to help you out. I will have him for Politics of Asia next semester and I am SUPER EXCITED! :)

Never any homework...occasional readings...ALL notetaking and occasional videos (information on videos don't even matter)...VERY FUNNY!!!...easy going guy...miss a test? he'll let u make it up (no problem)...only 3 tests a semester

He is one of the best teachers ever! He writes all his notes on the bored and his test come write from his notes. You do have to study your notes but its nothing to hard.

He's such a nice guy, and you'll actually learn something from him. He writes outlines on the board, you copy them and write a few sidenotes, and you're good for the tests. If you don't think poly sci will be interesting, he'll make it that way with all his goofy stories. He's like an expert in the field, yet he makes the class enjoyable!

Dr. Heim is one of the greatest professors on campus!...No attendance policy, however he gives random open-note quizzes for bonus points. One of the most intelligent professors i've ever had, which makes the class more interesting. Knows anything and everything about our world past and present. Tests are somewhat difficult, however he gives bonus.

I hate anything politics and he manages to hold my interest through every class! he really relates it to his students and makes you laugh. very intelligent. dont buy the textbook-you will NEVER use it. but buy the book that he wants you to read cause you will need it for the final!

Heim is awesome. He is excited about his teachings and lessons, his class is easy and he makes Political Science as fun as possible. he gives you all of the notes at the beginning of class, there is no reading for some time during the course and gives random extra credit.

Heim is the man. Best prof I've ever had. He keeps the material simple, and brings up random just for fun facts all the time. He is the smartest man I have ever met. Sometimes I wonder if he just does this whole teaching thing for fun, because his classes are always entertaining.

Very good teacher the only thing you have to do is show up copy notes off the board for five min then listen its very easy and attendance is not mandatory.

I had this professor for international relations and for intro to political science. He is rather smart, but sometimes he acts like he is soooo much better than everyone else, and that we don't know anything. Therefore he can be somewhat annoying, but his classes are extremely easy, and you do learn a lot. Take notes and listen. Easy.

I am a political science major and he was the first teacher in college I got and was honestly scared at first, but after the first ten minutes I found out that he is by far the best teacher so far. Great lectures and notes and he also reviews at the end of each class to help with exam points.

I have taken almost every class he teaches at Cal and he is my absolute favorite Professor! He gives you all the notes on the board at the beginning of class and lectures for 40 minutes. Professor Heim is a great Professor and a real gem as a human being. He made history come alive with great stories about all the characters that built into the global economic system we have today. I wish I could take him again but I graduated last semester.

Taking a class with Dr. Heim will make you want to enroll in all of his classes. Every class follows the same format: 10min of note taking, followed by a 40min lecture on the notes. If you attend class and pay attention you're guaranteed to do well. Tests are EASY and stem from the notes directly. He's the funniest prof ever. Joe Heim is a legend.

Dr. Heim does lectures in a unique way: he writes the notes on the board before lecturing, rather than doing both at the same time. I found this helpful as I could focus on what he was saying without worrying about writing notes as I already did so. He is great at teaching the material and tries to make it fun. The tests come right from the notes.

I must say, if you are a polisci major, or just need a quick few credits and enjoy history/political thought, this is your man. Based on the stories he's told, he's not only the most interesting professor I will ever have, but is also insightful and very fun at points in his lectures which really breaks up any monotony in the content. Excellent!

There's not much more I could say about the man that hasn't been said already. Incredibly smart and wickedly funny, he's my favorite professor and it really isn't even close. He doesn't use D2L, he doesn't give homework. Just go to class, pay attention, and you're golden. I recommend him highly.

I enjoyed his lectures and thought he was interesting most of the time. Sometimes he would go on tangents but they were usually funny. He sent out copies of the notes so you could read along with him. Overall, I really good teacher and very knowledgeable.

I had Dr. Heim my first semester for Intro To Politics. The class was 10/10, he was great at lecturing and sent the notes via email. In addition to this, he helped me understand the proper way to take note (In outline format). He is absolutely hilarious, I would even write "Heim Quotes" in the margins of my notes and share them with my friend.

Dr. Joe Heim is my advisor. I have had multiple classes with him. He can get off-track often during lectures because he wants to share as much as he can with his students. He always has some joke or fun fact to share. He always writes his notes on the board and underlines key points for the test - you must choose what to write from his lecture.

Although lectures are boring, they are extremely helpful. Tend to watch a lot of videos and exams are super easy. He tells you most of the multiple-choice questions. Although he does have a textbook, I haven't read a single thing the whole year and have gotten A's on all exams simply from his notes he sends and lectures.

Great guy! Although his lectures can be boring, I loved his class. He emails you the notes every night before a lecture, and he doesn't take attendance. If you miss, you'll be missing out on his great humor. The overall grade is only 3-4 tests, so you will need to make sure you go through the notes before test day.
